Welcome to my column. If I sound a bit out of sorts, a bit like I stayed up till 5 this morning, it’s because I am, and I did.

A guy thinks he knows his state, right? Thinks that after living there for 60 years, traveling it from side to side and top to bottom, seemingly getting to know its people like he knows himself, he thinks he knows his state. And he considers himself to be a reasonably astute political observer, so on August 5, he tells his readers to rejoice, to pump their fists, because a Jew-hating Muslim Democrat Socialist named Abdulrahman Mohamed El-Sayed had just barely limped home to win the Michigan Senate Democrat primary, and because that meant that the Senate would stay in Republican hands. Why? Because, well, I’ll let my words speak for themselves:

Folks, we got our wish. As I stressed the other day, Michigan isn’t going to elect a Muslim senator — especially not one who ran on Jew-hatred, and especially not if there’s a decent alternative. And Republican Mike Rogers is a decent alternative.

And then last night happened. Talk about a prediction that didn’t age well.

Oh, sure, we all figured the House would most likely go to the Democrats, given the history of midterm elections and given the Republicans’ razor-thin margin in the lower chamber. But the Senate? With Republicans up 53-47 and with a comparatively friendly slate of races? And with a Jew-hating Muslim Democrat Socialist running to protect a Democrat-held seat in Michigan, a state that Trump won twice? No way the Democrats take the Senate. No. Way.

I knew it was going to be a bad night relatively early on, when Democrat Annie Andrews kept leading Lindsey Graham’s sister in deep-red South Carolina’s Senate race. Uh-oh, I thought. And when Florida’s incumbent Republican senator, a smart and unobjectionable former attorney general named Ashley Moody, had to come from behind to eke out a narrow win against a dim-bulb Democrat socialist named Angie Nixon, I knew. I knew.

Here amid the wreckage of the Tuesday Night Massacre, it’s hard to make sense of the new, near-future political landscape — a landscape in which the Democrats will, on January 3, swear in some 250 House members and as many as 56 senators.

Republican senators got their clocks cleaned everywhere: In Texas, where a six-gender vegan named James Talarico clobbered Attorney General Ken Paxton 55-43; in reliably red Ohio, where 73-year-old leftist retread Sherrod Brown beat youthful incumbent John Husted 50-45; in equally red Iowa, where Josh Turek beat an attractive congresswoman and former TV news reporter named Ashley Hinson 50-46; in Maine, where a loutish Platner replacement named Troy Jackson whipped five-term centrist Republican Susan Collins 53-46; and in Kansas — Kansas! — where a megachurch pastor named Adam Hamilton beat a perfectly suitable incumbent and medical doctor named Roger Marshall 51-46.

Republicans, then, are on the clock. Seriously on the clock. They’ll control both Houses until this strange new Congress is sworn in on January 3, and they’d better make the best of it.

For example, the Supreme Court. In watching some 10 hours of Fox News (yeah, yeah, I know) coverage last night, I don’t remember a single talkinghead mentioning the future of the high court. But I wouldn’t be surprised if either or both of our stalwart conservative Supreme Court justices, Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito, announce their retirements in the weeks ahead, thereby allowing Trump to nominate and seat their replacements while the Republicans still control the Senate.

And if there are any vacancies on the federal bench, Trump had better do everything possible to fill them most ricky-tick. Because looking ahead to the next two Senate cycles, the landscape isn’t favorable to Republicans. Indeed, they’ll likely be in the minority in the Senate for at least the next six years.

In the meantime, what-ifs abound. For example: Could squishy outgoing incumbent Texas Republican Senator John Cornyn have held off the Talarico juggernaut? Who knows. But Trump’s support of Paxton in the Republican primary made that question moot.

And what about Trump’s selection of political novice Darline Graham to fill her brother’s Senate seat in South Carolina, instead of tapping, for example, some rock-ribbed prior-military white male? Again, what if?

Here, though, as elsewhere, let’s remember: The Republicans didn’t lose the Senate by a single battleground seat, or even a pair of hotly contested seats. They got their butts kicked everywhere.

More questions: Was it the Iran war Was it gas and grocery prices? Was it the Democrats’ steady insinuation of corruption within the ruling Republicans? Likely, it was all of the above, and plenty more.

