After Gladys Knight’s stirring rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner, we saw two underperforming offenses, an underwhelming halftime show, and some underhanded commercials designed to critique American values.
In particular, the Hulu ad for its popular series “The Handmaid’s Tale,” based on a 1980s novel by Margaret Atwood, was a cruel mockery of Ronald Reagan’s 1984 “Morning in America” ad — a warm and powerful presidential campaign ad that offered a hopeful vision of the future made possible by the continuation of Reagan’s conservative policies.
By contrast, the ad for “The Handmaid’s Tale” offers a dystopian portrait of a future theocratic Christian America in which women are oppressed and relegated to an appalling life of giving birth to children for the state, stripped of their property and rights, and enslaved.
There’s only one problem: The very same free-market systems that have historically liberated and empowered women are rejected by socialists as a form of oppression. If anyone has held back women’s progress over the years, it’s the Left. Sure, thanks to “progressives,” women in New York and a few other states can now order their unborn babies killed all the way up to 40 weeks gestation. But it’s the Reagans and Trumps of the world who are helping women enter the workplace in greater numbers — to do and to live as they see best.
Tiana Lowe writes at The Washington Examiner, “The ‘80s boom of capitalism and cocaine is supposed to have been the beginning of the end of feminism and freedom. … If anything, 'The Handmaid’s Tale’ continues to serve as an unintentional but powerful condemnation of bigger government.”
And that’s what makes the Hulu ad for “The Handmaid’s Tale” so ironic. If “Morning in America” ever ends, it’ll be at the hands of a socialist nightfall — one that seeks to curtail free speech, restrict gun rights, filter the flow of news and information, delegitimize Christianity, and trample all who dare resist.
Want to see who’s really going to bring “The Handmaid’s Tale” to your children’s future? Take a second look at President Trump’s recent State of the Union Address and watch in disbelief as uniformly dressed Democrat women refuse to acknowledge historically low unemployment for minorities and women, an ICE agent being recognized for saving 300 lives, and a host of other accomplishments.
As Alexa Moutevelis Coombs at NewsBusters notes, “‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ tries to be an allegory of the horrors that could befall us at any time, but many of those who glom onto the Hulu series as a unique and timely warning about Trump’s America seem to forget that Margaret Atwood’s book the first season was based on was published in 1985 and meant to critique Reagan and the Christian Right. To liberals, we are always one step away from fascism and women being reduced to chattel when a Republican is in power.”
Our own Robin Smith wrote in 2017, “‘Progressives’ are already equating the Margaret Atwood novel-turned-series to the faith community and those with any degree of a moral compass whose values inform their votes, their entertainment, educational choices, etc. In other words, the Left has found another tool by which to inflict cultural criticism on those who refuse to consent to the unhinged Left’s demand for consensus of their Rainbow Mafia agenda and their destruction of the First Amendment to silence all critics. The novel rightly exposes the dangers of extremes of thought and indoctrination. That is its singular value. Otherwise, the parallels drawn are clearly meant to frame America as a nation on the verge of collapse to fundamentalist Christian theocrats.”
In a country where the Left has removed crosses from highways, banned prayer in graduation speeches, and tried to force Christians to bake cakes for same-sex couples, it’s ludicrous to say the Christian Right is an imminent threat to our country’s future.
By using popular culture to warn us about the Right, the Left tends to expose its own hypocrisy in the process. In reality, the very people trying to silence free speech, install atheism as the state religion, oppress the masses, and destroy Liberty are warning the rest of us about a dark future that only their policies will create. ~The Patriot Post

Whittington argues that recent campus censorship reveals our colleges have lost a strong sense of why they exist. "We are in danger," he writes, "of giving up on the hard-won freedoms of critical inquiry that have been wrested from figures of authority over the course of a century." In Free Speech on Campus, the University of Pennsylvania's Sigal R. Ben-Porath claims, "An inclusive and welcoming campus is one that must recognize the necessity of free speech." In the identically titled Free Speech on Campus, UC Berkeley's Erwin Chemerinsky and UC Irvine's Howard Gillman—both senior academic administrators—argue that "there is no way to define an unacceptable, punishment-worthy idea without putting genuinely important new thinking and societal critique at risk." In Safe Spaces, Brave Spaces, Phillips Academy's John Palfrey insists, "Free expression and diversity are essential components of democracy."....

