Our armchair justices started posting about the constitutionality of the strike on Venezuela while the smoke still hovered over the drug depots of Caracas. Personally, I will wait until the smoke clears. Having just edited a scholarly book on the constitutional foundations of America’s wars, I learned that no post on any social media site can begin to capture the complexity of designated war powers—especially on day one.

The book in question focused on the military actions launched in the last 80 years. World War II set something of a gold standard. On December 8, Franklin Delano Roosevelt addressed both Houses of Congress. “As Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy, I have directed that all measures be taken for our defense,” he said, acknowledging his powers. In the next sentence, he acknowledged those of Congress. “I ask that the Congress declare that since the unprovoked and dastardly attack by Japan on Sunday, December 7, 1941, a state of war has existed between the United States and the Japanese Empire.”

Every member of the Senate voted in support of FDR to declare war, as did every member of the House except for a feminist from Montana miffed that “as a woman.” she and her sisters could not go to war. By contrast, America’s next major military action was launched by President Harry Truman with the blessing of the nascent UN but, critically, without congressional support. This “police action” lasted three years and cost more than 33,000 American lives—90-plus percent of all non-Korean lives lost.

The Democrats still revere Harry Truman. They despise George W. Bush. Yet as hard as this may be to believe, the Iraq War, by historic standards, was honestly waged and reported. In October 2002, the Authorization for Use of Military Force Against Iraq Resolution passed both the House and the Senate by comfortable margins. This did not make the Iraq War the smartest war ever waged, but it has proved to be the most constitutionally sound US military engagement since World War II.

On the Democratic side of the aisle, 29 of 50 Senators voted in favor of the resolution. This included all of the most ambitious Democratic senators—Joe Biden, John Kerry, Hillary Clinton, Joe Lieberman, John Edwards, and Tom Daschle among others. They turned against the war out of political expediency. The anti-war Vermont Governor and presidential candidate Howard Dean had begun flanking them on the left.

Of all the military actions launched in the last eighty years top honors for illogic, constitutional indifference, bad outcome, and sheer ugliness go to Barack Obama for the 2011 intervention in Libya.

On March 19, 2011, President Obama authorized, without congressional approval, a “limited military action” in Libya whose stated goal was “to protect Libyan civilians.” This move made no sense to anyone but the media and Obama’s Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton.

The “why” of this attack is still uncertain. For all his flaws, Libyan strongman Muammar Gaddafi had recently abandoned his WMD program and his terrorist arm. Obama admitted as much years later. “It’s fair to say that I found the idea of waging a new war in a distant country with no strategic importance to the United States to be less than prudent.” You think?

In his March 28, 2011, address to the nation Obama claimed that if America had delayed just one more day, “Benghazi, a city nearly the size of Charlotte, could suffer a massacre that would have reverberated across the region and stained the conscience of the world.” Obama was either lying or just being stupid. There had been no massacres and would be none until September 11, 2011, when four Americans were murdered in Benghazi.

A month after the bombing started, Obama, along with France’s Nicolas Sarkozy and Britain’s David Cameron, sent a letter to the international press. They now claimed, “The bloodbath that he had promised to inflict on the citizens of the besieged city of Benghazi has been prevented.” The only one not promising a bloodbath was Qaddafi. By this time, Obama had to know the pretext for war was false, but he would continue to pursue it for another six deadly months.

On October 20, 2011, NATO planes attacked a convoy among whose passengers was a desperate Qaddafi. Militia members took Qaddafi prisoner, indelicately sodomized him with a knife, and captured it all much too graphically on video.

They then threw Qaddafi, still breathing, onto a pick-up truck. When the truck pulled away, he promptly fell off. This Keystone Cops-meets-Mad Max muddle was not quite the image of a new Libya Obama and Hillary were hoping to project, but the Left didn’t care.

The Guardian headline captured the giddy mood in Washington: “Obama hails death of Muammar Gaddafi as foreign policy success: President warns other Middle Eastern dictators, particularly Syrian president Bashar al-Assad, that they could be next.” Said Obama in a Rose Garden speech, “The dark shadow of tyranny has been lifted.”

No one summed up the mood in Washington better than Secretary of State Clinton. White being interviewed by a CBS newswoman, Hillary learned that Qaddafi had been killed. She turned her head toward an aide, laughed, and said, “We came. We saw. He died.” She laughed again at her bon mot and the unnamed female interviewer laughed along with her.

This is a video all Democrats needs to see. When they start wailing about the fascist in the White House remind them of the military actions they launched and lied about—Korea, Vietnam, Serbia, Libya, and, covertly, Ukraine.

As to the constitutionality of the Venezuela strike, everyone will be right and everyone will be wrong. “Among those issues that cause friction are military operations short of declared war,” writes my author. “Although only Congress can declare war, Presidents have repeatedly ordered U.S. forces into action without Congressional approval. Perhaps because foreign affairs were not the most pressing concern of the Framers, the Constitution is somewhat ambiguous in this area.”

And ambiguous it remains.

