When an Iranian dissident proclaims that “the greatest killer of Iranians has been Islam,” the statement is less an exercise in academic historiography than a cry of immediate political exhaustion. Across the diaspora and within the quiet corners of Tehran, Isfahan, and Shiraz, a powerful counternarrative has taken hold. Confronted with the gallows, morality police, and institutional dogmatism of the Islamic Republic, many Iranians have turned history into a weapon of resistance. In this narrative, the seventh-century Arab conquest is not a distant chapter in antiquity, but the original sin of Persian history – an ongoing catastrophe linking the fall of the Sasanian capital of Ctesiphon in 637 A.D. directly to the prison yards of Evin today.

To understand contemporary Iran, one must grasp the potency of this neo-nationalist memory. Yet to understand Iran’s actual past, one must untangle this emotional countermyth from the messy realities of imperial violence, political pragmatism, and cultural assimilation.

The foundational pillar of the anti-clerical narrative is the catastrophic rupture of the Rashidun conquest. The popular memory laments a sophisticated, enlightened Zoroastrian civilization abruptly dismantled by religious fanaticism.

The historical reality was far more mundane and agonizingly political. By 633 A.D., the Sasanian Empire was an exhausted shell. Decades of brutal, total war against the Byzantine Empire had depleted the treasury, shattered the peasant economy through punitive taxation, and broken the imperial army. Internal dynastic fratricide saw nearly a dozen claimants’ cycle through the throne in a span of four years.

When the Arab Muslim armies advanced across the Mesopotamian floodplains, they encountered an empire already unraveling from within. Many regional dehqans (landed nobility) and Nestorian Christian minorities negotiated surrenders and retained their administrative posts rather than sacrifice themselves for a fractured Sasanian court. The subsequent conversion of the Iranian plateau was not a sudden, sword-point event; it took over three centuries of fiscal pressures, social incentives, and localized assimilation before Muslims formed a demographic majority.

The dissident text draws a continuous line of religious terror through later conquerors such as Timur (Tamerlane) and Agha Mohammad Khan Qajar. Here, historiography diverges sharply from theological polemic.

Timur was a Turco-Mongol conqueror of terrifying efficiency who constructed minarets of human skulls across the Middle East. While he invoked Islamic rhetoric to legitimize his campaigns, he massacred Sunni and Shi’i populations with equal ferocity, from Baghdad to Damascus and Isfahan. His violence was the legacy of the Eurasian steppe empire – A.D. terror designed to force rapid capitulation – not a campaign to impose Quranic dogma on Persians.

Similarly, when Agha Mohammad Khan blinded thousands of men in Kerman in 1794, his fury had nothing to do with religious piety. He was a ruthless dynastic warlord extinguishing the rival Zand dynasty to consolidate the Qajar Empire. Folding these bloody campaigns into an unbroken “thread of Islamic terror” strips regional history of its political and dynastic context, reducing complex geopolitics into a single religious motive.

The true paradox of Iranian history lies in what happened after the conquest: Persia did not merely survive; it thoroughly captured its conquerors.

While the languages and cultures of Roman Egypt, the Levant, and North Africa were largely Arabized, Iran retained its linguistic and cultural autonomy. Through the Shu’ubiyya literary movement of the ninth century, Persian scholars asserted their cultural superiority within the caliphate. Under the Abbasids, the machinery of imperial governance – from viziers and tax ledgers to court etiquette – was overwhelmingly staffed by Persians.

Ferdowsi’s Shahnameh revived the Persian language and pre-Islamic mythology, codifying a distinct Iranian civilizational identity. Thinkers like Ibn Sina (Avicenna), Al-Biruni, and Al-Razi operated within an Islamic framework while drawing extensively upon classical Persian, Indian, and Hellenistic traditions. Iranian culture was not an inert victim of a foreign creed; it fundamentally reshaped Islamic civilization into a Perso-Islamic ecumene.

Why, then, does the narrative of absolute religious rupture remain so compelling today?

Because inside the Islamic Republic, history is never academic; it is ideological warfare. For over four decades, the ruling theocracy has attempted to erase or diminish pre-Islamic heritage, framing everything prior to 622 A.D. as Jahiliyyah (an age of pagan ignorance). School curriculums were engineered to prioritize religious martyrdom over national antiquity.

In response, the Iranian public engineered a mirror image of the regime’s dogma. Where the state proclaims Islam brought total enlightenment, dissidents proclaim it brought total destruction. Pre-Islamic symbols – the tomb of Cyrus the Great at Pasargadae, the Faravahar, the fire temples of Yazd – have become subversive counter-symbols of freedom. When young women remove their headscarves to chants of “Zan, Zendegi, Azadi” (Woman, Life, Freedom), they are rejecting an ideology that has weaponized faith to control their bodies, lives, and modern aspirations.

