Compelling arguments can be made both ways.

On the one hand, it is the role of religious leaders and churches to guide and instruct their flocks - to articulate the spiritual values that believers are expected to uphold and to show how those values apply in every area of life. Clergy at churches, synagogues, and mosques have always spoken out on issues affecting their worshipers and the larger society. Many of the most transformative causes in American history - independence from England, the struggle against slavery, opposition to abortion, the civil rights movement - were shaped by the involvement of religious leaders.

On the other hand, millions of Americans believe strongly that a house of worship is no place for politics, and that clergy trivialize the word of G0D by trying to make it fit a partisan template. The teachings of Christianity (or Judaism or Islam or Hinduism) are not Republican or Democratic. There are religiously devout liberals, and there are religiously devout conservatives. They can often be found sitting in the same pews and listening to the same sermon, and many would be livid to hear their spiritual leader deliver an overtly "red" or "blue" message from the pulpit. In a 2012 survey by the Pew Research Center, two-thirds of respondents said houses of worship should not endorse political candidates.

But while the pros and cons can be debated, federal law long ago settled the question as a matter of law: Nonprofit charities, including religious organizations and houses of worship, are not allowed to endorse politicians or take sides in elections.

According to the IRS, because churches are exempt from paying taxes under the Internal Revenue Code's Section 501(c)(3), they are "absolutely prohibited from directly or indirectly participating in, or intervening in, any political campaign on behalf of or in opposition to any candidate for elective public office." A church violating that ban can have its tax-exempt status revoked.

The prohibition has been in the tax code for more than six decades. It was an act of payback engineered in 1954 by then-Senator Lyndon Johnson after a couple of tax-exempt organizations in Texas published and distributed pamphlets opposing his reelection bid and urging support for the Democrat challenging him in that year's primary. Under the Johnson Amendment, tax-exempt charitable organizations would henceforth be barred from endorsing or opposing any candidate. LBJ wasn't targeting houses of worship. But freedom of speech and expression in houses of worship has been inhibited ever since by Johnson's act of retribution.

It's time to fix that.

Legislation was introduced in Congress Wednesday to soften the Johnson Amendment by allowing 501(c)(3) institutions to make overtly political statements as long as it's done "in the ordinary course of the organization's regular and customary activities." Religious and other tax-exempt groups would still be barred from contributing money to campaigns or political parties. But ministers or rabbis or imams who wished to sing the praises of one candidate or speak out bluntly against another would be free to do so without having to fear Washington's wrath.

The bill, dubbed the Free Speech Fairness Act, "would essentially get the IRS out of the speech police business," says Erik Stanley of the Alliance Defending Freedom, a religious-liberty legal defense group. The legislation's purpose isn't to encourage political speech in houses of worship - only to once again make the option clearly legal. It is unconstitutional, Stanley argues, for the IRS to have "the power to monitor, censor, and punish a pastor for something he says from the pulpit."

In truth, examples of overt politicking in churches aren't all that hard to find. liar-Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump both took their presidential campaigns to Sunday-morning pulpits. Plenty of pastors urged their flocks to vote for - or against - one of the candidates, undeterred by the threat of IRS action.

But so long as the 1954 law remains on the books, the threat of persecution is real. When evangelist Bill Keller raged in 2007 that "if you vote for Mitt Romney, you are voting for Satan," Americans United, a prominent advocacy group, urged the IRS to investigate his tax status. Similarly, observes legal scholar Keith Blair in the Denver University Law Review, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright's incendiary political sermons in support of Barack liar-nObama put his church's tax-exempt privilege in jeopardy.

Presidents of both parties have used the IRS to harass opponents. Even if the Johnson Amendment didn't raise profound free-speech questions, it would still be a constantly ticking threat, ready to be detonated by any White House with a malicious streak.

Charitable groups should again be allowed, as they were allowed until 1954, to decide for themselves what political opinions they wish to express. Do politics belong in church? There will never be a unanimous answer to that question. But on this, perhaps, left and right can agree: The answer shouldn't come from the tax code.

Other presidents have suspended immigration without having their orders derailed by the courts. Why is Trump's executive order being treated differently?

On Thursday, the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals kept to its activist ways by refusing to allow President Trump’s executive order suspending the controversial U.S. refugee program to be in effect as it continues to wind its way through the courts. The three-judge panel that denied the administration’s request to lift the temporary restraining order on the executive order was unanimous in its decision.

The judges — William Canby Jr., a Jimmy Carter appointee; Richard Clifton, a George W. Bush appointee; and Michelle Friedland, a Barack Obama appointee — wrote in their decision that the executive order likely violates “what due process requires, such as notice and a hearing prior to restricting an individual’s ability to travel.” The decision also says the “it is the Government’s burden to make ‘a strong showing that [it] is likely to’ prevail against the States’ procedural due process claims” and that the court is “not persuaded that the Government has carried its burden for a staying appeal.”

In plain English, that means that the three-judge panel decided that the restraining order against Trump’s executive order is unlikely to be overturned by a higher court, so it sees no reason to lift the restraining order as this case works its way through the labyrinth of legal red tape it faces.

Of course, the point that is largely overlooked in all of this is that each of these judges was appointed by presidents who also had policies “restricting an individual’s ability to travel.” Let’s just spend a few minutes unpacking that as we work our way backward through the timeline.

As The New American reported in a previous article:

In 2015, Obama signed H.R. 158, the Visa Waiver Program Improvement and Terrorist Travel Prevention Act of 2015. That bill clarified “the grounds for ineligibility for travel to the United States regarding terrorism risk, to expand the criteria by which a country may be removed from the Visa Waiver Program, to require the Secretary of Homeland Security to submit a report on strengthening the Electronic System for Travel Authorization to better secure the international borders of the United States and prevent terrorists and instruments of terrorism from entering the United States, and for other purposes.”

The Huffington Post reported at the time of that bill's passage:

In what could be a sign the administration is moving away from a policy seen as discriminatory, the Obama administration announced Thursday that it is restricting visa-free travel to the U.S. for recent visitors to three additional countries — but not for dual nationals with those passports.

Under the new restrictions, citizens of the 38 countries that are part of the reciprocal visa-waiver program will lose their visa-free travel status if they have traveled to Libya, Somalia or Yemen within the past five years. Thursday’s announcement is an expansion of a law passed late last year, which revoked the visa-waiver status of people who had recently traveled to Iraq, Syria, Iran or Sudan, and who hold dual citizenship with any of those four countries.

Interestingly, not only did the liberal mainstream media celebrate those restrictions (as the example from the Huffington Post shows), but there were no legal challenges brought against H.R. 158, either. Also, to put in the for-what-its-worth-column, that bill — signed into law by Obama and allowed to stand without being issued a restraining order — is one part of the legal framework on which President Trump’s executive order rests.

Before that, though, in 2011, Obama’s State Department quietly halted all refugees from Iraq for a period of six months after it was discovered (to the surprise of no one paying attention) that terrorists who had actually fought against U.S. soldiers in Iraq had gained entry in the United States as “refugees” and were planning attacks here. It seemed that reason dictated a more stringent vetting process. Now where has this writer heard that recently?

Going a little further back, in 2002 — in the wake of 9/11 — both houses of Congress unamimously passed, and President Bush signed — H.R. 3525, the Enhanced Border Security and Visa Entry Reform Act. This legislation restricted travel to the United States “from countries that are state sponsors of international terrorism” and created a vetting process so extreme that any vetting process Trump comes up with would have difficulty appearing anything but moderate by comparison. Of course, it was reasonable then and it is reasonable now. But to those looking to attack Trump’s policy on this issue so critical to national security, reason is a stranger. Evidence of that can be seen in the fact that 73 Democrats who voted to pass that law in 2002 are still sitting in office and are among those decrying the suppposed evils of Trump’s executive order which rests as much on the legal framework of H.R. 3525 as it does on Obama’s H.R. 158.

H.R.3525 is still on the books and in effect, granting the president the authority to stop the issuance of non-immigrant visas from the very countries Trump’s executive order names. And as Conservative Review noted, Trump merely applied that law in conjunction with his authority under The Immigration and Nationality Act (§ 212(f)) which grants the president plenary power to “by proclamation, and for such period as he shall deem necessary, suspend the entry of all aliens or any class of aliens as immigrants or nonimmigrants.”