The top two Senate fundraisers in this electoral cycle were, not surprisingly, Talarico in Texas and Jon Ossoff in the once-red state of Georgia, which not only reelected the inheritance welfare leftist by a whopping 19 points but also elected our nation’s first black woman governor, former Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms, by a solid 54-46 margin. Ossoff thus becomes The It Guy, the guy who Democrats will be whispering about as a strong potential presidential candidate in 2028. Unless the murmurs for Bottoms put her on top. She was, after all, on Joe Biden’s VP shortlist before he made the fateful decision to go with Kamala Harris.

Speaking of firsts, though, let’s remember that Republicans also clawed out a bit of history yesterday, as The Free State of Florida elected its first black governor, Congressman Byron Donalds. So there’s that.

Let’s stop right here, shall we? I’d rather remember a single bright spot amid all the wreckage. I’d rather remember Byron Donalds’s resolute and victorious face than that arrogant mug of Abdulrahman Mohamed El-Sayed — the guy who I said couldn’t possibly be elected statewide in Michigan.

Dear Mr. President,

The battle of 2026 may have ended in “bloodshed” but the war for the soul of America continues. You sir, still have the responsibility to ensure the preservation and protection of our constitution. Below are some ideas as you awaken and examine the aftermath of yesterday’s massacre (there is no other way to describe it).

Overcoming failure in battle requires accepting responsibility, analyzing the root cause(s), and shifting one’s focus from the setback itself to your next immediate response.

In the U.S. military we use to follow a disciplined “lessons learned” process. We called it the AAR (After Action Review). The AAR is designed to make us better. Take it to heart. The AAR, if done correctly is an honest, if not brutal, assessment of what happened, how did it happen, and what can be done to fix it in the future.

First, we must understand the following strategies to overcome defeat:

1. Acknowledge and Own the Failure: Stop shifting blame or masking the reality of what happened; digest the failure directly so you can use it as fuel to move out smartly into the future.
   Change the Formula: Failure with a proper response can return to success. Understand that the initial loss is not what defines you. Your immediate reaction and adjustments will. Essentially, it’s not that bad things happen to people, businesses, military formations, or even nations; they always do. That is not how you will be defined. How you will be defined is what you do to overcome those bad things.
2. Deconstruct the Root Causes: Evaluate factors like preparation, promises made & not kept, leadership (your own and those in your inner circle), and tactical (on the ground) execution and strategic decision making at the highest levels of your team to include your own. Now is NOT the time to sit and self-loathe nor cry in your corn flakes. Instead of allowing yourself to spiral into a selfish woe is me curled up fetal position, as an American president, you must awaken yourself to awaken the nation. Now is the time for great leadership to arise. Do you have it in you?
   Rely on Your Team (but understand this same core team may be part of the problem): It may be high time to lean on others; your peers, outside supporters, former adversaries, a group of advisors who only want America to succeed (if America succeeds, you succeed). These things need to be said. Most of all, humble yourself quietly before God and pray. Many other great U.S. presidents who faced failure in our storied past did and it seemed to work for them. Find an inner strength and hold yourself accountable first and then you can hold others accountable.
3. Set a Clear Next Objective: Break your path forward into small, manageable tasks or re-aim for a distinct end-state or set of end-states. What got you to where you are today? Why did We The People trust to place you into the highest office in the land (again)? What were our expectations and why were they not met? Consider creating a new set of criteria given the conditions our nation faces (ie., domestic disunity and foreign policy disasters). No need to start from scratch but clearly you must wipe the slate clean in some critical areas then fill them with a renewed sense of energy and urgency.

I’ll finish here. That is enough for now. There is a great deal of work and much sacrifice ahead. The American people are a hopeful lot who want only what is best for our families, our homes, our communities and our country. Start there.

Now is the time to take control of the things only you can control.

An American in service to nation. Out.

President Trump said Tuesday that the Iran war played a role in the midterm election results that saw Republicans lose control of the House and Senate.

“I think people agree with what I’m doing on Iran, but they really probably weren’t willing to do the short-term consequence of paying more for gasoline,” Mr. Trump said in an interview with Fox News that ran almost 30 minutes into Wednesday morning.

“Historically, I think it’s going to be much more important than this evening because you can’t let the No. 1 state sponsor of terror have a nuclear weapon,” he said.

“I think historically I will be judged for having done the right thing, but it gave us an evening that was not that pleasant,” Mr. Trump said with uncharacteristic understatement.

The eight-month war emerged as a major political liability for Republicans, with voters increasingly frustrated by rising gasoline prices, economic uncertainty and the administration’s handling of the conflict.

The war sent energy prices soaring, raising the already high cost of living.

