America’s two-hundred-fiftieth birthday is an apt time to separate those who disdain this country from those who thank God for having been born here.

I notice that the major “faces” representing the corporate news machine have decided to use this magnificent anniversary as a time for “reflection” about all the different ways the country and its people have somehow let those “faces” down.  Instead of considering what an amazing melting pot of people have contributed to America’s greatness, the “faces” lecture us about enduring racism that is supposedly identical to the slavery that existed before the Civil War.

Instead of appreciating how innovators and producers transformed the United States into the wealthiest nation that has ever existed, the “faces” talk about material inequality and the “virtues” of collective ownership.  Instead of marveling at the supreme intellectual gifts of our Founding Fathers, the “faces” bemoan the absence of black, “trans” women at the Declaration’s signing.

It is odd that the people whose wealth and fame would be possible in no other country in the world find it so easy to ignore their historical debts.  Were it not for the providential arrival of a George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Alexander Hamilton during the consequential decade of America’s birth, there would be no talking heads on CNN today.

Instead of generating paroxysms of rhetorical outrage over “racism,” “sexism,” or “transphobia,” America’s sesquicentennial is an opportune year for our most privileged “elites” to get down on their knees, thank their lucky stars, and pray.  Although many no doubt bent a knee for George Floyd, few appear to be grateful for either their good fortunes or God’s continued blessing of this great nation.

What does it say about those people who spend all their time criticizing a nation that has done more to secure the blessings of human liberty than any other on Earth?  Slavery was real.  Jim Crow was real.  So was Jefferson’s declaration of self-evident truths: “that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.”

White men once owned black slaves.  Some six-hundred-fifty thousand white men — roughly 2% of America’s population — died fighting in the Civil War.  Americans have fought and bled against each other and against the armies of oppressive governments around the world to advance the cause of human freedom.

No nation has sacrificed so much so that strangers might be free.  Anybody alive today who fails to appreciate the service of those who stepped into the choking smoke and muddy rivers of blood for the cause of someone else’s liberty is too vain and petulant to be worthy of American soldiers’ mortal offerings.

If America’s “elites” spent as much time reading the Declaration of Independence as they do talking about “haves” and “have-nots,” “oppressors” and the “oppressed,” whites and blacks, they might realize that there is much fertile American ground to sow the seeds of patriotic love and grow what indubitably unites us.  The Founders’ civic virtue and love of liberty gave this country strong foundations.  When fierce winds collapse the shrubs of other nations, America stands like the strongest oak.

When will the university professors, journalists, and pundits realize that they are part of a dwindling social clique obsessed with race?

When American soldiers reach out to save a brother, they do not care what color of skin covers the hand reaching back.  Americans fight and die for other Americans.  Americans sacrifice lives with families so that other families are never told that their loved-ones were left behind.  And the ones who do the sacrificing, fighting, and dying never stop to think about race.  The call goes out that an American is in trouble, and Americans of every color — united by common heritage — volunteer to rescue Americans of every color.

Who could look at America’s greatness from beyond its borders and not marvel at the ideals for which America’s people fight and the feats its people have accomplished?  Was this not the story of the poor immigrant journeying to America’s shores at the turn of the twentieth century?  Is it not true of so many who wish to become American today?  Why are the hearts of America’s “elites” so darkened with self-loathing that they remain incapable of feeling the historic greatness of the very land most of the rest of the world would love to call home?

It is vexing that the month of June has been colonized for so-called “LGBTQ pride.”  We reside in a nation that should be proud of so much.  Its political ideals, economic growth, technological achievements, cultural influence, and historic rise are unparalleled.

Its people — the descendants of explorers, settlers, frontiersmen, and adventurers — are courageous and brave.  Its triumphs vastly outweigh its failures.  It remains the most consequential country on Earth and the only one that can inspire foreign peoples from foreign lands to emulate its noble spirit and deeds.

Should one feel a strong heartbeat when “The Star-Spangled Banner” plays, that natural pride springs from the hard work and determination of all the American generations that came before us.  That pride was hard-earned.  It glitters in the sun today only because our American ancestors built the roads, bridges, dams, towns, and cities that have taken us from the Mississippi River to the dark side of the moon.