There are two contradictory problems with this view. The first is that this is not how the Chinese themselves understand their rise. When Chinese President Xi Jinping calls for the Chinese to realize the “China dream of national rejuvenation,” he is articulating the belief that China is simply reclaiming its natural political and cultural importance. China is not, as was once said of imperial Germany after its unification, “seeking its place in the sun.” Rather, it is retaking its rightful place as the sun. The second is that it’s an open question whether China will achieve rejuvenation in the face of both a seemingly stagnating economy and party factionalism. Xi is more powerful than his predecessors, but his rule is also more fragile. The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has long faced a crisis of legitimacy, but Xi’s transformation of China into a high-tech police state might hasten this crisis. These factors combine to make China more dangerous in the short term but also less competitive in the longer term. This means that the People’s Republic of China perceives an opportunity for “great renewal” even as it will be less powerful than was expected. Dems Block Scalise's Pro-Gun Testimonyby Thomas Gallatin: Seeking to peddle their fraudulently named “Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2019,” House Democrats refused to allow Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA) to offer his testimony and perspective on their latest gun-grabbing effort. Recall that Scalise was nearly killed two years ago when a crazed leftist attacked congressional Republicans as they practiced for the annual baseball game, shooting and injuring several. Were it not for two Capitol Police officers, David Bailey and Crystal Griner, who returned fire against the assailant, Scalise and others would be dead.
In his prepared testimony, Scalise was to argue, “These new gun-control measures being proposed in H.R. 8 would not have prevented any number of recent mass violence events. … Instead, whether intentionally or not, the gun-control proposals in H.R. 8 could turn law-abiding citizens into criminals while also failing to achieve the stated purpose of reducing gun violence.”
Scalise planned to point out that the data simple doesn’t support the Democrats’ justification for their latest draconian gun-control effort, as well as to warn that it would only endanger law-abiding Americans by further encumbering their Second Amendment right to self-defense. “Every single month in America, law-abiding citizens with concealed carry permits defend themselves and others against criminals who have guns,” Scalise notes. “For example,” he says, “on January 8th, a man approached a 25-year-old woman in Chicago, displayed a weapon, and attempted to rob her at a bus stop. The woman had a concealed-carry permit. She drew her own weapon and fired a shot, killing the armed robber. The owner of a nearby pharmacy said such violence happens ‘all over’ Chicago. However, in this case, the intended victim was able to defend herself with her own gun.”
Once again, rather than being honest, Democrats attempt to hide their anti-Second Amendment agenda and cloak it with disingenuous terminology like “commonsense gun-control” as they seek to further erode Americans’ constitutionally protected rights. Now, WNYC and ProPublica have identified evidence of potential tax law violations by the committee. A spokesman confirmed that the nonprofit 58th Presidential Inaugural Committee paid the Trump International Hotel a rate of $175,000 per day for event space — in spite of internal objections at the time that the rate was far too high. If the committee is deemed by auditors or prosecutors to have paid an above-market rate, that could violate tax laws prohibiting self-dealing, according to experts. Tax law prohibits nonprofits from paying inflated prices to entities that are owned by people who also control or influence the nonprofit’s activities. “Every legitimate nonprofit is very concerned with this,” said Doug White, a veteran adviser to tax exempt organizations, speaking generally. “You’re benefiting a private person, and you’re using the nonprofit to do it.” The inaugural committee also spent at least $1.5 million at a hotel in which the investment firm of the committee’s chairman, Tom Barrack, held a small stake. 'Green New Deal' Is Just Repackaged Socialismby Michael Swartz: It’s a little over 13 pages, but this week the long-awaited framework and philosophy for the “Green New Deal” (GND) was unleashed onto Congress. Described by House sponsor (and shiny new object) commie-Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) as “national, social, industrial and economic mobilization at a scale not seen since World War II,” the measure sets an ambitious timetable for weaning ourselves off our carbon dependency. Of course, it doesn’t get into the specifics of cost, either in dollars or in freedom.
As Mark Alexander has noted, the so-called “climate change” agenda is all about socialist economic control, as evident in the insane requirements of the GND. According to Alexander, “It may be green on the outside, but is is red on the inside.”
Written as a resolution rather than a bill, the GND reads as a laundry list of socialistic changes attached to the overriding goal of combating climate change by making America 100% dependent on “clean, renewable, and zero-emission energy sources … by dramatically expanding and upgrading renewable power sources [and] deploying new capacity.” Along the way, a second chief goal of the GND is to empower “frontline and vulnerable communities,” also known as the victim class.
While those on the extreme Left — including Vox writer David Roberts, who in December authored an extremely long treatise on the GND’s origins and eventual goals — were pleased to see the concept come to life, Roberts and others like him also know that the resolution left a lot of blanks to be filled by actual legislation.
One comparison for the GND could be made to the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, which is described by author Michael Grunwald as its own “ginormous energy bill.” A significant part of that “stimulus” money went to renewable energy and efficiency projects. But while best known for its support of failed green-energy companies like Solyndra and Ener1, it also created a large funding pool that lifted the solar- and wind-energy industries to the modest market share they now own.
Most of the 2020 Democrat presidential contenders were already behind the Green New Deal in concept, but its introduction allowed them to prove their environmental bonafides. Sen. scumbag-Cory Booker was “excited” to join in, adding, “Our history is a testimony to the achievement of what some think is impossible — we must take bold action now.” Fellow Senator and GND co-sponsor lowlife-Kamala Harris insisted, “We must aggressively tackle climate change which poses an existential threat to our nation.” Not to be outdone, Sen. Elizabeth dinky-Warren chimed in, “Climate change is real, it threatens all of us, & we have no time to waste to address it head-on.” She’ll also co-sponsor the resolution, which becomes a perfect palette from which these contenders can paint their own proposals to oppose President Donald Trump.
There was one contender with a more serious policy idea, though. Former Congressman John Delaney, who came from a business background and left Congress at the end of last term to concentrate fully on his long-shot Oval Office run, made the case that “the right answer on climate is to do whatever big thing can get done ASAP. … That’s why I support my bipartisan carbon tax-dividend proposal.” In fact, revenue sources such as a carbon tax aren’t being discussed in this rendition of the GND. Nor does the resolution explicitly call for the elimination of fossil fuels as some extremists would prefer. Adding the aspect of “clean” energy allows the inclusion of natural gas, which is generally accepted as a clean fuel. Fracking for it, on the other hand…
While there were compromises and large parts of the plan open for interpretation, the GND is still getting a cool reception from Democrat leadership. “The green dream or whatever they call it, nobody knows what it is, but they’re for it right?” asked House Speaker Nancy Pulosi somewhat dismissively. “Quite frankly, I haven’t seen it,” she added, “but I do know it’s enthusiastic and we welcome all the enthusiasm that is out there.”
Translation: She knows it’s pretty extreme, so just wait for her moderated “compromise” offer. By the way, Pulosi also pointedly did not choose commie-Ocasio-Cortez for a new committee on climate change.
Last month, our Brian Mark Weber called out the Green New Deal for what it really is: “a dangerous scam to destroy the country as we know it.”
Republicans, for their part, should certainly lampoon the GND’s most laughable parts — such as its promise of “economic security for those unable or unwilling to work” or “upgrading all existing buildings in the United States … to achieve maximal energy efficiency” or “build out high-speed rail at a scale where air travel stops becoming necessary” or to “replace every combustion-engine vehicle” (emphasis ours) — but they must be on guard for those aspects that seem somewhat reasonable by comparison.
We can’t dismiss the chance that some portions of the GND will make it through Congress or be executive-ordered by a future president. After all, people thought scumbag/liar-HillaryCare didn’t stand a chance when it was unveiled in 1993 and failed in a fully Democrat-controlled Congress. But a quarter-century later, Republicans controlled both houses and the White House and still couldn’t get rid of its successor. If nothing else, history shows that leftists are masters of incrementalism, especially when they conjure up a crisis and claim that only they can solve it.
Let’s be mindful of that history when the sun comes out tomorrow and provides its live-giving (albeit unevenly applied) brand of global warming. ~The Patriot Post

House Speaker Nancy Pulosi has been just as adamant that there is little need for additional security at the border. The California Democrat has refused to provide any funding for the construction of border walls and barriers. Even after the month-long partial government shutdown and standoff over requested funds for border barrier construction, Trump remains undeterred in his commitment. In speaking of his recent border security funding proposal to Congress during his State of the Union address Tuesday night, the president said, “In the past, most of the people in this room voted for a wall, but the proper wall never got built. I will get it built.” While Pulosi may remain firmly locked in her opposition to providing the president with the funding he has requested for improved border security measures — namely barriers and walls — more and more Democrats under Pulosi seem open to a compromise deal that would allow for at least some funding of border barriers and walls. The Hill reported that Democratic New York Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, chair of the House Democratic Caucus, told reporters that he believed a bipartisan agreement was reachable — including one that would include “enhanced fencing,” another semantic way for Democrats to avoid saying “wall” — even as he took a shot at the president for continuing to demand a “medieval” border wall. “As long as the president is willing to accept evidence-based proposals, then I think we can arrive at a bipartisan agreement,” said Jeffries. “If the president is only interested in funding a reckless political promise with respect to a medieval border wall — that will be ineffective at improving our security — then we’re going to have an issue.”....

