by forliberty.news ~ Congress and the White House are already working on what would be the third fiscal response to the coronavirus epidemic. While the price tags for the first two efforts are still a moving target... but will easily exceed $100 billion, the third trip to the fiscal well could be a cool $1 trillion: The government’s economic stimulus is set to quickly balloon into trillion-dollar territory in the coming days, the largest rescue in modern American history, as major industries flood the Trump administration and Capitol Hill for aid while huge swaths of the economy stall from the coronavirus crisis. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin will meet with Senate Republicans behind closed doors on Tuesday to present lawmakers with options for aid to airlines, hotels, casinos and small-to-medium-sized businesses. The White House was pushing for a package of more than $800 billion, POLITICO reported Monday, and on Tuesday the Treasury Department was preparing to unveil a package of $850 billion including more than $50 billion for the airline industry, $250 billion for small-business support and $500 billion for a payroll tax holiday. So tax holidays, corporate bailouts…if some of this seems a bit like the government’s response to the Great Recession, you wouldn’t be wrong. Back then, the bill was a comparatively paltry $787 billion…and self-styled fiscal conservatives railed against it all as a titanic waste of taxpayer money. Now, the political class can’t spend money fast enough: The Trump administration is pushing to send direct payments to Americans in the next two weeks as huge parts of the economy shut down. “Americans need cash now,” Mnuchin said. “And the president wants to get cash now. And I mean now in the next two weeks.“ He planned to discuss the move with lawmakers and announce details later Tuesday...  http://forliberty.news/2020/03/17/here-come-the-bailouts/

{ foxnews.com } ~ A staff member in Vice President Mike Pence’s office has tested positive for coronavirus, a spokesperson for Pence announced Friday evening... making that individual the first publicly-known positive case of a White House staffer. “‪This evening we were notified that a member of the Office of the Vice President tested positive for the Coronavirus,” Katie Miller, Pence’s press secretary, said in a statement. “Neither President Trump nor Vice President Pence had close contact with the individual.” Pence’s office did not identify the individual or provide other information about the person or the job they hold. But the Pence spokeswoman said steps are being made to trace others the person has come in contact with. “Further contact tracing is being conducted in accordance with CDC guidelines,” Miller said. Pence was appointed by Trump to lead the White House’s coronavirus task force, which has been holding daily press briefings on the virus. In recent days, Trump has joined Pence and others on the task force for briefings. The outbreak has seen others in politics diagnosed with coronavirus: Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart, R-Fla., on Wednesday became the first member of Congress to announce that he was infected. Not long after Diaz-Balart’s announcement, Rep. Ben McAdams, D-Utah, announced that he, too, had tested positive. A week ago, Trump took a coronavirus test -- after exposure to infected individuals -- but said it came back negative. That test followed Trump’s interactions with the presidential delegation from Brazil at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, as well as his appearance at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) earlier this month. People at both locations were later determined to have been infected. Earlier this week, the vice president said he had not been tested. "I have not been tested yet," Pence said Monday. "I’m in regular consultation with the White House physician, and he said I’ve not been exposed to anyone for any period of time that had the coronavirus, and that my wife and I have no symptoms." As of Friday evening, the United States had more than 18,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus resulting in 227 deaths.

{ aim.org } ~ The media has ripped the Trump administration for not having enough coronavirus tests for the American public... But on Tuesday, Dr. Anthony Fauci said the delay is due to a “technical glitch” that slowed production of the tests, not the actions of the president or the CDC. Fauci, the director for the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, told radio host Hugh Hewitt that Trump and the CDC are not to blame for the test delays. Fauci said a “technical glitch” that delayed the production of usable tests in the United States. Fauci said it was an example of random error that could not have been avoided by any president. “It was a complicated series of multiple things that conflated that just, you know, went the wrong way,” Fauci said. “One of them was a technical glitch that slowed things down in the beginning. Nobody’s fault. There wasn’t any bad guys there. It just happened.” These outlets blamed Trump in their coverage: Wall Street Journal: “Trump Administration Confronts New Coronavirus Testing Woes”...Associated Press: “Trump scrambles to broaden coronavirus testing options”   The Hill: “Senators hit Trump health officials over coronavirus testing delays”.

{ dailysignal.com } ~ Iran, which faces one of the most widespread COVID-19 coronavirus outbreaks outside of China, is paying a heavy price for the mismanagement, dishonesty, and self-serving priorities of its Islamist clerical regime... Iran’s totalitarian rulers remain in denial about the scope and consequences of the pandemic, preferring to save face rather than save lives. The ayatollahs played down the danger of the outbreak and delayed taking decisive measures to slow the spread of the virus to project total control and invincibility, and to avoid damaging the regime’s political, ideological, and economic interests. The excavation of trenches for mass graves at the Behesht-e-Masoumeh complex in Qom, the epicenter of Iran’s virus outbreak, and images of coronavirus victims in black bags crowding the floors of an Iranian morgue are grim signs that the scale and impact of the coronavirus is far deadlier than the Iranian regime is reporting. Iranian officials initially downplayed the severity of the outbreak, losing critical time to contain the spread of the virus. The government announced the first two coronavirus-related deaths on Feb. 19, two days before parliamentary elections that hard-liners hoped would restore the tattered legitimacy of the oppressive, corrupt, and increasingly resented regime. Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, accused the country’s enemies of exaggerating the threat posed by the coronavirus shortly before the elections to discourage the turnout of voters, which he knew would be low due to the lack of popular support for the regime. In November, anti-government protests in Iran demonstrated the Iranian people’s dissatisfaction with the regime. Disaffection turned into outright anger against the regime after Iran’s Revolutionary Guards shot down a Ukrainian airliner in January, killing many Iranian passengers and refusing to take responsibility for three days. In a statement to the country on Feb. 25, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani refused to admit that the outbreak was quickly spiraling out of control, claiming that this was “one of the enemy’s plots to bring our country into closure by spreading panic.”...  https://www.dailysignal.com/2020/03/20/iranian-regimes-reckless-disregard-made-the-coronavirus-outbreak-worse/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=iranian-regimes-reckless-disregard-made-the-coronavirus-outbreak-worse?utm_source=TDS_Email&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=MorningBell&mkt_tok=eyJpIjoiT1dZeFpETTNObU0yT1ROaiIsInQiOiI0RlA2dzE2dXFlcU00ckMyOUlkaERxY2FscjlNY1wvd204SlBWY3YrYWo5WXNsUmk5RzFoWGQ4OHR2ZEVEOHkzSk1HNkxkRXcya25PQ0UxWmcxOTBCUU9EVWNxNlkrNXNWR3VOb3QycWp1RXp5Z0FreWVmVkV1eG5VQ2o2RUFMcDgifQ%3D%3D

by conservativesociety.org ~ Gas prices continue to fall as the country struggles to contain the spread of the deadly coronavirus. While many Americans are grateful for lower gas prices... the opportunity to save at the gas pump could not have come at a worse time. According to the gas price site GasBuddy.com., the average price across the United States is currently at $2.19. Their analysts predict some gas stations even seeing price drops as low as 99 cents. AAA is currently reporting the national average of gas prices has declined to $2.17 with 19 states being under $2.00 per gallon. This is the lowest it’s been since December 2016. Coupled with the coronavirus pandemic, the oil wars between Russia and Saudi Arabia has caused a downward spiral in the financial markets, causing much concern in the US energy industry. The last time Saudi Arabia lowered the price of oil, it caused massive job losses in the energy sector. Earlier this year, Saudi Arabia announced it would raise production to over 10 billion barrels of oil per day after it was reported that OPEC’s deal with Russia collapsed...  https://www.conservativesociety.org/united-voice/gas-under-1-its-possible/?utm_source=AT&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=AT-032020-pm

We Don’t Need Divisive Attacks

{ dailysignal.com } ~ Opening public meetings with prayer is such a long-standing American tradition that it is puzzling why some continue to seek the demise of the practice based on subjective claims that such prayers are “inappropriate and divisive.”... Consider these news reports just since Jan. 26: A newspaper in Venice, Florida, reported that the Venice City Council may end its practice of praying before public meetings, following a complaint by a group from Wisconsin. In Ohio, members of the New Carlisle City Council changed their premeeting prayers to a moment of silence to end an emerging controversy. In Las Vegas, the Clark County School District ended prayers entirely, again after a “watchdog” group complained. In Connersville, Indiana, the city council  reconsidered its policies after a local resident asked to present an invocation that is secular, rather than religious. Following their lead, county leaders reportedly are considering doing the same. The West Virginia House of Delegates now faces a complaint for the seconds long prayer opening its recent session—this only a few weeks after suggestions that the city of Wheeling, West Virginia, switch to a secular prayer. These attacks on the time-honored tradition of legislative invocations not only ignore history and tradition, but also the unequivocal language of the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court has twice in the last half-century upheld the longstanding, religiously expressive practice of legislative prayer...

The Trump administration made it clear yesterday that it is going to propose a big economic stimulus package to boost the economy, which is being hammered by the coronavirus fallout. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin is on Capitol Hill discussing the plan with Senate Republicans.

The White House is seeking approximately $850 billion in tax relief and loans to industries most affected by the economic shutdown. While President Trump prefers a payroll-tax “holiday,” the White House signaled it is open to direct cash payments to households ASAP.

Mnuchin told reporters, “We’re looking at sending checks to Americans immediately… [Laid off] Americans need cash now. And the president wants to get cash [out] now.” In addition, he said the administration would defer owed tax payments interest-free and penalty-free for 90 days.

Here’s the most important thing: The Trump/Pence team worked through the night to develop this stimulus plan. It is committed to getting us through this crisis, and all options are on the table.

Combatting the Coronavirus

Monday the White House released new recommendations for combatting the Chinese coronavirus (COVID-19). Here’s what you need to know:

  • Follow the directions of your state and local authorities.

  • If you feel sick, stay home. Do not go to work. Contact your medical provider.

  • If your children are sick, keep them at home. Contact your medical provider.

  • If someone in your household has tested positive for the coronavirus, keep the entire household at home.

  • If you are an older American, stay home and away from other people.

  • If you are a person with a serious underlying health condition — such as a significant heart or lung problem — stay home and away from other people.

In addition, the White House is also urging Americans to:

  • Work from home whenever possible.

  • Avoid gatherings of more than 10 people.

  • Avoid bars, restaurants and food courts. Use delivery, pickup and drive-thru options when possible.

  • Avoid discretionary travel.

  • Avoid unnecessary visits to nursing homes and retirement centers.

These guidelines build on the CDC’s recommendations to fight the spread of the virus, and everyone can do their part. Everyone should avoid touching their face, continue washing their hands regularly for at least 20 seconds, and wipe down surfaces — tables, countertops, keyboards, etc. — in the home often.

Even those who are young and healthy are at risk. But most importantly, your activities can increase the risk of spreading the coronavirus to others who are in more danger from it, specifically those over 70 and people with serious preexisting medical problems.

Yesterday, the White House also announced new “telemedicine” options for Medicare recipients, as well as reforms to burdensome HIPAA laws and regulations. And it’s worth repeating that under Trump’s leadership a vaccine for COVID-19 has been approved in record time.

Left-Wing Hate

It would be nice if in a time of crisis we could all come together for the good of the country. Sadly, that’s not happening.

Many on the left are exploiting this crisis, desperately hoping they can use it to take down Trump. They are lying to you and contributing to the fear and panic that has gripped the country.

Here are some examples of what I am referring to:

  • Speaker liar-Nancy Pelosi tried to hijack an emergency spending bill to subsidize abortions. Only the left can see a piece of time-sensitive and life-saving legislation as an opportunity to kill more unborn babies. Thankfully, the provision was dropped.

  • During a conference call with governors, the president encouraged them to try getting respirators and ventilators themselves because it could be quicker while adding that the federal government would support them however it can. But The New York Times only reported the first part of Trump’s remarks, and that’s the part that went viral. (Pun intended.) Dozens of news outlets ran misleading headlines suggesting that Trump had essentially abandoned the states.

  • Some so-called “progressives” are hoping Trump and his conservative supporters get sick and die.

  • Some leftists like anti-Second Amendment activist David Hogg and Rep. Rashida Tlaib mocked  Christians for praying during this crisis.

  • They have pushed political correctness and thrown around accusations of racism.

  • They falsely accused the president of dismantling  the White House office of pandemic preparedness.

  • They lied and claimed he gutted the budgets of vital health agencies.

  • They falsely accused the president of calling the virus a hoax.

I could go on, but you get the point.

Looking Ahead

Since many leftists are obsessed with politicizing this virus, let’s examine how it could play out in the weeks and months ahead. While the stock-market crash and economic uncertainty are not good news, the president still has a strong hand to play. For example:

  • We saw how Trump grew the economy during the first three years of his administration. Compare that to the eight years of malaise under scumbag/liar-nObama/loose lips liar-Biden. Who wants to go back to that?!

  • Trump can say that he championed border security because we had no idea who was coming into the country and whether they were sick or not. But the left fought him tooth and nail every step of the way. Now Canada, Germany, and several South American countries are sealing their borders.

  • Trump can say that he has led the charge against our dependency on communist China, while liberals like Joe Biden were bowing to Beijing. On this point, I am pleased to report that the White House is considering additional steps to secure our vital medical supply chains.

And speaking of loose lips liar-Joe Biden, here’s another headline proving that he’s no moderate:  "loose lips liar-Biden Says He’ll Adopt Plans From commie-Sanders, dinky/liar-Warren.“   ~The Patriot Post

{ dailysignal.com } ~ The Senate’s new coronavirus aid package is a mixed bag, according to a new report from The Heritage Foundation... “Any action that Congress takes should be targeted, temporary, and linked directly to the coronavirus epidemic in order to address the source of the economic shock while limiting any political abuse that can develop in a moment of crisis,” states the report’s summary. “Unfortunately, the Senate’s coronavirus bill, the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, misses this mark by including special benefits to specific industries that will exceed $200 billion.” The Heritage Foundation’s report is titled “The Senate’s Coronavirus Bill: Bailouts, Missed Opportunities, and Positive Reforms. ”The Senate’s aid package, which was released by Republicans Thursday and could be voted on as soon as this weekend, would cost up to $1 trillion. It would give monetary relief to airlines and other industries impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as send checks to many Americans. Among other provisions, couples who make up to $150,000 a year would get checks for $2,400 in the mail and individuals earning up to $75,000 would get checks for $1,200, The Daily Signal’s Fred Lucas reported. Individuals who make over $99,000 a year and couples making over $198,000 would not receive any federal assistance under the current legislation. The Heritage report, authored by eight researchers focusing on health care and economics, states: Broad-based relief is not a well-targeted prescription for this crisis. … Government supports should be targeted toward keeping people employed and supporting those who do lose their jobs due to the coronavirus crisis. “Liquidity is the key to rescuing the nation from the worst potential economic impact of the coronavirus,” Schatz said. “If the airlines can’t fly, they can’t pay bills. If individuals can’t pay rent or buy food, they need help from the government. This does not mean that fiscal responsibility should be completely abandoned. The funds must be used as intended for only as long as necessary.”...     https://www.dailysignal.com/2020/03/20/what-conservatives-think-of-senates-coronavirus-aid-package/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=what-conservatives-think-of-senates-coronavirus-aid-package&mkt_tok=eyJpIjoiWkRZMFl6ZzJOVE5rWkRrMiIsInQiOiIrK2d6TDNGcnM5TDJRRG1FNlVqU1hPVTF2cm5HU0NycHlyOXZLM3dCVm43QUJcL2JoUDdnb1lMV1F5UlFWMmZIa0Q3YUpVb200TjQybW1rZ0VCeDdvckpBS1ZUNUVUcDBLR2VFRk1TVW5hbGNRMU5wV0xoY2lkWkdQY3VZMDcwcUIifQ%3D%3D

