Washington has also reduced its diplomatic and military presence across parts of the Middle East, while Israel has reportedly pressed for faster action against Iran.

Yet a diplomatic opening remains. Iran says it is willing to resume negotiations under a Pakistan-brokered agreement, provided Washington lifts its naval blockade.

Here are seven warning signs pointing to the risk of a wider confrontation.

US intelligence warns of advanced Iranian attack plots

An October 23 intelligence memorandum to Secretary of State Marco Rubio warned that Iran had substantially intensified efforts to target American personnel in the Middle East and elsewhere.

According to Axios, which first reported the document, US intelligence assessed that Iranian plots to carry out lethal attacks against American citizens had reached advanced stages.

NBC News subsequently reported that a US official confirmed the memorandum’s authenticity.

The warning did not identify specific targets, attack methods or countries outside the Middle East where the alleged plots were developing.

The assessment suggests Washington is concerned not only about conventional military retaliation but also possible attacks against Americans beyond active conflict zones.

However, the reported intelligence does not establish that an attack is imminent.

Washington reduces troops and diplomatic personnel

The United States has been quietly reducing its military presence at bases across the Middle East, NBC News reported, alongside adjustments to diplomatic staffing.

The moves resemble precautionary withdrawals undertaken before the US-Israel war against Iran began in February.

Washington has ordered non-emergency diplomatic personnel and family members to leave Saudi Arabia following escalating attacks by Iran-backed Houthi forces.

The State Department has also confirmed temporary staffing reductions at embassies in the UAE, Qatar, Jordan and Lebanon.

Unlike Saudi Arabia, those missions remain under restricted operations rather than a new ordered-departure designation.

Reducing personnel can limit American exposure to possible attacks, although such precautions do not necessarily indicate that new military strikes have been authorised.

Trump threatens another military operation

President Donald Trump has again raised the possibility of attacking Iran if Tehran fails to reach an agreement with Washington.

Speaking on Friday, Trump referred to another operation resembling the US military campaign known as Operation Epic Fury.

“We may do another little Epic Fury. Or they’ll agree,” Trump said.

His remarks followed reports that senior American military commanders had presented options for renewed strikes against Iranian facilities.

Trump has not publicly announced a decision to launch another operation.

Nevertheless, his comments suggest military pressure remains central to Washington’s approach as efforts to negotiate a broader agreement remain stalled

US warships prepare as new targets emerge

US naval forces are preparing for possible renewed strikes against Iran, with sailors loading munitions and readying aircraft aboard American warships, The Wall Street Journal reported Saturday.

The preparations reportedly include the USS George Washington aircraft carrier strike group.

Meanwhile, NBC News reported that American military officials had presented options involving strikes against entrances and tunnels at deeply buried Iranian nuclear facilities, including Pickaxe Mountain.

Other possible targets include Kharg Island, a critical hub for Iranian oil exports, and Qeshm Island in the Strait of Hormuz.

Both islands have considerable strategic importance. Kharg is central to Iran’s crude exports, while Qeshm lies near one of the world’s busiest energy shipping routes.

Strikes against such locations could disrupt oil supplies and commercial shipping, with consequences extending across the Gulf and international energy markets.

The reported preparations indicate military readiness, but they do not establish that Washington has decided to attack.

Israel presses Washington for earlier strikes

Israel has reportedly urged the United States to accelerate plans for renewed military action against Iran.

CNN reported that Israeli officials had pressed Washington for earlier strikes, but their efforts had so far been unsuccessful.

The reported discussions suggest differences over the timing of another operation.

While Israel has sought faster action, Washington continues to consider military options alongside diplomatic efforts.

Any renewed US-Israeli campaign could also raise the possibility of Iranian retaliation against regional military installations, shipping routes and other strategic facilities.

For now, there is no confirmation that Washington has agreed to Israel’s preferred timetable.

Houthi attacks heighten Gulf security concerns

The growing confrontation comes as Iran-backed Houthi forces intensify attacks against Saudi Arabia, creating another potential flashpoint.

The attacks prompted Washington to order non-emergency diplomatic personnel and family members to leave the kingdom.

The State Department has warned that the hostilities could rapidly spread beyond the immediate area.

Repeated attacks have heightened concerns about the vulnerability of airports, energy installations and other civilian infrastructure.

For Gulf countries, the danger is that renewed US-Iran fighting could overlap with the Houthi campaign, placing additional pressure on regional air defences and critical infrastructure.

Commercial shipping could also face renewed disruption if hostilities expand around the Strait of Hormuz or other important maritime routes.

Iran’s leadership holds talks amid growing pressure

Iran’s judiciary announced Saturday that its chief, Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei, had held a rare meeting with Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei.

According to AFP, they discussed public rights, corruption and efforts to seek compensation for damage attributed to US-Israeli military operations.

Mojtaba, who succeeded his father after the elder leader was killed in February’s opening strikes, has yet to make a public appearance since assuming power.

No video of the meeting was released, and its timing and location were not disclosed.

Iran’s chief negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf was also reported to have met the supreme leader earlier in the week to discuss developments in the war.

The meetings indicate consultations within Iran’s leadership, although no direct connection to the latest American military preparations has been established.

Iran's position

Despite the military preparations, Iran says it remains open to negotiations under a Pakistan-brokered interim agreement reached in June.

Iran’s ambassador to Islamabad, Reza Amiri Moghadam, said Saturday that Tehran had conveyed its willingness to reopen the Strait of Hormuz if Washington lifted its naval blockade of Iranian ports.

Speaking at a seminar in Islamabad, he accused Trump of rejecting the proposal and prolonging the diplomatic deadlock, the Associated Press reported.

Pakistan and Qatar helped broker the June agreement, which sought to restore shipping through the strait, lift the American blockade and begin negotiations over Iran’s nuclear programme.

Moghadam also said Tehran would examine a defence agreement involving Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkey before deciding whether to support it.

The agreement, signed following renewed Houthi attacks, has been described by its members as defensive and not directed against Iran.

The diplomatic signals offer a possible alternative to renewed fighting, even as Washington strengthens military readiness.

The central question is whether the United States and Iran can bridge their differences over the naval blockade and the Strait of Hormuz before another military confrontation unfolds.

CAIRO — Many Iranians are bracing for a return to all-out war as Israeli and U.S. leaders sharpen their threats ahead of elections in both countries in the coming days, and as Iran’s leaders remain defiant despite mounting pressure.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who faces a close vote Tuesday, says Iran’s leadership must be eliminated. U.S. President Donald Trump vows to “finish the job” in Iran eight months after the war began, as a third aircraft carrier and thousands of troops make their way to the region. Some fear attacks just after the U.S. midterms on Nov. 3.

The Associated Press spoke with Tehran residents who described growing anxiety. Some were preparing to leave the capital. Iran’s president has accused the U.S. of disrupting negotiations that have shown little sign of progress for months.

Fereshteh Hajipour, 35, the mother of a toddler, said she was stockpiling over-the-counter medicines and food for fear of a “possible war and bigger bombs.”

Iran threatens new targets as it feels growing economic pain

Iran’s leadership believes that Trump likely will order new strikes regardless of the results in the midterm elections, and “they are planning for the scenarios so they can take remedial measures,” said a former government official and foreign policy professor at the University of Tehran, Sasan Karimi.