It’s going to take a lot of resolve. The politics of class warfare, long cultivated by our school system and the media, have apparently taken root. According to a Politico/Morning Consult poll, a whopping 76% of registered voters believe the rich should pay more in taxes. A Fox News survey reveals a similar sentiment, with 70% of Americans in favor of raising taxes on those earning over $10 million.
“There is a deep wellspring in terms of perception of unfairness in the economy that’s been tapped into here that either didn’t exist five years ago or existed and had not had a chance to be expressed,” asserts Michael Cembalest, chairman of market and investment strategy at JPMorgan Asset Management “This is quite a moment in American economic history where all of a sudden in a matter of months this thing has kind of exploded like this.”
Columnist Karol Markowicz states it far more succinctly. “Watch out, America: Democrats’ class warfare is back with a vengeance,” she writes. “Your money belongs to them to redistribute as they see fit.”
Freshman House representative and media darling commie-Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s desire to impose a 70% marginal rate on income over the $10 million mark was well received by 59% of respondents to a recent Hill/HarrisX poll. Sen. Elizabeth dinky-Warren’s “wealth tax,” which would levy a 2% tax on those with a net worth over $50 million, and 3% on those worth over $1 billion, was supported by 61% of the 1,993 registered voters queried by the Politico/Morning Consult poll.
There’s a reason wealth tax is in quotations in the preceding paragraph. That’s because what Warren is proposing isn’t a tax, but outright wealth confiscation that tramples the 16th Amendment’s authorization of Congress to “lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived.” (Emphasis added).
dinky-Warren wants to confiscate pre-existing wealth — on an annual basis, no less. Thus, those with assets of $50,000 would automatically pay $1 million per year to the government and those with assets of $1 billion would automatically fork over $30 million per year, even if their annual earnings were zero.
Freshman Democrat Rep. Ilhan Omar is also aboard the bash-the-rich bandwagon. She’s proposing a 90% tax. “We don’t have a problem of scarcity, really,” she insists. “What we have is a problem of moral courage.”
Socialist commie-Bernie Sanders is after inheritances. He’s proposing a bill that would levy a 45% tax on the value of an estate between $3.5 million and $10 million, and a 50% tax on the value of an estate between $10 million and $50 million. “From a moral, economic, and political perspective,” he pontificates, “our nation will not thrive when so few have so much and so many have so little.”
Morality and fairness have nothing to do with it. As of 2016, Americans who earned $250,000 and above per year paid 52.6% of the nation’s income taxes. Those who earned between $249,000 and $200,000 paid 5.9%, and those who earned between $100,000 and $199,000 paid 21.9%.
Those three groups comprised 16% of the returns filed — yet they paid 79.4% of the nation’s income tax bill.
As for the top 1%, a Washington, DC-based think tank called the Tax Foundation reveals that in 2015, that tiny group of Americans paid 39% of individual income taxes, while the bottom 90% of Americans paid just 29.4%.
And for 2018, approximately 76.4 million American workers, or 44.4%, will pay no income tax at all.
That is not to say those Americans pay nothing. There are a host of other levies such as sales tax, property taxes, and payroll taxes for Social Security and Medicare. Yet when nearly half of Americans are relieved of the burden levied on their fellow Americans, it is no surprise that “soak the rich” is an attractive mantra for those with no skin in the game.
Unsurprisingly, hypocrisy abounds. The 2017 Republican tax cut included a $10,000 per household cap on state and loan tax deductions — meaning the so-called rich would no longer be able to deduct any income above that threshold from federal taxation.
So who complained the loudest? High-tax states controlled by those same Democrats. In fact, New York, Connecticut, Maryland, and New Jersey filed federal lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of the deduction cap, while other states engaged in dubious machinations to lower the federal-tax liability of their richer residents.
In short, those who advocate for higher taxes on the rich attempted to protect “their” rich from paying them.
Yet such hypocrisy apparently remains irrelevant. “We need additional revenue if we’re going to provide health care for all, rebuild our infrastructure, [and] make public colleges and universities tuition-free,” asserts commie-Sanders.
Few ideas are more intellectually bankrupt than the assertion that some government-provided benefits are “free.” Nothing is free, and the idea that Democrats can actually sell wealth transference as free epitomizes the astounding level of economic ignorance that afflicts this nation.
That ignorance is amplified when it ignores reality, as in the 2017 tax cuts engendering an economic boom. “US real GDP growth in the second quarter of 2018 was 83 percent greater than it was in the second quarter of 2016, the last year of the previous administration,” the Boston Globe reported last October. “The growth of real private fixed investment was 129 percent greater. The unemployment rate fell from 5.0 percent in September 2016 to 3.7 percent in September 2018.”
Nonetheless, the true believers remain unconvinced even when reality bites. On Monday, New York Gov. Andrew evil-Cuomo announced that the state had a dramatic drop in state income-tax revenue, amounting to $2.8 billion. He blamed it on the aforementioned cap on state and local tax deductions that are causing high-earning New Yorkers to … leave the state.
How many jobs will they be taking away, along with their personal wealth? How many millions of jobs will Democrats sacrifice in service to their power-hungry, bash-the-rich agenda?
More important, when will Americans realize that job creation requires incentive, not coercion?
Moreover, middle class Americans need to take heed. If they think Democrats can implement the massive expansion of their welfare-state ambitions solely on the backs of the rich, they’re quite mistaken: A 2008 analysis revealed that taxing every American millionaire at a rate of 100% would only run the federal government for 111 days. If the same outright confiscation scheme were applied to everyone earning more than $200,000 the government would run for only 253 days.
That is not to say wealthy American can’t pay more in taxes, and raising the tax rate on carried-interest that disproportionately benefits the select few goes to the top of the list.
But that doesn’t negate the reality that Democrats will eventually need to go where the real money is. And when they do, Americans should expect the definition of who’s “rich” to be considerably expanded.

