President Trump says his main goal is winning the war against Iran and keeping nuclear weapons out of the regime’s hands, rather than scrambling to revive a ceasefire in the region.

Eventually, he said, Tehran will realize it can’t take any more punishment and will negotiate on U.S. terms.

“I think we just want to win,” Mr. Trump said during a Cabinet meeting at Camp David, the presidential retreat in rural Maryland. “We’re doing very well, we’re trying to be nice, as nice as you can be in a situation like that.”

Mr. Trump was responding to a question about reviving ceasefire talks after days of attacks in the region between the U.S. and Iran.

The U.S. and Israel launched airstrikes against Iran on Feb. 28 to prevent the regime from getting a nuke.

“They cannot have a nuclear weapon, and they won’t,” Mr. Trump said Friday.

He said Iran will try to “fight onward” despite suffering big losses to their military infrastructure.

He said attacks will continue until he hears the right things from the Iranian side.

“We’ll be hitting them. We’ll be hitting them very hard,” Mr. Trump said. “At some point, they’re going to say, ’We just can’t take it anymore.’”

The president said he’s losing whatever faith he had in the Iranians, complaining they “always want to talk” but break their word after negotiations.

“They’ll get weaker,” he said, “and then they peter out.”