“They’ve accepted that he will attack us again, before or after the elections,” Karimi said.

Iran has again threatened U.S. military bases and allies in the Middle East, and has warned that it could attack new targets, including undersea data cables that snake through the Strait of Hormuz. This month has seen the highest number of reported attacks on commercial ships transiting the strait since the war’s opening weeks in March.

Meanwhile, a U.S. naval blockade of Iranian ports has restricted oil exports on which Iran’s government depends, increasing the economic pain as each side tries to outlast the other. Trucks have piled up at borders as Iran’s trade shifts to overland.

The blockade has caused medicine shortages in Iran, though there is no sign of shortages of food or other essential goods. Iranians have seen livelihoods and purchasing power crumble as their currency’s value has reached record lows, losing much of its value in the past year. Inflation has soared.

Iranian officials have accused the U.S. of aiming to foment unrest.

“Economic warfare is the main axis of the war against us,” Iran’s parliamentary chief and lead negotiator in past rounds of talks with the U.S., Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf, told a gathering of officials this month.

President Masoud Pezeshkian said Iran faces “a dangerous turning point” as the government seeks to manage growing economic problems and find consensus within the Islamic Republic’s fractious power structure.

Memories are fresh of the nationwide protests sparked by economic pressures that led to a deadly crackdown weeks before the war.

A supermarket trip can eat up half a month’s salary

Even for middle-class Iranians, affording basic groceries has become difficult. Prices for staples have risen steeply since the war began. Rice is over 60% more expensive, and beef over 150%.

Mohammad Mohammadi, 36, said a trip to the supermarket can burn through half a monthly mid-range salary of 400 million rials (roughly $150).

Despite the high prices, Mohammad Abedi, 39, said the rising attacks on the Strait of Hormuz spurred him to buy extra supplies for his family, including dried dates, cooking oil and rice.

“I’m worried that the situation could get worse,” he said.

Political moderates are calling for a deal with the U.S. to salvage the economy.

“With the increase in the exchange rate, the conditions for governing the country have become difficult for the executive branch,” warned politician Mohsen Hashemi Rafsanjani in an editorial this month in the reformist daily Saazandegi.

But economic pressure won’t change Iran’s negotiating positions, said Karimi, the former official who served under Pezeshkian. “This is a tested thing. No economic pressure will convince people here to make a deal.”

Karimi added: ⁠⁠“Tehran is calculating based on resistance, because they are convinced that will change the calculations of the other side.”

There has been little said publicly about negotiations via mediators after Trump rejected an Iranian proposal last month to end the war and fully open the Strait of Hormuz within a week if Washington met certain conditions like lifting the blockade.

Some Tehran residents are preparing to leave the city

Tehran is dotted with bombed-out buildings from U.S. and Israeli strikes during the height of the war in March and April. Thousands of homes were damaged or destroyed.

Hashem Vajdani, 45, a gym trainer, said he plans to leave the city as anxiety grows.

“I have already packed my belongings to go to a safer town in the north of the country,” he said. “Today I bought more canned food, crackers and extra blankets.”

There are concerns that new fighting could bring a higher toll for Iranian civilians. Thousands have been killed in the war. Trump has repeated threats to take out power plants and other infrastructure.

Anger at the U.S. president has found expression in a billboard set up days ago at a major Tehran square. Passersby have gawked at a Trump impersonator languishing behind bars as footage airing behind him shows a deadly strike on a wedding party in southern Iran that was blamed on the U.S.

Staring up at the cage, Farzaneh Arabzadeh, 30, said she hoped the scene would happen in reality. Trump said he launched the war to help Iranians, she said, but he “put our people in a worse situation.”

The elections in Israel and the U.S. are expected to reflect voters’ anger over the war and other issues. Trump’s political support could be weakened, while Netanyahu is in a tight race at a time of anger over Hamas’ Oct. 7, 2023, attack, and a series of inconclusive wars in Gaza, Lebanon and Iran.

Israel’s elections are especially important, Tehran-based analyst Rahman Ghahremanpour said. If Netanyahu stays, there is a higher chance of all-out war resuming because of his willingness to take major risks, he added.

Tehran residents said neither election is likely to improve relations.

“It makes no difference. Their hostility toward us remains unchanged,” said Rasool Ghanbari, 50.

The White House ruled out American strikes before November 3 but left open the possibility of renewed military action afterward.

“The United States will not be attacking Iran at any time prior to the midterm elections,” White House spokesperson Anna Kelly said Thursday.

The report also disclosed that plans for renewed strikes were discussed during War Secretary Pete Hegseth’s unannounced visit to Israel on Monday, when American and Israeli officials exchanged new intelligence, according to one Israeli source.

The proposed targets include petrochemical facilities central to Iran’s oil industry and nuclear installations such as the heavily fortified Pickaxe Mountain complex, which NBC News had previously identified as a potential target.

One Israeli source said the current plans did not include attacks on civilian infrastructure such as power plants.

Hegseth had publicly signaled that readiness Tuesday, saying American forces could resume operations if Trump gave the order.

“We’ve done historic devastation to their military capabilities, but if they’re not willing to give it up and the president asks to go even further — we’re prepared,” he told reporters.

While Trump has publicly emphasized preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has gone further, directing Israel’s military and intelligence agencies to pursue the overthrow of Tehran’s ruling regime.

“There is only one way to remove this threat once and for all: overthrow the regime in Iran,” Netanyahu declared Wednesday. “And that is my directive to the IDF, the Mossad, and the security branches.”

The Israeli sources described regime change, rather than a negotiated settlement, as Netanyahu’s principal objective, while emphasizing that Trump alone would decide whether the United States participates in renewed joint strikes.

Iranian officials have threatened a broader war in response to renewed strikes, warning that American infrastructure throughout the region could become a target.

In an interview with Drop Site News, Iran’s Supreme National Security Council secretary, Maj. Gen. Mohsen Rezaei, specifically threatened American communications cables, data centers, and artificial intelligence facilities.

“The United States has valuable assets in the region. In the event of war, cables, data centers and artificial intelligence facilities could also come within range,” Rezaei said.

“If the conflict begins again, we will have a broader plan,” he warned.

Separately, Mohammad-Saleh Jokar, chairman of the Iranian parliament’s Internal Affairs Committee, urged authorities to authorize nuclear weapons in the event of another American attack.

“I ask the Islamic Republic’s authorities – in defence of the country and for the purpose of deterrence – to permit the use of deterrent weapons, including nuclear weapons, in the event of a US attack on Iran,” Jokar said, according to Iran International.

He also called for suspending Iran’s obligations under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty if the United States launches another offensive.

Iran also showcased its attack-drone production Thursday, broadcasting footage of Arash drones being manufactured as Army Chief Maj. Gen. Amir Hatami touted expanded production facilities and substantial reserves of unmanned weapons.

Iranian state media claimed the Arash drones had undergone major upgrades, including an increase in warhead capacity from 50 to 100 kilograms, improved targeting systems incorporating artificial intelligence, and development of a jet-powered variant.

Despite the detailed military preparations, Trump has not authorized another offensive, leaving the decision over whether to resume strikes — and how far Washington is prepared to go — in the president’s hands.

