WITH YOUR SECOND CUP OF COFFEE
On this day in 1987, a West German teenager determined to prove PresidentRonald Reagan wrong ended up helping Reagan win the Cold War. Mathias Rust, a then-19-year-old with a love of flying, was extremely disheartened at the American president’s refusal to accommodate Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev at the Summit in Reykjavik, Iceland. He set out to prove that the Soviets were serious about peace by safely penetrating their omnipotent military and fly straight to Moscow. Rusttold Air and Space magazine in a 2005 interview: “How would Reagan continue to say it was the ‘Empire of Evil’ if me, in a small aircraft, can go straight there and be unharmed?” Although he didn’t broker the deal, a young pilot changed the international dialogue and showed that the world’s most feared military arsenal wasn’t so fearsome after all on this day in history.

BLUMENTHAL ON CLINTON PAYROLL WHILE HUNTING  PROFITS IN LIBYA
Longtime Clinton confidant Sidney Blumenthal was being paid “about $10,000 a month as a full-time employee of the Clinton Foundation” while he was providing intelligence on Libya to then Secretary of State Hilly ClintonPolitico reports. The payments, which reportedly continued under a consultant contract until March, add a new dimension to scrutiny of Blumenthal’s financial relationship with the Clintons, and raise new questions about his Libya memos emailed to Clinton via her private email account.
Politico: “The memos — and Blumenthal’s concurrent work for the foundation…and a pair of businesses seeking potentially lucrative contracts in Libya — underscore the blurred lines between her State Department work and that of her family’s charitable and political enterprises. Blumenthal has been subpoenaed by the U.S. House committee investigating the 2012 attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya, and Clinton’s handling of it….The committee is said to be interested in exploring Blumenthal’s connections to any entity that may have stood to benefit from Clinton’s decisions in Libya.”
[Blumenthal trail - Fox News: “Recently released emails detail then-Secretary of State Hilly Clinton’s interest in arming Libyan opposition groups using private security contractors before the fall of Muammar Qaddafi in 2011 – though at the time, the opposition was not formally recognized by the U.S. or United Nations, which prohibited arming without following strict guidelines and oversight.]
Clinton Cash, campaign edition - Clinton is making her first visit as a candidate to two states today starting off in Atlanta with a breakfast fundraiser at the home of Georgetown Capital equity firm founder A.J. Johnson. Then it’s off to the Miami area for a pair of big-donor encounters. Clinton will be hosted by trial lawyer and Clinton Foundation donor Ira Leesfield at his home in Coconut Grove, and in Coral Gables at the home of Nilda Milton. The give for all three events ranges from $2,700 to $50,000.  The Miami Herald reports the Florida Republican Party plans to hold press conference outside one of the stops to highlight the Democratic frontrunner’s lack of press conferences.

CHA-CHA-CHA-CHANGES ON SAME-SEX MARRIAGE  David Drucker looks at the evolution of the GOP and its presidential contenders on the issue of same-sex marriage: “Even as recently as four years ago, then-Texas Gov. Rick Perry, in the midst of his first run for president (he's running again in 2016), had to backtrack after initially citing the Tenth Amendment as his reasoning for being okay with the state of New York legalizing same-sex marriage. Perry, a traditional marriage purist, had angered social conservative activists. This time around, no less than Sen. Ted Cruz has said that his position is grounded in the Constitution.”
“…That, by the way, is the greatest victory of all of the proponents of same- sex marriage is they have absolutely made it unacceptable to have any discussion. And you know what politicians will do in time?  They’ll learn the lesson from watching what happened to Marco Rubio today and others and they'll say, ‘I’m just not going to talk about this.’” – Chris Stirewalt on “The Kelly File”

 NY Times- Liars and Cowards
(shoebat.com) - The New York Times’ hypocrisy regarding displays of “offensive” religious imagery runs unabated... An article yesterday about the sale of Chris Ofili’s controversial painting showing the Virgin Mary clotted with elephant dung against a porn-collage background, was accompanied by a photo of the offensive work. No fear of violent reprisal, but fear of “causing offense.” So why does Ofili’s dung-clotted Virgin Mary get a pass? As noted before, the Times isn’t afraid to run all religiously offensive images. The paper has in the past run approving pictures of Ofili’s painting, which caused controversy when it hung in the Brooklyn Museum in 1999. On Friday, ignoring its previous self-righteous comments on not offending “religious sensibilities” when it comes to Muhammad, the Times once again ran a photo of the Virgin Mary.       http://shoebat.com/2015/05/30/sharia-compliant-new-york-times-wont-publish-mohammed-cartoons-but-just-published-painting-of-virgin-mary-covered-in-elephant-poop-again/

Libyan prime minister threatens to retaliate if the EU use force
(Darren Boyle) - Libya’s prime minister has warned European Union navies against targeting people traffickers in his nation’s territorial water or face retribution... A multi-national force, including Britain, Ireland, Italy and Greece have deployed naval vessels in the Mediterranean as part of a humanitarian mission to rescue desperate migrants trying to travel into Europe. However, Khalifa al-Ghweil, who leads one of the rival governments accused the west of having a ‘colonial mentality’ which is ‘completely unacceptable in the modern world’.       https://themuslimissue.wordpress.com/2015/05/30/libyan-prime-minister-threatens-to-retaliate-if-the-eu-stops-isis-people-smugglers-sending-ships-to-italy/

Why new green fuel rules could damage car engines
(John Siciliano) - The new Renewable Fuel Standard, or RFS, sets annual blending requirements for 2014, 2015 and 2016, outlining a substantial uptick in the amount of low-carbon biofuels refiners must purchase... EPA's new proposal retroactively sets the total renewable fuel requirement at 15.93 billion gallons in 2014, and drives up the standard to 16.30 billion gallons in 2015, and 17.40 billion gallons in 2016. EPA is prepared to finalize the rules by November 30. Oil companies fear the amount of renewable fuel required in 2015 and 2016 could exceed the current E10 blend level, which means 10 percent of gasoline must be comprised of ethanol. The industry wants the E10 standard reduced further, and has warned that going beyond the current "blend wall" would lead to engine damage in cars.        http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/why-new-green-fuel-rules-could-damage-car-engines/article/2565241

Now the Government Wants to Ban Holding Your Breath
(Selwyn Duke) - If you want our freedoms restored, well, as they say, don’t hold your breath waiting — especially since holding your breath may soon be against the law, at least in a certain context... In an effort many would described as the nanny-state run amuck, there’s a movement afoot to ban “prolonged breath holding” in public pools. Reuters Barbara Goldbergreports: Goldberg tells us that New York City and Santa Barbara, California, have, along with perhaps some other U.S. cities, already outlawed the practice. And on the surface this may make sense to some if even aspiring Navy Seals can die engaging in it. But unlike with serious swimmers, the perils for society become greater when policy-makers’ analyses stay on the surface. Goldberg also reports that “in New York state [sic] alone, four people aged 17 to 22 and ‘known to be advanced to expert swimmers’" died in breath holding incidents from 1988 to 2011.”       http://www.thenewamerican.com/usnews/item/20969-now-the-government-wants-to-ban-holding-your-breath?utm_source=Newsletter&utm_campaign=b27de52877-The_Editors_Top_Picks_3_12_143_12_2014&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_8ca494f2d2-b27de52877-289778381

What Is nObama Hiding About Bergdahl? You’ve Got To See This!
(Robert Rich) ~ There’s no doubt that Barack nObama traded American deserter Bowe Bergdahl for five of the world’s most deadly terrorists for political reasons during his 2012 campaign... Although it wasn’t long before inquisitive minds were able to shoot holes in nObama’s false narrative on the matter, it appears there was something definitely worth hiding. We know just about all the facts — nObama negotiated with terrorists in an unprecedented trade, releasing five detainees for a single American deserter. Despite that Bergdahl openly walked off base in search of terrorists and denounced his citizenship, nObama still tried to play hero by bringing home a “captured” American.       http://linkis.com/madworldnews.com/7rJa4

Hilly Emails - Trey Gowdy Lays It Out
One of the most important videos of the decade. Trey Gowdy lays out what will likely become the end of the line for Hilly Clinton. This is her "checkmate" video... I don't personally believe it is about the Benghazi emails that she is scared. I think her emails could expose some serious shit with her foundation. This just my feeling. The more she tries to run from the scene of the crisis, the guiltier she appears. I would have loved to leave this video open to comments, but as you might have guessed, the liberals in the crowd are in full blown panic mode. They have been making the dumbest comments you can imagine and just generally can't get along with people who have the ability to think for themselves. So sadly, they will not be permitted to comment on this video.

US military pilots complain hands tied in ‘frustrating’ fight against ISIS
(Lucas Tomlinson) ~ U.S. military pilots carrying out the air war against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria are voicing growing discontent over what they say are heavy-handed rules of engagement hindering them from striking targets... They blame a bureaucracy that does not allow for quick decision-making. One Navy F-18 pilot who has flown missions against ISIS voiced his frustration to Fox News, saying: "There were times I had groups of ISIS fighters in my sights, but couldn't get clearance to engage.” He added, “They probably killed innocent people and spread evil because of my inability to kill them. It was frustrating."       http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2015/05/28/us-military-pilots-complain-hands-tied-in-frustrating-fight-against-isis/

Hizballah Deepens Its Involvement in Syria
(Jonathan Spyer) ~ The latest reports from the Qalamoun mountain range in western Syria suggest that Hizballah is pushing back the jihadis of Jabhat al-Nusra and Islamic State... The movement claims to have taken 300 square kilometers from the Sunni rebels. The broader picture for the Shia Islamists that dominate Lebanon, however, is less rosy. The Iran-led alliance of which Hizballah is a part is better organized and more effectively commanded than its Sunni rivals. Its ability to marshal its resources in a centralized and effective way is what has enabled it to preserve the Assad regime in Syria until now.       http://www.meforum.org/5271/hezbollah-lebanon-syria

Nancy Pulosi: ‘The Clintons Will Have To Answer For The Foundation’
(Al Weaver) - House Minority Leader Nancy Pulosi said Friday that Bill and Hilly Clinton will need to answer for the donations taken in by the Clinton Foundation... Pulosi told MSNBC’s Thomas Roberts that there’s “no question” the donation scandal “raises questions” that the former secretary of state will need to answer for. She made the remarks after Roberts asked her to respond to a New York Times story showing that former President Clinton appeared at a charity event, but only after they gave a $500,000 donation to the foundation.

Abortion vs. Capital Punishment
.
Burt_Header_M2.jpg
.
(burtprelutsky.com) - When liberals set out to prove that conservatives are hypocrites, they will generally point out that many of the same people who are most opposed to abortions turn around and support capital punishment.
.
In doing so, the liberals merely confirm they lack anything even faintly resembling a moral compass. After all, who but a leftist would ever equate the life of an innocent baby with that of a cold-blooded sadist? When comparing human lives, it helps if those on both sides are recognizably human. To suggest that some degenerate who has raped and murdered a child or eviscerated an entire family be allowed to live simply because he possesses fingerprints and human DNA seems fatuous at best, repugnant at worst.
.
But, then, on those occasions when liberals aren’t immoral, their tendency is to be amoral, seemingly unaware that there are principles and values without which we are no better than the beasts of the jungle.
.
Instead, what passes for morality on the Left tends to be an eagerness to take up for those they determine to be underdogs. So they side with rampaging black thugs, illegal aliens and even the Palestinians, having decided that their terrorist activities are merely the actions of freedom fighters opposing Israeli oppression.
.
What’s more, because leftists are as merciless as Islamic throat-cutters, they will never hesitate to lie if they feel it serves their purpose. For instance, in the aftermath of the Hobby Lobby case, they insisted that the company had refused to offer contraception to its employees. That was a patent falsehood, and what’s more they knew it. Hobby Lobby had simply refused on religious grounds to offer four of the 24 contraceptive methods currently available, because they were deemed not to prevent conception, but, instead, to cause abortions.
.
In the aftermath, all the Left talked about were the four exclusions, not the other 20. For my part, in a nation where sex education appears to begin in the second or third grade and where contraceptive meds and devices are readily available, I’d think abortions would be a thing of the past. The question, why, at this late date, a million abortions a year are still taking place should be the topic under discussion, not whether Christians should be deprived of their religious rights.
.
But, of course, liberals are never concerned with anyone else’s freedoms and liberties, but only their own. That is why they oppose even a 20-week deadline for abortions. So far as they’re concerned, women should be able to abort a baby even in the delivery room. If you think I exaggerate, Rep. Debbie Wasserman-Schultz, head of the DNC, refused to come up with a cutoff date after which women should ever be denied an abortion. When asked if curtailing abortions even after the seventh or eighth month of pregnancy might be appropriate, she simply kept insisting that it was entirely up to the woman.
.
Also, let us not forget that as a member of the Illinois state legislature, Barack nObama voted to allow the killing of babies who managed to survive botched abortions, meaning that even post-partum murders are okey-dokey with this crowd.
.
I suspect, based on the evidence, that a sizable number of those on the Left would favor aborting 17 and 18-year-olds if the mothers sensed conservative tendencies cropping up in their offspring.
.
The more I see and hear liberals, the more convinced I become that they are those monstrous creatures one finds in sci-fi movies who come here from another planet, possessing the ability to transform themselves into things closely resembling human beings, lacking only a conscience and a soul to make the masquerade complete.
.
♦ After writing about capital punishment recently, I heard from several people. Because of the nature of my readership, I didn’t hear from any of those saps who oppose the ultimate punishment for the ultimate crime. For the most part, the readers divided into two camps. On the one hand, there were those who proposed various ways to execute with the least pain possible, while others competed to come up with the most gruesome executions, some involving dungeons and ravenous rodents.
.
In rebuttal to one, who had recently been rendered unconscious while having his cataracts removed, and felt that a little more of whatever he received from the anesthetist would do the trick, no muss, no fuss, I readily acknowledged that he was more compassionate than I am. But I felt that his empathy was somewhat misplaced because it seemed to ignore the pain experienced by the victim and the irreplaceable loss to his or her loved ones.
.
I went on: “Frankly, providing sadistic killers a painless death is really low on my list of priorities. Unfortunately, liberals have done a great job of garnering influence over the legal system. In the old days, you could appeal a death sentence only if you came up with new evidence showing that the cops had perjured themselves, the prosecutor had withheld evidence beneficial to the defendant or, in those rarest of instances, when someone else confessed to the crime.
.
“But these days, the defense lawyers merely have to dig up a liberal judge who’ll grant them one stay of execution after another while the killer lives on and on, outliving his victim by 20 or 30 years, often hanging on until a liberal governor decides to commute his sentence.
.
“In the meantime, because of all the stalling tactics, a backlog builds up on Death Row, so that those opposed to capital punishment can argue that it would be barbaric to execute hundreds of individuals. What they invariably neglect to mention is that the backlog of sadists and serial killers only exists because these assorted shysters and sob sisters prevented the executions from taking place in a timely fashion.”
.
♦ One other source of constant annoyance to me is Pope Francis. From the very beginning of his papacy, I had the feeling that he hadn’t been elected by the Congress of Cardinals, but by the Comintern. He mouths the same leftwing platitudes as the Castros, Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren. But perhaps his most offensive act yet was his recent recognition of Palestine as an independent state, giving Hamas, the terrorist group governing the Palestinians, just the sort of legitimacy jihadists crave.
.
I am reminded that the late Abba Eban, Israel’s onetime ambassador to the United States, once said, after the Arabs had, as usual, stormed out of a peace conference, “The Arabs never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity.”
.
Eban, one of the few diplomats who has ever managed to give diplomacy a good name, also suggested that “History teaches us that men and nations behave wisely only after they’ve exhausted all other options.”
.
After Israel’s miraculous victory in 1967, when it was attacked simultaneously by Egypt, Jordan and Syria, in what became known as the Six Day War, Eban wryly commented: “I think that this is the first war in history that on the morrow the victors sued for peace and the vanquished called for unconditional surrender.”
.
Instead of consorting with the tawdry likes of Secretary of State hanoi John Kerry and the representatives of Islamic terrorist groups, I would advise Pope Francis to pay closer attention to the wise words of Eban, who, from his position as Ambassador to the U.N., noted: “If Algeria introduced a resolution declaring that the earth was flat and that Israel had flattened it, it would pass by a vote of 164 to 13, with 26 abstentions.”
.
Unfortunately, with nObama in the White House and Francis in the Vatican, the vote today would be 165 to 12.

