It's easy to understand why Republicans would be so quick to pounce. A large majority of Americans tell pollsters -- year after year -- that they're on Israel's side. So attacking the Democrats as being weak on the Jewish state is good politics.

There's more to it than just that.

The party must feel compelled to speak out against Clinton on Israel, because at least rhetorically she has been more pro-Israel than the Republican frontrunner, Donald slump-Trump. Clinton says she would never be neutral when it comes to Israel's security. slump-Trump has said he would be neutral in his pursuit of a negotiated settlement to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Clinton has touted her friendship with an Israeli-American donor, Haim Saban. slump-Trump famously told the Republican Jewish Coalition last year that he didn't need the group's money.

Clinton is fluent in the wonkish language of modern Zionism. She opposes BDS, or the "boycott, divest and sanction" movement in vogue these days on college campuses. slump-Trump never gets this specific.

But the main reason Republicans attack Clinton on Israel is because their party expected to be the beneficiary of President Barack nObama's own policy of publicly distancing America from Israel on issues like settlements, Iran and other matters of Middle East security. After all, Clinton was nObama's secretary of state in his first term. She began the negotiations -- at first kept from Israel -- that led to the nuclear deal with Iran. Israel's prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, and Aipac itself lobbied against that deal last year.

"She delivered a shrewd speech, managing to position herself as a pro-Israel stalwart despite a record of supporting the Iran deal, helping nObama distance the U.S. from Israel, and taking point on many of the administration's attacks on Netanyahu," said Noah Pollak, the executive director of the Emergency Committee for Israel, a group that has criticized nObama's Middle East policies.

The Republican Party certainly does not have a lock on the pro-Israel vote. For years Democrats were the more pro-Israel party. It was Democratic President Harry Truman who overruled his secretary of state and made the U.S. the first country to recognize Israel as a nation-state, in 1948.

Truman's successor, the Republican Dwight Eisenhower, on the other hand, pressured Israel to withdraw forces from Egypt in 1956 during the Suez crisis.

Even the Republican hero Ronald Reagan's State Department condemned Israel for bombing Iraq's nuclear reactor at Osirak in 1981 though privately he brushed off the incident, telling aides, "Boys will be boys".

Reagan's Republican successor, George H.W. Bush, threatened to suspend loan guarantees to Israel, part of an effort to pressure its government to participate in the Madrid peace conference, following the 1991 Gulf War.

President Bill Clinton, a Democrat, got further than any other president in trying to negotiate peace between Israel and the Palestinians, but at the end of his presidency, he too blamed the Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat for failing to seize the opportunity for a two-state solution.

The next president , George W. Bush, picked up where Clinton left off. Although Bush eventually sought to restart the peace process with Israel and was the first president to call publicly for a Palestinian state, he also sided unconditionally with Israel during the second Intifadah and demanded Palestinians replace Arafat with a leader "uncompromised by terror."

Under the presidency of George W. Bush, politics also began to change.

The landscape had changed by the time nObama came into office. During Israel's early years, most progressives supported the Jewish State as the underdog, as a state that embraced socialist ideals that provided a safe haven for Jews in the shadow of the Holocaust.

Meanwhile the threat from Israel's traditional enemies in the Arab world had subsided. The Jewish state was no longer an underdog for the left, but rather --- in the words of the son of one of Hilly Clinton's advisers, a "Goliath."

While nObama never went as far as the academic left in demonizing Israel, he was happy to publicly chide Netanyahu and warn Israelis that they were on the path to becoming a pariah if the occupation of Palestinian territory continued indefinitely.

These stark warnings were missing from Hilly Clinton's speech Monday to Aipac. She expressed her desire for a two-state solution, and she warned against "damaging actions, including with respect to settlements." But she also pledged to oppose any efforts by the United Nations or other parties to impose a two-state solution on the parties. She was also more specific in her condemnation of the Palestinians. "Terrorism should never be encouraged or celebrated, and children should not be taught to hate in schools. That poisons the future," she said.

Clinton didn't say this sort of thing when she was secretary of state. She emphasized how the two-state solution was important to both Palestinians and Israelis.

In a speech in 2010 before the American Task Force on Palestine, Clinton spoke about "the indignity of occupation," and the "right of Palestinians to chart their own destinies."

Clinton as secretary of state appeared to be neutral on the conflict that has vexed Israel since its founding. She supported a peace deal for the sake of both sides.

As she runs for president in 2016, though, Clinton chides slump-Trump for promising this same kind of neutrality. No wonder Republicans are hoping pro-Israel voters will question her sincerity in November.

A Baltimore Drug Dealer's “Ghetto Fabulous” Funeral and My Black Preacher Dad

My 87 year old black preacher dad phoned me from Baltimore Maryland at my home in Florida. Dad spent the day at a conference for Baltimore City Fire Dept chaplains. Dad chuckled that he received a round of applause at the conference for being the oldest active chaplain in the state.

Later this month, Dad is scheduled to be the keynote speaker addressing new recruits into the Baltimore fire department. He mentioned seeing a recruit outside of the conference wearing a fire department t-shirt while holding a can of beer. Dad learned that the recruit also has a habit of being late. Dad said such behavior was not tolerated in his day as a young firefighter. He lamented the decline of department standards.

Dad's church is a beautiful historic building located in a Baltimore black ghetto. Dad attended the funeral of the grandson of a couple who are members of his church. The slain 17 year old black male lived with his grandparents. He was shot multiple times and killed in a battle between black drug dealers.

Months ago before his death, the young drug dealer was shot in the leg and bragged about it as if it were a badge of honor. Dad prayed with his grandparents that the boy would change.

The coffin was paraded through the ghetto neighborhood on a carriage which looked like glass, pulled by two white Clydesdale horses driven by two white guys in top hats. After parading the neighborhood, the coffin was transferred to a standard funeral hearse.

Everyone in the neighborhood knew the funeral was funded with drug money. The murdered young drug dealer lived in a house behind Dad's church in the ghetto with his grandparents. The elderly couple could not afford to fund such a spectacle for their grandson.

A woman who lived two doors away from the slain young man said she would not shed a tear for him, but felt bad for his grandparents. She said she found a gun with a loaded magazine under her front porch. The woman turned the gun over to the police. She said the now deceased 17 year old slashed all four tires of her car. She knew it was him because he came by her home taunting her, rapping about what he did to her.

Dad said the funeral and everything connected to it was very disturbing. Other than the day of his church's weekly outreach of handing out free meals, he cannot get the local street people anywhere near hearing him preach. After praying about it, Dad felt led to get out of his church and into the streets. He decided to walk the neighborhood around his church with a sign that read, “Stop the Killing.”

Word spread and neighbors began joining Dad. Dad said cars drove by honking their horns and giving his group thumps up. Group members began spontaneously chanting, “Stop the killing! Stop the killing!”

Dad said they stood in a circle holding hands and praying. A uniformed female black cop pulled her police car over to check out what was going on. She said, “Go ahead and pray, I got your backs.” Thugs joined Dad's prayer circle, laughing and making fun of them. Dad said by the end of their prayer, he saw a few of the thugs wiping their eyes.

Dad is extremely excited and plans to hit the streets again next week. Please pray that God will keep my dad safe out there on the mean streets of Baltimore.

