The midterms are finally happening today, and frustration is growing among some conservative voters. Some are disappointed with President Donald Trump; some feel Republicans in Congress haven’t delivered on their promises; and others have grown disillusioned with the political process altogether. That frustration has led them to believe that the solution is to sit out the 2026 midterms.

That’ll show Trump! That’ll really teach Republicans a lesson! And what better way to send a message than to hand Democrats a victory? Brilliant strategy.

Except there’s one glaring problem with that logic: Elections aren’t just about rewarding politicians who keep their promises or punishing those who don’t.

Free speech, the right to life, and constitutional freedoms are directly under threat. Your vote isn’t just about which politicians deserve your support; it’s about what kind of country you want to preserve. The Right’s vision for America’s future stands in stark contrast to the dangerous shift in values being pushed by the Left. Sitting out is not an option.

Political violence and the normalization of hatred

The assassination of Charlie Kirk in September 2025 exposed something deeply disturbing about America’s political climate. A husband and father was killed while engaging in the very kind of open debate that makes a free society possible: exchanging ideas with people who disagree.

Civil debate has long been a cornerstone of American progress. It’s how we challenge ideas, find common ground, and maintain unity despite our differences.

Kirk himself once warned, “When people stop talking, really bad stuff starts.”

The reaction from leftists made it disturbingly clear that they viewed Charlie Kirk’s murder not only as justified, but as the kind of retaliation people should expect for challenging their beliefs.

It’s precisely this normalization of political violence that makes the warning from National Review editor Mark Antonio Wright, following Kirk’s murder, so important.

Wright emphasized that constitutional government, elections, and free debate exist precisely because the alternative is settling political disagreements through violence. He also issued a sobering warning to Americans who might allow such a heinous act to intimidate them into withdrawing from politics, elections, or public debate.

“We are staring into the abyss,” Wright writes. “The moment when Americans of goodwill abstain from entering the public arena — as politicians, as activists, as citizens — will be the moment we refuse our God-given right to govern ourselves. If we are cowed by violence and the threat of violence into staying silent and avoiding political discourse, we are no longer free.”

This should alarm every American, regardless of political affiliation. When expressing an unpopular opinion invites threats, intimidation, or even murder, free speech becomes a right people are afraid to exercise. And when political violence is excused, fear replaces debate. A nation where people are afraid to speak freely is a nation that has lost its freedom entirely.

“Free Speech” is for those with the approved views

Increasingly hostile political rhetoric has created an environment where far too many Americans are afraid to express their beliefs publicly for fear of retaliation.

In January 2026, National Review reported on a Students for Life of America poll finding that 92% of surveyed voters ages 18 to 45 were concerned about violence targeting people for exercising free speech.

That concern is hardly unfounded. The media’s repeated comparisons of Trump to Hitler, his supporters to Nazis, his allies to the Gestapo, and his base to fascists have created a narrative that portrays the right as comparable to regimes responsible for torture, brutality, and the extermination of millions of innocent people. That rhetoric has convinced left-wing voters that they’re confronting an evil so extreme that violent retaliation is not only justified, but something their political opponents should expect.

But the encouragement of violence extends beyond media rhetoric.

Conservative commentator Ben Shapiro has warned that specific ideologies combined with inflammatory political rhetoric have created “permission structures for violence.” When people frame ideological disagreements as threats to their very existence, they foster an “either me or them” mentality that makes violence seem necessary.

Using radical transgender ideology as an example, Shapiro wrote, “When Charlie Kirk was assassinated, it was obvious almost immediately that the ideology that was driving the shooting was a left-wing, radical trans ideology.” He argues that, by labeling the statement that a man is not a woman as “trans genocide,” the Left makes disagreement seem like a deadly threat.

That is precisely where free speech is most at risk: expressing views that differ from the Left can provoke retaliation of any kind.

Abortion and the value of human life

Abortion is no longer simply a moral disagreement. It has become a gateway for government to decide who deserves to live, reducing human life to a political calculation.

Even more troubling, the arguments have evolved beyond “safe, legal, and rare” and “a woman’s right to choose.” Abortion was once defended as necessary in difficult circumstances involving rape, incest, or threats to the mother’s life. But abortion advocates have since embraced a far more troubling position: openly acknowledging that the unborn child is a human being, yet arguing that its humanity is irrelevant if a woman chooses to end her pregnancy for any reason.