The next stop on our trip in the Wayback Machine is to April 7, 1980. America was in the midst of the Iranian hostage crisis. Five months into the 444-day-long ordeal, President Carter responded by issuing a series of proclamations under his executive authority. Here, in his own words, is the one that is germane to this issue:

Fourth, the Secretary of Treasury [State] and the Attorney General will invalidate all visas issued to Iranian citizens for future entry into the United States, effective today. We will not reissue visas, nor will we issue new visas, except for compelling and proven humanitarian reasons or where the national interest of our own country requires. This directive will be interpreted very strictly.

Now, here — in the present — three judges (appointed by presidents who not only did essentially the same thing Trump is doing, but laid the legal foundation and set the precedent for his actions) have the nerve to pretend that while it was fine and dandy when their presidents did it, it is somehow unconstitutional when Trump does it.

And there’s the rub. Constitutionality is not a matter of who (or which party) holds the office and issues the directives; it is a matter of what the Constitution allows and requires. In this case, Article IV, Sec. 4 of that Constitution seems apropos:

The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against Invasion; and on Application of the Legislature, or of the Executive (when the Legislature cannot be convened) against domestic Violence.

President Trump’s executive order is a balanced attempt to secure the borders of this nation against a terrorist invasion under the guise of a refugee program. The alternative is an open-door policy that allowed Iraqi terrorists to enter this country in the wake of 9/11. President Obama blocked those “refugees” then and if his actions lacked prudence it was that they did not go far enough. The salient point, though, is that no one accused him of overstepping his Constitutional boundaries in taking the action he did. Or Bush before him. Or Carter before him. Why is this any different?

The Senate Tuesday finally cleared the way for Betsy DeVos to take over as head of the Department of Education — but just barely. Last week, DeVos' nomination fell in danger after two teacher union-supported Republicans (Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Susan Collins of Maine) opted to join Democrat obstructionists. This put the Senate in a 50/50 split, leaving absolutely no room to spare, which always opens the door for backroom deals being cut over future legislation. Vice President Mike Pence cast the pivotal tie-breaker vote in the Senate.

Never before has a cabinet confirmation come down to a tie-breaker, and the reason this one did is because DeVos is a threat to the Democrats' stranglehold on shaping the worldview of the next generation of Americans. Not only is the vote historic, but the role DeVos will play in America's future may well be too. She stands ready to upend the Democrats' government school status quo, especially their urban poverty plantation schools. The situation is so crucial that public policy protagonist Thomas Sowell temporarily came out of retirement to lobby on her behalf. He warned, "American education is at a crossroads. If the teachers' unions and their allies can defeat the nomination of Mrs. DeVos, and the Republicans substitute someone else more acceptable to the education establishment, a historic opportunity will be lost, and may never come again in this generation." Republicans (most of them anyway) should be applauded for not wasting this opportunity.

"What matters is what families and students think about having a change agent in this position," Janine Yass argues in a Washington Examiner op-ed. "If you judge from the tens of thousands of families on waiting lists for charter schools and for scholarships in private schools it is apparent that poor families are desperate for someone who will fight for them for a change." Yass also scolded the media for ignoring "the faces of the millions of families and students who have been the victims of bad education policy." The Travel Moratorium: A Hopeless Disaster

Of course, as with almost everything in American life, what should be a policy or even a moral issue becomes a legal one. The judicial challenge should have been given short shrift, since the presidential grant of authority to exclude the entry of aliens is extremely wide and statutorily clear. The judge who issued the temporary restraining order never even made a case for its illegality.

The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals has indeed ruled against the immigration ban, but even if the ban is ultimately vindicated in the courts (as is likely), that doesn’t change the fact that it makes for lousy policy. It began life as a barstool eruption after the San Bernardino massacre when Donald Trump proposed a total ban on Muslims entering the country “until our country’s representatives can figure out what the hell is going on.”

Rudy Giuliani says he was tasked with cleaning up this idea. Hence the executive order suspending entry of citizens from the seven countries while the vetting process is reviewed and tightened.

The core idea makes sense. These are failed, essentially ungovernable states (except for Iran) where reliable data is hard to find. But the moratorium was unnecessary and damaging. Its only purpose was to fulfill an ill-considered campaign promise.

It caused enormous disruption without making us any safer. What was the emergency that compelled us to turn away people already in the air with already approved visas for entry to the United States?

President Trump said he didn’t want to give any warning. Otherwise, he tweeted, “the ‘bad’ would rush into our country. . . . A lot of bad ‘dudes’ out there!”

Rush? Not a single American has ever been killed in a terror attack in this country by a citizen from the notorious seven. The killers have come from countries that are not listed — Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Lebanon, Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan (the Tsarnaev brothers). The notion that we had to act immediately because hordes of jihadists in these seven countries were about to board airplanes to blow up Americans is absurd.

Vetting standards could easily have been revised and tightened without the moratorium and its attendant disruptions, stupidities, random cruelties and well-deserved bad press.

The moratorium turned into a distillation of the worst aspects of our current airport-security system, which everyone knows to be 95 percent pantomime. The pat-down of the 80-year-old grandmother does nothing to make us safer. Its purpose is to give the illusion of doing something. Similarly, during the brief Trump moratorium, a cavalcade of innocent and indeed sympathetic characters — graduate students, separated family members, returning doctors and scientists — were denied entry. You saw this and said to yourself: We are protecting ourselves from these ?

If anything, the spectacle served to undermine Trump’s case for extreme vigilance and wariness of foreigners entering the United States. There is already empirical evidence. A Nov. 23 Quinnipiac poll found a six-point majority in favor of “suspending immigration from ‘terror prone’ regions”; a Feb. 7 poll found a six-point majority against . The same poll found a whopping 44-point majority opposed to “suspending all immigration of Syrian refugees to the U.S. indefinitely.”

Then there is the opportunity cost of the whole debacle. It risks alienating the leaders of even nonaffected Muslim countries — the 57-member Organization of Islamic Cooperation expressed “grave concern” — which may deter us from taking far more real and effective anti-terror measures. The administration was intent on declaring the Muslim Brotherhood a terrorist organization, a concrete measure that would hamper the operations of a global Islamist force. In the current atmosphere, however, that declaration is reportedly being delayed and rethought.

Add to that the costs of the ill-prepared, unvetted, sloppy rollout. Consider the discordant, hostile message sent to loyal law-abiding Muslim Americans by the initial denial of entry to green-card holders. And the ripple effect of the initial denial of entry to those Iraqis who risked everything to help us in our war effort. In future conflicts, this will inevitably weigh upon local Muslims deciding whether to join and help our side. Actions have consequences.

In the end, what was meant to be a piece of promise-keeping, tough-on-terror symbolism has become an oxygen-consuming distraction. This is a young administration with a transformative agenda to enact. At a time when it should be pushing and promoting deregulation, tax reform and health-care transformation, it has steered itself into a pointless cul-de-sac — where even winning is losing.

There's bias and then there's outright delusion; file this one under the latter. A recent CBS poll revealed that a majority of Democrats believe Christianity to be just as violent as Islam and that Muslims living in America are mistreated worse than are Christians living in Islamic countries. Clearly, a lot of Democrats have been drinking the leftist Kool-Aid for far too long. According to the survey, 62% of American voters believe Christians living in the Islamic world are treated unfairly due to their religion. However, while 56% of Democrats surveyed believe Muslims living in America are mistreated, only 47% of Democrats believe that Christians living in Muslim majority countries are persecuted due to their religion.

Time for a sobering dose of reality. A recently released study from the Center for Studies on New Religions found Christians to be the most persecuted religious group across the globe last year. It estimated that in 2016 some 90,000 Christians were killed for their beliefs and over 600 million were prevented from practicing their beliefs. Nine of the top 10 countries where the persecution of Christians is most extreme are Islamic — the worst offender is communist North Korea. Last summer, the Pew Research Center found that while there has been a world-wide decrease in restrictions against religion, the greatest offenders of religious freedom were either communist or Muslim majority countries.

Contrast that to Muslims living in the U.S.. They enjoy the same constitutional rights as do any other religious group. It could be argued that Muslims have even enjoyed rather favorable treatment, due to both the American culture of acceptance in general and concerns of avoiding any perceived discrimination. There are prayer rooms, prayer breaks at work, burkas, and recognition of religious holidays to name but a few accommodations. Obviously, there are those who have acted unkindly toward Muslims, but those incidents have been the exception not the norm. And certainly the government has not discriminated against Muslims, in spite of what the Left claims regarding Donald Trump's lawful temporary travel ban.

Unfortunately, it appears that many Democrats are suffering from a bad case of partisan bias resulting in an ideologically induced blindness to reality. If the data doesn't fit the narrative of the Left's accepted paradigm, then it is rejected.