Studies Claim Malaria Drug Chloroquine

{ breitbart.com } ~ Sure this Coronavirus pandemic is a misery but I’m much more optimistic than most at the moment. Here’s one of the reasons: there’s an effective treatment already and it’s available and cheap, according to studies... Chloroquine phosphate, an old-fashioned anti-malarial drug, has shown strong results against COVID-19 infections in South Korea and China. As Anthony Watts notes here there have been at least three studies demonstrating its efficacy against the Coronavirus. Here is one, by James M Todaro and Gregory J Rigano, in association with Stanford University School of Medicine and National Academy of Sciences Researchers. According to the summary: Recent guidelines from South Korea and China report that chloroquine is an effective antiviral therapeutic treatment against Coronavirus Disease 2019. Use of chloroquine tablets is showing favorable outcomes in humans infected with Coronavirus including faster time to recovery and shorter hospital stay. US CDC research shows that chloroquine also has strong potential as a prophylactic preventative measure against coronavirus in the lab, while we wait for a vaccine to be developed. Chloroquine is an inexpensive, globally available drug that has been in widespread human use since 1945 against malaria, autoimmune and various other conditions. It concludes: Chloroquine can both prevent and treat malaria. Chloroquine can both prevent and treat coronavirus in primate cells. According to South Korean and China human treatment guidelines, chloroquine is effective in treating COVID-19. Given chloroquine’s human safety profile and existence, it can be implemented today in the U.S., Europe and the rest of the world. Medical doctors may be reluctant to prescribe chloroquine to treat COVID-19 since it is not FDA approved for this use. The United States of America and other countries should immediately authorize and indemnify medical doctors for prescribing chloroquine to treat COVID-19. We must explore whether chloroquine can safely serve as a preventative measure prior to infection of COVID-19 to stop further spread of this highly contagious virus...

by algemeiner.com ~ Israeli pharmaceutical giant Teva on Friday announced that it would donate millions of tablets containing a possible coronavirus cure to hospitals across the US... A statement from the company said that more than 6 million doses of hydroxychloroquine sulfate — touted as a potential remedy for coronavirus sufferers — would be distributed through its wholesalers. “We are committed to helping to supply as many tablets as possible as demand for this treatment accelerates at no cost,” Brendan O’Grady — Teva Executive Vice President, North America Commercial — stated. “Immediately upon learning of the potential benefit of hyroxychloroquine, Teva began to assess supply and to urgently acquire additional ingredients to make more product while arranging for all of what we had to be distributed immediately.” Hydroxychloroquine is an arthritis medicine that also can be used to prevent malaria. It is available in the US by prescription only. It is marketed under the brand name Plaquenil and it is also sold as a generic medicine. Teva’s statement emphasized that while hydroxychloroquine was “not currently approved for use in the treatment of COVID-19, it is currently under investigation for efficacy against the coronavirus and has been requested by US government officials to be made available for use immediately.” Teva added that it was “also reviewing supply of both hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine globally to determine whether there are additional supply and access opportunities for patients.” At his White House press conference on Thursday, President Donald Trump hailed hydroxychloroquine as a potential “game-changer” as the US battles the spread of the virus. Medical professionals were less sanguine, however. Asked about the president’s comments during an interview with CNN later on Thursday, Dr. Anthony Fauci — director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases — responded, “There’s no magic drug out there right now.” Fauci added: “That doesn’t mean that we’re not going to do everything we can to make things that have even a hint of efficacy more readily available.”

{ theconservativetreehouse.com } ~ Earlier today President Trump announced the closing of the southern border (Mexico) and northern border (Canada) to non essential travel... Entry/Exit for trade and business travel will continue to operate with additional screening. President Trump is taking action at our northern and southern borders to prevent further spread of the coronavirus in the United States. ♦ The United States has reached mutual agreements with Canada and Mexico to restrict non-essential travel across our northern and southern borders. ♦ The United States will expeditiously return aliens who cross between ports of entry or are otherwise not allowed to enter the country, as the facilities in which these aliens would normally be held cannot support quarantine for the time needed to assess potential cases...  https://theconservativetreehouse.com/2020/03/20/mutual-agreement-u-s-closes-mexico-and-canada-border-blocking-non-essential-travel/

{ theconservativetreehouse.com } ~ Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue has an important message about the U.S. food sector. With shortages in the retail food deliver sector the last part is key…. “don’t take more than you would normally use in a week or two.”... The aspect that most models are missing, is the pressure on the supply-chain will not soon end. The restaurant sector ‘food away from home’ appears to be operating at far less than half capacity perhaps as low as 25% due to coronavirus restrictions. As long as those food consumers remain shifted into the retail supply chain food at home, there are going to be long-term shortages due to capacity constraints and distribution limits. To gain an idea of the scale of the challenge here’s some big picture analytics. There are approximately 50,000 retail outlets for grocery sales nationwide with about 250 large scale distribution centers warehouses regionally placed. If you take an average across all grocers, a conservative estimate for one product category, hot dogs, each retail store would need roughly 20 cases for a resupply all brands. That’s one million cases of hot dogs across all retail outlets. 50,000 stores at 20 cases each. However, the distribution centers would also need 1 million cases, for a replenishment average of 2.5 to 3 days later.  Additionally, within 7 days from the original delivery date another 1 million cases would have to arrive from the manufacturers to resupply the distribution centers...

Stores Set up Senior Shopping Hours

by headlinewealth.com ~ As senior citizens deal with anxiety about the coronavirus, grocery store chains and other retailers have come up with a way to ease their fears... shopping times reserved exclusively for them. Target, Whole Foods, Walmart and Dollar General, as well as supermarkets in Europe, began dedicating early morning shopping times for older customers this week. The theory is that allowing seniors to shop among smaller crowds could reduce their chances of acquiring the virus and give them first crack at buying hand sanitizer and other products that have been hard to find because of panic shopping. The idea seems to have worked well in smaller shops but backfired in some larger stores, where big crowds made “social distancing” difficult. Better yet, Petri said, would be for seniors to get groceries delivered to their homes.  https://headlinewealth.com/stores-set-up-senior-shopping-hours/

What's Not Happening
images-1.jpeg
by Tom McLaughlin
{tommclaughlin.blogspot.com} ~It’s been a while, but I haven’t seen any gunfights in the streets of Maine or New Hampshire the past few years and I live very near the border between the two. That’s what progressives predicted would occur if gun laws loosened and people didn’t have to get permits to carry concealed guns. I haven’t seen any newspaper articles or television reports about increased gun violence either after each state passed legislation eliminating concealed carry permits. It’s been three years in New Hampshire and more than four years in Maine, so were the progressives wrong when they predicted both states would turn into the wild, wild west?
images-2.jpeg
Police chiefs in both states were also against the new laws claiming their officers would at risk. What do they say now? Nothing. Vermont never required concealed carry permits and it’s always been one of the safest states in the country. That fact was ignored by progressive gun control advocates when they argued against New Hampshire and Maine revisions of concealed carry permits to copy Vermont.
kj5ziq70qgo31.png
Many people in the three northern New England states still leave their doors unlocked and crime rates remain very low. Is that because guns here are as common as unlocked doors? That’s probably a factor but not the only one. Most people own guns here and know how to use them. That’s a deterrent, certainly, but they also know who their neighbors are. There’s a much stronger sense of community. People here tend to look out for each other and are wary of strangers and unfamiliar vehicles in their neighborhoods.
opG2d2o.jpg
Most rural towns in northern New England don’t have police departments either. They rely on county sheriff’s deputies and the state police. Because of logistics and geography, response times for those larger law enforcement agencies are slower than police departments are in New York City or Boston. Rural people know this so they’re not only more prepared to defend themselves, they’re more willing to do so as well. They’re much less likely to cower in the face of criminal aggression of any sort.
images-8.jpeg
There’s been no let-up in gun crimes for either state since gun laws were relaxed, but the perpetrators usually had prior felony convictions, so carrying a gun remained illegal for them. That didn’t stop them, of course, but then it never did. If you look around and see where most gun crimes are committed, you’ll quickly learn that they’re places with strict gun control laws like Chicago and New York. Gun laws on those places have only been obeyed by the law-abiding. Criminals have historically ignored them.
image008.jpg
Although commie-Bernie Sanders has always been a doctrinaire lefty on nearly every issue since he was elected Mayor of Burlington, Vermont almost forty years ago, his position on gun control didn’t fit the mold. Is that because he knew he would never have been elected to state-wide office there if he favored gun restrictions? His army of supporters would likely argue that commie-Bernie has always been guided by principle over political expediency, but is that changing?
Unknown-2.jpeg
According to an article by Russell Berman in the February 27 issue of The Atlantic:

The senator from Vermont’s hallmark has been his consistency as an unbending progressive over four decades in elected office. Yet if commie-Sanders has embodied left-wing purity more than any of the other potential Democratic nominees, gun policy is one area where his record has been far from pristine in the eyes of progressives… But it’s telling that on gun control, he has gone further this time around to repudiate his past positions and align himself with the Democratic Party’s mainstream opinion. “The world has changed, and my views have changed,” he said at the February debate in New Hampshire.
images-9.jpeg
Was commie-Bernie sincere about his gun control views forty years ago? Is he caving in to political expediency here in 2020? He really wants to be president, but what if he loses to Biden or Trump? Can he be reelected senator in Vermont now that he’s become a gun control advocate? We may never know because he’s not up again until 2024 and by then he’ll be eighty-two years old. Maybe he’ll retire. Maybe he’ll change his position again.

While Democrats consider abortion their most important issue, gun control seems to have become the next most important. Maine and New Hampshire have been voting Democrat the past few cycles, and Vermont has been solidly “blue” for even longer. Maine and New Hampshire, however, are moving the other way on gun control. While Vermont has become even more leftist, there’s no indication they’ll tighten up on guns.

{ dailysignal.com } ~ The coronavirus has changed almost every facet of American life. It has disrupted work routines, sent children home from school, and stress-tested the global supply chain... Medical researchers have warned for weeks that the new coronavirus, which causes the disease COVID-19, is particularly dangerous to seniors and those with underlying health conditions. But in West Coast cities such as Seattle, San Francisco, and Los Angeles, public authorities are quickly discovering another potential tinderbox for infection: homeless encampments.  This has caused significant political discomfort. Three weeks ago, when Seattle radio host Jason Rantz warned about the potential for an outbreak within homeless encampments, progressive activists slammed him as a “fascist” hoping to set up concentration camps for the most vulnerable. However, within days, the progressive narrative collapsed—the homeless are, in fact, uniquely vulnerable to the COVID-19 pandemic. As The New York Times put it: The homeless are more susceptible to contracting the disease … because of the cramped quarters in shelters, the sharing of utensils and the lack of hand-washing stations on the streets. Once infected the chronically homeless are more likely to get much sicker or die because of underlying medical conditions. In San Francisco, public authorities are testing 30 homeless individuals who are hospitalized with symptoms of the coronavirus. If this population tests positive for the disease, the homeless would represent nearly half of all total confirmed cases countywide...   https://www.dailysignal.com/wp-content/uploads/Tenderlointents2.jpg

Rigano followed up with an appearance on Fox News Wednesday, where he said, “And I’m here to report that as of this morning, about 5:00 this morning, a well-controlled peer-reviewed study carried out by the most eminent infectious disease specialist in the world—Didier Raoult, MD, PhD—out of the south of France, in which he enrolled 40 patients, again, a well-controlled peer review study, that showed a 100 percent cure rate against coronavirus.” “The study was released this morning on my Twitter account, @Riganoesq as well as our most recent website, @covidtrial.io” Rigano continued. “The study was recently accepted to the International Journal of Antimicrobial Agents by Elsevier.” “In fact to be able to cure a virus was said to be mathematically impossible, and the first company that did it was a small biotech called Pharmacet that was acquired by Gilead Sciences in a cure for hepatitis C. What we’re here to announce is a second cure to a virus of all time,” Rigano added. Tom Cotton Debuts Plan to Take Pharma

By Charles Fain Lehman
{ freebeacon.com } ~ Sen. Tom Cotton (R., Ark.) introduced legislation Thursday to repatriate pharmaceutical manufacturing from China to America... aiming to reduce a dependency that could seriously limit the U.S. coronavirus response. The bill, which Cotton introduced with Rep. Mike Gallagher (R., Wis.), aims to severely curtail the volume of Chinese active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) from the U.S. medical drug supply. The PRC currently produces most of the world's APIs—the "active ingredients" in commonly used drugs—leaving the United States and other nations critically dependent on it for medicines. Cotton's is just the latest proposal to onshore pharmaceutical supply chains, including a similar one from Sen. Marco Rubio (R., Fla.) and rumblings from the White House about a "buy American" executive order. Prompted by the coronavirus pandemic, many are beginning to see the cost-savings from Chinese-made pharmaceuticals as not worth the risk of undersupply during another pandemic, or during a potential conflict with America's main geostrategic rival.  "China unleashed this plague on the world, and China has to be held accountable," said Cotton during a Fox News interview  Wednesday evening. "It's too grave a threat to let our health rest on Chinese drugs." The Cotton bill would directly target Chinese API producers, requiring the FDA to track the point of origin for APIs and drugs made outside of the United States, as well as requiring drug companies to list the country of origin for APIs on their products. It would also prohibit all federal entities—including the Departments of Health and Human Services, Veterans Affairs, and Defense—from purchasing drugs that use APIs made in China. The bill also aims to bolster domestic pharmaceutical production capacity. It would allow domestic manufacturers to immediately expense the costs of expanding production capacity, giving such businesses a major write-off on their taxes. If successful, that provision could help U.S.-based manufacturers compete with lower-cost Chinese ones, keeping drug prices low even as production moves back to the United States...

{ cms.frontpagemag.com } ~ MK Ofer Shelah from the Blue and White party is the architect of his party’s current efforts to form a government with the support of Joint Arab List... If Shelah succeeds, he will have formed a radical, post-Zionist minority government entirely dependent on 15 Arab lawmakers, who reject Israel’s right to exist, just to stay afloat. As Shelah blazed forward in his efforts, political philosopher Yoram Hazony recalled an earlier bid by Shelah to force the public to accept post-Zionist positions hostile to the very right of the Jewish people to self-determination. In February 2001, the Yitzhak Rabin Center convened a meeting of Israel’s elites from across the political spectrum to compose a document that would set out the Jewish goals of the State of Israel. The meetings led to the drafting of the Kinneret Charter, which in later years served as the basis for the 2018 Basic Law: Israel, the Nation-State of the Jewish People. The Rabin Center was spurred to action by three dramatic events. First in July 2000, PLO chief Yassir Arafat rejected Ehud Barak’s offer of statehood and peace at the Camp David summit, effectively ending the Oslo peace process. In September, Arafat ordered his terror forces to initiate a campaign of terror against Israel the likes of which hadn’t been seen since the 1930s. And in October 2000, the Arab Israeli community joined the Palestinian onslaught. In two weeks of violent riots, Arab Israelis throughout the country assaulted their Jewish neighbors and countrymen and called for the destruction of the state. The third event – the Arab Israeli riots – shook Israeli society to its core because it called into question the very survival of the state as a coherent political unit. As a well-known journalist, Shelah was invited to participate in the inaugural meeting. Hazony recalled that the politician now pushing the hardest to form a government reliant the Joint Arab List which rejects the legitimacy of the Jewish state, stood up and announced that he refused to participate in a Jewish-only forum and demanded that Arab Israelis be invited to participate. Prof. Ruth Gavison, perhaps the most influential intellectual on the Left at the time, responded that Jews have a right to convene to discuss their future just as Arabs do. Most of the participants, including some on the far left, like former Education Minister Prof. Yuli Tamir from Peace Now, agreed with Gavison...