In the interview, published Thursday, the senator said the report would be out in “a matter of weeks.” However, he predicted in August that the report would be out in September. “I’m not going to tell you that what we set out to do — which was to understand what happened in ’16 — is what’s extended the life of the investigation,” Burr said. “I think it’s a better understanding of what happened and how coordinated and organized the effort was.” And from the sound of things, the committee has found significant election interference. What it hasn’t found, however, is that rascally Russian collusion. “If we write a report based upon the facts that we have, then we don’t have anything that would suggest there was collusion by the Trump campaign and Russia,” Burr said. In a Fox News appearance back in September, Burr had already said that the committee had found no “hard evidence” of such collusion. If a Pennsylvania state trooper pulls a car over for a traffic violation, that officer can no longer ask for identification solely to check on the suspect’s immigration status. In fact, troopers are barred from arresting any foreign national for simply being an illegal immigrant. If a trooper does arrest an immigrant, law enforcement is required to inform the suspect of their right to contact the consulate of their home government. Troopers must also now file a comprehensive report about any interaction they have with an immigrant, detailing the reasons for their interaction or detention. The rule is meant to track any patterns of racial profiling by the officer... This is a stupid law..

On Wednesday, House Intelligence Committee Chairman scumbag-Adam Schiff launched a new probe into the president’s foreign business relationships and if those are affecting U.S. foreign policy. “He has no basis to do that,” Trump retorted. “He’s just a political hack who’s trying to build a name for himself. It’s just presidential harassment and it’s unfortunate and it really does hurt our country.” The Hill also reports, “The House Intelligence Committee on Wednesday voted to give special counsel dirty cop-Robert Mueller transcripts from dozens of witness interviews from the panel’s Russia probe.”
Meanwhile, on the House Ways and Means subcommittee docket today: examining the disclosure of presidential tax returns — a move clearly meant as a shot across the bow for Trump’s decision to withhold his own returns.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck scumbag-Schumer taunted the president, saying, “He’s scared. He’s got something to hide. Because if he had nothing to hide he’d just shrug his shoulders and let these investigations go forward.”

Lower Courts Obstruct Trump at Unprecedented Rateby Political Editors: Lower federal courts have issued injunctions blocking President Donald Trump’s executive actions a record 30 times. “That number,” The Daily Signal reports, matches “the total for the first 42 of the 45 presidents so far in American history.” We knew judicial activism was a problem, but that’s astounding.
The majority of the injunctions, the Signal explains, were “against Trump administration policies providing extreme vetting of immigrants from countries deemed to be failed states; denying funding to sanctuary cities that won’t cooperate with federal law enforcement on immigration law; and tightening the asylum process for illegal immigrants, among other issues.” In other words, policies that aren’t exactly conventional.
To make matters worse, these injunctions weren’t merely regional in scope but national. Not surprisingly, the source for most of the injunctions came from judges sitting on some the country’s most left-leaning courts, such as the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. Prior to 1963, no lower court had ever issued national injunctions, and it wasn’t until the 1980s that nationwide injunctions began to become more common.
In fact, Barack scumbag/liar-nObama’s Justice Department pushed back against the practice, arguing, “A trial court abuses its discretion by fashioning an injunction, which is overly broad.” And last year, House Republicans proposed the Injunctive Authority Clarification Act, which would have put limits on nationwide injunctions, confining the rulings for the most part to the district over which the court presides, but it was never voted on.
Back in 2016, Justice Samuel Alito noted the obvious problem with lower courts being empowered to issue nationwide injunctions, writing that it “invites the loser to seek to obtain in court what they could not achieve in the political arena.” Precisely. What we have witnessed through the first two years of Trump’s presidency attests to the reality of this problem.
Michael Morley, an assistant professor at Florida State University College of Law, points out, “All it take is a single litigant anywhere in the nation to win one time, and then they are able to obtain effectively nationwide relief enforcing the rights of all people throughout the nation. So, you have a fundamental asymmetry where the government has to win everywhere, whereas to have a policy or a regulation or an order invalidated, a challenger only has to win once.”
One thing is certain — the more lower courts continue to issue nationwide injunctions against Trump, the more the pressure grows for legislation to be passed that prevents this abuse. ~The Patriot Post

Following the initial revelation of Gov. Ralph Northam’s racist 1984 yearbook photograph and that in another yearbook he was known by the nickname “Coonman,” Democrats across the country were quick to call for his resignation. Many assumed Democrats were in the perfect position to prove their party’s commitment to “social justice.” However, almost immediately following Northam’s controversy, Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax found himself knee-deep in his own scandal, this time over allegations of sexual assault. His accuser has released a detailed statement of her accusations. Suddenly, with Virginia’s top two Democrats facing growing pressure to resign, the question of succession was raised. According to the Commonwealth’s Constitution, should both Northam and Fairfax resign, the office of the governorship would fall to Democrat Attorney General Mark Herring.
For Democrats, should that worst-case scenario unfold, it would be painful, but at least a Republican wouldn’t take over. Or at least that was the thinking until Wednesday afternoon, when AG Herring admitted that he too had dressed in blackface once in 1980 when he was in college. Cue the outrage posse.
Suddenly, Virginia’s top three Democrats are all damaged goods — two racists and a sex offender. Ironically, one of the Democrats who had called for Northam’s resignation was none other than Herring, who stated on Saturday, “It is no longer possible for Governor Northam to lead our Commonwealth and it is time for him to step down. I have spoken with Lieutenant Governor Fairfax and assured him that, should he ascend to the governorship, he will have my complete support and commitment to ensuring his success and the success of our Commonwealth." So, if Herring does not resign for the same "crime,” would he not be outing himself as a total hypocrite and political opportunist?
And, to rub a little salt in the Democrats’ wound, guess who’s in line for the governorship should all three Democrats resign — Virginia House Speaker Kirk Cox, a Republican.
National Review’s Jim Geraghty writes, “One under-discussed aspect of these revelations is that for once, we know that it’s unlikely that they’re being leaked by Republicans; if the GOP had this information, they would have used it during the 2017 campaigns. No, what’s much more likely is that Northam, Fairfax, and Herring or allies of the three men are leaking them against each other. Virginia’s term limit for governors means that the state is never more than four years away from an open seatand, considering the state’s rapidly changing demographics, if you win the Democratic nomination, the odds are no worse than 50-50 that you win. There are a lot of ambitious Virginia Democrats with sharp elbows.”