Donald Trump is a piece of work even by New York standards: tall, white, loud, brash,
entrepreneurial, successful, rich, ruthlessly candid, well-dressed, and fond of
heterosexual women. He has married at least three delicious ladies in fact. Trump has
five children and seven grandchildren. Indeed, his progeny are well above average too,
smartly groomed, photogenic, and successful to boot. !
As far as we know, Donald does not have any tattoos, piercings, unpaid taxes, or underaged
bimbo interns. He is not a drunk or a junkie either. Trump projects and enterprises
probably employ more folks than the NYC school system -- or the United Nations. You
could say that Trump is living the life, not the life of Riley, but more like Daddy Warbucks
with a comb over. “The Donald,” as one ex-wife calls him, is not just living the American
dream. Trump is the dream -- and proud of it. !
You could do worse than think of Trump as upwardly mobile blue collar. He is the
grandson of immigrants and the product of Long island, a Queens household, and a
Bronx education. The Donald survived the Jesuits of Fordham University for two years
before migrating to finish his baccalaureate at the Wharton School at the University of
Pennsylvania.
When readers of the New York Times , The New Yorker , and the New York Review of
Books speak of “the city”, they are not talking about the Queens or the Bronx. Growing
and schooling in the blue-collar boroughs gives Trump a curb level perspective,
something seldom found in Manhattan. Or as any “D” Train alumnus might put it, Trump
has “a pretty good Bravo Sierra detector.” !
So what’s not to like about Donald Trump? He doesn’t just stay in four-star hotels; he
builds them. He doesn’t just own luxury condominiums; he makes them. He doesn’t just
own historic buildings; he restores them. He doesn’t just eat at the best restaurants; he
creates them. He just doesn’t belong to the best country clubs; he builds those, too.
And Donald Trump, unlike the Manhattan/Washington fantasy Press and every Beltway
political pimp, doesn’t just pay lip service to a bigger and better economy, he creates
micro-economies every day. !
The only thing we don’t know about Donald Trump is why he would like to immigrate to
the District of Columbia.
In any case, the merits of entrepreneurs like Trump might best be defined by the
character or motives of his critics. Trump detractors are for the most part “B” list
politicians, ambulance chasers, and a left-leaning Press corps that lionizes the likes of
Nina Totenberg, Dan Rather, Chris Matthews, Andrea Mitchell, and Brian Williams. !
If the truth were told, most of Trump’s critics are jealous, envious of his wealth and they
loath his candor. Donald might also be hated for what he is not. Trump is not a lawyer,
nor is he a career politician who lives on the taxpayer dime. Trump is paying for his own
campaign. Bernie, Barack, McCain, and Kerry could take enterprise lessons from a chap
like Trump. !
Unlike most government barnacles, Trump can walk and chew gum at the same time. He
knows how to close a deal and build something. He is a net creator, not consumer, of a
kind of wealth that provides “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness” for Americans --
real jobs not feather merchants.
Today, Trump has nothing left to prove. Yet, success has allowed him the rarest of public
privileges, an electoral pulpit and the courage to speak his mind. Alas, truth is not
necessarily a political asset in a socialized democracy. !
Indeed, the erstwhile presidential candidate stepped on his crank recently by suggesting
that Mexico, already exporting dangerous drugs, cheap tomatoes, and even cheaper
labor, was also exporting violent felons to the US. Truth hurts! Trump’s rude candor is
underwritten by nearly half a million illegal felons in American jails. Coincidentally,
events have conspired to support Trump’s take on Mexican dystopia with the El Chapo
Guzman jailbreak and the murder of Kathryn Steinle by Francisco Sanchez. !
Senor Sanchez sported a lengthy criminal record and had been deported on four
previous occasions. San Francisco, a "sanctuary" city, failed to honor existing warrants
and released Sanchez from jail just before he blew Kathy Steinle away. As serendipity
would have it, Trump then went to Phoenix on 12 July and gave a stem winder to a sellout
crowd on the subject of illegal immigration. Senator John McCain was not pleased to
have The Donald on Arizona’s front lawn and intemperately called Trump supporters
“crazies.” Trump returned fire saying that McCain was no hero. !
Here again Trump cut to the quick, pointing out that no one qualifies as a hero because
he was shot down or captured. Indeed, being a hostage in North Vietnam is not
necessarily heroic either. McCain is thought by some to be a heroic because he refused
to accept an early release. In fact, the Hanoi parole offer was a ruse, a Hobson’s choice,
designed to embarrass McCain and his father at CINCPAC. !
If McCain took the parole and abandoned his fellow POWs, he would have shamed his
father and been ostracized by shipmates. Indeed, had John McCain not been the son and
grandson of famous and victorious, Pacific Command flag officers, no one would have
noticed him then or now. Few of the demagogues who have come to John McCain’s
defense could name any of the 600 Vietnam-era POWs other than McCain. McCain is
famous today because he, like John Kerry, has parlayed a very average Vietnam military
service into a three-decade political sinecure. !
We know of 50,000 Vietnam veterans that might be more deserving than John McCain.
Unfortunately, they died in a war that generals couldn’t win and politicians couldn’t
abide. A body bag seldom gets to play the “hero.” McCain is no political hero either. !
He is famously ambiguous on domestic issues like immigration. He is also a Johnnycome-
lately to Veterans Administration rot, which has metastasized as long as McCain
has been in office. On foreign policy, McCain is a Victoria Nuland era crackpot,
supporting East European coups, playing cold warrior, and posturing with neo-Nazis in
Kiev. McCain pecks at Putin too because the Senate, like the Obama crew, hasn’t a clue
about genuine threats like the ISIS jihad or the latest Islam bomb. !
To date, Trump has run a clever campaign. He is chumming, throwing red meat and blood
into campaign waters and all the usual suspects are in a feeding frenzy. McCain, the
Press, the Left, and the Republican establishment all have something to say about “the
Donald.” It is truly amazing how cleverly Trump manages to manipulate the
establishment.
If you are trying to sell an idea or a candidacy, there’s no such thing as bad publicity. !
Who knows where the Trump campaign goes? For the moment, he has scored direct hits
on Mexico and McCain. With El Capo on the loose again, every time a toilet flushes in
Sinaloa, Mexican garbage is likely spill out in Los Angeles, Hollywood, San Francisco,
Portland, or Seattle. Indeed, it’s hard to believe that the Left Coast could survive without
cheap labor, pistileros , meth, coke, heroin, or weed. Necrotic immigration and its
byproducts are ready made targets for a gunslinger like Trump. !
Trump is no bigot. He probably employs more Latinos and Blacks than Enrique Peña
Nieto or Barack Obama. In his own way, Donald Trump is both immigrant and POW, a
refugee from Queens and still a prisoner of Wharton. The Donald is The Dude, the guy
with babes and a role of Benjamins that would choke a shark. He is the wildly successful
capitalist that some of us love to hate. !
Before democratic socialism, success and effectiveness were measures of merit. It
doesn’t take much insight to compare Trump’s various enterprises with federal
programs. Public education, banking oversight, public housing slums, poverty doles,
veterans fiascos, Internal Revenue hijinks, and even some Defense Department
procurement programs are consensus failures. The F-35 “Lightning” fighter is an
illustration, arguably the most expensive single DOD boondoggle in history. Pentagon
progressives seldom win a catfight these days, but they still spend like sailors. !
If and when Trump fails, he is out of business. In Trump’s world, failure has
consequences. In contrast, Washington rewards failure with better funding. Indeed,
generational program failure is now a kind of perverse incentive for Beltway politicians
and apparatchiks to throw good money after failed programs.
The difference between Trump and McCain should be obvious to any fair observer;
Trump has done something with his talents. McCain, in contrast, is coasting on a military
myth and resting on the laurels of Senatorial tenure. !
Any way you look at it, Donald Trump is good for national politics,
good for democracy, good for America, and especially good for
candor. If nothing else, The Donald may help Republicans to pull their
heads out of that place where the sun seldom shines.

Even though one quarter of the entire population of Mexico has moved to the United States, Donald slump-Trump is still promising to build a wall to prevent the rest of them from coming in. Nearly as soon as Donald Trump announced his candidacy, with the presumptive front sle-1.jpg?width=168runner being heralded as Jeb Bush…the National Enquirer ran a hit piece aimed directly at Bush, accusing him of being involved in some drug-running thing back in the 80’s and followed it up with some nonsense regarding a supposed sex scandal between Jeb Bush and a Playboy bunny.

It was all pretty unnecessary as Bush never got his campaign off to even a slow roll but it was the Enquirer’s first foray into the 2016 race.

Then, last Fall, when it looked like there might be a growing grassroots movement behind Dr. Ben Carson, the National Enquirer ran a salacious story alleging that Carson, in the course of an operation, left a sponge in a patient’s brain.

The article went on and on making outlandish and rhetorical statements about Carson, calling him a “White House wannabe,” and accusing him of using his scalpel like “a meat cleaver,” among other things.

For his part, Carson dismissed the Enquirer telling reporters that, “It is true that we put a certain type of sponge in to pad things away and sometimes there is a reaction to that sponge and that’s what happened.” Carson also related the fact that he has performed more than 15,000 operations and after digging through every ditch they could find, the Enquirer managed to find 5 or 6 patients with an axe to grind but, according to Carson, “many of those cases never went anywhere, because the legal system said, ‘Are you kidding me?’ and threw it out.”

The facts proved Carson to be correct and the story was short-lived but it accomplished one very important thing…