This move comes amid reports of targeted U.S. strikes on Venezuelan sites linked to drug operations, marking a decisive step against what the administration views as a entrenched narco-regime.

The operation rests on solid legal ground established years ago. In March 2020, the U.S. Department of Justice indicted Maduro and over a dozen associates on charges including narco-terrorism conspiracy, cocaine importation conspiracy, and possession of machine guns and destructive devices. These accusations stem from Maduro’s alleged role in the “Cartel de los Soles,” a network accused of flooding the United States with hundreds of tons of cocaine while collaborating with the Colombian guerrilla group FARC, designated as a terrorist organization.

The Southern District of New York, known for handling high-profile international cases, issued the indictment, which has remained active. A $50 million bounty from the State Department further underscored the U.S. commitment to bringing Maduro to justice.

Executing this warrant through direct action aligns with precedents in U.S. law enforcement practices abroad. The Justice Department has long maintained that apprehending indicted fugitives, even in foreign territories, falls within the bounds of enforcing federal warrants, especially when the host nation harbors criminals tied to threats against American citizens.

As one U.S. official noted in a recent Military.com report, “Nicolás Maduro and his wife were captured under a U.S. criminal indictment, highlighting how domestic warrants can be enforced internationally.” This approach draws from a 1989 legal memorandum from the Office of Legal Counsel, which argued that the FBI could arrest suspects abroad without host country consent in certain circumstances, particularly for terrorism-related offenses.

Critics abroad have questioned the operation’s compliance with international norms, but the Trump administration points to Venezuela’s status as a failed state under Maduro’s rule. The checks roll in – fatter with every birth – while he rotates his visits like a warlord on patrol. The kids? A horde tumbling in the gutters, all his, all on the state’s dime. This isn’t folklore; it’s fraud on steroids, documented in federal busts where Muslim immigrants pocketed over $126,000 in stolen aid before the cuffs snapped shut. Credit to the always savvy Mike Benz for calling attention to an incredible document issued in August 2020 by a deep state cabal calling itself the “Transition Integrity Project” (TIP). Launched in late 2019, TIP feigned bipartisanship but coalesced around the notion that “President Donald Trump has steadily undermined core norms of democracy and the rule of law and embraced numerous corrupt and authoritarian practices.”

Unmentioned in the document is the quiet Russiagate coup that collapsed with the release of the Mueller report months before TIP was launched. Only in a deep state uber-bubble could 100-plus “current and former senior government and campaign leaders” agree to overlook so evil an abuse and participate in an exercise that imagines Trump to be as ignorant as they are.

Participants included political strategists, journalists, polling experts, tech and social media experts, and former career officials from the intelligence community, the Justice Department, the military and the Department of Homeland Security. If the Deep State needed a poster girl. it could do no better than TIP co-founder Rosa Brooks. Named after German Marxist martyr Rosa Luxemburg, Brooks has worked in and around the Defense and State Departments since Obama came to power.

Since Brooks could not ask members of Team Biden or Team Trump to play themselves, she “did the next best thing,” recruiting participants with “similar backgrounds.” Here, the exercise descends into self-parody.

On Team Biden were people who might well have been on the real Team Biden—high profile Democratic hacks John Podesta and Donna Brazile and former Michigan governor Jennifer Granholm. On Team Trump were a sorry bunch of TDS-infected Quislings who, in real life, played on Team Biden—former RNC Chair Michael Steele, commentator Bill Kristol, and former Kentucky secretary of state Trey Grayson. Confirmation bias, anyone?

Speaking of John Podesta, the TIP crew imagined one scenario that included “spurious claims” linking key Democrats to “child sex trafficking.” That TIP would include this seemingly minor detail shows how blind its people are to their own vulnerabilities. Were she to read the coded language in the Podesta emails exposed by Wikileaks, even Rosa Brooks might not ever eat pizza again.

The TIP cabal imagined four potential outcomes to the 2020 election: ambiguous results, clear Biden victory, narrow Biden win, and clear Trump win. TIP predicted chaos for all these outcomes except for a clear Biden victory. In that case, concluded TIP, “Once it became clear that efforts to overturn that outcome were unlikely to succeed, the Trump Campaign pivoted to a strategy of self-preservation and limiting future legal liability.”

Most revealing is what TIP predicted in the light of a clear Trump win—in the electoral college, that is. The cabalists could not bring themselves to imagine Trump getting a majority of the popular votes. In this scenario, Biden retracts his election night concession speech and exploits “the public’s outrage that for the third time in 20 years a candidate lost the popular vote but won the Electoral College.”

Team Biden then shifts its focus to alleged GOP voter suppression and encourages three key states with Democratic governors to demand a recount. Governors in two of the three—Wisconsin and Michigan—send separate slates of electors to counter those sent by the state legislature.

The country soon finds itself “in the midst of a full-blown constitutional crisis,” one proudly generated by the Left despite the “clear Trump win.” The crisis involves political chaos, a poisonous media environment, and “sporadic actual violence in the streets.”