Baltimore: From Charm City to Deadly City

Baltimore's 40th murder in May set a new record for homicides in one month.

Hello Baltimore 1000x1000

My friend wrote...

Lloyd

The American Legion National Convention is scheduled for late August through early September, 2015 in Baltimore City.

Sad to say, I have canceled my reservations as I do not think the Convention is worth the risk to my life as I was very much looking forward to the Convention. Many others of American Legion are canceling due to high risk of being shot and/or killed.

I would very much appreciate your thoughts as you grew up there. No doubt , is a terrible shame to see a great City, Baltimore, go down due to liberal Democrats being in charge for the past 4 decades

Keep the Faith, Brother”

My reply...

Hey Brother, You are wise for staying away from sin city (Baltimore). Baltimore police are reluctant to do their job for fear of being arrested. Clearly, the mayor is allowing the inmates to run the asylum. The only thing the vile local Democrat government cares about is protecting their liberal narrative. Baltimore's mayor considers lives and businesses acceptable collateral damage. It is shameful and evil. God bless, Lloyd”

My wife Mary said perhaps Baltimore will come to it's senses upon realizing the financial consequences (at least $20 million) of allowing the thugs to wreck havoc.  I said to her, you are mistaken oh wise and beautiful one. The liberal zealots running Baltimore do not give a rat's derriere about consequences financial or otherwise. All that matters is furthering their liberal socialist/progressive big government controlling everything and everyone agenda. If Leftists are nothing else, they are persistent, patient and unshakably focused on achieving their goals.

For crying out loud, the Baltimore Prosecutor Marilyn Mosby is running around acting like an anti-police pit bull, giving speeches in churches to rally the black community against the police.  Dear Lord what evil has overtaken my former home town? What has so emboldened Leftist Democrats to dismiss all pretense of fairness and legality, openly displaying their liberal bias and intentions?

Before I moved to Florida fifteen years ago, Baltimore was promoted as “Charm City”. I received a citation from former Mayor Kurt Schmoke for the song I wrote about my beloved city. A CD of my song “Hello Baltimore” was included in the city's Bicentennial time capsule.

Visiting Baltimore five years after I moved, a black Baltimore cop friend told me crime had gotten much worse. He said metal detectors were installed in public schools and almost every black nightclub. This does not support the Left's claim that cops are the problem.

My brother said his white girlfriend won tickets for a show at the famous Hippodrome theater. The riots made her afraid to venture to downtown Baltimore. My brother dropped her and a female friend off at the theater door and picked them up immediately after the show.

Folks, there is a pony hidden in the pile of excrement which is Baltimore politics. The dire consequences of full blown liberalism are exposed for all the world to see.

Here's a music video of my song “Hello Baltimore” illustrating my hometown then and now.

Democrat Wants to Require Insurance for Gun Owners

House bill would require gun owners to have liability insurance

http://thehill.com/regulation/243425-house-bill-would-require-gun-owners-to-carry-insurance

.

It’s a bill that will accomplish the goals of those who want to restrict the Second Amendment all in the name of “safety.” Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) introduced for the second time her Firearm Risk Protection Act, legislation that would require anyone buying a gun to have liability insurance. If a purchaser were found to be buying without insurance, they would be slapped with a $10,000 fine. First, such a bill would raise the cost of exercising a constitutional right, making it that much harder for the poor to defend themselves. Second, requiring insurance creates a larger paper trail for those who want to track the sale of firearms. “We require insurance to own a car, but no such requirement exists for guns,” Maloney said in a statement. “The results are clear: car fatalities have declined by 25 percent in the last decade, but gun fatalities continue to rise.” We’re not so sure insurance caused that reduction. If so, then let’s pile on the health insurance! Don’t want to get heart disease or cancer. Furthermore, this bill is not about preparing for a catastrophic event — say a citizen needs to cover legal expenses if he or she is sued for using a gun in self-defense. This bill is about burdening lawful gun ownership.

America has lost their moral compass

By: Juan Reynoso, WTP Activist  -  texusa2016@gmail.com

Americas must realize that self-scrutiny is not treason. Self-examination is not disloyalty.

The truth and knowledge diffused among the people are necessary for the preservation of our Democracy, rights, freedom and liberties.

Americans have lost their moral compass.  http://maplight.org/content/73373

Intelligence Contractors Give Millions to Lawmakers Overseeing Government Surveillance

Our US government is out of control, greed and power to control us and the world has transformed our country into the enemy of the world and of the American people. Everything they do is to gain control and oppress the American people and the world community.

Today America is divided into corrupt traitors and patriots that want to preserve our freedom and the traitors that sold their principles and values for a hand full of Dollars; like Judas that betray Jesus for thirty silver coins. The worse traitors are all the ones that work for the NSA, the CIA, The FBI and the US Department of Justice that turn against the American people. These agencies under the pretense of defending our country trashed our constitution, the rule of law and demise our freedom; they have become the biggest threats to our country and our Liberty.

Governor Palin on Facebook 05/30/15

"Yet another anti-freedom politician jumps in the race today for POTUS. As cool as he is with his rock ‘n roll persona, this typical liberal’s erroneous grasp of our Bill of Rights merely continues the strange and disastrous agenda of Barack Obama. Good to know he doesn’t have much chance of winning. The democrats have greased the skids for their chosen one, despite the media games that play the public with various "competing" campaigns used for gamey distractions.

With today’s more-of-the-same distract-sphere – with the politician sounding exactly like all the others – don’t you wonder if there are ANY good old fashioned Blue Dog democrats who can represent the left’s party in the 2016 race? I feel kind of bad for democrats who are as embarrassed about their party leaving them as some of us Republicans are about our own party when we hear the GOP talk a good game but dishonorably capitulate when given the majority power to stop Obama’s nonsense.

By now, most of those ol’ Reagan democrats have come to realize that it was the party of Lincoln and Reagan all these years fighting for and winning the abolishment of slavery, civil rights for all Americans, equal rights for women, free markets, individual liberty, constitutional protections, private sector job growth, and a sensible foreign policy rooted in peace through strength. For those who still identify as democrats, it’s quite easy to bid a deceptive party an overdue farewell. Just tell me what state you’re a resident of, and I’ll post links to your voter registration office. Click on it. There you can finally bust free of a party that’s long since abandoned you. I recommend then registering "independent," or the equivalent of, in your state. Your newfound sweet freedom will empower you!

Here’s just one reason to do it: abolishing your name from the liberal’s roll chips away at the democrat party’s foundation that actually supports un-American acts like this:

This report ran in an old news cycle, but it remains relevant until a constitutional conservative leads our exceptional nation; for as long as the far left retains power via their numbers, the extent that they are willing to go to trample our Bill of Rights only grows."

********************************************************************************************************************

These are, I believe, insightful comments (from C4P) on Governor Palin's post:

I noticed in her Facebook post that Governor Palin encouraged traditional and Reagan Democrats to leave the party, but to register as independent rather than join the GOP. Hmm... Could this be a hint as to her future plans?

I remember Mark Levin talking about being an inch away from leaving the GOP.

Considering recent events, isn't it time he walked over that last inch? It would be quite a firestorm if Sarah Palin and Levin both left the GOP at the same time. Right now the GOP is in such bad shape a move like that might be a good thing, especially if 2016 ends up Hillary vs. Jeb. After all, at that point, what difference would it make?

***************************************************************************************************

After reading Sarah Palin's post...I believe it's looking likely if she does enter...she'll enter the race as an Independent. In my mind's eye I zeroed in on Sarah Palin's use of the word "Independent" and I'm reading the tea leaves with that wording. If Sarah Palin enters the race...I doubt she'll run as a Republican. She's pretty much calling them out...although I suspect she could be hitting them a lot harder. Notice she didn't say anything about the TPP bill and the people who supported it...including the ones she endorsed to Congress.

Her silence on this matter suggests she's trying to figure out how to navigate that minefield given people like Sen Ted Cruz actually voted for it. It's going to be interesting to see if Sarah Palin acknowledges the Guardian's investigation into the "votes" that were bought for the bill's passage and mentioning the tally of those running for re-election in 2016 getting all that money for their "yes" votes. That's classic "crony capitalism" as defined by Sarah Palin herself as she described it in her speech in...(Iowa!) of all possible places.

Now, if Sarah Palin does run but as an Independent...she'll destroy the Republican party. They will howl in rage at "irrelevant" little Sarah Palin who dares to kick sand into their faces and ruin their party. (Just imagine Dana Perino's face on the Five if this happens!) I believe if Sarah Palin decides not to run...I think her game plan is to let the Republicans shoot themselves in the foot once again and let the air out of the Hindenberg and start over by 2020. If she takes this route...that's an awfully long calculated gamble in my opinion.

If Palin did run as an Independent is it all possible that there would be an electoral College path to victory in 2016? I explored this in an earlier post:

(Palin-ite) Third Party 2016: Viable Reality Or Pipe Dream?

Third Party 2016: Viable Reality Or Pipe Dream?

15 JANUARY 2015 @ 20:02

The 2014 mid-terms landslide with its Boehner re-election aftermath, had a similar expression of Tea Party/conservative disgust as did the 2012 landslide. Now, as then, voices have been raised calling for a conservative third party.

Leaving aside persons and personalities, if the question of the viability of a third party is to be considered outside of the emotion of the moment, disgust with this or that possible Establishment candidate, then the Electoral College and constitutional issues need to be examined.

Even with massive enthusiasm and huge grass roots funding behind such a movement, history shows that victory first time up would be unlikely (although a major economic dislocation could prove an exceptional catalyst). Teddy Roosevelt crushed the Republican establishment in 1912, but lost heavily to the Dem’s, La Follette had substantial enthusiasm at 19.24% of the popular vote but did poorly in the Electoral College, as did Perot 18.9% and George Wallace13.5%.

In 1856, the new Republican Party lost in their first outing, whilst performing credibly and, after the next election, became the major force in presidential politics for the next 56 years. Thus the Whigs, who displaced the Federalists, and the Republicans who replaced the Whigs, prove that a new party can, if there is a major social shift, not only do well but can become a dominant force.

Below are illustrations of how a new party could eclipse the GOP as it now stands and win in 2016, although 2020 in a straight two party race would seem more likely. The major question would be whether, if the new party did well but did not win, it could stay around for another run-unlike Roosevelt’s Progressive Party. Thus those who might consider a new party would have to also consider the massive commitment it would require.

The question is, would a third party run give it a realistic chance of winning the presidency in 2016?

The answer is, yes if the environment is right. If by November 2016 the economy is not better than now, or has turned down massively, and if Romney or Jeb Bush were the GOP’s candidate which caused  conservatives to bolt, then a three way vote split is quite possible.

This approximates the three party (Dem/Bull Moose/GOP) 1912 election. That election was prevented from being thrown into the House because sitting President Taft only carried two states, but split the vote with Roosevelt 23% to 27% denying Roosevelt enough electoral votes to stop Wilson having an outright win.

Whereas the scenario below, realistically for the situation over 100 years later, shows the GOP candidate winning enough electoral votes to ensure no candidate had a majority.

It would require a genuine conservative, like Palin, who is the only person with enough name recognition, support base and fundraising ability to have any chance, to head a mass movement third party run. Concomitantly, if there was a major economic downturn, and a split in the left was exacerbated to the point that the “Progressives” stayed home on election day, and the Tea Party turned out en-mass, then the map below (with the prospective third party states in beige) is a very plausible result.

In this scenario the Democratic candidate would not have the 270 electoral college votes needed for outright victory. Under the constitution, the GOP standard bearer, the Dem, and the third party candidate would be the candidates the House would decide from. (presuming no other candidate had any electoral college votes. If they did they would be eliminated from the balloting as only the top three go through for consideration)

Every state would have one vote based  on the result of each states party representation. Thus, for example New York’s one vote would go to the Dem, and Wyoming’s one vote would go to the new Conservative Party, or to the Republican. Given the Republican, in this scenario, would have no chance of winning, it would be presumed that the votes of the states that Republican had won would go to the Conservative. This, if after the first ballot, no candidate had a majority of states votes, and if the conservative was the second choice of general election voters as per the map below.

Given it would be unlikely that the GOP would lose control of the House and the state caucus delegations, thus, on the most recent analysis, the GOP would have a majority of the 50 states votes based on caucus outcomes when balloting.

This scenario played out before. In the election of 1824 Andrew Jackson finished first with more electoral votes than John Quincy Adams, William Crawford came third and Henry Clay fourth. With Clay eliminated he threw the support of his states to Adams, who was duly elected, based on the fact of his having the majority of states.

Interestingly the combined Adams/Clay popular vote was 43.9% to Jackson’s 41.3% so in effect electoral justice was done. Similarly in the map below the combined non-Dem electoral vote is 274-four above the minimum of 270, and thus electoral justice would also have been done 187 years later

The full constitutional scenario is set out below the map.”Undecided” means third party  and the map represents a 2016 scenario disregarding Obama as the Democratic candidate. In the ensuing map from 1912 it clearly shows how a sitting president can only carry two states as did Taft so the scenario is entirely plausible.

MJSheppard-2016-Electoral-Scenario-ThirdParty-xMJSheppard-1912-Electoral-Vote-x

Wilson received 41.7% of the vote and 435 Electoral College votes/Roosevelt 27.4 and 88/Taft 23.2% and 8. Thus Roosevelt/Taft had a popular vote majority (The Socialist Debs received 6%)

The constitution is very clear on the matter. Article 12 states, inter- alia:

“The person having the greatest Number of votes for President, shall be the President, if such number be a majority of the whole number of Electors appointed; and if no person have such majority, then from the persons having the highest numbers not exceeding three on the list of those voted for as President, the House of Representatives shall choose immediately, by ballot, the President. But in choosing the President, the votes shall be taken by states, the representation from each state having one vote; a quorum for this purpose shall consist of a member or members from two-thirds of the states, and a majority of all the states shall be necessary to a choice.”

Thus, if the no candidate with an electoral college majority scenario plays out, and presuming there are no other candidates who have won electoral votes, the House would meet to choose the next president by January 20th 2017, with the states having one vote each, whilst the Senate would meet to choose the Vice-President.