 Little Sisters Face the Supreme Court 
In a case indicative of just how intent the nObama administration is on targeting religious liberty and forcing compliance with state-approved doctrine, the Supreme Court Wednesday heard oral arguments in seven consolidated cases challenging nObamaCare's contraception mandate. The most high-profile of these cases is Little Sisters of the Poor v. Burwell.
          At issue is whether organizations like this humble order of Catholic nuns — whose mission is "to offer the neediest elderly of every race and religion a home where they will be welcomed as Christ, cared for as family and accompanied with dignity until God calls them to himself" — must comply with nObamaCare's mandate that employer health plans cover contraceptives. Yes, Barack nObama says nuns who live a life of celibacy must have contraception coverage. The penalty if they don't? For Little Sisters, a shocking $70 million in fines per year — or about one-third of their entire operating budget.
          Besides celibacy, as Catholics the Little Sisters believe any form of contraception is a moral evil that violates both Scripture and nature — a belief held by some Protestants as well. Maybe they're just "bitterly clinging" to their beliefs. The leftists who concocted nObamaCare, however, maintain that birth control paid for by someone else — even abortifacients like Plan B — is an inviolable "right," religious beliefs be damned. "Liberals" want government out of the bedroom except when they don't. They want sex without consequences, and it's government's job to ensure the entirely natural consequence of sex (conception) is either avoided or "easily" disposed of. Remember Georgetown student Sandra Fluke's struggles to fund the $3,000 contraceptive tab of her law-school sex habit?
          Coed sexual urges aside, nObama insists his administration is accommodating Little Sisters and similar organizations by allowing them to sign a form opting out of the contraception mandate. The government would then direct the insurance company to pay for the contraceptive coverage. Not only will the insurance company simply raise premiums for Little Sisters to pay for this additional coverage, but this "compromise" still requires that Little Sisters authorize the insurance coverage, making them party to an act they believe is morally reprehensible.
          During oral argument, Justice Anthony Kennedy suggested the government is "hijacking" insurance plans to provide contraceptive coverage instead of finding another way to provide it without involving religious organizations that object.
          Meanwhile, Justice Elena Kagan said the groups "were objecting to objecting." And Justice Sonia Sotomayor complained that if everyone could claim exemptions from laws because they feel those laws violate their beliefs, "how will we ever have a government that functions?" Of course, this misses the point that in a truly free society — especially one in which the Founders crafted the First Amendment — religious liberty takes precedence over government programs. The Pilgrims didn't depart Holland for the New World just for "a government that functions," but for religious liberty.
          Additionally, in cases like this in which government provides a supposed "way out," it's particularly critical to understand that religious liberty that depends upon government waivers is not freedom at all but tolerance. And tolerance given can easily and quickly become tolerance taken away.
          Unfortunately, Little Sisters lost a staunch ally of true religious liberty with the death of Justice Antonin Scalia. With the bench now numbering eight, there is a very real likelihood of a 4-4 split. Unless the Court orders the case re-argued, such a ruling would leave in place the lower courts' rulings. Most lower courts have ruled in favor of the mandate — save the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit. This means employers would be impacted differently depending on where they and their employees are located.
          Of course, if the nObamaCare exchanges were as stunningly successful as the administration claims, women could easily find affordable coverage that includes contraception apart from employer plans. In other words, as attorney and U.S. Commission on Civil Rights Member Peter Kirsanow points out, "[T]his is a completely unnecessary fight [the administration has] picked with the Little Sisters."
          Unnecessary for health care, perhaps, but, clearly necessary when targeting religious liberty is the priority. nObamaCare was never about health care. It's always been about control.
          As if to hammer that point home, while the justices were hearing these arguments, nObama was glad-handing with the Cuban dictator who jails Christians on a regular basis.
          Americans were once fed the lie, "If you like your plan, you can keep it." Beware when nObama says the same of your faith.

In a way he is. I've pondered the same question about myself lately while watching supposed conservative and spiritual leaders fall like dominoes, exchanging what they once claimed to believe in for heaven only knows what. Did they sell out like Judas, or did they just lose their way?
.
Truth is, without the presence of a working moral compass, we humans can justify almost anything. If that happens, we're pretty much doomed to a life filled with lots of contradictions, driven by whichever way pop culture's winds might blow. So many are disappointed with some pretty prominent people who once boldly carried the banner of conservatism, but now make a mockery of it with their support for an authoritarian liberal who wouldn't know what conservatism was unless it presented itself in the form of a Victoria's Secret model.

To a degree, it's a losing battle when you read scriptures like II Timothy 3, describing in the "last days" people will have "a form of godliness" and will be "always learning but never able to come to a knowledge of truth." We live in a day when the mainstream of our populous worship the god of secularism, so in their eyes, there's no such thing as absolute truth. Defining "right" and "wrong" is impossible if we claim everything is subjective, based on a continuously moving target.

People care little about substance and are too easily persuaded by whomever sounds most convincing. Politicians take that fact to the bank and use it to garner power and gain votes. And because most people these days have no clue why they believe what they believe (if they believe anything at all), should their beloved leader's compass suddenly turn south, they are likely to follow him like lemmings off a cliff, defending him all the way down until they hit rock bottom.

That's why President nObama got away with saying things proven untrue like: "If you like the plan you have, you can keep it. If you like the doctor you have, you can keep your doctor, too. The only change you'll see are falling costs as our reforms take hold."

That's also why the GOP frontrunner gets away with outrageous statements like: "I could stand in the middle of 5th Avenue and shoot somebody and I wouldn't lose voters," or "He's not a war hero. He's a war hero because he was captured. I like people that weren't captured." Upon hearing those statements, a flashing red alarm should have sounded in the heads of followers, inspiring them to run the other way.

Problem is, though, if we don't know how to identify true north, we'll never know when things go south.

An intriguing NASA article, "Mixed Up in Space," describes how humans become confused and disoriented, "where up and down have no meaning" thanks to zero gravity. Former Space Shuttle astronaut Robert Parker said, "One of the questions they asked us during our first flight was, 'Close your eyes...now, how do you determine up?'" Parker said up and down had completely vanished - when his eyes were closed.

To remedy this, designers of the International Space Station and Space Shuttle put writing on the walls pointing "up" to help astronauts orient themselves in the right direction -- no matter how they felt or what their brains told them.

The writing is on the wall, America. So maybe it's time we open our eyes and reorient ourselves to true north.

Trump was on the verge of having his Chinese made hat handed to him in Utah, which Cruz won on Tuesday night with 69% of the vote and Little Lyin’ Donny, on Monday night, made what now has to be THE dumbest foreign policy statement ever uttered on a campaign trail when he advocated shaking down NATO for money or pulling out of the compact altogether.

Then, Tuesday morning happened and Islamic pigs attacked the home city OF NATO with bombings at the airport and a metro station killing more than 30 and wounding more than 300 innocent civilians.

So…Little Lyin’ Donny did what all liberals do…he launched a distraction by tweeting out a threat regarding Ted Cruz’s wife, Heidi.

Paul! Mr. Speaker! Censure Obama and deny his request for a 18% pension pay hike! Since you came to power earlier this year, your Republican majority in the House has done virtually nothing to rescue our republic from the nightmare of Obama!  Incredibly, his most audacious request for a pay hike follows his watching baseball and playing footsie with Cuban dictators Fidel and Raul Castro, and dancing the tango in Buenos Aires!

Barack is surely no master of the art of the deal. While we support the opening to Cuba, we do not believe we should lift the embargo until some of our demands are satisfied: We are not calling for regime change, but we do call for release of all political dissidents.  We also need to have persuasive proof, not yet provided by the Castros, that Hezbollah’s Islamic, Shiite terrorist station engaged in anti-U.S. and anti-Israel activities in the Western hemisphere has been closed.

We also need assurances and monitoring of Cuban ties with North Korea, to halt any illegal arms transfer through the Panama Canal or by any other route sea or air. We also have to certify that Cuba ceases advising and arming the FARC narco-communist terrorists in Colombia.

Cuba must further guarantee she will not try to interfere on behalf of the discredited Maduro government in Venezuela and hinder the process of democratization in that country.  And let us also demand that U.S. criminals taking refuge in Cuba be extradited to America.

The delusions of our president are unprecedented. As Americans, we were ashamed listening to his a-historical, apologetic cant as he stood with Raul and listened to him detail the "shortcomings" of the United State.  Describing the "constructive dialogue," our president basically provided a public relations endorsement of its repressive communist regime. All this while human rights dissidents, like the innocent Ladies in White were repressed on his arrival; some thrown into in jail.

Yury Pavlov, former head of the Soviet Latin American desk and author of The Soviet-Cuban Alliance, told done of these authors prisoner guards enjoyed shooting live targets, laughing and having a good time.  As one former prisoner wrote, "In order to deal with Castro you have to overlook the fact that Castro is a cold-blooded murderer who approved the death by firing squad of each one of tens of thousands Cubans put to death by his direct orders, including some Americans, whose crime was opposing his reign of terror. You have been insensitive to the more than 500,000 thousand political prisoners, men, women and even children of every race and creed who were tortured in his dungeons, and over thirty thousand who died trying to cross the Florida straits in fragile makeshift rafts in their pursuit of freedom."   

These authors also interviewed former prisoner Pedro Fuentes, who described the tortures he endured in jail.

Then came our president's passionless platitudes after the attack on our allies in NATO capitol Brussels. He knew many Americans were injured in the carnage, yet rather than coming home, he engaged in a pleasurable afternoon with two bloody dictators, responsible for killing thousands of Cuban patriots and innocent victims at home, but also during Cuba’s interventions in Angola and Ethiopia. Fidel also supported with arms and advisers, further carnage in Columbia, Nicaragua, El Salvador and elsewhere.

We call on you, Mr,. Speaker, to sponsor House resolutions as well as work with the Senate and its judicial giants, Senator Ted Cruz (R) Texas, and Senator Orin Hatch (R) Utah, to censure the president for aiding and abetting a foe of democracy -- and roundly propose a cut to his pension, rather than the 18% pension pay hike he has requested. t.

Mr. Obama’s repeated derelictions of duty could provide grounds for impeachment. Likely there is not enough time for that. Therefore let us register our dissatisfaction as we can. We are counting the days until Donald or Ted take over.