Nate Jackson  As coronavirus ravishes the American economy, the Trump administration and Senate Republicans are working on a third aid package that may top $1 trillion. The Senate is likely to first pass the  House’s $100 billion aid package, which itself followed the initial $8.3 billion emergency measure earlier this month. Wisdom of the “stimulus” specifics aside, the pressure to “do something” is clearly irresistible.

“We need to directly help American workers and families face this uncertain period, and particularly we’re examining policy tools to put money directly and quickly into the hands of American families,” said Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. “We also need to move swiftly and boldly in a major way to help American small businesses survive this disruption and thrive on the other side of it. In particular, we are preparing bold steps to ensure that Main Street can access liquidity and credit during this extraordinary time.”

At the forefront of the package is likely to be an immediate check of at least $1,000 for every adult American (under whatever income level is agreed upon), perhaps followed by a second check in a couple of months. The amount represents about a week’s pay for the typical American worker, but Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin says the amount “may be a little bit bigger than what’s in the press.”

President Donald Trump initially favored a payroll-tax cut, but that would take months to be realized by workers who keep their jobs. He now says, “We want to do something that gets money to them as quickly as possible.”

That will indeed be popular with the millions of Americans who are losing money in real time due to the economic shutdown, which is meant to “flatten the curve” of the viral spread. Perhaps the government checks will even restore the confidence that fuels the stock market.

Still, we’ve tried direct income redistribution twice before and it’s generally ineffective at stimulating the economy. The difference is the previous two times were tax “rebates.” This would just be a direct payment financed by deficit spending. With a national debt of $23.5 trillion and a projected deficit of $1 trillion before spending another  trillion, however, the U.S. can’t afford this ineffectual “stimulus.”

Then again, with a national debt of $23.5 trillion, what’s another $1 trillion among friends?

The real problem is that Democrats are seeding an expectation of Universal Basic Income. “GOP & Democrats are both coming to the same conclusion: Universal Basic Income is going to have to play a role in helping Americans weather this crisis,” declared commie-Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the new face of Democrat economics. Democrats have wanted UBI for years, and they’re not going to let this crisis go to waste. Tulsi Gabbard says she doesn’t want the checks to stop “until COVID-19 no longer presents a public health emergency.” How many trillions of dollars would that end up being?

Compassion for the American workers and their families suffering through what is bound to be a major economic slowdown, if not a recession, is one thing. Bankrupting the country to implement socialism is another.

{ foxbusiness.com } ~ The U.S. is extending the deadline for filing taxes from April 15 to July 15, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said in a tweet on Friday...The decision gives Americans three months longer than they typically would to file their taxes. as the coronavirus pandemic forces large swaths of the economy to shutdown. "At @realDonaldTrump’s direction, we are moving Tax Day from April 15 to July 15," Mnuchin tweeted. "All taxpayers and businesses will have this additional time to file and make payments without interest or penalties."Earlier this week, the Internal Revenue Service said individuals could defer payments of up to $1 million until July 15, but had left the April 15 filing deadline in place. In a second tweet, Mnuchin urged all taxpayers who may receive a tax refund this year "to file now to get your money." The move comes amid Senate Republicans' $1 trillion stimulus package released on Thursday, which would send $1,200 to taxpayers who earn less than $99,000 a year, provide loans for small businesses and large tax cuts for big corporations.

by news.usni.org ~ Shipmates, it’s the 19th of March, 2020, and a lot has changed in the past week. The impacts of the coronavirus are changing daily life for all of us... Our focus right now is three-fold. We must protect our people, we must maintain mission readiness, and finally, we have to support the whole-of-government effort. That is why we have enacted additional policies designed to combat the spread of the coronavirus. We have done a number of things to include moving to shift work, reducing our manning, and increasing our telework. We have closed D.O.D. schools and many M.W.R. facilities as well as curtailed some child and youth programs. We have postponed our E-4 advancement exam, suspended the spring physical readiness test, and postponed drill weekends for reserves until May 11. We’ve also suspended recruit graduation ceremonies until further notice. Additionally, we will pause administrative and statutory promotion boards for the time being. Many things remain open too, including our commissaries, exchanges, military treatment facilities as well as the Military Health System Nurse Advice Line and our My Navy Career Center – available 24/7 to answer your questions. We are also preparing our two 1000-bed hospital ships, the Mercy and Comfort, to get underway to relieve pressure on civilian health providers who are focused on treating folks with the coronavirus. Operationally, to keep our ships, aircraft and submarines ready, commanders are empowered to take the necessary precautions, so they can effectively carry out their missions and meet the critical needs of our Sailors. While 30 percent of our fleet today is underway – including four carrier strike groups and four amphibious ready groups – we must, to the greatest extent possible, practice social distancing as well as good hygiene and cleanliness aboard our ships, in our offices, and in our homes...

Palestinian Leaders Use
Coronavirus to Attack Israel

{ gatestoneinstitute.org } ~ What is the connection between US President Donald Trump's recently unveiled plan for Middle East peace and the coronavirus?... Palestinian leaders seem to believe that there is a connection between the peace plan, also known as the Deal of the Century, and the coronavirus pandemic. According to these leaders, Israel is taking advantage of the health crisis to implement the Trump plan and build new housing units for Jews in the West Bank. They are referring to Israel's intention to build a new road between the E1 area and Jerusalem, and 3,500 apartments in Ma'aleh Adumim, east of Jerusalem. First, the building program in the area has been on the agenda for more than 20 years. All Israeli governments since Yitzhak Rabin's second tenure as prime minister in the 1990s have supported it. Second, the recent Israeli announcement was made in the last week of February, before the outbreak of the coronavirus in Israel and the West Bank. In fact, the announcement came on the eve of the March 3 election and was more likely a pledge from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's electoral campaign. On March 18, the PLO Executive Committee, whose members held a meeting in Ramallah, said that it "rejects the Israeli occupation government's exploitation of the coronavirus to pursue its policy of settlement construction and colonial expansion." The committee, consisting of veteran PLO leaders and loyalists of Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, claimed that the Israeli government and Jewish settlers were exploiting the outbreak of the virus to "destroy trees, attack houses and vehicles, and pave new roads for the use of settlers in the West Bank in order to implement the ominous so-called Deal of the Century."...  https://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/15773/palestinian-leaders-coronavirus-israel

{ foxnews.com } ~ California Gov. Gavin Newsom on Thursday evening announced he's enacting a "statewide order" for its nearly 40 million residents to "stay at home,"... a wide-reaching measure for the most populous state in the country as the coronavirus spreads. The order took effect midnight on Friday morning. It prohibits gatherings outside and requires nonessential businesses to close in an effort to slow the spread of the virus. “We need to bend the curve in the state of California,” Newsom said during a news conference. “There’s a social contract here. People, I think, recognize the need to do more. They will adjust and adapt as they have.”He added, “This is a moment we need to make tough decisions. This is a moment where we need some straight talk and we need to tell people the truth.” Public events have been canceled and bars, dine-in restaurants, gyms and clubs will be closed. Essential services such as grocery stores, pharmacies and banks will stay open. Newsom's office projected the virus will infect more than half of Californias within two months, according to a letter he sent to President Trump on Wednesday where he said the state has been disproportionality impacted. "In some parts of our state, our case rate is doubling every four days," he wrote Trump. Newsom's order came just after Los Angeles County officials announced a near-lockdown of the county, affecting 10 million residents who were urged to stay home except in cases when they need to go outside for essential needs...

Dems Reject Gun Violence Bill

{ freebeacon.com } ~ Maryland Democrats rejected a bill aimed at combating gun violence as Baltimore mayor Jack Young publicly begged residents to stop shooting each other... so hospitals could be used to treat coronavirus patients. Young, a Democrat, pleaded with residents on Wednesday not to "clog up our hospitals and beds with people who are being shot senselessly." But on the same day, his partymates in the state legislature voted down a bill pushed by Republican governor Larry Hogan that would strengthen penalties for violent criminals. Hogan’s Violent Firearms Offenders Act would make the theft of a firearm a felony and increase penalties for those who repeatedly carry illegal guns or use a gun while drug dealing. The bill passed the state Senate on March 10 following a contentious back-and-forth between lawmakers. Democrats successfully removed the legislation's mandatory minimum sentencing increase, arguing it would punish violent criminals too severely. Following the removal of mandatory minimums and the bill's subsequent passage, state Senate president and Baltimore Democrat Bill Ferguson lauded the legislation's bipartisan nature, saying it included "the legislature's priorities and some of the governor's priorities." Speaker of the House Adrienne Jones did not respond to a request for comment on why the bill was rejected.  Following the Wednesday vote, the Maryland legislature adjourned due to the coronavirus crisis. House Minority Leader Nic Kipke called the failure to pass Hogan's bill "one of the disappointments" of the legislative session. "We still haven't addressed the issue of crime in the state," Kipke said. "It's one of the disappointments for me this session." Democrat state senator Will Smith Jr., who led the charge to remove the bill's mandatory minimums, also expressed discontent. "I don't think anyone has walked out of here thinking that we've done enough," he said...  https://freebeacon.com/issues/dems-reject-gun-violence-bill-as-shootings-surge-in-baltimore/?utm_source=actengage&utm_campaign=FreedomMail&utm_medium=email

{ theconservativetreehouse.com } ~ If rino-Mitt Romney and scumbag/liar-Hillary Clinton had a child, it would be Nikki Haley. Ms. Haley and her paid staff of political wind-testers, are constantly scanning the horizon for optics and issues that might upend her aspirations to the presidency... Today she quits the board of Boeing after the likelihood of a government bailout starts to rise….Former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley stepped down from Boeing’s board of directors after less than a year because she opposes government aid to help the aircraft manufacturer weather the coronavirus crisis, the company said Thursday. Boeing earlier this week said it is seeking $60 billion in government aid for itself and its massive supply chain because of the virus. The manufacturer’s suppliers include United Technologies, General Electric, Spirit Aerosystems and dozens of others. The administration hasn’t yet said what Boeing, a top U.S. military contractor could receive. President Donald Trump this week threw his support behind the manufacturer, saying: “We have to protect Boeing.”...

The Virus, the Media, and the Economy

A friend tweeted from Ireland (in time for St. Patrick’s Day), blaming President Trump for the major decline in the value of stocks. This same friend credited Barack scumbag/liar-nObama’s economic policies when the Dow Jones Industrial Averages approached 30,000.

This — and more — is part of our political, economic and medical divide with mixed messages coming from supposed professionals, amateurs and people who don’t know what they are talking about.

According to Dictionary.com, “panic” is “a sudden overwhelming fear, with or without cause, that produces hysterical or irrational behavior, and that often spreads quickly through a group of persons or animals.”

Is this panic over the coronavirus that has caused the closing of Broadway shows, sports arenas, church services and many schools with or without cause? Is it justified, or not?

We’ll soon know, but as of Monday, 69 people had died from the disease in the U.S., 27 of them at a senior facility in Seattle, Washington.

Here’s a piece of news that has been buried by major media. An Associated Press headline read, “Most coronavirus patients recover, still anxiety, fear loom.” Gee, I wonder why fear and anxiety are looming? Could the major media, which love promoting fear when it comes to hurricanes, also be promoting fear while mostly ignoring those who recover from the virus?

Last Friday CBS reported on the number of people infected, but waited until the last sentence to say this: “The vast majority of cases are mild, and almost half of those infected have recovered.”

A banner headline in red on The Drudge Report said, “150 million Americans could get infected.” This while medical “experts” tell us how to avoid infection with regular handwashing, avoiding people who appear sick, not gathering with large crowds, etc.

Presidential candidates loose lips liar-Joe Biden and commie-Bernie Sanders aren’t helping to lower anxiety. loose lips liar-Biden delivered a speech last week in Delaware with fewer than his usual rhetorical stumbles. As The Hill reports, loose lips liar-Biden proposed “…making testing free and widely available” and establishing “10 mobile sites and drive-thru facilities per state, in addition to greater transparency from the White House…” commie-Sanders, on the other hand, “has used the outbreak as an opportunity to push his progressive agenda, specifically his ‘Medicare for All’ proposal.” Sanders says his plan would ensure free vaccines and treatment to those infected. The Trump administration has outlined similar actions.

Are we being subjected to doublespeak when on the one hand we are told the coronavirus is nothing to be afraid of, if we take precautions, and on the other we are told to run for the hills? Is this a biblical plague or a manageable ailment? Are we facing the judgment of God, or will this, too, pass like the flu, or a cold, or other ailments from which most of us recover?

If the weather is difficult to accurately predict, why would anyone think forecasts related to a virus might be accurate and trustworthy?

I am no prophet, but just as other challenges have confronted America, we will recover from this one. The stock market will revive (it was up nearly 2,000 points last Friday) because the economy remains strong. Schools that are closed will reopen. Broadway lights will go back on. Sports contests with fans in the seats will resume. Church doors will reopen. Normalcy will return.

Last Friday at the White House, Doug McMillon, the CEO of Walmart, announced that parking lots at some of his stores will be used for drive-in coronavirus testing. And Variety reports that Verily, the life sciences division of Alphabet, Google’s parent company, “is in the ‘early stages of development’ with a test slated to roll out initially in the San Francisco Bay Area. … At some point, Verily said, it may expand the tool more widely.”

CEOs from Target, Walgreen’s and CVS were among those also pledging cooperation. Now if only the politicians would stop fighting each other and instead unify to fight the virus.   ~The Patriot Post

CHLOROQUINE COMING SOON IN LIMITED USE
BY SCOTT JOHNSON
{ powerlineblog.com } ~ President Trump presided at today’s White House task force briefing to announce regulatory relief for the use of chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine to treat the Wuhan virus... This was the briefing’s headline news, though many of the questions went off in other directions. President Trump expressed enthusiasm about the possibilities presented by these drugs specifically, an enthusiasm which he emphasized several times. Indeed, he circled back to express it toward the conclusion of the briefing. Despite the restraint with which he expressed himself, I believe he is as excited about the prospects for relief as we are. We are talking about drugs already approved for other uses, drugs whose risks and side effects are therefore well known.  The president had FDA Commissioner Stephen Hahn in attendance with him to discuss the therapies whose use the FDA is expediting. As I understood Hahn’s remarks, the use of chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine is to be limited at present to compassionate use situations while clinical data are compiled. He stated that these already approved anti-malarial and anti-arthritis drugs would be “made available almost immediately by prescription.” He also discussed the expedited use of other therapeutics that are “close to approval.” Given the urgency of the situation, the vagueness and limitations of the anticipated use of these drugs as I heard Hahn’s remarks was frustrating.  Reading or listening between the lines of Trump’s remarks, I also heard Trump saying he hopes to ease the current federal guidelines that have resulted in shutdowns at the end of the current two-week period. Whether that hope is reasonable under the circumstances is another question. I should like to think it is.  https://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2020/03/cholorquine-coming-soon-in-limited-use.php?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+powerlineblog%2Flivefeed+%28Power+Line29

Mnuchin has been working closely with House and Senate political leadership to structure the financial flow needed for particular sectors and workers inside the Main St economy. The target date for legislation directing the financial relief is early next week. The underlying economy is strong. The treasury response is targeted to those who need short-term relief. { theconservativetreehouse.com  } ~ We are entering into phase-3 of the supply-chain distribution shortages within the retail food sector. Phase-1 was immediate impact. Phase-2 was the spread to the warehouse and distribution... Phase-3 impacts are further upstream, processing & suppliers. The current shelf-stock shortages are not soon to reconcile; however, the shortages are still in the regional phase.  Meaning there is a big difference in the availability of products depending on the type of distribution network, and the specific retailers, in your area. The ‘spider-spread effect’ happens when large metropolitan chains, serving large urban and megalopolis areas 1 million+ residents in 50 mile radius, reach a critical shortage in their supply network; and those residents then drive distances to locate their needs. This is going on now across the country as regional supply chains try to keep up with demand.  Most consumers are not aware food consumption in the U.S. is now a 50/50 proposition. Approximately 50% of all food was consumed “outside the home” or food away from home, and 50% of all food consumed was food “inside the home” grocery shoppers...