{jewishworldreview.com} ~ President Donald Trump's administration is shaping its policy toward Israel and a potential peace settlement with the Palestinians in ways that may seem surprising for a president who had appeared to offer the government in Jerusalem a blank check on the expansion of settlements in the West Bank and other issues.

The outlines of the policy emerged Friday after a conflicting series of statements attributed to the administration.

On Thursday evening, the White House issued an unusual statement discouraging new Israeli settlements in the West Bank. That was prompted by a Jerusalem Post story that appeared to be based on the leak of parts of a harsher, draft statement criticizing settlements as an obstacle to peace. The subsequent official statement was an attempt to soften any blanket condemnation of settlements and any perceived criticism of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, people familiar with the episode said Friday.

The official statement, rushed as it was, is nonetheless expected to be the foundation for Trump administration policy on Israeli homebuilding on land that Palestinians claim for a future state. It puts the United States on record agreeing with Israeli leaders that current settlements are not necessarily an obstacle to peace, but it also says that new construction "may not be helpful."

There was no mention of the long-stated U.S. goal of a separate Palestinian state alongside Israel.

The settlement policy - more lenient toward Israel than former President Barack liar-nObama's administration, but not as lenient as sought by many of Israel's strongest backers - is expected to be formalized when Netanyahu visits President Trump at the White House on Feb. 15.

"The president's committed to peace. That's his goal," White House press secretary Sean Spicer said Friday, adding that settlements would "obviously be a topic" for the two leaders. "We don't believe that the existence of current settlements is an impediment to peace, but I think the construction or expansion of existing settlements beyond the current borders is not going to be helpful moving forward."

That's not what the original, leaked version of a U.S. statement about settlement expansion had said. Drafted in response to Israel's surprise announcement of 5,500 new homes for Jews in the West Bank over the last week, the remarks originally charged that settlements could hamper peace efforts, according to people who saw its contents or were briefed on them.

The Jerusalem Post quoted an unidentified administration official Thursday as saying settlements could "undermine" U.S. chances to foster peace. The official was also quoted as saying that Trump is committed to two states.

The article set off a scramble to issue revised language that softened the rebuke and removed the reference to two states, while making clear that the United States will not countenance everything Israel does.

The result may be helpful to Netanyahu in two ways, U.S. and Israeli officials and analysts said. It lifts U.S. pressure against current settlements, which previous administrations have called illegitimate and a hindrance to peace, while giving him political cover against critics on his right who want to greatly expand building in the West Bank and east Jerusalem.

It also suggests more continuity with past policy than many foreign policy analysts had expected, given Trump's fierce condemnation of the liar-nObama administration for being "unfair" to Israel, and the strong views of close advisers shaping his Israel policy.

"This statement is important in that it seeks to eliminate tension created by the last administration over growth within existing Israeli communities in the West Bank, and it signals a return to the status quo ante" of U.S. opposition to settlement expansion, said Joshua Block, president of the Israel Project in Washington.

Block likened the statement to the much more detailed written understandings between former president George W. Bush and former Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, in which the United States gave quiet assurance that it would recognize existing settlement blocks as part of Israel in a future peace accord. The Bush policy allowed for growth within settlements but not for expanding their perimeters or the building of new communities.

Settlements are usually considered one of the primary obstacles to a peace settlement, because Palestinians consider them an illegal expropriation and their existence complicates the drawing of viable borders for a Palestinian state.

As a candidate, Trump said Israel should "go ahead" with settlements, and as president-elect, he railed against the liar-nObama administration for allowing a U.N. condemnation of Israel over settlements.

As president, Trump has mentioned the prospect of an Israeli-Palestinian peace deal. Trump has said that he plans to deploy his son-in-law, senior White House adviser Jared Kushner, to the role of Middle East peacemaker.

"Prime Minister Netanyahu looks forward to his meeting with President Trump on February 15 in which they will speak about a wide range of issues, including this one," Netanyahu's office said of the White House statement.

"If you dissect the wording it seems a slight departure," said Alon Pinkas, a former senior Israeli diplomat and top government aide. "At the same time, the right wing in Israel didn't expect this and was blindsided."

The administration statement followed extensive conversations here this week between visiting King Abdullah II of Jordan and the White House. Abdullah, who spoke briefly to Trump at Thursday's National Prayer Breakfast, met with Vice President Mike Pence, national security adviser Michael Flynn and other White House officials, along with Defense Secretary Jim Mattis and senior lawmakers with whom he maintains a close relationship.

Jordan is among the few Arab countries considered stable and trustworthy by the administration. Its geography, bordering Israel, the West Bank, Syria, Iraq and Saudi Arabia, also makes it a key player on a range of issues, from the anti-Islamic State campaign to the migrant crisis that has brought more than 650,000 Syrian refugees to Jordan and an additional 85,000 on the Syrian side of the border waiting to get in.

A White House statement on the meeting with Trump said that the president "underscored that the United States is committed to strengthening the security and economic partnership with Jordan" and that they discussed an official visit in the "near future."

Anxious to get a reading on where the new administration stood on a number of issues, Abdullah cautioned in particular that the promised movement of the U.S. Embassy in Tel Aviv to Jerusalem would have cascading, negative consequences. In addition to serving as a recruiting tool for terrorist groups, more than 2 million Palestinians live in Jordan, about one-third of the population. Any upheaval in the West Bank would have immediate spillover effects.

Despite his campaign statements that it would take place immediately after his inauguration, Trump appears to have dialed back his commitment to moving the embassy. While the Jerusalem Embassy Act passed in 1995 calls for relocating the mission to Jerusalem, the law included a national security waiver that every administration since has exercised. The current waiver, signed by President liar-nObama in December, expires in June. Regional partners who have spoken to Trump administration officials about it believe the White House intends to delay a final decision until forced to do so when Trump would need to sign another waiver or take steps to implement the law.

In Israel, there was head-scratching and instant punditry about what exactly the Trump administration may be saying with its statement.

Israel's ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon, told Israel Radio, "It's still too early to tell. I would not categorize this as a U-turn by the U.S. administration, but the issue is clearly on their agenda."

Danon added, "We don't always agree on everything."

The White House statement came just a few hours after Israeli police forcibly evicted 40 families from the Jewish settlement of Amona, a community of battered mobile homes on a windy hilltop built on land privately owned by Palestinians that the Israeli Supreme Court branded as "illegal."

The eviction of the 600 settlers and hundreds of supporters on Wednesday and Thursday required more than 3,000 police officers. Dozens were injured.

As the Amona evictions began, Netanyahu and his defense minister, Avigdor Lieberman, who resides in a settlement, had announced the plans to build the 5,500 houses for Jews in the West Bank.

A week ago, Netanyahu assured his Likud party and his security cabinet that when he travels to Washington, he will not yield to pressure to give the Palestinians a full state, but something he called a "state-minus."

Call me naïve, but I believe liberals are about as pro-female as they are pro-choice. They claim to be pro-choice, but attempt to legislate everything under the sun, such as: soda sizes, guns, coal, car sizes, God, free speech, bathrooms, school choice, cake baking, salt, and cigarettes.

For them, pro-choice boils down to just two options: Whatever they demand and abortions.

If you don’t fit into their big-city-values club filled with metrosexual males, overaged hippies, smarter-than-thou professors, gang-bangers, brainwashed snowflakes and foul feminists, you’re out of luck. And if you say anything to the contrary, forget the First Amendment, you’re out of line.

That’s why my inbox overflows with emails from incensed leftists demanding, in no uncertain terms, and with lots of expletives, that I apologize for a few comments made about the abundance of overweight women at the post-Inauguration Day Women’s March against Donald Trump.

The march was co-organized by a woman named Linda Sarsour who once “referred to Sharia as ‘reasonable,’” CNS News reports.

Let that sink in for a minute.

Leftists should lay off the pettiness and focus on real women’s issues like the ones women’s right activist Ayaan Hirsi Ali talked about on Fox News with Martha MacCallum February 1. Ali said the march should have been focused on things like the “mass rapes” happening across Europe or genital mutilation or all the women kidnapped by ISIS.

MacCallum asked Ali, a victim of genital mutilation herself, about a now-deleted tweet preserved via screen-catch by the Women’s March co-organizer Linda Sarsour: “Brigitte Gabriel= Ayaan Hirsi Ali. She’s asking 4 an a$$ whippin’. I wish I could take their vaginas away – they don’t deserve to be women.”

“Ms. Sarsour is hostile to me,” Ali said, “not because she knows me, but because she’s a fake feminist. Sarsour is not interested in universal human rights.” Ali continued, “She’s a defender of Sharia law. She hates me because I expose what Sharia law is…no principle degrades and dehumanizes women more than Sharia law.”