And that’s the point. For the Left, humanity has become irrelevant.

TPUSA representative Shane Winnings and a college student clashed over this very issue. Winnings argued that human beings have inherent value simply because they are human. The student rejected that biblical standard, arguing that human life has no inherent value and that people can justify deciding who lives and dies under a wide range of circumstances.

This is exactly where we feared the abortion debate would lead, and the potential implications for society — and the laws designed to protect human life, or lack thereof — are terrifying.

These opposing views on human life’s inherent value reveal the kind of society we risk becoming if those in power decide that an innocent person’s right to life depends on their development, circumstances, or convenience to others, then write laws to justify taking that life.

Constitutional rights and accountable government

Beyond individual controversies lies a broader question about the government’s relationship with its citizens.

Conservatives prioritize limited government, constitutional freedoms, and preserving the values that have allowed generations of Americans to prosper, overcome adversity, and build better lives through hard work and personal responsibility.

By contrast, the Left advocates bigger government and increasingly restrictive policies that threaten individual freedoms, replacing personal liberty and traditional values with a system of government control that demands compliance under threat of retaliation.

The importance of participation

Political disappointment is inevitable. No president or party will deliver everything its supporters expect. But the stakes of sitting out go beyond individual policies. We’re now deciding whether America remains grounded in the principles of free speech, the right to life, and liberty under the Constitution — or moves toward a society where dissent is silenced, human life is treated as conditional, and political violence is excused.

Ultimately, what’s at stake is not just who governs, but the values that define our nation. Our rights are either God-given and protected by government or privileges that those in power can grant and revoke. The Founders established the Constitution to prevent the latter.

Here’s a name I haven’t thought about in a couple of years, and happily so: Ann Selzer.

Selzer, you’ll recall, was the longtime once-respectable pollster for the Des Moines Register whose career went down in flames amid the fallout from a horribly skewed 11th-hour 2024 presidential poll that showed Donald Trump trailing Kamala Harris 47-44 in the Hawkeye State.

For context, a June Register poll showed Trump up by four over Harris. And for even more context, Trump ultimately ended up winning Iowa... by 13 points.

Selzer’s poll, however grotesque, was neither clever nor original. In fact, she was something of an electioneering piker. Recall that just four years earlier, an infamous Washington Post-ABC News poll showed Basement Joe Biden leading Trump by 17 points in Wisconsin just days before the election.

The result in Wisconsin? Biden did indeed beat Trump… by half a point. Mission accomplished.

Both the Selzer poll and the WaPo/ABC News poll were exactly what desperate Democrats wanted because they knew the legacy media would broadcast the findings far and wide, generating last-minute excitement among Democrats and last-minute gloom among Republicans, spurring turnout among the former and stifling it among the latter.

In short, these polls were manipulative pieces of pollaganda, a self-descriptive term that our Mark Alexander introduced some 18 years ago.

Clearly, the Democrats and their pollagandizing fellow travelers are undeterred, as evidenced by the 2026 version of their polling psyop — this one courtesy of The New York Times and Siena University. In this poll, which focuses on this cycle’s key Senate races, Democrats lead in Michigan by 11, in Texas by seven, in Maine by six, and in both Ohio and Kansas by five.

So the Times wants you to believe that Abdulrahman Mohamed El-Sayed — a guy whose family has ties to a U.S.-designated terrorist organization called the Muslim Brotherhood; a guy who just two days ago on “60 Minutes” put conditions on Israel’s very right to exist; a guy whose vile response to the attempted mass murder by a Muslim terrorist of Jewish children at a suburban Detroit day school was, “Hurt people hurt people”; a guy who vows to live his life in the “Sharia compliant” way — is leading Republican Mike Rogers by 11 points?

Either an overwhelming majority of Michigan’s 7.4 million voters are sleepwalking through recent European history, or the Times should be made to register under Section 527 of the IRS code as a super PAC.

Indeed, The New York Times isn’t so much a news organization as it is a political action committee, or even a pressure group. So when you think of the Times, you should think of it in the same terms as you think of CAIR or NARAL or Black Lives Matter or Code Pink or the Human Rights Campaign or the Democrat Party. The Times, like all those other organizations, has an agenda, and that agenda isn’t first and foremost to report the news. Its agenda is to shape the news.

