The West Needs to Wake Up to China's Duplicity

Back then... coronavirus was already spreading throughout China and over the world; the Communist Party's attempt to hide the epidemic proved that Pompeo was more than right. "My concern is that this cover-up, this disinformation that the Chinese Communist Party is engaged in, is still denying the world the information it needs so that we can prevent further cases or something like this from recurring again", Pompeo added this week. Had China responded to the outbreak three weeks earlier than it did, cases of coronavirus could have been reduced by 95%, according to a study by the University of Southampton. In those three weeks, China was busy hiding the truth. According to Steve Tsang, director of the University of London's SOAS China Institute, "It is the cover-up of the Communist Party for the first two months or so which created conditions to generate a global pandemic". Chinese leaders, however, seemed obsessed only with the sustainability of their totalitarian regime, and as eager to silence any criticism as they have been in the past. Since January, the evidence of China's deliberate cover-up of the coronavirus in Wuhan has become a matter of public record. The Chinese government censored and detained brave doctors and whistleblowers who attempted to sound the alarm. One of China's richest entrepreneurs, Jack Ma, recently disclosed that China hid at least one-third of the coronavirus cases. China has been able to grow into a superpower because it adopted economic practices from the West. No other country ever achieved such rapid economic and social progress for such a sustained period of time. However, hopes placed by the West in the Chinese market also nourished a dangerous mirage. We in the West thought that a modernizing China with a rising GDP would also democratize and come to respect transparency, pluralism and human rights. Instead, the mirage turned into a disaster as we watched China become even more of a "totalitarian state". The nature of the Chinese regime -- its ban on the free press and all critical voices; the absolute domination of the Communist Party over social, spiritual and economic actors; imprisoning minorities and crushing freedom of conscience -- is also contributing to the emergence of this public health disaster. The cost, in terms of human lives and world's GDP, is immense. The Chinese government's complicity in the pandemic is now an opportunity for the West to reevaluate its ties to Beijing. He said Navarro will serve as the national Defense Production Act coordinator for the federal government. Also during the press conference, Trump pushed back against Democratic governors – like Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and Washington Gov. Jay Inslee -- who have criticized the federal response to the coronavirus pandemic. “I want them to be appreciative," Trump said. And he defended his decision to travel to Norfolk, Va., on Saturday to send off a Navy hospital ship headed to the New York City harbor to help hospitals in the country’s largest city deal with the crush of patients impacted by the coronavirus pandemic. A reporter pressed him on whether it was wise to travel as his administration encourages people to stay home to avoid spreading the virus. “I'm not going to be jumping around in a huddle,” Trump said, adding he’s going because he has “spirit for this country.” Earlier Friday, Trump said he had directed Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar to require General Motors to begin making ventilators under the Defense Production Act to combat the coronavirus pandemic after negotiations with the automaker stalled. "Our negotiations with GM regarding its ability to supply ventilators have been productive, but out fight against the virus is too great to allow the give-and-take of the contracting process to continue to run its normal course," Trump said in a statement, adding: "GM was wasting time." Experts say the U.S. is hundreds of thousands of breathing machines short of what it likely will need to treat a rapidly rising number of COVID-19 patients. That the bill finally passed doesn’t excuse her reckless gamesmanship... Republican and Democratic Senate leaders were close to an agreement when liar-Pelosi parked her partisan broomstick and poured poison into the congressional punchbowl. “Talking to some Senate GOP sources,” Townhall political editor Guy Benson tweeted. “They seem stunned and angry. I’m told there was lots of bipartisan input into the legislative outline & emerging specifics — including an agreement in principle on broad strokes. Then liar-Pelosi showed up and threw a partisan grenade.” Sources said the Democratic leadership moved to exploit the crisis by attaching its socialist wish list to the bill. Manhattan Institute senior fellow Brian Riedl, a conservative known more for his scholarship than partisanship, had strong words. “The Senate Democrats just engaged in one of the most cynical displays of partisanship I have ever seen in the U.S. Senate,” said Riedl. “They let liar-Pelosi blow up a bipartisan agreement.” Keep in mind that Republicans and Democrats had already hammered out an imperfect deal before liar-Pelosi’s last-minute shenanigans. Republicans had already reluctantly agreed to certain repulsive provisions to ensure prompt relief for suffering people and the free-falling economy. Conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt also expressed uncharacteristic disgust. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell “jammed his own caucus to pass @liar-SpeakerPelosi bill because he knows we are in a catastrophe and action needed,” Hewitt tweeted. “If businesses founder, they cannot be resurrected from ashes. Vote by @SenateDems most outrageous obstructionism I’ve ever seen and @senatemajldr anger is righteous.” Following liar-Pelosi’s and Sen. Chuck scumbag-Schumer’s lead, congressional Democrats degenerated to class warfare to justify their obstruction, calling the bill a corporate bailout and slush fund that would not protect workers. But that was just cover for loading the bill with partisan perks that wouldn’t alleviate problems caused by the virus....

With the words “Coronavirus Impeachment Scam” on the screen next to her, Regan told viewers, “We've reached a tipping point. The chorus of hate being leveled at the president is nearing a crescendo as Democrats blame him and only him for a virus that originated halfway around the world. This is yet another attempt to impeach the president.” “Many in the liberal media using, and I mean using, coronavirus in an attempt to demonize and destroy the president,” she added. Following what amounted to a suspension, Regan tried to pass off her situation as part of larger safety measures at Fox, tweeting, “FBN has taken prudent steps to limit staffing levels and is prioritizing its coverage during market hours. Federal Prisons Do Poor Job of Monitoring
Terrorist Inmates’ Communications, Audit Finds

{ thenewamerican.com } ~ Federal prisons have “significant deficiencies” when it comes to identifying terrorist inmates and monitoring their communications with each other and the outside world... a recent audit reveals. According to the audit conducted by the Department of Justice’s Office of the Inspector General (OIG), as of 2018, there were “approximately 512” inmates in federal prisons “with a known nexus to international or domestic terrorism.” The Bureau of Prisons (BOP), however, had failed to identify 28 of those inmates as terrorists, mostly because of poor communication between government agencies. BOP officials told OIG “they have often had to rely on media coverage or an internet search in an attempt to identify the individual’s ties to terrorism.” The BOP is supposed to monitor all social communications of high-risk inmates, but it often fails to do so. This has been a problem for years. In 2006, OIG found that “the BOP had not effectively monitored the postage mail or verbal communications … of terrorists,” and though the BOP promised to improve, it clearly didn’t. If anything, by expanding inmates’ communications options to include e-mail and video calls, it made matters worse. “Based on the sheer volume of emails and BOP staffing levels, several BOP staff members told us that meeting both requirements of mandatory monitoring of high-risk inmates and random monitoring of general population inmates is just not possible,” wrote OIG. As a result, BOP employees often multitask in an effort to meet their monitoring targets. At one facility, auditors “observed a staff member listening to inmates’ phone calls while a television was loudly playing the news and they were processing BOP staff through a security checkpoint.” It wouldn’t be difficult for inmates to slip something past these distracted employees. Indeed, OIG notes that inmates have discovered many ways to circumvent the BOP’s communications controls. The prison system’s e-mail system is, in theory, supposed to enable BOP employees to monitor all e-mail communications in which inmates engage, yet OIG found over 7,000 e-mails to or from high-risk inmates that had not been monitored, some of which contained content that should have caused them to be flagged for review. GainPeace’s Whitewashing of Jihad