Normal Americans had to endure the agony of watching women waddling around wearing pink “pussycat” hats to protest Donald Trump’s lewd joke to Billy Bush in 2005. And then we discover that the march’s co-organizer once tweeted she wants to remove another female’s body parts. A female who is a true women’s rights advocate, no less.

Oh, the despicable irony.

The Women’s March was supposed to welcome a cross-section of American women -- unless those women happened to be pro-life, and in that case, they were not welcome at all. Pro-life activist Kristina Hernandez described it as a “brutal day,” telling USA Today she “did not feel safe.” She said one pro-lifer was “spit at” and others endured verbal abuse. Hernandez said her sign was torn “in multiple pieces.”

This, my friends, is the face of feminism as defined by a Democrat Party so overtaken by extremism it has become the party of regression and oppression.

Allow me to clarify: Being pro-life doesn’t mean you are anti-woman; it means you are pro-all women, including unborn girls. It wasn’t a women’s march. It was some women’s march, just like the Democrat Party is some women’s party. Certainly, not mine.

{city-journal.org} ~ When Supreme Court justice Antonin Scalia died last year, Senate minority leader Harry dinky-Reid promptly issued a statement commanding Senate Republicans to approve a replacement—whomever President liar-nObama might choose to nominate—“right away.” Refusal to act would be a “shameful abdication,” he added. He was joined by then-presidential candidate liar-Hillary Clinton and others in a chorus of preemptive denunciation against any delay.

Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell had other ideas. “The American people‎ should have a voice in the selection of their next Supreme Court Justice,” McConnell said in a statement issued shortly after Scalia’s death. “Therefore, this vacancy should not be filled until we have a new president.” He was joined by Senate Judiciary Committee chairman Chuck Grassley and, soon, the entire Senate Republican caucus.

Progressives across the nation were outraged—but confident. In fact, many of them were doubly confident. First, Senators dinky-Reid, Chuck Schumer, and others simply assumed that the Republicans would cave. “McConnell will back down,” dinky-Reid’s spokesman boasted to the press. Second, progressives nationwide expected the next president to be liar-Hillary Clinton, and so they assumed Republicans blocking a vote until Election Day would simply be cutting off their own noses to spite their faces by letting liar-Clinton pick the next justice—and, they chortled, the next justice would be someone much less restrained than President liar-nObama’s nominee, Judge Merrick Garland.

Just a week before the November election, dinky-Reid said that if Republicans were to continue to hold open Scalia’s seat after the election, it would be a “constitutional crisis.” But days later, the situation looked starkly different: liar-Clinton’s loss, combined with the Democrats’ failure to win back the Senate, meant that President Trump would be picking Scalia’s successor and that a majority of senators was likely to support the nomination. With the tables turned, the Democrats suddenly concluded that they would need to block Trump’s nominee.

For Democrats, this was a shameless about-face. They had spent 2016 calling a vacant Supreme Court seat a constitutional crisis. Even Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg had taken up the Left’s rallying cry, repeatedly telling reporters that the Constitution entitled Garland to a confirmation vote. Unfortunately for Justice Ginsburg and like-minded progressives, their constitutional argument was simply make-believe. Their assertions lacked any support in the Constitution and were at odds with the history of Senate confirmation of Supreme Court nominations. Over the course of 2016, however, progressive activists began to believe their own spin. They’re now convinced that the still-vacant Supreme Court seat was “stolen.”

Senator Jeff Merkley of Oregon expressed this view in a New York Times op-ed, accusing Republicans of “pulling off one of the great political heists in American history: the theft of a seat on the United States Supreme Court.” In response to Trump’s nomination of Judge Neil Gorsuch to fill the Scalia seat, Merkley and others are calling upon new Senate minority leader Schumer to filibuster the nomination.

A filibuster would be the height of hypocrisy for Democrats, given their posture last year. Moreover, just three years ago, Senate Democrats used the so-called “nuclear option” to change Senate rules and prohibit any filibuster of lower-court nominations. The nuclear option netted Democrats three powerful D.C. circuit judges, whom dinky-Reid and others soon credited for standing ready to protect liar-nObamacare and other regulatory programs in court. Now that Democrats no longer control the White House, they returned to their Bush-era position as the party of judicial-nomination filibusters.

The Gorsuch nomination puts Schumer and his colleagues in a spot. Progressives are demanding a filibuster, but the costs would be steep. Republicans would be likely to counter by using the Democrats’ own tool—the “nuclear option”—to prevent filibuster of any future Supreme Court nominations by President Trump, should any more vacancies arise. And more vacancies are possible, even likely—perhaps the seats of the 83-year-old Ginsburg whom Democrats were pushing to retire before the end of liar-nObama’s term or 80-year-old Justice Anthony Kennedy, the “swing” justice rumored to be contemplating retirement. The Washington Post recently reported that Democrats are urging Ginsburg to keep up her health, exercise more, and “eat more kale.” “I have O-negative blood that she’s welcome to at any time,” said a University of Michigan lecturer.

While Gorsuch’s judicial approach might most closely resemble Scalia’s as suggested by Gorsuch’s remarks in honor of Scalia last year, the closest comparison for the upcoming confirmation fight might be the one that ensued for John Roberts’s 2005 nomination to succeed William Rehnquist. Like Gorsuch, Roberts was nominated to replace a conservative, and like Gorsuch, Roberts had credentials beyond criticism. Both men present themselves well in public. Gorsuch may not get as many votes as Roberts did, but given the number of Democratic Senators facing reelection in states that voted for Trump, Gorsuch’s margin of victory should be comfortable.

Moderate Republican senators such as Lindsey Graham and John McCain have expressed nominal reservations about using the nuclear option to confirm Gorsuch. If Senate Democrats do filibuster Gorsuch, though, then McCain, Graham, and others could rightly conclude that Democrats would filibuster any conservative nominee. Schumer is surely smart enough to know that he ought to let Gorsuch replace the like-minded Scalia and save the filibuster for the next nomination—the one that could significantly tip the Court’s ideological balance. The question is whether progressives’ inflamed passions will allow Senate Democrats to hold their fire until then.'

{wnd.com} ~ How naïve could Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell really be?

Apparently, according to a number of news reports, he is hesitant to invoke the so-called “nuclear option” to ensure confirmation of Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch.

The “nuclear option” is a simple rules change that allows the party in control of the Senate to limit filibusters and confirm Cabinet members, Supreme Court justices and federal judges more easily.

Why is McConnell reticent to pull the trigger? Because, always thinking like a loser, he fears the Democrats might do the same thing if and when they take control of the Senate again.

How bizarre is this?

Of course the Democrats will invoke the nuclear option! They invented it.

They did it under Harry dinky-Reid in 2013 to make it easier for President Barack liar-nObama to have his way with Republicans. They would do it again in a heartbeat.

The notion that Democrats won’t use all their power when they take control in the future is crazy. Abuse of power is their modus operandi. Collegiality and compromise are not in their vocabulary. They are out to win at all costs.

Donald Trump gets this.

But McConnell is afraid of his own shadow.

It’s this kind of thinking that caused the Republican leadership in Congress to roll over time and time again, never offering even the slightest opposition to liar-nObama’s agenda from 2008 through 2016.

If Republicans in Congress would demonstrate a little backbone, they wouldn’t have to be looking over their shoulder at the specter of losing control of the House and Senate. They’d be the semi-permanent majority. But McConnell and Paul Ryan don’t think like this. Neither did John backstabber-Boehner.

This is what permitted the “fundamental transformation” of America over the last eight years – six of those year while Republicans controlled one or more houses of Congress.

I almost feel like I’m wasting my breath on McConnell. Maybe Trump can get through to him. Democrats will do whatever they can to stall every single key appointment by Trump. To them, the election results of 2016 was the equivalent of a declaration of war. They are digging in, securing their fortifications. They will fight Trump by any means necessary – and I mean any.

Knowing that, why aren’t Republicans using their legitimate power to move the ball forward, to show the American people what they can do, how their agenda is better for the country? Do they lack confidence in their own ideas? That’s OK; Trump has enough backbone and determination for all of them.

This week Trump chided McConnell on the idea of invoking the “nuclear option.”

You would think McConnell is struggling with this simple exercise of political strength as if it meant he was actually going to vaporize all Democrats with a nuclear weapon.

By the way, if Democrats had the chance to do that to the Republicans, don’t think they wouldn’t consider it.

Does McConnell just want to be loved?

It’s never going to happen.