A small group of U.S. national security officials has been discreetly advising state governments and congressional lawmakers on how to prepare for the possibility that the Trump administration will attempt to interfere in November’s midterm elections, according to people involved in the effort.

The group includes about 10 current and former officials with experience in the Defense Department, some of whom have previously focused on countering authoritarianism abroad.

Their efforts are motivated not by political bias, they say, but a growing sense of alarm that President Donald Trump will harm American democracy by undermining the integrity of the vote to keep the Republican Party in power.

Over the past several months, the group has consulted with officials from 10 states, including governors, election officials and members of the House and Senate from both political parties who share a fear of federal intervention, two people involved in the effort said.

The effort, which has not been previously reported, focuses on states and jurisdictions where tightly contested races will determine control of Congress for the remainder of Trump’s presidency. Members of the group remain in contact with congressional staffs, and at least one state has continued to meet with them as it works to address potential vulnerabilities.

“All of them have said we’re concerned but we don’t know what to do,” one member of the group said of its meetings with lawmakers.

“The outcome that we hope for is that states would be prepared for any contingencies should they arise,” the person continued.

This report is based on interviews, conducted over several months, with two officials involved in the effort. They spoke on the condition of anonymity and that the lawmakers and state leaders with whom the group has met not be identified either, for fear of retaliation. The Washington Post also reviewed some of the documents the group prepared for its meetings.

Trump has long claimed that a “deep state” of government officials is working to undermine his presidency. Since returning to office, he has undertaken an expansive effort to fire career civil servants and solicit political loyalty from the bureaucracy.

Lauren Bis, a White House spokesperson, dismissed the group’s concerns and blamed Democrats for not supporting stricter election laws.

The Trump administration, she said in a statement, “is taking decisive action to protect our elections including prosecuting election crimes, strengthening election infrastructure security, and protecting vulnerable voters from fraud and coercion.”

The president, Bis added, “is making clear that anyone who illegally votes in our elections will be held accountable.”

In their discussions ahead of the midterms, the national security officials have detailed ways the Trump administration could use its federal powers to sway the upcoming vote, covering categories that include legal and illegal activity. Among their concerns are that the administration could deploy troops or immigration agents to polling stations or seek to nullify results based on claims of voter fraud.

Their meetings with lawmakers have mainly focused on raising awareness, especially among Republicans, of the potential for interference and on counseling them to be prepared to publicly oppose any such efforts. With state governments, they’ve focused more on how to harden election protocols that could be exploited by the federal government, the two members of the group said.

Their warnings are based on personal analysis of the administration’s activities and public statements made by the president and his allies — not access to specific government intelligence or information to which they have access because of their positions within federal agencies, members of the group said. They described the meetings as a way to help state and federal officials secure the election and emphasized that their work has occurred outside of their official capacity as government employees.

Still, their efforts indicate an extraordinary level of concern that Trump may use his authority to influence the election or challenge the results, similar to his extended campaign to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election that culminated with a raid on the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.

Trump’s approval rating is at record lows only weeks ahead of the Nov. 3 midterms, with voters frustrated about the cost of living and the war in Iran. Democrats appear likely to flip the House and possibly the Senate, and have vowed to intensify oversight of the administration if they regain power.

Election officials, including some Republicans, have decried efforts by the Trump administration to assert federal control over a process that the Constitution entrusts to the states. Some GOP-led states, such as Utah, have refused to comply with the administration’s efforts to access their voter rolls.

“The threats that we’re getting now are mostly from our own government,” Utah Lt. Gov. Deidre Henderson told The Post earlier this month.

In January, the FBI raided an election office in Fulton County, Georgia, and seized voting materials in an investigation tied to Trump’s debunked claims of voter fraud in the 2020 election. Trump told the New York Times in an interview earlier this year that he regretted not having the National Guard seize voting machines during that race.

As he has campaigned on behalf of Republicans, Trump has repeated his claims about the 2020 election and that Democrats are attempting mass voter fraud ahead of the midterms. In October, a group of nongovernmental organizations sued the administration, alleging that it unlawfully collected voting data from 47 states.

Throughout the year, he has unsuccessfully urged Congress to pass an election security bill — the SAVE America Act — that would give the federal government more authority over the voting process. The GOP-controlled Senate has not done so, as passing the bill would require ending the chamber’s 60-vote threshold known as the filibuster.

Trump and some of his top Cabinet officials also have declined to rule out the possibility that they will send members of the military or immigration agents to polling stations, alarming Democrats.

During a combative Senate Armed Services Committee hearing in late April, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth was asked whether he would refuse a presidential order to deploy troops to the polls or to collect voting machines. He dismissed the question, posed by Sen. Elissa Slotkin (D-Michigan), as a “hypothetical.”

When the committee’s Republican chairman, Sen. Roger Wicker (Mississippi), urged Hegseth to provide a response, the secretary said, “I’ve never been ordered to do anything illegal, and I won’t.”

In August, Gen. Dan Caine, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, wrote to Slotkin and said that there were no plans to deploy troops to the polls or seize voting records.

The Pentagon did not respond to a request for comment.

In September, Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin declined to rule out the possibility of deploying immigration agents to the polls. Speaking to reporters, Mullin said that they would appear only if there were “specific threats” and that such agents wouldn’t “patrol” voting sites.

A spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security said that Immigration and Customs Enforcement “is not planning operations targeting polling locations” and would only do so if an “active public safety threat endangered a polling location.”

At other times, Trump and other senior officials have attempted to use the powers of their office to sway voters to support Republicans. The president has promised voters a $5,000 reward if the GOP maintains its majority in Congress, and he has used taxpayer money to air campaign-style ads ahead of the midterms.

The precautions some states are taking against potential federal interference in the midterms signal a radical departure from the threats that state governments normally focus on in an election year. Foreign actors such as China and Russia have long sought to influence or disrupt U.S. elections, and continue to do so ahead of the November midterms, the U.S. intelligence community has assessed.

Tammy Patrick, the chief program officer at the National Association of Election Officials, said that over the past year the possibility of federal interference has become the dominant concern of election officials she has spoken to around the country.

State and local officials, for example, have been rehearsing how to respond if a federal agent appears at a polling place to compel access to ballots or voting machines, she said.

Other officials, Patrick said, have been concerned about moves the Trump administration has already taken.

Since returning to office, Trump has pressured states, such as Indiana and Texas, to redraw their congressional maps to favor Republicans. His administration has also asked the Supreme Court to limit the availability of mail-in voting, a request the court has rejected.

“All of these things,” Patrick said, “are being done in the open.”

Lying is a sacred obligation of Muslim fanatics and some CIA veterans. Oh, not all of them. Some have done outstanding service. You rarely meet those. With few exceptions, my experience with the Agency has been distinctly negative. In Kosovo, the only thing the CIA contributed was keeping the Pristina bar scene alive. The new hit TV series Lioness features super-competent CIA operatives pulling off complex missions and being based. This is why they call it “fiction.” The real ones pulling the triggers tend to be pretty cool. The rest of them? They’d fit in nicely at the rear of the bell curve at your local DMV. There’s a reason the best book about the CIA ever is called Legacy of Ashes.