Based on the current composition of the House, and if voting went strictly on party lines, with no vote switching or abstentions in states with a close proportion of Republicans and Democrats, the Independent (or third party) candidate would be chosen on the first or second ballot.

The Electoral College map is of course set out for illustrative purposes only. Given a political, social and economic environment in such a state of flux that a major third party effort had arisen there is no way of knowing, at this point in time, how any particular state might go on election day. The point is however, that there is a scenario where none of the three candidates had an Electoral College majority and thus a new, third party candidate could win-if not in 2016 then in 2020 — once the movement had bedded down and the GOP had gone the way of the Whigs.

Clearly, all the possible ducks would have to be in a row, a major personality such as Governor Palin would have to lead the new party and, as always money would be the determinate of how far along such a movement could go. Even a Perot or a Bloomberg or a Trump with all their personal wealth in such an undertaking, could only get so far and the fundraising, without corporate or Establishment support would have to be unprecedented from the grass roots. However if the economic and political winds had shifted enough and corporate America saw the GOP had no chance, and perhaps some of the newly wealthy entrepreneur class were interested the finance might become available at that point.

The only guarantee that can be confidently stated is that if a major third party did get underway the windmill it tilted at, without the finance required, would be the GOP’s whose 2016 candidate would be doomed.Whether that is a bad result would be a matter for ones personal predilections, if it brought an internal Reaganite revolution for 2020 perhaps the third party concept might not prove to be quite so quixotic in the end.

EPA Expands Authority Over America's Waterways
More than a year after initially proposing it, and despite efforts by congressional Republicans to block such a move, the Environmental Protection Agency and U.S. Army Crops of Engineers, citing authority under the Clean Water Act, enacted a new rule that gives the federal government additional control over waterways. "The nObama administration issued a rule on Wednesday putting more small bodies of water and wetlands under federal protection to ensure clean drinking supplies," The Wall Street Journal reports, a power grab that "is estimated to put about 3% more waterways throughout the U.S. under new federal jurisdiction." nObama officials say they're simply maximizing existing legal authority. According to EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy, "This rule is about clarification, and in fact, we're adding exclusions for features like artificial lakes and ponds, water-filled depressions from constructions and grass swales." However, the Journal adds, "The rule seeks to require those kinds of permits for only those waterways that have physical features of flowing water."
And that's exactly the concern, explains Hot Air's Jazz Shaw: "The physical feature of flowing water? Depending on the conditions, the slope of the land and how much it rains on any given day, that could apply to pretty much anything." Moreover, "People who own property adjacent to or including swampy areas with poor drainage can (and already have) run afoul of the feds if they want to improve the drainage to dry out a section for construction or just a better looking lawn." As Mark Alexander wrote last month, Democrats, led by the powerful EPA, leverage environmental concerns to conceal their real agenda — the constriction of free enterprise. Their objective is to incrementally implement centralized economic control through regulatory requirements justified by ever-expanding "mandates." In implementing its newest rule — "one of nearly 10 that the EPA is slated to complete in coming months," the Journal notes — the agency is essentially saying, "Trust us." That's a dangerous thing to oblige when Liberty is at stake.  -The Patriot Post

Krauthammer: How Amnesty Smackdown Hurts Republicans
Fox News political analyst Charles Krauthammer offered his two cents on Tuesday's decision by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit to keep a temporary injunction in place blocking executive amnesty. According to Krauthammer, "For the Republicans, it's a problem." Here's why: "It's like the case going forward on nObamaCare and the thing about the exchanges and the subsidies. The problem is what happens if you win? Because if you win then the issue gets thrown back into the political arena." He argues, "If somehow this would be completely tossed out, then the question will be, 'what's your plan on immigration reform,' if anything. I think up until now, you can say, 'well it's in the hands of the courts.' But at a certain point it's not going to be and you're going to have to answer." Like or not, he's right. Immigration is a sour topic, but taking Barack nObama's diktats to court isn't enough. Lest they want to commit political suicide, conservatives will eventually have to rally around viable solutions to the illegal immigration problem and present them in an articulate manner.  -The Patriot Post

Santorum Announces Second Attempt at Presidency
Rick Santorum, the former senator from Pennsylvania who appealed to conservative evangelical voters during the 2012 presidential election, announced Wednesday he will once again seek the GOP nomination for the White House. Traditionally known for his value-voter stance on same-sex marriage and abortion, Santorum may try to broaden his appeal this time around. On May 21, Santorum told the Southern Republican Leadership Conference, "We are not going be successful unless we have a message that talks to the people who are struggling to rise." But while he came second place to Mitt Romney four years ago, he faces longer odds this time around. Statistics blog FiveThirtyEight says Santorum is running in a more crowded field this time around. This places him around 10th place in the popularity polls, right around the cutoff of the number of candidates Fox News and CNN says they will invite to preliminary presidential debates. In other words, Santorum does not only have to fight about issues, he's running an underdog fight that may be felled by the arbitrary rules created by a media company. More...  -The Patriot Post

Your Viewing Guide to Sunday's Showdown Over the Patriot Act
In the wake of Sept. 11, 2001, passing the Patriot Act seemed the inarguably patriotic thing to do. Nearly 14 years later, however, the lines of patriotism are less clearly drawn. Up for reauthorization, the act is facing staunch opposition — and creating strange bedfellows — in the wake of increasing concerns over government spying on the American people.
Last week, the House, by a vote of 338-88, passed not a reauthorization of the full Patriot Act but the equally patriotic sounding USA Freedom Act, which would continue the Patriot Act's surveillance powers but end specific practices including the NSA's data collection program (recently deemed illegal by a federal court), roving wiretaps and so-called lone-wolf surveillance tactics. Among other things, the USA Freedom Act would move the storage of telephone data from the federal government to telecommunications companies.
Between the House and president, however, the Senate stands. With 60 votes needed, the upper chamber came up short of passing the USA Freedom Act, producing just 57 votes before heading home for Memorial Day. At issue are competing views of liberty within the Senate.  -The Patriot Post

AIM Editor Talks About Stephanopoulos and Media Corruption
(aim.org) - AIM Editor Roger Aronoff was a guest last week on the Philadelphia, PA Conservative Commandos radio show with Rick Trader to talk about Aronoff’s recent column “Stephanopoulos Fiasco is Par for the Course.”... ABC’s host George Stephanopoulos interviewed Clinton Cash author Peter Schweizer on April 26, in a confrontational broadcast designed to cast the author as a partisan out to tar the reputation of the Clinton family. As Aronoff pointed out on Trader’s show, Stephanopoulos “proceeded to do an interrogation more than a question-and-answer where you’re really trying to learn information from the author and what he has in the book.” This is par for the course for the mainstream media, argues Aronoff. The incestuous relationships between media and the administration are so extensive that disclaimers are necessary to alert viewers. Yet, where would that end? It would be a constant refrain, if the media were to be diligent in announcing all of their conflicts of interest.       http://www.aim.org/aim-column/aim-editor-talks-about-stephanopoulos-and-media-corruption/?utm_source=AIM+-+Daily+Email&utm_campaign=email052915&utm_medium=email

Video Proves Mainstream Media Hates Conservative Free Speech
(fromtheright.com) - It really is remarkable that people who make their living based on the principle that we have free speech rights really don’t give a crap if they’re taken away from others... I’m talking of course, about the news media and how happily they jump to shut down free speech – when it’s used by conservatives of course. t’s getting kinda scary out there – I would have guessed that more people would have jumped in to defend our right to free speech once ISIS-inspired maggots started attacking Americans on our own soil. But liberals hate us so much, they’d rather shut up conservatives than oppose Islamists. Amazing isn’t it? http://fromtheright.com/latest/this-video-proves-mainstream-media-hates-conservative-free-speech/

One journalist is Sharyl Attkisson, a former CBS investigative reporter and author ofStonewalled, a 2014 book celebrated by conservatives that targets nObama administration "efforts to monitor journalists, intimidate and harass opposition groups, and spy on private citizens." Vice News investigative reporter Jason Leopold and Newsweek investigative reporter Leah McGrath Goodman will also testify, according to the committee.        http://www.nationaljournal.com/domesticpolicy/house-panel-meets-the-press-in-probe-of-foia-woes-20150528

Frustrated Pilots Speak Out Against nObama’s Fubar Air War
(nicedeb.wordpress.com) - Within the U.S. Air Force, there’s mounting frustration that the air campaign against ISIS in Syria and Iraq is moving far more slowly than expected... Instead of a fast-moving operation with hundreds of sorties flown in a single day—the kind favored by many in the air service—American warplanes are hitting small numbers of targets after a painstaking and cumbersome process. The single biggest problem, current and former Air Force officers say, is the so-called kill-chain of properly identifying and making sure the right target is being attacked. At the moment, that process is very complicated and painfully slow. “The kill-chain is very convoluted,” one combat-experienced Air Force A-10 Warthog pilot told The Daily Beast. “Nobody really has the control in the tactical environment.”       https://nicedeb.wordpress.com/2015/05/29/frustrated-pilots-speak-out-against-obamas-fubar-air-war-against-isis/

 Iraq No Longer Exists
(rickwells.us) - Former Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense underPresident Ronald Reagan, K T McFarland, has a much less rosy view of the situation in the war against ISIS” than that which is being served up by the nObama regime through its spokesperson Josh Earnest... She says that what we’re doing isn’t working and asks “How many times are you going to try before you find something new to try because it’s not succeeding?” McFarland points to a UN assessment of the alarming ISIS growth and strength, which she says is probably a conservative, “low ball” number. Bill Hemmer notes that Josh Earnest “did not say we’re winning.” Winning is a claim that the nObama operatives seldom expressed as being desirable outcome. McFarland asks how many times we need to refight this fight, or essentially, how long are we going to continue to kid ourselves? She notes how on two separate occasions, in Mosul and in Ramadi, the Iraqi forces should have easily been victorious, facing an outnumbered and outgunned opponent. In both instances they chose instead to turn tail and run away.        http://rickwells.us/k-t-mcfarland-iraq-no-longer-exists-that-might-be-enough-to-label-obamas-strategy-as-failed/

Pastor spills secret on kids summoning 'demons'   (wnd.com) - Young people around the world are trying to summon a demon in the latest trend sweeping social media – but a well-known pastor and Christian author believes those who participated in the “Charlie Charlie challenge” are fooling themselves about the realities of the spiritual realm... Pastor and bestselling Christian author Carl Gallups told WND: “The ‘Charlie Charlie’ trick is just that – a trick. In fact, it’s an old bar room parlor trick that originally involved putting two cigarettes on top of each other, only now it’s two pencils. It’s very easy to manipulate and make it look like something is happening by itself when actually it’s just someone breathing on the pencils, usually the person filming the ‘challenge.’ So these kids are not actually summoning demons or anything like that.” In the “Charlie Charlie Challenge,” participants align two pencils in the shape of a cross and ask, “Charlie, Charlie are you here?” Supposedly, the pencils then move to indicate the entity’s presence. On YouTube, videos of participants filming themselves doing the “challenge” are racking up tens of thousands of views.       http://www.wnd.com/2015/05/pastor-spills-secret-on-kids-summoning-demons/   Video:  http://www.wnd.com/2015/05/pastor-spills-secret-on-kids-summoning-demons/#ooid=w1djZkdTrqMN2a6q7aLHnejGxEx3Aku2

Judge Blasts Admin Lawyer In Congress' Separation Of Powers
(Jeff Dunetz) - Today was the first day in court for House of Representatives v. Burwell, et al., the often criticized lawsuit brought by the House against President nObama's overreached use of executive power... in changing elements of the nObamacare bill without a congressional vote. Specifically the actions being contested include authorizing Treasury payments to healthcare insurers without the funding being agreed by Congress and delaying implementation of the law's employer mandate, which required employers with more than 50 employees to provide healthcare coverage. The Administration of course began by trying to have the judge toss the lawsuit. They argued  the House lacks standing to sue, citing a section of U.S. law that means the House would have to prove it has been directly harmed.       http://yidwithlid.blogspot.com/2015/05/judge-blasts-administration-lawyer-in.html?utm_source=The+Lid+List&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=a2cb67d20c-RSS_EMAIL_CAMPAIGN&utm_term=0_597b72c01c-a2cb67d20c-291705165&goal=0_597b72c01c-a2cb67d20c-291705165

Shameless Liar: The Strange Dishonest World of David K. Shipler
(Daniel Greenfield) - David K. Shipler’s new book Freedom of Speech: Mightier Than the Sword isn’t about freedom of speech. It’s about varieties of speech that Shipler likes and doesn’t like... The book is less of the searching look at freedom of speech that it claims to be and more of a grab bag of dishonest political attacks on people and things that its author, a former New York Timesian notorious for his sympathy for terrorists, hates. Shipler suggests that Muslim terrorists don’t have the same freedom to advocate violence as Republicans. “What a right-wing politician can approvingly say about armed revolution cannot be spoken with impunity by a Muslim preacher,” he complains.       http://www.frontpagemag.com/2015/dgreenfield/shameless-liar-the-strange-dishonest-world-of-david-k-shipler/?utm_source=FrontPage+Magazine&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=942f636ffc-Mailchimp_FrontPageMag&utm_term=0_57e32c1dad-942f636ffc-156509103

Iran doubles down in the fight for the Middle East
(J. Matthew Mcinnis) - The Deputy Commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ (IRGC) Quds Force, Brigadier General Esmail Ghani, finally admitted on May 23 that Tehran has been training the Houthi rebels in Yemen... For those watching the situation closely, the Quds Force’s (and certainly Lebanese Hezbollah’s as well) direct role in the Yemeni conflict was expected, but Ghani’s public confirmation was not. We are unlikely to see another heroic publicity campaign with Quds Force Commander Major General Qassem Soleimani rallying and guiding Houthi forces—as we did with Iran’s Shia proxies in Iraq after the fall of Mosul to ISIS last year. Ghani’s announcement signals, though, a new willingness for Iran to deepen its military involvement in Yemen, even as Tehran voices support for negotiations. Nor was this Iran’s only move in the past two weeks to show how far it will—or must—go in its multi-front regional contest with ISIS, Saudi Arabia, Israel and the United States.       http://www.aei.org/publication/iran-doubles-down-in-the-fight-for-the-middle-east/?utm_source=paramount&utm_medium=email&utm_content=AEITODAY&utm_campaign=052915

(foxnews.com) - The U.S. has taken Cuba off its list of state sponsors of terrorism... Secretary of State hanoi John Kerry has signed an order removing Cuba from the U.S. terrorism blacklist as part of the process of normalizing relations between the Cold War foes. hanoi Kerry acted 45 days after the nObama administration informed Congress of its intent to do so. Lawmakers had that much time to weigh in and try to block the move, but did not do so.       http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2015/05/29/cuba-removed-from-us-terror-sponsor-list/