Democrats made the war a central part of their closing argument, accusing Mr. Trump of dragging the country into an expensive confrontation while Americans struggled with the cost of living.

The president had pledged in October that American forces would not launch additional attacks against Iran before the election, citing progress in diplomatic negotiations.

But U.S. forces carried out limited strikes against Iranian targets near the Strait of Hormuz on Monday, just hours before voters headed to the polls. American military officials described the operation as defensive and said it followed Iranian fire against a U.S. aircraft.

Early exit polls suggested Mr. Trump faced significant dissatisfaction among voters, with his approval rating standing at roughly 38%, according to CBS News.

About six in 10 voters said the president was a factor in their House vote, but the overwhelming number of that group said his influence was negative.

The results underscored the extent to which the midterms had become a referendum on his second term and raised questions about the president’s handling of Iran.

We got our teeth kicked in. I was wrong about my 2026 predictions — maybe a bit too lofty — but I didn’t expect the entire Trump coalition to fall apart before my eyes. You’ve heard this morning how bad things were, and they were. So, what’s next? Do we commit seppuku? Stop voting? Or cry? Those aren’t options. 

Our own Larry O’Connor tracked the live results on his show for over five hours, and frankly, he saw what was coming, and it didn’t faze him. We can’t win every election. We’re not an authoritarian society. There will be many times when Democrats have good nights; this is one of them. It was a tsunami that crashed into the GOP, and now we have to rebuild. The Senate will be a real battleground now. We know how bad James Talarico is, and the horrible ideas Annie Andrews is going to bring. We know their playbook. They’ve said it on the campaign trail. We cannot cry or pout right now. It’s time to reload, refix bayonets, and reform because it’s our only option.

Democrats Have Some Horrible Things Planned for Trump Next Year!-Posted on Townhall-By Jeff Charles-On November 4, 2026:

As the dust settles from the midterm elections, Democrats are undoubtedly working on their plans for next year, after they have control of the House and Senate.

But anyone who’s been paying attention won’t need a crystal ball to predict what Democrats will do when they take power. The nation is in for investigations, fiery hearings, and at least one more impeachment attempt against President Donald Trump and possibly members of his cabinet.

Democrats flipped seven Republican Senate seats and about 29 to 32 House seats. Incoming House Oversight Committee Chairman Robert Garcia (CA-42) posted a two-word warning on X: “LAWYER UP.”

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries did not promise a third impeachment attempt in the lead-up to the midterms. But he didn’t rule it out, either.

But now that Democrats will control both chambers of Congress, the prospect of impeachment could be even more dangerous.

Democrats have already filed four impeachment resolutions against Trump after he took office for his second term. All four lawmakers who introduced the resolutions, Reps. Al Green (TX-09), Shri Thanedar (MI-13), Steve Cohen (TN-09) and John Larson (D-CT), lost their primaries or their seats, leaving the resolutions behind as what amounts to a ready-made investigative agenda for the incoming majority.

Trump might not be the only target for impeachment. Back in April, Rep. Yassamin Ansari and eight Democrat cosponsors filed six articles of impeachment against Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. In fact, Jeffries said last month that one of the first things Democrats would do after taking over is run Hegseth out of town.

But there is an important caveat. Even though Democrats will control the House and Senate, removing Trump is far from a foregone conclusion. Convicting the president in the Senate could pose an insurmountable obstacle for Democrats because it would require 67 votes.

Even if Democrats win both uncalled races, they would control only 54 seats. This means 13 Republicans would have to cross the aisle and vote against the president. It’s possible that it could happen, but highly unlikely.

When Democrats aren’t hell-bent on impeaching Trump, they will be launching a series of investigations into the president, his family, and his allies. Garcia’s X post will not be an idle warning.

His Oversight investigation agenda is already on the table: ICE and DHS abuses, corporate corruption, the Epstein files, Trump’s crypto business, and even the financing of Donald Trump Jr.’s wedding. 

Democrats will hold the power to subpoena agencies, compel testimony, and hold televised hearings in both chambers.

Elon Musk will also fall under the microscope — especially when it comes to Starlink’s role in Ukraine and work in the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

Democrat Rep. Jamie Raskin (MD-8) has discussed reviewing the Trump administration’s public contract procedures and the president’s pardons.

Key components of Trump’s agenda will suffer as Democrats oppose his every move. They will try to undo the Medicaid work requirements and SNAP changes in the 2025 tax and spending law. They will seek to revive Obamacare subsidies and roll back tax cuts for high-income Americans.