This stuff would be laughable were it not so infuriating — and so potentially destructive to the welfare of our nation. Why, it’s almost as if the legacy media is taking turns each election cycle. Just watch: In the waning hours of the 2028 presidential cycle, either CBS News or NBC News will take one in the neck for the team and publish a ridiculously biased poll that harms their particular brand but helps their collective cause.

“Democrats Show Strength in Final Days of Race for the Senate, New Polls Find.” That’s the headline from the Times. But buried within the poll is this encouraging nugget: “There are still some undecided voters, and voters who decided only in the last month favored Republicans by a nine-point margin.” Translation: The Democrats are limping to the finish line.

“My gut tells me,” said Fox News elder statesman Brit Hume on Sunday night, “that this is gonna be a big blue night.” Hume continued, “I think everybody agrees that the House is gone to the Democrats. That’s a virtual certainty. The Senate obviously is in play. ... I think at the moment the Republicans have every reason to be worried about losing both the House and the Senate and creating a very, very difficult next two years for this president as he serves out his term.”

As author and columnist Conrad Black has noted, though, Donald Trump’s list of achievements is rather spectacular. And this despite the most vicious and unrelenting headwinds:

The tiresome and predictable criticism of a pro-Trump bias will come, as it always does when anyone tries to say anything positive about the president, but let me respond with two points. Firstly, one can dislike Trump and still recognize the accomplishments are real and laudable. If personal dislike for the president prevents someone from seeing that, the real bias problem is with them. Secondly, when 92 percent of media coverage on the president is anti-Trump, balance does not come from repeating what is already deafeningly amplified. It comes from stating the parts that are generally ignored.

If this doesn’t cause folks to wonder why they’re considering a vote to punish Trump, I don’t know what will.

If you’ve read this far, you’re already a committed conservative, already a committed voter. You don’t need convincing. So this column is written for your friend or neighbor — that person whom you suspect is right-leaning and maybe just needs a last-second nudge to get out to the polls today. This is your chance to be a force multiplier, even if it’s only a force of 1+1.

And finally, if your neighbor isn’t duly persuaded, ask him if he finds it strange that the Democrats are the party that Hamas is rooting for; and the Islamic Republic of Iran; and those student rioters all across France; and our nation’s number one geopolitical foe, Communist China; and the Mexican and South American drug cartels; and the open-borders folks; and the transgender cult that wants to normalize the spectacle of men competing against women in sports.

All of these vile forces are arrayed against the Republican Party today. All of them have a rooting interest in the Democrat Party. Let’s not let them have the last word.

Trump’s Closing Argument Isn’t as Strange as It Seems. On the last day before today’s elections, the president visited the Reflecting Pool to make a speech touting his improvements in Washington!-Posted on The Patriot Post-By Nate Jackson, Managing Editor-On November 3, 2026:

The economy is by far the most important issue for American voters in the 2026 midterms. Unfortunately, inflation is persistent, and it’s higher now than at the beginning of the year. The war with Iran has caused oil — and gas and diesel — prices to rise, fueling inflation. But the rest of the economic picture is quite good.

That doesn’t mean Americans feel great about it.

President Donald Trump has done many good things in both terms. In 2017, he and his fellow Republicans passed a massive tax cut with zero Democrat votes. In 2025, they made those rates permanent, again with zero Democrat votes. In between that, Joe Biden and the Democrats lit the wildfire of inflation. So the Dems can stuff a sock in it with their “affordability” talk.

Trump has closed Biden’s open border, and he’s working to deport criminal aliens. As a result of that and other policies, violent crime has nosedived.

Still, many folks are awfully tired of the president. Trump Derangement Syndrome combined with the fatigue factor works against Republicans across the country.

So what did Trump do on the eve of the election to inspire confidence and generate GOP turnout?

He went to the Reflecting Pool in DC and touted his renovations.

Now, don’t get me wrong: I generally think Trump’s work to beautify the Reflecting Pool, build a White House ballroom, and even build a triumphal arch is a worthy pursuit. America is great, and it’s worth cleaning up not just the crime in our capital city but the city itself. As Trump put it, “Our country is strong, respected, and prosperous once more, and our capital is cleaner, safer, and more spectacular than ever.”

