Pamela Geller: Robert DeNiro denounces America during visit to sharia dictatorship
Ezra Levant, Rebel Commander, Rebel Media:
On last night’s show, author and activist Pamela Geller joined me to share her thoughts on Robert DeNiro denouncing the United States as “backwards” during a visit to the United Arab Emirates.
The United Arab Emirates is not a democracy, women don’t have equal rights, religious minorities do not have the same rights of Muslims, and foreign workers are brought in to work as slaves. Deniro thinking this was an appropriate place to insult his country is only further proof of the Hollywood left’s hypocrisy.

Texas: Plano Councilman Pressured to Resign Over Facebook Post Calling for Banning of Islam from Schools
( Muslims do not assimilate! They infiltrate!!! )
Harrison has issued a groveling apology, which you can read in its nauseating fullness at the end of this news article, but that isn’t enough. The local Muslims are planning protests and intend to keep up the pressure until he resigns. And what was his crime? He called for Islam not to be taught in public schools, just the way Christianity and Judaism and other religions aren’t. We have seen over the years many, many examples of Islam being taught as fact in American public schools. Why should Tom Harrison or anyone else have to apologize for standing against that? These are not Islamic schools. But if the Muslims who are howling now for Harrison’s resignation get their way in this country, they will be.
More background here.
“Plano Mayor Calls on Councilman to Resign Over Facebook Post on Islam,” by Diana Zoga, NBCDFW.com, February 15, 2018 (thanks to Eddy):
Tuesday night, a short video featuring school scenes and girls in hijabs with the words “Share if you think Trump should ban Islam in American schools” was shared by Plano City Councilman Tom Harrison’s Facebook page.
The video stayed on the page for most of the day Wednesday, even as Plano Mayor Harry LaRosiliere says he and the city manager tried to reach the councilman for an explanation.
“I waited to hopefully see some type of retraction that his account was hacked,” LaRosiliere said. “I’m not sure why that was there, but that didn’t happen.”
At a press conference Wednesday afternoon, LaRosiliere publicly called on Harrison to resign.
“Mr. Harrison’s position indicates that he is unfit to represent this richly diverse city. This conduct is inconsistent with the values of the city of Plano,” LaRosiliere said.
LaRosiliere said Harrison had not previously expressed any views about Islam to the mayor or during official city meetings.
Harrison was elected to the city council in 2015 for a four-year term. His Facebook page shows consistent posts about city business and his views on city issues.
NBC 5 tried to reach Harrison Wednesday afternoon by calling his city phone and emailing his city email account. A reporter left a voicemail on his mobile phone, a note on his door at home and sent him a Facebook message. NBC 5 reached his adult son by phone who said his dad was in doctors’ appointments and the message would be passed on.
Later Wednesday afternoon, the Facebook post was taken down, and by Wednesday evening Harrison posted an apology but did not address the mayor’s call for him to resign.
The video shared on Harrison’s page was from a Facebook group called “Joined Hands Across America for Trump.” The video doesn’t specify what is meant by banning Islam from schools, whether that means banning world religion lessons, prayer or Muslim students.
“I’m a mom, I’m a city of Plano resident, I’m also a Muslim, so the post kind of struck a chord in many ways for me,” said Suzanne, who declined to give her last name publicly.
She said a friend sent her a screenshot of the post early Wednesday morning. It upset her enough to begin emailing the city and then make the trip to city hall to hear directly from the mayor.
“When it comes to public servants voicing their opinions in the public sphere that can easily be accessed by everyone — children and adults alike — I think that bears with it some kind of responsibility,” Suzanne said.
Imam Omar Suleiman, of Faith Forward Dallas and an Irving resident, said the sharing of the video on Facebook is concerning coming from a public official.
“When an entire group of people are targeted either by a teacher or an elected official, then those people are unfit to educate or to lead,” Suleiman said. “I think that’s what the post is really all about.”
He says if Harrison does not resign, he expects the community will continue to look for political consequences for the post.
“We’re going to stage protests, we’re going to continue to mobilize to make sure that the councilman is replaced,” Suleiman said.
Nafis Pathan, of the Islamic Association of Collin County, says his community has been active with the city of Plano and that he was disappointed in Harrison but pleased with the mayor’s response.
“I hope the city councilman understands the consequences and accepts the demand from Mayor Harry [LaRosiliere],” Pathan said….
Harrison’s full apology follows:
“I want to sincerely apologize to the Plano Muslim Community for the unintentional hurt I caused by reposting something on my personal Facebook page that wrongfully implied I am anti-Muslim. My intent on inputting this on my personal Facebook page was to emphasize that Christianity is not the only religion being targeted for exclusion in our public school. It was not meant as a personal attack against the Islamic faith. As a Christian, it is my belief that all should be free to worship as they choose, but we live in a time where any practice of religious expression in public schools is rarely tolerated. My hope is that due to the rightful negative response to my post, that it will spark a renewed discussion about all religions and their place in our public schools. My other regret is that my personal action has reflected poorly on the City of Plano. My action was personal in nature, but I should have remembered this past Monday night’s Council discussion …. none of us are ever truly off duty. None of us are perfect, and we will all be judged one day by the highest authority. Until then, I ask for forgiveness within the community and acceptance of my sincere apology.”