Deprived of America’s accomplishments, the “LGBTQ” crowd would have nowhere to crow.  Their “pride” is insular and selfish.  Their “rainbow flag” is small next to Old Glory.  Their self-adulation and self-worship are vulgar when laid next to the selfless heroism and stoic sacrifice of all the Americans who have traded their lives so that this generation might be strong.

The “LGBTQ” preeners pay tribute to themselves, but Americans who deserve to be proud have paid tribute to their families, towns, and country.

It’s a good year to take stock of American greatness.  It’s a good year to think about all the Americans who built, expanded, and defended this country.  It’s a good year to remember that the Founding Fathers’ political convictions were not of their time but for all times.

Self-government and personal freedom are not “patriarchal.”  They are achievable pursuits.  Civic virtue is not “parochial.”  It is inspirational.  Patriotism is not “toxic,” “racist,” or “white supremacist.”  It is the fount of heroic sacrifice.

We Americans have seen and done more than most because the Americans who came before us saw and did more than most.  It is in this tradition — whereby one American generation grabs the baton from the one before and pushes forward — that American Exceptionalism becomes the standard that reshapes the world.

The spectators in the crowd do not merely see the next runner with fresh legs; they see the tired runner who refuses to slow down.  They see the American who persists despite outrageous odds.  They shake their heads and unknowingly grin as they recognize something alluring and astonishing that makes America uniquely great.

Those who do not recognize what a tremendous honor it is to live here are unworthy of America’s gifts.  Those who criticize America’s past from luxurious perches built by America’s past builders are unwise.  Those who celebrate themselves rather than our American ancestors are unprincipled.

In the two-hundred-fiftieth year of this nation’s life, reach down and grab its soil.  Breathe its air.  Enjoy the essence of this country’s history and the indomitable spirit of its people.

Those who love this country will protect its future.  Those who wish to destroy this country love only themselves.  Patriots, pay no heed to the destroyers.  Be builders instead.

Here's Iran's Reported Response on Deal, and Trump's Reply Is Blunt!-Posted on RedState-By Nick Arama-On May 10, 2026:

The Iranian regime has finally sent back its response to the U.S. on the question of a peace deal. But with Iran, you have to know going in that they are giving you something that looks like movement, while having a whole lot of "gaps" in the meantime, as the Wall Street Journal phrased it. 

I'll put in the proviso that until the U.S. officially confirms details on anything that was in the proposal, this is a report on what it supposedly says. According to the WSJ, the response doesn't "resolve the U.S. demand for commitments in advance on Iran's nuclear program, and its stockpile of enriched uranium." 

Instead, it's proposing ending the fighting and a gradual opening of the Strait of Hormuz and lifting of the U.S. blockade. That is followed by talks about the nuclear issue for over 30 days. They're proposing having some of their highly enriched uranium diluted and the rest transferred to a third-party country. 

Iran says they're willing to stop enriching uranium, but for a shorter period than the 20-year moratorium the U.S. wants. They are also rejecting the dismantling of their nuclear facilities. 

So there's some movement in there, but there's also a lot hanging out in the wind. And they're still appear to be playing this "release us from the blockade" before getting to the nuclear promises, which isn't going to work, if this is true. 

They're not honest actors, so how could you even be sure you got it all? Maybe our intelligence knows how much they have, but you would have to be sure of that. And what third-party country, and could you trust them? Not to mention the other issues like proxies and ballistic missiles. 

What this really means is that the blockade is really hurting them.

The exact proposal doesn't appear to be public, but the terms likely include lifting oil sanctions, lifting the blockade on the Strait of Hormuz, and Iran forfeiting its nuclear-enriched materials.

“We’ll get that at some point,” Trump, 79, told TV’s “Full Measure with Sharyl Attkisson” in an interview that dropped Sunday. “We have it surveilled. You know, I did a thing called Space Force, and they are watching.

“If somebody walked in, they can tell you his name, his address, the number of his badge,” he said of the technology’s capability. “We have that very well surveilled. If anybody got near the place, we will know about it, and we’ll blow them up.”