{ jihadwatch.org } ~ Muslim writers who are apologists for jihad seem to be motivated to accomplish two goals. The good and laudable goal is that of dissuading those Muslims who are inclined to use violence for the sake of Islam, Allah, and Muhammad, his Prophet... The second, less commendable goal, is to whitewash the image of Islam in a public relations ploy that tries to make it appear that violence done in the name of Islam has no justification from within the teachings of Islam. We applaud the first goal, but this second effort is disingenuous and deluding. Somewhat analogous to the Christian idea of Just War theory, the Islamic doctrine of jihad places rules, regulations and restrictions on the use of violence. And as was often the case in Christendom, those rules were ignored in the heat of battle. So often, in the context of battle, the restrictions against indiscriminate violence in jihad often fall apart, and the grossest barbarism breaks out. But let us evaluate whether Islamic doctrine as found in the Qur’an and the example of Muhammad, his closest companions, and followers are, in fact, the basis for the justification of violence done by some Muslims around the world today. In this short article, I examine some passages of the Qur’an that are viewed as sacred divine revelation by all traditional Muslims, and that are used as justification for violence by jihadi Muslims. Jihadis identify their acts of violence as being truly motivated by these passages, which include 109 verses of the Qur’an. Their use of these passages is meant to demonstrate their religious bona fides to other Muslims. Since there are many Quranic passages calling for Muslims to use violence for the sake of Islam, their god and Muhammad, Muslims who are trying to mitigate the negative impact of such passages, for either of the above two mentioned purposes, often stridently assert that jihadis who use the Qur’an to justify violence are taking those passages out of context. In most cases, this context argument is fallacious. First, literary context is not of primary importance in interpreting the Qur’an; instead, Muslim exegetes use what is called the reasons for revelations (asbab an -nazul). Those are ostensibly the historical circumstances in the life of Muhammad that caused Allah to send down the relevant passages of the Qur’an to the his prophet. In a strict sense, no Muslim community in any society faces exactly the circumstances that Muhammad and the first Muslims did. So in order to follow the example of Muhammad and the earliest Muslims, Muslims today extrapolate from something they see as analogous in the circumstances of the Prophet and his earliest followers, and then apply that example to present circumstances. This is an almost infinitely flexible process, and one that all violent jihadis use to justify their violent actions against others. In this sense, the propaganda of GainPeace, an Islamic non-profit organization based in the Chicago area that works on converting people to Islam, is duplicitous. We will look at two of its premises. GainPeace states, “Muslims may not begin hostilities. Something on the Left doesn’t smell right. The Democrats have just waved their hands in the faces of Americans vehemently. They have proclaimed that they couldn’t care less about the American people, preferring their Big Government agenda. What’s it going to take for Americans to realize the Left has left “We the People” out of the equation?
Chuck scumbag-Schumer and liar-Nancy Pelosi pushed the following (and many more) demands after blocking the bipartisan stimulus bill amid “pandemic-fueled” economic collapse:
1) Unprecedented collective bargaining powers for unions
2) Increased fuel emissions standards for airlines
3) Expansion of wind and solar tax credits
The Democrats strike again! What do these things have to do with the stimulus bill for Americans? House Majority Whip Rep. scumbag-James Clyburn (D-SC) reportedly told Democrats on a conference call last week that the party should exploit the coronavirus stimulus: “This is a tremendous opportunity to restructure things to fit our vision.”
What? “Our vision”? So, forget about the millions of Americans who are suffering financially through this frenzy. The one person that spoke to the outright tomfoolery of this blockage of $1.7 trillion dollar stimulus bill was Texas Sen. Ted Cruz. He spoke to the conditions of “We the People”:
I am no stranger to robust political and policy disagreements. But we are in the midst of a global pandemic. People are dying. People are suffering. [Sunday] night when the Senate voted on whether to move forward with emergency relief legislation for the millions of people being devastated by the economic disaster we’re seeing as a result of the coronavirus epidemic, every single Democrat in this body voted to block consideration of this bill. Now for those of you at home who are not pouring over a Senate procedural matter, what does it mean to vote to block consideration? It doesn’t mean they voted against the bill. It means they voted against even starting to take it up.
The New York Times headline moments afterwards said, “Democrats block $1.7 trillion stimulus bill.” Of course that headline had the fault of being accurate and so within minutes the New York Times changed it to “Democrats block $1.7 trillion stimulus bill, citing worker concerns.” That was headline number two. But then apparently the partisan leanings in the New York Times were too strong for that, and so they revised it a third time to say, “Partisan division halts discussion of the bill.”
No, it wasn’t a partisan division. It was one party — the Democratic Party — saying to this chamber and the American people, “Hell no. We won’t even take this up and discuss it.” At a time of crisis, at a time when people are dying, that’s wrong. That’s shameful.“
Something ain’t white in the milk, and Senator Cruz spoke on behalf of "We the People!” Thank you Senator Cruz for your passionate speech to light a fire under the American people. We will remember in November! In the meantime, prepare for the worst and expect the best.