At the next stage, the Biden campaign encourages the three westernmost states to secede from the union unless the GOP agrees to end the electoral college and institute majority rule. Team Biden also demands statehood for DC and Puerto Rico and a maximum age of 70 for Supreme Court justices.

In one of its “most consequential moves,” on January 6 Team Biden provokes a “breakdown in the joint session of Congress by getting the House of Representatives to agree to award the presidency to Biden (based on the alternative pro-Biden submissions sent by pro-Biden governors).” The GOP refuses to yield, and January 20 arrives “without a single president elect entitled to be Commander-in-Chief after noon that day.”

As the TIP report makes clear, the cabalists seemed perfectly comfortable imagining actions for which Trump and his team were later chastised and punished. By June 2024, as is well enough known, dozens of Republican state officials and Trump associates would be indicted in four states for presenting alternate slates of electors.

Trump attorney John Eastman, who argued for the constitutionality of presenting alternate slates, was criminally indicted and recommended for disbarment. The State of Georgia indicted 19 Trump associates for calling attention to rampant election fraud and demanding a recount. The FBI meanwhile arrested some 1600 protestors for challenging what was absolutely not a “clear Biden victory.” and Tina Peters, 70, remains in prison for trying to prove the fraud that allowed Biden to pose as president for four years.

In 2020, alas, the cabalists prevailed. On Saturday, November 7, the TV networks all declared Joe Biden the president-elect. They came to this unanimous and simultaneous conclusion despite flagrant violations of state election law, the filing of numerous lawsuits documenting voter fraud, and growing demand for recounts in close swing states.

The Left’s shock troops got the word of “victory” even before the media did. The 400-plus sites the cabalists had set aside to protest a Trump win were reoriented toward a day of celebration. This day just happened to coincide with the day the networks called the election. In the world of TIP, celebrating, like rioting, was orchestrated.

Had Trump not won the popular vote in 2024, we can have no doubt but that those sites would have been used for their original purpose. In the run-up to 2026, they still may be.

The aftermath of January 6th must be understood in tandem with the withdrawal from Afghanistan and the federal vaccine mandates. Together, they formed the operational center of a three-tiered purge aimed at the heart of the American national security workforce.

Revolutions require crisis. They cannot sustain themselves solely on theory. A strategic choice must be made about where that crisis will be centered. If the battlefield is domestic, foreign crises must be controlled or terminated quickly. From this perspective, the catastrophic withdrawal from Afghanistan takes on an additional dimension. Clearing the deck internationally created space for the domestic crisis narrative around January 6 to dominate. It is plausible that the decision to accept a disastrous withdrawal was seen as an acceptable cost if it allowed the administration and its ideological allies to focus fully on remaking the internal machinery of the state.

Barely a week after Afghanistan fell, vaccine mandates were announced for the entire federal workforce. From the first moment, it was clear to many inside the system that this was not primarily about public health. It was about obedience, identification, and removal. Those who refused to comply were disproportionately religious, constitutionally minded, conservative in outlook, or simply unwilling to submit to coerced medical intervention. In other words, they were the precise cohort that revolutionary ideologues view as an obstacle.

What followed across the federal government was a coordinated pattern. Agencies created religious accommodation processes that were adversarial by design. Internal systems were engineered to route almost every request toward denial. In some cases, the process itself kept changing to trap employees into non-compliance that could be framed as insubordination. Compliance numbers were falsified. Lists of non-compliant personnel were compiled. Unvaccinated officers were labeled as insider threats, a term previously used for spies, saboteurs, or those posing physical security risks. In some cases, armed officers were informed that their firearms could be taken or their positions altered based on their refusal.

Crude calculations made inside multiple agencies suggested that the administration was prepared to terminate a staggering proportion of the national security workforce. While public reporting put the number of separated service members in the thousands, internal estimates and anecdotal evidence suggest the actual impact may have been orders of magnitude greater, including forced retirements, coerced resignations, career-destroying notations, and informal blacklists. The intent appears to have been nothing less than the ideological purification of the federal apparatus under the cover of a health emergency.

The Central Intelligence Agency was not immune to this process. Within the CIA, the enforcement of mandates and the surrounding machinery of compliance bore the hallmarks of DEI-aligned activism rather than neutral personnel management. Officers who sought religious accommodations often did so at high personal and professional cost. Many are still living with the consequences of stalled careers, hostile evaluations, and the lingering suspicion that their names remain flagged in unseen databases. Internal investigations by networks of concerned officers uncovered documentation that suggested these non-compliance lists were being shared or prepared for sharing with the Pre-Trial Services Agency, which, by its own description, exists to support the federal courts in managing newly arrested defendants.

If vaccine noncompliance were being linked conceptually to January 6-related offenses, a dangerous precedent would have been established. A government was effectively considering religious objection or medical autonomy a political crime. This is characteristic of regimes that have moved from disagreement to criminalization, not of constitutional republics.

