As we reported earlier, it looks like Iran may be on the brink. 

Their leverage on the Strait of Hormuz appears to have evaporated, with vessels now taking the U.S. southern route by Oman rather than the route the Iranians demand. 

The economy is in shambles, and the Iranian parliamentary speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf even admitted they "cannot endure" if their economic situation continues. Plus, even more economic pain is coming as President Donald Trump and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent have promised an "Economic D-Day" endgame was coming at dawn with more sanctions, including on those who would deal with Iran. Bessent called it the "single greatest financial offensive ever marshaled against an adversary."

Now President Trump has weighed in on Monday with a simple line that indicates how close and problematic he thinks things are for the Iranian regime. "IRAN IS COMPLETELY COLLAPSING!!!" he posted.

You can see Foreign Minister Abbas Aragchi trying to dissemble about what's going on, but he can't get around the problems they are in with the naval blockade and the economy. 

They didn't even have this kind of pressure when the people last revolted in January. The resistance has already indicated that the revolution could be any day now.

As we reported, the Iranian regime has lost its grip on the one piece of leverage it may have had with the Strait of Hormuz in its battle with the U.S. 

Ship traffic has greatly increased by 400 percent over the past couple of weeks. That's thanks to the U.S. helping to shepherd vessels through the area. While it's still not up to the pre-military action traffic, it's increasing, and it shows people are thumbing their noses at the regime. 

Add that to their economy being in free fall, and the civilian leaders in Iran know they are in trouble. As we noted, the Iranian president, Masoud Pezeshkian, was arguing they needed to bring the war to an "end now," while they could do so in a "position of strength and dignity,” Translation: while they could pretend before the complete collapse. He appeared to take a shot at the hardliners, criticizing people "sitting outside the circle" who "do not know the state of the government."

But Pezeshkian wasn't the only one admitting there were big problems and flashing warning signs for the regime. 

“No matter how strong we are militarily, if the people are hungry and we do not have financial circulation, economic growth and domestic production, we will not endure,” parliamentary speaker Iran’s chief negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said while visiting Iraq on Friday.

In another swipe at Iran’s hawks, he added, “As someone who has experienced war, we understand the true value of peace.”

On top of that, Iran’s central bank governor admitted on state TV that the U.S. naval blockade has stopped Iran from selling its oil, which is a critical part of its revenue. 

“It is a reality that we are not exporting oil,” Abdolnaser Hemmati said. “The Americans have frozen our foreign exchange reserves and do not allow us to access them.”

The blockade is also preventing critical products from coming into Iran. On top of that, the United Arab Emirates’ decision this week to impose a total embargo on trade and financial transactions with Iran will cut off a vital lifeline.

The numbers are bad. 

The economic toll is already catastrophic. Inflation has soared above 80%, with prices for certain food staples up 100%. The currency, which triggered nationwide protests late last year after it collapsed, has lost a further 30% of its value this year.

President Donald Trump and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent have already promised even more, with an "Economic D-Day" coming. 

It sounds like they are teetering on the brink.

Bessent has been the Trump administration's point man on economic sanctions against the Islamic Regime, and his posting on X hinted that a new financial offensive – aimed at cutting Iran off from virtually any remaining sources of trade or financing – was already underway.

The Islamic Republic has subsisted by dressing extortion as security guarantees. It has drawn strength from a calculus that regards Iranian retaliation as certain and American enforcement as negotiable. Under President Trump, that era is over. And those who fear the danger of defying Tehran ought not to discount the cost of testing Washington.

The President has created the conditions to leverage every agency, every authority and action many assumed we would never summon. Our objective is to sever every economic lifeline that sustains the tyrannical regime until Tehran stands alone.

Bessent's warning seems to reach beyond Iran, extending to countries, companies, and banks that are currently doing business with Tehran, and could signal that the administration believes it has achieved its initial goals of wiping out Iran's military and degrading its nuclear capabilities. An economic "D-Day" could be the next phase of the all-out offensive.

There's also a diplomatic element at play here: the Trump administration is, once again, putting other countries in the position of having to decide between playing nice with Iran or continued access to U.S.-led financial systems.

Secretary Bessent is scheduled to hold a press conference at 2 PM ET Monday to reveal more details.

The Trump administration has in recent days warned Iran of an impending “economic D-Day” if it doesn’t promptly comply with U.S. demands.

The campaign began Wednesday with President Donald Trump accusing Iran of having “failed to take” the opportunity to make a deal and issued a warning of “economic warfare and isolation on an unprecedented scale.”

The president also weaved Iran’s allies into the threat.