The Cuba Archive has documented 3,615 firing squad executions conducted by the Cuban state since Castro took over on January 1, 1959.  Most were done summarily.  There are disappearances as well. Former head of the Soviet Latin American desk, Yury Pavlov, author of the The Soviet Cuban Alliance,1959-61, told one of these authors, that Raul Castro's deputies enjoyed shooting live targets (prisoners) while laughing and having a good time.  In an interview with us, former prisoner Pedro Fuentes confirmed Pavlov's account  and described the torture in the jails.  Another prisoner,Jesus Chao, has fully detailed the stomach-turning,Castro horrors.

 nObamaCare's Six-Year Anniversary  Checkup  On March 23, 2010, Barack nObama signed the "Affordable" Care Act (a.k.a. nObamaCare) into law. It's time we give it a checkup for its six-year anniversary. Via Investor's Business Daily, here are seven of its most significant shortcomings:
          1.) Taxpayers will probably not recuperate $1.2 billion (a figure almost guaranteed to rise) after 12 of nObamaCare's 23 co-ops collapsed. 2.) The federal government distributed $5 billion to the states to help set up their own exchanges, but already $1.5 billion (a figure also bound to increase) of that has been wasted. 3.) Healthcare.gov, the $2 billion federally operated marketplace disaster, "was supposed to be self-financed, [but] nObama wants an additional $535 million to keep it running next year." 4.) Many insurance companies are operating deep in the red, so the White House is "diverting $3.5 billion meant for the Treasury to insurance companies to help cover losses." 5.) About 500,000 fraudulent beneficiaries received roughly $750 million in nObamaCare subsidies. 6.) The IRS needs an additional $881 million to cover the added workload from nObamaCare. 7.) And finally, "An analysis by the American Action Forum concluded that businesses and individuals have spent 165 million hours to comply with nObamaCare's 106 new regulations. In dollar terms, that works out to $45 billion."
          "Add it all up and it comes out to $55 billion," writes Investor's. "And that's being generous to nObamaCare. This figure doesn't count what families forced off health plans they liked had to pay in to buy nObamaCare's  overpriced insurance. Or the adverse impact nObamaCare has had on the labor market. Nor does it count the vast amounts of waste and fraud in Medicaid before nObamaCare vastly expanded eligibility."
          When he signed the bill six years ago, nObama said, "This legislation will ... lower costs for families and for businesses and for the federal government, reducing our deficit by over $1 trillion in the next two decades. It is paid for. It is fiscally responsible. And it will help lift a decades-long drag on our economy." Every year it gets older, it's clear nObamaCare was a huge mistake.  'No Boots on the Ground' in Iraq? 
Did you know there are now 5,000 U.S. troops in Iraq? Barack nObama would certainly rather you didn't realize how many boots were on the ground when he promised there wouldn't be any. A brief history review: Upon withdrawing American forces completely in 2011 — after having rejected George W. Bush's strategy of establishing a status of forces agreement (SOFA) to secure our hard-won gains in Iraq and the region — nObama declared, "Everything Americans have done in Iraq, all the fighting, all the dying, the bleeding, the building and the training and the partnering, all of it has led to this moment of success. … We're leaving behind a sovereign, stable and self-reliant Iraq." All because he kept his promise to end the war there, he'd have you believe.
          Except the U.S. leaving the theater didn't mean the war was over. The Islamic State filled the vacuum he left and now controls much of Iraq and Syria, which it uses to extend its global reach — as we saw yet again this week in Brussels (more on that below).
          nObama is too proud to make much of his stealth escalation. David French, an Iraq veteran, writes, "[T]o change his public message is to admit a series of colossal errors. He thought he could leave Iraq without suffering serious consequences. He was wrong. He thought by turning the page on the Bush era, he could stabilize the Middle East. He was wrong. He thought he could defeat ISIS without a serious escalation and re-commitment to Iraq. He was wrong. He thought he could end the war in Afghanistan. He was wrong."
          That's why nObama hasn't announced or otherwise highlighted that there are 5,000 Americans in Iraq today. Over the weekend, Marine Staff Sgt. Louis F. Cardin became the first casualty in this renewed war. There will be more American blood shed, and it's largely because nObama was so derelict in his duty as commander in chief.   -The Patriot Post

 FBI on Apple Hack: Never Mind 
In a surprise filing ahead of a scheduled court appearance, the FBI announced it might have a way to crack into the iPhone belonging to one of the San Bernardino terrorists without needing to force Apple to compromise the security on its own product. On Sunday, a third party that the FBI swears isn't another branch of the U.S. government (a.k.a. the NSA) demonstrated a method that could possibly crack the phone used by Syed Farook. "Testing is required to determine whether it is a viable method that will not compromise data on Farook's iPhone," government lawyers wrote in their Monday filing. "If the method is viable, it should eliminate the need for the assistance from Apple Inc. ("Apple") set forth in the All Writs Act Order in this case."
          From the beginning, the government said the only way it could access the data in the phone was to compel Apple to give the government a backdoor to the device. However, the fact that it was entertaining third-party advice, listening to unknown members of the tech security world, shows that siccing the All Writs Act on Apple wasn't a move of last resort. It implies that, all along, the FBI simply wanted to change the security landscape in its favor.
          What may be most notable here is that the government fears an unfavorable ruling on the All Writs Act. Most legal analysts think a court would smack down the government's request, setting the opposite precedent from the one sought by the FBI. Notably, four out of five of the locations are air bases: Basa AB in Luzon, Antonio Bautista AB in Palawan, Mactan-Benito Ebuen AB in Cebu and Lumbia AB in rebel-stricken Mindanao. Fort Magsaysay, to the north of the capital of Manila, is the only dedicated ground-force facility. The choices present some interesting possibilities. Basa is home to several Philippine air force tactical strike squadrons and has plenty of room for any potential U.S. Air Force Combat Command components such as fighters and bombers. Mactan near the center of the archipelago holds most of the heavy lift planes of the Philippine air force, and is also co-located with an international airport and the nearby port. The allegations are substantial: most are drawn from findings made by the Treasury Department’s own Inspector General for Tax Administration. The Sixth Circuit reminds us of the insidiousness of the IRS’s underlying behavior: In 2010, the IRS began to pay unusual attention to 501(c) applications from groups with certain political affiliations. I spent an hour looking for my car and calling an attendant who didn't answer the phone. When someone finally answered, she told me my car had been towed. It cost me $350.

At least I could afford to pay to get my car back. California is filled with people who are one traffic ticket away from losing their means of independent transportation. They get a ticket for a busted taillight or a small-change moving violation. On paper, the fine is $100, but with surcharges, it adds up to a lot more. People who cannot pay often do not show up in court -- which drives up the cost. According to the Judicial Council of California, about 612,000 Californians have suspended driver's licenses because they didn't pay fines. In 2013, more people -- 510,811 -- had their licenses suspended for not paying fines than the 150,366 who had lost their licenses for drunken driving.

"For a lot of people, the car is the only asset they own in this whole damn world," noted Mike Herald of the Western Center on Law & Poverty. "When you take their car, you're taking the thing that helps them make money."

Herald is an author of a report -- about how traffic courts drive inequality -- that helped prompt Gov. Jerry Brown to institute an 18-month amnesty program to deliver Californians from a "hellhole of desperation." Under the program, Californians can get their outstanding fines reduced by 50 percent -- or 80 percent if they make 125 percent of the federal poverty level or less. The amnesty program does not apply to parking tickets, reckless driving or drunken driving.

This is one of those issues that unite activists on the left and the right. The Western Center on Law & Poverty sees how the system crushes the working poor. Conservatives also see excessive fines and penalties as backdoor tax increases that lawmakers employ because they don't need to sell them to voters. In December, Grover Norquist, president of Americans for Tax Reform, joined U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch at the White House for an event that lauded the Brown amnesty program.

"We've turned too many of the police into tax collectors and wonder why they don't have strong relations with the community," Norquist said, according to NBC News. When people can't pay fines in California, it means they have to forfeit their licenses. It's deceptive advertising; a $100 fine can front for an extra $390 in add-ons. The price tag can grow exponentially if unpaid and lead to losing one's license.

The penalty is harsh and crushing on the poor, but these fees also are undeserved for the middle class. If Sacramento wants to levy a $490 fine for moving violations, let lawmakers put honest numbers on their legislation -- instead of pretending that the fine is $100. Alas, the Legislature has found that hidden fees are a handy way to finance the court system without voting to raise tax revenue. It's the easy road.

And though judges might claim that they never asked for this system, they have been able to use the threat of driver's license suspension as leverage to make Californians pony up.

The practice of throwing in extra sources of revenue is so ingrained in Sacramento that there is a $50 amnesty program fee. That's right; if you want to pay off unpaid traffic fines that have ballooned because of hidden fees, first you have to pay another albeit smaller hidden fee.

"They're a little tone-deaf," Herald told me. Fellow activists explained that the $50 fee "is a barrier," but to no avail.