Getting judicial and executive nominees approved by a Democrat-controlled Senate will also be a significant challenge. The administration reportedly plans to confirm as many nominees as possible before January 3.

There is a silver lining for Republicans, however. Since Trump still occupies the White House, Democrats will have a hard time pushing their agenda, as he wields the veto pen.

Sure, President Trump said he’s open to doing deals with the incoming Democrat majority in the House and Senate. The 2026 midterms were brutal, but Trump is defiant and does have a very important card in his pocket: veto power. It’s going to be tough to watch. For starters, rest assured Democrats will nuke the legislative filibuster and pass whatever they want. It’s what we tried to tell weak sauce John Thune, who now will never pass the Save America Act, a top Trump action item, and let institutional deference and panican GOP members fence-sit until they got wiped out. It’ll take years for us to rebuild our majorities — that’s how deep the Democrats’ gains go. 

He’s willing to duke it out with Democrats, who got elected not because of promises of bipartisan cooperation with the Trump White House. War, impeachment, and gridlock are on the menu. But Trump can and will veto all their stupid ideas (via CBS News):

"We won the Slaughter case and the Slaughter case gives the president tremendous powers that it never had before," Mr. Trump said.

Buckle up. We need to review why and how we got beat, sure. But then it’s back to the trenches. War is upon us.

Abdul El-Sayed Gave His Victory Speech. He Said Something Absolutely Chilling!-Posted on RedState-By Kyle Becker-On November 4, 2026:

Abdulrahman Mohamed El-Sayed defeated Mike Rogers in Michigan's U.S. Senate race Tuesday, becoming the first Muslim elected to the United States Senate.

During his victory speech, the Democrat senator-elect made it clear whom he thought won the election.

His people.

He used Arabic religious expressions, including Inshallah, meaning "God willing," and Alhamdulillah, meaning "Praise be to God." The crowd applauded enthusiastically.

El-Sayed grinned smugly throughout the speech. And why not? He has successfully infiltrated the “liberal” Democrat Party and brought his Islamist extremism with him.

El-Sayed received overwhelming support in Dearborn, Michigan, which has a large Arab American and Muslim population.

According to a November 4 report from The Detroit News, unofficial election results showed 82 percent of Dearborn voters backed El-Sayed, compared with 17 percent for Rogers.

That’s a Bashar al-Assad level of support. The newspaper reported that voters in Dearborn, Dearborn Heights, and Hamtramck, communities with large Muslim populations, turned out in support of El-Sayed.

The chilling thing about all of this is that the Democrat Party is successfully balkanizing America into foreigner-led communities (or communities led by the children of immigrants) whose loyalties are more tribalistic than patriotic.

But there is another thing that is absolutely baffling about this election. Jewish voters even rubber-stamped this Democrat candidate, despite his documented ties to Islamist extremists like Hasan Piker.

According to The Forward, a Mercury Public Affairs survey of 482 Jewish voters conducted October 25–31 found:

• 60 percent supported El-Sayed.
• 36 percent supported Rogers.

Among Michigan Jewish early voters, Abdul El-Sayed underperformed other Democrats by more than 20 points (57% vs. 78% for Jocelyn Benson), with a sizable share splitting their tickets to vote for Republican Mike Rogers while supporting Benson. Interestingly, 92 percent of surveyed Jewish Democrats who rejected El-Sayed cited his positions on Israel and concerns about antisemitism as major reasons.

Were the Jewish voters simply not aware of his antisemitic views? This is like a flock of sheep voting for a wolf for mayor. Dumbfounding.

The controversy also prompted his former Democrat primary opponent, Rep. Haley Stevens, to endorse Rogers shortly before Election Day. It turns out, that wasn’t enough to ward off Democrat voters.

Tribal loyalties override appeals to reason. Republicans better start getting used to this fact of American politics.

But the danger is that the American right starts retaliating with its own version of identity politics. Once the in-group/out-group dynamic of politics starts settling in, it tends to turn ugly. Very ugly. Anyone who lived in the Balkans during the Yugoslav Wars can vouch for that.

The right needs to start finding ways to appeal to in-group candidates who can speak the language of these tribes and appeal to their self-interest. Otherwise, it will continue to lose elections to candidates in the “in-groups,” no matter how bad their ideas are.

Even more importantly, we need to push hard against further immigration, and push harder for assimilation. But expecting foreigners to be "colorblind" and to advocate for meritocracy is increasingly unrealistic. 