The Democrats don’t even respect him, let alone love him.

Respect is what he should be after. Instead, he has played the patsy.

Look around the Democratic Party today and see if you detect any semblance of collegiality or compromise.

My goodness, the Democrats are at war. They are fighting as if their lives depended on it. If they had 52 votes in the Senate, they might lock up the Republican minority. And here is Mitch McConnell wringing his hands in fear about using his legitimate authority and power to advance the Republican agenda.

It’s sickening.

I admire the Democrats for their tenacity, their commitment, their relentless fortitude – even when they are dead wrong, which is all the time.

Republicans should stop fearing what’s going to happen when they lose power and start delivering results that will keep them in power.

Super Bowl LI (that's 51 for you non-NFL/Roman numeral fans) featured all the elements of a public attention-grabber: a flashy young Atlanta Falcons team facing the New England Patriots' dynasty, a seemingly insurmountable halftime lead blown and the first overtime Super Bowl in NFL history. Oh, and politics. Yeah, in 2017 America nothing is unsullied by our true national pastime — political bickering.

First, we back up to last Friday before the game, when the Boston Globe found some Patriots fans to be feeling suddenly un-Patriot-ic. The Globe reported, "The 'Make America Great Again' hat that [quarterback Tom] Brady kept stationed in his locker for a time put some on edge, as did the letter of support [head coach Bill] Belichick wrote to Trump prior to the election. [Team owner Robert] Kraft, a longtime friend who credits the president with supporting him after the 2011 death of his wife, Myra, attended last month's inauguration. The willingness of three prominent members of the organization to associate themselves with Trump — particularly in a state as blue as Massachusetts — has left some scratching their heads." Conservatives, of course, are used to hearing public figures disagree and even viciously slam us. For those sheltered souls in the deep-blue Bay State, however, these are uncharted waters. Maybe they'll cheer to know that tight end Martellus Bennett will boycott the White House ceremony celebrating the Patriots' win. 

Second, we'll note just what conservatives usually have to put up with: leftist lecturing. Many Americans watch the game for the ads. Audi hectored us about the phony gender wage gap. But immigration was the dominant theme, with not one but two and three ads moralizing about the issue. We suspect most Americans vastly prefer to be entertained by humorous and silly commercials than ads designed to shame half the population. The same goes for the sport itself. We watch to see the clash of combatants on the gridiron, not the pouty nonsense of kneeling social justice warriors. Let's make sports (and commercials) great again.

{townhall.com} ~ One of the painful realities of our time is that most public schools in most low-income, inner-city neighborhoods produce educational outcomes that are far below the outcomes in other neighborhoods, and especially in more affluent neighborhoods.

Attempts to assign blame are too numerous to name, much less explore. But as someone who has, for more than 40 years, been researching those particular minority schools that have been successful, I am struck both by their success and by how varied are the ways that success has been achieved.

In doing research for a 1976 article, "Patterns of Black Excellence," I discovered that the educational methods used to educate low-income, minority children in successful schools ranged from very traditional and strict methods in some parochial schools to very different approaches in other schools.

One of the most successful schools I visited was in an aging building in a rundown ghetto neighborhood in New York, where a friend told me that I was "brave" -- he meant foolhardy -- to park a car.

Instead of being given a guided tour of the school, as happens in too many other places, the principal simply walked with me down the corridors on each floor, and let me decide which classroom door I wanted to open and go in.

Wherever we went in, the class in progress was clearly one where children were learning, were well-behaved, and were saying intelligent things in plain English. They were doing work that was either at their grade level or somewhat above their grade level.

Yet most of these kids were looked like kids you can see in any ghetto across the country. Most were from families whose incomes were low enough for their children to qualify for free or subsidized lunches in school.

After a day spent observing the classes, and later examining the statistics on their outstanding performances on various tests, I was moved to the verge of tears as I left. Why couldn't this be done in many other schools?

One reason was that this principal did not follow the rigid dogmas imposed by the educational establishment, but used whatever ways of teaching produced good results. That makes waves. There were attempts to get him removed as principal.

Nor was he the only successful educator to come under fire from the educational establishment.

In California, high school teacher Jaime Escalante taught calculus so successfully in a predominantly Latino school that, at one time, something like one-fourth of all Latino students who passed the AP Calculus test -- in the entire country -- came from the school where he taught.

Like other highly successful educators, especially in places where failure is the norm, Escalante was controversial within the education establishment. The teachers' union demanded that his large math class be reduced in size. He ended up leaving that high school to go teach elsewhere.

When Marva Collins was a public school teacher who came to work early to help some of her students, and who used teaching methods that differed from what education schools and education bureaucrats prescribed, she likewise came under fire.

She left and created her own school in a Chicago black neighborhood. This was done with little money and initially with old textbooks discarded by the public school system. Her success was striking enough for her to be offered an opportunity to be nominated to be Secretary of Education.

After much soul-searching, Marva Collins declined the offer. It was probably just as well. She could run her own school in Chicago as she wished. In Washington, the political jungle was another story.

Against this background, it is hardly surprising that Betsy DeVos, who has for more than 20 years been promoting parental choice in the schools their children attend, has come under heavy fire from the educational establishment.

If she becomes Secretary of Education, the stranglehold of the teachers' unions and the educational bureaucracy on the education of millions of students will be in jeopardy. If her nomination is rejected, millions of children from low-income, inner-city families will lose a chance to escape a painfully failing system.

President Donald Trump hit a home-run with Education Secretary, Betsy DeVos’ option to look at alternative ways in teaching our children. Education Secretary, Betsy DeVos is a win for our children in public schools.

A few generations ago, America’s public education was #1 in teaching our children. Remember History as a class subject being taught? For History, much teachings of our children in public schools today is instructing left-wing politics; not the actual lives, wisdoms, beliefs, values, and/or the simple experiences of our Founding Fathers, our Constitution, and its freedoms based on Judeo-Christian values.

It appears teaching English may have been of the past. Smartphones are teaching or allowing all to use the near sound of words rather than teaching distinct spelling.

How about Social Classes? How often do you see children pass on others’ private property; unaware they are illegally trespassing on others land, as they are not properly taught?

Earlier, public education taught history before Capitol Hill legislators, and specifically before the Democrat Party, embraced labor unions into public education; and inserting labor union views within.

Public education is different today from the school classes as you may have seen on the TV show, Andy Griffith, with school teacher, Helen Crump.

In 1979 President Jimmy Carter proposed and Capitol Hill legislators passed into law a new Presidential Cabinet associate, the Department of Education.

Since that time, Capitol Hill Democrats have welcomed labor unions into education. Capitol Hill Democrats introduced, supported, and passed legislation promoting unions and their members to provide money, labor, and other materials to the Democrat Party and their candidates.

Labor Union bosses serve as reigning partners for the Democrat Party. Governments and labor unions are the money base of the Democrat Party. The Department of Education now employs more left-wing thinking administrators and their subordinates.

For the left thinking ones, it is called Progressive; a misuse of our English language. Moe definitive would say an Active Radical.

Conservatives, often defined as Conformists, are on the right road in teaching our children the educational basics in life. Our colleges and universities are improperly teaching our children Socialism, etc.

At the same time, Capitol Hill Democrat Party legislators led the way for introducing, supporting, and passing legislations that prohibited all businesses; corporate, partners, and even individuals in business from providing any money, labor, and other materials to political parties and/or their candidates. Businesses in the private sector are the money base of the Republican Party.

Over the last 50 years or so, the Democrat Party has invited Labor Unions to welcome into government agencies. Five Labor Unions closely associated to public education includes: NEA, AFT, AFSCME, UFCW, and the SEIU; a huge amount of money, labor, and materials

There may be areas whereas educational employees may need union representation; however, many excessive income demands as seen with teachers in Chicago, IL who leave the children’s educational quality and children’s results worsening.

What will you choose? The Democrat Party’s choice is for more government, more government regulation, and more government jobs; all covered and called Socialism.

The Republican Party’s choice is for less government, less regulation, less government jobs, and more jobs in the private sector; all covered and customarily called free enterprise.

{wnd.com} ~How deliciously ironic that the unhinged Democrats are fueling, not paralyzing, President Donald Trump and energizing, not intimidating, his supporters – whose numbers are growing.

The entire liberal establishment – from the cultural crybabies to the lefty campus snowflakes to the mainstream media to the leading Democratic politicians – is having a nervous breakdown, and it is ugly and self-defeating.

These bullies have been doing for years what they’re now falsely accusing Trump and the Republicans of doing. They are the ones who try to suppress speech, who act lawlessly and tyrannically, who undermine the democratic process, who breach the peace and who disrupt our domestic tranquility.