If a private corporation advertised a $100 payment for something that really costs $500, California Attorney General Kamala Harris probably would go after the corporation for false advertising. If a credit card company boosted its fees the way the courts do, activists would call the practice usury. If the police yanked people's driver's licenses because they didn't pay a $100 fine, the public would regard such a harsh penalty as excessive force. Yet Sacramento has codified a system that commits all three sins and it's perfectly legal. Really, is there anything more brutal than government on autopilot?

The latest example of that temperament was Trump’s call for a boycott of Fox News’ Megyn Kelly, whose first offense against the Trump ego was to question him vigorously on his attitude and remarks toward women in the first Fox News-hosted debate.

 The Frontrunner's Foreign Policy 
Just last week, Donald slump-Trump mused about his national security team of one, saying of his foreign policy advisers, "My primary consultant is myself." So it was helpful on two occasions Monday to see him delve deeper into what a slump-Trump administration's foreign policy would look like.
          First, in a prepared speech to the American Israel Public Affairs Committee conference, he declared one key aspect: "[My] number one priority is to dismantle the disastrous deal with Iran. I'm a deal-maker, and let me tell you this deal is catastrophic for America, for Israel, and for the whole of the Middle East. Iran is the biggest sponsor of terrorism around the world and we will work to dismantle that reach, believe me. Believe me." Why should we believe him? "I've studied this issue in great detail," he said. "I would say far greater than anyone."
          Second (though before the speech), slump-Trump met with The Washington Post's editorial board. Unlike his off-the-record meeting with The New York Times on immigration, this meeting is public record. A few cuts:
          "I don't think we should be nation-building anymore. I think it's proven not to work. ... You know we have $19 trillion in debt. ... I watched as we built schools in Iraq and they'd be blown up. And we'd build another one and it would get blown up. And we would rebuild it three times and yet we can't build a school in Brooklyn. We have no money for education because we can't build in our own country. At what point do you say, 'Hey, we have to take care of ourselves'? ... NATO was set up when we were a richer country. ... NATO is costing us a fortune, and yes, we're protecting Europe with NATO, but we're spending a lot of money. ... I think NATO as a concept is good, but it's not as good as it was when it first evolved. ... I would knock the hell out of ISIS in some form. I'd rather not do it with our troops."
          slump-Trump certainly represents a growing sentiment in the country after Afghanistan and Iraq. So two points: First, defense spending doesn't drive that $19 trillion in debt; major entitlements do. Yet slump-Trump says those are off the table in terms of saving money. Second, the attack in Brussels — Belgium is a NATO country — made the timing of slump-Trump's comments particularly unfortunate. He's certainly not an orthodox Republican, but that's also exactly what drives his support.  -The Patriot Post

 nObama Goes to Cuba for His Own  Legacy   There hasn't been a sitting U.S. president on Cuban soil since 1928, but Barack nObama kept his promise to go to Cuba in the latest step toward normalizing relations with the island's Communist regime. While nObama seeks primarily to build his legacy, the ramifications of this visit will contribute to it in a way he doesn't intend.
          The trip didn't get off to a good start, either. When nObama disembarked Air Force One at Jose Marti International Airport, Cuban President Raul Castro was not there to greet him, even though the communist thug routinely greets foreign dignitaries at the airport.
          The imagery likewise is terrible. Investor's Business Daily ponders, "As a sycophantic media rolls out the adoring photos and flattering words, it's hard to say what will prove most embarrassing: the picture of President nObama posing in front of a communist cement wall emblazoned with a pop-art depiction of the murderous — and racist — 'revolutionary' Che Guevara, a man who sought to set off a nuclear bomb against the U.S. in the early 1960s? Or the photo of 84-year-old Cuban communist dictator Raul Castro diabolically leering as he lifts the limp wrist of President nObama while he giggles like an unwitting teenager?"
          nObama's trip to Cuba is part of realizing his foreign policy vision, and he hopes that his visit to the brutal regime will "encourage generational evolution." Surely, the Cuban people are hoping for the same, but as long as they live under the brutal rule of the Castro regime there will be little that the minister of hope can change. And nothing nObama has done actually weakened that regime; on the contrary, he has legitimized it.
          One of the topics for conversation with Castro was freedom of speech and assembly. So it speaks volumes that just hours before nObama arrived, the Cuban police broke up a larger than normal crowd of political dissidents known as the Ladies in White and hauled many of them off to detention facilities. That would be the same Ladies in White nObama promised in a March 10 letter to meet.
          Castro effectively denied even holding political prisoners: "Give me a list and I'll release them," he said, adding, "If we have those political prisoners they will be released before tonight ends." They weren't released, and nObama remained silent.
          Worse, on Monday nObama lamely accepted Castro's criticism of the U.S. on human rights: "I actually welcome President Castro commenting on some of the areas where he feels where we're falling short because I think we should not be immune or afraid of criticism or discussion as well." Does nObama mean to imply that he's falling short on jailing dissidents here in America?
          As for free speech for members of the Cuban opposition, The Wall Street Journal's Mary Anastasia O'Grady predicted, "The regime will turn out plenty of compliant Cubans who will tell reporters that the embargo is the source of Cuban poverty." It's all political theater.
          O'Grady further noted, "Yet even if there is a U.S nod to the opposition, there also will be a wink, as the president poses with the dictator along with members of the Colombian terrorist group FARC — invited by Mr. nObama — at a baseball game and pushes for U.S. policies that will finance the totalitarian apparatus. The big lie will be that by legalizing commercial and banking relations with Cuba, the U.S. will empower the Cuban people. The opposite is true."
          In other words, given the backdrop of people with whom nObama will pose, who does he really side with — the Cuban people or the Cuban dictators? The question answers itself.
          As for the embargo, the idea of opening up business with Cuba along with lifting the embargo on trade is a complete reversal of U.S. policy for the last 50 years. This isn't to say the policy has been entirely effective — the Castros are, after all, still in power. Some say nObama's move in a different direction could open the Caribbean island to Liberty via free trade, especially as the young generation learns the value of capitalism.
          Then again, Europe, Latin America, Canada and Asia have been trading with Cuba for decades to no avail.
          nObama claims his visit will reduce tensions between the U.S. and Cuba and bring about change in the region. Given that the Castros are ideological kindred spirits with nObama, however, it's doubtful that the Cuban people will benefit from nObama's display. Recall that nObama's mentor was avowed Communist Frank Marshall Davis, and it's very possible that nObama's desire to renew relations with Cuba will make things worse instead of better for those under Castro's iron fist.
          How so? Consider that if American money starts flowing into the Cuban economy, the Castro regime will undoubtedly use the funds to further solidify its power over the Cuban people. Funding dictators and coddling up to them, whether directly or indirectly, rarely works out well for the advancement of freedom.
          Does anyone really think that nObama is visiting Cuba to help that nation set a path toward freedom? Given his administration's relentless assault on Liberty in our own country, it may be delusional to think so.  -The Patriot Post

But March 16th marks the birthday of probably the second-most important and decent American, James Madison... Madison became our fourth president, but his presidency is not the chief source of his greatness. There would have been an entirely different America without Madison’s enormous input and foresight at the contentious 1787 Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia. There were 55 delegates to the convention. Like Madison, some had a formal college education, while others did not. From Madison’s notes about the quality of the debates and discourse, one could not tell who was college-educated and who was not. Their ages ranged from 26 (Jonathan Dayton) to 81 (Benjamin Franklin), with the average age being 42. Alexander Hamilton was a key figure at the convention. He called for a president for life with total veto power over the legislature. Most other delegates, led by Madison along with John Adams, wanted a republic; none wanted a democracy. Madison, who would become known as the “Father of the Constitution,” argued that in a pure democracy, “there is nothing to check the inducement to sacrifice the weaker party or an obnoxious individual.” Delegate Edmund Randolph agreed, saying, “In tracing these evils to their origin, every man had found it in the turbulence and follies of democracy.” Adams added: “Remember, democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts and murders itself. Or to be more precise, first-person access to the Reagan era through one of its two most important figures has now, with the death of Nancy Reagan, ended. The era itself will never end—it is part of the history of our nation and yielded up its last unambiguously successful president. The spirit of that age: exuberant, expansive. “Where we’re going, we don’t need roads.”

Here we could do comparisons to the current moment, but let’s not. Instead, a mere and affectionate remembrance of the lady we lost.

Stipulated: There was no him without her. He couldn’t have launched or sustained his great project if she hadn’t made him her project. He was thinking about the failure of the latest Soviet five-year plan, and making note of the new statistics on HUD spending. She was thinking about people and their agendas. If you served him well you were in; if not don’t let the door hit you. She was protective. Or, as she would put it, she was looking after her man. Her protectiveness was a patriotic act.

As first lady she was glamorous, meticulous. Everything had to be just so. There was a touching, old-fashioned sense that she wanted whichever visiting king or potentate to see America knows how to do it up right. She believed in fun, too. In the Reagan White House you could smoke, drink and dance, after the more subdued, abstemious Carter years. It was no place for puritans.