{ theconservativetreehouse.com } ~ As you watch this, you start to realize the national panic hasn’t yet really sunk in. However, think carefully about the instability of Mr. Slavitt and how he expresses it... Former scumbag/liar-nObamacare official Andy Slavitt appears on MSNBC in a state of panic to demand that all medical masks and equipment throughout the nation be sent to New York City; while accusing other states, including Texas, of “hoarding” critical healthcare supplies. Former FEMA Administrator Craig Fugate recognizes that participating in any discussion with this level of emotional panic is not going to be helpful, he walks off set. Panicked NYC resident and visibly unstable former ACA official Andy Slavitt, is talking about medical equipment when he demands all masks and supplies be redirected to New York with a sense of urgency. Overwhelmed by Growing Coronavirus Death
Toll, Iranian Leaders Lash Out at US, EU

by algemeiner.com ~ As Iran experienced its worst death toll from the coronavirus pandemic this week, panicking Tehran regime officials sought to blame the United States and the European Union for the crisis... In an interview with the Spanish newspaper La Razon, Hassan Qashqavi — the Islamic Republic’s ambassador in Madrid — railed against the “cruel and inhumane” sanctions imposed by the US following its 2018 decision to leave the nuclear deal with Iran that was agreed with the previous scumbag/liar-nObama administration. The 147 coronavirus deaths in Iran on Wednesday marked the highest daily toll in the country so far. Nearly 1,200 Iranians in total are reported to have died — although the regime’s lack of transparency and increasing reliance on the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to enforce “social distancing” protocols likely means the number is higher. The European Union also came in for heavy criticism from Iranian leaders for abiding by the US sanctions. “The Europeans who claim to be advocates of human rights should be ashamed of their behavior at a time when Iran is grappling with the fast-spreading-virus,” Ali Baqeri Kani — head of the Iranian Judiciary’s High Council for Human Rights — declared on Thursday. There is a growing opinion among Iran analysts that the coronavirus presents an unprecedented challenge to the Islamic regime that came to power in 1979, especially as it had already been weakened by the renewal of international sanctions and the US assassination of one of its top military commanders, Gen. Qassem Soleimani, in January. “The regime is not ready for this challenge,” Maj. Gen. (ret.) Yaakov Amidror — a former Israeli national security adviser — told a conference call organized by the Jewish Institute for National Security Affairs (JINSA) on Thursday...   https://www.algemeiner.com/2020/03/19/overwhelmed-by-growing-coronavirus-death-toll-iranian-leaders-lash-out-at-us-eu/?utm_content=news1&utm_medium=daily_email&utm_campaign=email&utm_source=internal/

Thomas Gallatin  What happened to the gas can? In a recent interview with American Institute researcher Jeffrey Tucker, journalist Sharyl Attkisson explores the topic of how government regulation has made things that used to work well now fail to meet muster. After relaying his experience with changes to the gas can and how poorly it pours out its contents, Tucker noted that government regulations are to blame. But it’s not only the gas can that has been regulated into a state worse than before; it’s a litany of devices and appliances that have been made worse by the government.

“These are the sorts of things that affect the quality of our life on a daily basis,” Tucker observes. “Does your ice maker actually make ice? Does your iron work? And this is all because of these regulations. Isn’t it strange how much regulations sort of secretly control all the things we use in our life? We don’t even know it. And they’ll never roll it back, so they never face any real pressure. So there’s no way to revert it. Whereas normally, in private enterprise, if you design something that doesn’t quite work right, people stop buying it and that’s the end, so there’s a mechanism that corrects for errors. But when government’s doing it, they don’t seem to have any way to fix it.”

Tucker’s discovery is not limited to a few inconsequential items. In fact, it’s the all-too-common experience of every American. While he grants that these bureaucrats’ regulations may be well intentioned, he argues, “The problem is that the bureaucrats have inordinate power and if they make a mistake, there’s really nothing that can be done about it. We ended up having to spend the rest of our lives working around them and I don’t think that’s a good way to live. We used to have gasoline cans that worked well. And then we created this innovation that just didn’t work nearly as well.”

In this light, we should be crying foul when politicians like New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio call for the federal government to take over private enterprise, as he did recently over coronavirus fears. “People can get tested according to a priority structure, and it’s not enough testing. It’s just as simple as that,” de Blasio argued after he called on the fed to take control of U.S. businesses in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. He continued, “Here’s the reality. This is a war-like situation. We’re in a war-time scenario with a ‘Mar-a-Lago attitude’ being used by the federal government, right? … This is a case for a nationalization, literally a nationalization, of crucial factories and industries that could produce the medical supplies to prepare this country for what we need.”

Calling for a fascist takeover of America’s private industry is a textbook recipe for ushering in tyranny. And “helping people” is always how tyrants justify their demand for greater power. Somehow, it never works out the way they claim.   ~The Patriot Post

{ foxnews.com } ~ Saying lawmakers "need to take bold and swift action as soon as possible," Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell on Thursday... introduced legislation to provide as much as $1,200 per person and $2,400 per couple in the U.S. amid the coronavirus outbreak and skyrocketing jobless claims. The draft legislation, obtained by Fox News, would provide minimum payments of $600, and aid would be phased down at adjusted gross income thresholds of $75,000 for individuals and $150,000 per couple. Additionally, there would be $500 payments for each child. The rebate amount is slated to be reduced by $5 for each $100 a taxpayer’s income exceeds the legislation's threshold. The amount is therefore reduced to zero for single taxpayers with incomes exceeding $99,000 and $198,000 for joint filers. The IRS will determine income based on U.S. citizen taxpayers' 2018 tax returns. McConnell's proposal aligns with the Trump administration's push to swiftly send checks to American households. The legislation additionally contains numerous provisions geared at helping small businesses, including a delay of payment for employer payroll taxes, a delay of estimated tax payments for corporations, and modifications for net operating losses. McConnell's plan would provide $208 billion in loans and loan guarantees to distressed sectors of the economy, including $50 billion for commercial airlines and $8 billion for air cargo carriers, and $150 billion for other eligible businesses, but those loans would have to be paid back. It's an opening salvo in fast-track talks with Democrats as President Trump urges Congress to “go big” to respond as Americans reel from the crisis. McConnell, R-Ky., speaking on the Senate floor, said he wanted key Republicans to meet with Democrats on the relief bill, known as S.3548, Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (Phase III)...

{ jpost.com } ~ The Health Ministry guidelines to fight the spread of coronavirus will no longer be recommendations or requests.... Rather, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Thursday night that the government will sign existing restrictions into legally enforceable orders, as he declared a national state of emergency. Going forward, for the next seven days, whoever breaks these orders will be subject to fines. "There has not been anything like this since the establishment of the state," the prime minister said. "There has actually been no such thing like this in the last 100 years." “It is not going to be easy; I am asking for your cooperation.” In general, the new orders include that Israelis are not allowed to leave their homes unless "absolutely necessary." Visiting parks, beaches, pools, libraries and museums is prohibited, as are all social interactions. Work that can be done from home should be. Currently all “essential” services will remain open, including supermarkets, pharmacies and most medical services. In addition, while Israelis are encouraged to work from home, employees who need to travel to work will be able to do so. The announcement came on the backdrop of the largest spike in the number of infected Israelis: 677, according to the Health Ministry. At press time Wednesday, 433 Israelis had been diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2 - an increase of 244 patients in one day. It is estimated that the number of people infected with the virus will rise significantly in the wake of the increase in the number of tests that are being conducted. Government hearings in recent days have revealed a significant gap between the Health and Finance ministries. The Health Ministry has been demanding increased restrictions but the Finance Ministry said that it fears further restrictions would cause a serious blow to the economy. A full lockdown would only be implemented if the public fails to comply with the guidelines presented by the Health Ministry or if the rate of infection across the country sharply rises...   https://www.jpost.com/Breaking-News/529-Israelis-have-been-diagnosed-with-coronavirus-Health-Ministry-621536?utm_source=ActiveCampaign&utm_medium=email&utm_content=Netanyahu%3A+Israelis+face+fines+for+breaking+state+of+emergency+orders&utm_campaign=March+19+night

by wethepeopledaily.com ~ Today Speaker Of The House liar-Nancy Pelosi shot down a proposal that would have put money directly into the hands of the American people to help deal with fallout from the Coronavirus... As noted by CommonDreams.org, Progressives erupted with frustration and anger Wednesday over days of reporting that House Speaker liar-Nancy Pelosi would not consider cash payments for Americans without means-testing despite the ongoing coronavirus outbreak that has ground the U.S. economy almost to a standstill.  President Donald Trump and his fellow Republicans have taken the opportunity to outflank liar-Pelosi and House Democrats on the payments, leading to anger from the left. “I truly don’t know how to describe how maddening it is that Republicans and Trump officials are to the left of Congressional Dem leadership on this issue,” tweeted activist Jordan Uhl. Another Wrote: “liar-Nancy Pelosi is against the Trump proposal of sending out checks to Americans. I am against socialism, but we are experiencing a national crisis and Americans are in trouble financially. I fully support Trump’s proposal. liar-Nancy Pelosi is wrong dead wrong.   https://wethepeopledaily.com/2020/03/19/nancy-pelosi-shoots-down-proposal-to-give-americans-direct-financial-relief/

by wnd.com ~ President Trump announced Thursday the FDA has approved the testing of a drug used to treat malaria called chloroquine as a possible COVID-19 treatment...  At the daily coronavirus task force press conference in the White House, Trump said chloroquine has shown "very, very encouraging results" in treating the disease caused by the coronavirus. "I have directed the FDA to eliminate rules and bureaucracy so work can proceed rapidly, quickly and fast," Trump said. "We have to remove every barrier." A researcher who studied the impact of chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine, a less toxic form of chloroquine, says hydroxychloroquine could also act as a coronavirus preventative. Trump told reporters that if chloroquine and other possible treatments work "your numbers are going to come down very rapidly," referring to the number of coronavirus cases. "It could totally depress any timeline we are talking about, if it works," he said. The latest figures for the global pandemic are 236,926 cases, 9,834 deaths and 86,675 recoveries. The president emphasized that chloroquine been on the market for years, "so we know it's something that can be taken safely." He said some coronavirus patients will be treated with the drug within days. "If we can be even partially right" about the drug's impact, he said, "this whole subject becomes a much more pleasant subject." Researchers at the University of Queensland in Australia have said they made the virus "disappear" using chloroquine and the HIV-suppressing combination lopinavair/ritonavir. And a study by Stanford researchers found chloroquine tablets are showing favorable outcomes, "including faster time to recovery and shorter hospital stay." The study cited research by the Centers for Disease Control showing that chloroquine also has strong potential as a preventative measure against coronavirus in the lab while a vaccine is being developed...

{ thehill.com } ~ The head of the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) abruptly resigned Tuesday... leaving a void atop a sprawling agency that oversees the federal workforce. "OPM has received the resignation of OPM Director Dale Cabaniss and OPM Deputy Director Michael Rigas is Acting Director, Office of Personnel Management," an OPM spokesperson confirmed in a statement. Cabaniss's departure was unexpected, according to sources familiar with the matter, and was believed to be related to internal conflicts. She chafed at treatment by John McEntee, the 29-year-old head of the office, as well as Paul Dans, OPM’s White House liaison, Politico reported. McEntee rejoined the White House last month and has set about stocking the administration with officials loyal to President Trump and his agenda. Politico reported that the White House's decision to hire a third college senior  to a sensitive post also contributed to the tensions that preceded Cabaniss's resignation. OPM is an independent agency tasked with overseeing millions of federal workers. The office handles human resources matters and oversees the civil service hiring processes. "If these reports are true, then the Trump administration's mismanagement and political appointees have once again brought chaos to the federal workforce," Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-Va.), chairman of the House Government Operations subcommittee, said in a statement. "At the very moment we need OPM to operate smoothly and efficiently, including expanding telework for all eligible workers and contractors, we are instead faced with uncertainty that threatens to paralyze this agency," he added...   https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/488129-opm-chief-abruptly-resigns-report

Smoking: Time to Break Up?

{ gatestoneinstitute.org } ~ I have been very good friends with cigars for most of my adult life. It's time we broke up. Prior to the arrival of the COVID-19 public health crisis, I was always aware that smoking was not in my best interest or that of my family and friends... But the unique taste and aroma of a good cigar was my definition of well-earned success after a long, hard day of playing the cards of high stakes business. The constant drone of public service health warnings were meant for the other guys -- those who smoked cigarettes. Ironically, their habit began to fall out of public favor until a new generation took up with gusto the equally dangerous habit of vaping. Cigars, on the other hand, were meant to accompany fine brandy and good company. It turned out to be a dangerous fiction. No more. Cigars, and their cousins, it turns out, are pathways for COVID-19. They serve as a potential accelerant for an ambulance trip to a hospital's I.C.U. Doctors are being told there are a number of specific factors that can lead to COVID-19 taking lives. As of their last grim survey, they have found that underlying issues for nearly half of those who have died include existing lung disease, suppressed immune systems, age, or smoking, according to a private briefing on COVID-19 to emergency room physicians during an online conference. Dr. Stanton A. Glantz, a PhD and Director of the Center for Tobacco Control Research and Education at the University of California San Francisco, is far more direct in his warning. In an online essay, he asserts that "among Chinese patients diagnosed with COVID-19 associated pneumonia, the odds of disease progression including to death were 14 times higher among people with a history of smoking compared to those who did not smoke. This was the strongest risk factor among those examined." Dr. Glantz makes no apologies that his professional mission is to get people to stop smoking and vaping. But whether you agree with his data and methodology or not, the stark truth is, unlike the stealth-like assassin, cancer, COVID-19 is a career criminal that will strike quickly at any vulnerability to take its victim down...  https://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/15770/smoking-coronavirus

Tighten Up on Student Loans
images-2.jpeg
by Tom McLaughlin
{ tommclaughlin.blogspot.com } ~  Shortly before Elizabeth dinky/liar-Warren dropped out, a man confronted her about forgiving $1 trillion+ in student debt. “My daughter is getting out of school,” he said. I saved all my money. She doesn't have any student loans. Am I going to get any money back?”

“Of course not," dinky/liar-Warren said.

“So you're going to pay for people who didn't save any money, and those of us who did the right thing get screwed?” he said.

As The Washington Free Beacon reported it: “dinky/liar-Warren told the man her policy would not disadvantage him, but he described how he and his daughter sacrificed to avoid going into debt, while others spent money on cars and vacations. ‘My buddy had fun, bought a car, went on vacations. I saved my money," he said. "He made more than I did. But I worked a double shift, worked extra—my daughter worked since she was 10. So, you're laughing.’”

“No, I'm not,” dinky/liar-Warren said.

“Yeah, that's exactly what you're doing," he said. “We did the right thing, and we get screwed.”

I could identify with that guy and so could millions of other Americans — and not just fathers. Anyone who has struggled for years, decades even, to pay off student loans would be pissed at being forced to pay off other people’s student loans through higher taxes.