The emotional cry that “Islam is the greatest killer of Iranians” is historically simplistic, but sociologically revelatory. It is the raw voice of a society that has endured decades of ideological enclosure and chosen to look back into the deepest wells of its memory to imagine a future free of clerics. Iran’s greatest triumph has never been ethnic purity or religious isolation, but its stubborn, millennia-old capacity to outlive every ideology that sought to erase it.

Abdul El-Sayed: A Muslim Brotherhood Puppet and a Grave National Security Threat!-Posted on Townhall-By Josh Hammer-On October 16, 2026:

On NBC's "Meet the Press" last Sunday, host Kristen Welker, asked Democratic Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed if he would "set the record straight" on his alleged ties to the Muslim Brotherhood.

"No," El-Sayed quickly replied, before clarifying that neither he nor his family has any ties to the international Sunni Islamist network.

El-Sayed is lying. The Democrat Senate hopeful is running as the most thinly veiled Trojan horse in American political history — on behalf of the Brotherhood and the Islamism it embodies.

The Washington Free Beacon helped expose that El-Sayed's half-sister, a radical University of Chicago professor named Eman Abdelhadi, has explicitly lauded the family's Brotherhood ties.

In 2012, Abdelhadi gushed over the mother, Fatten Elkomy, whom she shares with El-Sayed: "Had an amazing talk with my mom about her activism in the Muslim Brotherhood during the early 70s." That same year, as the Brotherhood's Mohamed Morsi reigned in Elkomy's native Egypt, Abdelhadi bragged that her "family has long been MB."

Care to answer Welker's question again, Abdul?

Abdelhadi also took to Instagram to deliver an "October 7th blessing" one year after the barbaric pogrom committed by the Brotherhood's Palestinian-Arab offshoot, Hamas. Wearing a keffiyeh, Abdelhadi intoned, "I want to say, Allahu Akbar."

What a peach.

As for Elkomy, she worked for the Islamic American Relief Agency, designated by the Treasury Department as a terrorist organization in 2004 for providing "direct financial support" to Osama bin Laden and al-Qaeda. She was working there on 9/11.

How stupid does El-Sayed think we are?

Maybe El-Sayed thought he could lie to Welker under the pretense of taqiyya, a sharia doctrine interpreted by some jihad-sympathizers as effective permission to lie to infidels.

But we have the receipts.

I've noted how El-Sayed's father-in-law, Jukaku Tayeb, a founding committee member of the Islamic Society of North America, has donated $200,000 to El-Sayed's campaign. El-Sayed has also raked in a similar six-figure donation sum from current or former Council on American-Islamic Relations officials.

ISNA and CAIR are Brotherhood front groups on American soil. They were named unindicted co-conspirators in the Justice Department's massive 2008 terror financing bust of the Holy Land Foundation.

The United Arab Emirates named CAIR a terrorist organization in 2014. And the Brotherhood itself is banned as a terrorist organization in Egypt, the UAE, Bahrain, and Saudi Arabia.

These are the groups now trying to elect El-Sayed to the U.S. Senate.

For decades, leading Brotherhood clerics encouraged Islamists to infiltrate the West through immigration. Once safely ensconced, the clerics argued, Islamists could attain positions of prominence to move their Western host countries closer toward Islamism.

That's why Abdelhadi pursued academic jihad, joining the professoriate at the prestigious University of Chicago. And it's why her half brother is now attempting electoral jihad at the highest level of American politics.

A prominent conservative member of Congress recently confided in me his fear that El-Sayed might be elected. Would El-Sayed, this member worried, have access to sensitive intelligence? Would he share our closest national security secrets with hostile foreign actors?

The answers seem clear.

As a U.S. senator, El-Sayed would pose a massive threat to American national security.

Rumor has it that El-Sayed covets a seat on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. That's a perfect perch for a senatorial fifth column.

As a senator, El-Sayed wouldn't advance America's interests. He would advance the interests of the Brotherhood, and of Islamism more generally.

The implications are dire.

The Muslim Brotherhood is the mother's milk of Islamism. If El-Sayed is elected, it isn't just the Brotherhood and Hamas that would have a plant inside the "world's greatest deliberative body." Al-Qaeda and ISIS would have a friend as well.

So too would the Iranian regime. After the assassination of Ali Khamenei, El-Sayed refused to comment, noting that "there are a lot of people in Dearborn who are sad today."

The United States and Iran are at war. Whose side is he on?

Senators are not required to procure security clearances, as executive branch appointees must. They are considered inherently trustworthy.

Oops.

The polls in Michigan are tight, but El-Sayed appears to be ahead.

