US–Iran Talks End Without a Deal. Vice President JD Vance said Iran hasn’t clearly committed to forego nuclear weapons!-Posted on The Epoch Times-By Ryan Morgan-On April 12, 2026:

U.S. and Iranian delegations closed out peace talks in Islamabad, Pakistan, on April 12, without a deal.

Vice President JD Vance, who led the U.S. delegation in the talks, said the Iranian delegation has declined to accept a set of U.S. terms for a lasting peace.

“We have been at it now for 21 hours, and we’ve had a number of substantive discussions with the Iranians. That’s the good news,” Vance said. “The bad news is that we have not reached an agreement, and I think that’s bad news for Iran much more than it’s bad news for the United States of America.”

The Islamabad talks began on April 11, four days after President Donald Trump agreed to a two-week ceasefire with Iran. The temporary truce has already proven contentious.

Vance said the stumbling block in the Islamabad talks has been Tehran’s refusal to commit to forego nuclear weapons.

“The simple question is, do we see a fundamental commitment of will for the Iranians not to develop a nuclear weapon, not just now, not just two years from now, but for the long term. We haven’t seen that yet. We hope that we will,” Vance said.

Iranian state media said the U.S. terms had been excessive. State media said Iran’s nuclear rights and control over the Strait of Hormuz were among the points of contention

Before the April 7 ceasefire, Tehran had submitted a set of its 10 terms for a lasting peace. Those terms included the acceptance of some degree of uranium enrichment.

Trump has not agreed to Iran’s 10-point peace proposal, but referred to the terms as a “workable basis” to continue negotiations when he accepted the April 7 ceasefire

As he closed out the Islamabad talks, Vance said, “We’ve made very clear what our red lines are, what things we’re willing to accommodate them on, and what things we’re not willing to accommodate them on.”

US Begin Hormuz Minesweep

On April 11, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced it had sent two guided-missile destroyers, USS Frank E. Peterson and USS Michael Murphy, through the Strait of Hormuz to sweep for mines that Iranian forces had dispersed in the narrow waterway.

“Today, we began the process of establishing a new passage and we will share this safe pathway with the maritime industry soon to encourage the free flow of commerce,” CENTCOM commander Adm. Brad Cooper said in a press statement on Saturday.

Though Iranian forces have agreed to stop attacks on ships in the Strait of Hormuz since agreeing to a two-week ceasefire on April 7, Iranian forces have taken issue with the activity of the two U.S. warships.

“Permission to transit, in accordance with specific regulations, is granted exclusively to non-military vessels,” Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy said in a statement shared through state media on Saturday.

Tehran has sought to exercise continued control over the Strait of Hormuz as one of its 10 conditions for a long-term peace deal.

US Won: Trump

Trump declared U.S. victory over Iran on Saturday, even as peace negotiations continued in Pakistan.

“Regardless what happens, we win. We totally defeated that country,” the president told reporters before departing Washington for Miami. “We’re in very deep negotiations with Iran. We win regardless. We’ve defeated them militarily.”

Trump touted the destruction of Iran’s air force and air defenses, as well as Iran’s seapower. He also acknowledged U.S. efforts to clear the Strait of Hormuz of leftover Iranian mines during the ceasefire and ongoing negotiations.

“We'll open up the strait, even though we don’t use it, because we have a lot of other countries in the world that do use it, that are either afraid, or weak, or cheap,” he said.

Israel Will Keep Fighting: Netanyahu

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in an X post on April 11 that “Israel under my leadership will continue to fight Iran’s terror regime and its proxies.”

Israeli forces have continued to strike Iran-backed Hezbollah fighters in Lebanon since April 7, including with ground combat forces in southern Lebanon.

Tehran was quick to object to Israel’s continued military operations in Lebanon after the April 7 ceasefire.

When he announced the ceasefire in an X post on April 7, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif wrote that “the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States of America, along with their allies, have agreed to an immediate ceasefire everywhere including Lebanon and elsewhere, EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY.”

Vance contradicted Sharif’s characterization of the ceasefire, saying a “legitimate misunderstanding” had occurred, but that the ceasefire Trump had accepted with Iran simply didn’t include Lebanon.

The Netanyahu government has signaled a willingness to discuss a ceasefire with Lebanon, and the U.S. State Department has offered to host the talks as early as next week.

Trump says Navy will blockade Strait of Hormuz after ceasefire talks with Iran ended without a deal!-Posted on The Washington Times-By John T. Seward, The Washington Times-On April 12, 2026:

President Trump said Sunday the Navy will blockade the Strait of Hormuz after ceasefire talks with Iranian representatives in Pakistan ended at an impasse this weekend.

Mr. Trump posted on Truth Social that Navy vessels will blockade the strait, saying that U.S. service members will “interdict every vessel in International Waters that has paid a toll to Iran.”