{ jewishworldreview.com } ~ When House Minority Leader Nancy Pulosi made history last week for the longest speech delivered on the House floor, she deserved praise for two things: her stamina in the eight-hour talk fest and her ability to do it in 4-inch spike heels.
But politically, she likely did little more than create another attack ad for Republicans to run against Democratic candidates around the country.
Pulosi's speech, mostly stories about "Dreamers" — the people who were brought to the U.S. illegally as children by their parents and are caught in a political firestorm between both parties — was red meat for the Democratic base. But perorations on behalf of immigrants who are in the country illegally are unlikely to excite the independents, and swing Republicans and centrist Democrats whose votes will determine control of Congress.
Similarly tone-deaf were her warnings last year that the Republican tax-cut bill is the apocalypse. "It is the end of the world," Pulosi told reporters after the bill passed. "This is Armageddon."
And calling the $1,000 bonuses that more than 3 million American workers have received over the past few weeks as a result of the bill "crumbs" was also not helpful.
A $1,000 bonus is not a crumb, and neither is an extra $100 per paycheck. As Democrats were supposed to spend their week fine-tuning their message at their party retreat, they had to face some hard truths about the face of the Party. Pulosi is out of touch with people who live outside of her San Francisco district and Washington, D.C.
Most of the people who live in the more than 100 House districts the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is targeting are happy with their crumbs, don't see the connection between immigrants who are in the country illegally and a budget deal, couldn't afford Pulosi's high heels anyway and, so far, don't see Armageddon on the horizon.
No one thing or person moves the needle more for Republicans than House Minority Leader Pulosi. Place her in a head-to-head focus group against Trump in a congressional swing district currently held by a Republican and Trump comes out on top every time.
That just hurts Democratic candidates.
This is why Conor Lamb, the Democratic nominee in the special election for Pennsylvania's 18th Congressional District, said he would like to see Democrats replace Pulosi as their leader.
Lamb is no conservative. He's pro-abortion rights and believes there needs to be a broader discussion of gun control. Yet he faces enough headwinds in this Republican-leaning district, and so, he had to moderate somewhere to help him win. Distancing himself from Pulosi was the most obvious choice.
Still, the GOP is running ads in the district, placing Lamb side by side with Pulosi on the issues.
Democrats have a decent chance of taking back the majority in the House, or at least making it close. The signs of a wave are percolating but not quite clear. One of their biggest obstacles is Nancy Pulosi's unpopularity among voters outside San Francisco.
As one Democratic strategist working on several House races put it: "We cannot continue to turn people off. The door just started to open for us, and if we don't get our messaging right, it is going to shut in our face before it ever opened."
Cursing $1,000 crumbs, declaring Armageddon and standing in heels isn't going to open that door.