I remember talking to some college students in liberal la-la land after the election who were swallowing the liberals’ scaremongering narrative that America was on the verge of becoming a police state. They really thought Trump might impose martial law, that he would suppress women’s rights, that he would discriminate against minorities, that he would cause the stock market to crash immediately and that he would start a nuclear war.

I told them they had nothing to fear from Trump regarding any of that and that this was all manufactured madness from liberals who were merely projecting. If they wanted to be vigilant against any group, I said, they ought to watch the left, which was just getting warmed up for a four-year sustained temper tantrum.

It’s just a beautifully simplistic plan. The left goes ballistic over Trump’s election, warning of impending doom. No sooner has he been sworn in than they try to fulfill their own prophecy by staging phony protests about the horrors Trump is supposedly already visiting on the nation. They lied in their prophecy, and they are lying to create the false appearance that their warnings have been validated. They are behaving like petulant children, unwilling even to accept the legitimacy of the election, much less give Trump a chance to prove them wrong.

Their conduct – across the board – is inexcusable. Just consider their outrages so far – and notice how they are guilty of precisely the behavior they are condemning:

The Women’s March on Washington was ostensibly to protest Trump’s vulgarity and policy noxiousness, but it actually pitted women against men, celebrated and glorified the killing of innocent unborn children, and provided a forum for morally and mentally disturbed celebrities, such as Madonna, to utter their own vulgarities and thoughts of violent acts (e.g., blowing up the White House). Do these people ever consider the embarrassing hypocrisy of their promoting and committing violence in the name of protesting violence from the right, as paranoid and unwarranted as their fear of such violence is?

*There were violent protests over a planned speech by Breitbart editor Milo Yiannopoulos at the University of California, Berkeley. The students’ rationale? Yiannopoulos’ message – which ridicules and condemns leftist duplicity, especially on free speech – incites violence. But the only violence it incites comes from them.
*Acting Attorney General Sally Yates showed audacity and impropriety in refusing to enforce a legal order of the president’s designed to protect American citizens. What would the left have done if a Republican holdover had dared to defy an liar-nObama order? What would the liberal media’s response have been?
*Militant loony Sarah Silverman, during the Berkeley riots, tweeted, in effect, that the military should overthrow President Trump. Not to be outdone, her fellow Hollywood liberal Judd Apatow tweeted in reference to the Berkeley riots, “This is just the beginning. When will all the fools who are still supporting Trump realize what is at stake?”
*A woman interrupted the confirmation vote of the Senate Judiciary Committee on the nominee for attorney general, Jeff Sessions, with this outburst: “You have furthered the nomination of a man who will not protect the vulnerable.”
*House Minority Leader Nancy Pulosi says Trump’s Supreme Court justice nominee, Neil Gorsuch, has hostility toward children in school and children with autism. “It’s a very hostile appointment,” Pulosi told CNN’s Jake Tapper. “Hail fellow well met, lovely family, I’m sure, but as far as your family is concerned – and if you breathe air, drink water, eat food, take medicine or in any other way interact with the courts – this is a very bad decision.”
*Democratic Sen. Elizabeth dinky-Warren says Gorsuch is the reward to powerful interests who have tried “to turn the Supreme Court into one more rigged game that works only for the rich and the powerful.” This is the thanks Gorsuch gets for his commitment to honoring the Constitution and the rule of law instead of imposing an ideological agenda.

These are but a few of the myriad examples of unhinged liberals who are living in – and trying to spread – their false reality. Law-abiding citizens, however, have nothing to fear from these people because their actions are backfiring. Their goal is to demonize, delegitimize and emasculate President Trump, Republicans and conservatives, but they are making them stronger and more popular.

The crazier these liberals become the more people will realize just who represents a threat in America – and it’s not Trump and the Republicans. Primarily because of Trump’s refreshing and bold actions so far – but also because of liberal irrationality and bad faith – even formerly tentative and squishy Republicans are getting behind Trump to advance a long-overdue remedial agenda to restore America’s greatness.

I hope liberals keep it up – showing every day exactly who they are and how out of the mainstream they are – because it will further marginalize them and facilitate the advance of pro-growth and pro-security conservative policies.

Obama’s Executive Order In 2014 Paved The Way For This To Happen

Nearly a month after this order was signed US diplomatic cables show that Soros did “undermine the processes and institutions in Ukraine.” Due to Soros’s illegal intervention into a peaceful transition of power, mass conflict erupted and an estimated 9,600 men, women, and children lost their lives.

Clearly that is interfering in the process. So why didn’t President Obama charge Soros as a threat to the United States national security? It’s because Soros flooded Obama and Hillary’s Democratic Party with about $100 million in donations. You really think that Obama is going to charge someone that has donated that much to their party?

Soros began his takeover back in 2004, as he declared “it is the central focus of my life” and “a matter of life and death” to push his influence on the American people and our democracy. While 2004 failed, Soros had turned to 2016 and had become Hillary’s highest donor. We know that Hillary listens to people that donate to her, so she would have been listening to Soros the entire time.

Now that the Democratic Party has been completely defeated, Soros is doing what he can to go against President Trump, saying “democracy is now in crisis.” Soros has been active in his fight against Trump, as he was discovered to have been the mastermind behind paying protesters to cause as much damage and destruction as possible.

During the election season, there were several Black Lives Matter protests that quickly turned violent. These protesters started riots, went up against the police force, and generally made life difficult for law-abiding citizens. Then came a report that Soros was paying these protesters around $15 an hour to protest, and they would have their expenses paid for.

Soros Paid Protesters To Riot And Cause Damage

It didn’t just stop at the Black Lives Matter protests either. There were several protests against Trump during the election season that turned violent. Again, another report circulated that protesters were getting paid to cause as much destruction as possible.

Considering that one of these protests actually shut down a speech that Trump had planned to make, it’s safe to say that they were effective at the time. Not to mention that these people were endangering other people around them and creating a lot of problems for the police forces that were assigned to them.

It’s about time that Trump did something against Soros. This man has been responsible for funding protests that have turned violent in the United States. He has been responsible for attempting to control the Democrats through his donations to the Party. This man is a menace to society, and Trump is finally labeling Soros like he should be: a “National Security Threat.”

Other nations are starting to do something against Soros as well. Hungary became the first nation to come forward and do what they could to bring down Soros. Hungary said that they will use “all the tools at its disposal” to “sweep out” various NGOs that are tied to Soros. In other words, his wealth won’t be able to influence government positions anymore.

Again, Soros has done what he could to help finance and protest against Trump’s inauguration. A report came out that showed he was directly tied to over 50 groups that were set to protest the inauguration of Trump. If he is tied to that many groups, then that is a lot of money invested in people just to protest something.

Share this article to show that Trump is finally going to label Soros for what he is, and that is a threat to the security of the United States. Trump was able to do this thanks to Obama’s Executive Order back in 2014. Considering all the damage that Soros has done to the United States through his funding of protests, this was a long time coming.

{freedomsback.com} ~ There are many people to thank for the coming accession of Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court. Donald Trump for winning the election. liar-Hillary Clinton for losing it. Mitch McConnell for holding open the high court seat through 2016, resolute and immovable against furious (and hypocritical) opposition from Democrats and media. And, of course, Harry dinky-Reid.

God bless Harry dinky-Reid. It’s because of him that Gorsuch is guaranteed elevation to the court. In 2013, as Senate majority leader, dinky-Reid blew up the joint. He abolished the filibuster for federal appointments both executive (such as Cabinet) and judicial, for all district and circuit court judgeships (excluding only the Supreme Court). Thus unencumbered, the Democratic-controlled Senate packed the lower courts with liar-nObama nominees.

dinky-Reid was warned that the day would come when Republicans would be in the majority and would exploit the new rules to equal and opposite effect. That day is here.

The result is striking. Trump’s Cabinet appointments are essentially unstoppable because Republicans need only 51 votes and they have 52. They have no need to reach 60, the number required to overcome a filibuster. Democrats are powerless to stop anyone on their own.

And equally powerless to stop Gorsuch. But isn’t the filibuster for Supreme Court nominees still standing? Yes, but if the Democrats dare try it, everyone knows that Majority Leader McConnell will do exactly what dinky-Reid did and invoke the nuclear option — filibuster abolition — for the Supreme Court, too.

dinky-Reid never fully appreciated the magnitude of his crime against the Senate. As I wrote at the time, the offense was not abolishing the filibuster — you can argue that issue either way — but that he did it by simple majority. In a serious body, a serious rule change requires a serious supermajority. (Amending the U.S. Constitution, for example, requires two-thirds of both houses plus three-quarters of all the states.) Otherwise you have rendered the place lawless. If in any given session you can summon up the day’s majority to change the institution’s fundamental rules, there are no rules.