The mandates also degraded mission capability. Units responsible for covert action, high-risk operational training, and sensitive overseas work saw their personnel threatened with termination or sidelining. In some cases, the only way to preserve operational readiness was for entire cadres of officers to falsify their records to remain on paper compliant. This compounded the moral injury. Officers were forced to choose between betraying their conscience and lying to preserve the mission. Both choices inflicted damage.

As this purge machinery ground forward, the war in Ukraine erupted. For years, Ukraine had served as a corridor for corruption, influence, and financial gamesmanship—the sudden reality of a large-scale conventional war altered priorities. Dark money projects and ideological crusades found themselves competing with battlefield realities, international pressure, and a complex escalation environment. It is reasonable to conclude that the invasion of Ukraine disrupted the internal purge timetable. The administration could no longer sustain the same level of focus on domestic ideological enforcement while managing a major foreign crisis in a theater saturated with intelligence and military equities.

Parallel to this, the DEI apparatus that had spearheaded much of the internal revolution began to show signs of fatigue and failure. The most revealing moment came in the summer of 2024 inside the CIA. At a meeting of Resource Groups, the senior psychologist tasked with leading DEI initiatives effectively held a referendum on the entire project. According to officers present, she launched into a furious, emotionally charged acknowledgment that DEI had failed to achieve its goals.

There was another consequence of the mandate era and the broader ideological struggle. For the first time in American history, employees from nearly every sector of the executive branch filed legal actions against their own government in large numbers. The courts were flooded with cases that pitted citizens and career civil servants against the agencies they served. This produced precisely the kind of overload that foreign adversaries like the Chinese Communist Party have long sought to engineer. Their information campaigns and influence operations have openly aimed at overburdening American institutions. Here, ironically, the executive branch itself became the primary source of the overload on the judiciary.

In strategic terms, the damage inflicted upon the United States over these years is severe, but not fatal. The revolution failed to consolidate. The purge was not fully completed. The DEI movement inside key institutions cracked under its own contradictions. Ordinary Americans resisted. A remnant inside the federal workforce refused to bow. Courts, despite all the pressure, blocked some of the most extreme measures. Reality asserted itself against ideology.

The question now is what must be done. The path forward requires more than outrage. It involves policy and structure.

First, the architecture of the modern welfare state, which has turned large segments of the population into political clients, must be dismantled. Lyndon Johnson’s Great Society and its subsequent expansions helped create a permanent dependency machine that can be weaponized for revolutionary ends. Rolling back these structures will not be easy, but it is essential if Americans are to recover a culture of responsibility, family formation, and self-government.

Second, the country must deliberately cultivate the nuclear family, childbearing, and stable communities. This is not sentimental nostalgia. It is a matter of national survival. A society that abandons marriage, parenthood, and property stewardship will not endure. Incentives, policies, and cultural signals must all point toward building households capable of raising the next generation with a sense of identity and duty.

Third, American education must be reclaimed from red-washed narratives. Civics, honest history, and a clear account of the crimes of Marxist regimes must be restored. Children and young adults must understand both the promise and the fragility of ordered liberty. If they do not know what distinguishes this Republic from totalitarian systems, they will not recognize the danger until it is too late.

Fourth, the intelligence community must be reformed so that it returns to its proper mission of defending the nation against foreign threats rather than serving as an instrument of domestic social engineering. This means rooting out politicized structures, prohibiting the use of intelligence tools against the domestic political opposition except in the narrowest and most clearly justified circumstances, and rebuilding a culture of professional, apolitical service.

Fifth, society must recover a sense of moral coherence. A nation cannot survive long when it denies reality in matters as fundamental as truth, sex, responsibility, and the value of human life. While America is home to many faith traditions, there must be a shared recognition that there are objective standards that cannot simply be rewritten by fashion or decree. Without this, the law becomes only an instrument of power.

Finally, there must be a national effort to educate the public about the patterns, methods, and vocabulary of Marxist and neo-Marxist movements. This does not require witch hunts. It requires clarity. Once citizens understand how these systems operate, they are far harder to manipulate; the mask slips. The slogans no longer suffice, and the glamour of the revolution fades.

There remains, inside this country and inside its battered institutions, a remnant of men and women who never surrendered. They stayed at their posts. They told the truth, quietly or openly, when it was dangerous to do so. They refused to consent to lies. They suffered for it. Careers were derailed. Retirements were accelerated. Friendships were broken. Some were imprisoned. Many were slandered, but they are still here.

Like the Founders before them, they pledged their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor, not in the abstract but in the daily grind of saying no to a machine that demanded their submission. The cost has been high. Yet the Republic still stands. That is not an accident. It is the fruit of Providence and the courage of ordinary people acting in extraordinary times.

For the God of our fathers. For the country we inherited. For the Republic that must not fall. The struggle is not over. But neither is the story of America.

The American people have just taken their first full breath after surviving an attempt to smother the Republic through a Marxist-inspired cultural campaign carried out largely through the administrative state, media, academia, and politicized elements of the national security bureaucracy. Most citizens did not fully perceive it while it was happening. Many in the intelligence community either passively accepted it or actively furthered it. The architects of this project are not finished, but their effort has been damaged and delayed. It is only by the grace of God that the country has endured to this point.