Her personality was wry, teasing, loyal, warm and fun. She was my darling friend.
.
In her last five or so years I visited her at the house on St. Cloud Road, in Bel Air, with her beloved longtime friend Robert Higdon. We would sit with her in her sunny bedroom with the peach-colored headboard and the exercise bicycle and the bed tables full of silver framed pictures—she and Ronnie dancing at the state dinner, Ronnie in his last years kissing her on the cheek.

We’d talk about nothing, everything. She had a big laugh, a soft chuckle and a gift for listening. She really heard you, picked up nuance, noted what was unsaid. She took a great and protective interest in the lives of her friends and family, noticed when things seemed off, didn’t avoid troublesome areas but brought them up. That was part of how she showed her care, “bringing it up.”

Gore Vidal said of John F. Kennedy that when he died a whole world of gossip went with him. Nancy loved gossip too, though we didn’t call it gossip but History of Humans. I would save up things going on in New York—who was seeing whom, who was on top of the world, who looked great, who needed a call. Half the time, she’d nod and say, “I heard that”—she had some network—and tell me more than I knew. The other half she’d say: “Really? I think we need to hear more.”

She wasn’t judging or prissy but amused and fascinated. She thought personal disasters a part of life, triumphs welcome good news, human mischief to be expected. She had come of age in a Hollywood where everyone was kind of a big colorful mess. They were rich and famous, sure, but at the end of the day everyone was making it through on a smile and a shoeshine. She liked the comedy of it all.

In her later years she spent a lot of time remembering the past, and sharing it. She watched cable news and was nothing if not current, and her observations of political figures were acute and occasionally piercing. But she took increasing enjoyment in thinking back to the time so-and-so came to the White House, the time they went to Geneva . . .

Afterward I thought: She’s telling herself that it really happened.

No one is the same size as history, no one’s that big. For a half-century history washed over her, and I think when it was over she looked back, or saw the pictures on the bedside—“There we were, dancing at the state dinner”—and thought of those days, “My God. A king was on line one. Ronnie was meeting with the Soviet premier down the hall. . . . That all happened. It couldn’t have happened, it is too big. But it happened.” I think she was, as she looked back, awed by her own life. And of course she had reason to be awed.

Here are two stories, one of steely Nancy and one of Nancy the somewhat mystical.

Steely Nancy: Some years ago we were talking about a Washington friend who was going through a crisis. Some of her struggles had become public, which only compounded her woes. Nancy Reagan got a steely look. You can’t be embarrassed, she said. Everyone in Washington has lost something, everyone’s been embarrassed by a story in the press or humiliated by a public firing or loss of stature. “It is a city of the humiliated,” she said. And she told me to give our friend some advice that was also an order: Get up off the mat.

Nancy the mystic, if that is the right word: In the house on St. Cloud Road you could feel Ronald Reagan all around you. The knickknacks, the pictures, the big Norman Rockwell portrait as you came in—it was a house about him. His office still had his desk and his things on it.

She wanted it that way. The love affair that became the great marriage that became the great partnership was never far from her thoughts. She missed him till the day she died.
.
One day at dusk in November 2013 we were talking quietly as I held her hand at her bedside. She began to talk about Ronnie and how even now he was ever-present to her. Then: “I didn’t believe in the afterlife. I never believed in it, but things have happened since Ronnie died. He visits me.”

“You mean you dream of him,” I said.
.
She got a quizzical look.
.
“I don’t know if it is dreams or what. It sounds funny or crazy, sometimes I wake up at night and he’s in bed next to me and I see him.” Once, she said, she woke in the middle of the night and looked over at the big beige stuffed chair at the bottom of the bed to the left. “You look cold,” she said to him, and went to the closet for a blanket. She draped it over him and went back to bed. The next morning she awoke and looked over at the chair. The blanket, she said, was still there, but moved to the side as if someone had pushed it when he left.

She could not, she said, explain this. Whatever it was, love, she felt, did not just disappear.

“I now believe in the afterlife,” she said.

Europe Surrenders, NATO Nation Attacked

Earlier this week, the mastermind and on-the-loose gunman from last November’s Islamic bru-1.jpg?width=193terrorist attacks in Paris was captured in Brussels where information showed that he was in the process of planning more attacks to be carried out by 7th century barbaric pigs against innocent, civilized people.

Early Tuesday morning, those planned attacks became reality as bombs were detonated at an airport and metro station in Brussels resulting in the deaths, so far, of more than 30 and the wounding of more than 200.

According to Belgian Prime Minister, Charles Michel… “What we feared has happened, we were hit by blind attacks.”

While the events in Brussels are horrible, and while my heart goes out to the families and friends murdered or wounded in the attacks, I cannot bring myself to agree with the Prime Minister.

These were not blind attacks.

The Sorry State of Our Military: Is It Happenstance or Design?

I don’t believe that any of these generals—Paxton, Milley, or Gorenc—takes pride in admitting this sorry state of affairs because it is essentially an admission of failure. Duty nonetheless dictates that they tell it like it is. They’re playing with the hand they were dealt and I doubt anyone else could do it better.

It doesn’t help that their commander-in-chief pretends not to hear what they’re saying. Just two months ago, President Obama delivered a State of the Union address in which he pooh-poohed the very idea that our armed forces are languishing in disrepair. Said Obama: “I told you earlier all the talk of America’s economic decline is political hot air. Well, so is all the rhetoric you hear about our enemies getting stronger and America getting weaker. The United States of America is the most powerful nation on Earth. Period. It’s not even close. We spend more on our military than the next eight nations combined.” (Emphasis added.)

What a dolt. Surely he can’t believe that our military’s combat effectiveness can be measured in dollars spent? The measure of any endeavor is always results. His argument reminds me that, once upon a time, Mr. Obama was just a left-wing community activist. He still sounds like one.

Didn’t President Obama consult his top military leaders before including that remark in his speech? If he had they would have told him what they told Congress last week—namely, that the military is woefully unprepared. If we rule out the possibility that he’s never had such a conversation with the brass then we must conclude that he flippantly dismissed what they told him, probably with the same nifty factoid about military expenditures that he used at the State of the Union. Obama clearly didn’t listen to his advisors because they told him something he didn’t want to hear.

Or is there another possibility? Could it be that this president knows quite well how much the military has atrophied under his administration and he’s pleased with it? In order to prove such a claim definitively I would have to get into his mind to determine his true motives, which I obviously can’t do. There’s nothing in his public statements to indicate a hostility toward the military, though there’s enough anecdotal evidence to indicate a casual disrespect, such as his now infamous latte salute and the completely unreasonable rules of engagement he imposed on combat troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. This is a man with no military experience and it shows.

He’s also the president who opened all combat positions to women. That alone would have been a mistake but of course his administration exerted downward pressure to get women into elite units such as the Army Rangers without actually requiring them to meet standards. After two women “passed” the Ranger course this summer, it came to light that they had received special assistance and unlimited opportunities to reattempt portions of the course that they had failed. “We were under huge pressure to comply,” said one Ranger instructor. “It was very much politicized.”

It seems that Obama likes the military only as a production line for historic “firsts” that he can take credit for. He’s the guy who gave us the first two female Rangers and the first openly homosexual service secretary, Eric K. Fanning. Just last week Obama nominated another “first”—the first female combatant commander, Air Force General Lori Robinson. I’m not necessarily saying that General Robinson is unqualified for the job though the fact that she was nominated by Obama, a man of unspeakably poor judgement, suggests that she’s probably a hot mess. I am however saying that if she’s truly the best candidate for the job then her sex shouldn’t matter. But to Barack Obama, it matters quite a bit because her nomination provided another “first” for his presidential legacy. Isn’t that what the military is for?

If you want to know what Barack Obama thinks about the military, look to the man he claimed as a mentor in his first memoir “Dreams From My Father”—Frank Marshall Davis, a card-carrying member of the Communist Party. Davis first became a member of the CPUSA during the Stalin era, as well as during the time of the Comintern when all communist parties around the globe met periodically in Moscow to receive their marching orders. Davis was a determined opponent of US foreign policy, especially the Marshall Plan and NATO, and he hated the US military which he saw as a global force for evil. To believe that the president doesn’t share even a hint of this hostility toward our armed forces is to say that Barack the protégé learned nothing from Frank the mentor, a conclusion I find plainly absurd.

If that doesn’t convince you, look at some of his other influences, such as his pastor, the anti-American firebrand Jeremiah Wright, as well as his heroes Saul Alinsky, Desmond Tutu, and the communist terrorist Nelson Mandela. Obama has always admired people who hate US military power but we’re supposed to believe that he doesn’t.