The nuclear material has been the main aim of the negotiations with the regime. We can go in and get the material, but it's a more involved, risky mission, and the U.S. has been trying to get it through negotiation. I think Trump was trying to reduce the risk to American lives, but if they don't come around, he's got a plan ready to go. 

But ultimately, as Trump said in this interview, it's hard to rely on what the regime says because they aren't honest actors. 

Trump acknowledged the difficulties of negotiating with Iran because “they make a deal, and then they break it.

“They’re militarily defeated. In their own minds, maybe they don’t know that, but I think they do, because I deal with them. And we cannot ever let Iran have a nuclear weapon,” the president said.

Now, this statement from Trump is likely to freak out the regime. They have to worry if it's true and what else he might be watching. And I wonder if Trump is pulling something else on them here, to stampede them into moving things, so it's easier for us to grab. We've seen him feint before during Operation Epic Fury. Or he may be trying to move them more toward complying with a peaceful deal. 

Either way, the regime can't be sitting easy on the question, and he intends to get the nuclear material. They know we have access to intelligence on all their leaders, so our intel is not a capability or power they want to underestimate. 

Meanwhile, as we noted, they have been miscalculating and misbehaving, attacking ships and their allies with drones. They've been trying to run the U.S. blockade, and that hasn't gone well for them. They even ended up seizing a ship shipping their own oil, in a hilarious move. None of their options has been going well. 

So action is coming in regard to their attacks that they aren't going to enjoy, and the clock is running out on their window for a deal.

WASHINGTON/CAIRO, May 9 (Reuters) - A state of relative calm prevailed around the Strait of Hormuz on Saturday, after days of sporadic flare-ups, as ​the United States waited for Iran's response to its latest proposals to end more than two months of fighting and begin peace talks.

U.S. Secretary ‌of State Marco Rubio said on Friday that Washington expected a response within hours. But a day later, there was no sign of movement from Tehran on the proposal, which would formally end the war before talks on more contentious issues, including Iran's nuclear program.

With U.S. President Donald Trump due to begin a long-awaited visit to China next week, there has been mounting pressure to draw a line ​under the conflict, which has thrown energy markets into turmoil and posed a growing threat to the world economy.

Recent days have seen the biggest flare-ups in ​fighting in and around the Strait of Hormuz since a ceasefire began a month ago, and the United Arab Emirates came under ⁠renewed attack on Friday.

CLASHES TEST CEASEFIRE

On Friday, there were sporadic clashes between Iranian forces and U.S. vessels in the strait, Iran's semi-official Fars news agency reported. The Tasnim news ​agency later cited an Iranian military source saying the situation had calmed but warning more clashes were possible.

The U.S. military said it struck two Iran-linked vessels attempting to enter an ​Iranian port, with a U.S. fighter jet hitting their smokestacks and forcing them to turn back.

Tehran has largely blocked non-Iranian shipping through the strait since the war began with U.S.-Israeli airstrikes across Iran on February 28. Before the war, one-fifth of the world's oil supply passed through the narrow waterway.

The U.S. imposed a blockade on Iranian vessels last month. But a CIA assessment indicated Iran would not ​suffer severe economic pressure from a U.S. blockade of Iranian ports for about another four months, according to a U.S. official familiar with the matter, raising questions over Trump's leverage ​over Tehran in a conflict that has been unpopular with voters and U.S. allies.

A senior intelligence official characterised as false the "claims" about the CIA analysis, which was first reported by the Washington ‌Post.

Clashes extended ⁠beyond the waterway. The UAE said its air defences engaged with two ballistic missiles and three drones from Iran on Friday, with three people sustaining moderate injuries.

Iran has repeatedly targeted the UAE and other Gulf states that host U.S. military bases. In what the UAE called a major escalation, Iran stepped up attacks this week in response to Trump's announcement of "Project Freedom" to escort ships in the strait, which he paused after 48 hours.

Trump said on Thursday the ceasefire, announced on April 7, was still holding despite the flare-ups, while ​Iran accused the U.S. of breaching it.

