For decades, the ruling apparatus in Tehran has relied on two foundational lies to maintain its grip on power: first, that the Iranian opposition is fragmented and planless; second, that no viable structure exists inside the country to manage a transition. Today, as the Islamic Republic enters its most precarious era of institutional decay, both myths are crumbling.
The national uprising sweeping Iran is not a series of isolated, emotional outbursts. It is the culmination of a decade-long trajectory of political evolution – from the peaceful gatherings at Cyrus the Great’s tomb in 2016 to the uprisings of 2017, 2019, 2022, and the nationwide defiance of Dey 1404. With each wave of state repression, the Iranian people have gained tactical maturity.
Behind this public resilience lies a decentralized, highly resilient communication and organizational network operating within the deepest, safest layers of Iranian society. While the regime’s propaganda machine puts on theatrical displays of control, its intelligence agencies are acutely aware that they are fighting an invisible, organic infrastructure. This network does not rely on a single vulnerable headquarters; it is embedded in neighborhood groups, labor unions, and student bodies across every province. It is precisely because the regime cannot locate a single choke point that it cannot suppress this decentralized front.
As opposition leader Reza Pahlavi recently emphasized in Toronto, this movement operates within a comprehensive macro-strategy focused on five key goals: maximum pressure on the regime, maximum support for the population, maximum organization of internal resistance forces, maximum attrition of the state apparatus, and a detailed plan for post-collapse governance.
A persistent misreading in foreign policy circles is that opposition unity requires total ideological conformity. It does not. Genuine democracy thrives on political diversity. The coalition coalescing around Pahlavi’s vision encompasses republicans and monarchists, left-wing and right-wing thinkers, united not by a single dogma, but by four fundamental pillars: the preservation of Iran’s territorial integrity and national sovereignty; the strict separation of religion and state; equal rights and civil liberties for every citizen under the rule of law; and the absolute right of the Iranian nation to choose its future form of government through free, fair, and internationally monitored elections.
Anyone who accepts these four tenets belongs in this national coalition. The opposition’s goal is not to dictate the future, but to secure the democratic framework that allows the Iranian people to cast their vote in a free Tehran.
Skeptics often ask how an unarmed population can overcome an apparatus that commands vast security forces. The answer lies in understanding the mechanics of totalitarian collapse. A state that must import foreign mercenaries to suppress its own citizens is not strong; it is desperately fragile. The Islamic Republic has reached a state of deep internal mistrust. Within the military and civil institutions, a process of passive attrition is already underway. Personnel remain inside the bureaucracy on the surface, but they no longer serve the leadership’s directives as they once did; they are quietly allowing the pillars of repression to erode from within.
Pahlavi’s transition strategy intentionally seeks to accelerate this internal fissure. By offering clear guarantees of transitional justice, administrative continuity, and national reconciliation, the opposition is providing civil servants and regular military personnel a viable off-ramp. As popular pressure reaches a critical threshold, passive attrition will inevitably shift into active attrition – the decisive moment in any revolution when security forces openly lay down their weapons, refuse orders to shoot, and align with the public. Comprehensive transitional blueprints are already crafted to safeguard critical infrastructure, maintain public safety, and stabilize the economy from day one of the regime’s fall.

In this strategic equation, the Iranian diaspora is no longer just an observer group; it has become an indispensable force multiplier for the movement inside Iran. The morning of freedom in Iran will not arrive by chance; it will arrive through coordinated strategy, underground organization, and unyielding national resolve. The international community must look past Tehran’s hollow propaganda, recognize the reality on the Iranian street, and stand with a nation prepared to reclaim its future.

Trump reportedly rejects Iran’s seven-day peace deal to reopen strait of Hormuz. Tehran awaits official response to plan, but US president is said to expect renewed strikes after midterms!-Posted on The Guardian-By Donna Ferguson-On September 26, 2026:
Iran is awaiting an official US response to its proposal to reopen the strait of Hormuz within a week and resume nuclear talks in return for the lifting of the US naval blockade of Iranian ports, as Donald Trump was reported to have rejected the deal.
Although Iran is yet to receive his official response, the US president is said to be privately sceptical Iran would meet his demands to dismantle its nuclear programme, according to unnamed US officials cited by the Wall Street Journal.
Trump has told aides he expects to resume bombing Iran after the November midterms in the US, the newspaper reported.
Meanwhile, on Friday evening, he published a post on his Truth Social platform with a graphic showing a map with the strait of Hormuz renamed as the “Trump Strait”.
During a three-hour meeting at the UN general assembly in New York earlier this week, Iran had proposed reopening the strait, which would have relieved pressure on global energy markets, and restarting talks on its nuclear programme within seven days.
In return, as well as lifting its naval blockade, Iran wants the US to permit the release of some of Iran’s frozen assets, restore the waiver that lifted sanctions on Iran’s oil exports and observe a “ceasefire on all fronts”.
That would involve the US president convincing Israel to end its attacks on Iran-backed Hezbollah in Lebanon, a tall order, and allowing the strait to reopen largely on Iran’s terms, with the new route predominantly going through Iranian waters.
Saudi Arabia is also said to be concerned that the route deal is bilateral between Iran and Oman, and not with the Gulf states as joint signatories.
Reports of the rejection came as Iranian state media reported on Saturday morning that the Iranian president, Masoud Pezeshkian, was on his way back to Tehran from New York.
After a meeting with UN secretary general, António Guterres, Pezeshkian said: “Iran has not walked away from the negotiating table, but given past experiences, it no longer trusts the United States.”