Our military has fallen on tough times and it will be up to the next president to rehabilitate it. Whether the harm that has befallen our military is the result of mere neglect or actual malfeasance is difficult to determine though I wouldn’t rule out the latter.

 nObama's Visit to Cuba Will Accomplish  Little   On Sunday, the whole nObama family touched down in Cuba for a historic visit, as this will be the first time in 88 years that a sitting American president visited the island. While there, Barack nObama will visit everyone from Cuban dictator Raul Castro to political dissenters calling for Liberty. However, nObama's visit will have failed if he doesn't condemn Castro's police state.
          Last year, nObama claimed that he was interested in visiting Cuba only if he saw the country making progress towards Liberty. "I'm not interested in just validating the status quo," he said. However, on Friday, the U.S. Coast Guard picked up 18 Cubans who were fleeing the country on homemade rafts, trying to cross the 90 miles between Cuba and Florida. Hours before nObama's jet touched down on communist soil, the Cuban government  arrested 50 protesters from the group Ladies in White for demonstrating and throwing pro-Liberty leaflets into the air. The protests have become a weekly occurrence.
          The dissidents said Cuba's crackdown on political speech has increased in the weeks leading up to nObama's visit, showing that things are just as they have been. The Castros are still in charge, after all. While nObama hoped for a diplomatic shortcut, Liberty could yet come to the country ruled by a police state. It's possible that the flow of goods and information could foster more Liberty for the nation, especially when the 85-year-old Castro leaves power — just as when Ronald Reagan began to trade with the Soviet Union.  Remember the Global Threat of Terror 
First, good news: After a months-long manhunt, Belgian law enforcement captured alleged Paris attacker Salah Abdeslam in a neighborhood of Brussels on Friday. It was a blow to the Islamic State, as it disrupts the group's plans. Abdeslam said he was planning another attack. Now he's a mine of intelligence that interrogators hope to exploit. However, the fact that Abdeslam evaded capture for months shows the extent of the network in Belgium sympathetic to violent jihad.
          Make no mistake: The tentacles of that network reaches into the United States. Late last week, the FBI finally announced the 18-year-old who was killed by police after stabbing four people on the Merced campus of the University of California was inspired by the Islamic State. Faisal Mohammad  carried out a terrorist attack Nov. 4, 2015, despite the stubborn insistence of California law enforcement to the contrary.
          This wasn't the only example of political correctness being destroyed by stark reality over the last few days. The city of Östersund, Sweden, canceled its earth hour celebration over worries that turning off the lights for one hour on Mar. 18 would have encouraged sexual assaults from Muslim migrants.
          Back in the Middle East, the violence continues and even grows. The Islamic State bombed one of Turkey's most popular shopping area Sunday  and, the day before, a U.S. Marine was killed during a skirmish with the terror group. He is officially the first American combat death in fighting with the Islamic State. "There is no safe place in Iraq," said Najim Abdullah al-Jabouri, an Iraqi general. "Even the Green Zone in Baghdad, which houses the U.S. Embassy, is being targeted by rockets." Indeed, we must destroy the nexus of terror before it grows so much that the U.S. becomes the site of a Paris-like mass terror attack by a group the commander in chief still treats as the JV team.  -The Patriot Post

 Diversity Must Be Only Skin Deep 
Leftists sure do love diversity — to a point. Their favored constituencies include blacks, Hispanics and those suffering from gender disorientation pathology. But each member of those groups must yield to leftist group think, or they'll be excommunicated. The thought police were on patrol most recently at Brown University, where Janet Mock, a black transgender activist and author, was forced to cancel an appearance after students objected to the group that invited her. Hillel House is a Jewish group that asked Mock to speak, but a group of Palestinian activists accused Hillel of having "defended and even advocated for the Israeli state's policies of occupation and racial apartheid." Furthermore, the aggrieved students say, Israel is guilty of "colonialism, ethnic cleansing, and genocide of native Palestinians." In a petition, the students complained, "Hillel's Moral Voices campaign has chosen the topic of LGBTQ rights this year. This hides the fact that for decades, the state of Israel and Israeli advocacy organizations (like Hillel) have been engaging in pinkwashing, a strategy that tries to improve Israel's image and rebrand it as a liberal, modern, and 'hip' country."' 
          Mock is hardly alone. Bruce/Caitlyn Jenner has been ridiculed by leftists for generally being conservative politically, but worse, for daring to say nice things about Ted Cruz. No doubt thanks to that backlash, Jenner even felt compelled last week to deny endorsing Cruz.
          And then there's Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas. Rep. Karen Bass (D-CA), who is black, said last month that Barack nObama should nominate a black because "to have an African-American voice that has definitely not been there since Thurgood Marshall would really be an incredible contribution to our country." Thomas is conservative, therefore he isn't "an African-American voice."

Now officials with the Pentagon are admitting that this massive boondoggle is a total bust. One official admitted that to replace the Air Force’s entire fleet, which was the original intention of the F-35 program, they would have eliminate a fifth of their squadrons to afford it. Two generals said that the whole idea of an all-purpose aircraft was flawed from the start, and the Pentagon is already planning a 6th generation fighter jet to replace the F-35. To maintain any semblance of air superiority, the military will be forced to maintain their older weapon systems alongside the F-35 until a replacement is made, which is the ultimate proof that the concept of an all-purpose fighter jet is a complete failure. That was the lament on Twitter of just one poor citizen this week trying to get his tax records in order. Nationwide, hard-working Americans are struggling to meet the April 18 IRS filing deadline. Standing in the way: the bumbling nObamacare bureaucracy.

In Minnesota, an estimated 18,000 people who were on health insurance plans last year offered through MNsure, the state nObamacare health insurance exchange, still haven’t received their 1095-A form. It’s the “health insurance marketplace statement” required to file accurate tax returns and claim the premium tax credit.

Twin Cities officials blame “technical bugs” and promise they’ll be sending more of the documents out next week. But it’s small consolation to farmers in Minnesota who were required to file their taxes by March 1.

“This is the second year in a row MNsure has been late sending my 1095-A form and it’s cost me extra money when I have to file for an extension on my tax filings,” farmer Robert Marg of Winona County, Minnesota, told his local TV station.

In Hawaii, the paper-pushers sent out their 1095-A forms on time — but the documents are worthless to thousands of taxpayers enrolled in the state’s now-defunct nObamacare exchange, the Hawaii Health Connector. According to the Pacific Business News, “approximately 80 percent of the forms sent out to taxpayers” contain errors, including address problems.

The Aloha State is still digging out from the mess the overseers of the bankrupted state exchange made last year, when Hawaii Health Connector staff issued 1095-A forms manually because the bureaucracy did not have a working automated system for creating 1095-As. How many taxpayers were affected? “CMS and IRS have not been able to provide error rates for 2014,” PBN reported.

Citizens trying to get through to the HealthCareGov.com hotline have been trapped in the spiral of “escalation” — Washington-speak for getting the runaround.

Insurer Anthem “said that they called Covered California and reported that I did not have coverage for 2015,” the reader told me. “Then 45 days later, we received a corrected 1095. However, it was not corrected. It was the same 1095 we previously received containing the same mistakes. After being on hold for 40 minutes with Covered California, the person I spoke with said, “Yes, I was not covered in 2015, but no one had gone into the system to generate a corrected 1095 and that I will be receiving the new one within 45 days. Unfortunately, that will be after April 15 when I am due to file taxes. What a nightmare.”

Our Conservative Campaign Committee team has been traveling state to state, boots-on-the-ground campaigning for Ted Cruz in caucuses and primaries. After campaigning for Cruz in Fayetteville, North Carolina, we joined a rally led by Heidi Cruz.

In her speech Heidi shared how Ted fell in love with and memorized the U.S. Constitution as a teenager. Ted also memorized large portions of the Bible. Against all odds, experts and polls, Ted resoundingly won his bid for the U.S. Senate.

Heidi cited her husband's courage. He went to Washington as a Texas Senator fully committed to staying loyal to the Constitution and the voters who sent him. This is why it drives me nuts when I hear clueless voters say Cruz is a part of the problem or Cruz is disliked in DC. I want to yell, “Cruz is not a part of the corrupt system. Cruz is disliked because he is a powerful leader and advocate for We the People who refused to go-along to get-along. Of course, the DC politics-as-usual crowd are going to hate him.”

Folks, as I said, my CCC team and I have been traveling the country attending Cruz rallies. Every time I hear Cruz speak, I think, “Praise God! This is the man we have been praying, longing and waiting for; a president truly committed to fixing all that is wrong in our country, coming out of Washington.”

Each GOP debate has confirmed that no other presidential candidate possesses a better understanding of the issues and has better solutions than Ted Cruz. The best part is Cruz has a proven peerless record of following through with his promises.

Like Ronald Reagan, Cruz continues to outperform the polls and expert opinions. Clearly, Americans have had their fill of our country's downward spiral imposed by Leftist governing. Americans are ready to make a sharp right turn. Cruz will win the general in a landslide. And Lord knows we desperately need Cruz folks. Our country is a mess.

In Nashville, TN, I picked up a local music magazine with an article praising Black Lives Matter. The gist of the article was America sucks for blacks and cops seize every opportunity to murder blacks. News flash: Blacks are murdering each other in record numbers, not cops.

I am black and have witnessed first hand in my family the stifling impact of blacks believing Leftist/Democrats' lies; filling blacks' heads with victim-hood-ism and negativity regarding their remarkable country. The Black Lives Matter movement was founded on the lie that Michael Brown was shot by a white cop while trying to surrender with his hands up. The truth is Brown was shot while assaulting the policeman, trying to take the officer's gun. And yet, the Left/Democrats continue to further the lies to keep blacks believing America is against them and only keeping Democrats in office will keep racist white America a bay. This is pure evil, folks.