This finding could aid in helping large swaths of people over an extended period of time once a specific cure is found. The study, which was produced by two independent teams in the country, used "a new next-generation sequencing (NGS) research assay" from Thermo Fisher Scientific on Italian COVID-19 patients. The experts then compared them to a sample from the original outbreak to come up with their findings. "Had we investigated other viruses we might have expected up to dozens of new mutations after so many infectious cycles in patients," professor Stefano Menzo, head of Virology at Ancona University Hospital, said in a statement. "Our initial data show that this is a very stable RNA virus, with only five novel variants. A virus with a stable genome is good news for vaccine development because it indicates that the effectiveness of vaccines could be more consistent, possibly over many years."Dr. Maria Rosaria Capobianchi, head of the Virology Department, Lazzaro Spallanzani National Institute for Infectious Diseases, said the ability to run quick, multiple samples is important in the scientific community's fight to stay ahead of the virus. However, Capobianchi cautioned, "viral genomes are dynamic and these preliminary data need further analysis to determine the biological significance of the gene variants and to investigate the evolutionary path of the coronavirus." The researchers will further analyze the data with Thermo Fisher's new Ion SARS-CoV-2 analysis solution to better understand the virus and analyze the entire genome. Scientists are looking at a number of different ways to cure the novel coronavirus, which has affected more than 428,000 people around the globe, including at least 55,000 in the U.S. Researchers in France detailed how a combination of antimalarial medication and antibiotics could be a vital weapon against COVID-19, Fox News previously reported. New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced on Tuesday the state will start coronavirus drug trials, as the hard-hit state recently acquired 70,000 doses of hydroxychloroquine, 10,000 doses of zithromax and 750,000 doses of chloroquine. The boy, now blind after his parents gave him toxic methanol in the mistaken belief it protects against the virus, is just one of hundreds of victims of an epidemic inside the pandemic now gripping Iran. Iranian media report nearly 300 people have been killed and more than 1,000 sickened so far by ingesting methanol across the Islamic Republic, where drinking alcohol is banned and where those who do rely on bootleggers. An Iranian doctor helping the country’s Health Ministry told The Associated Press on Friday the problem was even greater, giving a death toll of around 480 with 2,850 people sickened. The poisonings come as fake remedies spread across social media in Iran, where people remain deeply suspicious of the government after it downplayed the crisis for days before it overwhelmed the country. “Other countries have only one problem, which is the new coronavirus pandemic. But we are fighting on two fronts here,” said Dr. Hossein Hassanian, an adviser to Iran’s Health Ministry who gave the higher figures to the AP. “We have to both cure the people with alcohol poisoning and also fight the coronavirus.” For most people, the new coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough that clear up in two to three weeks. For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia, or death. The pandemic has swept across the world, overwhelming hospitals, crippling economies and forcing governments to restrict the movements of billions of people. Particularly hard hit has been Iran, home to 80 million people. As of now, there is no known cure for COVID-19, the illness caused by the virus. Scientists and doctors continue to study the virus and search for effective medicines and a vaccine. { washingtonpost.com } ~ The coronavirus is not mutating significantly as it circulates through the human population, according to scientists who are closely studying the novel pathogen’s genetic code... That relative stability suggests the virus is less likely to become more or less dangerous as it spreads, and represents encouraging news for researchers hoping to create a long-lasting vaccine. All viruses evolve over time, accumulating mutations as they replicate imperfectly inside a host’s cells in tremendous numbers and then spread through a population, with some of those mutations persisting through natural selection. The new coronavirus has proofreading machinery, however, and that reduces the “error rate” and the pace of mutation. It looks pretty much the same everywhere it has appeared, the scientists say, and there is no evidence that some strains are deadlier than others. SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes the disease covid-19, is similar to coronaviruses that circulate naturally in bats. It jumped into the human species last year in Wuhan, China, probably through an intermediate species — possibly a pangolin, an endangered anteater whose scales are trafficked for traditional medicine. Scientists now are studying more than 1,000 different samples of the virus, Peter Thielen, a molecular geneticist at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory who has been studying the virus, told The Washington Post. There are only about four to 10 genetic differences between the strains that have infected people in the United States and the original virus that spread in Wuhan, he said. “That’s a relatively small number of mutations for having passed through a large number of people,” Thielen said. “At this point, the mutation rate of the virus would suggest that the vaccine developed for SARS-CoV-2 would be a single vaccine, rather than a new vaccine every year like the flu vaccine.” It would be more like the measles or chickenpox vaccines, he said — something that would likely confer immunity for a long time. “I would expect a vaccine for coronavirus would have a similar profile to those vaccines. It’s great news,” Thielen said. Several vaccines against covid-19 are in development, but experts estimate it will be at least a year to 18 months before one becomes available. Poison Policy: An Unfair Housing Regulation Leftover From the scumbag/liar-nObama Era Creates Unnecessary Chaos

Hans von SpakovskyThe Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is making a very big mistake. It’s trying to modify an onerous scumbag/liar-nObama-era regulation that would take over local zoning instead of just getting rid of the regulation in its entirety. But it is not too late for HUD to reverse course, and President Donald Trump should ensure that it does.
The effort to reverse this HUD regulation demonstrates that Trump’s true legacy may not depend so much on the high-profile battles that seize the spotlight. No, his long-term impact may very well be measured by his success in ridding us of burdensome federal rules, regulations, and bureaucratic overreach that intrude into our daily lives, stunt the growth of our economy, limit entrepreneurship, and encroach on the power of state and local governments.
Unfortunately, the Trump administration has chosen to roll back only some of the worst aspects of the 2015 mandate, rather than eliminate the program altogether. HUD, led by Ben Carson, should reconsider. Timidity will not help the president drain the federal swamp that threatens to engulf local towns and suburbs all over the country and turn HUD into the national zoning authority.
AFFH is bad. As Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) wrote when scumbag/liar-nObama first issued it, “this new regulation is designed to give unelected, anonymous bureaucrats in Washington the power to pick and choose who your new next-door neighbor will be. If they don’t believe your neighborhood is ‘diverse’ enough, they will seize control of local zoning decisions — choosing what should be built, where, and who should pay for it — in order to make your neighborhood look more like they want it to.”
Stanley Kurtz of the Ethics and Public Policy Center correctly summarized AFFH. It gives the federal government “a lever to re-engineer nearly every American neighborhood — imposing a preferred racial and ethnic composition, densifying housing, transportation, and business development in suburb and city alike, and weakening or casting aside the authority of local governments over core responsibilities, from zoning to transportation to education.”
AFFH’s reach is so widespread because so many communities have become far too dependent on such HUD programs as Community Development Block Grants. If a local town or city wants federal housing funding, then it would have to comply with AFFH. The mandate’s egregiousness was magnified by its use of the dubious legal theory known as “disparate impact.”
This doctrine is used to tar policies and general practices that are entirely and wholly race-neutral as discriminatory, even if there is no proof of any discriminatory intent whatsoever. If said policies somehow have a disproportionate impact on categories of Americans deemed protected by the federal government, they are defined as discriminatory and thus illegal.
Some 377 pages long, AFFH rightly came into the sights of Ben Carson’s HUD soon after the change in administrations. In 2018, Carson’s HUD announced the withdrawal of the 2015 mandate’s so-called “Local Government Assessment Tools,” in which communities had to report non-housing related information. This would then be used by HUD to judge the efforts to “diversify” their communities. If federal bureaucrats believed a community was not sufficiently “diversified,” the local jurisdiction would not get federal funds that are intended to provide affordable housing.
Under the revised, proposed rule recently released, HUD concluded that the prior scumbag/liar-nObama assessment tools “required significant resources from program participants, and its complexity and demands resulted in a high failure rate for jurisdictions.”
They required local officials to answer ninety-two questions on such topics as “significant disparities in access to opportunities, and disproportionate housing needs.” The local officials also had to analyze and report data on such issues as “access to public transportation, quality schools and jobs … [and] environmental health hazards,” topics far afield from the issue of whether there is affordable housing in a particular community.
The new rule says that its goal is to provide “access to housing” and “improved housing conditions,” as opposed to racial diversity. But it still lists a long series of factors that HUD considers “inherent barriers to fair housing choice” that clearly go far outside the issue of affordable housing and interfere with local decisions on zoning and community development.
That includes things like “unduly rigorous design standards” for housing; “unduly prescriptive or burdensome building and rehabilitation codes;” “arbitrary or excessive energy and water efficiency standards;” “source of income restrictions on rental housing;” “time-consuming construction or rehabilitation permitting and review procedures;” and “administrative procedures which have the effect of … impeding the approval of affordable housing development;” etc.
In other words, a local community may be denied federal housing funds if it believes it is in the best interests of its residents to have high-quality housing that is both energy and water-efficient. Or if it thinks landlords should have the ability to make their own decisions on the creditworthiness and ability of tenants to pay their rent. Or if a town wants to carefully review and approve the work of contractors to protect its residents. So, just like the Obama rule, the new proposed rule will once again force local communities that want HUD money to change their zoning rules and administrative procedures.
What is particularly irksome about this regulation is that it appears to violate federal law. 42 U.S.C. §12711 — “Protection of State and local authority” — specifically bars HUD from conditioning federal housing assistance on the type of conditions outlined in the new rule that interferes with a state or local “public policy, regulation, or law.”
The purpose of the federal money appropriated by Congress for HUD is to provide local communities with the funds necessary to build housing that Americans at the lower end of the socioeconomic level can afford. The only rule that HUD should have in place to decide what jurisdiction will receive these grants is whether they will be used to increase the supply of affordable housing. End of story.
It is by overturning such monstrosities as AFFH and the disparate impact standard that the Trump administration will make its mark in history. Secretary Carson and other members of the administration should bear this in mind. ~The Patriot Post