While I wasn’t among them, there are people who know exactly what they want to do after graduating from high school and they follow that career path for the rest of their lives. A week before classes started in September I enrolled in a community college that September but had no idea about what to major in, so I dubbed around liberal arts courses for a couple of years. State-subsidized tuition was very reasonable and I could pay all my expenses with a part-time job during school and working full-time over vacations and summers. Classes were easy and I did the minimum. With no particular goal other than maintaining a student deferment (the draft was still on), I dropped out after Nixon reduced American involvement in Vietnam enough that getting drafted became unlikely.
US-consumer-credit-student-loans-2018-Q1.png
After working various jobs for a couple of years I decided to become a teacher, so it was back to school for a couple of more years while continuing to work full-time. After obtaining a teaching position, I attended graduate school and paid for that myself as well by working additional jobs during summers. I never took out any loans and never got help from parents either. As a husband and father, I took out loans to help my children to go to college and they took out loans as well. Then my wife decided to go back to school and she took out loans. It took years to pay them all off.
unnamed.jpg
As an undergrad I rushed off after class to work the 2nd shift while many of my fellow students went partying. Some of them had prosperous parents. Others had taken out loans. I graduated with no debt, lots of work experience, and time-management skills. Too many of my fellow students just prolonged their adolescence four more years, and not a few took six or more years to finish because they partied so much. Should their student debts be forgiven? Certainly not.
Unknown.jpeg
Unless they’re in STEM majors, today’s students are indoctrinated by leftist instructors, graduate with negative views of capitalism, and are more likely to vote for socialist candidates according to polls cited by salon.com. They’re taught to believe old white guys like me are enemies of everyone else and responsible for virtually all of the world’s historical ills — especially any suffered by women and minorities. Some still work their way through as I did, but most do not. They’ve become over-reliant on government assistance in the form of grants and loans. Should their student debt be forgiven? Certainly not.
images-3.jpeg
They’ve also come to view college as a “right” just like “free” medical care. They think a lot of things should be free because they haven’t learned that nothing is free. They believe Senators Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren when they claim that all we have to do is raise taxes on “the rich” and on “Wall Street” and it will all be paid for. They’re not taught that “the rich” are not only paying their “fair share”; they’re paying the vast majority of all income taxes collected each year. Neither do they learn that 50% of Americans aren’t paying any at all. Not only do they pay nothing, they actually get checks in the form of Earned Income Tax Credits.
18155553_1507821662571993_855981149_n-1.png
Colleges charge more and more for teaching less and less to students who think themselves entitled. Grants and loans should be tied to performance by students in majors that guarantee employment after graduation. Those in majors like Art History, Women’s Studies, Gender Studies, and other dubious subjects should pay their own way.

Studies find potentially effective medicine
for coronavirus treatment and prevention
that's readily available
by AARON COLEN
{ theblaze.com } ~ Three separate medical studies have found a potentially effective treatment for the coronavirus that could also be useful in preventing infections in some cases... The coronavirus, known as COVID-19, is viewed as a particularly potent threat because there is currently no medical treatment and no preventative vaccine, so any hope of slowing down the spread and death rate could be significant. What's the treatment? Multiple studies showed that the use of chloroquine to treat the coronavirus can lead to faster recovery and shorter hospital stays for patients. Chloroquine is normally used as an anti-malarial drug, used for the prevention and/or treatment of malaria. It's available in the United States by prescription, and can be safely taken by men and women of all ages, including pregnant women. Doctors in China and South Korea have observed that the coronavirus patients treated with chloroquine show reduced fever and better lung CT images, and so far research has not found any negative effects of the treatment. From a study done in consultation with Stanford University School of Medicine, UAB School of Medicine, and the National Academy of Sciences: According to South Korean and China human treatment guidelines, chloroquine is effective in treating COVID-19. Given chloroquine's human safety profile and existence, it can be implemented today in the U.S., Europe and the rest of the world. Medical doctors may be reluctant to prescribe chloroquine to treat COVID-19 since it is not FDA approved for this use. The United States of America and other countries should immediately authorize and indemnify medical doctors for prescribing chloroquine to treat COVID-19. We must explore whether chloroquine can safely serve as a preventative measure prior to infection of COVID-19 to stop further spread of this highly contagious virus.   https://www.theblaze.com/news/studies-find-potentially-effective-medicine-for-coronavirus-treatment-and-prevention-thats-readily-available?utm_source=theblaze-dailyAM&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Daily-Newsletter__AM%202020-03-19&utm_term=TheBlaze%20Daily%20AM%20-%20last%20270%20days

{ thenewamerican.com } ~ Residents in six San Francisco Bay Area counties will be prohibited from leaving their homes for the next three weeks under a new shelter-in-place order aimed at curbing the spread of the coronavirus... The restrictions, which allow for some exceptions, have taken place in San Francisco, Marin, Santa Clara, San Mateo, Alameda, and Contra Costa counties, as well as the city of Berkeley. “Because of the risk of the rapid spread of the virus, and the need to protect all members of the community and the Bay Area region, especially including our members most vulnerable to the virus and also health care providers,” the order states, “this Order requires all individuals anywhere in San Francisco to shelter in place — that is, stay at home — except for certain essential activities and work to provide essential business and government services or perform essential public infrastructure construction, including housing.”  USA Today reported that the restrictions will remain in effect for the next three weeks, during which people in these counties will be restricted from all “non-essential travel “by “foot, bicycle, scooter, automobile, or public transit” outside their homes. Under the order, most businesses will be forced to close until April 7. “I know today's order is a radical step. It has to be. We need to act now, all of us, to protect the public health,” Fox News quoted said Dr. Grant Colfax, director of the San Francisco Department of Public Health. The website of the Santa Clara County Public Health Department explained details of the “shelter in place” order. It stated that the order “limits activity, travel and business functions to only the most essential needs.”...  https://www.thenewamerican.com/usnews/health-care/item/35171-s-f-bay-area-counties-impose-shelter-in-place-order-ny-gov-nixes-nyc-mayor-s-plan-to-do-the-same?ct=t(EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_12_2_2019_15_37_COPY_01)&mc_cid=046f1ad0b3&mc_eid=8ab66f2b22

{ insidesources.com } ~ For the present pandemic-induced economic crisis, the Federal Reserve is not enough... While the Federal Reserve can under “unusual and exigent circumstances” create emergency lending programs to help corporations unable to secure adequate credit accommodations from other banking institutions, this Fed power is not directly helpful if you are a cash-short citizen. The federal government in the form of the U.S. Treasury is the only institution capable of stepping in to help, and it can do it quickly and without blowing a hole in the federal budget if it takes a new, creative approach for using federal income tax refunds. There are soon to be thousands of workers in the restaurant, airline, hotel, sports venue and other hospitality industries who are furloughed for weeks if not longer. When these people stop spending, jobs losses will quickly mount in other industries. For most people, no work means no paycheck. With no paycheck, a payroll tax reduction will not put a single penny in your pocket. New federal government mandates that require employers to provide employees with new additional paid sick leave may appeal to you unless you are an employer already suffering from the crisis and these new expenses make your situation even worse. Employers did not cause the Covid-19 crisis. Congress could vote to send a check for thousands of dollars to millions of taxpayers as some have suggested, but this would add a substantial amount to the federal debt when the U.S. debt-to-GDP ratio is nearing levels not seen since World War II. It is in everyone’s interest to take the measures necessary to stop the spread on the coronavirus, and everyone should share the costs necessary to ensure this happens. One way to quickly alleviate the economic fallout from the coronavirus crisis without increasing the budget deficit is to send all tax-filing households a pre-paid tax refund immediately. The pre-paid refund should be identical for every tax-filing household. The magnitude can be fine-tuned, but for arguments sake, call it $5,000 — an amount roughly equal to twice the average tax refund in 2018...

{ realclearpolicy.com } ~ Congress is considering sending cash to all American households to help them handle the economic fallout of the coronavirus pandemic... But this will disproportionately benefit high and fixed-income households at the expense of low-income workers who remain the most economically vulnerable. Fortunately, there is a simple and efficient way for Congress to distribute aid to these workers and limit the long-term consequences of the current crisis: Pass an emergency earned income tax credit (EITC) that can be distributed to low-income households within weeks. First created in 1975, the EITC today it is one of the largest income support programs for low-income working families. The amount of the EITC benefit is equal to a percentage of annual earnings and given to families in a lump-sum cash payment around tax time. It is determined by the number of children living in the household. Working households with incomes up to $50,000 per year can be eligible to receive this benefit. In 2019, the average EITC was $2,476 per qualifying household. An emergency EITC supplement is a simple way to help low-income families overcome the immediate economic challenges presented by the COVID-19 response. Low-income workers likely cannot telework and many will face uncompensated work disruptions due to decreased consumer demand or caretaking responsibilities. An EITC supplement will offer them the needed flexibility to care for children during school closures or to attend medical appointments for loved ones who might be sick without worrying about lost pay. It will also supplement their earnings if they are needed for fewer hours in the restaurants, retail stores, and home health businesses they work for. The unemployment insurance and paid leave provisions currently being considered by Congress will address some of the needs of low-income workers, but gaps remain in coverage and duration of benefits. The UI provisions only address the needs of workers who lose their job, and the paid leave benefits only offer support to those who are sick or caring for a child or ill family member. An emergency EITC will fill the gaps left by current proposals and offer security to low-income families, without the cost implications of sending cash to everyone...

{ foxnews.com } ~ An American man who has been detained by Iran since 2018 and is serving a 13-year sentence was released on medical furlough Thursday... Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has announced. Michael White's release on humanitarian grounds was conditioned upon him staying in Iran. He is now in the custody of the Swiss embassy where he will undergo a medical evaluation. "The United States will continue to work for Michael’s full release as well as the release of all wrongfully detained Americans in Iran," Pompeo said in a statement. White, the first American known to be detained in Iran since President Trump took office, is accused of insulting Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and posting a photo on his social media. White’s family has said he traveled to Iran to visit his girlfriend — the two met online — and was arbitrarily detained. He previously served in the Navy for 13 years.   https://www.foxnews.com/world/american-michael-white-held-in-iran-since-2018-released-on-medical-furlough

{ foxnews.com } ~ A New Hampshire man who beaten and tortured after being detained during a family vacation in Lebanon six months ago was finally released from prison on Thursday... Amer Fakhoury, a naturalized U.S. citizen, was arrested in his native Lebanon during a family trip in September. Fakhoury, who formerly fought in the South Lebanon Army during Israel’s occupation of the country, was taken into custody after a Hezbollah-backed newspaper accused him of torturing Hezbollah and Palestinian terrorists in the ‘80s and ‘90s, a charge which his family and attorney deny and he was never previously been accused of. Fakhoury’s release comes after Sens. Jeanne Shaheen, D-N.H., and Ted Cruz, R-Texas proposed bipartisan sanctions against senior Lebanese officials  involved in his unlawful detention and the State Department pushed for his release. In a statement announcing his release, Shaheen said that anytime a U.S. citizen is wrongfully detained by a foreign government, "we must use every tool at our disposal to free them." "I’m very glad that Amer is finally coming home and will be reunited with his family," Shaheen said. "No family should have to go through what the Fakhoury family has gone through. His health is in critical condition and now it is vitally important that he receives proper treatment to get on the road to recovery."...   https://www.foxnews.com/us/american-detained-in-lebanon-released-after-6-months

New York Times Admits 1619 Error

Lewis Morris  Reading a meaningful editorial correction from The New York Times seems a bit like seeing Halley’s Comet; it happens once in a lifetime. Yet, last week, the stalwart Leftmedia rag stepped up and admitted it may have gone too far regarding the premise of its controversial 1619 Project.

You may recall our earlier reporting on this destructive rewriting of American history. The 1619 Project was an attempt to recast the American Revolution and the founding of our nation as based on the desire to protect and perpetuate the institution of slavery. It was written mostly by leftist journalists, with a few (anti-)American historians sprinkled in for good measure.

After it was released in August 2019 to coincide with the 400th anniversary of the first arrival of slaves in the New World, the 1619 Project was torn apart by legitimate historians for its complete lack of factual reporting and its blatantly agenda-driven view of American history. But respected scholars like Pulitzer Prize-winning journalists James McPherson and Gordon Wood, who were not even consulted on this project, didn’t make a dent with the “righteous” New York Times.

In true leftist fashion, the Times doubled down, insisting that this was a new attempt at historical understanding — that history was not fixed. Comrade Lenin would be proud.

The major issue of concern was that the 1619 Project had bigger plans that included pushing this dreck into our public schools to indoctrinate our children into believing that America was founded on, and still believes in, slavery. Thousands of schools across the country have accepted the 1619 Project as real history, teaching an entire generation of Americans that their country is racist.

The good news is that the continued pushback against the 1619 Project has made an impact, however small. The New York Times issued a correction of the leading article of this farce, written by Nikole Hannah-Jones. Her screed assumed that “all” of the American colonists were drawn to the revolution to protect slavery. The Times now says that only “some” of the colonists were motivated by it.

Not exactly a mea culpa or a complete retraction, but that will never happen. The Times has too much invested in this multimedia project to give up now. But this is an incremental fight. And the truth has just recorded a victory.

This correction demonstrates that the revisionists know their work is complete manure meant to feed an agenda that denigrates the United States. If they admit the premise of their so-called project is not genuine, then what else within that project can still be trusted to be true?

By Marisa Schultz
{ foxnews.com } ~ President Trump on Wednesday signed the second  coronavirus relief bill into law that provides paid sick leave, unemployment help and free testing to Americans... the White House announced. The Senate passed the legislation in a 90-8 vote earlier Wednesday. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., had criticized the legislation negotiated by House Speaker liar-Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin as having "real shortcomings", but urged his members to "gag and vote for it anyway" to show  bipartisan cooperation during the global pandemic. "This is a time for urgent bipartisan action, and in this case, I do not believe we should let perfection be the enemy of something that will help even a subset of workers," McConnell said Wednesday morning in announcing he'd vote for the House legislation. Two senators were absent – Sen. Cory Gardner, R-Colo., and Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla. — because of self-quarantining after exposure to people who tested positive for coronavirus. The eight senators voting no were all Republicans: Sens. Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee, James Inhofe of Oklahoma, Ron Johnson of Wisconsin, James Lankford of Oklahoma, Mike Lee of Utah, Rand Paul of Kentucky, Ben Sasse of Nebraska and Tim Scott of South Carolina.Critics said the mandate on small businesses to provide paid sick leave to workers was too much of a hardship when businesses are short on cash and can't wait for a federal tax credit reimbursement. “Small businesses in my state are closed,” Lankford said after the vote. “…Many small businesses are really struggling with how they're going to pay for this when they have no income coming in right now. They are hearing the promise of a federal reimbursement coming to them, but they don't know when that's coming and they're literally teetering on the edge right now. And they're saying: 'Please don't do something that pushes us over the edge.'” The legislation provides 14 days of paid sick days to workers affected by the coronavirus, ensures free testing to everyone, including the uninsured, and expands food aid and boosts unemployment dollars to states...   https://www.foxnews.com/politics/senate-passes-houses-coronavirus-response-bill-sends-to-trump

{ foxnews.com } ~ The price of a gallon of gasoline has hit 99 cents at a station in Kentucky...  GasBuddy analyst Patrick De Haan was tipped off by users of the GasBuddy app that the Spur 7 BP in on state route 25 in London had dropped below a buck. Don't head there looking for a deal right now, though, because an employee at the station told Fox News Autos that the price was already 99 cents on Wednesday and that they're currently sold out of fuel and didn't know when the pumps would be open again. Commenters on Gas Buddy say the station is known for its low prices and is often very busy. De Haan earlier this week predicted that the nationwide average, currently $2.20, could soon drop to $1.49 and that 99 cents would be a reality at some locations. A combination of increased supply in Saudi Arabia and Russia with falling demand from efforts to stop the spread of the coronavirus are driving the trend. But Kentucky, where the statewide average is $1.90, isn’t the only state with a station selling fuel for a rock bottom price. Oklahoma, Mississippi, Tennessee and Kansas all have at least one station with a price under $1.30.