Simply repeating phrases like "freedom of opportunity" and "equality under the law" is not persuasive to people who are given the greenlight to discriminate against white Americans.

Take what Texas Democrat Gene Wu said, for example:

"The day the Latino, African American, Asian and other communities realize that they share the same oppressor is the day we start winning," he said. "We have the ability to take over this country and to do what is needed for everyone and to make things fair."

It looks like they just did.

Democrats weren't the only ones celebrating amid shattering defeats for Republicans in the midterm elections — Iranian leaders also took a victory lap Wednesday.

Iran cast the results — where Democrats made gains even in traditional Republican strongholds — as a rejection of President Donald Trump's war and a decisive referendum on the economic toll it took on American voters in the months before the election.

"The process of the US’s collapse has accelerated," Iran’s current Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, posted on an official English language account on X.

"Conscience or the cost of living, Americans said NO TO WAR, and we endorse this message," Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, who has also served as Tehran's chief negotiator in talks with Washington, posted on X.

Khamenei, meanwhile, appeared to signal Iran would dig in its heels rather than negotiate with the U.S.

"The Great Satan [the US] wants the surrender of the Iranian nation. The slightest inclination toward submission would cause the immense capital acquired through the blessings brought by the blood of our martyrs and the sacrifices of the entire Iranian nation to be lost," he wrote in another post on X.

"It would embolden the enemy to launch more wars, and carry out its next acts of aggression."

The declarations came after Democrats seized control of Congress Tuesday night in a political bloodbath for Republicans, delivering a major rebuke to Trump after a campaign dominated by concerns over affordability and the months-long war with Iran that the president repeatedly promised was nearing its end.

When the attacks began earlier this year, Trump said it would last a weeks — maybe a bit over a month. It has now been raging for more than eight months.

Iran was hardly the only issue driving voters to the polls — but the conflict became increasingly intertwined with Americans' economic concerns as the war sent energy prices higher and impacted the costs of gas and most goods.

Polling ahead of Election Day showed deep public dissatisfaction with the Iran conflict.

Trump himself acknowledged after the results came in that Iran "partly" played a role in Republicans' losses, even as he continued to defend his decision to go to war.

Vice President JD Vance was much more blunt, writing in a lengthy X post: "The reason we lost is the war."

"If you'd like to argue it was worth it, that losing the Senate for the next 6 years was worth it, then do so," he continued. "Argue it was a worthwhile cost to pay. Agree or disagree, that's at least honest."

Other voices in Tehran also claimed vindication in the wake of the results.

Iranian Deputy Parliament Speaker Ali Nikzad called the Republican losses the "aftershocks" of what he described as Trump's defeat at the hands of Iran, while a senior official in Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian's office claimed the war and U.S. support for Israel had brought Republicans an historic electoral defeat.

Trump entered the conflict predicting a short war.

In the opening days of Operation Epic Fury, the president repeatedly said the campaign would take roughly four to six weeks and soon declared U.S. forces were running "substantially ahead" of schedule. American and Israeli strikes quickly eliminated senior Iranian military leaders and battered Tehran's military infrastructure.

But the war proved far easier to start than to end.

Iran retaliated by choking commercial traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, the narrow waterway that before the war carried roughly a fifth of the world's oil supply, while launching attacks on energy infrastructure across the Persian Gulf. Shipping through the strait nearly ground to a halt in the early weeks of the conflict, removing millions of barrels of oil from global markets and sending energy prices sharply higher.

Iranian attacks damaged oil and energy facilities in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and elsewhere in the Gulf, further squeezing supplies. By the end of May, more than 1.1 billion barrels of crude that would ordinarily have reached global markets had been disrupted, according to the International Monetary Fund.

What Trump initially described as a matter of weeks instead stretched across much of 2026, as the administration struggled to secure lasting freedom of navigation through Hormuz and Iran retained the ability to threaten commercial shipping and its Gulf neighbors.

The economic consequences followed Americans home.

Oil prices surged after the war began, feeding through to gasoline and other consumer costs just as Republicans headed into a midterm election already dominated by concerns over affordability.

Even after U.S.-led operations restored much of the traffic through Hormuz by the fall, oil flows remained below prewar levels and Iran continued attacking commercial vessels.

The prolonged conflict also complicated Trump's effort to argue that the war had already accomplished its central objectives. By October, the president was disputing that he had ever promised the entire conflict would end within four to six weeks, saying that timeline referred only to eliminating Iran's nuclear threat.