How people become frantic and cower to absurd fears imposed upon them by ill informed politicians who enforce ridiculous restrictions, causing distancing of physical interactions is beyond comprehension.
We are now witnessing the results of a dumb-down educational system no better than on medieval level and standards. Hence, it is easier to corral masses of people into a mode of 'thinking' leading into, at times, a pasture of destruction with a cliff nearby. It is curious that no one is questioning the validity or the necessity to panic over something that may or may not exist in reality as an initial cause of death; due to a lack of understanding it, totally. Most of the medical experts are not helping to alleviate the panic but, carelessly, exasperating the situation, by not allowing other competent, medical experts contribute their input, outside the mainstream, who might have a better understanding of the psycho-socio-medical implications.
It is an extraordinary phenomena that people take faith in political judgments as the gospel of safety and good health, not realizing that they are not God; yet believing they are god-like; allowing them to override reasoning and good old horse sense. Furthermore, what complicates the matter even worse is having an, overanxious, medical expert force supporting it, most likely, for nefarious reasons of self gain.
Now that many Americans have much time, confined in their home and cubicles, they can ponder about the rationale and motive behind this intended or unintended sham: the "virus scare". A good rest, sometimes, brings us back to are senses, and sometimes not.

Government by shutting down business and isolating people will never be the cure but it will be the cause of epidemics and death. Hospitals cannot treat patients, adequately, with other ailments, thus worsening their condition to death or near death; a vulnerable and dangerous situation for every American.
The Federal and State Governments have created a far more injurious situation to all Americans by shutting down society and the economy. It seems common sense has vacated the minds of people who are entrusted with our health and safety. They are not thinking clearly but instead are in a panic mode to what seems to protect themselves politically, yet unwisely. Throwing money at this virus is a waste of time;a ludicrous move that will accomplish nothing but an unintended consequence of neglecting the rest of ill patients hurting and dying from other causes; ultimately blamed on the virus when in fact it sets these otherwise, would be hopeful and recovering patients sentencing them to inevitable death due to allocating most medical resources to a spook virus, which only affects only a minute percent of people. If this is not suicide then it is outright genocide.
How can a whole of a people of a Nation be so irrationally dictated to by an extremely irrational Government reaction. Thousands of people die every year in this Country; now most deaths will be blamed on a virus no matter what other underlying causes of death may be, therefore, justifying more societal restrictions and limitations on movement and freedom.
Even faced with medical facts people are still hysterical enough not to see and understand them.
Again, over 80,000 people died from the virus last year, however, again there were other underlying factors causing death; the medical industry does not want this well advertised so they clump these death together with a virus. Why? Answer: federal funds for their pet projects and wealth for themselves and their industry.
It is a respiratory illness ! Think! China has the most air pollution; Italy the same etc. etc. etc.. .We too have that same problem. Here where Common Sense departs from our Leaders. They are not scientists; but some of the scientists are misleading them into political destruction. Maybe, not too far fetched, they, the scientists, want to be eventually the new government themselves. If that is the scenario, genocide is not too far off for a major portion of our society. The massive economic stimulus package is intended to buoy the flagging economy, which has been wracked by the damage from the coronavirus pandemic as it spreads across the country and causes businesses to shut down and lay off workers. An agreement on the bill, which passed the Senate unanimously in a 96-to-0 vote Thursday, was reached after five days of intense negotiations between senators and senior members of the Trump administration. Lawmakers rushed back to Washington, D.C. on Thursday after Representative Thomas Massie, a Kentucky Republican, indicated he may delay the bill by demanding a recorded vote requiring at least 216 members to appear on the floor. The bill passed by a voice vote after lawmakers defeated Massie’s attempt to demand a recorded vote. “Members are advised that it is possible this measure will not pass by voice vote,” House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy said Thursday, adding that members should “follow the guidance of their local and state health officials” but if they are “able and willing” to be in Washington by 10 a.m. on Friday they are “encouraged to do so with caution.” The bill, the third coronavirus stimulus package passed by Congress, provides $367 billion in loans to help small businesses hit hard by the outbreak to keep making payroll, $100 billion for hospitals, and $150 billion for state and local governments. The plan also provides for Americans who make up to $75,000 to receive a one-time payment of $1,200. A $500 billion fund earmarked for corporations that have been economically damaged by the pandemic will be overseen by an inspector general and a congressional panel, in accordance with Democrats’ demands. U.S. coronavirus cases rose by 15,000 on Thursday, bumping the total number of infected individuals to more than 82,100, above the number the virus has sickened in China, where the virus outbreak began, and Italy, which has been hit particularly hard by the pandemic. Boris Johnson tests positive for coronavirus