Yet when the American people (me included) are grumbling about $4.15 gas and $6.29 diesel, I can understand why “vanity projects” aren’t very popular or the best campaign idea. That also gives the Leftmedia an opening to once again put a thumb on the scales to help Democrats.

“President Donald Trump on Monday concluded his midterm push with a closing argument like no other: Look what I did with the Reflecting Pool,” scoffs The Washington Post, which has devoted Watergate-like resources to covering the water and lining of the Pool.

The Associated Press adds that his holding up a poster of the formerly algae-filled Pool “was the final moment of his last big speech before Election Day, far away from the campaign trail where Republicans were trying to make their case to voters to hang onto control of Congress.”

The Leftmedia hates Trump with the heat of a thousand suns, so this isn’t surprising. But I also don’t want to imitate them here. Usually, when Democrats do something bad, media outlets instead make the story about how “Republicans pounce” on the issue. So when Trump does something odd, I don’t want to make the story merely about the Leftmedia pouncing.

Besides, it’s not just journalists and Democrats pointing and saying, Can you believe this guy?

It’s Republicans, too. Other than a few strategists willing to give a quote to the AP, candidates aren’t going to complain, but they must be wondering why, when a number of them could use Trump’s help to inspire his base, he’s busy celebrating unpopular renovations.

That’s doubly true of the Reflecting Pool, which had to be renovated a second time this year after Trump falsely blamed vandals for the first job being done poorly. He once again blamed vandals yesterday, “even though,” the AP correctly notes, “the Justice Department has acknowledged in court that the new blue liner he had installed on the pool peeled and detached because of a rushed repair job.”

However, there are methods to Trump’s seeming madness.

It’s irrefutable that Trump loves America and views his Washington projects as a celebration of our 250th birthday and his work to Make America Great Again. “It’s a golden age of America,” he said in his speech at the Reflecting Pool on Monday. “We have a country that we can be proud of again.”

The White House Truth Social page added, “Decline was a choice. President Donald J. Trump made D.C. beautiful again, restoring greatness in our nation’s capital and a country we are proud to call home.”

Those things are true — and they’re also at risk if voters turn Congress over to the hate-Trump, hate-America Democrats.

And it’s not like Trump hasn’t been barnstorming the country, holding rallies for Republicans all over the place. At 80, he still has boundless energy, which — need I even say it — is a far cry from his predecessor.

This morning, his Truth Social page is chock-full of promotion and endorsements for Republican candidates across the country.

Trump ain’t perfect, but he’s done some good work this term. Republicans in the House and Senate should be able to help him continue that work over the next two years. However, if Democrats win either or both chambers, the next two years will be a lot worse than algae in a pool. It will be total obstruction, endless investigations, and probably another impeachment.

The Reflecting Pool reflects Trump’s work to restore America — imperfect, and rife with fighting, but a worthwhile and successful project. Vote like it.

There are days when you’re going to say, “I can’t do this anymore.” When those moments of exhaustion and doubt inevitably come, give yourself permission to take a break. Step back, take a day off, or take a couple of days off if you need them to recharge your spirit. Rest is a necessary part of any long journey, but never confuse resting with quitting—above all else, don’t give up.

I know people across this nation are deeply tired. They’re tired of being lied to, tired of asking simple questions only to receive deflected answers and empty excuses, and tired of looking at their own government and wondering whether anybody in power actually remembers who is supposed to be in charge. The American people are resilient and can handle the plain, unvarnished truth. Tell us what happened, tell us what’s broken, and then tell us what concrete steps you’re going to take to fix it.

That fundamental honesty is how you begin to rebuild and restore trust. In my judgment, the severe lack of trust between the American people and the government sworn to serve us is the single greatest threat our country faces today. I firmly believe that this rift can be corrected, although real repair will not happen overnight. However, it will never be corrected if good, principled people simply decide they’re done and walk away from the process.

We must accept that there is no white knight on a white horse riding in to rescue us. We cannot keep passively relying on one savior or individual leader instead of relying on our own collective strength and action. We have to reach a firm, conscious point where we say, “Enough is enough. I’m going to get involved, and I’m personally going to do something about it.”

That engagement starts by actively taking control of what we can control in our immediate lives. We control our own time, our personal priorities, and the daily decisions we make. We decide whether to actively learn what is happening in our local communities, attend a school board or town hall meeting, ask a difficult question of elected officials, or encourage a friend to get involved. These are fundamental lessons in leadership, and you do not need an official title or elected office to practice them every day.