"Every ​time a diplomatic solution is on the ⁠table, the U.S. opts for a reckless military adventure," Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said on Friday.

U.S. PURSUES DIPLOMACY, STEPS UP SANCTIONS

The U.S. has found little international support in the conflict. After meeting with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Rubio questioned why Italy and other ​allies were not backing Washington's efforts to reopen the strait, warning of a dangerous precedent if Tehran were allowed to control ​an international waterway.

Speaking in ⁠Stockholm, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said European countries shared the aim of stopping Iran from getting nuclear weapons and said they were working to bridge differences with Washington.

While pursuing diplomacy, the U.S. also ratcheted up sanctions to pressure Iran.

Days before Trump travels to China to meet President Xi Jinping, the U.S. Treasury on Friday announced sanctions against 10 individuals and companies, including several ⁠in China ​and Hong Kong, for aiding efforts by Iran's military to secure weapons and raw materials used to build ​Tehran's Shahed drones.

Treasury said in a statement it was prepared to act against any foreign company supporting illicit Iranian commerce and could impose secondary sanctions on foreign financial institutions including those connected to China's independent oil ​refineries.

What to know

• Iran is still considering the U.S. proposal relayed through Pakistani mediators.
• The terms of the deal have not been disclosed to the public.
• President Trump threatened to restart bombing campaigns if Iran rejects the deal.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Friday that Washington anticipates a response from Iran on the proposed U.S. peace deal by the end of the day.

Speaking to reporters in Italy, Mr. Rubio was scant on details but said the public should know something more about Iran’s response by the end of the day.

“We should know something today,” Mr. Rubio said. “I hope it’s a serious offer. I really do.”

Iranian officials said Thursday they were still considering the U.S. proposal, which was relayed through Pakistani mediators earlier this week. The terms of the deal have not been made public.

President Trump has threatened to restart a massive bombing campaign on Iran if it does not agree to the deal, which could provide a framework for comprehensive negotiations to begin.

His comments come after U.S. and Iranian forces traded fire Thursday in a serious threat to the already fragile ceasefire between the two nations. The United Arab Emirates also said it was intercepting Iranian drone and missile attacks on Friday.

Iran said it launched attacks on U.S. vessels traveling in the Strait of Hormuz after Central Command forces allegedly attacked an Iranian oil tanker earlier this week.

CENTCOM said its forces shot down several Iranian missiles, drones and small boats that attacked U.S. warships. The U.S. also struck at Iranian military facilities in retaliation.

Days after President Donald Trump and War Secretary Pete Hegseth argued that the April ceasefire with Iran reset the 60-day War Powers clock, the U.S. and Iran are exchanging fire once again.

On Sunday, President Trump announced Project Freedom, in which U.S. Navy ships and aircraft would guide commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz after having swept for mines in recent weeks. Obviously, it’s an effort to break Iran’s blockade of the Strait and restore commerce, particularly oil (which would reduce gas prices here in the States). Within 24 hours, U.S. Central Command declared “an enhanced security area” on the Oman side of the Strait, but Iran responded by firing on multiple ships.

The U.S. quickly sank seven Iranian boats, and Trump warned that Iran would be “blown off the face of the Earth” if it fights back against efforts to open the Strait. Hegseth asserted that the Iranians “don’t control the Strait.”

The United Arab Emirates announced that Iran had fired upon one of its tankers, as well as launching a drone attack on its Fujairah Oil Industry Zone. In response, the UAE will coordinate with the U.S. and Israel, which could be a major new development in the war effort.

As for the U.S., the president wants to maintain a posture of strength. “We have more weapons and ammunition at a much higher grade than we had before,” Trump said. “We have the best equipment. We have stuff all over the world. We have these bases all over the world. They’re all stocked up with equipment. We can use all of that stuff, and we will, if we need it.”

Trump’s clear hope is that he can economically strangle Iran, but the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, which maintains real power in the nation, is not exactly in tune with the economic struggles of the Iranian people. That doesn’t mean the IRGC won’t resist efforts to reopen the Strait, the blockade of which is its only real remaining leverage against the U.S. and Israel. As one IRGC commander put it, “We warn foreign armed forces, particularly the US aggressor army, that if they attempt to approach or enter the Strait of Hormuz, they will be attacked.”

