For centuries, the French Republic has struggled to define its relationship with the Islamic world, often oscillating between colonial control and strategic avoidance. Today, President Emmanuel Macron embodies the latest – and perhaps most dangerous – iteration of this failure. While his rhetoric claims to defend laïcité (secularism), his actions reveal a deep-seated political cowardice. By obsessing over domestic administrative hurdles while refusing to confront the ideological and geopolitical centers of radicalism, Macron has proven himself incapable of tackling the menace decisively.

The roots of the Republic’s current paralysis lie in what historians describe as the troubled history of French engagement with Islam. From Napoleon’s attempts to co-opt imams in Egypt to the denial of citizenship to Muslims in colonial Algeria, the state has always sought to manage Islam rather than uphold the true equality of the Republic. The Long and Troubled History of the French Republic and Islam illustrates that the state has repeatedly chosen control over conviction.

Macron is no different. His Charter of Principles for Islam is a modern colonial echo – a top-down bureaucratic attempt to force a French Islam into existence. Critics argue this is a coward’s gambit: it allows him to look tough on paper while avoiding the difficult work of dismantling the extremist networks that operate within the state’s own borders.

The accusation of cowardice is most potent when examining Macron’s domestic policy. Rather than a decisive strike against radicalism, he has chosen a path of symbolic policing. By focusing on what people wear or the charters they sign, he creates a distraction from his failure to secure the banlieues or stop the spread of extremist ideology in schools.

It is easier for Macron to demand a signature on a document than it is to shut down the radical hubs that facilitate what he calls separatism. French Muslim federations sign ‘charter of principles‘ as a result of state pressure, but these bureaucratic victories do nothing to stop the underlying menace. For many, this is the ultimate political shield – using secularism as a talking point to avoid the high-stakes confrontation required to actually defeat radicalism.

This is where Macron’s true cowardice manifests: in his refusal to treat the internal threat as the existential menace it truly is. Rather than decisively dismantling the networks that spread radical ideology, Macron has opted for symbolic policing and bureaucratic charters. It is a strategy of containment, not victory. By treating the spread of radicalism as a social issue to be managed through the state-led Charter of Principles, he is effectively legitimizing a dangerous influence rather than uprooting it.

This domestic hesitation is the mirror image of his international submissiveness. While he postures as a defender of the Republic, his continued diplomatic engagement with the Islamic Republic proves he lacks the resolve to cut off the head of the snake. He is a leader who fears the social and geopolitical consequences of a truly decisive strike against the radical movement. Consequently, he allows the threat to fester at home – disguised as community engagement – while shaking hands with the architects of the Islamic Republic abroad. This is not the behavior of a protector of the Enlightenment; it is the calculated retreat of a politician who is too timid to confront the menace at its source, both in the streets of France and on the global stage.

The most glaring evidence of Macron’s lack of resolve is found on the international stage. While he postures as a defender of Western values at home, he maintains a policy of diplomatic ambiguity toward the Islamic Republic of Iran. In the face of the 2026 regional crisis, Macron has consistently called for restraint and negotiation rather than taking decisive actions to dismantle the regime’s influence.

Macron urges Iran to end attacks through phone calls and tweets, a strategy that many see as a pathetic substitute for strength. By continuing to engage with a regime that exports the very ideology he claims to fight in France, Macron is essentially funding and legitimizing the source of the problem. His Middle Way is seen by critics as a mask for submissiveness – a leader too afraid of geopolitical fallout to stand firmly with allies against a primary state sponsor of radicalism.

Macron’s presidency was supposed to be a new dawn for France, yet it has become a masterclass in strategic retreat. He is a leader who is loud in the safety of a press conference but silent when the stakes are truly high. By focusing on administrative management at home while coddling the Islamic Republic abroad, he ensures that the menace remains untouched.

Until a leader emerges who is willing to confront the ideological and geopolitical roots of the problem with more than just charters and phone calls, the Republic will remain in a state of managed decline. Macron’s legacy will not be one of republican defense, but of the calculated cowardice that allowed a global menace to thrive under his watch.

France Has to Stand Up or Europe Could Fall!-Posted on Townhall-By Derek Hunter-On October 20, 2026:

Paris is burning. So is much of France and other places across Europe. What was billed as a “student protest” was soon overrun with communist and Palestinian flags (but I repeat myself), Arafat doilies draped over heads and shoulders, and “newly arrived” Muslims from across the Mediterranean Sea. Unless schools are very different in France, I don’t think we’re dealing with students here.

It is, as it is every single time you find violence, the radical left. Crazy, evil leftists willing to blindly throw bricks at police, loot stores, pummel anyone deemed impure and to do it all with a sense of superiority.

They goosestep through the streets with all the confidence of the annoying kid with the mentally unstable brother a couple years older than him in the same school – pop him in the nose and there’s a chance his brother will stab you with a spork by the monkey bars on the way to the bus. 

How? Because the leaders of countries like France, Spain and other once great cultural tentpoles are fast transitioning them into armpits by allowing the Third World to enter, unfettered and unvetted, and dictate the terms of their occupation. Elect leftists and this is what you get. 

I would say “weak leftists,” but they’re not weak – they have no problem standing up to their actual citizens who dare speak out against their tyranny and will happily unleash hell on them. On their own grunts – their own Brownshirts – not so much.

Instead, you get weaselly statements about how this should not stand and you hear their cries. 

These mobs are the street army of the left, under normal circumstances. Any conservative group dare show up anywhere and these people are at the ready, pocket full of rocks and glass bottles full of gasoline stuffed with their sexually abused tube sock for the tossing. Any perceived injustice that can “mobilize” these morons and keep them in a fugue state and to the streets they go.