In a video message posted to his Twitter account Friday, he explained he had developed "mild symptoms" over the last 24 hours -- "a temperature and a persistent cough." "On the advice of the chief medical officer I have taken a test. That has come out positive, so, I am working from home," Johnson said. "I’m self-isolating. And that’s entirely the right thing to do." "But, be in no doubt that I can continue thanks to the wizardry of modern technology to communicate with all my top team to lead the national fight back against coronavirus," he added. The White House says President Trump spoke with Johnson today, where he "thanked the Prime Minister for his close friendship and wished him a speedy recovery." Johnson's diagnosis comes just a couple of days after Prince Charles revealed a positive test. U.K. Health Secretary Matt Hancock announced Friday that he has it as well -- and like Johnson, is now working from home. "I'll be self-isolating here until next Thursday," Hancock said. The United Kingdom, like many other countries around the world fighting the coronavirus, has rolled out a series of orders for non-essential businesses to close and residents to remain indoors unless otherwise necessary. Health-care rationing already exists, especially for the sick and elderly, and worries about tight hospital supplies have sparked discussions about keeping medical care from elderly coronavirus patients even though U.S. hospitals are not yet as overwhelmed as other nations’ hospitals are. MSN News recently reported that U.S. hospitals are discussing “do not resuscitate” orders for coronavirus patients, “regardless of the wishes of the patient or their family members.” The justification is that anywhere from eight to 30 hospital staff are required to attempt to resuscitate such a patient, and the process for doing so would put medical personnel in danger of contracting the virus and use up crucial medical products that are in short supply. If the United States gets to the desperate point other nations such as Italy have, lacking the medical equipment and personnel to treat all critical coronavirus patients, triage will be necessary. Yet it is crucial that triage decisions such as these do not discriminate based solely on age or disability, writes ethics professor Charles Camosy: New York state put together a protocol back in 2008 titled ‘Allocation of Ventilators in a Public Health Disaster’ largely reaffirmed in 2015 designed for a moment like ours. Wisely, our state insists that age and health problems or disabilities unrelated to what is causing the epidemic shouldn’t serve as the basis for rationing. Prognosis for recovery is what matters. A New York hospital could choose to give its last ventilator to the 72-year-old marathon runner rather than to the 57-year-old pack-a-day smoker. Again, based only on prognosis for recovery. The objectivity of the standard removes much of the physician’s subjective ideology from the picture. { freebeacon.com } ~ Not long ago, as the severity of the coronavirus pandemic became clear, journalists were quick to say that the crisis marked the end of an era. "The Trump Presidency is Over," declared a headline in the Atlantic... One article in Politico said, "The Pandemic Is the End of Trumpism." A New York Times op-ed column carried the headline, "The Era of Small Government Is Over." Well, yes. At least so far as that last article is concerned. The era of small government has been over for decades if it ever happened at all. The highpoint of Republican and conservative efforts to limit the size and scope of the federal Leviathan was either Ronald Reagan's 1982 budget or the scumbag/liar-Clinton-Gingrich welfare reform of 1996. Then the GOP abandoned its plans for minimal government. Even the Tea Party insurgency—which began as a rebellion against standpatters in the Republican establishment—protested cuts to Medicare and achieved little more than a sequester that severely damaged military readiness. And, of course, the current Republican president was elected on a pledge not to touch senior health care and retirement benefits. No small-government conservative, he. What the moment requires is some intellectual modesty. It is far too early in the development of this national emergency to make definitive judgments on its political, economic, social, and cultural effects. We might as well explore alternative scenarios. For example: The coronavirus might not signify a conclusion to or beginning of a historical era, so much as an acceleration of previously germinating inclinations.This quickening is most visible in the United States Senate. It was the youthful and heterodox members of the Republican conference who first recognized the severity of the challenges emanating from Wuhan, China. As Congress put together its economic relief bill, these lawmakers did not worry about violating free-market dogma. They recognized the extraordinary nature of the situation. Their primary concern was the fate of the unemployed. In so far as "Trumpism," to the degree that it exists, describes a political tendency that is suspicious of overseas commitments, international trade, and unchecked immigration, and more worried about the rise of China than the revanchism of Russia, this pandemic does not spell the "end." It may even serve as vindication. The Republican senators most widely seen as preparing to run for president in 2024 have used the past few weeks to articulate a conservatism that is more heavily weighted toward security than freedom. Tom Cotton has a bill, cosponsored by Mike Gallagher in the House, to end U.S. dependence on the Chinese manufacture of pharmaceuticals. Josh Hawley introduced an "Emergency Family Relief Act" that was much more ambitious than the for now onetime payments included in the economic triage bill. Marco Rubio designed the small-business lending component that is essential to the CARES Act. They all criticized the Chinese government for lying about the coronavirus as it spread throughout the world....

to America's Biggest Problem

The problems relate to how Americans view the role of government in their lives and to the belief that government money can always fix problems. Let's look at the money issue first. The immediate reaction of our government to the virus threat was to spend massive amounts of money. The latest news is that politicians plan to "boost" the economy with nearly two trillion dollars in spending and loans. "The package is coming in at about 10% of GDP. It's very large," says Larry Kudlow. For a plan of this size to sound like a good idea, you need to ignore some important economic facts. Our country has unbelievable levels of debt, and our debt is rising rapidly. The numbers are staggering. The debt clock shows U.S. debt at $23 trillion nearly 110% of the GDP and unfunded liabilities of $77 trillion. That's a conservative estimate. Boston University economist Laurence Kotlikoff, an expert on the national debt, says, "The true size of our fiscal problem is $222 trillion...20 times bigger than the official debt." He says, "The government has gone out of its way to run up a Ponzi scheme and keep evidence of that off the books by using language to make it appear that we have a small debt." We are on the Titanic, headed for the debt iceberg. In brief moments of clear vision, we see the iceberg and know we must change course to avoid disaster. But a self-imposed fog allows us to pretend things are fine. Do not look away. Look directly at this problem. It's real. Things that are unsustainable cannot be sustained. Reality always bats last. There is also an important moral dimension to new spending programs. The government has spent all of its income and much more, so we should think of new spending programs as simply more debt being piled onto our children and grandchildren. The required first sentence of any new spending bill should be, "Our current consumption is more important to us than any burden we will place on future generations, therefore let's place this much more debt on them." It is immoral to ignore the burden of the deficit on future generations. We are digging a hole for them that they will never get out of. Government debt is a government claim on future incomes. It is an unpaid tax bill. You can make the case that big deficit spending is warranted to protect current and future citizens in a time of war. Some level of spending is warranted in the fight against this virus. But look at the big picture of government expansion over the last several decades as the administrative state grew and the deficit exploded. Does it make you a caring person if you propose "free health care" for everyone, including illegal aliens? No, it makes you a dangerous fool. In the socialist dream world, there will never be a day of reckoning for government debt. Stephanie Kelton, an economic adviser to commie-Bernie Sanders, said, "If you control your own currency and you have bills that are coming due, it means you can always afford to pay the bills on time. You can never go broke; you can never be forced into bankruptcy." Governments that have tried this approach have ended up with money that looks like this 50-trillion-dollar bill from Zimbabwe. It's real paper money. But this $50 trillion wouldn't buy much. In Venezuela, the inflation rate is around 53 million percent. That means everything costs more every day. And with socialist destruction of the economy, there are far fewer things to buy. This kind of money does help with the toilet paper shortage, though....