But just because they’re generally incompetent doesn’t mean they are not dangerous. Sadly, they’re less dangerous to America’s enemies than to Americans themselves. Take the aforementioned Slotkin, please. Recently, she decided to disgrace herself even more than she did when she joined with the useless blue falcon Mark Kelly to encourage American soldiers to disobey orders if there was a Republican administration in charge. This time, she felt comfortable on a liberal panel explaining that she intended to prosecute Republicans working for the Trump administration to deter future young Republicans from going into public service.

 Let me repeat that.

Now, you don’t have to believe me. You can believe her, at least in this case. Here’s what she said, straight from the donkey’s mouth: “So that’s what I’m saying, and not just focus on the president. I want young people coming out of school to say, ‘Should I go work for the Trump administration?’ [Like, that sounds fun.] I might get an opportunity that might be buying myself a ton of problems, and so let me avoid participating in that. I want that deterrence message s- [sent].”

Slotkin, understanding how her audience usually consists of either liars or mental defectives, immediately fell back on her CIA reflexes and denied that she said what everybody heard her say, adding a garnish of phony outrage. Nobody believed her denial, but that didn’t matter because it wasn’t really a denial. She’s aggressively for persecuting her political opponents so that they won’t participate in politics. What she was trying to do was change the subject so that normal people don’t become outraged by it. But boy, were conservatives ever outraged, and justifiably so. The original tweet, including the incriminating video that first exposed her plot led to her being nuked by conservatives, including senators, pundits, and regular folks, pointing out that this is absolutely unacceptable. And that’s good. We aren’t accepting it. We can’t, not if we want this to remain a free country.

The CIA has dabbled in toppling foreign governments for decades, which I don’t have a problem with. They’re foreigners. But it looks like the CIA’s lefty alums are trying to dabble in toppling this one, including trying to criminalize opposition to the nanny state socialist Borg of which Slotkin is merely a hard-four functionary. Now, the plan to try to not only take revenge on Republicans for daring to assert their right to govern themselves, but to ensure that we are permanently disenfranchised going forward is, like most of the CIA’s secrets, barely a secret at all. You just have to listen to them talk when you don’t think they are listening.

And it gets worse. It isn’t just Slotkin plotting. The incredible @DataRepublican has documented a massive conspiracy involving communist agitators working with former government officials, including USAID creeps, loser retired generals and, of course, unemployed spooks to foment their own color revolution here in America. These fools don’t understand that the color of any revolution they and Slotkin attempt to incite will be red.

The question is what to do about it. We can do nothing, and the result will be eternal serfdom. I don’t know about you, but I’m too old to bend my knees, especially to these ridiculous mediocrities. I have no intention of being anything but a free American citizen, speaking freely, worshiping as I wish, writing what I want, and having enough guns to start and finish World War III if someone wants to step up. So, what do we do about this?

First, we expose it. We talk about it. We understand it. But most importantly, we accept it. We accept the fact that there are significant numbers of senior members of the political class who are eagerly seeking to implement a dictatorship which will strip us of our rights as Americans if they are not stopped. Think about what Slotkin said. She wants to put people in jail – without any consideration of whether they actually committed any crime or not – in order to scare citizens of the other party away from participating in their own government. She thinks this is a good thing to do. She wants to do it. And until a spotlight got thrown on it by a social media platform that was no longer covering for her faction, she was happy to talk about it. She’s not ashamed she got caught. She doesn’t think she did anything wrong. Like the rest of the daddy-issue revolutionaries, she's excited by the opportunity to rule.

And don’t think she’d stop at just threatening you — her ilk would kill you as soon as look at you. We saw what they did to Charlie Kirk. We saw what they tried to do to Donald Trump. And that leads to our second important thing to do.

Buy guns and ammunition.

See, what she and her friends want to do is launch an information campaign that will convince us not to do things we want to do. That’s because they currently can’t do it by force. They want to achieve that capability down the road. But for now, all they can do is talk us into submission. Information campaigns can work, but only up to a point. At the end of the day, true power comes not by convincing someone to do something with words. It comes by convincing someone to do something at the point of a bayonet, and if they don’t do it, by shoving that bayonet in their guts.

Elissa Slotkin and her friends don’t have the bayonets. They certainly want them. That’s why they tried to turn the US military into a petri dish of bizarre social pathologies whose leaders they controlled so that they could turn real weapons against real people. And that’s why they hate Pete Hegseth so much — he stopped the transformation of the military into the armed wing of the Democrat Party and back into a real military worthy of a free country.

Similarly, that’s why they go so nuts about guns. The fact that we citizens have guns means we have the ultimate veto over illegitimate government actions. We can say “No,” as long as we can back it up with our AR-15s.

But is this talk of rising up against tyranny a bit overwrought? Well, we’re nowhere near there. That brings us to the next thing we need to do, which is vote. We can keep these aspiring hitlers out of office if we show up at the ballot box. After you had this US senator say that she wanted to basically outlaw the Republican Party, do you really think sitting out the midterms because your gas is a little more expensive from defeating the Iranians after 50 years is a good plan?

Be woke to what these people want to do. Expose it. Talk about it. Point it out. The American people are not with them. The American people instinctively know that the kind of fascist crap Elissa Slotkin and her friends support is a betrayal of our Constitution. Vote like you want to preserve your freedom. Don’t allow yourself to be blackpilled into authorizing your own oppression. And finally, exercise your Second Amendment rights, because 400 million firearms are one hell of a significant fact on the ground standing between us and tyranny.

Make no mistake about it. What Elissa Slotkin and her friends want is tyranny. We know because she just told us.

The Washington Post ran a story this week about “A small group of US national security officials...discreetly advising state and congressional lawmakers on how to prepare for the possibility that the Trump administration will attempt to interfere in the midterms.”

Other media have run headlines warning that “Trump is about to interfere and impose martial law.”

This propaganda is not just another attack on the GOP and Trump, it’s helping lay the foundation for a “revolution,” another coup attempt, craftily planned and carefully plotted to happen between now and January 3 by the enemies inside our gates.

The enemies are led by a group of 1,600 former federal officials calling themselves the National Security Leaders of America. They’ve devised a plan to take down the country through a Progressive revolution that removes Trump, arrests GOP officials, and installs state governors to temporarily rule the nation until “legitimacy” is restored under a whole new Constitution.

That’s right, a rerun of the 2016 Democrat coup attempt—but this time they’re much better prepared. The leaders envision:

• Sowing seeds of doubt suggesting the election is fraudulent and allege the results are illegitimate
• Generating massive civil unrest, and when Trump invokes the Insurrection Act, call his administration illegitimate
• Slowing the process of seating new senators and congressmen post election, and calling the Trump administration illegitimate because of the delay.

If it sounds a little funky, and not ready for prime time, wait until you meet the administrators of this unhinged revolution!

Meet the Nuts and Dolts

The people behind the coup attempt are former government insiders like Danielle Reiff (USAID) and Rear Admiral Michael E. Smith (Ret.) who leads the 1,600 insurgents under the umbrella group National Security Leaders for America.

Reiff appears to coordinate the efforts across all platforms, while Smith directs the military appeal to disobey President Trump’s orders. Another vocal revolutionary is Dr. Paul Zeitz (Renew American Democracy, NSLA, R2T), who has devised the restructuring plan.