Barack “Climate Change” nObama
Alan Caruba
.
.
“Woe to the land that’s governed by a child.”
– Shakespeare, Richard III
.
(aim.org) - I have been wrestling for some kind of explanation why the President of the United States, Barack nObama, would continue to talk about climate change and urge the global transition from fossil fuels to wind, solar and bio-energy. I have concluded that he thinks everyone, not just Americans, are idiots.
.
We know he lies about everything, but these two topics are clearly near and dear to his heart.
.
My friend, Paul Driessen, is a policy analyst for the Committee for a Constructive Tomorrow, a free market think tank. Among the pundit class he’s ranked very high by his colleagues. Here’s what he has to say about climate change:
.
“Earth climate always has changed, is always changing, and always will change—but not from fossil-fuel use. Solar fluctuations, deep ocean circulation patterns, and other powerful natural forces have driven climate change and weather events throughout Earth’s history and will continue to do so.”
.
“President nObama’s hubris is breathtaking. He now thinks an army of regulators can control our planet’s temperature and climate by tweaking emissions of plant-fertilizing carbon dioxide, a mere 0.04% of the atmosphere.”
.
“America’s communities do not need to be protected from climate change. They need to be protected from the excesses of authoritarian presidents and bureaucrats.”
.
Driessen and I look at and listen to nObama and wonder if others too see and hear someone uttering some of the most absurd claims about the climate. Then we worry that this someone is the President of the United States with the power to turn his ignorance into national policy.
.
At this point we have suffered his initial failure to respond to the recession he inherited from the 2008 financial crisis. More than six years later the economy has barely moved toward a normal rate of growth. Then we were gifted with nObamaCare and the disruption of what was widely regarded as the best health system in the world. And, for good measure, he imposed Common Core on an already weakened educational system. It is being repealed and opposed in many states. For good measure, his foreign policy, if he has one, is widely regarded as a total failure.
.
How is it a former “community organizer” possesses a seemingly vast understanding of meteorology? Did they also teach that at the Harvard Law School? “Climate change,” said nObama, addressing a graduating class of the Coast Guard Academy, “constitutes a serious threat to global security, an immediate risk to our national security, and make no mistake; it will impact how our military defends our country.”
.
“Our military and our combatant commanders,” the President told the Academy graduates, “our services—including the Coast Guard—will need to factor climate change into plans and operations, because you need to be ready.” For what? For a rainstorm? For snow? Wind?
.
This is the same President who sees no threat to our national security from Iran whose leaders shout “Death to America” every day when they aren’t also shouting “Death to Israel.” He has zealously been pursuing a deal that would enable Iran, the leading supporter of terrorism, to have nuclear weapons. Meanwhile Islamic State (ISIS) is taking over more territory in northern Iraq and into Syria. nObama might as well be dropping bags of marshmallows on them.
.
He blamed climate change in the form of “severe droughts” for the rise of Islamism in the Middle East and Africa. Someone needs to tell nObama that there have always been severe droughts somewhere on the planet, and floods, and forest fires, and blizzards, and hurricanes. Even so, in the last eighteen years, there have actually been LESS of these natural events, along with the flatlining of the planet’s overall or average temperature—there has been no warming!
.
Not content to blame climate change for the rise of terrorism, the White House issued a report that was described as “a doomsday scenario of health, security, economic and political issues.” The thing about climate is that it measured incenturies, not years. As for the weather, while records are maintained, it is usually reported as today’s news with a forecast of the coming week.
.
So you shouldn’t be surprised that the report blamed “asthma attacks” on climate change!
.
Suffice to say there isn’t a glimmer of hard evidence to support anything the President is saying these days about climate change.
.
And this is the same President that wants the U.S. and the rest of the world to give up the use of fossil fuels—coal, oil and natural gas—to “stop climate change.”
.
IF nObama’s climate change idiocy is just a way to distract Americans from the real problems we have encountered thanks to his failure to address them, then it is purely cynical and political.
.
IF nObama really believes this stuff, he is unfit to be President.
.

FIORINA, KASICH CRACK TOP 10 IN NEW Q POLL
Marco Rubio skidded. Jeb Bush slid. Ben Carson zoomed. Mike Huckabee bounced. Scott Walker stayed steady. And that’s how you end up with a five-way tie for first place in the latest Quinnipiac University national poll on the GOP Sixteeners. Put another way: With five candidates evenly dividing half of the vote, there is no first place. While Rubio lost a third of his support and Bush continued to droop, losing three points for the second month in a row, all five can say with confidence that they will meet the polling criterion for the first GOP debate, hosted by Fox News and Facebook on Aug. 6 in Cleveland.
Aside from having filed as candidates – including required financial disclosures – and paid their candidate filing fees, a candidate must be among the top ten in the average of five methodologically sound national polls taken before the debate. Huckabee, Bush, Carson and Rubio may be sowing some volatility, but they can expect to be there with Walker on the big day.
But the real drama right now is about the bottom, not the top. Quinnipiac looks at the back half of the pack: “Rounding out the top 10 for televised debates are U.S. Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky at 7 percent, U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas at 6 percent, Donald Trump at 5 percent, New Jersey Gov. Christopher Christie at 4 percent and Carly Fiorina and Ohio Gov. John Kasich at 2 percent each.”  -Fox News

Artfully edited Walker ultrasound comments start media feeding frenzy -  WashEx: “Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker believes forced ultrasounds are ‘just a cool thing for women,’ a handful of online news sites reported Wednesday. Problem is: That's not exactly what the Republican governor and likely 2016 presidential candidate said. In an interview Friday with conservative radio host Dana Loesch, Walker defended a bill that he signed into law in 2013 mandating that women seeking abortions must also be provided with ultrasounds. … The Wisconsin governor, who is also the father to two sons, then marveled at the technology behind ultrasounds. ‘…I think about my sons are 19 and 20, you know we still have their first ultrasound picture. It’s just a cool thing out there,’ he said. … Newsrooms took it from there, editing together Walker’s comments so that they could claim in headlines that the Republican lawmaker said ‘forced ultrasounds’ are ‘cool.’”  -Fox News

Santorum makes immigration hard line a campaign centerpiece Byron Yorkwrites: “In his June 6, 2011 speech declaring his first run for the presidency, former Sen. Rick Santorum didn't mention immigration. On Wednesday, announcing a second race and seeking to win the support of displaced and discouraged American workers, Santorum laid out the toughest position on immigration of any candidate in the large 2016 GOP field. … As proof of his bona fides, Santorum pointed to high marks he received recently from the head of the restrictionist group Federation for American Immigration Reform. ‘Santorum is really the only one who is drilling down into the nuts and bolts and is looking into the job market and how immigration is really hurting American workers,’ Dan Stein, head of FAIR, said recently during a debate sponsored by the Washington Times. In his announcement, Santorum touted FAIR’s assessment.”  -Fox News

Megyn Kelly Hits Back at CNN Host
(newsinc.com) - Thursday morning, during a contentious interview with Pamela Geller, CNN’s Chris Cuomo attempted to draw an analogy between holding a Muhammad cartoon contest and saying the “n-word.”... As he put it, “the ‘n-word’ gets treated the same way that depictions of Muhammad does. We don’t say it because it’s offensive, not because legally I can’t.” This idea not only rubbed Geller the wrong way but also appeared to bother Fox News’ Megyn Kelly, who invited National Review editor Rich Lowry on her show tonight to discuss it. “His view is she’s not allowed to have a ‘Draw Muhammad’ contest because in his view, he has pronounced that is offensive,” Kelly said of Cuomo. “The question is offensive to whom, Chris?” she asked later. “There is a group that finds this offensive, and there are tens if not hundreds of millions who have no issue with it whatsoever.” Lowry, in turn, defended Geller’s right to run cartoons of Muhammad on Washington, D.C. buses, saying, “they may be offensive, but they’re not gratuitously offensive because she wants to include the line ‘support free speech.’ That is a political message and a political message that should be entirely unobjectionable.”

Rep Gohmert Reveals The Amnesty Secret Attack Hidden In NDAA
(rickwells.us) After applauding the decision by the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals to uphold the injunction against the nObama amnesty issued by Judge Andrew Hanen, Rep Louie Gohmert (R-TX) exposes some of the motivations, aside from the basic illegality on the part of the nObama regime... behind the hard-fought opposition to the insertion a Democrat amendment to the NDAA. That amendment would have permitted the military service of illegal aliens and would have quite possibly led to the overturning of Judge Hanen’s injunction by the Fifth Circuit. The nObama attorneys could certainly have made a compelling case, according to Rep Gohmert. He explains just how close we might have come to the flood gates being thrown open. Had the Democrat amendment remained in the bill, it could have been interpreted as an endorsement of the amnesty itself, which would have put the injunction in serious jeopardy.        http://rickwells.us/rep-louie-gohmert-reveals-the-amnesty-secret-attack-hidden-in-ndaa-a-stealth-bullet-dodged/

China Seizing Territory In South China Sea
(rickwells.us) - The Chinese program of taking by force disputed island territory in the South China Sea has reached a point where the United States felt compelled to issue a meaningless threat against the aggressive behavior of our financial and, in many ways, political masters... Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter issued a warning saying, “There should be no mistake about this, the United States will fly, sail and operate wherever international law allows.” Ambassador John Bolton is asked if he believes our response to China was sufficiently strong. He describes it as “woefully inadequate, and it has been for the last six years.” He says, “What China is trying to do here is take what are now international waters in theSouth China Sea and turn it into a Chinese lake. That’s important for two reasons. One, it would give them control over the oil and gas and other mineral assets under the water and second, every barrel of oil that goes to Japan, South Korea and Taiwan from the Middle East goes through the South China Sea. So it would give China hands around the throats of those economies.”        http://rickwells.us/china-seizing-territory-in-south-china-sea-american-response-is-woefully-inadequate-john-bolton/

IRS Official Subpoenaed After Agency Refused to Testimony
(sharylattkisson.com) - The House Oversight Committee today issued a subpoena to compel the testimony of a public IRS official. That after the IRS failed to voluntarily allow the official, the Director of Privacy, Government Liaison and Disclosure, to confirm she would appear at a hearing next week examining federal agencies’ failure to follow Freedom of Information Act law... In theory, the Freedom of Information Act entitles members of the public and the press to obtain access to public information from federal agencies within 20 business day. In reality, federal agencies routinely ignore, delay and obfuscate such requests with impunity. There’s some irony in the IRS’ refusal to voluntarily let its officer in charge of public disclosure testify to Congress. It might be humorous if it weren’t such a sad commentary on the state of government transparency today.        https://sharylattkisson.com/irs-official-subpoenaed-after-agency-refused-to-allow-voluntary-testimony/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+SharylAttkisson+%28Sharyl+Attkisson%29

Canary Mission Website Gives Hard Left a Taste of Its Own Medicine
(Raheem Kassam) - There's a website called "Canary Mission." I don't know who's behind it. Nor, it seems, does anyone else. But I think it's a great exercise in turning the tables on anti-Israel activists who have been 'shaming' people online for years... Canary Mission says its aim is to "expose individuals and groups that are anti-Freedom, anti-American and anti-Semitic in order to protect the public and our democratic values." And while I'm kind of sad that political activism in both the United States and the United Kingdom has sunk to this level, it isn't new, and thusly there shouldn't be the outcry over it that there has been online.       http://www.meforum.org/blog/2015/05/canary-mission

Big Brother FCC Plans New Internet Tax
(rickwells.us) - There is no pretext too petty or insignificant that a redistributive-minded control-freak politician won’t use it to impose their global Marxist agenda upon the American people... Free speech is a right protecting by the First Amendment. They’re unilaterally adding a right to “free stuff” to the Constitution too, including a phone and Internet access, so that they can further control every aspect of our lives. The nObama regime already taxes Americans to provide “sponge phones,” also known as “nObama Phones” to the lazy social parasites that feed upon us, but that was just the foot in the door. They’re just getting started.Federal Communications Commission Chairman Tom Wheeler  announced on Thursday that the program is about to get bigger, and naturally, much more expensive, to now include “free” internet for those who might grow weary of watching Oprah all day on the couch.       http://rickwells.us/big-brother-fcc-plans-new-internet-tax-expansion-to-control-what-happens-inside-our-homes/

nObama – ISIS Spreading, Gaining Support In Southeast Asia
(rickwells.us) - The failure of the nObama regime to put anything other than the pretense of efforts into the worldwide battle against Islamic terrorism and the forces of ISIS is showing in an increased presence of the terrorist organization in Southeast Asia... ISIS has been successful in expansion in that region to the degree that they now boast an entire terrorist military unit from Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore. That is not merely terrorist propaganda; those are the words of the Singapore Prime Minister, Lee Hsien Loong, who estimated their numbers to include more than 500 Indonesians and dozens of Malaysians, as well as a few Singaporeans. “This is why Singapore takes terrorism, and in particular ISIS, very seriously,” Lee said. “The threat is no longer over there, it is over here.”       http://rickwells.us/great-terrorist-strategy-obama-isis-spreading-gaining-support-in-southeast-asia/

DOJ Official: Slavery to Blame for Riots in Ferguson and Baltimore
(J. I’ve long maintained that the administration is nakedly seeking to federalize policing standards — but get rid of local police? Judge orders Clinton Foundation racketeering case to trial
(Sarah Westwood) - A Florida judge has set a trial date in the racketeering case against the Clinton Foundation and Bill and Hilly Clinton... Judge Donald Middlebrooks of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida ordered the racketeering, influenced and corrupt organizations, or RICO, case to head to trial January 20, 2016. The order, entered Friday and obtained by the Washington Examiner, came days after Larry Klayman of Freedom of Watch filed a lengthy civil complaint against the Clintons and their foundation in the same court. While the Clinton legal team could settle the case or enter a variety of motions in an effort to derail the lawsuit before the trial, the judge's swift decision means the matter could go to court before the Feb. 1 Iowa caucus and Feb. 9 New Hampshire primary.       http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/clinton-trial-date-set/article/2565272

The Slow Death of Common Core
Alan Caruba
.
Cartoon%2B-%2BCommon%2BCore%2BTesting.jpg
.
(factsnotfantasy.blogspot.com) - Think about the major policy undertakings of the nObama administration over the past six and a half years. It began with a “stimulus” that wasted trillions in the quest of generating jobs, but did little to nothing in achieving that goal. That was followed by nObamaCare which most agree has been a disaster for the nation’s healthcare sector and, finally, Common Core, a one-size-fits-all testing program intended, we were told, to improve learning standards in the nation’s schools. The only thing it has achieved is the opposition of parents, teachers unions, and entire states.
.