By the time the FAA halted flights at three important airports in the Northeast, Trump's hand had disappeared. He agreed to reopen the government with no wall money until February 15. Pulosi won this round. But she also made an error: delaying the State of the Union until after the government reopened. Maybe it seemed like a clever move at the time. However, by eventually agreeing to her demand, Trump was allowed to deliver his annual address after the fallout from the shutdown had dissipated. Had he given the speech in the midst of furloughs, the content would have been lost amongst stories of hard-hit public employees. Social 'Justice' Is Unforgivingby Culture Beat: The “new morality” of the Left has little room for mercy and none for forgiveness. Any indiscretion of its hallowed and ever-evolving “morality,” no matter how far back in the past it may have occurred, is met only with howls of rage by a “woke” mob demanding its pound of flesh. This new morality finds no virtue in honesty or the self-disclosure of one’s past “indiscretions”; instead, any wrong-think is greeted by demands that the individual be destroyed as a lesson to anyone else, lest they dare venture outside the realm of leftist dogma.
Case in point: The recent admission by actor Liam Neeson that he once entertained racist animosity in his past when he learned that a family member had been raped by a black man. Neeson explained, “I went up and down areas with a cosh [billy club], hoping I’d be approached by somebody — I’m ashamed to say that — and I did it for maybe a week, hoping some [in air quotes] ‘black bastard’ would come out of a pub and have a go at me about something, you know? So that I could … kill him.”
Neeson also expressed remorse and regret for his racist thoughts and actions: “It was horrible, horrible, when I think back, that I did that. And I’ve never admitted that, and I’m saying it to a journalist. God forbid. It’s awful. But I did learn a lesson from it, when I eventually thought, ‘What the f— are you doing,’ you know?”
Instead of receiving commendations for being honest about the ugliness of his past racist thoughts — and expressing sorrow for it — social media instead piled on Neeson for being a racist. It is the “unforgivable” sin, after all. There was no consideration for Neeson expressing that he used to think one way and saw the error of it and changed. Nope, it’s too late — once a racist, always a racist.
And this same judgmental mindset is being applied across all intersectional “victim” classes. For example, this year’s Academy Awards show will be host-less after actor and comedian Kevin Hart stepped down from hosting following blowback he received over disparaging comments he had made about homosexuality in the past. Hart noted that he had repeatedly apologized for his past comments, writing, “if u want to search my history or past and anger yourselves with what u find that is fine with me. I’m almost 40 years old and I’m in love with the man that I am becoming. If you want to hold people in a position where they always have to justify or explain their past then… I’m the wrong guy, man.”
As are millions upon millions of Americans. Nothing less than perpetual apologizing and groveling will be accepted by the “social justice warriors” — and even then one’s past cannot be truly forgiven.

Strangely, “The Louisiana law is virtually identical to a Texas measure the justices struck down three years ago by a 5-3 vote, shortly after the death of Justice Antonin Scalia. “House Democrats have twice refused now to take up the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act for consideration. The measure is ‘designed to ensure any infant born alive after an abortion receives the same protection of law as any newborn: mandating care and instituting penalties for doctors who allow such infants to die or who intentionally kill a newborn,’ according to a statement from the office of its sponsor Rep. Meanwhile, “Massachusetts Democrats have taken a page from New York’s radical left and are pushing a bill to legalize abortion at any time during the pregnancy,” Townhall also reports. “The bill … would get rid of the ‘grave impairment’ language so that an abortion could take place after 24 weeks if the pregnancy risks ‘her physical or mental health, or in cases of lethal fetal anomalies, or where the fetus is incompatible with sustained life outside the womb.’” Of course, “physical or mental health” is an ambiguous term intended to permit abortion on demand.

On Tuesday, Sen. Amy Klobuchar intimated, “I’m making a big announcement on Sunday.” But according to The Daily Signal, Klobuchar’s intention “to announce a possible presidential campaign this weekend … may have to wait after a report emerged Wednesday night alleging Klobuchar is cruel and potentially abusive to her staff.” At least three campaign-manager prospects have reportedly backed out, all of whom cited the senator’s propensity for belligerent behavior.

Richard Burr told CBS News. “If I can finish tomorrow, I would finish tomorrow,” said Burr, adding, “We know we’re getting to the bottom of the barrel because there’re not new questions that we’re searching for answers to.” The Senate panel has conducted more than 200 witness interviews and reviewed hundreds of thousands of documents as part of an investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election. New York's Budget Rendezvous With SALT Deductionsby Jordan Candler: In November 2017, Andrew evil-Cuomo was just one of the many Democrats already denouncing the soon-to-be-passed Republican tax reform. The New York governor fumed, “I’ve said repeatedly the more people learn about this tax plan, the more they’re going to learn that it’s wrong for New York. I’ve also said that they’re playing New Yorkers for fools and New Yorkers are not fools.”
Actually, New York is playing us for fools.
evil-Cuomo complained specifically about the tax reform’s modification to SALT (state and local tax) deductions. He stated, “In the tax reform plan, they end the mortgage-interest deduction for homes over $500,000. Now, $500,000 is an expensive home, but those homes are in states like the State of New York and the State of California. They limit property tax and their compromise. They limit property-tax deductions over $10,000. A lot of states don’t have property taxes over $10,000. The State of New York … [has] many homes that pay property taxes over $10,000.” That doesn’t sound like a federal concern.
Like others, the governor was prescient in anticipating future budgetary problems. But that’s wholly a function of the Democrats’ wrongheaded handling of taxpayer money.
This week, evil-Cuomo revealed that New York has a revenue shortfall of $2.3 billion. According to him, “[Capping] SALT was an economic civil war. It literally restructured the economy to help red states at the cost of blue states. That’s exactly what it did. It was a diabolical, political maneuver.” (Sidebar: In reality, a diabolical maneuver is evil-Cuomo’s “directing that New York’s landmarks be lit in pink to celebrate” late-term abortions.)
In fact, the opposite is true. The way SALT deductions worked before is that lower-middle-class taxpayers, for whom SALT deductions are less accommodating, were significantly subsidizing upper-middle-class taxpayers who had the luxury of using SALT for write-offs. In other words, the tax obligations of higher earners were lessened by virtue of the fact their hefty deductions were being underwritten by people with less income.
Or as the Washington’s Examiner’s Tiana Lowe puts it, “Curbing the SALT deduction merely requires wealthier New Yorkers to foot the bill for their own recklessly high taxes rather than offload the cost of their profligacy onto other states.”
Yes, changing the SALT rules meant some states would take a big revenue hit. But reversing this wasn’t a “political maneuver.” Instead, it balanced an extremely lopsided playing field. Despite evil-Cuomo’s assertion that “it’s wrong for New York,” the change was good for most of the nation.
evil-Cuomo simply doesn’t want to accept the more levelheaded, tried-and-true financial approach seen in conservative states. He also literally can’t accept that tax reform worked. According to The Wall Street Journal, “Last week the Congressional Budget Office released a 10-year forecast — the first to assess the effects of tax reform after one year of hard results. Compared with its prereform projection, the CBO now expects annual GDP growth to be almost $750 billion higher by 2027, the last year of its prior forecast. A strong case can be made that tax reform played a predominant role in accelerating GDP growth.”
Just because Gov. evil-Cuomo is salty over Republican tax reform doesn’t mean he’s right to malign fiscal conservatives. And if spending cuts are the solution to balancing his state’s budget, so be it. evil-Cuomo wailed, “God forbid if the rich leave.” That’s entirely within his power to control.