{ jpost.com } ~  Testing for coronavirus is a data gathering tool and not a means to treat the disease, Magen David Adom medical director Refael Strugo stressed on Wednesday... the day after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu informed the public that he planned to dramatically increase coronavirus screenings. For most of the last month, Israel has tested around 750 people per day. In recent days, that number has increased to a little more than 1,000 and even 2,000, according to Health Ministry Director General Moshe Bar Siman Tov.  During a briefing on Tuesday, Netanyahu committed to increasing the number of tests to between 3,000 and 5,000 per day, which he claimed would be the highest number of tests taken per day / per capita by any country.  South Korea tests around 15,000 people per day and has a population around five times larger than Israel’s. The prime minister’s comments came only minutes after Defense Minister Naftali Bennett told the public in an interview on Channel 13 that his aim was to test 30,000 people per day, and minutes before the Health Ministry’s head of public health Sigal Sadetsky explained that whereas screening is important data gathering, isolation is what will control the spread of the coronavirus. “Sadetsky said that the way you stop the spread of the disease is isolation,” Strugo told The Jerusalem Post. “The number of tests you do can give you an idea of how much the disease has spread throughout the community and can tell you if we are reaching the peak, reaching the plateau, starting to get to the point of crisis.” He said it will also help identify hot spots of the disease...   https://www.jpost.com/HEALTH-SCIENCE/Whats-the-story-with-coronavirus-testing-621485?utm_source=ActiveCampaign&utm_medium=email&utm_content=Israel+and+Iran+agree%3A+The+struggle+against+coronavirus+is+a+war+effort&utm_campaign=March+18+night

{ breitbart.com } ~ A report from a German newspaper claiming that President Donald Trump wanted to secure exclusive American access to a coronavirus vaccine has proven to be false... but only after the story was repeated and spread by mainstream media outlets including Reuters, The Guardian, and Business Insider. Reuters later stealth-edited its story to incorporate official statements denying the original newspaper report. But a New York Times journalist had already shared the Reuters article before it was altered. An MSNBC producer also shared the story. The German newspaper Welt am Sonntag published a story Sunday claiming that White House officials had offered about $1 billion to the German biopharmaceutical firm CureVac to move to the U.S. and to make a coronavirus vaccine for the U.S. only. The company has indicated that it hopes to have a vaccine by June or July. The newspaper cited an anonymous source in the German government claiming to “confirm” that President Trump wanted the vaccine “only for the United States,” then covered reactions from German politicians, who declared “no country should have a monopoly on any future vaccine,” according to the summary from reporters Paul Carrel and Andreas Rinke. But the story quickly fell apart. CureVac issued a statement on Twitter denying that it received an offer from the U.S. government. “CureVac rejects all allegations from press,” the firm said...   https://www.breitbart.com/the-media/2020/03/16/reuters-stealth-edits-debunked-story-claiming-trump-sought-monopoly-on-covid-19-vaccine/

Rating agencies and bookies paint
darkening picture for Trump
by Rob Crilly
{ washingtonexaminer.com } ~ The spiraling economic and social consequences of the novel  coronavirus pandemic have put a major dent in President Trump’s chance of reelection... according to bookmakers and forecasters. Trump has staked much of his campaign on a booming economy and a soaring stock market. But White House officials are bracing for bad economic news as airlines cancel flights, restaurants and bars close, and millions of people work from home. Dire stock market numbers suggest Trump is in danger of losing the 2020 election, according to Moody’s Analytics, a Wall Street research firm that runs a forecasting model. Last month, it predicted that the president would secure 351 Electoral College votes to his Democratic challenger’s 187. But since then, plunging markets have turned the tables against Trump, who is now forecast to lose the key battlegrounds of Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin, leaving him with 259 votes to 279 for a Democrat, according to the model. Moody’s Analytics economist Bernard Yaros said: “Until now, Trump is generally favored to win because until now, the economy was doing well, was steady at least, and his approval rating rose after impeachment. But things have changed.” The two key factors in the model are Trump’s approval rating and the strength of the S&P 500 stock index. At 47%, his Gallup rating is in relatively healthy territory, but the drop in the S&P 500 from more than 3,400 to 2,454 points is a problem, said Yaros...   https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/rating-agencies-and-bookies-paint-darkening-picture-for-trump

Democrats Still Won’t Approve Trump’s
Payroll Tax Cut, Despite Coronavirus Spread
by rightwingamericans.com ~ For all the talk from the Democrats about how the president isn’t doing enough to stop the coronavirus outbreak causing major disruptions to the economy... they don’t seem all that willing to help him pass measures that would help American businesses and workers. President Trump recently announced his proposal of eliminating payroll tax until the end of the year, giving workers and businesses financial relief while the coronavirus impacts the economy. It is part of a wider stimulus package being developed by the White House to help ease the burden on businesses, but the Democrats just won’t pass it. If you want to get money into the hands of people quickly & efficiently, let them have the full money that they earned, APPROVE A PAYROLL TAX CUT until the end of the year, December 31. Then you are doing something that is really meaningful. Only that will make a big difference! — Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) March 13, 2020. “If you want to get money into the hands of people quickly & efficiently, let them have the full money that they earned, APPROVE A PAYROLL TAX CUT until the end of the year, December 31,” the president tweeted on Friday. The president even used a recent Oval Office address to the nation to call on the Democrats to pass the proposal but to no avail. Trump criticized the Chair of the Federal Reserve, Jay Powell, as well as the Democrats. In another Friday tweet, he said, “The Federal Reserve must FINALLY lower the Fed Rate to something comparable to their competitor Central Banks.”...   https://rightwingamericans.com/2020/03/17/democrats-still-wont-approve-trumps-payroll-tax-cut-despite-coronavirus-spread/

Nate Jackson  So, thanks to coronavirus, you’re stuck at home, trying to work while also managing kids who are out of school. What do you do?

To help everyone stay calm and sane, as well as simply to offer some good perspective amidst the craziness, here are a few things to consider doing.

Perhaps most importantly, check up on friends and family. Use social media for good. Maybe even use that portable computer you’re holding to call loved ones (radical, we know). Make sure that neighbors have what they need. Offer help when you can, especially for seniors who may not be able to venture out to the store for needed supplies. During a period of “social distancing,” we humans are still geared to need community (yes, even you introverts). If you or someone you know is alone, pay special attention to them.

Go outside. Well, as long as it’s not pouring down rain, as it is this morning at our remote headquarters. Cabin fever is real and everyone needs some fresh air — especially kids. Eventually the skies will clear up, right?

Read books. Been too busy with kids’ sports or other public obligations to pick up that book you started on January 1? Settle back down and read it.

Further your education. There are all sorts of online learning opportunities that you can use to continue learning. Teach your kids basic life skills — like deep cleaning. Never stop learning or sharing knowledge.

If all else fails, there’s always Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Hulu, Disney+, etc. With theaters around the country shutting down, NBCUniversal just announced it will release its current theatrical features on demand at home. Other studios, including Disney, will follow suit.

Here’s one you probably didn’t think of, courtesy of Ben Shapiro: “Buy a gift card. Small businesses are getting crushed right now. Many have been shut by local governments, and even the ones that haven’t are being destroyed by Americans following protocol and staying away from crowds. This means that if you have disposable income, you should seriously consider buying a gift card from a local business and using it later — or shopping online from them. It’s essentially an advance for businesses that could certainly use the hand right now.”

As a final and more personal note, if you’re like the staff here in our humble shop, life is incredibly busy even outside our hectic deadlines. Our jobs and deadlines don’t change even if we are working remotely. But as other parts of life slow down, we’re taking time to give thanks to our Creator for the blessings we may have been too busy to notice. We hope you’ll do the same and that you’ll fill the time wisely.

{ theconservativetreehouse.com } ~ This is a big sector hit to the U.S. economy. All of the major U.S. auto manufacturers have agreed to shut down all production facilities, through March 30th... in the latest thunder-shock to the economy. Ford Motor Co., General Motors and Fiat-Chrysler will close their plants due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. Ford said in a statement Wednesday that its U.S., Canadian and Mexican manufacturing facilities will be halted after Thursday evening’s shifts through March 30 to “thoroughly clean and sanitize the company’s plants.” “UAW and Ford leaders will work together in the coming weeks on plant restart plans as well as exploring additional protocols and procedures for helping prevent the spread of the virus,” reads the statement from Ford. General Motors also released a statement explaining the shutdown will be until at least March 30. “GM and the UAW have always put the health and safety of the people entering GM plants first, and we have agreed to a systematic, orderly suspension of production to aid in fighting COVID-19/coronavirus,” said GM Chairman and CEO Mary Barra...  https://theconservativetreehouse.com/2020/03/18/u-s-auto-industry-shuts-down-amid-coronavirus-struggle/

{ theconservativetreehouse.com } ~ The entire nation is being impacted by a multitude of consequences from coronavirus; millions of Americans concerned about lost work, lost wages and possibly lost jobs... the largest economy in the world at a near standstill; trillions of wealth lost and rippling economic consequences yet to be properly quantified;…. and yet the White House press pool is worried about calling COVID-19 the “Chinese coronavirus”? Amid all of the seemingly unending and insufferable nonsense from American journalists, this is, yet again, reaching an all time high of stupidity.   https://theconservativetreehouse.com/2020/03/18/the-media-disconnect-white-house-press-pool-focused-on-political-correctness-while-million-of-americans-suffer-economic-impacts/

{ apnews.com } ~ Israeli opposition leader Benny Gantz will be given the first opportunity to form a new government after an inconclusive national election this month, the country’s president said Sunday... raising questions about Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s political future. The decision by President Reuven Rivlin was announced by his office after he consulted with leaders of all of the parties elected to parliament. He will formally designate Gantz with the task on Monday and give him a month to cobble together a governing coalition. The political wrangling comes at a sensitive time. Netanyahu has been leading the country as it confronts a growing coronavirus threat, with over 200 cases diagnosed and the number quickly rising. Netanyahu also faces serious legal troubles as he prepares to go on trial to face corruption charges. Netanyahu’s Likud emerged as the largest party in the March 2 election, Israel’s third in under a year. But with his smaller religious and nationalist allies, he received the support of only 58 lawmakers during Sunday’s consultations, leaving his right-wing bloc three seats short of the required majority in parliament. Gantz’s Blue and White received the support of parties representing 61 seats, a slim majority. However, those parties are also divided, and it is not clear whether Gantz will succeed in putting together a coalition. One lawmaker refused to endorse either side. Given the likelihood of continued deadlock, Rivlin late Sunday summoned both Netanyahu and Gantz to an emergency meeting, where the men pledged to explore a unity government. In a joint statement, both parties thanked Rivlin and said their leaders “agreed for the respective negotiation teams to meet soon.” Rivlin had earlier called for a power-sharing unity government to lead the country through its many crises. Israel has gone through three inconclusive elections in the past year, leaving it with a caretaker government as it confronts a host of challenges, including the coronavirus battle. If the two rivals cannot reach a unity deal, the country could find itself in a fourth consecutive election campaign. “Anyone who has watched the news in recent days understands that this is a time of trial, and that these are not regular consultations,” Rivlin said earlier Sunday. “We must now deal with forming a government as soon as possible ... at this complex time...  https://apnews.com/63f367ec108720d910b436d2ff1e45c7

{ foxnews.com } ~ President Trump on Wednesday announced that he is invoking the Defense Production Act as part of the administration’s efforts to tackle the coronavirus pandemic... "It can do a lot of good things if we need it," he said at a White House press conference. "We'll have it all completed, signing it in just a little while." The act ensures the private sector can ramp-up manufacturing and distribution of emergency medical supplies and equipment. The move gives the White House the authority to increase production of masks, ventilators and respirators, as well as expand hospital capacity to combat the coronavirus. He made the announcement at a press conference along members of the coronavirus pandemic task force. The U.S. has largely shuttered many aspects of daily life in order to stem the rapid onset of the virus, echoing efforts across the globe. As of Wednesday morning, there were 6,519 cases and 114 deaths in the United States. On Wednesday, Trump also announced that the Housing Department is suspending all foreclosures and evictions until the end of April. Earlier in the day he had announced that the U.S. and Canada had agreed to temporarily close their shared border to non-essential traffic. Vice President Mike Pence, who is leading the taskforce, announced that Health and Human Services are suspending a regulation that prevents medical professionals from practicing medicine across state lines. He also called on the nation to postpone all elective medical procedures. Asking if he saw the nation on a wartime footing he said he did and described himself as "essentally a wartime president."...  https://www.foxnews.com/politics/trump-announces-he-is-invoking-defense-production-act-to-fight-coronavirus

{ foxnews.com } ~ President Trump on Wednesday announced that the U.S. and Canada are temporarily closing their shared border to non-essential traffic as part of the effort to tackle the coronavirus pandemic... "We will be, by mutual consent, temporarily closing our Northern Border with Canada to non-essential traffic," Trump tweeted. "Trade will not be affected. Details to follow!" As of Wednesday morning, there were 6,519 cases and 114 deaths in the United States. Canada, meanwhile, has recorded 598 cases of coronavirus and has so far had eight fatalities nationwide. The move comes as countries across the globe shut down their borders in order to combat the virus that has brought daily life to a standstill. Trump on Saturday added the U.K. and Ireland to a 30-day European travel ban, while Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Monday previously had closed Canada's borders to all foreign nationals except U.S. citizens and permanent residents. Trudeau said the exemption for Americans at the time was due to “the level of integration of our two economies." Canada relies on the U.S. for 75 percent of its exports. Much of Canada’s food supply comes from or via the U.S., and 98 percent of its oil exports go to the U.S. About 18 percent of American exports go to Canada. Trudeau is currently in self-quarantine after his wife Sophie tested positive for the virus. Future plans for the southern U.S. border remain in development. Fox News learned Tuesday that the Department of Homeland Security is considering a plan that would turn away asylum seekers and anyone who has crossed the  southern border illegally. The idea is currently being developed by DHS staff, but there is still more work to do before it's presented to Trump for a final decision. “President Trump is 100 percent committed to protecting the American people from coronavirus and all options are in the table," a DHS spokesperson told Fox News.

Turkish Government Responsible for Torture, Arbitrary Killings, and Disappearances
by Aykan Erdemir & Philip Kowalski
{ fdd.org } ~ In its annual human rights report, released on March 11, the State Department documents egregious violations by the Turkish government, including arbitrary killings, suspicious deaths of persons in custody, forced disappearances, and torture... Along with similar findings in last year’s report, the latest assessment shows that systematic violations of human rights continue with impunity under President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The Turkish Foreign Ministry dismissed  the new report, which covers the 2019 calendar year, as a “politically motivated” product of “unfounded accusations based on ambiguous sources.” Ankara similarly dismissed  the findings of last year’s report as “unfounded allegations, dubious information and biased interpretations.” The abuses committed under Erdogan highlight the enormous gulf between Turkey’s constitutional provisions for the protection of human rights and the grim reality on the ground. Although Article 17 of the Turkish Constitution  bans torture, the State Department found that in May 2019 alone, as many as 100 persons – including former members of the Turkish Foreign Ministry – were tortured or otherwise mistreated while in police custody. According to the  testimonies of victims interviewed by the Ankara Bar Association, “authorities blindfolded them and made them kneel, dragged them across a room, hit them on the head and body with a baton, and threatened that unless they ‘talked,’ batons would be inserted into their rectums.” The report also shows that the backsliding in Turkey’s democracy and human rights continues to affect Kurdish citizens disproportionally. Since the abortive 2016 coup that led Erdogan to declare a state of emergency, at least 4,920 members of the pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) have been imprisoned on baseless charges related to terrorism and political speech, including former HDP co-chair and former presidential candidate Selahattin Demirtas, seven lawmakers, and 48 mayors. Ankara lifted the state of emergency in 2018, but Ankara continues to persecute pro-Kurdish politicians. As of December 2019, the Interior Ministry has suspended 28 HDP mayors in Kurdish-majority provinces, replacing them with government-appointed “trustees.” The Turkish government’s reliance on arbitrary detention, show trials, and pretrial detention as a form of summary punishment continues to draw criticism at home and abroad. Since 2016, the Turkish government has detained 540,000 persons suspected of involvement in the coup, with 30,000 convicted and 70,000 currently awaiting trial. These politicized detentions and prosecutions constitute a de facto purge of Erdogan’s political opponents, both real and imagined. In response to growing criticism of this breakdown in the rule of law and due process, the Turkish government introduced a Judicial Reform Strategy last May and passed judicial reform legislation in October. The International Commission of Jurists declared  the measures to be insufficient, warning that “any judicial reform will be meaningless if implemented in the context of a judiciary which has been taken control of by the executive,” alluding to Erdogan’s iron grip on Turkey’s courts. During remarks previewing the State Department’s new report, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo named China, Cuba, Iran, and Venezuela as among the worst violators but chose not to highlight Turkey’s abuses. This represents a missed opportunity to raise awareness about how a NATO member state’s persistent abuses are undermining the shared values on which the alliance rests. Washington should condemn Ankara for its egregious human rights violations and start issuing Global Magnitsky sanctions against the architects and perpetrators of arbitrary killings, forced disappearances, or systematic torture in Turkey.