The president also posted that the U.S. is prepared to continue its joint campaign with Israel against Iran, saying troops are “LOCKED AND LOADED” to “finish up” if Tehran does not concede its ambition for a nuclear weapon.

“Effective immediately, the United States Navy, the Finest in the World, will begin the process of BLOCKADING any and all Ships trying to enter, or leave, the Strait of Hormuz,” Mr. Trump posted. “The Blockade will begin shortly. Other Countries will be involved with this Blockade. Iran will not be allowed to profit off this Illegal Act of EXTORTION.”

The president’s move further mires transit through the strait, which Iran effectively closed shortly after the start of the U.S.-Israeli air campaign on Feb. 28. As much as 20% of the world’s petroleum is transported through the strait each year.

Mr. Trump emphasized that Iran’s desire to pursue a nuclear weapon was the key issue to end the war and that U.S. presence in the region will continue until Iran concedes that point.

Vice President J.D. Vance said the ceasefire negotiations collapsed early Sunday over what he described as Iran’s refusal to abandon its path to a nuclear weapon. Iranian officials blamed the U.S. without pointing to specific points of negotiation.

The 14-day ceasefire is set to expire April 22, with neither side addressing next steps publicly. Mr. Trump praised Pakistani mediators in his social posts, saying that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Asim Munir, the country’s chief of staff of the army, had praised him over the U.S. intervention in conflict between India and Pakistan.

Iranian parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf, who led Iran in the negotiations, said it is time for the United States “to decide whether it can gain our trust or not.”

Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said his country will try to facilitate a new dialogue between Iran and the U.S. in the coming days.

“It is imperative that the parties continue to uphold their commitment to cease fire,” Mr. Dar said.

There has not yet been any announcement by the U.S. or Iran on whether talks would resume.

There’s a classic scene in “Hoosiers” where the interim coach offers to help Gene Hackman’s character. Hackman declines, and the coach delivers one of the most memorable lines in sports movie history:

“There’s two kinds of stupid in this world. One is the kind where a man gets naked and barks at the moon in the middle of the woods. The other is the man who does the same thing in my living room.”

Well, the ayatollahs in Iran have officially moved from the woods… to the living room.

And the problem is—they don’t seem to know it.

Because if you look at what’s happening right now in the negotiations involving the United States, Iran, and intermediaries like Pakistan, you don’t see strategy.

You see a regime that has completely misread the moment.

For decades, Iran’s leadership has operated under a very specific assumption: that every American president ultimately behaves the same way. Tough talk, red lines, then retreat. Pressure, followed by accommodation. Escalation, followed by relief.

They’ve watched it play out since Carter. They saw it under Obama—where red lines vanished and pallets of cash showed up on runways. They’ve learned to stall, posture, and wait out the storm. And so they assumed this would be no different.

That was their first mistake. Because this president is not that guy.

Recent reporting makes clear that negotiations—some of them routed through regional players like Pakistan—are happening alongside sustained pressure that is not easing. The strategy is not complicated: compress the regime’s options until it has to choose between survival and stubbornness.

That’s not theoretical diplomacy. That’s leverage. And leverage changes behavior—if the people across the table are smart enough to recognize it.

That’s where the ayatollahs are failing.

Because even as their position weakens—militarily, economically, diplomatically—they continue to act as though they are dictating terms.

They stall. They reject. They posture. They delay. And in doing so, they reveal something that should alarm anyone watching closely: They don’t understand the room they’re in.

This is not the familiar negotiating table where time is their ally and American resolve is temporary. This is a narrowing corridor. Every delay costs them more. Every rejection isolates them further. Every miscalculation reduces their already shrinking leverage. And yet, they continue as if the old playbook still applies.

That’s not strategy. That’s the second kind of stupid.

Now, to be fair, their confusion is not entirely self-generated. They’ve been trained—by years of inconsistent Western responses—to believe that endurance equals victory. That if they simply outlast the moment, the pressure will dissipate and the world will move on. But that assumption no longer holds.

And what makes this even more remarkable is that some of the president’s critics here at home still haven’t figured that out either.

We’ve watched the same pattern play out again and again. Underestimate him, dismiss him, assume he’ll follow the same tired script—and then watch as he bulldozes straight through it.

The ayatollahs are making the exact same mistake. They are treating this like a normal negotiation. It isn’t.

Internally, their regime is under strain. Years of economic mismanagement, corruption, and repression have eroded public trust. Waves of protests—especially among younger Iranians—have made it clear that the population is not nearly as compliant as the regime pretends.

Externally, their influence is weakening. The networks they built through proxies and intimidation are under pressure. Regional actors are recalculating. Isolation is no longer a distant threat—it’s an active reality.