The Democrat Party Is America’s Communist Party

Trump’s State of the Union address on January 30, 2018 highlighted his administration’s accomplishments during his first year in office, but it also revealed something else, that the Democrat Party is actually the Communist Party. Trump announced that his administration has “created 2.4 million new jobs, unemployment claims have hit a 45-year low, and African-American unemployment stands at the lowest rate ever recorded.”
How did the Democrat elected politicians react to this good news? They sat. They refused to applaud. It was a clear message that Democrats do not care about good news for America or for the American individual.
Video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L1amVK_5ztQ
There can be no doubt, Democrats are Communists.
The late U.S. Senator Joseph McCarthy must be rolling in his grave and would have loved to have served as senator in an American time period such as this.
President Donald Trump’s son, Eric Trump said, “Democrats would rather see this country fail than see my father succeed.”
Eric Trump hit on something true, but missed the broader point. Donald Trump, successful entrepreneurial billionaire turned president, is the Democrats worst nightmare.
President Donald Trump wants to unleash American exceptionalism, the capitalist system, the entrepreneurial spirit, and the free market economy. Trump wants to empower the American individual, to open up opportunities for businesses, and make individuals independently reliant and successful, not reliant upon the handouts of the government. President Trump wants to make America great again, and his policies are doing so.
Democrats, on the other hand, are Communists. The Democrat-Communist Party cloaks itself in false labeling. They are not ‘Liberals’ or ‘Progressives,’ whose stated goal is to advance society. Their goal is, and always has been, government regulation and control over the American people.
The Democrat-Communists want to regulate everything that they can. They regulate rainwater acquisition on privately held land, and they would regulate breathing if they could, and even try to do so through global warming initiatives and legislation.
The Democrat Party tries to fool Americans by cloaking themselves as Progressives or Liberals. The Democrat Party is the American Communist Party.
The Next Budget Boondoggle
Most conservatives have longed for the day when our elected officials would cut taxes, rein in spending and produce a balanced budget. We will have to long some more because from the looks of Trump’s proposal and the actions of Republicans in Congress, the days of working for any semblance of fiscal sanity are past. Instead of reducing spending, Trump’s latest proposal would add to the national debt even more because it makes little effort to control deficit spending.
“Talk about an afterthought,” says The Wall Street Journal. “Congress just passed a two-year budget outline that supersedes nearly everything Mr. Trump is proposing.” Indeed, presidential budget proposals never pass Congress, but they provide a guide to the administration’s priorities.
Among the many problems in Washington, one of the biggest is that there are too few fiscally conservative politicians. And it’s not just Democrats who have a spending problem — it’s the majority of Republicans in Congress as well. And, oh, by the way, the GOP currently has the majority in the House and the Senate. Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul perhaps said it best when he declared, “When the Democrats are in power, Republicans appear to be the conservative party, but when Republicans are in power, it seems there is no conservative party.”
The budget Trump signed last week adds $320 billion in spending to an already bloated budget. Republicans caved to just about every one of the Democrats’ spending proposals, which will of course add to the national debt. Trump’s 2019 budget proposal sets a goal of $3 trillion in spending cuts, but it doesn’t balance the budget because those cuts aren’t cuts — they’re reductions in anticipated growth. Trump is counting on an improving economy due to the tax cuts to help with narrowing the gap. Thus his administration assumes that by cutting funds in certain government programs but spending more in others, the debt will shrink relative to the economy. That has not worked out well in the past.
Republicans have campaigned for years about cutting taxes, cutting spending and balancing the budget. So far we’ve seen action on the first plank, but little on the other two. Of course, Donald Trump did not campaign as a small government conservative — he campaigned as a businessman, a deal maker who could “drain the swamp.”
For example, Trump’s two budget proposals keep his campaign promises to not touch Social Security and Medicare, but those programs account for an enormous part of the U.S. budget and are not sustainable. As the Journal notes, “Look at ‘payments for individuals,’ which encompass such income transfers as Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security and food stamps, among other things. This category was 47.7% of outlays in 1989 and has steadily climbed to reach an estimated 69.2% in 2019.”
To be sure, there’s a big difference between food stamps and Social Security, but that’s astounding — nearly 70% of the budget is straight up income redistribution.
Still, seniors in particular view Social Security and Medicare, not without reason, as something they are due and that shouldn’t be messed with because they paid into the system for decades. Despite the fact, however, that both programs are funded by today’s workers, and that the fiscal future for these government programs looking very bad, people who pay in don’t want the government intervening to “fix” it, because most realize that government fixes usually turn into greater problems. Trump knows this too.
That leads to the primary factor here. Most voters — from both major political parties — just don’t care about the budget or deficit spending. The issue doesn’t even crack the top 10 list of concerns for most voters. Most voters despise politicians and during election years cry out for smaller government. But when elected officials start talking about spending cuts for this or that program, many of their constituents cry out for the program to remain in place — or demand that more funds be allocated for the particular program.
Washington politicos know this, which is why both parties, particularly the “centrists” on both sides of the aisle push, pull and compromise on each other’s principles to spend money on pet projects that they think will benefit the majority of their constituents get the most votes. The focus becomes not on fiscal restraint but on pleasing constituents so that those in power can remain in power. The end result, as we have witnessed time and time again, is more of the same.
That’s why getting a balanced budget passed or actually reducing federal deficit spending may not ever happen because in the end neither party cares enough about the deficit enough to cut money from their favorite programs. Unfortunately, we will continue to get more of the same until the old guard politicians from both parties who have clung to their power for so long are voted out of office and replaced with people who understand the importance of constitutional government run with fiscal restraint.