Earlier, a US official had said discussions with Iran through mediators were “positive and constructive” and, on Friday, the Iranian foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, had detailed the proposal to reporters outside the UN security council.
He said the seven-day timeline to open the strait and resume talks could start as soon as the US accepts Iran’s proposal. The initial steps would take about four to five days to complete, the strait would be opened on the sixth day and talks on the nuclear programme would start on the seventh day, he said.
This would include a protocol to allow UN nuclear inspectors back in to look at Iran’s damaged sites and the stockpile of highly enriched uranium.
“If there is seriousness on the US side to come to a deal and reopen the strait of Hormuz, everything is now prepared,” Araghchi said. “Iran has conveyed to the United States, through Qatar [mediators], a concrete seven-day plan. If the necessary conditions are met, the strait can be reopened, and normal maritime passage restored within seven days.
“The choice now rests with the United States. Iran does not accept coercion, threats or intimidation, and Iran will not surrender its sovereign rights under pressure.”
The US naval blockade is putting intense pressure on the Iranian economy, while the seven-month-old conflict in the region has disrupted oil flows through one of the world’s most critical shipping lanes and is increasing the cost of living around the globe.
Pezeshkian, in an interview with the CBS show Face the Nation, said Tehran was ready for talks on its nuclear programme and other issues, but would not accept “bullying or coercion”.
“Iran is not seeking war, but will defend itself against pressure, threats and attacks,” Pezeshkian said, adding that it had already agreed that “we’re not supposed to develop nuclear weapons”.
Previous attempts at diplomacy have failed to end the war, which began on 28 February with US and Israeli attacks.

Since then the conflict has alternated between pauses and renewed strikes, killing thousands while degrading Iran’s conventional forces and damaging its already ailing economy.
Iran and its allies have retaliated by extending the conflict throughout the region. Iran has struck US allies in the Gulf with drones and missiles while its Houthi allies in Yemen have targeted Saudi interests. Iranian-aligned militias in Iraq were blamed for a pipeline attack that temporarily took more Saudi oil off the market.
The violence in Yemen has prompted a new humanitarian crisis, the UN children’s agency said on Friday, reporting a rise in acute malnutrition among children.
Trump has previously said he was in no rush to reach a deal, even as high oil prices fuel inflation. On the Iranian side, there are questions as to whether the hardliners who dominate the security forces would accept compromises championed by moderates such as Pezeshkian.
Diplomatic efforts surrounding the UN general assembly underscored the global stakes in the conflict.

The United States and China have agreed to reduce tariffs on a subset of each other’s goods, the White House announced Saturday.
The announcement, which suggests a de-escalation in the two countries’ trade war, came after Chinese leader Xi Jinping’s state visit.
“The two countries reached consensus on recommendations for more favorable tariff treatment for $30 billion of non-sensitive goods in each direction,” reads a White House fact sheet.
Specifically, the deal applies to U.S. exports of “agricultural goods, fish and seafood, logs and wood products, cosmetics and medical devices” and to imports of “consumer products such as small appliances, toys, holiday decorations, and children’s car seats.”
The fact sheet also says China “will import at least 10 million metric tons of coal from the United States in 2027 and again 2028.”
Jamieson Greer, the United States trade representative, spoke about the trade agreement on CNBC on Friday.
“We want to have some subset of goods that we can trade with the Chinese on a more preferential basis,” he said. “If we have trade disputes in the future, if there are tariff measures in the future, we just leave those things to the side.”
China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the terms.
The White House also announced that “the two countries established the U.S.-China Super Intelligence (SI) Dialogue to exchange views” on artificial intelligence.
President Trump, after polling his followers on social media about how to rename artificial intelligence, has committed to calling it “super intelligence.”
After Mr. Xi’s departure, Mr. Trump wrote on social media that the two leaders would meet again in China in November, as well as in Miami, Florida, in December for the G20 Summit.
Some in the U.S. government have been suspicious of China’s good faith in negotiations.
Sen. Roger Wicker, Mississippi Republican, urged the president ahead of time not to be too friendly with his Chinese counterpart.
“Our commander in chief should keep in mind that his guest is a brutal, unelected and oppressive dictator who seeks to dominate his neighbors and whose massive military arsenal is aimed directly at the United States of America,” Mr. Wicker said in a speech on the Senate floor.