I learned a vital lesson long ago as a military officer: people constantly watch what their leaders do. If the lieutenant panics and starts running, everybody around him wants to know why. They wonder where he is going, what unseen danger he knows about, and whether they should start running too. The takeaway for effective leadership is simple and enduring: stay steady.

That principle applies just as strongly in our local communities and inside our homes. When you give up and surrender to cynicism, somebody who is watching you may give up too. But when you hold your ground and remain steadfast, you give someone else the courage and reason to keep going. Your children, grandchildren, neighbors, and friends are all watching. Some of them may never explicitly tell you how much your quiet example matters to them, but it impacts them more than you know.

I often think about my own parents and the extraordinary generation that came before us. They sacrificed, served through hardship, and built a foundation of freedom. They passed down a country brimming with opportunity and essentially said, “Here you go. You can achieve anything in the world.” Many of us benefited enormously from the nation they built, defended, and preserved. Now, we have a solemn duty to ask ourselves what kind of country we will hand over to our children.

I refuse to blame the younger generation for the challenging conditions of a world they simply inherited. Look closely at the complex world we are passing on to them and the immense responsibilities they will soon carry on their shoulders. We have a moral obligation to do everything within our power to leave them a country that is stronger and better than we found it.

At their core, most Americans simply want to raise their families, own a home, earn an honest living, and live their lives without the government unnecessarily interfering with them. You will find that people across all political backgrounds share these fundamental human aspirations. However, if we want to protect these simple freedoms, we must be willing to sacrifice for them. We must serve others, live out the Golden Rule, and accept that preserving a free nation requires meaningful commitment and effort from every single one of us.

For those of us guided by faith, that civic responsibility carries deep spiritual weight. I often hear people say, “We know how this story ends—God wins.” While I believe wholeheartedly in God, I also believe there is intentional purpose in the trials and challenges we are asked to walk through. After everything I have experienced, I have asked myself many times why certain paths were laid before me. My faith has sustained me and helped me recognize a clear purpose in continuing to show up, engage directly with people, and do whatever good I can.

We each need to evaluate our own lives and ask what more we can contribute. Can you bring a few more people into community work? Can you help someone better understand an important issue, or facilitate a thoughtful, respectful conversation within your own circle of friends? This localized effort matters tremendously in our neighborhoods, civic groups, and places of worship among ordinary citizens who care enough to organize, educate themselves, and put their values into practice.

We must also stop standing in awe of political and social titles. Whether someone holds the rank of governor, senator, president, or military general, we are all ultimately human beings subject to the same flaws and duties. We should firmly expect and demand that those entrusted with public authority answer serious questions and faithfully fulfill their duties. Becoming enamored with the prestige, glitz, and glamour of office does absolutely nothing to address or solve the real problems facing our country.

At the same time, we must uphold our own civic responsibilities. For example, I voted early in Florida because I knew I would be traveling and unable to cast a ballot on Election Day. Like many citizens, I have genuine concerns about the integrity and functioning of our election system, and I want leaders who will work to fix those issues. But I vote regardless because democratic participation is essential we must choose our representatives, demand accountability from them, and keep working long after the ballots are counted. Walking away in frustration simply surrenders those vital decisions to someone else.

If you are already engaged in your community, keep asking yourself the question I pose to people everywhere: “What more can I do?” You don’t have to solve every problem single-handedly, but you can take the knowledge, experience, and wisdom you have gained and put them to meaningful work. Start the conversation, show up when it counts, and help inspire someone else to find the courage to stand beside you.

I have children and grandchildren, and I care deeply about the country and culture they will grow up in. I was blessed to receive a nation with more freedom and opportunity than what prior generations had, and I cannot accept handing the next generation a country diminished by our own complacency or unwillingness to act. When my time comes, I want to know beyond a shadow of a doubt that I gave it everything I had. That core purpose is what drives me forward every single day.

So when you feel weary, take a deep breath, step back, and get the rest you need. Spend meaningful time with the family, friends, and neighbors who remind you why this country is worth every ounce of effort. Then come back refreshed, stay steady in your resolve, and stay actively involved.

Whatever challenges lie ahead, don’t ever give up.