Democrats Overplay Their Hand With Extreme DACA Demands
The current crisis du jour is the pending end of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, known as “DACA,” through which Barack liar-nObama granted protection against deportation for hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens.
In 2010, with Democrats firmly in control of Congress, liar-nObama faced immense pressure to push amnesty for millions of illegals. At first, liar-nObama rightly recognized the limits of his power, stating, “I am not king. I can’t do these things just by myself.” In March 2011, he reiterated that position, saying, “With respect to the notion that I can just suspend deportations through executive order, that’s just not the case.” In 2012, desperate for Hispanic voters to bail him out at the ballot box, liar-nObama did an about-face and announced the implementation of the DACA program.
Of course, Democrats never allow the truth to ruin a political narrative, so despite liar-nObama’s confession that DACA is unconstitutional, and despite the courts concurring, Democrats now claim President Donald Trump is a heartless racist for ending a program that liar-nObama had no right to implement. And two activist judges have issued orders to block Trump’s move.
In actuality, Trump is being far more compassionate than the law requires. In exchange for securing the border and ending chain migration and the visa lottery, Trump is offering to grant not only amnesty but a path to citizenship for 1.8 million illegals — nearly three times more than signed up for liar-nObama’s DACA program.
Such generosity has been met with extreme demands by Democrats: amnesty without border security, and a continuation of chain migration, further exploding the number of illegals entering the U.S.
There is zero legal obligation for the U.S. to grant amnesty to any illegals, and even the claim of a moral obligation is tenuous at best. The blame lies solely with the parents of the illegals who were brought here as children in direct defiance of U.S. immigration laws.
Regardless, because Americans are a compassionate people, there is widespread agreement that those illegal alien children who are truly here through no fault of their own, and who have known no other country, should be allowed to stay. Even Numbers USA, which advocates for strict limits on immigration, supports giving the so-called “Dreamers” legal status.
It is important to delineate between the “Dreamers” under DACA and what might be called “DACA-plus.” The DACA recipients took advantage of liar-nObama’s (illegal) program and applied for the deferral, paid fees and were issued work permits that allowed them to be hired by American employers. There were about 800,000 who took advantage of the program, minus the approximately 110,000 who were deported for crimes, or failed to renew their green cards, or married U.S. citizens. These are the people Americans support allowing to stay.
Not good enough, say Democrats. They cynically shut down the government last month to pressure Republicans to capitulate to their demands to expand the amnesty pool to include illegals who came here late in their teens, who were not born here, and for whom America is not their only home. It was a showdown they lost, but it was a revealing moment.
What is particularly galling to many Americans is to have their compassion rewarded with contempt and ingratitude. The job of the American government is first and foremost to protect the rights and interests of American citizens. As President Trump stated in his State of the Union Address, “My duty, and the sacred duty of every elected official in this chamber, is to defend Americans, to protect their safety, their families, their communities, and their right to the American Dream. … Because Americans are dreamers, too.”
Democrats are overplaying their hand, and it will come back to bite them. Nothing will erode the goodwill of the American people like being told that their kindness is not only owed to the illegals who broke our laws but that it is insufficient.
No other nation takes in as many immigrants as the United States. No other nation treats them as well as we do. Not only have we allowed them to stay, we have spent tens of billions of dollars feeding, housing and educating them.
Compare that to Mexico, home to many of these illegals. Mexico is in the process of a harsh crackdown on illegals coming up through Central America. In Mexico, instead of access to welfare programs and education, illegals are rounded up in police raids, imprisoned, beaten and often tortured.
America’s current situation is untenable. Our immigration laws must be reformed to deal with those here and those who want to come here. But in doing so, Americans and their interests should come first. Not one single immigrant or illegal alien has a “right” to come to America. Those allowed to stay do so out of the kindness of the American people.
And limiting immigration to those who truly love America, who want to embrace our history and culture, who promise to obey our laws, and who will be a net gain for our country is not an unreasonable demand.

Sessions Lauds 'Anglo-American Heritage,' Left Wails
Oops. Conversely, those words were offered by Sen. Barack liar-nObama in 2006.
Here’s what Sessions actually said yesterday at the NSA: “I want to thank every sheriff in America. Since our founding, the independently elected sheriff has been the people’s protector, who keeps law enforcement close to and accountable to people through the elective process. The office of sheriff is a critical part of the Anglo-American heritage of law enforcement. We must never erode this historic office.”
If words are any indication, liar-nObama and Sessions actually agree on something here. You’d never know it though given the Left’s ridiculous response to and vitriol toward Sessions. According to Hawaii Sen. Brian Schatz: “Do you know anyone who says ‘Anglo-American heritage’ in a sentence? What could possibly be the purpose of saying that other than to pit Americans against each other? For the chief law enforcement officer to use a dog whistle like that is appalling. Best NO vote I ever cast.”
To answer his first question, yes, we can name someone who says “Anglo-American” in a sentence — Schatz’s fellow Democrat and former black politician, Barack liar-nObama. (Maybe it was liar-nObama’s white half talking.) And the purpose of Sessions saying it revolves around long-standing etiquette. Here’s what DOJ spokesman Ian Prior had to say to rabble-rousing leftists: “As most law students learn in the first week of their first year, Anglo-American law — also known as the common law — is a shared legal heritage between England and America. The sheriff is unique to that shared legal heritage. Before reporters sloppily imply nefarious meaning behind the term, we would suggest that they read any number of the Supreme Court opinions that use the term. Or they could simply put ‘Anglo-American law’ into Google.”
Writing in National Review, Charles C. W. Cooke elaborates: “[Sessions’] talk was to sheriffs — about sheriffs. His subject was the ‘historic office’ that most of his audience filled. His point … was that, ‘since our founding, the independently elected sheriff’ has played a ‘critical’ role within a law enforcement system that developed in England and was then adopted in America. (‘Sheriff’ derives from a combination of the word ‘shire’ and the word ‘reeve.’) … Within the law, ‘Anglo-American’ does not mean ‘white.’ It does not mean ‘the KKK.’ It is not a ‘dog whistle.’ It is fundamental. It is used — shock! — to refer to those institutions, ideals, structures, and customs that are common to England and the United States.”
The Left’s real objective is to erase historical references to America’s institutions, ideals, structures and customs. That comes in many forms — whether it’s eviscerating statues or purging from our lexicon benign words they don’t like. ~The Patriot Post