Videos, audio clips, and documents obtained by Data Republican and published on X give us a front-row seat to observe the revolutionaries, their tools, and tactics.

Color Revolution Destination USA

Here’s a synopsis of the plan as it was described in August:

1. Wage a CIA-style “color revolution” in the USA—running the same play the CIA and State Department have used dozens of times to topple unfriendly foreign governments.
2. Activate hundreds of Democrat “charities” to ignite the revolution. These “blocking communities” coordinate with Democrat leadership to deploy and arm protestors, pay the ringleaders, and supply lawyers and funds to spring them out of jail.
3. Force Trump to impose marital law—or invoke the Insurrection Act. This becomes the “breakdown moment.” Democrat governors agree to refuse to cooperate with Trump’s deployment of the National Guard.
4. The governors have been told to game this exact scenario (the “memo”). They’ll reach out to foreign governments on behalf of the USA and act as governing authorities while the new structure is implemented.
5. The new federal government has no Senate, a Supreme Court with 15 justices selected by lottery, and a triune presidency made up of three co-equal persons serving six-year terms. A two-thirds major of these presidents determines US policy.

Timeline

Reiff plans to depose Trump sometime before January 3, 2027, when the new (Democrat) Congress is sworn in. She laughs about having a “day after tomorrow” plan to remake the system, which is displayed below in the diagram created by Paul Zeitz. Note the date at the top—by 2029.

Useful Idiots

The foundation is being laid by current and former Democrat politicians who accuse Trump and his associates of planning to steal the midterms. They frequently threaten to throw Republicans in jail once they take over.

Like Romans 2:1, they are accusing the GOP of what they are already doing.

Let’s start with Washington Governor Bob Ferguson. He has offered to deploy the National Guard to polling places on Election Day to prevent any “federal overreach” or “intimidation.” Keep in mind that Trump’s DOJ has filed a lawsuit against California, where 20,000 illegals on the voter rolls received a mail-in ballot. Trump is trying to block these ballots from being counted.

• Former CIA agent and current US Senator Elissa Slotkin (D-MI) is one of the first to go public, promising to prosecute Trump officials as soon as Democrats take over.

• Slotkin said she would pursue “signature cases” and make examples of them because they lacked immunity. She also accused Trump of preparing to rig the outcome of the midterms by plotting a national security crisis.

• Susan Rice (above), former Obama Advisor, threatened to hold those who are loyal to President Trump accountable. Democrats are not going to “play by the old rules,” she warns. They are going to use the law to persecute donors and supporters.

Helping them set the stage is a willing media, like the WaPo, Axios, and this gem of a journalist, Kara Swisher. She warned that Elon Musk would have been jailed under a President Kamala. She said Musk “has a very big sense of fate. And I think it’s coming for him. And real hard.”

Why this Matters: The whiners and complainers who are fed up with the GOP and the Trump presidency should stop to appreciate the wins. Fraudsters are being caught and prosecuted and the money drain is slowed, but the minute Democrats return to power, you can be sure the fraudsters will be back.

Here are just some of the wins announced this week:

• 160,000 deceased individuals have been removed from food stamp rolls.
• 275,000 noncitizens were removed from Social Security.
• 562,000 allegedly fraudulent small business loans were uncovered—$260.7 billion in fraud has been discovered across all programs.
• State Louise Lucas (D-VA) was indicted for racketeering and drug trafficking.
• Jennifer Gonzalez, a US citizen who acted as a matchmaker to arrange 100s of sham marriages to obtain citizenship was arrested. She charged $38,000-40,000 per customer.
• Vice President JD Vance’s anti-fraud task force is set to bring criminal charges against 40+ people accused of a $40 million food stamp scam, another $1.6 billion healthcare fraud in Los Angeles—10 people were arrested.
• A federal lawsuit was filed against California alleging that nearly 30 percent of noncitizens in California have a voting history.

Christians and conservatives MUST WIN in November and put the GOP in charge of the House and Senate, or we lose our country.

Iran says 7 oil tankers attacked in the Strait of Hormuz as fears grow of a return to war!-Posted on AP News-By MELANIE LIDMAN-On October 22, 2026:

TEL AVIV, Israel (AP) — Seven oil tankers caught fire or were damaged in the Strait of Hormuz overnight after being hit by Iran or striking naval mines, Tehran said Thursday, a markedly high number as tensions rise over concerns about a return to all-out war.

With days before a close election in Israel in which Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu could lose power, and before next month’s U.S. midterm election in which war-linked high prices have sparked voter anger, there are concerns that U.S.-Israeli attacks on Iran could resume.

“Netanyahu wants to attack Iran, that’s not even a question,” Danny Citrinowicz, a researcher at Israel’s Institute for National Security Studies and a former Iran specialist in Israel’s military and intelligence services, told The Associated Press.

He accused Israel of rushing into another round with Iran without revamping its strategy. A clear Netanyahu victory in the Oct. 27 election means an attack is almost guaranteed, he said.

Main opposition candidates are likely to focus on domestic issues first,

Iran repeats threat to attack U.S. bases in the region

Iranian state television reported the claims about the latest attacks on ships, which the AP couldn’t independently confirm. The report cited the Revolutionary Guard Corps navy, which again threatened to strike U.S. military bases in the region if the U.S. keeps helping to guide commercial ships through the strait.

The report didn’t mention casualties. Iran still asserts control over the waterway, a central point of leverage in any talks with the U.S. over the war.

October has had the most reported attacks on commercial shipping since March in the war’s opening weeks, according to a British military monitor, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations. UKMTO didn’t report the latest attacks, but it has noted new reluctance by some shippers to report incidents.

Oil producers have found ways to keep crude flowing, experts say, but at a mounting cost.

Iran says it’s open to diplomacy but also self-defense

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Wednesday said that a wary Tehran remains open to diplomacy, but is ready to defend itself.

Iran has warned that it has learned important military lessons from the war that began with U.S. and Israeli attacks on Feb. 28. In recent days, Tehran has indicated that it could expand targets to include infrastructure such as undersea cables and data centers.

The United States, for its part, is sending more military assets to the region, including a third aircraft carrier and thousands of troops, to join the largest force of American warships and aircraft in the Middle East in decades.

Mediators, meanwhile, have been trying to bring Washington and Tehran back to formal talks.

Iran still promotes its latest proposal that would end the war and fully open the strait within a week if the U.S. meets several conditions. Those conditions, which include ending the U.S. blockade of Iranian ports, echo ones in the deal that fell apart within days of both sides signing it in June.

In late September, U.S. President Donald Trump rejected that seven-day proposal, but both sides have acknowledged that indirect discussions have continued.

The stakes are even higher if all-out war resumes

A return to full fighting would again endanger civilians throughout the region and complicate global deliveries of oil, natural gas and related products like fertilizer from the region and likely bring another spike in prices.

The head of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, Mohsen Rezaei, this week acknowledged that the Islamic Republic would suffer under a prolonged U.S. blockade. But economic pain and strategic collapse are not the same thing, he added, according to Iran’s state-run IRNA news agency.

Now the landscape of the conflict has widened with the recent surge in fighting between Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthis and Saudi Arabia. The Saudi kingdom backs a coalition of forces with Yemen’s internationally recognized government that is fighting the rebels.