“Today, I am also announcing that ANY country that allows its financial institutions, businesses, airports, or government entities to provide any type of lifeline to Iran will itself face TREMENDOUS Economic Consequences. … This will be an ECONOMIC D-DAY,”  he wrote.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent doubled down on the administration’s threats in a Financial Times commentary published Sunday in which he cited the World War II actions of President Franklin D. Roosevelt and U.K. Prime Minister Winston Churchill.

“In 1943, the Allied powers convened the Tehran Conference to plot the course of an uncharted act,” he wrote. “As Roosevelt and Churchill weighed a campaign that would culminate in the Normandy landings, they asked themselves what could be done ‘to bring the greatest pressure to bear on the enemy’.

“History has returned that question to Tehran. And the moment has arrived to answer it with the full weight of American resolve.”

He continued by noting that although the Trump administration has decimated Iran’s military capabilities and its nuclear program, it’s now time for an “economic D-Day” that’ll not only target Iran but also its allies as well.

“The world should understand that our objective is to sever every economic lifeline that sustains the tyrannical regime until Tehran stands alone,” Bessent explained in both the Financial Times and an accompanying post to the social media platform X.

“And if, as the regime’s grasp on power crumbles alongside its economy, Iran resorts to military action against US forces or its Gulf neighbours, make no mistake: President Trump will respond swiftly and decisively,” he wrote.

“The president has created the conditions to leverage every agency, every authority and action many assumed we would never summon,” he added.

All this comes days after Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf issued a shocking public statement warning the rogue nation’s leaders that their military alone can’t protect them if the Iranian people are starving and economic conditions continue to deteriorate.

“We are hungry, we cannot survive,” he said, according to the Middle Eastern news outlet Al Bawaba. “No matter how much military power we have, if people are hungry and we don’t have financial circulation, economic growth and domestic production, we will not endure.”

Meanwhile, Iran’s currency has dropped to a “record low against [the] dollar,” according to CNN.

“Iran’s ​currency – the rial – has dropped ⁠to a record ⁠low of more ‌than ⁠two million to the US dollar on the open market,” the network reported.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is threatening serious restrictions on countries that are still financially cooperating with the Islamic Republic of Iran in “Operation Economic Outcast,” as the Trump administration is hoping to economically cripple the nation.

Last week, President Donald Trump declared “ECONOMIC D-DAY,” effectively noting a new phase of the conflict. Bessent noted during a press conference on Monday that multiple countries are in communication with the U.S. after the announcement.

“Any entity that facilitates money laundering on behalf of Iran will be removed from the U.S. dollar system. The clock just started ticking. The new sectoral sanctions determinations issued today target five of Iran’s most vital lifelines that it exploits in other countries: digital assets, technology, gold, aviation and shipping,” Bessent said.

“These measures broaden secondary sanctions risk for anyone foolish enough to continue conducting business with this regime, and will accelerate the speed with which we pursue them,” he added, noting that the Office of Foreign Assets Control “is also sanctioning over 60 entities, individuals, and vessels around the world that enable the Iranian regime to procure illicit nuclear and missile technology, conduct cyber operations, and generate oil revenue.”

“This is a sustained campaign to collapse every last option for Iran,” the secretary continued.

In Trump's post last week, he said that "ANY country that allows its financial institutions, businesses, airports, or government entities to provide any type of lifeline to Iran will itself face TREMENDOUS Economic Consequences."

Iranian Foreign Affairs Minister Abbas Araghchi blew off the Trump administration's new economic plans against the country.

"The so-called 'Economic D-Day' is a diversion from America's own crisis: unprecedented debt & surging interest costs. Doubling down on failed policies will only bring further defeat—and enmity of Iranians. US economic terrorism threatens global economy and sovereignty worldwide," he posted to X on Thursday.

Key Iranian officials warned of “seismic” retaliation against the country’s Middle East neighbors and the U.S. ahead of what the Trump administration describes as a massive new economic sanctions push, expected to be announced Monday.

Mohsen Rezaei, the recently appointed secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, told Iranian state-run media that any nation joining Washington’s economic sanctions campaign against Tehran will be considered an enemy. He also threatened that Iran will do whatever it can to fully stop energy exports from the region, signaling that Tehran is doubling down on its most powerful remaining leverage: squeezing the global oil market to extract a more favorable deal with the Trump administration.

“If they start such an action, we will not allow a single drop of oil to pass through the Persian Gulf. Oil will leave neither through the Strait of Hormuz nor through the Persian Gulf,” he said.

“If [President Trump] wants to do something, we will retaliate in a seismic manner,” Mr. Rezaei told Iran’s IRIB state broadcaster in an interview that aired Saturday. “Any country that takes part in imposing economic restrictions on us will be regarded as an enemy.”

Mr. Rezaei, widely viewed as a hard-liner whose appointment signals a tougher Iranian stance against the U.S. and other Persian Gulf states, specifically warned that Tehran could target other oil-shipping routes outside the region.