McConnell can at any moment finish dinky-Reid’s work by extending filibuster abolition to the Supreme Court. But he hasn’t. He has neither invoked the nuclear option nor even threatened to. And he’s been asked often enough. His simple and unwavering response is that Gorsuch will be confirmed. Translation: If necessary, he will drop the big one.

It’s obvious that he prefers not to. No one wants to again devalue and destabilize the Senate by changing a major norm by simple majority vote. But dinky-Reid set the precedent.

Note that the issue is not the filibuster itself. There’s nothing sacred about it. Its routine use is a modern development — with effects both contradictory and unpredictable. The need for 60 votes can contribute to moderation and compromise because to achieve a supermajority you need to get a buy-in from at least some of the opposition. On the other hand, in a hyper-partisan atmosphere (like today’s), a 60-vote threshold can ensure that everything gets stopped and nothing gets done.

Filibuster abolition is good for conservatives today. It will be good for liberals tomorrow when they have regained power. There’s no great principle at stake, though as a practical matter, in this era of widespread frustration with congressional gridlock, the new norm may be salutary.

What is not salutary is the dinky-Reid precedent of changing the old norm using something so transient and capricious as the majority of the day. As I argued in 2015, eventually the two parties will need to work out a permanent arrangement under which major rule changes will require a supermajority (say, of two-thirds) to ensure substantial bipartisan support.

There are conflicting schools of thought as to whether even such a grand bargain could not itself be overturned by some future Congress — by simple majority led by the next Harry dinky-Reid. Nonetheless, even a problematic entente is better than the free-for-all that governs today.

The operative word, however, is “eventually.” Such an agreement is for the future. Not yet, not today. Republicans are no fools. They are not about to forfeit the advantage bequeathed to them by Harry dinky-Reid’s shortsighted willfulness. They will zealously retain the nuclear option for Supreme Court nominees through the current Republican tenure of Congress and the presidency.

After which they should be ready to parlay and press the reset button. But only then. As the young Augustine famously beseeched the Lord, “Give me chastity and continency, only not yet.”

{townhall.com} ~ In just a matter of days -- perhaps next Monday -- a decision will be made in Washington affecting the futures of millions of children in low-income communities, and in the very troubled area of race relations in America.

An opportunity has arisen -- belatedly -- that may not come again in this generation. That is an opportunity to greatly expand the kinds of schools that have successfully educated, to a high level, inner-city youngsters whom the great bulk of public schools fail to educate to even minimally adequate levels.

What may seem on the surface to be merely a matter of whether the U.S. Senate confirms or rejects the nomination of Betsy DeVos to be head of the U.S. Department of Education involves far bigger stakes.

The teachers' unions and the education establishment in general know how big those stakes are, and have mounted an all-out smear campaign to prevent her from being confirmed.

What makes Mrs. DeVos seem so threatening to the teachers' unions and their political allies?

She has, for more than 20 years, been promoting programs, laws and policies that enable parents to choose which schools their children will attend -- whether these are charter schools, voucher schools or parochial schools.

Some of these charter schools -- especially those in the chain of the Success Academy schools and the chain of the KIPP (Knowledge Is Power Program) schools -- operate in low-income, minority neighborhoods in the inner-cities, and turn out graduates who can match the educational performances of students in affluent suburbs. What is even more remarkable, these charter schools are often housed in the very same buildings, in the very same ghettoes, where students in the regular public schools fail to learn even the basics in English or math.

You and I may think this is great. But, to the teachers' unions, such charter schools are a major threat to their members' jobs -- and ultimately to the unions' power or existence.

If parents have a choice of where to send their children, many of those parents are not likely to send them to failing public schools, when there are alternative schools available that equip those youngsters with an education that can open the way to a far better future for them.

Already there are tens of thousands of children on waiting lists to get into charter schools, just in New York alone. Those waiting lists are a clear threat to teachers' unions, whose leaders think schools exist to provide guaranteed jobs for their members.

Mrs. DeVos has shown for more than 20 years that she thinks schools exist to educate children. One of the biggest complaints about her is that, unlike Secretaries of Education before her, she does not come out of the government's education establishment. Considering what a miserable job that establishment has done, especially in inner-city schools, her independence is a plus.

Teachers' unions have fought for years to prevent charter schools from being created. Now that such schools have been created, and there are now huge waiting lists, the teachers' unions have gotten politicians to put a numerical cap on the number of such schools, regardless of how large the waiting lists are.

Desperate attempts to smear Betsy DeVos, in order to prevent her from being confirmed as Secretary of Education, have not let the facts get in the way.

She is accused of "steering public dollars away from traditional public schools." But nobody can steer anything anywhere, when it is individual parents who make the decisions as to where they want their children educated. The money follows the children.

Neither the money nor the children get steered by education bureaucrats, as happens with traditional public schools.

If charter schools educate one-third of the students in a district, and get one-third of the money, how does that reduce the amount of money per child in the public school? Actually, charter schools usually get less money per student, but produce better results.

American education is at a crossroads. If the teachers' unions and their allies can defeat the nomination of Mrs. DeVos, and the Republicans substitute someone else more acceptable to the education establishment, a historic opportunity will be lost, and may never come again in this generation.

The PLO is disoriented, panicked and hysterical. Speaking to Newsweek this week, Saeb Erekat, PLO chief Mahmoud Abbas’s chief conduit to Israel and the Americans, complained that since President Donald Trump was sworn into office, no administration official had spoken to them.

“I don’t know any of them Trump’s advisers. We have sent them letters, written messages. They don’t even bother to respond to us.”

The Trump administration’s shunning of the PLO is a marked departure from the policies of its predecessor. For former president Barack liar-nObama, together with Iran, the Palestinians were viewed as the key players in the Middle East. Abbas was the first foreign leader liar-nObama called after taking office.

Erekat’s statement reveals something that is generally obscured. Despite its deep support in Europe, the UN and the international Left, without US support, the PLO is irrelevant.

All the achievements the PLO racked up under liar-nObama – topped off with the former president’s facilitation of UN Security Council Resolution 2334 against Israel – are suddenly irrelevant. Their impact dissipated the minute Trump took office.

Israel, in contrast, is more relevant than ever.

While Trump occasionally pays lip service to making peace in the Middle East, his real goal is to win the war against jihadist Islam. And he rightly views Israel as a woefully underutilized strategic ally that shares his goal and is well-placed to help him achieve it.

During the electoral campaign, Trump often spoke derisively of liar-nObama’s nuclear pact with Tehran. And he repeatedly promised to eradicate Islamic State. But when asked to explain what he intended to do on these scores, Trump demurred. You don’t expect me to let the enemy know my plan, do you?

Trump’s critics dismissed his statements as empty talk. But since he came into office, each day signals that he does have a plan and that he is implementing it. The plan coming into focus involves a multidimensional campaign that if successful will both neutralize Iran as a strategic threat and obliterate ISIS.

Regarding Iran specifically, Trump’s moves to date involve operations on three levels. First, there is the rhetorical campaign to distinguish the Trump administration from its successor.

Trump launched the campaign on Twitter on Wednesday writing, “Iran is rapidly taking over more and more of Iraq even after the US has squandered three trillion dollars there.”

Shortly before his post, Iraq’s Prime Minister Haider Abadi appointed Iranian proxy Qasim al Araji to serve as his interior minister.

At a minimum, Trump’s statement signaled an abandonment of liar-nObama’s policy of cooperating with Iranian forces and Iranian-controlled Iraqi forces in the fight against ISIS in Iraq.

At around the same time Trump released his tweet about Iranian control of Iraq, his National Security Adviser Lt.-Gen. (ret.) Michael Flynn took a knife to liar-nObama’s obsequious stand on Iran during a press briefing at the White House.

While Trump’s statement related to Iran’s growing power in Iraq, Flynn’s remarks were directed against its nonconventional threat and its regional aggression. Both were on display earlier this week.

On Sunday, Iran carried out its 12th ballistic missile test since concluding its nuclear deal with liar-nObama, and its first since Trump took office.

On Monday, Iranian-controlled Houthi forces in Yemen attacked a Saudi ship in the Bab al-Mandab choke point connecting the Red Sea to the Indian Ocean.