The American version of the cultural revolution is distinct from the Maoist model that ravaged China in the twentieth century. It did not coalesce around a single charismatic revolutionary figure. Instead, it spread along the arteries of bureaucracy, higher education, corporate structures, and activist networks. The long march through the institutions, as described by Antonio Gramsci, became the operational template. Rather than Red Guards filling the streets under the orders of an identifiable supreme leader, the United States experienced a coordinated convergence of agencies, NGOs, foundations, media outlets, and activist fronts, all advancing the same ideological project under different labels.

Because federal agencies differ widely in size, mission, culture, and internal resistance, this revolution unfolded unevenly. It never achieved total dominance in a single decisive stroke. Instead, it advanced by fragmentary gains and suffered fragmentary defeats. Wherever the ideological project captured an HR department, a training pipeline, a public school system, or a central media platform, it encountered resistance in state governments, independent media, individual courts, and networks of citizens who refused to comply. This piecemeal quality of implementation slowed the collapse and gave the American people time to see what was happening and respond.

Even as these battles played out in public, darker currents moved beneath the surface. We now assess that thousands of religious and conservative federal employees were quietly identified and referred to a little-known federal entity, the Pre-Trial Services Agency. Accounts and initial documentation indicate that this agency may have been used to catalog individuals solely on the basis of ideology and religious conviction, under the pretext of January 6, and vaccine-related non-compliance. The intention appears to have been not only administrative removal but also potential criminalization. This matter demands immediate, transparent investigation by any future administration that claims to be serious about the rule of law.

To understand the broader context, it is necessary to define what we mean by the concept of the welfare state. We are not merely describing traditional social programs. We refer instead to a constellation of fully funded professional activist groups that present themselves as separate causes but in reality form a single revolutionary bloc. Over the last decade, organizations under the banners of antifascism, racial justice, radical feminism, abortion on demand, certain LGBTQ plus factions, environmental extremism, and gun control advocacy have shown remarkable cohesion. They share donors, staff, narrative frameworks, and street-level tactics. Their membership overlaps. Their messaging is synchronized. They rapidly support one another’s campaigns and protests.

These groups present themselves as grassroots movements. In reality, they function much more like a professionalized revolutionary caste. Their core is composed not of ordinary citizens but of trained activists who treat agitation as a full-time occupation. They are funded through a mix of private foundations, wealthy donors, and, in some cases, federal and state resources. They serve as the street and digital arm of a broader ideological project whose goal is not reform but transformation. They are bound together by a worldview that is explicitly revolutionary and implicitly Marxist, even if many of their foot soldiers do not use that language.

Within this structure, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion plays a central role. DEI is not a harmless corporate fad. It is a cultural and psychological weapon system. In practice, DEI training and enforcement operate as a mechanism for behavioral conditioning, using guilt, struggle sessions, and the constant threat of social or professional punishment to bring individuals into line. The language of microaggressions, privilege, and systemic bias functions as a soft form of ideological policing. It compels people to monitor their speech, second-guess their instincts, and submit to an ever-expanding set of forbidden words and mandatory rituals.

This is not inclusion. It is coerced conformity disguised as virtue. The outcomes within institutions are fear, silence, and self-censorship. People learn quickly that specific questions cannot be asked, certain facts cannot be stated, and certain perspectives cannot be acknowledged without risking their careers. This is not an accidental side effect. It is the point. If you can compel people to lie about obvious realities in public, you own them. DEI is therefore best understood as a domestic application of political reeducation, aligned with Marxist and neo-Marxist approaches to cultural change.

Red washing is the term we use for the systematic erasure of material that exposes Marxism’s history, tactics, and consequences. When civics and traditional American history are removed from curricula and replaced with grievance narratives, the ground is prepared for a new ideology. When the record of socialist atrocities is buried or dismissed, whole generations lose the ability to recognize patterns that their grandparents would have seen immediately. This did not happen accidentally. Higher education, media, and entertainment became primary targets for this rewriting of memory.

By 2020, the United States had been subjected to decades of this cultural reshaping. The country entered that year already weakened and divided. The combined impact of a global pandemic, a Chinese Communist Party information campaign, and unprecedented civil unrest brought the country to a state of exhaustion. Law enforcement was undermanned and demoralized. The medical system was stretched to the limit. Schools at every level were shuttered or reduced to screens. The basic functions that distinguish a first-world nation were placed under siege.

These conditions were ideal for revolutionary actors who understood the Bolshevik concept of the spark. In Mao’s China, youth brigades became instruments of chaos once police authority had been stripped and traditional structures weakened. In the United States, policies calling for the defunding and delegitimizing of police, combined with political protection for rioters, produced something similar in spirit. The rolling riots of 2020 were not a spontaneous eruption. They were a conditioning phase, designed to hollow out public confidence, normalize political violence from the left, and set the emotional stage for a more targeted crisis.