Cruz is proud and grateful to be an American and wants to bring us together as Americans; rejecting the obvious benefits of campaigning on the fact that he is Hispanic.

A line in the Bible says “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.” (Hosea 4:6) Man, does this scripture apply to black Americans. Thanks to decades of Democrat deception, far too many blacks are ignorant to the truth that they are blessed to be born in America; the greatest land of opportunity on the planet for all who choose to go for it.

Our CCC team spent a night in Asheville North Carolina. On TV in the hotel lobby was a report about Black Lives Matter attempting to hijack a Trump rally. Democrat presidential candidate Hillary Clinton commented how dangerous Trump is. I spontaneously spouted out loud, “No lady, you're dangerous!”

Folks, this despicable woman played a major role in the deaths of our U.S. ambassador and three other Americans in Benghazi and lied about it. Hillary looked Pat Smith in the eye and lied to the grieving mom about the circumstances which led to the death of her son in Benghazi.

Hillary headed the Bimbo Eruptions initiative to persecute and silence all the women with whom her husband, President Clinton, had a sexual encounter. Hillary sells government access via $250,000 fees for her speeches. Her email scandal is criminal and a major threat to national security. Her arrogance, condescension, superiority, and sociopathic lying are extremely dangerous. As a black American, it is particularly insulting to hear Hillary attempting to sound black when addressing black audiences, trying to fool us dumb colored folks. Everything Hillary and her fellow Democrats say or do is designed to deceive.

Ben Franklin said, “The sting of rebuke is the truth.” Folks, I can hardly wait to see Ted Cruz sting Mrs Clinton's derriere with the truth all over that debate stage. It is time that the American people see this corrupt, evil and sociopath presidential candidate, Hillary Clinton, for who she really is.

Ted Cruz is a huge blessing; a breath of fresh air. Honest. Straightforward. Cruz promises to rescind Obama's thousands of job-killing regulations. He also promised to repeal the disastrous ObamaCare.

Remember how the questioning seemed to always revert back to Hillary’s emails?

We may now have a somewhat clearer insight into that.

As I have previously posted, here in The National Patriot, the two investigations, Benghazi and the email investigations have converged. It is growing increasingly difficult to separate one from the other and things aren’t looking good for Hillary as a result.

During that Benghazi hearing, one of the key components seemed to be one Sidney Blumenthal and his emails both sent to and received from Hillary Clinton regarding Benghazi. Many people, our readers included, were somewhat and rightfully curious as to why Hillary’s emails and those of Blumenthal seemed to be of such importance to the Congressional committee investigating Benghazi.

Well…another piece of the puzzle seems to have fallen into place.

The question that was the last straw involved a venture by Mrs. Communist to the Maricopa County Jail tent city in which she appears to have attempted to bypass Sheriff Arpaio and wander around on her own. Arpaio joined her and invited her to come inside and take a look around, allowing her to speak with the inmates and answering her questions. It’s his jail and she’s a high profile political individual. What he extended was a common courtesy that Arpaio says has been shown to four other candidates previously. Sanders lost his composure when the reporter asked, “Your wife was criticized for meeting Sheriff Joe Arpaio at tent city. It wasn’t scheduled, she didn’t plan it but he showed up. My question is, would you… Sanders interrupts, saying, “Let me just tell you something, you know, what Joe Arpaio is doing is an outrage.  My wife went to look at the so-called tent city, which is something that should not exist. Our national debates over the death penalty, gay rights, abortion and a host of other topics are often powerfully related to faith. The disputes that the court litigates so often start when people feel that their right to freely exercise their religion has been restricted or their religious values have been violated.

In Merrick Garland's 19 years on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, cases related to religious freedom have come across his docket several times. Garland's rulings do not reveal a pattern that would indicate what guiding principle he might bring to the Supreme Court, if he manages to make it through the Senate. But they do invite curiosity.

In four cases that The Washington Post identified Wednesday, Garland sided twice against people who said they were victims of religious discrimination, and twice in favor.

• Case 1: Are prisoners entitled to Communion wine?
.
In the earliest case, in 2002, Garland sided with two federal prisoners who claimed their First Amendment right to freely exercise their religion was being violated in prison. Prison rules forbade the men from consuming wine, though their supervising chaplain could have wine during Communion. The prisoners said they had a right to consume the wine for religious purposes.

The lower court had turned down the prisoners' complaint, saying consuming the Communion wine is not an essential aspect of Catholic religious practice. But the three-judge panel that heard the case on appeal, including Garland, said a religious practice does not need to be mandated by the religion to qualify for First Amendment protection. It said the lower court was wrong and sent the case back to that court to hear it again.

The Post asked Jay Wexler, an expert on church-state law at Boston University, to review the four rulings. Wexler called the Communion case the most interesting of Garland's judgments on the topic of religious freedom. But he also said it should have been an easy call.
.
"That case is mildly pro-religious freedom, although the lower court was so clearly wrong that I don't know if much can be made out of the D.C. Circuit's reversal," he wrote in an email.

• Case 2: Does an employer have to let a worker avoid shifts on Sunday?
.
Garland wrote the court's opinion in 2010 siding with another person who claimed she was a victim of religious discrimination.
.
He ruled in favor of Cassandra Payne, an Interior Department employee who drove a tractor at Rock Creek Park from 1984 to 2000, until she suffered a nearly fatal allergic reaction to a bee sting. Her supervisors reassigned her to a different job so that she could work indoors - but they changed her old Monday-to-Friday schedule to Wednesday to Sunday.

For four years, Payne asked to work weekdays so that she could attend church and Bible study, Garland wrote. Then she filed a complaint alleging religious discrimination. An administrative judge found that the Interior Department had indeed discriminated against Payne based on her faith.

But the fight continued, all the way up to Garland's court, where he interpreted the law in Payne's favor.

• Case 3: Did the Navy discriminate against chaplains from some Christian denominations?
.
Garland came down on the opposite side in 2004, voting against Navy chaplains who felt that they were being discriminated against on the basis of their denominations.

The Chaplaincy of Full Gospel Churches, an organization that endorses Christian chaplains, said its chaplains were being passed over for promotions. It sued the Navy, asking for the release of confidential information about the selection process.

Garland voted not to compel the Navy selection board members to talk about the process.

Wexler said Garland's differing choices on the Interior Department worker and the Navy chaplains weren't inconsistent and didn't say much about how Garland feels about religious freedom. "They involve claims of religious discrimination, but they are really about procedural issues," Wexler wrote.

• Case 4: Is the Affordable Care Act's contraception mandate unfair to religious nonprofits?
.
By far the most closely watched of these cases, Priests for Life v. United States Department of Health and Human Services, is now set for a Supreme Court argument next week. Bundled with six other cases that all address the question of contraception coverage, it is one of the most highly anticipated Supreme Court cases of the term. And on its way to the high court, it passed through Garland's courtroom.

The case focuses on the mandate under the Affordable Care Act that employers provide contraception to employees. Religious employers can opt out of providing contraception directly, but Priests for Life argued that even opting out is too burdensome, because the government ensures that the employees still have access to contraceptives.
.
That mandate, Priests for Life argued, violates the 1993 Religious Freedom Restoration Act - the same law often discussed nationwide when wedding photographers or cake bakers say it would violate their religion to cater to a gay wedding.

In May, Garland voted in the majority in the 6-to-3 Court of Appeals decision to deny an en banc hearing, which would have been heard by the whole court. That denial meant that the earlier decision, against Priests for Life, stood - for now. The Supreme Court will have its say soon.

"Priests for Life is of course an incredibly important case," Wexler emailed, "but Garland didn't write anything separately on it. He simply voted to deny rehearing en banc, which doesn't say much of anything about his views on the case, other than that he didn't think the panel opinion denying the Priests' religious freedom claim was clearly wrong."

One of the most oft repeated things I hear from Trumpoholics is that their candidate will sww-1.jpg?width=118clean up the lobbyist corruption in Washington because he, Trump, can’t be bought.

I find it quite interesting that someone who has literally financed the corruption in Washington for decades is the one the Trumpoholics say can end it. In fact, Trumpoholics also often spout off regarding their opinion that Ted Cruz is part of the Washington establishment which would put Cruz in league with the ilk of Mitch McConnell and John McCain and the Trumpoholics pin their blind following to the guy they say is the anti-establishment candidate.

Oh really?

The fact is, Donald Trump has, as recently as 2014, financed the establishment ilk of McConnell and McCain in the attempt to end the Tea Party.

While the Trumpoholics condemn the establishment and the corruption of bought and paid for politicians in Washington…they, for some unfathomable reason, blindly follow a candidate who has personally bought and paid for political favors from Washington’s political cartel as well as financed attempts to squash the very movement designed to rid the Washington’s cartel like hold over We the People.

But let me get back to the lobbyist thing…