So far, Trump seems up to the challenge. He doesn’t hold all the cards yet, but he’s awfully close. And though Iran’s current regime won’t concede much of anything at the negotiating table, Trump has avoided accepting concessions the way Barack Obama and Joe Biden so readily did. Unlike his predecessors, he knows the mullahs are not to be trusted.

Americans are losing patience with our own economy and with Trump personally, but despite the Leftmedia’s best efforts to misinform, 74% of Americans — including 60% of Democrats — believe we’re winning the war with Iran.

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — The United States will launch an effort on Monday to “guide” stranded ships from the Iran-gripped Strait of Hormuz, President Donald Trump said, giving few details about what could be a sweeping effort to help hundreds of vessels and some 20,000 seafarers.

Trump said in a social media post on Sunday that “neutral and innocent” countries have been affected by the Iran war, and “we have told these Countries that we will guide their Ships safely out of these restricted Waterways, so that they can freely and ably get on with their business.”

“Project Freedom” would begin on Monday morning in the Middle East, Trump said, adding that his representatives are having discussions with Iran that could lead to something “very positive for all.”

U.S. Central Command said the initiative would involve guided-missile destroyers, more than 100 aircraft and 15,000 service members. The Pentagon did not immediately answer questions about how they would be deployed.

Iran’s effective closure of the strait, imposed after the U.S. and Israel launched the war on Feb. 28, has shaken global markets.

Ships and seafarers, many on oil and gas tankers and cargo ships, have been stuck in the Persian Gulf since the war began. Crew members have described to The Associated Press watching intercepted drones and missiles explode over the waters, and running low on drinking water, food and other supplies.

Many sailors come from India and other countries in south and southeast Asia.

“They are victims of circumstance,” Trump wrote, and described the effort as a humanitarian gesture “on behalf of the United States, Middle Eastern Countries but, in particular, the Country of Iran.” But he sounded a warning: “If, in any way, this Humanitarian process is interfered with, that interference will, unfortunately, have to be dealt with forcefully.”

Trump’s statement was quickly shared by some Iranian outlets, which described his announcement as a “claim.”

Trump spoke hours after Iran said it was reviewing the U.S. response to its latest proposal to end the war and made clear these are not nuclear negotiations. The fragile three-week ceasefire appears to be holding.

A cargo ship is attacked near the strait

Earlier Sunday, a cargo ship near the Strait of Hormuz said it was attacked by multiple small craft, the British military’s United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations center reported. It was the latest in at least two dozen attacks in and around the strait since the Iran war began, and a reminder of the risks if the new U.S. effort goes forward.

All crew on the unidentified northbound cargo ship were safe after the attack off Sirik, Iran, east of the strait, the British monitor said. Iranian officials have asserted that they control the strait and that ships not affiliated with the United States or Israel can pass if they pay a toll, challenging the freedom of navigation guaranteed by international law.

Iran denied an attack, the semiofficial Iranian outlets Fars and Tabnak reported, and said a passing ship had been stopped for a documents check as part of monitoring.

It was the first reported attack in the area since April 22. Tehran has effectively closed the strait by attacking and threatening ships, and the threat level in the area remains critical.

Iranian patrol boats, some powered only by twin outboard motors, are small, nimble and hard to detect. Trump last month ordered the U.S. military to “shoot and kill” small Iranian boats that deploy mines in the strait.

The British military monitor also said Sunday that ships near Ras al-Khaimah, the northernmost emirate in the United Arab Emirates and close to the strait, reported receiving radio warnings to move from anchorages. It was not clear who sent the VHF messages.

Iran reviews US response to its latest proposal

Tehran is reviewing the U.S. response to its latest proposal to end the war, Iran’s judiciary Mizan news agency cited Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei as saying.

But “at this stage, we have no nuclear negotiations,” Baghaei said. Iran’s nuclear program and enriched uranium have long been the central issue in tensions with the U.S., but Tehran would rather address it later.

