President Donald Trump said Sunday that he is nearing a decision on whether to reach a deal with Iran or launch another round of military strikes, as U.S. commanders reportedly prepare new attack options amid escalating threats from Tehran.
“Do I make a deal with them or do I finish them off? That’s the only question,” Trump said during an interview on Fox News’ Sunday Morning Futures.
“I have a decision to make. Do I finish it off, which would be very easy to do, or do I make a deal?” he continued. “Getting to be decision time.”

Behind Trump’s public deliberations, American military planners have assembled options for another major operation against Iran, including strikes on targets beyond those hit in previous campaigns.
U.S. Central Command has prepared strike plans that could be executed upon Trump’s authorization, The Hill reported Saturday, citing a source familiar with the preparations. Another source said military officials had presented multiple options to War Secretary Pete Hegseth, although the plans had not been finalized.

The preparations could encompass a broader range of targets than previous U.S. operations. According to a separate Saturday report by the New York Times, military planners have considered attacks on Iranian energy infrastructure and other economically vital facilities, while Trump has privately leaned toward authorizing another major round of strikes.
Although Trump has yet to authorize another round of strikes, the military preparations underscore the options available to the president as he approaches a decision on how to proceed with Tehran.
Trump also emphasized the pressure already being brought to bear on Tehran, pointing to American control of the Strait of Hormuz and the U.S. naval blockade that has severely restricted Iran’s oil exports.
“Remember, we now control the Hormuz Strait,” Trump said. “They get nothing. We get everything.”
The president also highlighted the recovery of commercial shipping through the strategic waterway under U.S. military protection, asserting that business through the strait now exceeds prewar levels.
“We’re doing more business through the Hormuz Strait today than went before the war started,” he said. “The Navy blockade, the Navy and our military are unbelievable.”
The Wall Street Journal reported last week that overall Middle Eastern oil shipments had surpassed prewar levels, reaching more than 24 million barrels per day, as Gulf producers increasingly relied on alternative export routes to maintain supplies despite disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz.
Trump also stressed that American surveillance continues to track Iran’s nuclear activities, singling out the fortified Pickaxe Mountain complex, which was not among the sites struck in earlier U.S. operations.

“We can read the badge on somebody’s shirt from space,” Trump said. “We know exactly what’s going on at Pickaxe Mountain.”
Trump said little activity had been detected at Pickaxe Mountain and other monitored sites, while reiterating that earlier American strikes had devastated Iran’s nuclear installations.
The possibility of renewed military action comes amid intelligence warnings that Iran has advanced plans to target American personnel abroad, including potentially lethal attacks against U.S. officials.
In a memorandum made public Friday, Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton warned Secretary of State Marco Rubio that Iranian efforts to target Americans had intensified, with plots to kill U.S. citizens reaching “advanced stages” in the Middle East and other countries.
Adding to those warnings, the New York Times reported Saturday that two Iranian officials, including a member of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, acknowledged plans to target American diplomats and personnel in retaliation for renewed U.S. strikes.
Asked Sunday about the intelligence surrounding Iran, Trump said he had received differing reports but declined to elaborate on their findings.

“Two very different sets of intelligence reports. I have them both, but they’re very different,” Trump said.
He said some intelligence had been declassified while other material remained classified, without explaining how the assessments differed.
The intelligence warning coincided with heightened security measures at U.S. diplomatic facilities across the Middle East, including personnel withdrawals, evacuation preparations, and security alerts at American posts throughout the region.
Responding to the prospect of renewed American attacks, Iranian parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf warned Sunday that Tehran would retaliate against any violation of its territory with a response beyond Washington’s expectations.
“We will not be intimidated,” Ghalibaf said, warning that Iran was prepared to deliver a response “beyond the enemy’s imagination” to any violation of its territory.

He added that threats of all-out war or assassination would not force Iran to retreat from its demands.
Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi also warned Sunday that another American attack would fail to force Iran into concessions.
“They have already done so twice and have seen the results,” Araghchi said. “If they want to try again, they know they will achieve no different outcome.”
A day earlier, Ebrahim Azizi, chairman of Iran’s parliamentary National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, issued a separate threat against Israel.
“A single miscalculation is all it takes: the occupied lands rendered uninhabitable in under an hour,” Azizi wrote Saturday, referring to Israel.