And now, in the middle of all of that, they are being presented with a choice. Adapt… or absorb the consequences.

Instead, they’re stalling.

It would be almost comical if it weren’t so consequential. Because history is filled with regimes that behave this way in their final chapters. They misread strength as bluff. They interpret restraint as weakness. They assume the future will look like the past.

And then, suddenly, it doesn’t.

That’s the moment they’re in right now.

They walked into a living room thinking they were still alone in the woods. They assumed the same old tricks would work. They believed the same old patterns would hold. But the room has changed. The stakes have changed. And the man across from them is not playing by the old rules.

So, yes, there are two kinds of stupid in this world.

And right now, the ayatollahs are demonstrating—on the global stage, in real time—which kind they’ve chosen to be.

The only question left is whether they realize it before the consequences finish teaching the lesson for them.

Pope Leo’s ties to Iran cloud his judgment!-Posted on The Washington Times-By Cheryl K. Chumley, The Washington Times-On April 10, 2026:

OPINION:

Pope Leo, in what church watchers are describing as unprecedented and historic, recently issued public condemnations against the White House’s military operation against Iran, even going so far as to call out by name President Donald Trump.

But lest we forget: The Holy See — the government of the Catholic Church, headed by the pope himself — has maintained full diplomatic relations with Iran since 1954. The United States, on the other hand, broke off diplomatic ties with the regime in 1980, shortly after dozens of Americans were seized at the U.S. Embassy in Tehran and held hostage for 444 days.

On Iran, it’s not Trump who’s out of line.

It’s Pope Leo.

His vision is cloudy. His judgment is tainted. And the fact Leo’s come out publicly to denounce Trump and America only calls into question his ability to discern true evil from good — or to at least support good over evil.

This is what he said in response to Trump’s warning of attack on Iranian power plants and infrastructure and accompanying remark that “a whole civilization will die” if the regime didn’t reopen the Strait of Hormuz — a remark, by the way, Trump made as an expression of sadness over the consequences of the regime’s stubbornness and not, as the media have painted it, as an outright threat to eradicate a whole people — but nonetheless, this is what Leo said by way of a reaction: “There are certainly issues of international law here, but even more so a moral issue for the good of the whole, entire population.” He also said Trump’s words were a “threat against the entire people of Iran” and that it was “truly unacceptable.”

Leo also said in his Palm Sunday message that God “does not listen to the prayers of those who wage war, but rejects them.”

And now the world is a-twitter.

The Associated Press, in Newsmax, put it this way: “While it’s not unusual for popes and presidents to be at cross purposes, it’s exceedingly rare for the leader of the Catholic Church to directly criticize a U.S. leader, and Leo later named Trump directly and expressed optimism that the president would seek ‘an off-ramp’ in Iran.”

Leo should stick to the business of the church and let Trump take care of the business of U.S. foreign policy, American government and commanding the military against an enemy that has for decades sought the nation’s destruction, both in word — “death to Israel, death to America” — and deed. Since the Islamic Revolution in 1979, the regime has been responsible for killing, kidnapping and injuring more than 1,000 Americans. Meanwhile, money continues to flow from the hands of terrorist Iranians into those of proxy terrorists who have then waged attacks against innocent American citizens.

The war against the United States is real.

Iran’s terror against America and U.S. allies is real.

So’s this: “The Bond Between the Vatican and Iran” — a headline from RealClearReligion in 2016 over a story that reported the “strategic partnership” that’s long existed between Iran and the pope.

Yes, that relationship is being tested. As EWTN Vatican just wrote in January, “Iran’s Crackdown Strains Diplomatic Ties With the Vatican.” But curiously, the strain is not due to Iran’s terrorism against American citizens, or Israelis citizens, or its funding of terror around the world.

“The Holy See and Iran have had a continuing dialogue in recent years. But the killing of large numbers of Iranian demonstrators by government forces is causing grave concern inside the Vatican,” EWTN wrote.

How about the grave concerns Iran causes around the world because of its Islamic quest to dominate, to subjugate, to destroy?

For answer — consider this: “The bond between the Vatican and Iran is destined to endure,” Crux wrote in 2016.

That speaks volumes.

The Holy See likes to pretend the pope is an impartial observer — that, as EWTN wrote, the church’s government “will likely not take a clear stance on events in Iran” and instead, focus simply on a “more human-rights-respectful environment.” But this is not what Leo is doing when he calls out Trump’s threats as “truly unacceptable” during an active wartime situation aimed at ridding the world of an evil.

Instead, Leo gives the appearance of favoring one side over another. 

Worse, with diplomatic ties between the Holy See and Iran still intact, even now, even amid the U.S.-Israeli joint effort to take down the regime, he gives the appearance of bowing to evil and emboldening evil, and of actually choosing evil over good.