{ news.usni.org } ~ Hospital ship USNS Comfort (T-AH-20) will leave for New York City on Saturday, with President Donald Trump and Acting Secretary of the Navy Thomas Modly on hand to see off the ship from Naval Station Norfolk, Va. ...Trump announced today he would travel to Norfolk on Saturday “to bid bon voyage to the hospital ship USNS Comfort (T-AH-20) as it leaves for New York City to the frontlines of the COVID-19 virus response. The USNS Comfort will sail well ahead of its originally scheduled departure time to answer America’s call to battle against the global pandemic here at home,” reads a White House news release. Earlier in the day, Modly said in a Pentagon press briefing that “we’ve accelerated the plan for Comfort. We had originally been looking at April 3, but in all likelihood she’s going to be getting underway this weekend. So hopefully she’ll be there in New York by the early part of next week.” Modly said at the briefing that he would visit the ship before it left to support the American city hardest hit by the COVID-19 pandemic, but he did not specify exactly which day he would visit or the ship would depart. Asked at the briefing when Comfort would arrive at New York City Harbor, Modly said, “it will all depend on her transit time and how well she’s functioning on the route up there.” The hospital ship, a converted San Clemente-class super tanker that has provided global medical support under the Military Sealift Command for 33 years, was undergoing maintenance work in Norfolk when Trump announced the ship would be deployed to support New York’s COVID-19 outbreak. Comfort will not take on infected patients but will rather care for patients with other needs – emergency surgeries, trauma care and more – to free up beds and doctors at New York hospitals so they can deal with the virus. USNI News reported that major maintenance actions were accelerated and other minor work was deferred to allow for the ship to be buttoned up, staffed and supplied in time for this weekend’s deployment. Comfort’s sister ship, USNS Mercy (T-AH-19), departed San Diego on Monday and should pull into Los Angeles tomorrow, after at-sea training and ballasting this week. The White House statement adds that “over 1,200 medical personnel and critical supplies will be onboard the vessel. They will bring to bear the skills, care, and compassion needed to wage this fight against an invisible enemy. After years of criticizing U.S. President Donald J. Trump for pushing an "America First" policy, European leaders are reverting to the very nationalism they have publicly claimed to despise. Ever since the threat posed by coronavirus came into focus, Europeans have displayed precious little of the high-minded multilateral solidarity that for decades has been sold to the rest of the world as a bedrock of European unity. The EU's unique brand of soft power, said to be a model for a post-national world order, has been shown to be an empty fiction. In recent weeks, EU member states have closed their borders, banned exports of critical supplies and withheld humanitarian aid. Starting immediately, anyone coming into the state from New York state will be mandated to self-quarantine for 14 days, the governor said. “No matter how you come to Rhode Island – bus, car, train, plane – you are ordered to quarantine for 14 days,” Raimondo said. “In my judgement this is the most prudent form of action in light of the crisis.” Members of the National Guard will be stationed at train and bus stations to gather the contact information of anyone coming in from New York. In addition, the Rhode Island State Police will station troopers at the state border to flag down vehicles with New York license plates. The information collected will be used only for contact tracing by the Rhode Island Department of Health, Raimondo said. “This is different. This is unusual. This is radical,” Raimondo said. “I don’t want anyone to panic. If anything, Rhode Islanders should breathe a sigh of relief. Whatever they’d envisioned, the $2 trillion bill agreed to by the Senate in the wee hours of Wednesday morning wasn’t it. As congressional leaders assembled the spending bill, the push for clean energy drew fierce opposition from Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and conservative critics, who accused Democrats of trying to exploit the urgent need for coronavirus relief to foist an environmental agenda on a wounded country. “Some folks in Congress and in other parts of Washington, D.C. are suggesting this is a bunch of liberals angling for the Green New Deal, and these are coastal elites that just want to pad their investments in clean energy,” says Bob Keefe, executive director of Environmental Entrepreneurs, or E2, a nonpartisan group of business leaders and investors. “It’s not.” Most people in the clean energy sector are “boot strap-and-jeans guys,” Keefe says. “These are everyday Americans who are struggling.” Here’s where stimulus negotiations currently stand. The wind and solar industry asked for extension of tax credits and other supportive provisions. They were cut out entirely. Solar power lobbyists have warned that half the industry’s jobs are at risk as a result of the pandemic. Some solar panels are stranded in other countries, and even when supplies are on hand, lockdown orders are preventing workers from installing panels. Where oil refineries are generally exempt from shelter-in-place requirements, the waiver doesn’t extend to all renewable energy ventures. Wind developers are racing to get projects in service so they don’t lose some of the value of the renewable energy tax credits that will start being phased out for turbines next year. Colorado-based Scout Clean Energy, for instance, is racing to finish construction on a 200-megawatt project in South Dakota. At the same time, it’s seeking to renegotiate power-purchase agreements in anticipation that the work might not be done in time to claim the full production tax credit, says chief executive Michael Rucker....
Will Wasteful Provisions in Coronavirus Relief Package Come Back to Haunt Congress?

Workers in low-wage jobs have a greater incentive to stay unemployed instead of returning to work. Others have nothing to do with the immediate crisis. The Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act (CARES Act) – which the House of Representatives is expected to vote on Friday – includes the funding for the African Development Fund (ADF), the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the International Development Association (IDA). The ADF and the AfDB are two related organizations that help fund development and poverty eradication efforts in Africa, whereas the IDA is a subsidiary of the World Bank that gives to poor countries in general. Combined, they will receive more than $10.8 billion under the CARES Act. This amount includes $7,286,587,008 for the AfDB, $513,900,000 for the ADF and $3,004,200,000 for the IDA. As the costliest stimulus measure in U.S. history, the bill has generated a mixed and often-conflicted reaction even from those advocating for it. The package contains sorely needed relief for struggling workers facing layoffs as businesses are forced to temporarily shutter on an unprecedented scale in a bid to curb the spread of coronavirus. Already, Israelis have had restrictions placed on their movements, ability to assemble and work, and leave their homes... Life has changed completely, as children and students of all ages have been sent home and their institutions shuttered for almost one and a half months, and perhaps much longer. Already one citizen has died, and more than 1,000 have been sickened in varying degrees. More than 150,000 Israelis who have been quarantined, completely cut off from life, sometimes sitting in one room for 14 days. All of these measures are placing a tremendous strain on our economy and the ability of our nation to function. Nonetheless, so far, Israel has acted with a national understanding that these steps are what it takes to be victorious over an invisible and deadly enemy. When the coronavirus leaves us and life returns to some semblance of normalcy, it will only be a matter of time before our terrorist enemies once again test us with a barrage of rockets and missiles targeting our civilian population centers. Our responses in recent years to this have been minimal, to say the least. More often than not, our political decision-makers decide to bomb a few empty buildings and then seek a truce with the offending party, whether Hamas or Palestine Islamic Jihad. When one asks political and security officials intimately involved why the response is so extremely limited, many argue that the public does not have the stomach for lengthy wars with large casualty figures. On Tuesday, during a Fox News town hall, President Donald Trump took aim at House liar-Speaker Nancy Pelosi and her Congressional colleagues for denying American people the support they need. He also exposed the “terrible” nature of the bill Democrats proposed in its place. Specifically, Trump exposed how the proposed replacement legislation is packed full of measures that the Democrats have been trying to get passed for years, but have consistently failed to do. Why do the Democrats think the American people want their insane proposals at a time of national crisis? “I cancelled the deal last night, I said, ‘I’m not gonna sign that deal,’ because liar-Nancy Pelosi came in and put a lot of things in the deal that had nothing to do with the workers,” Trump told Fox. “It had to do with an agenda that they’ve been trying to get passed for 10 years. And, I came in, I told Mike Pence, I told a lot of people, ‘there’s no way I’m signing that deal.’” The president also explained how he had received calls from Republican Senator for Louisiana John Kennedy, Republican Senator for Nebraska Ben Sasse, and various other people who told him “This deal is terrible, what they’ve done.” During the town hall event, Trump also explained how the Republicans had worked on a bipartisan basis to construct a bill that could be supported on both sides of the aisle. Despite working in good faith with the Democrats, however, it was shot down when it came to the vote. Trump said they “almost had a deal” on the stimulus bill. “They took a deal, you know we almost had a deal the day before and it was between scumbag-Schumer and Mitch and it was really a good solid deal,” President Trump explained. “All of a sudden they start throwing all of the little Green New Deal stuff in, right? And the boardrooms, what they look like, and we want green energy, we want all this stuff…they had things in there that were terrible.” So what does this mean? Well, Americans shouldn’t expect any support from the government until the Democrats decided to stop playing games. Had liar-Pelosi and the Democrats supported the legislation, Americans who earn under $75,000 per year would have been given $1,200 to help navigate through the coronavirus pandemic. Who knows if or when the Democrats will decide to play ball?..