Heartland%2B%2B-%2BSchool%2BReform%2BNews.png
In the April edition of The Heartland Institute’s School Reform News, one could find headlines that included “Arizona House Votes to Repeal and Replace Common Core”, “Arizona House Votes to Repeal Common Core”, ”West Virginia House Passes Common Core Repeal Bill”, and “Ohio Bill Would Protect Students Opting Out of Common Core Tests.” In March, some 19 states had introduced legislation to either halt or replace Common Core. Do you see a trend here?
.
One trend of significance was noted in a commentary by Jason L. Riley in the May 6 edition of The Wall Street Journal. “The Soccer Mom Revolt Against Common Core” cited a national poll released by Fairleigh Dickinson University earlier this year that put “approval for the new standards at 17%, against 40% who disapproved and other 42% who were undecided. A breakdown by gender had Common Core support 22% for men and only 12% for women.”
.
Perhaps the greatest surprise among these numbers is that the nation’s largest teachers union, the National Educational Association, as Rob Bluey of the Heritage Foundation noted in February “is no longer a cheerleader for Common Core national education standards.” In a letter to the union’s three million members, its president, Dennis Van Roekel, took Common Core to task for its failure to even provide information for implementing it in their classrooms. The American Federation of Teachers had raised similar concerns nearly a year earlier!
.
Writing on September 2014, Joy Pullman, a Heartland Institute research fellow whose expertise is education held forth on the “Top Ten Things Parents Hate About Common Core.” Among them was “The senseless, infuriating math.” “If Common Core hadn’t deformed even the most elementary of our math abilities so that simple addition now takes dots, dashes, boxes, hashmarks, and foam cubes, plus an inordinate amount of time”, you are not going to get the right answer.
.
Parents in growing numbers have discovered, as Pullman notes, that “when they do go to their local school boards, often all they get are disgusted looks and a bored thumb-twiddling during their two-minute public comment allowance.” Pullman says, “The bottom line is, parents have no choice whether their kids will learn Common Core, no matter what school they put them in.” That, obviously, is changing as state after state pulls out of the Common Core program.
.
In a new book by Samuel Blumenfeld and Alex Newman, “Crimes of the Educators: How Utopians are Using Government Schools to Destroy America’s Children”, Blumenfeld points to “Growing levels of illiteracy, plunging international rankings, the decline of critical-thinking skills, mushrooming decadence, mass shootings, and companies that can’t find the skilled workers they need—these have become some of the atrocious hallmarks of U.S. public schools.”
.
“Common Core schemers are engaged in what can only be described as consumer fraud with monumental implications for education and the future of America.” The bottom line is that “the scheme was never field-tested before being foisted on America.”
.
There is no part of student’s education that Common Core does not impede or corrupt. In the area of science, Blumenfeld says “Instead of teaching children about science—real science—the standards will offer students a steady stream of controversial propaganda presented as unchallenged fact.” Regarding climate change “students will be required to learn that human activities are mostly to blame, even though this notion is disputed by countless scientists and a vast, growing body of actual scientific observational evidence.”
.
Closest to home are Common Core’s “National Sexuality Education Standards” aimed to begin the “sexualization of children in kindergarten” says Blumenfeld. “Is learning about ‘homosexual marriage’ before first grade in government schools really ‘age appropriate’ or necessary?” But it gets more radical “with graphic lessons promoting everything from masturbation and fornication to transgenderism and homosexuality.”
.
We shouldn’t be surprised at the backlash Common Core has received from both parents and teachers unions among others. Like the “stimulus” and nObamaCare, Common Core demonstrates a thorough lack of understanding of the values of individuality that have underwritten our nation’s free market economy, helped create a respected healthcare system, and which parents have expected the educational system to pass on to new generations.
.
Instead Common Core teaches collectivism—socialism—and degrades various elements of education from math to English to science.
.
It cannot be removed from our nation’s schools soon enough.

balt-1.jpg?width=253Baltimore is being taught an ugly lesson in reality and they had it coming.

Last weekend…Memorial Day weekend…Charm City recorded some 29 shootings with 9 of them fatal bringing the total number of homicides in Baltimore to 35…in the month of May alone. That is THE highest total monthly death toll since 1999.

So far this year, Baltimore has recorded 108 murders and scores more violent crimes.

According to Pete Welch, a Baltimore city councilman, “I’ve never seen anything like this. The shootings and killings are all over the city. I don’t think any part of the city is immune to this.”

Since the funeral of thug low-life Freddie Gray, who expired in police custody, Baltimore has recorded more than five dozen shootings and nearly half of the 108 homicides up to this date this year have taken place after the Freddie Gray funeral.

Again, according to councilman Pete Welch…

FAKE CAMPAIGNS DON’T DESERVE REAL CAMPAIGN  COVERAGE
If Hilly Clinton was running a real campaign, today would be a fascinating moment for the presumptive nominee. She’s in South Carolina where she needs to make amends with black voters who not only rejected her in 2008 but rebuked her and her husband for their presumptuous approach. On the question of whether Clinton can run and win a return to the White House as an unabashed liberal, enthusiasm of black voters is a paramount consideration. But alas, she is not running a real campaign. She is instead running something more akin to a legal defense or corporate PR after an oil spill.
It would be fascinating to know whether Bill Clinton was sorry for how he treated Rep. Jim Clyburn, D-S.C., in 2008 or if Bubba now felt sheepish about bragging about being called “America’s first black president.” It would also be fascinating to hear what Hilly thought about nObama’s record on issues like black poverty and joblessness or hear her defend criticism of police and stiff drug penalties in light of the rising violence in places like Baltimore. It would be fascinating to know… if there weren’t a flock of turkey vultures circling the actual, substantive issues relating to her character and fitness for office.
We are not likely to hear her on any of those issues in part because she will be inside her dome, interacting with party officials and a curated collection of minority women small business owners.” The topic is Clinton’s enthusiastic support for equal pay for women. If anyone asks about the Clintons and their 2008 comeuppance with black voters it will be a result of a catastrophic staff failure, not the actual give and take of campaigning among real people and real reporters. Clinton isn’t even likely to be asked about an on-topic awkwardness.
If Clinton does briefly speak to reporters, the kinds of answers and laughing brush-offs she offers are worse than useless. They are simply untethered scraps of lawyer-approved defenses or just outright evasions. Painful to watch. But those who suggest that Clinton is making a mistake in not opening up herself to the press and public suppose that she could somehow answer the questions before her. She can’t talk about how her erstwhile foundation employee was trying to profit from the Libya war she sold. She can’t explain what her husband’s unreported consulting firm was doing. She can’t explain the specifics of a Russian uranium deal she helped get approved that profited one of her patrons. She certainly can’t stand by her prior claims of why she established a secret server for emails or talk at much length about the process for reviewing those she ordered destroyed.
Any substantive interview would devolve into something that sounded way too much like one of her depositions than an actual chat. And while you can “plead the Fifth” in court, you can’t use it in an interview. And so that leaves Clinton doing the only thing she can: damage control in hopes that reporters will eventually tire of covering the story and start covering a non-existent horse race. But every good reporter knows that covering a phony campaign like a real one would be malpractice.
Until she gets past her corporate damage control campaign and takes her medicine, the only apt topic for Clinton coverage are the scandals and controversies from which she is hiding.  -Fox News

CARLY TROLLS HILLY SO HARD IN S.C.
Weekly Standard: “Democrat Hilly Clinton and Republican Carly Fiorina will both be campaigning in Columbia, South Carolina, on Wednesday, and the Fiorina campaign is making sure reporters know its candidate will be answering questions. Fiorina will be available to speak to the press, says deputy campaign manager Sarah Isgur Flores, shortly before speaking with Republican state legislators at the state capitol. The former Hewlett-Packard CEO will also travel to Spartanburg later in the day for another event. ‘Our events tomorrow are all open to the press,’ said Flores in an email to reporters. ‘And by open press, we mean we'll actually take questions. That's right. We've answered hundreds of questions from reporters because we believe the American people will not and should not elect a president that can't answer for her record, won't explain her positions or for whom the truth is whatever she can get away with.’”

 nOBAMA’S LEGACY ON THE DOCKET
An appellate court smacked down an administration bid to get President nObama’s executive amnesty program up and running while a suit from 26 states seeking to block the measure works its way through the courts. But that’s just one piece of the heavy docket on nObama’s legacy projects. In the final years of the nObama era, courts will be passing judgment on the president’s priorities. Issue by issue, WaPoexamines how nObama’s legacy is in legal jeopardy: “President nObama’s second-term agenda, it seems, is in the hands of the courts. Same-sex marriage. nObamacare. Climate change. And now immigration. And in many cases, there is significant doubt about whether his signature initiatives will stand legal scrutiny.” And why? Because he was unable or unwilling to work through Congress and opted to push the limits of executive power.

nObamacare: Republicans Can’t Win For Losing?
(sharylattkisson.com) - If the plaintiffs win the current Affordable Care Act (ACA) case before the U.S. Supreme Court, King v. Burwell, millions of Americans who bought health insurance through the federal marketplace or “exchange” will lose the federal tax dollars they’re getting to help buy their policies... That’s because the Court would have ruled the ACA only allowed subsidies to be given to those buying policies on state-established exchanges; not the federal website. It would theoretically be a victory for Republicans who oppose nObamacare: Americans would likely find the health care law less palatable if tax money isn’t helping pay for their mandatory policies. They would suddenly be exposed to the reality faced by those who aren’t getting subsidies: insurance may cost more, come with higher deductibles, and provide less coverage. But some Congressional Republicans are more worried about winning the Supreme Court case than losing it.       https://sharylattkisson.com/obamacare-republicans-cant-win-for-losing/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_med

 Hilly the Arms Dealer
(Matthew Vadum) - While presidential candidate Hilly Clinton was America’s top diplomat the Department of State that she oversaw approved $165 billion worth of commercial arms sales to 20 nations whose governments forked over millions of dollars to the now-embattled Clinton Foundation... According to an International Business Times report by David Sirota and Andrew Perez, “at least seven foreign governments that received State Department clearance for American arms did donate to the Clinton Foundation while Hilly Clinton was serving as secretary.” The article identified the seven nations as Algeria, Australia, Kuwait, Norway, Oman, Qatar, and Thailand. Mainstream media’s surprisingly probing coverage of the unfolding Clinton Foundation donations-for-favors scandal suggests that reporters have turned on the Clintons in the age of nObama.       http://www.frontpagemag.com/2015/matthew-vadum/hillary-the-arms-dealer/?utm_source=FrontPage+Magazine&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=a938a0a2b2-Mailchimp_FrontPageMag&utm_term=0_57e32c1dad-a938a0a2b2-156509103

Trial of Jason Rezaian raises red flags about proposed nuclear deal
(Michael Rubin) - Tuesday a revolutionary court in Tehran began trying Washington Post Iran correspondent Jason Rezaian on charges of espionage... Rezaian, who has already been held for more than ten months, is but one of four American hostages which the Islamic Republic holds. Former FBI agent Robert Levinson just passed his 3,000th day in Iranian prison. Monday, on Memorial Day, retired U.S. Marine Amir Hekmati spent his 1,367th day in an Iranian prison. He was picked up by security in Tehran while visiting his grandmother. His visit was not careless; he had secured permission from the Iranian Interest Section in Washington, D.C., before making his trip. The fourth hostage is Saeed Abedini, an Iranian-American pastor from Idaho whom Iranian authorities arrested in 2012 while he, too, was visiting family.        http://www.aei.org/publication/trial-of-jason-rezaian-raises-red-flags-about-proposed-nuclear-deal/?utm_source=paramount&utm_medium=email&utm_content=AEITODAY&utm_campaign=052715

nObama is Putting Our Nuclear Navy at Risk
(redstate.com) - The search for the next Chief of Naval Operations has not drawn much interest from the media, but there’s good reason it should... By nominating Admiral John Richardson, the current head of the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program, President nObama is jeopardizing a tradition of excellence stretching back since America first developed nuclear submarines. John Lehman, who served as President Reagan’s Secretary of the Navy for six years, does an excellent job explaining this in hisWall Street Journal editorial that ran this past Sunday. First, he explains the historical reasons behind our nuclear Navy’s excellence:       http://www.redstate.com/2015/05/26/obama-putting-nuclear-navy-risk/

 Fundamental Transformation of the Military
(S. Noble) - Ostensibly, to accommodate Muslims and other religious groups streaming across our borders legally and illegally, Barack nObama has altered military guidelines to allow for skullcaps, turbans, facial hair, long, uncleansed head hair, piercings, religious body art, and so on while they are on military duty... Muslim headscarves will probably also be permitted. It isn’t a blanket approval and will be approved on a case-by-case basis but it’s basically the open door. There is a different standard for American Christians. Our military in Afghanistan have to abide by Ramadan diets and they had to take the steeple off their church and remove the windows with crosses. Military personnel can wear crosses but only if they are hidden. Christmas trees at Christmas time are frowned upon or banned. nObama is a jerk.

Clinton Foundation hit with racketeering lawsuit
(Sarah Westwood) - Bill and Hilly Clinton and the Clinton Foundation have been hit with a racketeering lawsuit in Florida court... The lawsuit, filed by Larry Klayman of Freedom Watch, includes a legal request to have the Florida judge seize the private server on which Hilly Clinton and her aides hosted their emails while she served as secretary of state. Klayman has filed dozens of lawsuits against the Clintons and other prominent politicians. The racketeering, influenced and corrupt organizations, or RICO, case alleges the former first couple and their family philanthropy traded political favors for donations or generous speaking fees for Bill Clinton while his wife was the nation's chief diplomat.       http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/clinton-foundation-hit-with-racketeering-lawsuit/article/2565069?utm_campaign=Fox%20News&utm_source=foxnews.com&utm_medium=feed

Emails: Clinton Talking About Arming Libyan opposition leaders
(nicedeb.wordpress.com) - The hits keep on coming for Hilly Clinton and her amazing, technicolor emails.  The latest batch released by the State have Hilly discussing the idea of sending “private security experts” to arm Libyan opposition leaders... Moreover, in heavily redacted testimony on November 15, 2012,  CIA Director Mike Morell and Director of National Intelligence James Clapper confirmed that the US intelligence community was aware that weapons were moving from Libya to Syria. Hilly Clinton, of course feigned shock and surprise during a Senate hearing in January of 2013, when queried by Rand Paul about the transfer of weapons out of Libya to Syria.       https://nicedeb.wordpress.com/2015/05/27/video-latest-emails-show-clinton-talking-about-arming-libyan-opposition-leaders/

WTO Ruling Blasts U.S. Sovereignty; TPP Threatens More of Same
(William F. Jasper) - As the World Trade Organization delivers another blow against U.S. sovereignty, President nObama’s Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) is poised to add more international judicial attacks against American liberty and independence... The May 18 ruling by a WTO appellate tribunal declaring a U.S. federal law illegal should have caused giant shock waves across America and should have sunk any hopes of congressional passage of the TPP, which, twinned with the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP), forms the centerpiece of the nObamaTrade globalist agenda. Both the TPP and the TTIP would create international courts that could (and would) override American federal, state, and local laws, as well as federal and state court decisions, and even federal and state constitutions, as The New American has reported previously.       http://www.thenewamerican.com/usnews/constitution/item/20954-wto-ruling-blasts-u-s-sovereignty-tpp-threatens-more-of-same?utm_source=Newsletter&utm_campaign=03fc465888-The_Editors_Top_Picks_3_12_143_12_2014&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_8ca494f2d2-03fc465888-289778381