Not-So-White Lieby Nate Jackson: Democrat presidential candidate Elizabeth dinky-Warren has apologized for falsely claiming Native American ancestry. Of course, she waited until just a few hours before Donald Trump’s State of the Union so that tidbit would be buried under coverage of that event. Last week, she quietly gave a private mea culpa to the chief of the Cherokee Nation after her pathetic DNA test stunt last fall revealed she was possibly approximately 1/1024th Native American. So why bring it up again this week?
The Washington Post, of all places, obtained via a Freedom of Information Act request a 1986 registration card for the Texas Bar Association on which Warren listed her race as “American Indian.” The Post reports, “Dated April 1986, it is the first document to surface showing Warren making the claim in her own handwriting. Her office didn’t dispute its authenticity.”
“I can’t go back,” dinky-Warren told the Post. “But I am sorry for furthering confusion on tribal sovereignty and tribal citizenship and harm that resulted.”
Clearly, she’s hoping this controversy will be a distant memory by the time the 2020 primaries kick off. Her fellow Democrats may leave the issue alone given their convoluted handling of “identity” issues, but voters may not be so forgiving. Trump would love to square off against “Pocahontas” in the presidential election, but her viability just took a huge hit.

Trump Critics Admit Success of Association Health Plansby Louis DeBroux: It seems at every turn, President Donald Trump’s shrillest critics are being forced to eat crow. He was widely mocked during his campaign in 2016, with virtually every pundit declaring he had almost no chance of beating scumbag/liar-Hillary Clinton … until he did. Critics claimed GOP tax reform would damage the economy; instead, it unleashed massive economic growth and job creation. They said taking a bombastic, hardline stance with North Korean tyrant and Chinese puppet Kim Jong-un would lead to nuclear war; instead, it brought the diminutive dictator to the negotiating table.
And this past summer, when President Trump rolled out new rules allowing individuals, the self-employed, and small businesses to band together and purchase health insurance across state lines, in what he called “association health plans” (AHPs), his critics again scoffed and attacked.
In reality, The Wall Street Journal described the concept for AHPs as proposed by the Health Policy Consensus Group, a conservative coalition of policy experts that included The Heritage Foundation, American Enterprise Institute, Galen Institute and the Manhattan Institute. The idea was to “drive control of health care almost entirely to the states, reversing [scumbag/liar-nObamaCare’s] federal mandates that seek to provide basic minimum benefits and consumer protections, which Republicans argue limit people’s choice. … Under the conservative plan, states would receive ACA money in the form of block grants to help low-income consumers buy coverage. Health savings accounts, which let people set aside tax-free money for medical expenses, would be expanded. Insurers could give discounts to people who are young or maintain continuous coverage.”
Democrats mocked the plans as “junk insurance,” and one Leftmedia outlet called it a “flop.”
Andy Slavitt, the man responsible for implementing scumbag/liar-nObamaCare, was blunt in his denunciation, declaring, “Association health plans are not the solution to any problem Americans have. They won’t make drugs more affordable, they won’t help Americans get health care they need. … When [association health plan members] finally do get sick, they find out what isn’t covered at exactly the wrong time and [then] coverage is more expensive and unavailable. … That’s why 95% of doctors, patient groups, and insurers say it’s a bad idea.”
So … what kind of wine goes best with crow?
As it turns out, the association health plans have been so successful that even the Trump-hating Washington Post conceded this Trump victory.
The Post’s assistant editor, Robert Gebelhoff, wrote, “It’s time to acknowledge that critics may have misjudged one of the Trump administration’s signature health-care policies — ‘bigly.’ … New reports suggest that much of that fear might be overblown — at least for the time being. As The Washington Post’s health policy guru Paige Winfield Cunningham laid out this week, more than two dozen association health plans have been developed since the administration issued its new rule, and so far they don’t look nearly as skimpy as experts predicted.”

Cunningham elaborates on the “shocking” success, noting, “Chambers of commerce and trade associations have launched more than two dozen of these ‘association health plans’ in 13 states in the seven months since the Labor Department finalized new rules. … And there are initial signs the plans are offering generous benefits and premiums lower than can be found in the scumbag/liar-nObamacare marketplaces.”
Cunningham continues, “When it comes to these new association health plans, they appear — at least so far — to offer benefits comparable to most workplace plans and haven’t tried to discriminate against patients with preexisting conditions.” She also notes that Land O'Lakes, a farm cooperative that participated in the AHPs, serving farmers in Nebraska and Minnesota, reports savings of 25-35% over plans in the scumbag/liar-nObamaCare ACA marketplace.
Gebelhoff also reported the findings of the Congressional Budget Office, which predicts significant health coverage gains due to the AHPs, so much so that “an estimated 5 million people will enroll in either a short-term plan or an association health plan every year over the next decade, including more than 1 million people annually who were previously uninsured.”
Gebelhoff concluded by admitting, “So far, it seems these plans could work exactly as his administration promised: By helping offer coverage options for middle-income families who are making too much to qualify for federal ACA subsidies but are still struggling to afford premiums.”
The bane of conservative policies is that they sound harsh or uncompassionate, but the benefit is that they promote freedom and expand prosperity.
“Progressive” policies have the opposite problem. While sounding idealistic and compassionate in theory, in practice they crush the individual under the power of an unmerciful state while spreading poverty and misery to all but those holding the reins of power. To any who doubt that, read up on stories of people eating rats and dogs to keep from starving in the socialist utopia of Venezuela.
With the wonderful success of association health plans, hopefully Americans will reject the leftist propaganda they’ve been fed and allow the free market to bring these same types of successes to education and Social Security. ~The Patriot Post

Dems SOTU Rebuttal Offers Only Socialismby Thomas Gallatin: To give their rebuttal to President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address, Democrats chose Stacey Abrams, the former Georgia gubernatorial candidate and salacious romance novelist. Abrams lost the governor’s race and then launched a drawn-out attempt to trigger a second election by leveling spurious claims of voter suppression. She was equally lost last night in cognitive dissonance regarding the reality of the nation’s booming economy and its demonstrably positive impact upon millions of Americans across the socioeconomic spectrum, but especially in the middle class.
Abrams falsely asserted, “The Republican tax bill rigged the system against working people. Rather than bringing back jobs, plants are closing, layoffs are looming and wages struggle to keep pace with the actual cost of living.” News flash: This is 2019, not 2009. It’s not a social-media 10-year challenge.
Abrams also blasted Trump’s commitment to border security and stemming the tide of illegal immigration. She insisted that “compassionate treatment at the border is not the same as open borders,” while claiming that “Democrats stand ready to effectively secure our ports and borders” — just “not walls.” Never mind the fact that Abrams is an activist and advocate for noncitizen voting rights.
To put it bluntly, Abrams’s speech was little more than a Democrat campaign ad. All it revealed was just how extreme the Democrat agenda has become. Issues that all Americans were once united on — such as border security, the benefits of a capitalistic free-market economy, and the danger posed by socialism to Americans’ Liberty and individual rights — are now the issues Democrats are using to divide the country.
Increasingly, the only answers Democrats offer voters is Big Government socialism and division based on “identity.” That was all Abrams had to offer. And isn’t it ironic that Democrats tapped a losing candidate to offer a socialist vision that has failed everywhere it has been implemented? But at least Abrams looked better than those two wax figures who responded to Trump’s immigration remarks a few weeks back… ~The Patriot Post