{ tommclaughlin.blogspot.com } ~ This is the third winter during which, together with their mother and their other grandfather, I’ve been teaching four of my grandchildren to ski. Their mother was a racer during high school. The other grandfather is a retired principal who once coached a ski team. Their father comes as well when he can take time off from interning to become a teacher and running a contracting business. I’m a retired history teacher and former ski instructor.

We started with the older two, both girls, when they were five and four respectively. Last year, we began with their brothers — twin boys who were nearly four years old then and who will turn five in a couple of weeks. This year is more fun because all four can now ski on their own. No longer am I in perpetual snowplow with a child between my legs. No more must I follow one while holding a harness. All that was hard on my aging body.

This year I can I can get to know each of them better individually as we ride up on the lift together and talk. Then we slide off and experience the sheer joy of letting gravity pull us back down the hill as we shush from side to side — all the way to the bottom. We ski right back onto the lift because there are no lines to wait in. It’s up-and-down all morning, then into the lodge for lunch.

Every Tuesday is homeschoolers’s day at Shawnee Peak in Bridgton, Maine and we pretty much have the mountain to ourselves as homeschooling families from southern Maine predominate. We arrive about ten in the morning and leave around three in the afternoon — just as busloads of public school students arrive and noisily fill up the lodge. Every week I’m struck by the contrast in demeanor between homeschool and public school kids.

Susan Rice's Last-Minute CYA Email
In the email, Rice made notes about a meeting that occurred two weeks prior on Jan. 5, 2017, involving liar-nObama, then-FBI Director James Comey, then-Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates, loose lips-Joe Biden and Rice. The subject of the conversation was liar-nObama’s supposed desire that the FBI’s investigation into Donald Trump’s alleged collusion with Russia go “by the book.” According to Grassley and rino-Graham, the meeting also covered the phony Christopher Steele dossier — you know, the one funded by liar-Hillary Clinton and the DNC. No wonder “one source familiar with the meeting” denied it covered the dossier.
That date is significant because this meeting took place the day before Comey and the FBI visited Trump Tower to brief the president-elect on the investigation and the dossier, which had already been used to justify surveillance of Trump’s campaign. As Rice indicates, the meeting participants debated what and how much to tell Trump — liar-nObama wanted to hide some things.
Rice’s emphasis on liar-nObama’s “by the book” instruction particularly stinks of covering his rear, whether he actually said it or Rice embellished the recollection. Literally on the way out the White House door for the last time, Rice made it a priority to leave a paper trail confirming liar-nObama’s careful handling of the investigation. If anything had gone wrong — which we now know in great detail just how wrong it did go — that record would supposedly prove it wasn’t liar-nObama’s fault.
Grassley and rino-Graham wrote their own letter to Rice demanding answers to a few questions by Feb. 22. Those questions include some that are of the “what did you know and when did you know it?” variety. The answers — if Rice bothers to provide them — will be key in understanding more about the whole affair.

A federal judge partially granted a motion Monday by San Diego's Unified School District (SDUSD)... to strike references to the Council on American Islamic Relations' (CAIR) ties to Hamas from a lawsuit seeking to block the school system from working with CAIR. The Freedom of Conscience Defense Fund's (FCDF) claims the school district violated the First Amendment's Establishment Clause, the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment and California law by enacting a CAIR supported anti-Islamophobia/anti-bullying program last spring. Mentioning CAIR's Hamas ties in the litigation was "impertinent, immaterial and scandalous," school district officials claimed in December. Why Trump Was Right Not To Condemn Porter Right Away
.
We use the word “hostage” for a reason. Democrats generally despise Trump’s generous compromise offer, and as Sen. scum-Dick Durbin (D-IL) lectured, “Dreamers should not be held hostageto President Trump’s crusade to tear families apart and waste billions of American tax dollars on an ineffective wall.” Think about that for a moment: According to scum-Durbin and his Democrat cronies, people who are here illegally, in violation of American Rule of Law, are being “held hostage” to demands that the law be enforced.
Indeed, such “logic” motivates McConnell’s strategy. He knows all too well that Democrats will rabidly oppose any Republican plan because of both their Trump Derangement Syndrome and their hope to rally their own base with the immigration issue for the 2018 election. By all means, Democrats should counter Trump’s America First agenda with their platform of putting illegal aliens first. Or, as Hot Air’s Jazz Shaw put it, “It looks to me like McConnell is throwing Chuck clown-Schumer as much rope as he’s willing to take and inviting the Democrats to go hang themselves with it.”
That isn’t to say a path to citizenship for DACA recipients is especially controversial; we don’t think it is. (Expanding it beyond the initial 800,000 or so is another matter.) But it is to say that the vast majority of Americans see Trump’s proposal as eminently reasonable, while Democrats’ steadfast refusal to take “yes” for an answer is exposed as the fanatical and divisive partisanship that it is. ~The Patriot Post