The Houthis’ repeated deadly attacks on airports and other facilities inside Saudi Arabia have pressured the close U.S. ally, which has sought military aid.

The escalation also has threatened a crucial shipping corridor, the Bab el-Mandeb at the southern end of the Red Sea.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The State Department is ordering some diplomats and the families of U.S. government employees to leave Saudi Arabia following a series of deadly attacks in the country by Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels and rising fears of an escalation in hostilities.

The department said Wednesday it had ordered the departure of non-essential staff at the U.S. Embassy in Riyadh and its satellite consulates. The embassy had been badly damaged at the start of the Iran war and had been operating with only a skeleton staff for months, although some diplomats had returned in recent months.

In a new travel alert, the department said, “Iranian-supported Houthis have engaged in hostilities against Saudi Arabia, including attacks on civilian airports and other critical infrastructure resulting in civilian casualties and severe travel disruptions. The hostilities have the potential to escalate rapidly beyond that immediate area.”

A series of previous alerts for Saudi Arabia issued over the past several days have used almost identical language and noted that U.S. government personnel need special permission to use any Saudi airport. The Houthis have routinely targeted Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport, and it had been closed since Oct. 10 following a severe attack.

But earlier Wednesday, aircraft from a limited number of Saudi airlines took off and landed at the airport, two days after Saudi aviation authorities notified airlines that they could resume operations with prior permission.

Still, major carriers like Lufthansa and Air France have canceled flights to Riyadh through mid-November. Saudi airlines, including Saudia and FlyNas, were among those operating flights Wednesday.

The Houthis have acknowledged attacking the airport, claiming without evidence that Saudi Arabia provided military equipment to government forces through the facility.

Although the ordered departure applies only to Saudi Arabia, U.S. embassies in other Gulf countries will see temporary staffing changes, the department said. Those embassies are already under “restricted operations” that limit the number of personnel working there.

Meanwhile, tensions grew as Saudi Arabia’s Energy Ministry said debris from an intercepted drone killed two people and injured two others at an Aramco-operated oil field in the country’s southeast.

The Saudi-led coalition fighting the Houthis also said the group had fired five drones toward Saudi Arabia early Wednesday. The coalition said the drones were intercepted and destroyed over the holy city of Madinah and the Eastern Region.

The attempted attack was the latest on Saudi Arabia since the resurgence of fighting with the Houthis in mid-July.

Peterffy, born in Hungary, is the antidote to George Soros, also born in Hungary, except Peterffy opposes socialism and wants to save the system that made him a billionaire.

Ironically, however, so-called “conservative” opponents of Super Intelligence, based on data centers, are playing into the hands of the socialists. Investor Kevin O’Leary says the socialist campaign to delay the advent of “Super Intelligence” in the U.S., backed by data centers, is such that many data center projects will never get built, giving Communist China the edge.

Peterffy, a refugee from communism, was on CNBC on Friday and explained, “So people vote according to what they believe. Meantime, Vice President JD Vance predicts the worst may be yet to come, if the socialists win.

Peterffy, who obtained a valid permit to emigrate to the U.S.  in 1965 from West Germany, where he had secured a short-term, family-visit travel visa, has emerged as a major Trump supporter who has warned about the impact of socialism and communism. beginning with the Obama presidency.

He is not only the only financial expert warning of a socialist takeover.

Michael Hartnett, chief investment strategist at Bank of America, has noted that if prediction markets are correct and the Democratic Party achieves a full sweep of Congress this November 3, stock markets could see a potential downside of 10% or more.

Although a 10% decline in the stock market is generally defined as a correction, not a crash, the implications could be enormous.

A report on Hartnett’s advice says “Full control of Congress by the Democrats would hinder Trump’s ability to force governments, corporations and resources into supporting his policies of resource monopolization and AI supremacy over China.”

The term “resource monopolization,” refers to America First policies of control over raw materials (such as bauxite, oil, or rare minerals) essential to our economy and national defense.

The implication is that China will come out as a big winner if their socialist allies win control of the House and Senate. That’s certainly true if “conservatives” join forces with socialists to block progress.

Peterffy, who created Interactive Brokers in 1993 to give everyday investors direct, low-cost electronic access to markets worldwide, launched his “Freedom to Succeed” ad in 2012. It is still relevant and can still be seen on YouTube.

“I grew up in a socialist country.

I saw what it does to people. There is no hope, no freedom, no pride in achievement.

The nation became poorer and poorer, and that’s what I see happening here.

As a young man, I escaped to America with nothing. Here, I was able to build a business and create thousands of jobs.

America’s wealth comes from the efforts of its people striving for success—of taking risks, working hard, and building things.

In socialism, the rich will be poorer, but the poor will also be poorer. People lose interest in really working hard and creating jobs.

I am deeply concerned that we are taking a path toward socialism. It is a slippery slope.

Vote for candidates who understand that wealth comes from success, not government.”

The year 2012, when Peterffy launched his anti-socialism campaign, was the year Barack Hussein Obama ran for his second term, after passage of the socialist medicine scheme known as Obamacare, the Affordable Care Act (ACA), with the support of the U.S. Catholic Bishops. During his first term, Trump had rallied Republicans in the House and Senate to repeal it, but Senator John McCain vetoed the effort, and repeal failed.

It has now been discovered to have include roughly 760,000 unverified “phantoms” representing approximately 315,000 policy enrollments. They were receiving ACA premium tax credit (PTC) subsidies without proper eligibility verification. The Trump Administration is removing these improper enrollees.

Furthermore, the White House Task Force to Eliminate Fraud, led by Vice President JD Vance, identified 189,000 individuals improperly receiving ACA subsidies, including approximately 70,000 deceased individuals and 120,000 individuals double-enrolled in Medicaid.

Meanwhile, under the umbrella of the Soros-funded Indivisible, so-called Social Democrats constitute the latest group of communists organizing on behalf of Democrats this November under the “No Kings” banner. They proclaim, “We are Socialists; therefore, we believe in Free Education, Universal Health Care, Anti-Death Penalty, Pro-Abortion, Universal Basic Income, the Right to Unionize, the sanctity of the Separation of Church and State, and the belief that the Government should make life bearable for all and ensure citizens’ Liberties.”

The “No Kings” protests, which I have covered on several occasions, depict Trump as a “King” or even a fascist. The latter is, of course, designed to suggest he is a Hitler-style politician whose death is required to restore “democracy.” I took actual photographs of lunatics carrying posters and signs threatening the assassination of President Trump and a “guillotine” for Elon Musk.

By the way, like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Senator Bernie Sanders, communist leaders Lenin, Trotsky, and Stalin began their careers as “social democrats.”

President Trump is warning voters that U.S. streets will burn like those in France if Democrats are elected in November, using the overseas crisis to ramp up the stakes around the midterm elections.

“If you want to see what is at stake in this election, just look at what’s happening in France — a once great nation that is being conquered, looted and burned to the ground by migrants, jihadists and communists who hate Christianity,“ Mr. Trump told a rally late Monday in Kansas.

Mr. Trump is taking a keen interest in the riots in France, which began as protests against crumbling and underfunded schools and spiraled into violent clashes over the cost of living and government austerity measures.