Members of both parties worked through the weekend to come to an agreement and, at the last minute, liar-Pelosi decided it would be better for the House to introduce their own coronavirus relief plan. Her reasoning? There weren't enough progressive items in the bill and Democrats saw this as the perfect opportunity to fundamentally transform America into what they think it should be. Senators who were part of the negotiations and agreed to the bill before liar-Pelosi blew it up decided to follow liar-Pelosi's lead. But not every Democrat is happy with the party's hyper-partisanship, especially as Americans across the country are suffering. Sen. Doug Jones (D-AL) was the only Democrat to vote in favor of cloture on Monday, which would fast-track the proposed Wuhan coronavirus relief bill. Even though he voted alongside Republicans, Democrats were able to get their way, yet again. The motion failed with a vote of 49-46. Jones told CNN's Manu Raji he's "embarrassed" by the political games that are taking place. The Senate is expected to vote on the Wuhan coronavirus relief package sometime Wednesday evening, assuming no further delays take place..

{ opensecrets.org } ~ Powerful companies and trade groups with sway in Washington are asking for more than $2.7 trillion in grants, loans and other assistance amid the coronavirus pandemic... And that’s only those that have put a price tag on the financial aid they need. Congress is poised to provide far less than that. The Senate unanimously passed a bipartisan $2.2 trillion coronavirus relief bill Wednesday that will establish a $450 billion lending program to support struggling businesses and provide $350 billion in loans to small businesses. The House is expected to pass the bill and President Donald Trump has said he will sign it. Lobbying groups representing various business interests requested direct assistance for their members, but many of those companies will now have to battle with others for government loans. Only a couple of industries received specified aid. Airlines and airports, among the first industries to ask for government assistance, are big winners. Passenger airlines and cargo carriers will receive $29 million in direct grants and up to $29 billion in loans. Airports will get the $10 billion they requested. Aerospace giant Boeing is also likely to receive billions in federal loans thanks to a provision in the bill, the Washington Post reported. Those funds provide crucial assistance to the air transport industry that has steadily increased its lobbying spending, reaching record levels last year. Hospitals will also get much of the assistance they were looking for as they fight COVID-19. The stimulus bill provides $100 billion to hospitals battling the coronavirus pandemic. Senate Minority Leader Chuck scumbag-Schumer (D-N.Y.), whose closely tied super PAC is bankrolled by New York hospitals, pushed to secure those funds. Health industry groups including the American Hospital Association called for $100 billion, while for-profit hospitals asked for $225 billion. The health sector has smashed lobbying records in recent years and shown tremendous influence in Congress... .

China Virus Demands Reckoning for Beijing
Harold Hutchison The China Virus has wreaked economic havoc. It has infected tens of thousands of Americans, killing several hundred so far. This is an immense tragedy for all those affected, whether they have lost jobs, health (either temporarily or permanently), or loved ones.
Sadly, it didn’t have to happen. Despite massive disinformation efforts, evidence has emerged that the government of the People’s Republic of China engaged in a cover-up that lasted weeks, if not months. Even as this evidence mounts, the Chinese Communists have spewed the despicable lie that the Wuhan coronavirus is somehow a biological weapon developed by the United States Army.
Mainstream media outlets like The New York Times, The Washington Post, and the Times of London — all of which are grossly biased against President Donald Trump — have published reports about what the Chinese Communists knew, when they knew it, and how they tried to keep that knowledge from the world. The Financial Times has some even more damning reports about how Taiwan’s warnings to the World Health Organization were ignored.
Take a look at this January 14 post on Twitter from the WHO. Take a look at what life in America is like as of today, and what has been in the news. Reread what those mainstream outlets have reported about how the government of Communist China responded and how Taiwan’s warning was ignored.
China fed the world lies and propaganda for weeks to cover up the existence of the Wuhan coronavirus, and at the very least the WHO went along. It may be more than coincidence that China backed the election of WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus in 2017. Ghebreyesus has spent the last two months downplaying the threat, while providing cover and offering fawning praise for the ChiComs.
Moreover, that cover-up cost time — time that could have, at the very least, mitigated the effects of what became a pandemic. Imagine if it hadn’t been covered up. Imagine being worried about how your NCAA bracket is going to turn out instead of whether all the toilet paper has been bought up — or if you’ll receive a paycheck on Friday.
Because of the cover-up orchestrated by the People’s Republic of China and the WHO’s inexcusable failure to heed Taiwan’s warning, Americans have suffered a serious economic hit. Because of this cover-up, Americans have gotten sick. Because of this cover-up, Americans have died. For what? To avoid embarrassing Beijing’s dictator?
When companies perpetrate crap like this that doesn’t cost lives (see Enron), they face class-action lawsuits. Sometimes, executives even go to jail. { foxnews.com } ~ The $2 trillion spending package to boost the economy in response to the coronavirus crisis includes a $350 million pot of money for “Migration and Refugee Assistance”... the latest item in the legislative behemoth that is angering critics. While a number of items that Republicans objected to got trimmed in the final Senate bill, the Migrant and Refugee Assistance item actually increased by $50 million to $350 million. That's more than the bill put forward by House Democrats earlier this week, which included $300 million in “Migrant and Refugee Assistance” for the State Department. Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla, called it a “poison pill” that put “America LAST.” “Democrats: This is not the time to advance your legislative agenda,” he tweeted before the bill passed the Senate late Wednesday. “This is the time to put #AmericaFirst.’ The bill ultimately passed the Senate 96-0 and is expected to pass the House in a voice vote on Friday. It includes a number of measures to boost businesses and help individuals hurt by the economic downturn triggered by the coronavirus pandemic. But it includes controversial items, such as $25 million in funding for the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. The Senate bill also provides $75 million to each the National Endowment for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Humanities. { washingtonexaminer.com } ~ Prominent Republicans eyeing a 2024 White House bid have placed themselves at the epicenter of efforts to blunt the coronavirus pandemic... with some departing from President Trump by proposing an extended and more aggressive economic shutdown. As Trump floats reopening a quarantined national economy by Easter, two Republican senators with presidential aspirations, Tom Cotton of Arkansas and Rick Scott of Florida, support tightening current restrictions and maintaining them for at least 30 days. Scott’s eight-point plan would suspend domestic airline travel and place a moratorium on people’s monthly financial obligations. Cotton advocates nationwide shelter-in-place rules and is urging the administration to heed the recommendations of Anthony Fauci and other experts. “This is the stark truth: we have to arrest the spread of the China virus to get the economy back on its feet & get life back to something like normal,” Cotton tweeted Tuesday. The same day, Trump began discussing the need to balance public health concerns properly with the damage to a stunted economy could have on the public's psyche. Cotton and Scott are among a handful of potential 2024 presidential candidates who have sought to influence the federal government’s response to the coronavirus. Others have been drafted, willingly or not, by virtue of their position in the Trump administration. Vice President Mike Pence was tapped to lead the White House pandemic task force; Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is running point as it relates to coordination and interaction abroad. Marco Rubio of Florida, chairman of the Senate Small Business Committee and a potential 2024 contender, was the lead Republican negotiator of a bipartisan blueprint to rescue small businesses teetering on insolvency because of the pandemic. The measure was a critical component of the $2 trillion coronavirus relief package poised to clear Congress this week. With thousands of businesses endangered and millions poised to lose their jobs, some Republican strategists believe GOP primary voters will reward, or punish, 2024 contenders based on how they responded to the economic fallout. At the very least, some political professionals expect the coronavirus pandemic to affect how Republicans campaign, even if it does not substantially alter what primary voters are looking for in a successor to Trump....