Iranian security officials have also threatened to attack undersea communications cables in the Persian Gulf if fighting resumes, raising the prospect of widespread disruptions to regional telecommunications and internet networks.
Even as Tehran threatens retaliation, Iranian officials continue to discuss negotiations while insisting that Washington first accept the regime’s conditions.
On Sunday, Abbas Gouzardi, a spokesman for Iran’s parliamentary speaker, said negotiations with Washington would remain “meaningless” unless the United States accepted seven conditions previously set by Tehran.
Trump has demanded a permanent agreement barring Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, while questioning if Tehran can be trusted to honor another deal.
The president had delivered a similar warning Friday in Fort Myers, Florida, raising the prospect of another round of the military campaign that devastated Iran’s forces and nuclear installations earlier this year.

“We may do another little Epic Fury,” Trump warned, referring to the U.S. military operation launched against Iran in February.
“Or they’ll agree. If they’re smart, they’ll just say, ‘Let’s get down to business,’” he continued. “I doubt they’ll do that because perhaps they are not smart.”
Despite the military preparations and his increasingly explicit warnings, Trump ruled out launching an attack on Sunday.
Asked by a reporter if the United States might strike Iran that day, Trump replied, “Would I tell you that?” before stating, “There will not be a strike today.”
Trump’s remarks left open the possibility of renewed military action, with U.S. commanders preparing strike options as the president weighs whether an agreement with Tehran is still possible — or whether to launch another round of attacks against the regime.

Iran’s foreign minister said Sunday that renewed threats of war from Washington will not change Tehran’s course, an approach the top U.S. intelligence official warns has grown more lethal to Americans abroad.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi vowed to resist pressure from Washington as political developments in both the U.S. and Israel ramp up pressure in the Middle East.
“Today, again war is being spoken about, but I am thinking about post-war status, whether a war occurs or not, our policies will remain in place,” Mr. Araghchi told a group of diplomats in Tehran.
“Everything has changed in our region,” he said. “After the recent war, nothing will be like the past.”
Trump administration officials have said that Iran’s tactics are shifting. As American and Israeli politics begin to impact the course of the war, Iran has begun planning attacks on American officials abroad, according to a memo to Secretary of State Marco Rubio from Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton.
The memo, first reported by Axios, outlines growing risks to U.S. officials — a dynamic that analysts warn could lead to broader conflict. The most recent intelligence revealed in the memo says that Iran is in the “advanced stages” of planning attacks.
“Iran has substantially increased efforts to target U.S. personnel,” the memo reads. “The lethal plotting efforts by the Iranians against U.S. citizens have reached advanced stages in both the Middle East and certain other countries.”
Mr. Clayton wrote that the intelligence community is making “every effort to downgrade as much intelligence as possible so you can share it with State Department personnel” rather than keeping it highly classified.
In a Financial Times op-ed on Wednesday, Mr. Araghchi said that his government “seeks a just and honorable deal with the U.S.” but said his country has “no trust whatsoever in the sincerity of the U.S. administration’s professed desire for peace with Iran.”
Mr. Araghchi reiterated that Tehran is willing to work with its neighboring Persian Gulf states to reach a settlement to the conflict. Those negotiations may become more tenable as Iran looks to sue for peace via Saudi Arabia.

Iran-backed Houthi rebels from Yemen have repeatedly attacked King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh in recent weeks. The airport reopened two terminals Sunday for domestic and commercial flights.
Houthi groups fired drones and missiles into the Saudi capital on Sunday that were intercepted by Saudi air defense systems, according to Saudi military spokesman Maj. Gen. Turki al-Malki.
Gen. al-Malki also said that 10 ballistic missiles headed toward the southern region of the kingdom were shot down. Houthi strikes have killed at least 17, according to local reports, with more than 300 wounded by the drone and missile attacks.
The Houthis have also put pressure on the Bab al-Mandeb Strait in recent weeks, the narrow corridor out of the Red Sea into the Gulf of Aden servicing commercial traffic for much of the Arabian Peninsula.
“The reality is that Iran, simply by virtue of geography, will always have unparalleled leverage over maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz,” Mr. Araghchi wrote in his op-ed. “More importantly, despite the hype about alternative routes, the waterway is irreplaceable for both the region and the world economy.”
“There is a way forward, but it can only materialize once the U.S. administration genuinely accepts that it has no military options,” he wrote.