Maritime traffic through the crucial Strait of Hormuz is already at a near-standstill as the Iran war nears the six-month mark. The Trump administration appears set to use economic sanctions, rather than more direct military strikes, to pressure Iran into a deal that fully opens the strait to commercial shipping.

Iran is suffering greatly under the weight of a U.S. naval blockade and already harsh sanctions aimed at economically isolating the Islamic regime. Now the administration is ready to go further, though the exact details of its new economic sanctions plan have not been disclosed.

Mr. Trump announced an upcoming round of sanctions, which he dubbed “economic D-Day,” and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent amplified the announcement last week. Those restrictions are likely to serve as a substitute for further major U.S. military operations, Mr. Bessent said.

“It is time for our allies and the rest of the world to make a decision,” Mr. Bessent told CNBC in a Thursday interview. “We are going to squash the economy of this murderous regime.”

The U.S. blockade has had a massive impact on Iran’s oil economy, which has long stood as its economic lifeline even during periods of intense strain. Crude oil production in the country has fallen dramatically in recent months, now standing barely above domestic needs, according to oil-tracking firm Tanker Trackers.

Top leaders of the Iranian government acknowledge that the situation cannot last. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian told state media Sunday that his nation must get out of the economic crisis.

“Capital and money are extremely sensitive to risk,” Mr. Pezeshkian said. “We have to remove this risk from the country.”

Mr. Pezeshkian’s comments underscore what appears to be a growing split within the Iranian government over how to handle negotiations with the U.S. Some favor diplomacy, and others are more willing to escalate militarily or otherwise lash out against America and its allies.

Should Iran retaliate militarily, it could once again target U.S. military bases in the region. Previous attacks on those installations have led to American casualties and the destruction of U.S. military equipment.

Iran could also try to further clamp down on energy exports from the Persian Gulf. In concert with proxy allies such as the Yemen-based Houthis, Iran could try to choke other oil shipping routes from the region or perhaps aggressively target key pieces of energy infrastructure in Saudi Arabia or other oil-producing Middle Eastern nations.

Critics of the war against Iran say it has become clear that the U.S. has failed in its military objectives.

“What I reject is the catastrophic leadership of Donald Trump and [Israeli Prime Minister] Benjamin Netanyahu that has led to this debacle in the Middle East against Iran, a six-month war that was launched illegally, that was conceived incompetently, and that has been lost,” Rep. Jake Auchincloss, Massachusetts Democrat and retired Marine, told “Fox News Sunday.”

A state-run media outlet in Iran recently released a video targeting President Donald Trump’s youngest son, Barron, claiming that a $10 million bounty has been put on his head.

The clip is titled “Where and how should we kill Barron Trump?” and was published by a Tehran-based outlet with supposed ties to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, according to a Monday article by Euronews.

In addition, the video claimed Barron is being “fully monitored” and depicted virtual images of the dorms at New York University’s Constance Milstein & Family Global Academic Center.

It was also posted to the social media site X Sunday by “Israel War Room.” The clip opened with a disturbing image accompanied by the message “Where to Kill Barron Trump?” spelled out in red letters that appeared to be dripping blood.

The nearly three-minute-long narration suggested various methods for penetrating Barron’s security net, specifically citing escort vehicles and the positioning of his Secret Service detail.

Moreover, the propaganda piece claimed that Barron has been privately communicating with people on platforms like Xbox when his security detail is not around. These claims, including whether the bounty is legitimate, could not be verified by Euronews or the New York Post.

The New York Post did, however, include a translation of the video’s conclusion, which proclaimed, “This is just the beginning! Barron Trump, wait for us!” The newspaper also reported that the narrator said “many would be willing” to kill the president’s son.

This isn’t the first video of its kind. Last month, an IRGC-linked media outlet, Tasnim News Agency, published a clip entitled “How to Kill Melania Trump,” targeting her for assassination by listing stores that she likes to shop at.

Iran has made several direct threats against President Trump’s life as well, dating back to 2020, when he ordered the killing of Iranian commander Qassem Soleimani.

One such plot forced Trump to switch planes and set up a decoy last month while he was visiting Turkey for a NATO summit.

Despite this, the president appears undeterred in his course of action, posting that “IRAN IS COMPLETELY COLLAPSING,” on Truth Social Monday.

Trump has repeatedly said that he’s left behind specific instructions “to just literally bomb” Iran “at levels that they’ve never seen before,” if any assassination plots come to fruition.

“I’ve left instructions, if they do it, they get obliterated. There won’t be anything left,” the president told reporters last month. “And they shouldn’t be able to do it. And Biden should have said that, but he never did; I don’t know why — lack of intelligence perhaps, but he never said it.”