If El-Sayed wins, the Senate might be tempted to prevent him from being seated. It would be an uphill battle. Article I of the Constitution affords each house of Congress the ability to be the "Judge of the Elections, Returns, and Qualifications" of its own members. But in a 1969 case, the Supreme Court circumscribed this power, severely limiting Congress' discretion.

What that means is as simple as it is stark: Mike Rogers must win in Michigan.

The alternative is that the Muslim Brotherhood gets an asset in the United States Senate.

Wall Street Apes is a popular account on X with 1.4 million followers. Among other issues, the author frequently posts about threats to the United States and other Western nations from Islamic migration and uses interviews with Muslims (and ex-Muslims) themselves to bolster his arguments.

Earlier this week, WSA posted about a new 5,000-square-foot Islamic superstore in Richardson, Texas, called Modefa and included what looks to be a commercial produced for the store. Smiling Muslim men and women walk the viewer through various departments, highlighting the store’s offerings, including “a huge selection of women’s modest fashion,” “a variety of beautiful hijabs,” kufis and thobes for men, prayer rugs and Islam-themed home decor. The store also boasts of a family lounge and a prayer room.

WSA warns that this is just another step in the “Islamification” of America. He is not alone; others post similar warnings, including scholars Raymond Ibrahim and Robert Spencer, who point to Islam’s history of infiltration, domination and, ultimately, conquest. One sees plenty of social media posts urging Americans to band together to prevent the construction of mosques, madrassas (Islamic schools), Islamic centers, mini-cities and retail establishments like Modefa that seek to “normalize” Islam.

Christians far outnumber Muslims here in the United States. According to polls, somewhere between 62% and almost 70% of Americans identify as Christians. Counting only adults (people 18 and over), that’s nearly 180 million people. (Counting children in Christian families would add millions more.) By contrast, Muslims represent no more than 1.6% of the entire population — somewhere between 4.5 million and 5.5 million people. 

And yet we now have cities governed by Muslims: Dearborn and Hamtramck, Michigan, for example. The current mayor of Dearborn, Abdullah Hammoud, was videotaped at a mosque recently, saying, “If the Muslim community votes, if the Arab community votes, we will determine every single position in the whole city.” (My friend Margot Cleveland, who lives in Dearborn, has sued the Muslim-dominated city government, alleging that it preferentially promotes Islamic religious displays while being “hostile to Christians and Jews” by forbidding the display of their religious holiday symbols.)

The Democratic Party candidate for U.S. Senate from Michigan, Abdul El-Sayed, is Muslim. Rashida Tlaib, the congressional representative from Michigan’s 12th district, is Muslim. Ilhan Omar, the congressional representative for Minnesota’s 5th district, is Muslim; the 5th district has one of the largest Muslim populations in the country. And of course, Zohran Mamdani, the mayor of New York City, is a Muslim.

Why is such a small population having such an outsized impact? 

One reason is because so many Muslims want Islam to be central to every aspect of their lives, and they make their decisions accordingly. Whereas American Christians — despite their far larger numbers — have grown comfortable with the idea that Christianity need not be central to every aspect of their lives, and they make their decisions accordingly.

Additionally, too many Christians are cowed by inflammatory headlines or silenced by pervasive viewpoints that link Christianity with ignorance and violence. 

A perfect example is former presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, who said last year that white men “of a certain religion” (Christianity) were responsible for “so much damage.” Author Jer Swigart called white American evangelicals “the most dangerous people on the planet.” Charles Matthews has written in The Washington Post, “White Christianity is in big trouble. And it’s its own biggest threat.” Christianity is often falsely linked to “white supremacy,” as when former President Joe Biden bizarrely announced that “white supremacy is the single most dangerous terrorist threat in our homeland.” (Biden’s administration wasn’t just concerned about evangelical Protestants; his FBI went after Catholics who attend the Latin Mass, calling them “radical traditionalist Catholics,” or “rad-trads,” and painting them as “potential domestic violent extremists.”)

And then there are the secularists’ accusations that, left to their own devices, American Christians would create a “theocracy.”

That is nonsense on stilts. This country was founded in opposition to that very idea. The goal is not government-mandated religion but a culture dominated by Christians who live their values in their daily lives, so that government, with its inevitably oppressive force, can be limited and people can exercise ordered liberty.

By their silence, Christians have allowed the culture — our educational systems, our media, our entertainment industries — to be purged of Christianity and Christian values. The result is crime and societal chaos. That, in turn, produces demands for more and bigger government, despite the fact that government policies created — or exacerbated — the chaos in the first place. Coupled with certain distorted attitudes about multiculturalism popular with the Left, the result is government and popular culture that is openly hostile to the Christian majority but treats Muslims as an oppressed minority deserving of special protection.