High-level delegations from Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Turkey were in Tehran on Monday for meetings with Iranian authorities to try to avert renewed fighting between Iran and Israel and the United States, Iran’s Foreign Ministry said.
The talks come as many in Iran are anxious about a possible return to all-out war. Israeli and American leaders have been sharpening their threats ahead of elections in both countries, while Iranian leaders have remained defiant.
Saudi Defense Minister Khalid bin Salman, Pakistani army chief Field Marshal Asim Munir and Ibrahim Kalin, the head of Turkey’s intelligence service, were to meet with Iran’s top security officials and negotiators to push for a deal between Tehran and Washington.

The war in Yemen and strikes by Iranian-backed Houthi rebels against Saudi Arabia were also topics of the talks, according to two regional officials who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to reporters.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei told reporters in the Iranian capital that the agenda for the meeting was not set, but the talks would “undoubtedly address the most pressing threats to regional security.”
Saudi Arabia said in a statement that the delegations hoped to find “ways to de-escalate tensions, enhance regional security and promote its stability.”
Qatari mediators also traveled to Tehran on Sunday, working in coordination with the U.S., as part of efforts to de-escalate regional tensions, according to a regional official speaking on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the talks.
Pakistan and Qatar helped broker an agreement in June aimed at having Iran fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz to shipping, ending a U.S. blockade of Iranian ports and opening negotiations on a broader settlement addressing Iran’s nuclear program. The deal unraveled quickly, however, as both sides renewed attacks.
With worries about renewed fighting ahead of Israel’s election on Tuesday and the Nov. 3 midterm elections in the U.S., Baghaei on the weekend said Tehran had not closed the window of diplomacy and that messages were being passed to the U.S. via intermediaries.
With negotiations long stalled, he said that the U.S. appears to be persisting in unilateral demands and that President Donald Trump and U.S. officials repeatedly use the phrase “complete surrender,” which Baghaei said no Iranian accepts.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, meantime, repeated his warning on Sunday that Iran or its proxies could attack ahead of the close elections to disrupt the vote, citing intelligence.
“The (military) is ready both to defend and to strike,” he said in a video statement, adding: “You will suffer disproportionate blows far greater than you can imagine.”
Israel’s Channel 12 reported Sunday night that Netanyahu and his military chief of staff clashed over an instruction by Netanyahu to carry out an “action” that the army believes could quickly trigger a resumption of the conflict with Iran.
Netanyahu’s office later described the report as “fake news.” In a post on X, Defense Minister Israel Katz said that reports about “rifts between the political leadership and the IDF concerning Iran are completely baseless and false.”

“I state unequivocally that there has been no intention by Israel of initiating an attack on Iran before the elections in Israel,” Katz said. “We made it clear that should Iran attack Israel, we would respond with great force.”
In Tehran, when asked whether Iran was planning attacks, Baghaei on Monday only said that “the Israeli regime is highly skilled at carrying out false-flag operations.”
“The Islamic Republic of Iran will not hesitate to exercise its inherent right to self-defense to protect Iran’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and independence,” he said.
Yemen has become a widening front in the Iran war that began in February, with the Houthis increasingly launching attacks on Saudi Arabia because it supports Yemen’s internationally recognized government battling the rebels.
The conflict has intensified since forces from the internationally recognized government and Saudi-led coalition launched airstrikes on Houthi-held Sanaa International Airport in July, shattering a 2022 ceasefire deal that largely stopped the fighting in the country’s civil war.
Early Monday, Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree said the rebel group had fired ballistic missiles at military gatherings and weapons depots belonging to Saudi-backed government forces in Aden and Lahj provinces. He claimed the attacks destroyed military equipment and caused casualties but did not provide evidence. The Associated Press couldn’t independently verify the claims.
Meantime, residents in Houthi-held Sanaa and on the Red Sea coast reported a series of explosions.
Houthi media said airstrikes targeted a solar power system and a water well in Sanaa, but offered no proof. In the port city of Mokha, recently seized by the Houthis, residents said rockets hit several buildings including a hospital.
Houthi-run al-Masirah channel also reported strikes in Saada, in northern Yemen, and in southwestern Taiz province, where the rebels and Saudi-backed government forces have been fighting for weeks.
The spokesperson for the Saudi-led coalition said an operation in Houthi-controlled territory destroyed five tunnels used for storing ballistic missiles, four ballistic missile launchers and another missile storage.