The president sees it as an extension of lax migration policies.

Mr. Trump, who stumped for Sen. Roger Marshall as the Republican lawmaker tries to stave off a surprise defeat, underlined his commitment to strict border and immigration policies.

“We’re not going to let that ⁠happen to this country,” Mr. Trump said of the French clashes. “When you see burning steeples and raging fires in France, just remember that is what the radical Dumocrats want to do to America.”

The president leaned into his tough-on-immigration stance as he crisscrossed the country to campaign for Republicans in tight races.

Mr. Trump is also watching overseas developments. He said French President Emmanuel Macron made a “big mistake” by allowing migrants into the country.

“Paris is going to be a Muslim city very soon,” Mr. Trump told White House reporters. “Emmanuel should’ve closed his borders a long time ago. I told him to do it.”

They replaced the Cross and the Enlightenment with the ledger of the profiteer and the sword of the fanatic. The history books will record this era as the Great Suicide of the West. Every brick in the new European edifice is cemented with the blood of the innocent and the silence of the cowards.

The time for debate ends. The reality is bare. Europe chose the side of the predator. It remains the eternal enemy of the sovereign soul.

What to know about the Iran war today:

Yemeni foreign minister criticizes Iranian offer to mediate Houthi war

Yemen's foreign minister is blasting Iran's offer to mediate the war between the internationally recognized government and the Iran-backed Houthi militant group.

"When Iran's foreign minister and his officials offer 'mediation' in Yemen, they are offering to mediate a war ignited by the coup of the Houthi terrorist militia with their regime's backing, and prolonged by that regime's arming, financing, and training of the militia and its supply of missiles, drones, and experts," Yemeni Foreign Minister Afrah Alzouba said as part of a lengthy statement. 

"Tehran has made itself a party to the war on Yemenis," she continued. "Instead of offering mediation, its regime should withdraw its hand and its weapons from Yemen, respect the sovereignty of states, and abide by international law and the principles of good neighborliness."

Iran's foreign ministry on Friday rejected Saudi Arabia's accusation that Tehran was involved in Houthi attacks on the kingdom, offering to mediate between the two sides.

The Houthis are backed financially and militarily by Iran, officials from the U.S. and Israel, as well as many regional analysts, have said for years.

"The Houthis are the most powerful proxy within the Iranian network, hands down," Mohammed Al-Basha, founder of the Basha Report, a U.S.-based risk advisory group, told CBS News. "Any U.S. military strategy planning a campaign on Iran will have to take into consideration what the Houthis will do next."

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, one of the leading members of past negotiations with the United States, met with a handful of his counterparts on Saturday at a gathering of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Baghdad.

Among those he met was Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan even as Turkey is part of a trilateral cooperation agreement with Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, which is coming under fire from the Iran-backed Houthi militia.

The two sides discussed "the latest developments in Palestine and Yemen, emphasizing diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions," according to the Iranian government.

"During the bilateral talks, FM Araghchi also reviewed the latest developments in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz, briefing his Turkish counterpart on ongoing diplomatic trends and emphasizing Islamic cooperation to face shared regional challenges," the Iranian government said on X.

Araghchi also met with foreign leaders from Egypt, which said Saturday it would defend Saudi Arabia from Houthi attacks; Libya; Lebanon; and Algeria.

Saudi strikes on Yemen kill 12, Iran-backed Houthis say

Saudi strikes that began overnight have killed at least 12 people in Yemen, three of them children, Houthi media reported on Saturday.

Saudi warplanes targeted "civilian homes" in Taiz governorate on Saturday, killing nine people and wounding 16, the Iran-backed group's news agency said, adding people were still trapped under the rubble.

The agency had earlier reported overnight strikes in Dhamar province that killed three children and wounded 17 other people.

It said the strikes were carried out "using cluster bombs, which are banned internationally."

The Saudi-led coalition fighting the Houthis has launched daily raids in Yemen backing the internationally recognized government in the country's long-running civil war.

Saudis intercept 4 drones over country in recent hours

The Saudi-led coalition fighting against the Iran-backed Houthis have intercepted four drones over Saudi territory in the last few hours, the group said.

The drones were intercepted over the capital city of Riyadh, and in the Eastern, and Southern regions, according to the coalition.

The Houthis have regularly launched drones and missiles at the Saudis every day for the last several weeks. 

The coalition announced overnight it had taken out two missile-launch platforms in the Saada Governorate, which is the northern-most region in Yemen and controlled by the Houthis. A missile launch one week ago hit King Khallid International Airport in Riyadh and killed 13 people.

President Sisi says Egypt ready to defend Saudi Arabia "if requested"

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on Saturday said Egypt was ready to defend Saudi Arabia "if requested," as fighting flares between the kingdom and Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen.

Since Yemen's war reignited in July, the Houthis have repeatedly attacked Saudi targets, including energy facilities and Riyadh's King Khalid International Airport, where 13 people were killed in a single attack last Saturday.

The Houthis have also blockaded the Bab el-Mandeb Strait to Saudi-flagged tankers, piling pressure on energy exports as Iran presses its own blockade on the Strait of Hormuz.

Speaking at a graduation ceremony at the Egyptian military academy, Sisi said Egypt was "not looking for a role to play" in regional conflicts, but added it was "inconceivable" for Cairo to stand by while Saudi Arabia was "harmed or its security and stability threatened."

"Egypt, of course, with the directives of His Majesty King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, will carry out any measure to protect you or defend you," he said.

He added any deployment would require parliamentary approval and said he hoped lawmakers would convene in an emergency session to grant authorization "if it is requested of us."

"I'm not talking about fighting anyone or attacking anyone," Sisi said. "We are speaking only about defense."

Yemen's Houthis free 159 pro-government fighters under amnesty

Yemen's Houthis on Saturday announced the release of 159 pro-government fighters under an amnesty announced after they seized swathes of land in a major offensive last month.

The prisoners had "voluntarily surrendered themselves without fighting" as the Iran-backed group captured strategic positions along the Red Sea, Houthi official Abdelqader al-Murtada told a press conference in Sanaa.

The Houthis' war with the Saudi-backed, internationally recognized government reignited in July after four years of calm, triggering attacks on Saudi oil shipments and other targets including airports.

The International Committee of the Red Cross confirmed the unilateral release of 159 prisoners and said it had given support by organizing interviews and health checks, contacting families and helping arrange transport.

Murtada said 323 prisoners were released under the amnesty last month after surrendering in Hodeidah governorate.

Iran backs "political process" to resolve Saudi-Houthi conflict, foreign minister says

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Saturday that Tehran supports a "political process" to resolve the conflict between Saudi Arabia and Yemen's Iran-backed Houthis.

The Houthis have repeatedly attacked Saudi targets, including energy facilities and Riyadh's international airport, where 13 people were killed in a major attack one week ago.

"We support an inclusive and comprehensive political process as the only practical and sustainable way to resolve the issue," Araghchi said in a speech at the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Baghdad.

Araghchi repeated Iran's offer to mediate between the two sides. Deputy Foreign Minister Saeed Khatibzadeh previously said Riyadh has not responded to Iran's overture.

On Friday, Iran denied having anything to do with the Houthi attacks, after Saudi Arabia accused Tehran of encouraging the group's escalation.