Every once in a while, the mob disconnects from their masters and turns on the hand that feeds them – Frankenstein’s Monster always returns to the castle to destroy it. That’s what is happening now. 

Europe is full of entitled leftists. Every time they try to make any kind of adjustment to any welfare or massive subsidy programs they have the streets will be blocked by trucks or tractors. There is always a contingent of European society ready to “defend” their access to the government teat. 

Invaders are no different. Once you get a taste of that “free” money, you start to need it. 

But in the riots, the invaders are only the grunts – the people looting and burning. The organizers are the committed communists with the Palestinian flags. They direct the mob, point them in specific directions to maximize the impact. The mob is the cancer, these people – the organizers – are the carcinogen. They all need to be dealt with.

You can’t rationalize with these people. The invaders don’t care; you can’t appeal to their better angels because if they had them they wouldn’t be doing what they’re doing in the first place. You can’t appeal to their sense of national pride or loyalty, as that is reserved for whatever hellhole they fled. And the leadership wants to seize power through chaos, so they really don’t care what any government may want.

The only way to deal with these people is force. 

France doesn’t have a Second Amendment, and is a case study in both why we do and why Democrats seek to strip it from us. We don’t have to stand in front of our stores and plead with a mob not to destroy it, as happened a lot in France over the weekend; we can just stand there with a couple of guns and make it known that the first 20 people through the door will be ventilated. 

One is significantly more convincing of an argument than the other.

If Europe is going to be Europe in 20 years, its leadership in the next 2 months needs to be more Korean store owner in the Rodney King riots than old lady swinging a baguette like it’s a lightsaber and remove the cancer its society has imported and deal with the carcinogens funding and organizing them with whatever means are available to them.

It was quite the fireworks show on CNN — it usually is when Scott Jennings is on the panel. He dueled with liberal Leigh McGowan, who did not take his remarks about the French riots well. Jennings rightly said this was a byproduct of the migrant crisis. Whenever there are rioters, both communist and Palestinian flags appear, so yes, there are whiny little white lefty snobs in this mix, but the Jewish-owned businesses were targeted in Marseille. The rioters had addresses. The Muslim-owned ones were untouched. McGowan tried to claim it was part of the yellow vest movement. It’s not:

We are not being paid enough for our jobs. They were French students that started this protest. Has it gotten out of hand? Absolutely. Are terrible things happening there? Absolutely…”

Yeah, when there are Palestinian flags everywhere, it’s the migrants running amok.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth quietly traveled to Israel on Monday to meet with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as President Donald Trump weighs another major military offensive against Iran.

The unannounced visit took place just eight days before Israel’s parliamentary elections and roughly two weeks before America’s midterms. The meeting occurred amid discussions between Washington and Jerusalem about potentially resuming large-scale military operations against Iran, Axios reported, citing two sources familiar with the matter.

Hegseth met Netanyahu at Ovda Air Base in southern Israel, where American fighter jets and aerial refueling aircraft are deployed, Axios reported, citing two sources.

American political leaders visiting Israel is hardly unusual. Former Presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Barack Obama all visited Jerusalem’s Western Wall outside their presidencies, while Trump became the first sitting American president to visit the holy site in 2017, according to the White House.

Trump has also publicly backed Netanyahu’s reelection campaign, calling him a “Great Warrior Prime Minister” and praising his cooperation against Iran in an Oct. 18 Truth Social post.

Vice President JD Vance, however, declined to endorse Netanyahu despite Trump’s public support, saying he would focus on American candidates ahead of the November midterms. “I’m not anti-endorsing him. I’m not pro-endorsing him. I’m not getting involved in Israeli elections,” Vance told journalist Mark Halperin during a Monday interview aboard Air Force Two, according to the White House press pool.

The meeting also raises questions about the enormous American military resources already expended defending Israel. The U.S. military fired more interceptors defending Israel than Israeli forces fired themselves in the Iran War, The Washington Post reported, citing Pentagon assessments and American officials.

American forces fired more than 200 Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) interceptors, roughly half their inventory, while U.S. Navy warships launched more than 100 SM-3 and SM-6 interceptors. Israel fired fewer than 100 Arrow interceptors and approximately 90 David’s Sling interceptors, The Washington Post reported.

The Pentagon previously defended the expenditure, arguing that both militaries shared the defensive burden when accounting for fighter aircraft and other defensive systems, Chief Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell told the DCNF.

The conflict has also severely depleted America’s missile interceptor inventories. By July, U.S. Patriot stocks had fallen below 1,000 missiles, while THAAD inventories stood at approximately 250 interceptors, according to the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS).

The Trump administration also approved a $2.8 billion arms package for Israel, including 40,000 2,000-pound bombs and 20,000 bunker-busting warheads, The New York Times reported, citing a U.S. official. The proposed sale would represent one of the largest deliveries of American munitions to Israel, although the weapons could take months or years to produce and deliver, according to the outlet.

The visit follows a substantial American military buildup in the Middle East. Approximately 9,000 additional sailors and Marines are deploying aboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt carrier strike group and USS Makin Island amphibious ready group, potentially bringing the American naval presence above 20,000 personnel, The Associated Press reported, citing a U.S. official.

Beyond the military costs, the Iran War has devastated global energy markets by disrupting oil and natural gas shipments through the Strait of Hormuz. The conflict has caused the largest oil supply disruption on record, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA).

The agency projects global oil supply will decline by an average of 5.8 million barrels per day in 2026, with renewed attacks threatening recovery, according to its October report.

Netanyahu faces parliamentary elections Oct. 27, while Americans vote Nov. 3. Neither government has publicly disclosed what Hegseth and Netanyahu discussed or announced a decision to launch another major offensive against Iran.