You Want Hypotheticals? Here's One
Charles Krauthammer
.
(freedomsback.com) - Ramadi falls. The Iraqi army flees. The great 60-nation anti-Islamic State coalition so grandly proclaimed by the nObama administration is nowhere to be seen. Instead, it’s the defense minister of Iran who flies into Baghdad, an unsubtle demonstration of who’s in charge — while the U.S. air campaign proves futile and America’s alleged strategy for combating the Islamic State is in free fall.
.
It gets worse. The Gulf States’ top leaders, betrayed and bitter, ostentatiously boycott President nObama’s failed Camp David summit. “We were America’s best friend in the Arab world for 50 years,” laments Saudi Arabia’s former intelligence chief.
.
Note: “were,” not “are.”
.
We are scraping bottom. Following six years of President nObama’s steady and determined withdrawal from the Middle East, America’s standing in the region has collapsed. And yet the question incessantly asked of the various presidential candidates is not about that. It’s a retrospective hypothetical: Would you have invaded Iraq in 2003 if you had known then what we know now?
.
First, the question Is not just a hypothetical, but an inherently impossible hypothetical. It contradicts itself. Had we known there were no weapons of mass destruction, the very question would not have arisen. The premise of the war — the basis for going to the U.N., to the Congress and, indeed, to the nation — was Iraq’s possession of WMD in violation of the central condition for the cease-fire that ended the first Gulf War. No WMD, no hypothetical to answer in the first place.
.
Second, the “if you knew then” question implicitly locates the origin and cause of the current disasters in 2003. As if the fall of Ramadi was predetermined then, as if the author of the current regional collapse is George W. Bush.
.
This is nonsense. The fact is that by the end of Bush’s tenure, the war had been won. You can argue that the price of that victory was too high. Fine. We can debate that until the end of time. But what is not debatable is that it was a victory. Bush bequeathed to nObama a success. By whose measure? By nObama’s. As he told the troops at Fort Bragg on Dec. 14, 2011, “We are leaving behind a sovereign, stable, and self-reliant Iraq, with a representative government that was elected by its people.” This was, said the president, a “moment of success.”
.
Which nObama proceeded to fully squander. With the 2012 election approaching, he chose to liquidate our military presence in Iraq. We didn’t just withdraw our forces. We abandoned, destroyed or turned over our equipment, stores, installations and bases. We surrendered our most valuable strategic assets, such as control of Iraqi airspace, soon to become the indispensable conduit for Iran to supply and sustain the Assad regime in Syria and cement its influence all the way to the Mediterranean. And, most relevant to the fall of Ramadi, we abandoned the vast intelligence network we had so painstakingly constructed in Anbar province, without which our current patchwork operations there are largely blind and correspondingly feeble.
.
The current collapse was not predetermined in 2003 but in 2011. Isn’t that what should be asked of Hilly Clinton? We know you think the invasion of 2003 was a mistake. But what about the abandonment of 2011? Was that not a mistake?
.
Mme. Secretary: When you arrived at State, al-Qaeda in Iraq had been crushed and expelled from Anbar. The Iraqi government had from Basra to Sadr City fought and defeated the radical, Iranian-proxy Shiite militias. Yet today these militias are back, once again dominating Baghdad. On your watch, we gave up our position as the dominant influence over a “sovereign, stable, and self-reliant Iraq” — forfeiting that position gratuitously to Iran. Was that not a mistake? And where were you when it was made?
.
Iraq is now a battlefield between the Sunni jihadists of the Islamic State and the Shiite jihadists of Iran’s Islamic Republic. There is no viable center. We abandoned it. The nObama administration’s unilateral pullout created a vacuum for the entry of the worst of the worst.
.
And the damage was self-inflicted. The current situation in Iraq, says David Petraeus, “is tragic foremost because it didn’t have to turn out this way. The hard-earned progress of the surge was sustained for over three years.”
.
Do the math. That’s 2009 through 2011, the first three nObama years. And then came the unraveling. When? The last U.S. troops left Iraq on Dec. 18, 2011.
.
Want to do retrospective hypotheticals? Start there.

OBama Knew He Was Trading Taliban Terrorists For Traitor

Just as President Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton knew the night of the Benghazi terrorist attack on September 11, 2012, that the attack on our diplomatic mission there was a preplanned terrorist attack, it has now become known that President Obama knew in real time that Bowe Bergdahl in fact was a deserter who abandoned his post in the Afghanistan war zone.

Bergdahl walked away from his comrades and his military responsibilities in June 2009 after he finished his guard shift at an outpost in Southeastern Afghanistan’s Paktika Province. And his fellow soldiers knew at the time Bowe Bergdahl was a deserter

Carl Gallups in WND exclusive ...

THE FOLLOWING is an excerpt of a WND article (link to entire article follows), in which Carl Gallups was interviewed. The bulk of the excerpts include Carl's comments in that article.

===========================

Government schools are warring on Christianity and real education, warns an education expert and one of America’s most influential Christian authors.

Pastor Carl Gallups and educator and author Alex Newman charge there is a deliberate and unified agenda to dumb down U.S. school children and remove Christianity from schools and public life. And both of them place most of the blame at the feet of John Dewey, the godfather of America’s progressive education system.

Gallups, also a talk-show host and author, also pins the blame squarely on Dewey, whom he calls the founder of the modern American educational system. The author of “Final Warning: Understanding the Trumpet Days of Revelation” told WND, “It’s well documented Dewey was a socialist. He plotted a deliberate strategy to dumb down the American public.”

The key to this effort, observed Gallups, was removing God and the study of Scripture from the classroom.

“The early school system was predicted on the belief that literacy was very important, not just to understand ideas but also so that people could read, interpret, and apply the Word of God,” he said. “Dewey and his cadre that agreed with him set out to destroy that.”

Gallups charges students who can no longer read Scripture and critically analyze complicated ideas are transformed from active citizens into consumerist drones.

“We’ve raised up generations of these children who believe they are nothing but souped-up gorillas who think life is an accident, who can’t read well, who don’t possess deductive reasoning, and who can’t think critically. There is a massive, deliberate dumbing down because our public education system was built with the agenda of creating worker bees, not citizens,” he said.

“We’ve raised up generations that don’t even read the Constitution. They don’t read the Word of God. They don’t understand how to interpret. And the worst part is, all of this is being done on purpose.”

Gallups urges Christians to resist federal control over education and stay engaged in the political process. Most importantly, he says, Christians need to put their faith first, especially when it comes to education.

“On a policy level, the crack cocaine which corrupts these local school districts is the federal money which tempts schools into abandoning their agenda and following the federal government. And that leads to further problems like Common Core,” he said.

“Christians have to stay involved with this. Jesus called us to be the salt and the light. But on a larger level, as with all these problems, our nation has to do some real soul searching, a heart check, a gut check.”

Gallups concluded, “We are living in prophetic times. And we need to turn back to God.”

Secrecy Surrounds Dennis Hastert’s Indictment

The Department of Justice unveiled an indictment against former House Speaker Dennis Hastert Thursday, accusing him of lying to the FBI and withdrawing cash in such a way as to hide the fact he was paying someone “$3.5 million in order to compensate for and conceal his prior misconduct.” It’s stunning enough that federal prosecutors brought charges against a politician of Hastert’s caliber. But the question of the hour is why he was so willing to pay someone $3.5 million. Before entering politics, Hastert taught high school history and coached wrestling in Yorkville, Illinois. Someone in the U.S. attorney’s office apparently believes paying a bribe is a greater crime than Hastert’s misconduct. So they covered up the information because it’s embarrassing to the former politician. He was once one of the most powerful politicians in the country and we are denied the ability to know whether this affected his leadership. More…

Surprise! First Quarter GDP in the Tank

A month ago, the government pegged GDP growth at a tentative 0.2% for the first quarter of 2015. However, as we noted at the time, revisions knocked last year’s first quarter GDP down by a staggering two percentage points — from 0.1% to -2.1% — meaning the economy actuallycontracted to start off 2014. That inevitably raised the question: Is a repeat in the offing? We now know the answer to that question, and it’s a resounding yes. Today, Commerce Department revisions showed first quarter GDP was lower than initially reported. Instead of 0.2% growth — an already sluggish number — January-March GDP now stands at -0.7%. The Wall Street Journal reports, “The latest downgrade came after new data showed a wider trade deficit and a slower pace of restocking by firms than earlier estimates, damping demand at factories and service providers. Those developments added to an already bleak picture of weak consumer spending and a downturn in business investment.” And according to Reuters, “With growth estimates so far for the second quarter around 2 percent, the economy appears poised for its worst first-half performance since 2011.” A myriad of rehashed excuses are already flooding in — from winter weather woes to flawed government methods to a mere hiccup — but it’s not like the economy ever gained much footing under the Obama recovery to begin with.

Los Angeles Labor Leaders Want Minimum Wage Exemption

Oh the irony. Fourteen Los Angeles council members recently voted to incrementally raise the city’s minimum wage to $15 an hour. Considering a whopping 50% of the city’s workforce makes minimum wage, the new law is bound to have significant ramifications — which may explain this oddity from the Los Angeles Times: “Labor leaders, who were among the strongest supporters of the citywide minimum wage increase approved last week by the Los Angeles City Council, are advocating last-minute changes to the law that could create an exemption for companies with unionized workforces.” Rusty Hocks with the Federation of Labor defended the proposed exemption by opining, “With a collective bargaining agreement, a business owner and the employees negotiate an agreement that works for them both. The agreement allows each party to prioritize what is important to them.” Yet, as the Times notes, “For much of the past eight months, labor activists have argued against special considerations for business owners, such as restaurateurs, who said they would have trouble complying with the mandated pay increase.” In other words, labor leaders want the flexibility to negotiate a mutually fair hourly wage — one that may very well fall below $15 — while forcing non-unionized businesses to comply with an admittedly harmful law. The Left, it seems, doesn’t want to raise the minimum wage so much as coerce businesses into joining a union, which would then translate into political capital.

FEATURED RIGHT ANALYSIS

The Debate Over the Death Penalty Has Just Begun

By Lewis Morris

2015-05-29-2df197af_large.jpg

Nebraska lawmakers voted Wednesday to make that state the 19th to ban the death penalty. Republican Governor Pete Ricketts vetoed earlier in the week the bill that sought to repeal the state’s death penalty statute. According to Nebraska law, it takes 30 of 49 senators in the unicameral legislature to override a gubernatorial veto. And 30 votes are exactly what death penalty opponents got. The original bill was passed last week and sent to Ricketts with 32 votes.

Ricketts stated in his veto of the original legislation, “Repealing the death penalty sends the wrong message to Nebraskans who overwhelmingly support capital punishment and look to government to strengthen public safety, not weaken it.”

The governor burned phone lines and called in favors in an effort to sustain his veto, but he was ultimately unable to do so. Still, with a thin majority supporting the original ban, and the thinnest of majorities overriding Ricketts' veto, it is almost guaranteed that this issue will come up again next term. The governor vowed, “While the legislature has lost touch with the citizens of Nebraska, I will continue to stand with Nebraskans and law enforcement on this important issue.”

Nebraska’s rejection of the death penalty is certainly being heralded in liberal circles as a victory. Advocates for the rights of convicted criminals — often acting without any regard for the rights of victims and their families — have been marching forward to make America a death penalty-free country for decades. And they have been experiencing some success lately.

Of the states without the death penalty, a third have banned it after 2007. Many of those actions have been motivated by concerns that capital punishment is cruel and unusual, grossly misapplied across various cases, and inherently racist. (This last reason is patently false. White defendants make up 55% of all executions since 1976, with blacks and Latinos comprising 34% and 8%, respectively. Seventy-five percent of the victims have been white, with 15% black and close to 7% Latino.)

Just the same, Nebraska’s case is unique. It is the most conservative state to ban the death penalty, and the reasons that motivated lawmakers to support the ban are varied.

State Sen. Mark Kolterman, a self-professed conservative, reasoned that support for the death penalty ran afoul of his commitment to protecting life. He also expressed fiscal concerns: “The state has spent approximately $100 million on death penalty related cases since 1976, but has only executed three people.”

The fiscal argument rang true for a number of senators who supported the ban, but the lawmakers who wanted to keep the punishment in place reasoned that Nebraska has executed few criminals under the statute. Ricketts wrote in the Omaha World-Herald, “In Nebraska, there are only 10 inmates on death row. Unlike California or Texas, which have hundreds on death row, we use the death penalty judiciously and prudently. Retaining the death penalty is not only important to the integrity of criminal prosecutions but also vitally important to good prison management and protecting our prison officials.”

A majority of Americans support the death penalty, although that margin has been declining over time. As might be expected, Republicans overwhelmingly support it, while a majority of Democrats do not.

Liberals should not be heartened by Nebraska’s sudden turn as a conservative state. The reasons for voting against the bill are practical in scope — consider the fiscal arguments. This is something Democrats are not known for. The final chapter in Nebraska’s death penalty saga remains unwritten despite this latest vote. Like many states across the country, the battle in Nebraska will continue to rage over whether capital punishment is just or cruel.

Recent advances in DNA research have exonerated a number of people wrongly accused of crimes that would have led to their execution, casting a dark shadow over the judicial system and its application of the death penalty. Additionally, there is the argument over method, with many now claiming that lethal injection is a cruel form of execution. Some states such as Utah, Tennessee and Oklahoma have looked into alternative methods.

Nebraska’s ban of the death penalty is not the beginning of the end of capital punishment in the United States, nor is it a last gasp for the movement to end it. It is, more appropriately, another salvo in an ongoing battle in which both sides air their grievances and continue their work.

OPINION IN BRIEF

Mona Charen: “Iran’s leaders are infected by a disease of the mind that prevents them from perceiving the world accurately. Their anti-Semitism is Nazi in intensity. They believe, as Hitler did, in a worldwide Jewish conspiracy that is responsible for wars, sectarian conflict among Muslims (!), disease and oppression. The regime hosts Holocaust denial conferences. They ceaselessly refer to Israel and Jews as ‘cancers’ or ‘rabid dogs.’ What do you do to cancers and rabid dogs? You kill them. … It’s profoundly worrying that Obama can shrug off the abundant evidence that the Iranian regime is in the grip of dangerous illusions about Jewish power and Jewish evil, and casually compare it to the kind of anti-Semitism found in modern-day Europe and America. It’s also morally offensive. The mullahs' anti-Semitism, along with their threats, should be enough to cause Obama, or any decent person, to recoil in disgust. Instead, he has made it the cause of his second term to reach a rapprochement with Iran. He has invited the regime to take the ‘path’ he’s offering to become "a very successful regional power. …Obama’s morality is always in service of his politics, not the other way around.”

SHORT CUTS

Insight: “We do not consider an individual disciplined when he has been rendered as artificially silent as a mute and as immovable as a paralytic. He is an individual annihilated, not disciplined.” —Italian physician and educator Maria Montessori (1870-1952)

The BIG Lie, Part I: “At minimum, the recent downpours in Texas probably offer a glimpse of what certain parts of the U.S. can look forward to in the coming decades. As the planet continues to get hotter, in large part due to human activity, warmer air in the atmosphere will hold more moisture. This is expected to alter weather patterns and lead to more frequent and more intense instances of extreme precipitation.” —The Huffington Post’s James Gerken (Ironic, considering most of the state was in the midst of a severe multi-year drought.)

The BIG Lie, Part II: “The best climate scientists in the world are telling us that extreme weather events like hurricanes are likely to become more powerful. When you combine stronger storms with rising seas, that’s a recipe for more devastating floods. Climate change didn’t cause Hurricane Sandy, but it might have made it stronger.” —Barack Obama (How then do we explain the Great Colonial Hurricane of 1635 — nearly 380 years ago — that was considerably stronger than Sandy? Or any number of similarly strong pre-21st century storms?)

Demo-gogues: “It is a liberating feeling in the sense that the amount of time I have left, it concentrates the mind, and I think a lot of folks have been surprised at the degree to which we are moving and pushing and trying whatever we can to advance the goals of making sure that every American in this country and every child in this country, if they’re willing to work hard, can get ahead, and that opportunity and prosperity is broad-based.” —Barack Obama, a.k.a. The Food Stamp President

“Muhammad Cartoon Ad Blocked From D.C. Buses and Train Stations,” US News, May 28, 2015

Transit board eliminates issue ads entirely, avoiding display of cartoon seen as offensive to Muslims.