In his speech, Araghchi also said "either we build security together, or we will endure insecurity together," adding Tehran was willing "to cooperate with all its brothers and neighbours to achieve the first option."

The Houthis in Yemen and Hezbollah in Lebanon are part of Iran's "Axis of Resistance" against Israel and the United States, which also includes armed groups in Iraq.

Oil tanker reportedly hits mine in Strait of Hormuz

Iran's Revolutionary Guards Corps on Saturday said an oil tanker was on fire in the Strait of Hormuz after hitting a mine in the waterway at the heart of the Middle East war.

"A supertanker in violation of regulations, carrying more than two million barrels of crude oil and attempting to pass illegally through the Strait of Hormuz, struck a mine, triggering an explosion and a fierce fire," the Iranian military said.

The statement did not specify the exact location of the incident.

"The tanker attempted to cross the strait with U.S. support... by deactivating all its tracking systems," the Guards added, also posting a video of a vessel in flames during the night.

Ship attacked by RPG fired from small boat, British maritime agency said

The U.K. Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) monitoring agency reported on Saturday a second attack on a ship off the coast of Saudi Arabia, which took place a day early.

In a post on social media, the UKMTO said: "The master of a tanker has reported being attacked by an RPG (rocket-propelled grenade) from a small boat, resulting in damage to the aft port quarter."

Friday's attack is the second reported by the agency on that day off the coast of Al Jubayl in Saudi Arabia.

"Crew are accounted for and reported safe," the UKMTO said, but the full extent of the damage and environmental impact were not known at the time of the report.

Ship struck by "unknown projectile" off the coast of Saudi Arabia, maritime agency says

A British maritime agency said Saturday it had received a report of a vessel struck on the Persian Gulf on Friday.

The U.K. Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said the tanker had been struck by an "unknown projectile" off the coast of Saudi Arabia.

"All crew are reported safe and have been evacuated. There is no reported environmental impact at the time of report," the statement added.

The UKMTO had previously reported that October had become the busiest month for reported attacks on ships in the Strait Hormuz.

When an Iranian dissident proclaims that “the greatest killer of Iranians has been Islam,” the statement is less an exercise in academic historiography than a cry of immediate political exhaustion. Across the diaspora and within the quiet corners of Tehran, Isfahan, and Shiraz, a powerful counternarrative has taken hold. Confronted with the gallows, morality police, and institutional dogmatism of the Islamic Republic, many Iranians have turned history into a weapon of resistance. In this narrative, the seventh-century Arab conquest is not a distant chapter in antiquity, but the original sin of Persian history – an ongoing catastrophe linking the fall of the Sasanian capital of Ctesiphon in 637 A.D. directly to the prison yards of Evin today.

To understand contemporary Iran, one must grasp the potency of this neo-nationalist memory. Yet to understand Iran’s actual past, one must untangle this emotional countermyth from the messy realities of imperial violence, political pragmatism, and cultural assimilation.

The foundational pillar of the anti-clerical narrative is the catastrophic rupture of the Rashidun conquest. The popular memory laments a sophisticated, enlightened Zoroastrian civilization abruptly dismantled by religious fanaticism.

The historical reality was far more mundane and agonizingly political. By 633 A.D., the Sasanian Empire was an exhausted shell. Decades of brutal, total war against the Byzantine Empire had depleted the treasury, shattered the peasant economy through punitive taxation, and broken the imperial army. Internal dynastic fratricide saw nearly a dozen claimants’ cycle through the throne in a span of four years.

When the Arab Muslim armies advanced across the Mesopotamian floodplains, they encountered an empire already unraveling from within. Many regional dehqans (landed nobility) and Nestorian Christian minorities negotiated surrenders and retained their administrative posts rather than sacrifice themselves for a fractured Sasanian court. The subsequent conversion of the Iranian plateau was not a sudden, sword-point event; it took over three centuries of fiscal pressures, social incentives, and localized assimilation before Muslims formed a demographic majority.

The dissident text draws a continuous line of religious terror through later conquerors such as Timur (Tamerlane) and Agha Mohammad Khan Qajar. Here, historiography diverges sharply from theological polemic.

Timur was a Turco-Mongol conqueror of terrifying efficiency who constructed minarets of human skulls across the Middle East. While he invoked Islamic rhetoric to legitimize his campaigns, he massacred Sunni and Shi’i populations with equal ferocity, from Baghdad to Damascus and Isfahan. His violence was the legacy of the Eurasian steppe empire – A.D. terror designed to force rapid capitulation – not a campaign to impose Quranic dogma on Persians.

Similarly, when Agha Mohammad Khan blinded thousands of men in Kerman in 1794, his fury had nothing to do with religious piety. He was a ruthless dynastic warlord extinguishing the rival Zand dynasty to consolidate the Qajar Empire. Folding these bloody campaigns into an unbroken “thread of Islamic terror” strips regional history of its political and dynastic context, reducing complex geopolitics into a single religious motive.

The true paradox of Iranian history lies in what happened after the conquest: Persia did not merely survive; it thoroughly captured its conquerors.

While the languages and cultures of Roman Egypt, the Levant, and North Africa were largely Arabized, Iran retained its linguistic and cultural autonomy. Through the Shu’ubiyya literary movement of the ninth century, Persian scholars asserted their cultural superiority within the caliphate. Under the Abbasids, the machinery of imperial governance – from viziers and tax ledgers to court etiquette – was overwhelmingly staffed by Persians.

Ferdowsi’s Shahnameh revived the Persian language and pre-Islamic mythology, codifying a distinct Iranian civilizational identity. Thinkers like Ibn Sina (Avicenna), Al-Biruni, and Al-Razi operated within an Islamic framework while drawing extensively upon classical Persian, Indian, and Hellenistic traditions. Iranian culture was not an inert victim of a foreign creed; it fundamentally reshaped Islamic civilization into a Perso-Islamic ecumene.

Why, then, does the narrative of absolute religious rupture remain so compelling today?

Because inside the Islamic Republic, history is never academic; it is ideological warfare. For over four decades, the ruling theocracy has attempted to erase or diminish pre-Islamic heritage, framing everything prior to 622 A.D. as Jahiliyyah (an age of pagan ignorance). School curriculums were engineered to prioritize religious martyrdom over national antiquity.

In response, the Iranian public engineered a mirror image of the regime’s dogma. Where the state proclaims Islam brought total enlightenment, dissidents proclaim it brought total destruction. Pre-Islamic symbols – the tomb of Cyrus the Great at Pasargadae, the Faravahar, the fire temples of Yazd – have become subversive counter-symbols of freedom. When young women remove their headscarves to chants of “Zan, Zendegi, Azadi” (Woman, Life, Freedom), they are rejecting an ideology that has weaponized faith to control their bodies, lives, and modern aspirations.

The emotional cry that “Islam is the greatest killer of Iranians” is historically simplistic, but sociologically revelatory. It is the raw voice of a society that has endured decades of ideological enclosure and chosen to look back into the deepest wells of its memory to imagine a future free of clerics. Iran’s greatest triumph has never been ethnic purity or religious isolation, but its stubborn, millennia-old capacity to outlive every ideology that sought to erase it.