That crisis came on January 6. Here, the doctrine of moderated violence is essential to understand. This tactic seeks to provoke an adversary into a desperate or unwise act that can then be weaponized to justify a crackdown. For a year, Americans watched their cities burn and were told it was mostly peaceful. Then, in a single day, a protest on Capitol grounds was framed as an insurrection, an existential threat to “democracy,” and the moral foundation for a years-long campaign of arrests, surveillance, and persecution. The left’s riots stopped instantly. The narrative flipped overnight. That abrupt shift reveals design, not coincidence.

January 6 was the planned inflection point that allowed the bureaucratic and activist alliance to declare open season on conservative and religious Americans. It became the lens through which all dissent could be labeled dangerous and disloyal. The people who entered the Capitol that day, many of them peaceful and bewildered, became the pretext for a broader project aimed at remaking the national security apparatus from within.

What came next moved beyond street-level activism or cultural capture. It entered the bloodstream of the national security state. The aftermath of January 6, the collapse of Afghanistan, and the federal vaccine mandates combined into an unprecedented attempt to remake the federal workforce through coercion, intimidation, and ideological purification. Inside the CIA and across the national security apparatus, the internal revolution reached its apex and then began to fracture under its own contradictions.

Societal collapse is never a singular event. It is a process.

WASHINGTON (AP) — A Navy admiral told lawmakers Thursday that there was no “kill them all” order from Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth but grave questions and concerns remain as Congress scrutinizes an attack that killed two survivors of an initial strike on an alleged drug boat in international waters near Venezuela.

Adm. Frank “Mitch” Bradley "was very clear that he was given no such order, to give no quarter or to kill them all,” said Sen. Tom Cotton, who heads the Senate Intelligence Committee, as he exited a classified briefing.

While Cotton, R-Ark., defended the attack, Democrats who were also briefed and saw video of the survivors being killed questioned the Trump administration’s rationale and said the incident was deeply concerning.

“The order was basically: Destroy the drugs, kill the 11 people on the boat,” said Washington Rep. Adam Smith, the top Democrat on the House Armed Services Committee. Smith, who is demanding further investigation, said the survivors were “basically two shirtless people clinging to the bow of a capsized and inoperable boat, drifting in the water.”

Bradley was joined at the Capitol by Gen. Dan Caine, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, for briefings at a potentially crucial moment in the unfolding congressional investigation into how Hegseth handled the operation. There are questions about whether the strike may have violated the law.

Congressional investigation gets underway

Lawmakers want a full accounting after The Washington Post reported that Bradley on Sept. 2 ordered an attack on the survivors to comply with a directive from Hegseth to “kill everybody.” Legal experts say the attack amounts to a crime if the survivors were targeted.

Cotton said that from watching the video, he “saw two survivors trying to flip a boat loaded with drugs bound for United States back over so they could stay in the fight.”

Connecticut Rep. Jim Himes, the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, described the survivors' state differently. “You have two individuals in clear distress without any means of locomotion, with a destroyed vessel, were killed by the United States," he said.

Underpinning President Donald Trump's campaign against suspected traffickers is his argument that drug cartels amount to armed combatants because their cargo poses a threat to American lives.

Smith acknowledged there was likely cocaine on the boat, but he objects to the Republican administration’s rationale for continued attacks on alleged drug runners who may or may not be heading to the United States. “That’s really the core of the problem with all of this,” he said. “That incredibly broad definition, I think, is what sets in motion all of these problems about using lethal force and using the military.”

Cotton said it was “gratifying” that the U.S. military was taking “the battle” to cartels. Other lawmakers, including a handful of Republicans, worry that the campaign is pushing against the bounds of laws that govern armed conflict.

Among those also briefed were the leaders of the House and Senate Armed Services committees and the Intelligence Committee in each chamber. Several of the lawmakers in the briefings declined to comment as they exited.

Democrats are demanding the release of the full video of the Sept. 2 attack, as well as written records of the orders and any directives from Hegseth. Republicans, who control the national security committees, have not publicly called for those documents, but have pledged a thorough review.

Who is Adm. Bradley?

At the time of the attack, Bradley was the commander of Joint Special Operations Command, overseeing coordinated operations between the military's elite special operations units out of Fort Bragg in North Carolina. About a month after the strike, he was promoted to commander of U.S. Special Operations Command.

His military career, spanning more than three decades, was mostly spent serving in the elite Navy SEALs and commanding joint operations. He was among the first special forces officers to deploy to Afghanistan after the Sept. 11 attacks. His latest promotion to admiral was approved by unanimous voice vote in the Senate this year, and Democratic and Republican senators praised his record.

Sen. Thom Tillis, R-N.C., has described Bradley as among those who are “rock solid” and “the most extraordinary people that have ever served in the military.”

But lawmakers like Tillis have also made it clear they expect a reckoning if it is found that survivors were targeted. “Anybody in the chain of command that was responsible for it, that had vision of it, needs to be held accountable,” he said.