Iran’s proposal wants other issues resolved within 30 days and aims to end the war rather than extend the ceasefire, according to Iran’s state-linked media. Trump on Saturday said he was reviewing the proposal but expressed doubt it would lead to a deal.

Iran’s 14-point proposal calls for the U.S. lifting sanctions on Iran, ending the U.S. naval blockade of Iranian ports, withdrawing forces from the region and ceasing all hostilities, including Israel’s operations in Lebanon, according to the semiofficial Nour News and Tasnim agencies, which have close ties to Iran’s security organizations.

Pakistan’s prime minister, foreign minister and army chief continue to encourage the U.S. and Iran to speak directly, according to two officials in Pakistan who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media. Pakistan hosted face-to-face talks last month and has passed messages between the two sides.

Iran stands firm on Strait of Hormuz

Trump has offered a plan to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, where about a fifth of the world’s trade in oil and natural gas typically passes, along with fertilizer badly needed by farmers around the world and other petroleum-derived products.

Tehran “will not back down from our position on the Strait of Hormuz, and it will not return to its prewar conditions,” Iran’s deputy parliament speaker, Ali Nikzad, said earlier Sunday.

The U.S. has warned shipping companies they could face sanctions for paying Iran in any form, including digital assets, to transit the strait safely.

Meanwhile, the U.S. naval blockade since April 13 is depriving Tehran of oil revenue it needs to shore up its ailing economy. The U.S. Central Command on Sunday said 49 commercial ships have been told to turn back.

“We think that they’ve gotten less than $1.3 million in tolls, which is a pittance on their previous daily oil revenues,” U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told Fox News on Sunday. He said Iran’s oil storage is rapidly filling up and “they’re going to have to start shutting in wells, which we think could be in the next week.”

Before boarding Air Force One in South Florida late on Saturday, Trump told reporters that a 14-point proposal authored by Iran’s leaders and sent to the U.S. via Pakistan intermediaries would soon be under his personal review.

Pres. Trump Says War Powers Act Is Unconstitutional – and He Has No Intention of Following It!-Posted on RedState-By Bob Hoge-On May 1, 2026:

Friday is the supposed 60-day deadline for Trump to ask Congress to authorize continued military action in Iran, but he didn’t do so for two reasons

1. He considers the War Powers Act of 1973, which requires a commander in chief to get congressional approval or a formal declaration of war 60 days after notifying Congress that hostilities have broken out, to be an unconstitutional constraint on presidential power,

And

    2. According to him, the conflict has not actually lasted 60 days because a ceasefire has been in effect since April 7, and he considers the war all but “terminated.”

President Trump is apparently not going to abide by the 60-day limit for a president to get congressional approval for a war.

"Let me just tell you, on the war powers, so many presidents, as you know, have gone and exceeded it," Mr. Trump said while departing the White House for Florida on Friday. "It's never been used. It's never been adhered to. And every other president considered it totally unconstitutional. And we agree with that."

He said in a Friday letter to House Speaker Mike Johnson (LA-04) that, despite not asking for authorization, he’s been working with Congress all along and will continue to do so to keep the American people safe:

"But we're always in touch with Congress. But nobody's ever saw it before. Nobody's ever asked for it before. It's never been used before. Why should we be different?"

He's done what he's required to do, he argued:

Trump outlined the administration's position in a letter to House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., on Friday, saying he had acted "consistent with my responsibility to protect Americans and further the national security and foreign policy interests of the United States."

The letter, submitted under the War Powers Act, detailed the timeline of the operation and noted that a ceasefire has been in place since April 7, but did not seek congressional authorization to continue the conflict. He noted the hostilities that began Feb. 28 "have been terminated."

The Left and the media are already enraged over this latest Trump maneuver, but we’ll just have to see in the upcoming days if there’s anything they can do about it besides posting angry tweets. For now, at least, the president is snubbing his nose at their interpretation of the Act and his responsibilities under it — and he didn’t sound like a man who would undergo a change of heart anytime soon, even if hostilities do resume.