{ timesofisrael.com } ~ Blue and White chairman Benny Gantz is set to partner Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in a unity government, serving initially as foreign minister... but then taking over from Netanyahu as prime minister in September 2021, according to a reported deal taking shape amid immense political drama in Israel on Thursday afternoon. Gantz’s decision to join forces with Netanyahu immediately led to the collapse of Blue and White, with the party’s No. 2 Yair Lapid rejecting the move and apparently heading into opposition with others from his Yesh Atid component of Blue and White. “Gantz chose Netanyahu over Lapid,” Channel 12 reported succinctly. Yesh Atid and Moshe Ya’alon’s Telem faction both filed a formal request to break away from Blue and White late on Thursday afternoon, leaving only Gantz’s Israel Resilience Party to join forces with Netanyahu’s Likud. Lapid had reportedly told Gantz he preferred that Israel go to fourth elections rather than see Blue and White partner Netanyahu in power. The coalition is reportedly likely to constitute 78-79 MKs — Likud, Gantz’s Israel Resilience, Labor, Yamina, Shas and United Torah Judaism — according to Channel 12. That would leave Lapid’s Yesh Atid, Ya’alon’s Telem, Avigdor Liberman’s Yisrael Beytenu, Meretz and the mainly Arab Joint List in opposition. However, various other fluctuations are deemed possible, with Yoaz Hendel and Zvi Hauser from Telem, for instance, said to be weighing joining the coalition. The unity deal was taking shape as the Knesset met to vote for a new speaker, following Likud speaker Yuli Edelstein’s resignation on Wednesday. Gantz offered himself as the sole candidate for the Knesset speaker’s job, which he is set to hold only for a brief period while the terms of the unity coalition are finalized. He will then serve as foreign minister for the first 18 months of the emergency unity government, under the terms of the reported deal, before succeeding Netanyahu as prime minister. It was not clear what post Netanyahu would fill at that stage. The prime minister has been indicted in three corruption cases, in a trial that was supposed to begin last week but has been postponed to May amid the coronavirus crisis. { mediaite.com } ~ President Donald Trump’s reelection campaign is threatening to file lawsuits against local news outlets in several battleground states... if they continue to air a political ad showing his attempts to downplay the coronavirus. Priorities USA, a liberal super PAC, crafted the ad entitled “Exponential Threat,” and it splices audio of Trump from recent weeks as he made dismissive comments about COVID-19’s severity. At the same time, a visual graphic charts the escalation of case numbers in the U.S., which torpedoes Trump’s claims to have always taken the virus seriously. The ad is being run on TV stations in Florida, Michigan, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, according to The Hill. The ad uses audio to advance a frequent, misleading claim from Democrats that Trump called the coronavirus a “hoax” at a rally. A fact check by Washington Post explains, however, that Trump was referring to public concerns about the virus and attempts by critics to politicize it against him. Campaign attorney Alex Cannon sent cease and desist letters to all the stations airing the ad, saying they will take legal action if they don’t stop airing it. “PUSA’s advertisement is false, misleading, and deceptive, and we formally demand that your station refuse to continue airing it to meet your responsibilities not to broadcast false information,” the letter says. “Should you fail to immediately cease broadcasting PUSA’s ad ‘Exponential Threat,’ Donald J. Trying to cut off presidential briefings during a crisis. The first is expected. The second is obscene. Here the New York Times offers both. He has also encouraged the use of medications that have yet to be proved effective against the virus; on Monday, a man in Arizona died after he and his wife consumed a form of chloroquine, a drug that Mr. Trump has promoted on the air. The media is pushing this false claim repeatedly. The Arizona couple took fish cleaner. Not a prescribed medication. The Times, like the rest of the media, fails to mention this while pursuing its political narrative. And that's what this is about. Maintaining media supremacy. “I would stop putting those briefings on live TV — not out of spite, but because it’s misinformation,” the MSNBC host Rachel Maddow declared to her viewers last week. The Times is quoting a conspiracy theorist who pushed nonsense and lies to her viewers for years about misinformation. If knows about misinformation, it's Maddow. The White House, in turn, has been critical of TV networks that do not do its bidding. On Monday, after CNN and MSNBC cut away from the final portion of Mr. Trump’s briefing, a White House spokesman, Judd Deere, called the move “pretty disgraceful.” CNN responded that the network “will make our own editorial decisions.” MSNBC said it had cut away only “because the information no longer appeared to be valuable to the important ongoing discussion around public health.” It's not the job of the media to "fact check" press briefings in real time. Mark Alexander The latest mainstream media drama and distraction is centered on politicized claims accusing the HHS/CDC (and, by extension, Donald Trump) for being slow to implement testing for COVID-19 (CV19) infections. While tests are not vaccines, antidotes, or cures, they certainly are instructive in determining viral spread and how to retard it.
As for all the Demo finger pointing, some issues about our national response to CV19 should be fairly debated at the proper time, in hindsight after-action. But those conclusions regarding those issues can’t be fairly assumed now, as the Demos and Leftmedia have done.
One of the physicians who has been a Patriot Post resource for years is a former Army doc and an exceptionally gifted medical analyst. He graduated from a highly esteemed medical school at age 20 and completed seven medical specialty fellowships.
He offered the following assessment on the prospects for CV19 treatment and vaccines: “Healthcare providers from around the world are collaborating as never before to improve treatment results. Anti-viral, antibiotic, inhaled medication, and connective-tissue-disease medications have all shown promise and the world’s medical community has embraced the challenge. We get daily updates from our Seattle, French, and Italian colleagues from the trenches on what is working and what is not (avoid nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs!). Outcomes are improving. We are utilizing this information to treat our sickest patients.”
Regarding hopes of a quick vaccine, he notes, “Vaccine is many months away and double-blinded treatment protocols are not being considered (who wants to be in the ‘no treatment’ group?). A vaccine requires a stable locus on the virus (no mutation that would delete the antigen), safety and efficacy data, as well as the ability to mass produce the vaccine. This process usually takes 2-5 years and very few of these ever make it to market. Approximately 87% of would-be vaccines never make it to human testing. We are attempting to greatly accelerate the process, but only so many corners can be cut if we are to have a safe and effective product. It’s worth mentioning that we’ve had the SARS virus around for over a decade and have yet to develop a vaccine for it. A daunting task, but with many brilliant minds, the human spirit, and a healthy dose of prayer, we shall overcome.”
As for the vaccine now being administered in Seattle, the original epicenter of CV19 in the U.S., he adds, “While the vaccine doses being administered there are being used under a ‘compassionate need’ basis, it will take time to know if that vaccine has any effect on prevention.”
In other words, successful treatments and vaccines are not likely to emerge soon.
Additionally, regarding the rise and decline of CV19, Nobel laureate and Stanford biophysicist Michael Levitt believes the virus spread will be much more manageable than current risk assessments trumpeted by the mass media.
According to Levitt, “What we need is to control the panic. … We’re going to be fine. The real situation is not nearly as terrible as they make it out to be.” His analysis indicates that CV19 in the U.S. will follow a similar pattern to that in Asia and will peak sooner than thought. Let’s pray that assessment is correct.