What else are lawmakers seeking?

The scope of the investigation is unclear, but there is other documentation of the strike that could fill in what happened. Obtaining that information, though, will largely depend on action from Republican lawmakers — a potentially painful prospect for them if it puts them at odds with the president.

Rhode Island Sen. Jack Reed, the top Democrat on the Armed Services Committee, said he and the Senate Armed Services Committee chair, GOP Sen. Roger Wicker have formally requested the executive orders authorizing the operations and the complete videos from the strikes. They are also seeking the intelligence that identified the vessels as legitimate targets, the rules of engagement for the attacks and any criteria used to determine who was a combatant and who was a civilian.

Republican lawmakers who are close to Trump have sought to defend Hegseth.

More than 80 people have been killed in the series of strikes that started in September.

Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., said it was clear that Hegseth is responsible, even if the defense secretary did not explicitly order a second attack.

“He may not have been in the room, but he was in the loop,” Blumenthal said. “And it was his order that was instrumental and foreseeably resulted in the deaths of these survivors.”

Perhaps if Arizona Democratic Sen. Mark Kelly stopped talking, we’d stop talking bad about him. But, the guy makes it a bit too easy when he keeps his mouth open just enough for words to fall out of it.

Kelly doesn’t even have to open his fat trap on TV, either. Take his recent actions over Signalgate, a months-old scandal Kelly — who’s likely running for the Democratic nomination for president in 2028 — is milking for all that it’s worth.

In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Kelly said that a Pentagon watchdog’s report concluded that War Secretary Pete Hegseth had violated departmental rules when he had a conversation about strikes in Yemen on a group chat on the app Signal.

Two problems with that. First, Hegseth has broad powers of declassification. Second, the declassified version of the report isn’t set to be publicly released until Thursday. Kelly made his comments Wednesday — after, according to CNN, the classified version was sent to Congress.

Senators do not have broad powers of declassification. You might begin to see the problem here.

But first, Kelly’s remarks: “They very clearly stated he should not be using his cellphone and putting… this kind of information on an unclassified system,” he said.

However, Missouri Republican Sen. Eric Schmitt said he’d seen the files and called it a “nothing burger.”

“The arc of the story is that it’s just a never ending stream of efforts to undermine Pete Hegseth, right? The whole controversy,” Schmitt said.

“So they didn’t get him in the confirmation process? Make a big deal out of this… So it’s just an ongoing effort. I wouldn’t expect it to end with this, but I think again, the President has faith in Secretary Hegseth. I think he’s doing a great job, and it is what it is.”

Let’s get beyond the fact that Kelly and Hegseth have been sparring over the fact Kelly is among the “Seditious Six” — the Democrat lawmakers behind this video encouraging disobedience within the ranks because they don’t like the president:

Of course, nobody will likely charge Kelly — and not just because, I’m sure, he would try to weasel out of it. Perhaps he could claim that he was looking at the declassified version of the report. That likely wouldn’t make sense, especially since it wasn’t available.

But, perhaps most importantly, it’s worth noting that nobody seems to have the appetite to take on Kelly for his behavior — yet. We’ll see if that changes. The only thing that’s for certain is that the Iron Law of Woke Projection remains undefeated: Once again we have a Democrat falsely accusing a political enemy of the very thing that Democrat is doing. Nice.

The Department of Homeland Security arrested another Afghan evacuee Wednesday, accusing Jaan Shah Safi of supporting the terrorist group ISIS-K.

Mr. Safi was arrested in Waynesboro, Virginia.

The department said he came to the U.S. in September 2021, as part of tens of thousands of Afghans airlifted out of their home country by President Biden.

His arrest follows that of Rahmanullah Lakanwal, an Afghan accused of slaying one National Guard soldier and wounding another near the White House, and Mohammad Dawood Alokozay, charged with saying he wanted to conduct a suicide bomb attack in Texas.

“The Biden administration created one of the worst national security crises in American history,” DHS Secretary Kristi Noem said.

All three men were part of the chaotic evacuation the Biden administration orchestrated as its troop pullout left Afghanistan vulnerable to a Taliban takeover in the summer of 2021.

Biden officials said their goal was to evacuate Afghans who had assisted the U.S. war effort. But the operation was plagued with problems, including Afghans with no connection to the U.S. gaining spots on planes and migrants not getting full vetting before reaching the U.S.

An inspector general earlier this year said the airlift allowed at least 82 people who had been on the terrorism watchlist to gain entry to the U.S.

That includes 55 who were already on the watchlist before the summer of 2021 or were placed there during the evacuation, and 27 more who weren’t added to the list until after settling in the U.S.

Other Afghan evacuees have had criminal entanglements.

Nasir Tawhedi, who also arrived in the 2021 airlift, has pleaded guilty to a role in a plot to carry out an Election Day shooting attack last year. Authorities disrupted the plan before the attack could be carried out.

Shah Mahmood Selab, another evacuee who arrived in November 2021, was convicted of coercion of a minor after authorities said he molested a 12-year-old boy at a public park in New Mexico in 2022.

