Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, the driving force behind President Trump's economic sanctions and isolation strategy against the Iranian regime, appeared on Fox News over the weekend. His update was a whole lot different than the competing online propaganda barrages and American media misreporting offered of late.
X was full of pro-IRGC accounts repeating regime claims that three different non-Iranian tankers in the Strait of Hormuz have been destroyed. One, they claim, hit a mine and erupted in a fireball, and two others were set ablaze by drone strikes the regime claims they can do at will. Secretary Bessent, however, calmly stated actual reality.

Why such a discrepancy? Because the regime's only play right now, and I mean their only play, is to lie about instability and control of the Strait as loudly as humanly possible, and encourage their proxy in Yemen, the Houthis, to blow up anything they can to spike oil prices up before the midterms elections. That strategy is not working. West Texas is now in the $80's again, and Brent is dropping once more.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio last Wednesday reminded the press that the Iranians simply do not control oil flow in Hormuz, and the daily scoreboard shows it.

One of the elements that could bring about the fall of the regime sooner rather than later is whether the rest of the region's forming coalition against Iran's last proxy standing, the Houthis, successfully eradicates the terror group from Yemen or not. And on that front, there is a lot going on you're simply not hearing about.
The topline story that did make news was back-to-back missile strikes from the Houthis on Saudi Arabia's Riyadh Airport. The second one that hit Terminal 4 yesterday was especially devastating.

Most of those killed were Muslim pilgrims heading to the holy cities. But one American was killed, and also included was one Pakistani. Iran and the Houthis had already made Pakistan's naughty list a couple weeks ago when they attempted to hit both Mecca and Medina with strikes. That triggered the Mecca Defense Pact, ushering in both Pakistani and Turk military assets. Syria is now signaling they want to take part in finishing off the Houthis before this spreads further.
The Atlantic ran a piece yesterday wondering whether the Saudis or anyone in the region had the will to see a campaign against the Houthis through. If anyone in American media were to look at the fighting that transpired over the last week, that piece wouldn't have been run, because the question would have been answered in the affirmative.
Since Operation Dawn of Yemen commenced on the Red Sea coast near the al-Mandab Strait on October 5, there have been a lot of battles all over the war-torn country south of the Kingdom, and Houthi casualties have been mounting up. According to Al Jazeera, since the fifth, Yemeni coalition forces have conducted 9,604 strikes on Houthi targets, neutralizing over 7,500 men and boys being forced to play soldier, and disabling or destroying over a thousand vehicles and/or launch sites. It's a war of attrition, and the Houthis have been on the losing side of the math game all week.
The first missile attack on Riyadh was intercepted, and the site from which it launched was destroyed almost immediately.

This is just a sample of what the Houthis have lost. Even according to their own media apparatus, they've announced the martyring of hundreds upon hundreds of soldiers, some as young as 13-years-old. They still retain a sizeable fighting force, and as the saying goes, quantity is a quality all its own. But the Saudis are in this fight now, and it's not just with air assets and Breaker missiles.

The battle for Yemen is still the biggest leading indicator for how the overall war with Iran is going. Iran is beyond desperate for the Houthis to cause calamity to oil exports in the Middle East. Their own bluster in Hormuz about how many ships they're destroying, which is bereft of truth or fact, is not doing the job of shooting Brent crude to $200. Their customers in India and China have lined up oil deals with other countries in the region, and oil continues to flow out of Hormuz and through the East-West pipeline at or near pre-war levels. Russia just sold Iran out to make a deal with Donald Trump exporting diesel. Pakistan, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, and now Qatar, have all joined forces against them. Every proxy Iran once controlled is dead, dying, or switching allegiances.
How do you know it's going bad for the regime? They trotted out a Cardboard Mojtaba lookalike and paraded him around Tehran for a mini-rally.

The Houthis claimed responsibility for a Sunday attack that resulted in new injuries at a Saudi Arabian airport passenger terminal one day after a missile hit the same building and killed 13 people, including an American, in an escalation that has the Trump administration weighing retaliatory U.S. strikes.
Saturday’s missile strike on the capital’s King Khalid International Airport left more than 300 people injured and was the deadliest attack in years on Saudi Arabia. India’s embassy in Saudi Arabia said one of its citizens died Sunday of injuries sustained in Saturday’s attack, which would bring the toll to 13.
On Sunday, the Houthis suggested that airlines, workers and travelers should avoid Saudi airports and airspace, warning that the facilities are “vulnerable to targeting and constitute a theater of operations for our forces.”
“The armed forces affirm their commitment to implement the declared equation: an airport for an airport, a blockade for a blockade, and escalation for escalation, until the objectives are achieved,” said Brig. Gen. Yahya Saree, a Houthi military spokesman.
He said the only Saudi airports not subject to the Houthi threats of attack are those in Mecca and Medina, the two holiest cities in Islam.
“Everyone should take our warnings seriously,” Gen. Saree said. “Saudi Arabia bears responsibility for any failed attempts to intercept,” the missiles.
President Trump said the U.S. may join Saudi operations against the Houthis, including direct military involvement.
“We’re going to look at it,” Mr. Trump told reporters on Saturday outside the White House. “We’ll make a decision. We move very quickly.
The Houthis have attacked the airport in Riyadh several times in recent days. They have expanded the scale of ballistic missile, cruise missile, and drone attacks targeting Saudi civilian airports since Oct. 4, when Yemeni government-aligned forces launched a counteroffensive to retake territory on the Red Sea coastal plain, according to the Institute for the Study of War think tank.
“The Houthis’ frequent attacks on Saudi civilian infrastructure, particularly airports, are currently motivating Saudi efforts to degrade Houthi ballistic missile capabilities and other long-range strike platforms,” the ISW said.
On Saturday, U.S. forces disabled a commercial cargo vessel in the Gulf of Oman after the crew of the Panamanian-flagged ship ignored repeated warnings while attempting to run the ongoing naval blockade against Iran.
A U.S. military fighter jet struck the stern of the M/V Ocean Molica with a precision munition, disabling the ship’s propulsion without harming the crew. The Ocean Molica, also known as the Akira Sun, was attempting to skirt through regional waters after leaving an Iranian port, according to U.S. Central Command.
Central Command said four commercial ships have been disabled and 135 turned around since July 14, when the U.S. resumed a blockade against all ships entering or departing Iranian ports. U.S. forces have destroyed 10 oil tankers linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ multi-billion-dollar shadow network over the same period, officials said.
Last year, the U.S. launched an intense bombing campaign against the Houthis primarily to end their persistent missile and drone attacks on international commercial shipping lanes in the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandeb Strait.
The strikes disrupted global maritime trade and forced ships into costly detours around Africa.