Thomas Gallatin  As the coronavirus pandemic continues to spread, it has become evident that the virus holds the most danger for the elderly and those with underlying health conditions. In light of this, President Donald Trump’s COVID-19 task force yesterday called on Millennials in particular, those least likely to suffer significant negative health effects from the virus, to do their part in helping to stop its spreading. Speaking at a press conference, White House coronavirus task-force coordinator Dr. Deborah Birx called Millennials the “core group that will stop the virus.” She added, “They are the group that communicates successfully independent of picking up a phone. They intuitively know how to contact each [other] without being in a large social gatherings.”

Millennials are the largest generation and the ones most likely to be out and about. Thus, Birx asserted, they are the ones most likely to spread COVID-19. Birx then admonished them: “We’re protecting the Greatest Generation right now, and the children of the Greatest Generation. And [Millennials] need to communicate with each other.”

Also on Monday, Trump released a set of new guidelines for Americans to follow titled “15 Days to Slow the Spread.” The guidelines encourage avoiding gatherings larger than 10 people, as well as staying away from “eating or drinking in restaurants, bars and food courts,” opting instead for “drive through, pickup and delivery options.” Trump noted, “If everyone makes … these critical changes and sacrifices now, we will rally together as one nation and we will defeat the virus.”

Sen. rino-Mitt Romney (R-UT) called for the government to give every American adult $1,000 in an effort to mitigate the growing financial squeeze brought about by the pandemic. He’s the first Republican to propose something akin to former Democrat presidential candidate Andrew Yang’s “Universal Basic Income.” If the goal is to ensure Americans have more money during the COVID-19 crisis, however, a better idea would be enacting what Trump has called for — a temporary payroll-tax cut. That’s not great either, but there are no good options before us.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck scumbag-Schumer on Monday proposed a $750 billion plan that “would boost hospital capacity, expand unemployment insurance, increase Medicaid funding, provide aid to small businesses, and grant immediate forbearance on federal loan payments,” as reported by National Review. “We will need big, bold, urgent federal action to deal with this crisis,” scumbag-Schumer argued. The White House, meanwhile, pitched an $850 billion “stimulus” package.

Unfortunately, it’s almost always the case that politicians use crisis to expand the government’s role in everyone’s lives. Still, Washington politicos aren’t wrong about COVID-19 exacting a serious economic toll across the country. Especially hard hit have been restaurant workers, as Americans have heeded warnings and stayed home. We won’t know for months what the real economic cost will be.   ~The Patriot Post

{ americanthinker.com } ~ If one didn’t know better, he could think that China unleashed the Wuhan virus upon the world purposely to get their man, loose lips liar-Joe Biden, elected president. Jumblin’ loose lips liar-Joe is their man, too... It’s not just that the disease will assuredly cause economic distress as people’s lives and commerce are disrupted; it’s not just that no matter what President Trump does, the EneMedia will portray his response to the disease as lacking. Never mind that Barack scumbag/liar-Obama apparently spread disease throughout our nation by shipping sick illegal-alien minors throughout the country. Enterovirus D68, anyone? It’s also that the Wuhan virus has now become a handy excuse to limit debates and Jumblin loose lips liar-Joe’s personal appearances. Health is the concern, you see Biden’s mental health, that is. Heck, House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn (D-S.C.) even suggested that his party “shut” down the rest of the primaries and debates. The idea is to coronate Jumblin’ before his brain completely shuts down. But don’t think it’s a stretch to say that, lucid or senile, loose lips liar-Biden is for certain the Manchurian virus candidate. There’s a reason why Forbes wrote last summer that “loose lips liar-Joe Biden Is The Only Man Who Can Save China In 2020” and why the “announcement of his campaign alone was enough to encourage Beijing suddenly to take a harder line on trade negotiations with the Trump administration,” as Senator Tom Cotton recently wrote at National Review. It’s that unlike “many other Democrats, he takes its side, reliably,” writes Cotton. Certain other Democrats take China’s side only unreliably. For example, as senior Democrat on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee in the ‘90s, loose lips liar-Biden made sure China got most-favored-nation trade status and World Trade Organization membership the latter in 2001. “Wherever a brake might have been applied — by placing human-rights or labor conditions on most-favored-nation status, for example — loose lips liar-Biden voted the measures down and lobbied other senators for Beijing,” Cotton informs. “Unfortunately, China and loose lips liar-Biden got their way, and American workers are still suffering from it.” While we should have withered Beijing on the vine instead of creating a monster thanks, Richard Nixon, loose lips liar-Biden compounded earlier mistakes and continued feeding the dragon. In fact, even as China’s fascist regime yes — with its market reforms, it’s as “communist” as commie-Bernie is capitalist grew in power and Xi Jinping strengthened his dictatorial hold, loose lips liar-Biden continued lobbying for increased trade and more intimate ties. Just consider that while standing next to Xi in 2012, loose lips liar-Biden rationalized that competition from China was good for us. Yet millions “of American jobs were disappearing as he spoke,” Cotton reminds us, “and the militarization of the South China Sea was just around the corner.” What’s for sure is that, call it “competition” or collusion, the relationship was very good for the loose lips liar-Biden family. Oh, and if you’re guessing that there’s a Hunter in this story, go to the head of the class...

{ /thebulwark.com  } ~ After listening to politicians—particularly those on the left—relentlessly vilify biopharmaceuticals companies, it was a welcome contrast to see President Trump at the White House last week recognizing the private sector as a critical... invaluable partner in our national efforts to combat COVID-19. I’ve long championed  the essential role of industry in driving promising, but preliminary, science into transformational medicines. Writing over a decade ago with the late Dr. Tom Stossel, we called out the coterie of reliably reflexive critics we termed the pharmascolds—a group whose numbers, and influence, have dramatically expanded in the ensuing years. Today, most correct-thinking academics—not to mention nearly every politician from the dink/liar-Warren-ish side of the spectrum—dutifully critique the biopharmaceutical industry as greedy and craven. This is happening even as more and more of the most talented faculty members decamp for the private sector sometimes startups, other times, established companies. Why? Because they want to participate more directly in the pragmatic implementation of exciting science. In addition to my own career in and around biopharma R&D, I’ve recently been afforded an unusually personal look into the role of industry in the COVID-19 pandemic. My wife, also a physician-scientist, is a senior executive at Gilead and has been working relentlessly to evaluate whether  remdesivir, an anti-viral therapy the company originally developed for Ebola—it wasn’t especially effective—might prove more useful against the novel coronavirus responsible for COVID-19. While anecdotal data, as widely reported, may be encouraging, robust clinical trials are required, and my wife and her colleagues are working literally day and night in order to deliver a clear answer. While Gilead’s medicine may be closest to the clinical applicability, they are hardly alone: Companies across the industry are racing to develop and evaluate potential treatments, often as part of consortia with academics, which is a win-win proposition. Meanwhile, other companies are working on potential vaccines: The innovative biotech Moderna seems to be out in front, reportedly using a proprietary artificial intelligence-based approach to select the part of the virus that will most effectively goose our immune system. The first subject in the first Moderna clinical trial was just dosed on Monday...  http://thebulwark.com/pharma-as-partner-not-punching-bag-2/?mkt_tok=eyJpIjoiTnpBME9EQTRaRE0zWlRsaCIsInQiOiI4V3NESVgrRnFHbnlzTlBRM3J0cjJ3R3ZteWt6VG5lb09GTTFZOVJHNlhZdVRMQ0JXMDE3ZHdvRzhvQ1E1eEtQSXJEVEtWa2k3bDRoU1wvUHNNY1hkVGFHWk51TEFtdno0ems5d3dVV1JGM2tuS2pQNjNOMnJ3ZkVkazFHY05aNCsifQ%3D%3D

{ gatestoneinstitute.org } ~ Italy's healthcare system is in a state of almost total collapse. As of today, 31,506 people in Italy have been infected with the coronavirus; of which 2,503 people have died. The numbers continue to grow... Hospitals are overwhelmed. Doctors have to choose which sick person to save and which sick person not to save. The country has almost completely shut down. Many businesses are running in slow motion or have stopped. Prisoners are staging uprisings. Millions of people have been ordered to stay home and are allowed out only briefly to buy food. Most shops are shut. All public gatherings are prohibited, even funerals. Big cities look like ghost towns. No other Western country has been so severely affected by the pandemic as Italy. Why? First, Italy has an aging population. The median age of Italians is 47.3 years; one in four Italians is over 65. In addition, the country's birth rate is extremely low: 1.29 children per woman. Even before the coronavirus pandemic, Italy was a dying country. Sadly, the virus has accelerated the process. Second, the authorities and medical personnel apparently underestimated the danger. Although the Italian government had suspended flights for days from China and Hong Kong from January 31, Italian doctors were saying that the illness was just a "bad flu". On March 9, an epidemiologist, Silvia Stringhini, wrote: "The media are reassuring, the politicians are reassuring, while there's little to be reassured of". Third, the Italian health system is in appallingly bad condition. There are not enough intensive care units and, as everywhere, the possibility of a major crisis simply was not anticipated. In Italy there are 2.62 acute-care hospital beds per 1,000 residents by comparison, the number in Germany is 6.06 per 1,000 residents. The Italian health system is entirely run by the government. A public health care service SSN, Servizio Sanitario Nazionale pays the doctors directly, limits their number, and sets the maximum number of patients they can treat per year (1,500). Government-run healthcare always ends up being about the government trying to cut its costs rather than to help its citizens. Private clinics do exist, but represent only a small part of the care offered the public system represents 77% of total health-care spending. The only country in Europe where the figure is higher is the United Kingdom, where the figure is 79%. Public hospitals must manage shortages, and when an exceptional situation occurs, rationing  care leads to horrific choices. A recent report by Siaarti (Società Italiana di Anestesia Analgesia Rianimazione e Terapia Intensiva) bureaucratically offers "ethical recommendations for admission and intensive treatment in exceptional conditions of imbalance" and speaks of "consensual criteria of distributive justice" to justify not  treating certain patients and leaving them to die...   https://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/15752/coronavirus-comes-for-europe

Pentagon Preparing Navy Hospital Ships Mercy, Comfort for Coronavirus Response

{ news.usni.org } ~ The Pentagon is starting the process of activating Navy hospital ships USNS Mercy (T-AH-19) and USNS Comfort (T-AH-20) as part of the Defense Department’s domestic response to the spreading COVID-19 virus... USNI News has learned. “We’ve already given orders to the Navy… to lean forward in terms of getting them ready to deploy,” Secretary of Defense Mark Esper told reporters on Tuesday. The ships will now begin the several days-long process of bringing aboard medical staff and equipment ahead of deploying along the East and West coasts, a defense official confirmed to USNI News on Tuesday afternoon. Two sources told USNI News that the idea was for the ships to provide relief for coastal hospital systems, with the ships taking on non-COVID-19 cases and allowing the hospitals to focus on the most critical patients suffering from the virus. The Pentagon also has extensive equipment for erecting field hospitals in addition to the hospital ships, but those facilities are optimized for trauma cases, with several beds close together, and not for infectious patients. “So one of the ways you could use field hospitals, hospital ships or things in between is to take the pressure off of civilian hospitals when it comes to trauma cases, to open up civilian hospital rooms for infectious diseases,” Esper said. On Monday, Joint Staff surgeon Air Force Brig. Gen. Paul Friedrichs gave more details on how the ships could support civilian hospitals. “If, for example, a community has a large outbreak and there’s a need for emergency room support or trauma support, a hospital ship is perfectly designed to do that,” Friedrichs told Politico on Monday. “It’s hard to get the hospital ship to St. Louis, but along the coasts, it is an option to use.”...  https://news.usni.org/2020/03/17/pentagon-preparing-navy-hospital-ships-mercy-comfort-for-coronavirus-response?utm_source=USNI+News&utm_campaign=05e9c47c74-USNI_NEWS_DAILY&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_0dd4a1450b-05e9c47c74-231491269&mc_cid=05e9c47c74&mc_eid=3999f18767

{ gatestoneinstitute.org } ~ The US has more prisoners than any Western democracy. Because of our overly long sentences — even for non-violent first offenders — many are old and infirm... We also have many presumptively innocent defendants in jail awaiting trial, and many others awaiting appeal. It is inevitable that there will be outbreaks of coronavirus in prisons and jails, as, in the past, there have been outbreaks of other contagious illnesses such as Legionnaires disease. Other institutions of confinement, such as nursing homes, have also experienced quickly spreading contagions. Once an outbreak occurs, the options will be limited. It is unlikely that contagious inmates would be released; they would probably be quarantined in the prison, which may mean solitary confinement. Nor will there be sufficient medical staff and equipment to treat them. In the event of an outbreak, guards and other staff are likely to refuse to come to work, thus raising the risk of violence among prisoners. The time to act, in order to prevent these bad outcomes, is before there are outbreaks. A prison sentence, or the denial of bail, are not supposed to be sentences of death or disease. Steps should be taken now to reduce the risks not only to prisoners but to those who come in contact with them in prison or upon release. Among these preventive steps should be the following: allowing elderly non-violent prisoners who are near the end of their sentences to be sent home; those who still have considerable time to serve should be temporarily furloughed to home confinement, subject to increased punishment if they violate the strict conditions of the furlough; pre-trial and pre-appeal defendants should be allowed to remain at home unless they pose a threat of violence; imprisonment of sentenced non-violent defendants should be deferred from month to month as we monitor the spread of the virus; summonses should replace arrests in most non-violent cases; fines and other non-custodial punishments should be more widely imposed as long as custody poses life threatening risks; other creative amelioratives should be considered. It is generally not a good idea to emulate the actions of Iran, but it is interesting to note that the repressive Islamic regime has reportedly released approximately 80,000 prisoners most of whom probably should never have been imprisoned in the first place. Not known for their compassion, the mullahs probably made this decision as a public heath measure calculated to slow down the spread of the coronavirus, which has plagued Iran...   https://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/15753/coronavirus-prisoners

Elite Survive the 'Boomer Flu'?