{ townhall.com } ~ Candidate Donald Trump may have promised to extricate us from Middle East wars, once ISIS and al-Qaida were routed, yet events and people seem to be conspiring to keep us endlessly enmeshed.
Friday night, a drone, apparently modeled on a U.S. drone that fell into Iran's hands, intruded briefly into Israeli airspace over the Golan Heights, and was shot down by an Apache helicopter.
Israel seized upon this to send F-16s to strike the airfield whence the drone originated. Returning home, an F-16 was hit and crashed, unleashing the most devastating Israeli attack in decades on Syria. Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu says a dozen Syrian and Iranian bases and antiaircraft positions were struck.
Monday's headline on The Wall Street Journal op-ed page blared:
"The Iran-Israel War Flares Up: The fight is over a Qods Force presence on the Syria-Israeli border. How will the U.S. respond?"
Op-ed writers Tony Badran and Jonathan Schanzer, both from the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies, closed thus:
"The Pentagon and State Department have already condemned Iran and thrown their support behind Israel. The question now is whether the Trump administration will go further. ... Secretary of State Rex Tillerson has affirmed that the U.S. seeks not only to ensure its allies' security but to deny Iran its 'dreams of a northern arch' from Tehran to Beirut. A good way to achieve both objectives would be back Israel's response to Iran's aggression -- now and in the future."
The FDD is an annex of the Israeli lobby and a charter member of the War Party. Chagai Tzuriel, who heads the Israeli Ministry of Intelligence, echoed the FDD: "If you Americans are committed to countering Iran in the region, then you must do so in Syria -- first."
Our orders have been cut.
Iran has dismissed as "lies" and "ridiculous" the charge that it sent the drone into Israeli airspace.
If Tehran did, it would be an act of monumental stupidity. Not only did the drone bring devastating Israeli reprisals against Syria and embarrass Iran's ally Russia, it brought attacks on Russian-provided and possibly Russian-manned air defenses.
Moreover, in recent months Iranian policy -- suspending patrol boat harassment of U.S. warships -- appears crafted to ease tensions and provide no new causes for Trump to abandon the nuclear deal Prime Minister Hassan Rouhani regards as his legacy.
Indeed, why would Iran, which, with Assad, Russia and Hezbollah, is among the victors in Syria's six-year civil war, wish to reignite the bloodletting and bring Israeli and U.S. firepower in on the other side?
In Syria's southeast, another incident a week ago may portend an indefinite U.S. stay in that broken and bleeding country.
To recapture oil fields lost in the war, forces backed by Assad crossed the Euphrates into territory taken from ISIS by the U.S. and our Kurd allies. The U.S. response was a barrage of air and artillery strikes that killed 100 soldiers.
What this signals is that, though ISIS has been all but evicted from Syria, the U.S. intends to retain that fourth of Syria as a bargaining chip in negotiations.
In the northwest, Turkey has sent its Syrian allies to attack Afrin and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has threatened Manbij, 80 miles to the east, where U.S. troops commingle with the Kurd defenders and U.S. generals were visible last week.
Midweek, Erdogan exploded: "The Americans tell us, 'Don't come to Manbij.' We will come to Manbij to hand over these territories to their rightful owners."
The U.S. and Turkey, allies for six decades, with the largest armies in NATO, may soon be staring down each other's gun barrels.
Has President Trump thought through where we are going with this deepening commitment in Syria, where we have only 2,000 troops and no allies but the Kurds, while on the other side is the Syrian army, Hezbollah, Russia and Iran, and Shiite militias from Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan?
Clearly, we have an obligation not to abandon the Kurds, who took most of the casualties in liberating eastern Syria from ISIS. And we have a strategic interest in not losing Turkey as an ally.
But this calls for active diplomacy, not military action.
And now that the rebels have been defeated and the civil war is almost over, what would be the cost and what would be the prospects of fighting a new and wider war? What would victory look like?
Bibi and the FDD want to see U.S. power deployed alongside that of Israel, against Iran, Assad and Hezbollah. But while Israel's interests are clear, what would be the U.S. vital interest?
What outcome would justify another U.S. war in a region where all the previous wars in this century have left us bleeding, bankrupt, divided and disillusioned?
When he was running, Donald Trump seemed to understand this.