Last week, at the Farragut West Metro stop here in the capital of the free world and about two blocks from the White House, Rahmanullah Lakanwal — who had engaged in combat on behalf of American interests in Afghanistan and been brought to America because of that effort — shot two National Guard members. One subsequently died from her wounds. During the shooting, just in case the purpose wasn’t clear, Mr. Lakanwal offered the obligatory “Allahu akbar.”

A few thousand miles away, in what remains of the United Kingdom, British citizens continue to struggle to reach a reckoning with their story of immigration gone wrong. In the town of Rotherham from 1997 to 2013, somewhere around 1,400 young women and children, some as young as 11, were beaten, abducted, sexually exploited, trafficked and/or raped by multiple males, most of them of Pakistani origin, according to a 2014 report commissioned by the Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council.

Unfortunately and unsurprisingly, the report disappoints. Once past the executive summary, it runs another 138 pages before it mentions the role of the Pakistani “community” in the crimes.

The report writers did try to signal the fact that this was pretty much a cultural thing and that silence about the crimes was enforced by the diversity police. “By far the majority of perpetrators were described as ‘Asian’ by victims, yet throughout the entire period, councillors did not engage directly with the Pakistani-heritage community to discuss how best they could jointly address the issue … for fear of being thought racist; others remembered clear direction from their managers not to do so.”

There you have it. No one wanted to do anything that raised questions about the unassimilated in their midst. What better epitaph could one write for a culture and a society that is slowly dying because it will not defend itself from an outside force? It is the story of the fully “enlightened” and completely enervated old Europe. From Ireland to Germany, the officials who are supposed to protect and defend their own nations and tribes continue to fail.

Indeed, the only reason the horror of Rotherham has been discussed recently is that Elon Musk suggested that British Prime Minister Keir Starmer should quit because he didn’t address the criminality during his tenure as the country’s leading prosecutor. Mr. Musk accused Mr. Starmer of being “complicit in the rape of Britain.” He may be right. The law enforcement establishment in England let hundreds of crimes go on annually for more than 15 years without doing a single blessed thing.

In a larger sense, the two instances of criminality — systemic rape and human trafficking in Britain and an assassination of an American soldier two blocks from the White House — are linked to the imperial designs of both nations. It turns out that when you wander about the world killing people and expanding your power and influence, lots of times you bring the world back with you. That almost always turns out to be suboptimal for the invader. Just ask the Romans about the Visigoths, or Minnesotans about Somalis.

The Biden White House didn’t just get sloppy; they deliberately punched a hole in our national security. They created a special carve-out for people who, by any sane measure, should have been immediately disqualified for their ties to a brutal terrorist regime. And no, these weren’t just the heroic translators who risked everything for our troops. This policy specifically excused Afghans who worked inside the Taliban government—the same medieval death cult that gave al-Qaeda a safe haven to plan 9/11.

The numbers are just staggering—and infuriating. A DHS report revealed that the Biden administration greenlit a jaw-dropping 6,848 of these terrorism-related exemptions in fiscal year 2024. Under President Trump in 2020? Just 361. This wasn’t a bureaucratic oversight; it was a firehose. Among those welcomed in were 374 Taliban “civil servants” and an unbelievable 3,134 individuals who provided “limited material support” to a terror group. The excuse that they might be harmless “doctors and teachers” is the kind of naive nonsense that gets people killed.

Blood on the Streets of Washington

Don’t ever let a politician tell you these DC policies are harmless. Abstract decisions have real consequences, and we saw the inevitable, bloody harvest of these seeds of weakness just before Thanksgiving. An Afghan national, Rahmanullah Lakanwal, allegedly murdered a National Guard member and nearly killed another in what President Trump correctly called “a monstrous, ambush-style attack just steps away from the White House.”

Lakanwal’s alleged rampage is a direct result of a rot in our system. When you create an official culture of excuse-making for people tied to terrorist movements, you are inviting this exact kind of violence. You are abandoning your post. An American soldier is dead because our previous leaders chose to see the world through ideological rose-colored glasses instead of facing reality.

A New Sheriff in Town

Thankfully, the adults are back in the room. The era of dangerous incompetence is over, and the new administration isn’t hesitating to clean up the catastrophic mess. During a recent cabinet meeting, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem called it what it is. She said Joe Biden “used this department to invade the country with terrorists. He opened up the borders, let anybody come in that wanted to… So it’s our job to get ’em out.”

That’s the sound of common sense making a comeback. Secretary Noem has already announced the hiring of 10,000 new ICE officers to give our laws some teeth again. This isn’t complicated; it’s basic national hygiene. Under President Trump, the message couldn’t be clearer: America will no longer put the interests of foreign nationals with disturbing connections ahead of the safety of its own citizens.

The sacred contract between the government and the American people is finally being honored again. For four years, we watched that contract get shredded by reckless policies that treated our security as an inconvenience. It was a disaster.

The gate is locked. The priority is clear. America First is back.