{ americanthinker.com } ~ We depend on experts for advice. We always have. This is understandable given our inability to effectively process and disseminate all the information that bombards us... Our minds are not supercomputers with software that sift and rank information in nanoseconds. We cannot psychically communicate our discoveries with the rest of the hive. Instead, we develop a system of experts that focus their efforts on different topics and tell us what they learn through various institutions, such as the media, the church, or the office water cooler. But what happens when our experts fail? The public health community’s response to COVID-19, aka the “Boomer Flu,” provides a cautionary example. Many have noted COVID’s terrible effectiveness in killing the elderly and infirm. However, what are the responses of our public policy experts? Quarantines, testing, and other proscriptions of minimal effectiveness and mass inconvenience. For example, the focus on testing is farcical. Granted, testing information is useful, particularly in developing programs for the next pandemic. However, what’s the benefit from testing for treatment of the pandemic? If I have a cold, my doctor tells me to self-quarantine. If I have the flu, my doctor tells me to self-quarantine. If I have any contagious disease, my doctor tells me to self-quarantine. Whether I have a confirmed or suspected case of the Boomer Flu, my doctor will tell me to self-quarantine. Healthcare professionals can still record information about suspected COVID-19 cases. When tests become available, the suspected cases can return for testing or someone could visit the suspect and conduct the tests. The focus on testing is a waste of time, and wasted time is something we can’t afford. Another example is our method of quarantining. In the U.S., a volunteer self-quarantine (“VSQ”) appears the method of choice. Yet, a VSQ is largely ineffective. Imagine a low-income parent who must work. Sick or not, this person will work. And, what type of jobs do these parents typically have? My guesses are janitors, warehouse workers, cashiers, or any low-paying job that involves close contact with the public. Financially distressed people with jobs serving the public suggest VSQs are a recipe for disaster. Yet, VSQs remain a cornerstone of our response.  The above examples indicate the public health elite are largely clueless on what to do. Instead of instituting helpful policies, they’ve opted for the ol’ roust ‘em strategy. This strategy was once popular with law enforcement. For example, there’s an uptick in crime, so the police installed roadblocks, roust the poor and implemented responses that created the impression that the police were doing something. Of course, these policies looked good on TV, caused mass inconvenience, and were minimally effective. Our public-health experts have adopted such a response to COVID-19: lots of doctors on TV suggesting ineffective policies and often shifted the blame or the public’s attention to nonsensical issues, like the lack of testing supplies. The blame shifting and misdirection are designed to hide the public heath elite’s incompetence in developing strategies that make a difference. I know it is easy to complain. Any fool can quickly list the problems of the world. So, let this non-credentialed, occasionally employed deadbeat from Baltimore provide some suggestions. These proposals are based on the World Health Organization’s website, as well as the Italian experience. The reports indicate that COVID-19 deaths are primarily confined to those over 60 or people with underlying medical conditions. My modest proposals include: (1) Seal nursing homes, hospices, retirement communities and intensive care units (“ICUs”) by limiting access. Like the British, install field hospitals nearby. The field hospitals would only accept COVID-19 cases. Apart from freeing up hospital beds, this allows medical professionals to treat only those most at risk. In addition, create disinfecting areas for staff, where sterilized uniforms are provided. Also, ban everyone not a resident or staff, including families of the sick. Outside vendors would wear sterilized gear to limit exposing residents to COVID-19. Beyond the sealed area, the facility could create a non-contact visiting area with windowed partitions, and end-of-life rooms where families could say their last goodbye to loved ones...

U.S. Retaliates After Iran Picks a Fight

Thomas Gallatin  The U.S. military launched an airstrike against five Iranian-backed militia sites in northern Iraq late last week, killing an estimated three to four dozen militia members. The strike was in response to a rocket attack against U.S. and coalition forces earlier in the week that killed three soldiers, including two Americans and one British, and wounded over a dozen more. Following the U.S. strike Defense Secretary Mark Esper stated, “The United States will not tolerate attacks against our people, our interests, or our allies. As we have demonstrated in recent months, we will take any action necessary to protect our forces in Iraq and the region.” He also noted, “You don’t get to shoot at our bases and kill and wound Americans and get away with it.”

It appears clear that Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has not backed off his proxy-war efforts against the U.S. in Iraq and Syria even after the U.S. took out his top terrorist, Gen. Qasem Soleimani. In fact, he seems to be escalating matters.

As Tom Rogan at Washington Examiner notes, “Iran’s escalation also takes another form. Iran is now more resolute in expanding its nuclear program. Again, Iran knows that doing so risks Israeli or U.S. military action. But Khamenei has evidently decided to roll the dice in a last-ditch effort to blackmail America into sanctions relief. The supreme leader’s escalation-reflex is likely exacerbated in an Iranian interest point of view by the Saudi decision this week to boost its oil export scale and send oil prices plummeting. U.S. sanctions have annihilated Iran’s oil economy, so what little Tehran is still able to export is critical to the regime’s finances.”

To top it off, Iran is struggling with the coronavirus outbreak. It’s the typical mindset of tyrannical regimes: The people don’t matter, only the leader’s agenda.   ~The Patriot Post

by rightwing.org ~ Partisan problems appeared in the House of Representatives last Thursday, as lawmakers haggled over the latest and most ambitious anti-coronavirus bill making its way through the legislature... Democrats, led by House Speaker liar-Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), introduced an emergency bill last Wednesday in response to the coronavirus outbreak. While there’s bipartisan support for more help to the American people and the US economy, the administration says Dems are grabbing an opportunity to push spending items they’ve had on their wish list for a long time. The Dems proposed bill was mostly centered on a huge expansion of welfare spending and government handouts. liar-Pelosi proposed an ambitious and expensive program of paid sick leave. The baseline would be a law requiring all employers to give up to seven days of paid leave, plus an extra 14 days when a public health emergency has been declared – like now. The government would cover the cost of this for businesses with under 50 employees. Their part of the bill also proposed a new federal paid leave program under the Social Security Administration (SSA). This would pay out to anyone who had to take 14 or more days off work because of COVID-19. It covers up to two-thirds of monthly earnings with a maximum of $4,000 for three months. Republicans are against this as it will take too long to implement and take valuable resources from the SSA. What both agree on is that more money would go to food banks, meal delivery programs and extending food stamps to a lot more families.  The proposed bill would also provide free coronavirus testing to everyone, even if they’re not insured. Medicare, Medicaid and private insurers would be forced to pay for the tests. In addition, Republicans wanted to bring in measures that will let people help themselves and give the economy a boost. A key goal was to cut payroll taxes to zero, giving both workers and businesses more money to spend.  President Trump appealed Thursday night for bipartisan support to get a combined version of the bill through, even with some of its imperfections. In the end, that’s just what he got. The bill passed easily on Friday with 363 representatives in favor and 40 voting against it. The final bill is a compromise, no payroll tax cut and no SSA program in sight. However, what is left is a plan to offer free COVID-19 testing, expand Medicare and food stamp programs and mandate companies to offer paid sick days and family leave for anyone affected by the coronavirus. Companies with over 500 employees would be exempt from this requirement. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) said Tuesday that the bill would likely pass in the Senate “as-is,” knowing that more spending bills are coming before this crisis is over. It seems the Dems are finally acting like the adults by working together with their fellow GOP legislators to put the American people first.  https://www.rightwing.org/whats-in-the-house-spending-plan/?utm_source=rw-aw-cf&utm_placement=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=newsletter&utm_content=RWnewsletter

by americanactionnews.com ~ Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is prepared to end the impasse on Capitol Hill. However, his solution leaves much to be desired for many congressional Republicans... “A number of my members think there were considerable shortcomings in the House bill. My counsel to them it is to gag and vote for it anyway,” McConnell said Tuesday after lunching with his fellow Republicans. The Senate will take up the House bill beginning Tuesday and then move immediately to crafting bigger legislation to stimulate the economy that will need 60 votes to pass the upper chamber. McConnell said the Senate won’t recess until another bill is passed. “We’re going to move here in warp speed for the Senate, which almost never does anything quickly,” McConnell said. McConnell reiterated that the Senate is committed to helping all 320 million Americans get through this pandemic as easily as possible.  https://americanactionnews.com/politics/mcconnell-tells-republicans-to-gag-and-vote-for-house-coronavirus-bill/

{ foxnews.com } ~ Spain’s health officials reported Sunday the country’s death toll from the coronavirus took a dramatic jump in just one day--more than doubling from 136 a day before to 288... The alarming news came as daily life increasingly grounds to a halt across Europe and beyond, amid efforts to combat the spread of the fast-moving virus. Spain’s Health Ministry said there have been 7,753 infections, up from 5,700 on Saturday, with around half of them concentrated in the capital of Madrid. Virus deaths surged in Spain a day after the government declared a state of emergency and took extraordinary measures to limit movement to commuting to work and necessary errands. The Spanish government has also closed restaurants, bars, most retail shops, and reduced public transport. In Austria, Chancellor Sebastian Kurz announced plans to limit people’s movements nationwide, shortly after the country’s Tyrol province followed Italy and Spain in barring residents from leaving their homes except for essential errands or work. With new infections dwindling in Asia, Europe has become the main front line of the fight against COVID-19. The virus has infected 152,000 people and killed more than 5,700. Kurz ordered Austrians to leave their homes “only alone or with the people who live in their apartment.” Austria has 800 infections. Italy, the worst-hit European country with more than 21,000 infections and 1,400 deaths, ratcheted its nearly week-old lockdown even tighter. The transport ministry banned passengers from taking ferries to the island of Sardinia and banned overnight train trips — which many in the north had been taking to reach homes and families in the south. Overwhelmed hospitals struggled to cope with the sick. “It’s not a wave. It’s a tsunami,” said Dr. Roberto Rona, in charge of intensive care at the Monza hospital...

{ jpost.com } ~ The government rolled out a new set of restrictions on the Israeli population Tuesday as the number of coronavirus patients increased to 337 at press time... and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu promised there would be a dramatic increase in the number of sick people detected, tests taken and hospital equipment available to serve the infected. “We started today using the digital technology that detects those who come in contact with coronavirus patients,” Netanyahu said in a press briefing. “We will send these people into isolation. These will be large numbers. Isolation is not a recommendation - it is mandatory, and we will enforce it without compromise." He likewise committed to “dramatically” increasing the number of people tested for coronavirus to the largest number per capita in the world. Netanyahu said that he expects between 3,000 and 5,000 tests to be taken per day, comparing Israel to South Korea. That country tests around 15,000 people per day and has a population around five times larger than Israel’s. The prime minister also noted that hospitals are upgrading to be able to handle more sick patients, including that the country has purchased 1,000 additional ventilators to treat those who fall victim to the virus, which can lead to acute respiratory distress syndrome or pneumonia. “I am happy to report that, as of now, not a single Israeli has died,” Netanyahu said, “but sadly this will not be the situation going forward. "I ask for discipline and responsibility,” he continued. “All of these steps will not help if there is no discipline and responsibility on your part. I can sadly say that there are many of you that still don’t understand the level of danger we are facing. This is not children’s play. This is a matter of life or death. “Love is keeping your distance,” he concluded. The bottom line of these new restrictions: Israelis are not allowed to leave their homes unless "absolutely necessary." "Do not leave your home," said Health Ministry director general Moshe Bar Siman Tov in a video message to the public. "Only go to work... or to purchase essential items, such as groceries, medicine or the like." Visiting parks, beaches, pools, libraries and museums is now prohibited as are all social interactions, which the ministry said should be conducted on the phone or by other digital means. Group sports and workout classes are also all cancelled effective immediately...

{ washingtonexaminer.com } ~ A journalist was denied entry into the White House Coronavirus Task Force news briefing Saturday after developing a fever... Reporters had their body temperatures taken by staff at the White House as a precaution against the coronavirus. One person was tested three times by the White House Medical Unit over a 15-minute period, and each time, the result registered above the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's guideline of what constitutes a fever, 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit, according to Katie Miller, who is a press secretary to Vice President Mike Pence. Fever is one of the symptoms of the coronavirus. NBC News's Kelly O'Donnell said in a tweet that the journalist who was turned away appeared to be from China Global Television Network. The checks began on Saturday. "Out of an abundance of caution, temperature checks are now being performed on any individuals who are in close contact with the president and vice president," White House spokesman Judd Deere said.   https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/fever-stricken-reporter-barred-from-white-house-coronavirus-briefing

loose lips liar-Biden Won't Bring Decency or Unity

Harold Hutchison  One of the things loose lips liar-Joe Biden is running on is a return to “decency.” For many Americans seemingly exhausted by the state of constant political fighting (or nonviolent civil war, if you believe Dennis Prager), it seems to be nice to get back to a place of decency and national unity. There is just one problem.

loose lips liar-Joe Biden is not the man who can bring unity. That’s largely because, when it comes to decency, he is very deficient. The media might tell you one thing, but there is plenty of evidence that loosew lips liar-Biden’s lack of decency not only exists but will make unity impossible.

For one thing, the deep divisions on multiple issues that drive the present state of contentious disunity have existed for a long time and have been growing toxic for a long time.

For instance, take gun control.

The fact is, far too many of the solutions proposed by the Democrats running for president involved punishing millions of law-abiding Americans for crimes and acts of madness they did not commit. Parkland, Sandy Hook, Aurora, Sutherland Springs, Las Vegas — all were cited as the justification for massive infringements on the Second Amendment.

On their own, and in conjunction with pro-Second Amendment groups like the National Rifle Association, millions of Patriots objected to that injustice. They made those objections stick through successful grassroots action. Yet that grassroots action against injustice (writing lawmakers, educating their fellow Americans, and even working to defeat anti-Second Amendment officials through the electoral process) has been labeled  “domestic terrorism” by none other than New York’s attorney general.

socialist-Beto O'Rourke once promised, “Hell yes, we’re going to take your AR-15.” loose lips liar-Joe Biden just hired socialist-Beto’s campaign manager as his own, and he plans to hire socialist-Beto as his “gun-control czar.”

It’s kind of hard to unify a country after stuff like that. It becomes doubly hard when, after that rhetoric, abusive investigations are launched with the intent of silencing certain voices. But yeah, media pundits, tell us again how it’s Second Amendment supporters who are the problem.

loose lips liar-Biden is no stranger to vilification of opponents. There is, of course, the moment he falsely claimed rino-Mitt Romney would put African Americans “back in chains.” It was a vicious slander — saying slavery would come back. But at the time, it looked as if rino-Romney had a chance to beat Barack scumbag/liar-nObama — and he did come within a few hundred thousand votes of flipping that election into an Electoral College win like Donald Trump pulled off four years later.

loose lips liar-Biden also was proud of the grotesque defeat of Robert Bork’s Supreme Court nomination in 1987 and sought to use it to launch his 1988 presidential campaign. Bork’s reputation over a long career of public service? Small price to pay for loose lips liar-Biden’s ambition. Karma struck when loose lips liar-Biden was caught plagiarizing speeches the next year, but that karma didn’t put Bork on the Supreme Court. Nor did that karma halt the vitriolic path we are on today. loose lips liar-Biden’s horrific treatment of Bork became the template for how Democrats treat Republican judicial nominees. Ask Brett Kavanaugh.

But the lack of decency also extends to inaction. Remember when John Lewis smeared rino-John McCain as a racist in 2008? loose lips liar-Biden was silent … and even seemed like he had discarded the friendship. While maybe that smear wasn’t decisive, loose lips liar-Biden said nothing — and even today proclaims his friendship with rino-McCain as he runs for president for the third time.

We’ll leave it to you to judge if his treatment of riho-McCain is that of a true friend. But the actions and inactions in politics probably aren’t the most relevant or dispositive when it comes to loose lips liar-Biden’s lack of decency. Let’s look at how he mistreated someone who was utterly powerless to resist him: Curtis C. Dunn.

In 1972, loose lips liar-Biden’s first wife and daughter were killed in an accident involving a tractor trailer. Anyone who has lost a family member to such an accident can comprehend the pain involved. But loose lips liar-Biden proceeded to falsely paint Dunn as a drunk driver. He reportedly apologized, but what kind of person — in a position of power and influence, no less — would unleash such a dishonest smear in the first place?

And all of this is to say nothing about loose lips liar-Biden’s angry outbursts against voters on the campaign trail. Among other episodes, he’s called a woman a “lying, dog-faced pony soldier” (whatever that means) and nearly picked a fistfight with a guy over banning the “AR-14.”

If America is to somehow bridge the Red-Blue divide that seems likely to tear it apart, it will need leaders who are, when it comes down to it, decent people. loose lips liar-Joe Biden’s actions over the years show he is lacking in that department — and he’s getting worse. To think he can bring about unity with a proven lack of decency is blind partisan foolishness.   ~The Patriot Post