The mass transit authority that oversees commuter buses and trains in the nation’s capital is banning issue-oriented ads for the remainder of the year after receiving an ad proposal featuring a cartoon of Muhammad, Islam’s central figure.

The cartoon is a sketch by artist Bosch Fawstin of a turban-wearing, sword-wielding man saying “You can’t draw...

Assassin’s Veto: Washington Transit Authority Shuts Down Free Speech, Suspends All Issue-Related Ads

WMATA has submitted to the assassin’s veto.

Following the cowardly policy change for the New York MTA, the Washington MTA has suspended all issue-oriented ads through the end of year after we submitted our free speech ad.

Oh, the irony.

This is an end run around the First Amendment.

These cowards may claim that they are making people safer, but I submit to you the opposite. They are making it far more dangerous for Americans everywhere. Rewarding terror with submission is defeat. Absolute and complete defeat.

More demands, more violence will certainly follow. The message is that terror works.

This is sharia in America.

The only upside is the antisemitic groups will not be able to run their blood libels.

Fire Jihad: Muslim Convert Arrested for arson in huge LA fire

The LA Times has reported that a 56-year-old man has been arrested for arson in a fire that destroyed about $80 million of apartment buildings under construction and a city-owned building. They give his name as Timothy Roston – but his current name is Daud Abdulwali. Of course, the LA Times didn’t mention this. (thanks to Chris and Diane).

Washington Post: Muhammad on the Metro? Question and Answer with Pamela Geller

The good thing about the historically bad coverage the Washington Post gives to this subject matter is the interview they did ran unedited.

Kudos to Cavna.

“Muhammad on the Metro? AFDI’s Geller on her plan for cartoon WMATA ads. [Q+A],” By Michael Cavna, Washington Post, May 28, 2015;

THREE YEARS after American Freedom Defense Initiative founder Pamela Geller bought “Support Israel. Defeat Jihad” ads that could be prominently seen on Washington-area Metro trains, she is again seeking D.C. transit commercial space for her signage. This time, through, Geller plans to depict Muhammad.

And not just any image of the Islamic prophet, but the cartoon by artist Bosch Fawstin that won the AFDI’s “Jihad Watch...

Police reveal a dozen Melbourne girls fled our safe, affluent suburbs to join Islamic State

A DOZEN young women have fled Melbourne’s suburbs to join Islamic State, according to a new Victoria Police taskforce set up to fight the growing threat of terrorism.

The Herald Sun can reveal that of the 12 who have attempted to join the brutal group, five have been successful and are living in the conflict zone.

CNN VIDEO: Pamela Geller Debates Chris Cuomo on Freedom of Speech

One on one with Chris Cuomo.

Chris Cuomo and I have at it. He fights for sharia. I fight for freedom. His cutting me off constantly is annoying, but it is, after all, CNN.

They pretend it’s about not offending when at it’s all about fear. Cuomo told me off-camera that it is CNN policy not to run the cartoons because of fear of violence. In a word, submission.

UPDATE: Left-lemmings on twitter are jumping on the “n-word” analogy. There is nothing inherently offensive about the cartoons — the winning cartoon mocks the death threats that Muslims issue for drawing Muhammad. It is a stand against violent intimidation — any Muslim who supports free speech will support us.

The n-word is just an intentional...

nObama Amnesty Suffers Another Stinging Rebuke
The nObama administration's legal woes continued on Tuesday after government lawyers failed to convince a federal appeals court to overturn a temporary injunction against executive amnesty issued by U.S. District Judge Andrew S. Hanen. In February, Hanen blocked the first phase of the Deferred Action for Parental Accountability program and reaffirmed his decision in April partly because government lawyers misled the court, granting work permits to 100,000 illegals before the executive action was temporarily blocked. Two of the three judges on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit — Jerry Smith and Jennifer Walker Elrod — "found that the states had sufficient legal grounds to bring the lawsuit and that the administration had not shown that it would be harmed if the injunction remained in place and the programs were further delayed," The New York Times reports. Tuesday's ruling isn't a final verdict — the case could eventually make it to the Supreme Court — but the administration is now 0-for-2, and it's looking likelier it will strike out. nObama spokesman Brandi Hoffine responded to the decision by insisting they know the Constitution better than anyone, saying Judges Smith and Elrod "chose to misinterpret the facts and the law in denying the government's request for a stay." If that's the case, how do Democrats expand this nugget from The Washington Post? "nObama's second-term agenda, it seems, is in the hands of the courts. Same-sex marriage. nObamacare. Climate change. And now immigration. And in many cases, there is significant doubt about whether his signature initiatives will stand legal scrutiny." Tell us again who "chose to misinterpret the facts and the law"?  -The Patriot Post

IRS Data Breach Leaves Tax Info of 100K in Hackers' Hands
Using the service to request former tax returns and filings from the IRS, a group of hackers stole confidential information on over 100,000 taxpayers. Using the information, the hackers can file false tax returns, stealing directly from the American taxpayer. "Eighty percent of the identity theft we're dealing with and refund fraud is related to organized crime here and around the world," IRS Commissioner John Koskinen said. "These are extremely sophisticated criminals with access to a tremendous amount of data." It's easy to see that the agency is running damage control. It's not saying if the hackers were foreign or domestic, and Koskinen said people filing fraudulent tax returns only netted $50 million this year. However, the IRS gave identity thieves $5.8 billion in 2013. As Hot Air's Mary Katharine Ham notes, only 6% of Americans believe the U.S. government does a good job protecting their information. With this news, we guess the IRS will get a budget boost in the next few months — whether it needs it or not.More...

Now's a Good Time to Develop a Strategy Against ISIL
With the fall of Ramadi, it may be a good time for the nObama administration to pause, take a step back and reconsider what it has tried and what that has done against ISIL. On Sunday, Defense Secretary Ashton Carter blamed the fall of the strategic city on the Iraqi army. "The Iraqi forces just showed no will to fight," Carter said on CNN. "They were not outnumbered. In fact they vastly outnumbered the opposing force and yet they failed to fight and withdrew from the site. ... We can give them training, we can give them equipment. We obviously can't give them the will to fight." Meanwhile, it appears the U.S. has the equipment, but it too doesn't have the will to fight. The New York Times reports that U.S. planes only fly 15 strikes a day against ISIL, compared to the 800 flown every day during the 2003 Iraq War. Furthermore, only during one out of four flights does the pilot fire munitions. Part of this is due to concern that any civilian deaths would translate into propaganda for ISIL. Part of the hesitation is because the pilots cannot rely on soldiers on the ground pointing out targets and delineating allies. There's plenty for Carter and the rest of the nObama administration to consider. How about sending arms and training to the Kurds? Or sending more U.S. troops to spot U.S. airstrikes? More...  -The Patriot Post

GOP, Prepare for SCOTUS's nObamaCare Ruling
If the Supreme Court rules against the "Affordable" Care Act in King v. Burwell sometime in late June, it could leave the act in deep water, or it could leave Republicans with the dilemma of fixing a problem they didn't create. So says conventional wisdom.
SCOTUSblog.com writer Amy Howe discusses the case: "There are three key parts to the ACA. The first is the 'non-discrimination' rule... The second is the individual mandate, which the Court upheld three years ago... Third, because everyone has to buy insurance, there are tax subsidies to make sure that lower- and middle-income Americans can afford to comply with the individual mandate by buying insurance."
David King is the primary plaintiff in King v. Burwell. He and three other Virginians, for their own reasons, decided they did not want to buy insurance. Virginia, incidentally, joined the federal marketplace, and King has insurance that would cost him $648 per month, but with his subsidy, costs $275. His suit was tossed out of a lower court, but with the help of the American Enterprise Institute he got a writ of certiorari, and he and his fellow plaintiffs' case was picked up by the Supreme Court.
The fight is about four words — "established by the State" — just a few found in the 2,700-page act.  -The Patriot Post

Hezbollah: Human Shields, Tunnels, And Missiles For War With Israel
(Jeff Dunetz) - The reports keep coming...Hezbollah is gearing up for war against the State of Israel. Back in January Former Israeli National Security Adviser, Maj. Gen. (ret.) Yaakov Amidror, outlined the threats to the Jewish State from non-state entities in a report released by the Begin Center for Strategic Studies (BESA)... The most serious existential threat to the Jewish State by non-state entities is the terrorist group Hezbollah, with 150,000 missiles, which according to the General is a “rare and substantial firepower apparently even exceeded the firepower possessed by most of the European states combined.” After having been accustomed to a situation in which large regular armies with armor, artillery, hundreds of aircraft and thousands of troops were arrayed on Israel’s borders, there can be no doubt that Israel has moved into a different world. Since then there has been an onslaught of reports that Hezbollah empowered by the successful Iranian negotiations against an impotent Barack nObama was planning to use those missiles against Israel.     http://yidwithlid.blogspot.com/2015/05/hezbollah-has-human-shields-and-tunnels.html?utm_source=The+Lid+List&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=6ad6390c8f-RSS_EMAIL_CAMPAIGN&utm_term=0_597b72c01c-6ad6390c8f-291705165&goal=0_597b72c01c-6ad6390c8f-291705165

Catholic Group Exposes Red Influence in the Vatican
(Cliff Kincaid) - Doing the research and investigative work that the major U.S. media have all but abandoned, an organization called the American Life League (ALL) has uncovered dramatic evidence of links between the highest levels of the Roman Catholic Church and an international communist group known as the World Social Forum... The evidence suggests overt Marxist influence on the climate change movement that Pope Francis and his top advisers are now embracing. The ALL report, a 76-page PowerPoint presentation complete with original source material and numerous photographs, documents how Caritas Internationalis, the Vatican’s top social justice organization, is actually “providing leadership” to the communist group. The report’s author, Michael Hichborn, stated, “This is a very serious problem. Given how intimately connected the World Social Forum (WSF) has been with the promotion of communism, abortion, and homosexuality since the very beginning, it’s impossible to see how any Catholic can participate in it, or even speak positively about it, let alone have any involvement in its governance.  What’s Wrong With TPP? How About Corporate Extortion Courts
(rickwells.us) - Senator Elizabeth Warren addressed the United States Senate earlier this year in an effort to prevent the blind passage of the TPP, without its having been read and in direct conflict with the will of and what is best for the American people... The Senate Majority Leader, the new Dingy Mitch, didn’t bother to listen. He’s got people to please and they’re all much richer than the common peasants who elected him. He’s got a six year license to steal before he has to face the voters again and he’s getting started now. Warren points out how the agreement provides for external, unelected commissions to rule rather than American courts on disputes involving corporations and signatory nations. It’s called “Investor Dispute Settlement”, ISDS, a kangaroo court composed of corporate cronies deciding issues on each others’ behalf in disputes against sovereign nations, such as the United States.  Al Jazeera Poll Destroys the Myth of the Tiny Minority of Extremists
(David Wood) - When jihadists attacked the World Trade Center, politicians and the media assured us that extremists represent only a tiny minority of Muslims, and that nearly all Muslims support peace, tolerance, democracy, etc... After terrorist attacks in Spain, Great Britain, Russia, and so on, world leaders and news networks continued to proclaim that only a tiny minority of Muslims have radical views. (These extremists, of course, just need jobs.) There's only one problem with the narrative of politicians and the media: It's empirically false. Poll after poll, study after study have shown that the number of Muslims who support blasphemy laws, the death penalty for apostates, terrorist attacks, etc., is quite large. The Al Jazeera news network accidentally let the cat out of the bag recently by asking readers whether they support Islamic State victories. After more than 40,000 readers responded, the network found that more than 80 percent supported ISIS.

U.S. Intel: nObama Coalition Supported Islamic State in Syria
(Alex Newman) - A newly released intelligence report from the Pentagon shows that the U.S. government knew that supporting jihadists in the fight against Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad would produce a fundamentalist Islamic State in Eastern Syria... and that nObama’s supposed “anti-ISIS” coalition knowingly backed ISIS and other Islamic terrorists for precisely that purpose. The heavily redacted Defense Department report, obtained by watchdog Judicial Watch via a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit, shows once again that, contrary to the false narrative peddled by the establishment press, the rise of the savage terror group known as ISIS was actually deliberate policy. Now, the fruits of that plot are becoming clearer as the body count continues to skyrocket.       http://www.thenewamerican.com/world-news/asia/item/20943-u-s-intel-obama-coalition-supported-islamic-state-in-syria?utm_source=Newsletter&utm_campaign=4336171292-The_Editors_Top_Picks_3_12_143_12_2014&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_8ca494f2d2-4336171292-289778381

Support Our Troops: Get US Out of the United Nations!
(John F. McManus) - The complete text of the UN Charter’s Article 25 states: “The Members of the United Nations agree to accept and carry out the decisions of the Security Council in accordance with the present Charter.”... That clearly stated requirement supersedes adherence to the U.S. Constitution. That any U.S. government official would agree to that is incredible. When the UN’s Security Council decides to act, our nation’s membership requires the United States to “accept and carry out” what the Security Council wants done. It is true that our nation possesses a veto that can be used to block passage of any Security Council resolution. But U.S. leaders don’t exercise this veto power. It was a UN Security Council resolution that got our nation into the 1950 Korean War, not a required congressional declaration. Had there been a declaration of war and if its inherent goal had been to gain victory, the Korean War could have been won. But victory was denied (by the UN) and as a result our nation still has tens of thousands of troops in South Korea — all of whom serve in the overall UN Command.   http://www.thenewamerican.com/reviews/opinion/item/20944-support-our-troops-get-us-out-of-the-united-nations?utm_source=Newsletter&utm_campaign=4336171292-The_Editors_Top_Picks_3_12_143_12_2014&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_8ca494f2d2-4336171292-289778381

U.S. PUSHBACK AGAINST MUSLIM REFUGEES 'GROWING'
(Leo Hohmann) - WND has discovered what amounts to the government playbook for countering the rising “backlash” against the secret planting of Muslim refugees into cities and towns across America... Now, WND has learned the government and its contractors have a stock plan on how to deal with what they call “backlash” to refugee resettlement in American cities. Titled “Resettlement at Risk: Meeting Emerging Challenges to Refugee Resettlement in Local Communities,” the report by one of the federal government’s top resettlement contractors admits that communities “across the country” are pushing back against the refugee program, especially when it involves the infusion of Muslims into their city or town. In the wake of the report, the nObama administration has handed out millions of dollars in grants to organizations like Welcoming America, which works to “educate” elected officials and the public in “receiving communities” before refugees arrive. Welcoming America was started in 2010 with seed money from George Soros’s Open Society Institute.