{ townhall.com } ~ In "Hamlet," Shakespeare pens one of the most familiar lines -- and best advice -- ever written. Before Laertes leaves for Paris, his father, Polonius, tells him: "Neither a borrower nor a lender be..."
We have ignored that advice for far too long, which is why the U.S. national debt is $20 trillion with more to come, thanks to the Republican Congress, which has passed a two-year spending bill that calls for $300 billion in new spending and removes caps applied by the Budget Control Act of 2011.
It's being sold to the public with the highest and purist motives. We need to support our "brave" men and women in uniform and repair our roads and bridges.
As Politico first reported, an audit revealed a Defense Department agency can't account for $800 million targeted for building projects. Worse, if that's possible, the Defense Logistics Agency has no paper trail and can't tell auditors where the money went. And Congress is going to give them more.
As for infrastructure, wasn't the liar-nObama "stimulus," otherwise known as the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, supposed to have fixed roads and bridges? It was more like a down payment because government never has enough of our money.
Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY), spoke the truth when he held up passage of the budget bill. As reported by The New York Times, Paul said: "I want people to feel uncomfortable. I want them to have to answer people at home who said, 'How come you were against President liar-nObama's deficits and then how come you're for Republican deficits?'"
Paul was the only Republican senator to vote against the measure which is expected to increase the debt to $30 trillion over the next decade, when probably all of those in the Senate will be dead or gone and won't have to take responsibility for it.
In addition to providing more money for the military, some Republicans are claiming with a straight face that this massive new spending is needed to finish repeal of liar-nObamacare. No one can seriously believe that, especially with all of the additional pork that is undoubtedly added on to this bill in order to gain "bipartisan" support. So if it's bipartisan, it must be good, right? Spending may be the last bipartisan act in Washington.
President Trump says if there were more Republicans in Congress the new spending and increased debt would not have happened. Maybe.
It's helpful to remind these free-spending Republicans what our Founders warned about the dangers of debt.
James Madison said: "Debts and taxes are the known instrument for bringing the many under the domination of the few" and "I go on the principle that a public debt is a public curse."
Thomas Jefferson spoke to the dangers of a government drunk on out-of-control spending that leads to increasing debt: "To preserve our independence, we must not let our rulers load us with perpetual debt. We must make our election between economy and liberty, or profusion and servitude."
Among the reasons empires and great nations have collapsed is public debt. Seeking to pacify the masses by never saying "no" to anything, politicians mortgage the future while preserving their current careers. Maybe America should change its initials from USA to ATM.
To invoke singer/songwriter Don McLean in a different context and applying it to modern politicians: "They would not listen they're not listening still; perhaps they never will."

{ truthrevolt.org } ~ President Donald Trump's plan to grant legal status, under certain conditions, for some 1.8 million "dreamers"... if he can get funding for a border wall and massive change to legal immigration is starting to pick up momentum on Capitol Hill. Senators voted 97-1 on Monday to begin debating the plan that has significant Republican support, including the backing of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, reports The Washington Post: McConnell endorsed a sweeping GOP plan that fulfills Trump’s calls to legalize the status of 1.8 million “dreamers,” spends at least $25 billion to bolster defenses along the U.S.-Mexico border, makes changes to family-based legal migration programs and ends a diversity lottery system used by immigrants from smaller countries. { townhall.com } ~ While American taxpayers were nestled snug in their beds congressional Republicans were plotting to pass the second largest spending increase in a decade.
The Republican-controlled Congress voted to raise caps on spending by $300 billion over the next two years. There are some estimates that suggest the bill will increase government spending by $1.5 trillion.
Shame on us for taking the Republicans at their word. These are the same rapscallions who promised to cut spending and reduce the size of government.
There is no question that the U.S. Armed Forces need every penny allocated in the budget. But domestic spending is out of control.
Republicans said they had no choice but to approve the spending increase because Democrats were willing to hold the military hostage.
Instead of standing their ground and taking their case to the American people, the Republicans capitulated to the demands of Nancy Pulosi and Chuck clown-Schumer.
The House Freedom Caucus and Sen. Rand Paul stood their ground and held the line for the American taxpayer. But I've come to the conclusion that Establishment Republicans have no intention of honoring their pledge to the taxpayers.
The Republicans told us they needed control of the House before they could get anything done. So we gladly gave them control of the House. But nothing ever got done.
Then, they told us they needed control of the Senate. So we happily gave them control of the Senate. But still, nothing ever got done.
Then, they told us they needed control of the White House. So we elected Donald J. Trump as the president of these great United States.
And it pains me to write this, but the government is still growing and spending is still out of control.
So you can imagine my frustration when the Republicans told us that if we really want to change the direction of Washington it will require MORE Republicans in Congress.
I'm reminded of an old Southern saying - fool me once shame on you -- fool me twice -- well - you're probably a Congressional Republican.