Thus does Islam grow in strength, while Christianity recedes.

The irony, of course, is that once Muslims have enough voting power, they will vote for government officials, governmental structures and public policies that impose Islam on everyone else. That is what their faith demands, as they are more than willing to say, and often do on social media and elsewhere.

If the trends we are seeing in European countries (England, Ireland, Germany, Sweden) take root here, those who oppose Christian-dominated culture and foment hysterical and baseless fears of a “Christian theocracy” will find themselves in an Islamic one.

Nature abhors a vacuum. Our willingness to pretend that secularism could preserve our way of life — and to allow Christianity to be forced to the sidelines — has created an opening for a tiny but passionate population that shows no such trepidation about their own culture and beliefs. The vacuum we have created will not be filled by banning Islamic stores and halal restaurants; we must instead redouble our efforts to strengthen Christianity in our personal lives, our families and our communities, and to insist that Christian values are powerfully and positively represented in our educational institutions, media, businesses and government. We have the numbers; we just need the commitment.

If Christianity is not the dominant cultural force in this country, something else will be.

Mr. Davis said red is the color of communism and green symbolizes Islamists.

The videos will take aim at figures he says embody the alliance, such as New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani, Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar and Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed.

Mr. Davis, a former clerk for Supreme Court Justice Neil M. Gorsuch and a former aide to Iowa Republican Sen. Charles E. Grassley, called the red-green alliance “the most dangerous partnership in American politics.”

“Communists want your country. Islamists want your faith,” Mr. Davis said. “They hate America, and they’ve figured out they’re stronger when they march together. History shows how this ends, and it never ends well for the people who looked the other way. This November, every American has to decide whether to stand with the alliance or stand with America. We’re going to make sure voters see exactly what’s at stake.”

Saudi Arabia Has Its Hands Full Against the Houthis. In the aftermath of deadly Houthi bombings, the United States is considering the strategic implications of intervention!-Posted on The Patriot Post-By Hudson Baldwin, Contributor-On October 16, 2026:

The United States is currently containing Iran and has largely been successful. The ongoing blockade has neutralized the Islamic Republic’s chaos, and the Strait of Hormuz is open. However, Iran has one relative ace up its sleeve.

Its most dangerous asset at this point is its network of terrorist cells, but more specifically, the Houthis. Not long ago, I wrote about the Houthis fighting against Saudi Arabia. Saudi defenses held up, but at significant cost.

The Yemen-based terrorists have targeted major Saudi infrastructure, including various oil sites and the critical Bab el-Mandeb Strait. They most recently launched strikes on the Riyadh airport, killing 13 and wounding more than 300, all innocent civilians.

Saudi Arabia has been left to fight alone. Its much more powerful allies, Turkey and Pakistan, with whom it signed a mutual defense pact just a couple of months ago, have offered very little support. With allies like those...

Unfortunately, the nation has a hyperaggressive group of terrorist religious zealots who wish to destroy everything that makes Saudi Arabia a major player on the world stage.

The United States, for its part, finds itself at a crossroads. Do we help the Saudis? If so, how do we go about that?

Like Kuwait 30 years ago, Saudi Arabia is critically important to America for one reason: its oil. Historically, the U.S. has prioritized protecting the major oil-producing nations that don’t intrinsically hate America, since that number is a little lower than we’d like. We have a vested interest in seeing that the Saudis aren’t crippled by the Houthis. But what do we do?

Obviously, we are a tad occupied at the moment with the whole Iran situation. The military forces we could send on short notice would be fairly limited. Even so, sending in American forces would most likely be the most effective solution.

The drawbacks mostly involve public opinion. It’s no secret that the war in Iran, while necessary, hasn’t been popular. It has also lasted much longer than anyone wanted. Engaging in another front with another Middle Eastern enemy could be a big hit for the Trump administration in the lead-up to the rapidly approaching midterms. In the long term, we would likely take on responsibility for yet another nation’s defense in the Middle East, as if we didn’t have enough on our plate in that category.

Another option is to convince our allies to help the Saudis fight. Israel and the UAE both have formidable militaries for what is needed, but since both are still involved in other conflicts, it’s unclear whether they would answer the call. The Houthis threaten the regional economy, but Israel might think there are other nations ahead in line to do the job.

The final option is for the U.S. to simply do nothing, arguably the worst option. Joe Biden took this option in 2021 and refused to support the anti-Houthi offensive at the time. The Houthis could have joined the graveyard of terrorist groups the U.S. has put down over the years, but now they are a threat. To add insult to injury, Biden also removed the Houthis’ terror designation, which is comically stupid.

It seems that our hand is being forced. The United States must decisively act.