{freebeacon.com} ~ Democrats are reigniting a decade-long push for a constitutionally dubious workaround to the Electoral College, with the most ambitious efforts coming in two western states... in which the left gained the political "trifecta" of owning the governor's seat and both chambers of the state legislature after the 2018 elections. The National Popular Vote Interstate Compact, or NPV, creates an agreement by all states that have entered into it, whereby their Electoral College votes are cast for the candidate who wins the most individual votes nationwide, not who wins the most in that state. Central to the compact is the legal trigger that it would not take effect until the number of Electoral College votes of all the states entered in surpasses 270, the key number required to win the presidency. With 11 states and the District of Columbia agreeing to participate, the NPV Electoral College vote tally stands at 172. For example, if Idaho had been in the compact in 2016, and if the compact were in force, the state's four Electoral College votes would have been cast for scumbag/liar-Hillary Clinton even though Donald Trump beat her by more than a two-to-one margin there, because scumbag/liar-Clinton won more votes nationwide. Idaho is one state where NPV legislation is pending this year, but the compact has no chance of advancing there because the state currently has a Republican trifecta, and Republicans nationwide have been united in opposition to the NPV....

The group, representing Christian, Muslim, Taiwanese, and Tibetan communities in China, came together for an event at the Heritage Foundation titled, "Evaluating Threats to Religious Freedom in China." Walter Lohman, director of the think tank's Asian Studies Center, moderated the event, during which each panelist described a drastic increase in persecution by the Chinese Communist Party since last year. Dr. Bob "Xiqiu" Fu, the president and founder of ChinaAid, described 2018 as a disastrous year for Chinese civil rights. According to Fu, it marked the "worst year for human rights, freedom of press, freedom of association" since 1967 and the Cultural Revolution. Despite Article 36 of the Chinese constitution guaranteeing religious liberty, the law restricts "hosting large-scale religious activities" or "distributing religious materials." Children, military members, and Communist Party members may not attend religious services. In 2018, ChinaAid documented 10,000 individual cases of state persecution against Christians, Fu said, a 36-fold increase from 2017....
California Defies the Law of Economics

{spectator.org} ~ The California Capitol isn’t known for much solid economic thinking, but sometimes lawmakers outdo the already low expectations with their wacky ideas... For instance, 19 Democratic legislators asked that Attorney General Xavier Becerra investigate the state’s exorbitantly high gas prices. “There are a number of indications that the state’s gasoline market lacks robust competition and that Californians are consequentially paying a steeper price, beyond what can otherwise be accounted for, compared to residents of other states,” they wrote in a recent letter. You don’t say. Perhaps the special state-mandated gasoline blend caused the lack of competition because it dramatically reduces the number of refineries that produce gasoline for sale in the state. Another reason our gas prices are higher than in other state is we pay the second-highest gasoline taxes in the nation. Legislators — including most of the ones who signed the letter — raised those taxes again last year. Then there are cap-and-trade surcharges to deal with global warming and the state fee to clean up sites polluted by the ingredient in an old state-mandated formulation. The gas prices still are too high, the legislators explained, even after considering all those factors because of something that UC Berkeley professor Severin Borenstein refers to as a “mystery surcharge.” It doesn’t seem like a surcharge, but merely is the amount of the higher cost that the state Petroleum Market Advisory Committee chaired by that professor cannot account for. I know that markets can be confounding things to regulators, but this strikes me as unusually silly. State officials can investigate gas prices all they want, but it is clear that lawmakers prefer to deflect from the main reasons prices are too high while they search for a phantom culprit. It’s a little too reminiscent of Inspector Renault’s call to round up the usual suspects in Casablanca. The 2019 SOTU Review:
A Trump Administration Triumphby Mark Alexander and Nate Jackson: Today is Ronald Reagan’s birthday. In the years since his presidency, through the Bush (41), Clinton, Bush (43), and scumbag/liar-nObama years, analyzing State of the Union addresses has been more about endurance than inspiration.
But, surprisingly, that changed last year with Donald Trump’s first address, “Our New American Moment.” His second address last night was even better than the first. These SOTUs did not follow the worn template of providing a wish list, but instead were a running recap of administration and congressional successes over the last two years.
In both instances, President Trump’s remarks strongly contrasted the difference in Republican optimism and Democrat pessimism — Republican advocacy for Libertyand self-reliance versus Democrats’ advocacy for dependence, statism, and now unapologetic socialism based on their failed policies of the past.
We concluded years ago that the Democrat Party was not one of the oppressed but of the depressed. And that deranged institutional depression has become epidemic.
Again in his latest SOTU, Trump instilled pride in who we are as a nation. It was framed by unity rather than partisanship. “Victory is not winning for our party,” he declared. “Victory is winning for our country.” He began and ended his address with calls for unity and he highlighted numerous areas that should enlist universal agreement, largely about America’s promise and historical achievements. There were several issues in the middle of his speech that should unify Americans, especially the Trump administration’s strong economic record. But the Democrats would have no part in a call for unity.
Trump opened, saying, “Members of Congress, the state of our union is strong.” Yet over his shoulder, Nancy “Sourpuss” Pulosi shook her head. Clearly, good news is bad news for Democrats, whose best political hope is to drive the nation into recession before 2020.
Americans may disagree on how to achieve border security and an orderly legal immigration process, but we should all be able to agree that caravans of migrants should not be free to cross our border.
Trump noted, “In the past, most of the people in this room voted for a wall — but the proper wall never got built. I will get it built.” He completely shifted the immigration debate to protecting American jobs and people.
Trump declared, “Here, in the United States, we are alarmed by new calls to adopt socialism in our country. We are born free, and we will stay free. Tonight, we renew our resolve that America will never be a socialist country.” That shouldn’t be controversial, although socialist Sen. commie-Bernie Sanders and other socialist Democrats looked like they were suffering heart failure.
Record-low unemployment — especially for black and Hispanic Americans — rising wages across the board, and an overall strong economy are not partisan issues; they are facts. Yet in each instance when we should all agree, many if not most Democrats sat on their hands rather than applauding. However, Trump did get almost the entire room chanting “USA, USA” after mentioning the stats on the number of women now in the workforce.
People may not see eye to eye on when abortion is appropriate — there’s not much common ground between “never” and “most of the time.” But it should be beyond dispute to say that children should not be killed at the moment of or even after birth.
“Let us work together to build a culture that cherishes innocent life,” Trump said. “And let us reaffirm a fundamental truth: All children — born and unborn — are made in the holy image of God.”
Notably, Trump did receive almost unanimous approval for what we believe was the best gathering of gallery guests in any State of the Union.
Trump concluded, “We must choose whether we are defined by our differences — or whether we dare to transcend them. We must choose whether we squander our inheritance — or whether we proudly declare that we are Americans: we do the incredible, we defy the impossible, we conquer the unknown. We must choose between greatness or gridlock, results or resistance, vision or vengeance, incredible progress or pointless destruction. Tonight, I ask you to choose greatness.”
We rate this high among the best modern-day SOTUs, and many who viewed it agree. The Leftmedia network CBS reluctantly reported its findings regarding public approval of Trump’s State of the Union: 76% of those watching the speech approved, including a 30% approval rating among Democrats and 82% among Independents. Notably, 72% approved of his immigration plan. (We hope Trump will not derail the success of this SOTU, as is his penchant, with some petulant, dis-unifying social-media post.)
Of course, chief among those not approving were Pelosi and DNC Chairman Tom Perez.
For her part, Pulosi concluded: “It will take days to fact-check all the misrepresentations that the president made tonight. Instead of fearmongering and manufacturing a crisis at the border, President Trump should commit to signing the bipartisan conference committee’s bill to keep government open and provide strong, smart border security solutions. … President Trump must now take concrete steps to work with Democrats to strengthen the health and economic security of families across America. After two years of the president’s empty words, the American people deserve real results.”
Actually, this is a fine example of Pulosi’s “alternate universe” perspective. The Trump administration and Republican Congress have clearly strengthened “the health and economic security of families across America” and, demonstrably, the American people are experiencing “real results.”
And for those watching the SOTU, there is now a consistent Pulosi poker tell — when she knows Trump has succeeded where Democrats have failed, she starts doing that smirk thing, as if trying to get the spinach out of her teeth. The Demo/MSM machine was certainly consumed with what it claimed was a teenager’s smirk two weeks ago — but not a word on Pulosi’s smirk, and all the others on the left side of the room last night.
Predictably, according to Perez: “After attending Trump’s State of the Union tonight, I know this for certain: The only way that we will be able to stop his outrageous, divisive agenda is by taking back the Senate and putting a Democrat in the White House in 2020. I am going to fight like hell to make sure we’re building the infrastructure necessary to continue to elect Democrats up and down the ballot in the months and years ahead.”
The bottom line: There will be no unity in the next two years, because Democrats and their Leftmedia publicists thrive on division and partisanship, the antithesis of unity. They have reconstructed their political platform on a “Hate Trump” foundation, rejecting Rule of Law, the most basic tenets of morality, and America’s First Principles.