Senate Passes Trade Bill that Could Increase Foreign Workers
(fairus.org) - On Friday, the Senate passed legislation granting President nObama fast track trade promotion authority (TPA). (Senate Roll Call Vote 193) With TPA, President nObama will be able to implement part of his immigration agenda through trade agreements... rather than through legislation passed by Congress. Specifically, President nObama — who opposed TPA when he served in the Senate — claims he needs TPA in order to finalize the Trade Pacific Partnership (TPP), a large trade deal with 11 Latin American and Asian countries. Although the specifics of TPP are being intentionally withheld from the public, the outline of the TPP released by the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative indicates that a "key feature" of the TPP is a "temporary entry" guest worker program. The TPA authorizing bill now moves to the House. It is currently uncertain whether the bill has enough votes to pass.       http://www.fairus.org/legislative-updates/legislative-update-5-27-2015#1

 "Secular" Turkey
(Uzay Bulut) - When many Western analysts discuss the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) in Turkey, they rightfully criticize it for its religious intolerance, authoritarianism and lack of respect for secular principles and minorities... They also tend to compare the AKP to former Kemalist governments, and draw a distinction between the Islamist AKP and former non-Islamist governments. They claim that Turkey was "secular" and somewhat "democratic," until the AKP came to power. A deeper look into the history of Turkey, however, reveals that, unfortunately, Turkey has never been either truly secular or democratic. The modern Turkish state, since its founding in 1923, has never kept its hands off religion. It has engaged in religious matters on almost all levels -- by institutionalizing Sunni Islam and by persecuting (or annihilating) other faiths. Intolerance, even hatred, for non-Muslims was openly promoted -- even by the heads of the state -- from day one.       http://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/5833/secular-turkey

Clinton Confidant Revealed as Source of Benghazi Misinformation
(Helle Dale) - One of the mysteries surrounding the Benghazi scandal appears to have been solved with the release of the private emails of former Secretary of State Hilly Clinton... The question was who came up with the false narrative of the cause of the attack on the U.S. Benghazi consulate on Sept. 11, 2012. The answer, according to emails obtained by The New York Times, is Sidney Blumenthal, former journalist and longtime confidante of the Clintons. Both the Department of Defense and the State Department immediately identified terrorism as the cause of the attack on Benghazi. But it was Hilly Clinton, in remarks at the U.S.-Morocco Strategic Dialogue on Sept. 13 of that year, who first suggested the activity at the Benghazi consulate began as a demonstration over an anti-Islam YouTube video. And now compelling evidence in the email trail points to Blumenthal as the source of that narrative. But this nObama admin continue to give out misinformation, even when knowing the truth.        http://dailysignal.com/2015/05/26/clinton-confidant-revealed-source-benghazi-misinformation/?utm_source=heritagefoundation&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=morningbell&mkt_tok=3RkMMJWWfF9wsRojsqvNZKXonjHpfsX56%2BQpWqS%2BlMI%2F0ER3fOvrPUfGjI4JScNrI%2BSLDwEYGJlv6SgFQrLBMa1ozrgOWxU%3D

Capital punishment’s slow death
George F. Will
.

(washingtonpost.com) - Without a definitive judicial ruling or other galvanizing event, a perennial American argument is ending. Capital punishment is withering away.
.
It is difficult to imagine moral reasoning that would support the conclusion that an injustice will be done when, years hence, the death penalty finally is administered to Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the Boston Marathon terrorist who placed a bomb in a crowd and then strolled to safety. Sentencing to death those who commit heinous crimes satisfies a sense of moral proportionality. This is, however, purchased with disproportionate social costs, as Nebraska seems to be concluding.
.      Nebraska is not a nest of liberals. Yet on Wednesday its 49-member unicameral legislature passed a bill abolishing the death penalty 32 to 15. Gov. Pete Ricketts, a Republican, vows to veto it.
.
This comes at a time when, nationwide, exonerations of condemned prisoners and botched executions are dismayingly frequent. Nebraska’s death penalty opponents, including a majority of Nebraskans, say it is expensive without demonstrably enhancing public safety or being a solace to families of murder victims. Some Nebraska families have testified that the extended legal processes surrounding the death penalty prolong their suffering. That sentiment is shared by Bill and Denise Richard, whose 8-year-old son was killed by Tsarnaev.
.
Last month, the U.S. Supreme Court heard oral arguments about whether one component of a three-drug mixture used in lethal injection executions — and recently used in some grotesquely protracted ones — is unreliable in preventing suffering that violates the Eighth Amendment proscription of “cruel and unusual punishments.” States use the drug in question because more effective drugs are hard to acquire, partly because death penalty opponents are pressuring drug companies not to supply them.
.
For this, Justice Antonin Scalia blamed a death penalty “abolitionist movement.” Justice Samuel A. Alito Jr. asked, “Is it appropriate for the judiciary to countenance what amounts to a guerrilla war against the death penalty, which consists of efforts to make it impossible for the states to obtain drugs that could be used to carry out capital punishment with little, if any, pain?” Justice Anthony M. Kennedy wondered, “What bearing, if any, should be put on the fact that there is a method, but that it’s not available because of opposition to the death penalty? What relevance does that have?”
.
The answers are: Public agitation against capital punishment is not relevant to judicial reasoning. And it is not the judiciary’s business to worry that a ruling might seem to “countenance” this or that social advocacy.
.
The conservative case against capital punishment, which 32 states have, is threefold. First, the power to inflict death cloaks government with a majesty and pretense of infallibility discordant with conservatism. Second, when capital punishment is inflicted, it cannot later be corrected because of new evidence, so a capital punishment regime must be administered with extraordinary competence. It is, however, a government program. Since 1973, more than 140 people sentenced to death have been acquitted of their crimes (sometimes by DNA evidence), had the charges against them dismissed by prosecutors or have been pardoned based on evidence of innocence. For an unsparing immersion in the workings of the governmental machinery of death, read “Just Mercy” by Bryan Stevenson, executive director and founder of the Equal Justice Initiative.
.
Third, administration of death sentences is so sporadic and protracted that their power to deter is attenuated. And the expensive, because labyrinthine, legal protocols with which the judiciary has enveloped capital punishment are here to stay. Granted, capital punishment could deter: If overdue library books were punishable by death, none would be overdue. But many crimes for which death is reserved, including Tsarnaev’s crime of ideological premeditation, are especially difficult to deter.
.      Those who favor capital punishment because of its supposed deterrent effect do not favor strengthening that effect by restoring the practice of public executions. There has not been one in America since 1937 (a hanging in Galena, Mo.) because society has decided that state-inflicted deaths, far from being wholesomely didactic spectacles, are coarsening and revolting.
.
Revulsion is not an argument, but it is evidence of what former chief justice Earl Warren called society’s “evolving standards of decency.” In the essay “Reflections on the Guillotine,” Albert Camus wrote, “The man who enjoys his coffee while reading that justice has been done would spit it out at the least detail.” Capital punishment, say proponents, serves social catharsis. But administering it behind prison walls indicates a healthy squeamishness that should herald abolition.

HR 1943 Bill Signing: The Official Photograph
The Governor's Office, Olympia, Washington, May 18th, 2015

Governor Inslee signing into law the bill, HR1943, that passed unanimously through the state legislature. The new law defines, closes the existing loopholes and tightens regulations on existing electronic home monitoring (EHM) law.

I could (and have) said a lot about the state EHM problems leading to this moment, but my heartfelt gratitude and personal thanks goes out to Scott Roberts and Glen Morgan of the Freedom Foundation for investigating what I reported and for bringing the necessary scrutiny to this issue that ultimately led to the needed changes.

Fortunately, Scott and Glen, as well as the state legislature and Gov. Inslee, saw through the veil of deceit that this county threw up around the issue. I'm so very grateful for that and stand a vindicated man now for it.

Best regards,

Paul Murphy

EPA Expands Authority Over America’s Waterways

More than a year after initially proposing it, and despite efforts by congressional Republicans to block such a move, the Environmental Protection Agency and U.S. Army Crops of Engineers, citing authority under the Clean Water Act, enacted a new rule that gives the federal government additional control over waterways. “The Obama administration issued a rule on Wednesday putting more small bodies of water and wetlands under federal protection to ensure clean drinking supplies,” The Wall Street Journal reports, a power grab that “is estimated to put about 3% more waterways throughout the U.S. under new federal jurisdiction.” Obama officials say they’re simply maximizing existing legal authority. According to EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy, “This rule is about clarification, and in fact, we’re adding exclusions for features like artificial lakes and ponds, water-filled depressions from constructions and grass swales.” However, the Journal adds, “The rule seeks to require those kinds of permits for only those waterways that have physical features of flowing water.”

And that’s exactly the concern, explains Hot Air’s Jazz Shaw: “The physical feature of flowing water? Depending on the conditions, the slope of the land and how much it rains on any given day, that could apply to pretty much anything.” Moreover, “People who own property adjacent to or including swampy areas with poor drainage can (and already have) run afoul of the feds if they want to improve the drainage to dry out a section for construction or just a better looking lawn.” As Mark Alexander wrote last month, Democrats, led by the powerful EPA, leverage environmental concerns to conceal their real agenda — the constriction of free enterprise. Their objective is to incrementally implement centralized economic control through regulatory requirements justified by ever-expanding “mandates.” In implementing its newest rule — “one of nearly 10 that the EPA is slated to complete in coming months,” the Journal notes — the agency is essentially saying, “Trust us.” That’s a dangerous thing to oblige when Liberty is at stake.

Krauthammer: How Amnesty Smackdown Hurts Republicans

Fox News political analyst Charles Krauthammer offered his two cents on Tuesday’s decision by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit to keep a temporary injunction in place blocking executive amnesty. According to Krauthammer, “For the Republicans, it’s a problem.” Here’s why: “It’s like the case going forward on ObamaCare and the thing about the exchanges and the subsidies. The problem is what happens if you win? Because if you win then the issue gets thrown back into the political arena.” He argues, “If somehow this would be completely tossed out, then the question will be, ‘what’s your plan on immigration reform,’ if anything. I think up until now, you can say, ‘well it’s in the hands of the courts.’ But at a certain point it’s not going to be and you’re going to have to answer.” Like or not, he’s right. Immigration is a sour topic, but taking Barack Obama’s diktats to court isn’t enough. Lest they want to commit political suicide, conservatives will eventually have to rally around viable solutions to the illegal immigration problem and present them in an articulate manner.

On May 21, Santorum told the Southern Republican Leadership Conference, “We are not going be successful unless we have a message that talks to the people who are struggling to rise.” But while he came second place to Mitt Romney four years ago, he faces longer odds this time around. Statistics blog FiveThirtyEight says Santorum is running in a more crowded field this time around. This places him around 10th place in the popularity polls, right around the cutoff of the number of candidates Fox News and CNN says they will invite to preliminary presidential debates. In other words, Santorum does not only have to fight about issues, he’s running an underdog fight that may be felled by the arbitrary rules created by a media company. More…

Your Viewing Guide to Sunday’s Showdown Over the Patriot Act

By Allyne Caan

2015-05-28-fa2c4636_large.jpg

In the wake of Sept. 11, 2001, passing the Patriot Act seemed the inarguably patriotic thing to do. Nearly 14 years later, however, the lines of patriotism are less clearly drawn. Up for reauthorization, the act is facing staunch opposition — and creating strange bedfellows — in the wake of increasing concerns over government spying on the American people.

Last week, the House, by a vote of 338-88, passed not a reauthorization of the full Patriot Act but the equally patriotic sounding USA Freedom Act, which would continue the Patriot Act’s surveillance powers but end specific practices including the NSA’s data collection program (recently deemed illegal by a federal court), roving wiretaps and so-called lone-wolf surveillance tactics.

Libertarian-leaning Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) has long opposed the Patriot Act and would shed not a tear at its demise. He also believes the USA Freedom Act needs amending to ensure stronger protections for Americans against the government.

Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), on the other hand, believes the Patriot Act’s powers are requisite to security and had pushed for reauthorization of the act at best, a temporary extension at worst. He failed on both counts. Somewhere in the middle are senators who would keep much of the act but allow certain portions of it to expire.

Now, the Senate is set to reconvene this Sunday for a rare, holiday-recess vote in advance of the Patriot Act’s midnight expiration date May 31. Due to the political dance, the Senate is faced with the option of either passing the USA Freedom Act exactly as delivered by the House or allowing all provisions of the Patriot Act to expire, as the House is not slated to reconvene until Monday, several hours after the clock strikes midnight.

The FBI, for its part, has argued that the powers granted by the Patriot Act are invaluable for fighting terrorism. FBI Director James Comey pointed particularly to roving wiretaps, pursuing lone-wolf threats and provisions that allow the FBI to get court orders to track hotel and travel records as part of terrorism investigations. Attorney General Loretta Lynch echoed Comey, opposing the expiration of “vital and uncontroversial tools we use to combat terrorism and crime.” Of course, the meaning of “uncontroversial” is quite controversial.

For his part, Barack Obama is backing the House and urging the Senate to pass the USA Freedom Act, stating, “Make sure we don’t have on midnight Sunday night this task still undone, because it’s necessary to keep the American people safe and secure.” Please note: Obama’s sentiments apply only to government surveillance and not to border security.

Meanwhile, Obama spokesman Josh Earnest reassured the American people that the White House has no Plan B should Congress fail to extend parts of the Patriot Act. This is particularly comforting given executive action would be far worse, regardless of what the Senate and House agree or disagree upon.

Although the USA Freedom Act failed to meet the 60-vote muster the first time around, its prospects may be slightly better on Sunday. According to Politico, Sen. Mark Kirk (R-IL), who voted “no” initially, has suggested he may back the bill; Sen. Mike Enzi (R-WY) missed the first vote but is being eyed as a possible “yes”; Sens. Bill Cassidy (R-LA) and John Boozman (R-AR) are also considered possible “yes” votes. And even McConnell admitted backing for the USA Freedom Act “makes it pretty challenging to extend the law as it is.”

In a world of increasing terror threats, it’s critical that the federal government fulfill its constitutional obligation to “provide for the common defense.” However, it’s up to the American people to ensure this clause does not become the next “general welfare” clause, abused beyond recognition in the name of the public good. While security is critical, liberty is essential. We would do well to remember that fully ceding the latter has never guaranteed the former.

OPINION IN BRIEF

R. Emmett Tyrrell: “[F]rom Atlanta … comes a plan for alternative state funding of the school system that would provide widespread reform. … Glenn Delk wrote about the plan last week in The American Spectator. Here is the plan in a simplified form. The state legislature passes a law allowing families to establish an Education Savings Account for each child, placing up to $8,000 per student into a tax-free account. The money is there to use purely for educational purposes. Any funds left unspent in a year may be rolled over to the next year or for college. Additionally, the state applies for a waiver from the federal government so the state can apply the $1 billion it already gets to Education Savings Accounts of $10,000 each for the state’s poorest children. What is more, the state spends $8,000 per student from the $8 billion it has already set aside for students without regard for family income. Thus, the state could fund one million students without increasing funding. If you assume that the 150,000 students currently attending private schools would qualify, then 850,000 public school students would qualify. Assuming 100,000 of them use federal funds, and 850,000 public school students use state funds, that leaves 650,000 public school students to attend schools run by traditional school districts, with $8 billion in local property tax funding. … I think it is worth a try.”

China Warns that War is Inevitable

The power vacuum created by the Obama administration’s withdrawal from world leadership and resistance to tyranny is not only being filled by the Islamic State and its terrorist affiliates like Boko Haram and state sponsors of terror like soon-to-be nuclear Iran but also by an increasingly belligerent and resurgent China.

China’s State Council, the Communist giant’s version of our cabinet, has issued a policy paper declaring that Beijing is facing “a grave and complex array of security threats” that forces it to switch its strategy from defense to offense and that as a result China will increase its “open seas protection”.

This means that China is not about to give up its territorial claim in the South and East China Seas, which include the Spratley, Paracel, and Shenkaku Island chains but will protect them with aggressive force if necessary. China will also continue its building of artificial islands as bases from which to strike. This is a clear response to President Obama’s “Pacific pivot” and an indication of how little Beijing is impressed.
