So it is, unfortunately, no surprise that there has been another person has been injured or killed in a confrontation with federal law enforcement.

BREAKING: Multiple law enforcement sources tell me there has just been a Border Patrol involved shooting in Minneapolis near 26th Street & Nicollet Ave. with Border Patrol shooting a person. I’m told the person is “down” and medics are working on them. No details yet on who it was or what led up to the shooting.

Working sources and will update when I have more.

Details are still sparse on the ground, but it appears that federal agents were trying to arrest an armed gang member when his gun came out, and he was shot by officers.

No doubt there will be all sorts of stories about how this was an execution, because of course there will be. But the facts seem pretty clear.

The reality on the ground is much different from what most people see. We have reached the point where crowds are stalking random people on suspicion of being ICE agents and harassing them. The mere suspicion that you are a federal agent is enough to get you surrounded.

"They are NOT cooperating with ICE in getting rid of those people. As a result, they have to carry out these large-scale raids in order to find them!"

At 9:05 AM CT, as DHS law enforcement officers were conducting a targeted operation in Minneapolis against an illegal alien wanted for violent assault, an individual approached US Border Patrol officers with a 9 mm semi-automatic handgun, seen here. 

The officers attempted to disarm the suspect but the armed suspect violently resisted. More details on the armed struggle are forthcoming. 

Fearing for his life and the lives and safety of fellow officers, an agent fired defensive shots. Medics on scene immediately delivered medical aid to the subject but was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The suspect also had 2 magazines and no ID—this looks like a situation where an individual wanted to do maximum damage and massacre law enforcement. 

About 200 rioters arrived at the scene and began to obstruct and assault law enforcement on the scene, crowd control measures were deployed for the safety of the public and law enforcement. 

This situation is evolving, and more information is forthcoming.

UPDATE: 

Barricades have been built by the protesters, and dumpsters with rocks have been put in place for use by the protesters. Very organized crowd.

Border Patrol Commander Greg Bovino Set the Record Straight on the Minneapolis Shooting in This Presser!-Posted on Townhall-By Joseph Chalfant-On January 24, 2026:

Border Patrol Greg Bovino held a press conference soon after the fatal shooting of 37-year-old Alex Pretti to dispel the lies being told by Democrat politicians and their media allies.

“This looks like a situation where an individual wanted to do maximum damage and massacre law enforcement,” Bovino said in the press conference.

Bovino reiterated that Border Patrol agents were conducting operations to apprehend an illegal alien with a criminal history of domestic assault when Pretti attempted to interfere.

Directly contradicting Minnesota Governor Tim Walz’s claim that the Department of Homeland Security was using “untrained officers,” Bovino stated the officer involved in the shooting “was highly trained and had been serving as a Border Patrol agent for eight years” with less-than-lethal and range safety officer training.

The Border Patrol Commander also revealed that the “protesters” were anything but peaceful, and began attacking agents who were securing the scene.

“About 200 rioters arrived at the scene and began to obstruct and assault law enforcement,” Bovino continued. “Crowd control measures have been deployed for the safety of the public and law enforcement.

“This is only the latest attack on law enforcement,” Bovino said. “Across the country, the men and women have been attacked, shot at, doxxed, had their family members threatened, and, as we have seen, more than 100 vehicle rammings over the past year against federal law enforcement.”

Bovino also pointed out that key Democrats have been withholding information to help spin the narrative surrounding the shooting.

“Mayor Frey and Chief O’Hare [omitted] the fact that the suspect had a gun and magazines full of ammunition,” Bovino said.

Democrats have been quick to pounce on the self-defense shooting, alleging that Pretti was murdered or executed, with Ilhan Omar even calling for the impeachment of DHS Secretary Kristi Noem.

Joe had the story first: we have another officer-involved shooting in Minneapolis. Some clown armed with a handgun tried to take on the Border Patrol in the streets. It ended up poorly for the suspect. Before the liberal media goes off the rails, the man was armed. This incident is likely to gin up more leftist mayhem, despite the evidence, because that’s how mentally ill people behave, and this city is brimming with them.

The Border Patrol came in hot with this statement following the shooting:

“Border Patrol agents are trained extremely well to protect themselves, their fellow agents, and innocent third parties. When a supposed “peaceful” protester brings a weapon (such as a loaded handgun) and brandishes it, there are going to severe consequences and repercussions. We have pleaded with and warned the media and the politicians that their irresponsible, hate-filled and false rhetoric is going to get people unnecessarily hurt, or worse, killed when they portray our agents and officers as the aggressors. They have encouraged these reckless confrontations and attacks on our agents and officers who are performing their lawful duties and enforcing the laws that Congress has put on the books. The fake and dishonest media and the shameless politicians should be held accountable for willfully misleading the public and enticing these protesters and agitators. We have full confidence that when more facts are revealed, our agents and officers will be shown to have utilized justifiable force in eliminating the threat.”

Senate Democrats, who haven't a clue about conditions in Minneapolis, are attacking ICE as a violent version of the Keystone Cops. The reality is that the streets are being taken over by Black Bloc rioters who are assaulting federal agents every day, and that death threats against ICE agents are a fact of life here in Minneapolis. Random people are being stopped in the streets by anti-ICE "protesters" and harassing them.

Frey and Walz have all the tools to keep the peace, and could, at any time, tone down the temperature and the rhetoric. All they need to do is assist in the peaceful apprehension of known criminals and turn over the criminal illegal aleins in jail.

But the media and the Democrats think they have a winning issue on their hands, and want to make Trump back down. They have chosen a more violent version of the same strategy used in the shutdown.