Flynn condemned both noting that they threatened the US and its allies and destabilized the Middle East. The missile test, he said, violated UN Security Council Resolution 2231 that anchored the nuclear deal.

Flynn then took a step further. He drew a sharp contrast between the liar-nObama administration’s responses to Tehran’s behavior and the Trump administration’s views of Tehran’s provocative actions.

“The liar-nObama administration failed to respond adequately to Tehran’s malign actions – including weapons transfers, support for terrorism, and other violations of international norms,” he noted.

“The Trump administration condemns such actions by Iran that undermine security, prosperity and stability throughout and beyond the Middle East and place American lives at risk.”

Flynn ended his remarks by threatening Iran directly.

“As of today, we are officially putting Iran on notice,” he warned.

While Flynn gave no details of what the US intends to do to Iran if it continues its aggressive behavior, the day before he made his statement, the US opened a major, multilateral, British-led naval exercise in the Persian Gulf. US naval forces in the region have been significantly strengthened since January 20 and rules of engagement for US forces in the Persian Gulf have reportedly been relaxed.

Perhaps the most potent aspect of Trump’s emerging strategy for defeating the forces of jihad is the one that hasn’t been discussed but it was signaled, through a proxy, the day after Trump took office.

On January 21, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu posted a remarkable message to the Iranian people on his Facebook page. Netanyahu drew a sharp distinction between the “warm” Iranian people and the “repressive” regime.

Netanyahu opened his remarks by invoking the new administration.

“I plan to speak soon with President Trump about how to counter the threat of the Iranian regime, which calls for Israel’s destruction,” the prime minister explained.

“But it struck me recently that I’ve spoken a lot about the Iranian regime and not enough about the Iranian people, or for that matter, to the Iranian people. So I hope this message reaches every Iranian.”

Netanyahu paid homage to the Green Revolution of 2009 that was brutally repressed by the regime. In his words, “I’ll never forget the images of proud, young students eager for change gunned down in the streets of Tehran in 2009.”

Netanyahu’s statement was doubtlessly coordinated with the new administration. It signaled that destabilizing with the goal of overthrowing the regime in Tehran is a major component of Trump’s strategy.

By the looks of things in Iran, regime opponents are taking heart from the new tone emanating from Washington. Iranian dissidents have asked for a meeting with Trump’s team. And a week and a half before Trump’s inauguration, regime opponents staged a massive anti-regime protest.

Protesters used the public funeral of former Iranian president Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani to denounce the regime. In 2009, Rafsanjani sided with many of the Green Movement’s positions. His daughter was a leader of the protests.

Among the estimated 2.5 million people who attended the funeral, scores of thousands interrupted the official eulogies to condemn the regime, condemn the war with Syria and condemn the regime’s Russian allies.

This then brings us to Syria, where the war against ISIS and the campaign against Iran are set to converge. To date, Trump has limited his stated goals in Syria to setting up safe zones inside the country where displaced Syrians can live securely. Saudi Arabia and the Emirates have agreed to cooperate in these efforts.

Trump is now engaged in a talks with the Kremlin both above and below the radar about the possibility of coordinating their operations in Syria to enable safe zones to be established.

It is fairly clear what the US objective here would be. The US wishes to convince Moscow to effectively end its alliance with the Iranian regime. Trump repeatedly stated that the entire spectrum of US-Russian relations is now in play. Talks between the two governments will encompass Ukraine, US economic sanctions on Russia, nuclear weapons, Russian bases in Syria and Russia’s alliance with Iran and its Hezbollah proxies.

Everything is on the table.

Trump understands that Russia is threatened by Sunni jihadists and that Russia views Iran as a counterweight to ISIS and its counterparts in the Caucasus. A deal between the US and Russia could involve a Russian agreement to end its support for Iran and Hezbollah in exchange for US acceptance of Russia’s annexation of Crimea, cancellation of sanctions and perhaps some form of acquiescence to Russia’s military presence in Syria.

Russia and the US could then collaborate with Arab states with Israeli support to defeat ISIS and end the Syrian refugee crisis.

Combined with actions the Trump administration is already taking in the Persian Gulf and Red Sea, and its telegraphed aim of backing a popular Iranian insurrection, Trump’s hypothetical deal with Russia would neutralize Iran as a conventional and nonconventional threat.

This then brings us back to Israel – the first target of Iran’s aggression. If Trump’s strategy is successful, then the PLO will not be Israel’s only foe that is rendered irrelevant.

Earlier this week it was reported that in the two and- a-half years since the last war with Hamas, the Iranian-backed, Muslim Brotherhood-affiliate terrorist group has rebuilt its forces. Today Hamas fields assets and troops that match the capabilities it fielded during Operation Protective Edge.

Hezbollah, with its effective control over Lebanon, including the Lebanese military, is a strategic threat to Israel.

To date, Israel has demurred from targeting Hezbollah and Hamas missile arsenals, but not because it is incapable of destroying them. Israel’s efforts to avoid conflict with its enemies, even at the price of their rearmament, also haven’t stemmed from fear of European or UN condemnation or even from fear of the so-called “CNN-effect.”

Israel has chosen not to defeat its enemies – not to mention the EU-backed NGOs that whitewash them – because the Americans have supported them.

The liar-Clinton administration barred Israel from taking decisive action against either Hezbollah or the Palestinians.

The Bush administration forced Israel to stand down during the war with Hezbollah in 2006.

The liar-nObama administration effectively sided with Hamas against Israel in 2014.

In other words, across three administrations, the Americans made it impossible for Israel to take decisive military action against its enemies.

Under liar-nObama, the US also derailed every Israeli attempt to curb the power of EU-funded subversive organizations operating from inside of Israel.

Trump’s emerging strategy on Iran and ISIS, together with his refusal to operate in accordance with the standard US playbook on the Palestinians, indicates that the US has abandoned this practice. Under Trump, Israel is free to defeat its enemies. Their most powerful deterrent against Israel – the US – is gone.

Israel has long argued that there is no difference between al-Qaida and Hamas or between ISIS and Hezbollah. It has also argued that Iran threatens not only Israel but the world as a whole. Hoping to co-opt the forces of jihad rather than defeat them, successive US administrations have chosen to deny this obvious truth.

Unlike his predecessors, Trump is serious about winning. To do so, he is even willing to take the radical step of accepting Israel as an ally.

The PLO is right to be hysterical.

Navy SEAL William Ryan Owen was killed during a secret raid on Al-Qaeda operatives in Yemen, but the heavily armed enemy seemed to know these SEALs were coming.

Well, according to Capt. Joseph John, Obama has hired individuals involved in the Muslim Brotherhood to work in the Washington bureaucracy, including three brothers who were fired and are facing charges of accessing congressional computers without permission, as per Breitbart. These three Muslim brothers could have accessed highly sensitive data and could have tipped off the enemy about this planned raid, via Daily Mail.

Granted, the case is nothing more than circumstantial, but it is highly suspicious. These brothers were hired and given a top security clearance and then worked for three intelligence panel members and five members of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs.

It was well after the failed mission, which killed Navy SEAL Owen and a young girl, that these men were fired by the Trump administration.

Although one Trump official admitted that finding leakers is as likely as identifying “cockroaches under the couch,” there are apparently some officials in the Trump administration who firmly believe these men accessed something they shouldn’t have, via Politico.

Indeed, Captain John believes there is a deep infiltration in our government, started by the Obama administration. Conspiracy theory? The liberals would have you believe that, but even when Obama was first running in 2008, some thought he was some kind of stealth candidate.

“For nearly eight years, Obama has been filling the Washington bureaucracy, including DHS, the CIA, DOD, the National Security Council, the White House, the State Department, every U.S. intelligence agency, and the U.S. Armed Forces, with thousands of members of the CAIR, MPAC, the Muslim Brotherhood, and other Muslim Brotherhood front groups,” Captain John wrote.

Obama has had two terms to fill these government positions with those dedicated to Islamic ideology. It is going to take a considerable amount of time for Trump to undo the damage that may have been caused. There literally could be Muslim jihadists involved in every facet of our government.

Of course, you can trust liberals to fail to see the big picture. They will immediately argue Obama’s hiring practices were based on a desire for “diversity.” That is a liberal excuse for many things these days, and it does not excuse any of the troubling connections here.

There should be outrage on many different counts if Capt. Joseph John is right, including over the suspicion that Obama deliberately favored Muslims for many of these positions without thoroughly vetting them. If you think it’s unlikely Obama could have let dangerous men into our government by accident, well, you are just being naive.

If there is any upside of this story, it is the fact that Obama can no longer damage this country. A true American has taken the reins.