I can think of other, more accurate, names — like the “First Amendment Demolition Act,” or perhaps the “Federalism Repeal Act,” or maybe, most accurate of all, the “Constitutional Lawyers Enrichment Act,” because the passage of the law would trigger a full decade at least of litigation on numerous constitutional fronts. At its essence, the bill federalizes control over elections to an unprecedented scale, expands government power over political speech, mandates increased disclosures of private citizens’ personal information down to name and address, places conditions on citizen contact with legislators that inhibits citizens’ freedom of expression, and then places enforcement of most of these measures in the hands of a revamped Federal Election Commission that is far more responsive to presidential influence. The bill is too long and complex to analyze in its entirety in one essay, but let’s pull out a few components. The bill contains a section misleadingly entitled “Stopping Super PAC-Candidate Coordination” that dramatically expands government regulation of political speech and contact with candidates for public office. These provisions not only work to flatly prohibit constitutionally protected speech, but their sheer scope would also chill a considerable amount of protected speech as law-abiding citizens try to steer clear of violating broad and vague laws...Trump goes big, uses delayed State of

Homosexuals Reject 'Transgender' Claimby Culture Beat: Some members of the homosexual lobby are beginning to ring the warning bells concerning the growing threat posed by “transgender” ideology. In a recent article published in New York Magazine, Andrew Sullivan, a journalist who is himself homosexual, argues that there are obvious problems with the leftist proposal to expand the 1964 Civil Rights Act to include protections for “transgender” persons. Sullivan notes that the proposal would redefine “sex” to include “gender identity” and defines it as “gender-related identity, appearance, mannerisms, or characteristics, regardless of the individual’s designated sex at birth.” In other words, the biology-based definition of sex would be thrown out in favor of a socially constructed self-definition paradigm, irrespective of biology. Sullivan pointedly observes the cultural conundrum such a redefinition would create:
And the truth is that many lesbians and gay men are quite attached to the concept of sex as a natural, biological, material thing. Yes, we are very well aware that sex can be expressed in many different ways. A drag queen and a rugby player are both biologically men, with different expressions of gender. Indeed, a drag queen can also be a rugby player and express his gender identity in a variety of ways, depending on time and place. But he is still a man. And gay men are defined by our attraction to our own biological sex. We are men and attracted to other men. If the concept of a man is deconstructed, so that someone without a penis is a man, then homosexuality itself is deconstructed. Transgender people pose no threat to us, and the vast majority of gay men and lesbians wholeheartedly support protections for transgender people. But transgenderist ideology — including postmodern conceptions of sex and gender — is indeed a threat to homosexuality, because it is a threat to biological sex as a concept.
And so it is not transphobic for a gay man not to be attracted to a trans man. It is close to definitional. The core of the traditional gay claim is that there is indeed a very big difference between male and female, that the difference matters, and without it, homosexuality would make no sense at all. If it’s all a free and fluid nonbinary choice of gender and sexual partners, a choice to have sex exclusively with the same sex would not be an expression of our identity, but a form of sexist bigotry, would it not?
As Mark Alexander wrote in “The Gender Deniers,” “There is no such thing as ‘transgendered,’ and the word itself constitutes an egregious deception. A gender-disoriented person may ‘identify’ as the other gender, but they will always be the same gender they were at conception. The notion of so-called ‘gender reassignment’ is equally fallacious.”
Thus, to hear Sullivan come to virtually the same conclusion is another marker on the road as the homosexual lobby tries to figure out what to do with the “transgendered” lobby. It is not compatible. ~The Patriot Post