{ totalconservative.com } ~ If you needed any further evidence that we were in uncharted waters, let this be the last signal you need... In his quest to shine the bright light of truth on the FISA court abuses of the FBI and Justice Department, Rep. Devin Nunes said Thursday that he was thinking very seriously of doing something that had never been done before: Asking the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court to testify in front of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. In an interview with conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt, Nunes said the unprecedented step may be necessary because as the top man on the nation’s high court, John Roberts is responsible for appointing all judges to the FISA court. Nunes stressed that no final decision had been made about bringing Roberts to testify, but the mere suggestion of the possibility shows you how serious this investigation has become. “The chief justice appoints the FISA judges,” Hewitt noted. “Have you had a chance to chat with him or any of the FISA judges about what went on at the FISA court with regard to the Page application?”... http://totalconservative.com/unprecedented-nunes-bring-chief-justice-house-testify/
Taxpayers Scalped by Demos and Insurance Companies
Using her platform within the Democrats’ flock of mimicking parrots in the celebrity media, dinky-Warren, again, called for a Medicare system for all. By that, she means a government-run health care system that would hypothetically provide a universal plan — in other words, one that makes the government the customer as the entity that creates the rules and pays. The Democrat-presidential-wanna-be constructs an argument for socialized, government-controlled health care by claiming insurance companies have, through their evil cronyism, fleeced Americans of billions of dollars while offering substandard insurance policies for health care coverage.
Let’s get this right: It is because of government manipulation of one-sixth of the U.S. economy that we continue to see increasing prices in health care. When patients are not the customers and cannot make buying decisions for a service sought and rendered, prices end up being excessive. Want lower prices? Try the free market.
In fact, dinky-Warren stands as one of the barriers to creating the best health care at the most affordable price for the greatest number of people.
She bellowed last week about “wildly profitable” insurance companies that receive government subsidies — read: your tax dollars — as she demanded “fair treatment” for patients in her ongoing political argument for a single-payer health insurance system. But she neglected to mention that the “subsidies” to insurers that she correctly deems as cronyism are a result of a bill passed without a single Republican vote and signed into law by the previous Democrat president, Barack liar-nObama, in March 2010. To be fair, dinky-Warren isn’t directly responsible because she wasn’t in the Senate at the time liar-nObamaCare was foisted on us. That happened while Ms. Fake Indian Ancestry was still enjoying minority status on faculty at Harvard.
liar-nObamaCare came with the guarantee BIG Lie that you could keep your doctor and plan, if you so desired, and that every family would enjoy a minimum of a $2,500 annual savings on the cost of their insurance. None of these talking points materialized because nothing about the bill permitted those outcomes. Failed policy created a bloated bureaucracy and a market tied up with red tape instead of increased access to better health care for reasonable prices.
For some reason, we’re reminded of President Ronald Reagan’s famous line: “It isn’t so much that liberals are ignorant. It’s just that they know so many things that aren’t so.”
dinky-Warren’s line of attack isn’t new. In January at the Families USA Conference, the Massachusetts senator declared, “And as we wrestle with insurance companies to get them to treat their customers a little better, keep in mind on this that taxpayers are directly responsible for a huge proportion of those giant profits. The top insurers in the United States pull in nearly 60% of their total revenue from Medicare and Medicaid — that is more than $200 billion in 2016 revenues coming directly from American taxpayers.”
Now, who is the customer if the patient is insured via Medicaid, Medicare or liar-nObamaCare? Not the patient or consumer of health services. The customer in every one of these insurance policies that covers health services is the government. The government determines the coverage of each plan available. The government determines the reimbursement contract for medicines and services provided. The government pays the bill.
Not only does dinky-Warren have the market forces wrong, she and her fellow Democrats are feeding the failure. Unfortunately, it’s become a bipartisan affliction. While Republicans did repeal the individual mandate and ended the “death panels” that existed to ration care, many of these same politicians are also supporting billions of dollars more to be sent from the U.S. Treasury to bailout these insurance companies that lobbied for the failed policy of liar-nObamaCare. As a trio of policy experts from the Heritage Foundation and Galen Institute summed it up, a bipartisan effort is underway to infuse “new federal spending into the veins of insurance companies that are hemorrhaging red ink on the liar-nObamacare exchanges.”
As always in DC, the answer to government failure is more money and a bigger bureaucracy.
When the consumer is offered a service or product, he or she assesses the cost versus the benefit or need. Right now, there is no price transparency, as a rule, in health care. A few states are bravely knocking down the barrier to a free market of hidden costs of health care, but not at the federal level.
Currently, the buying power in the world of health insurance exists in the hands of the government — the federal or state government — not individuals. When more than 60% of the insurance business comes through a government entity, individuals have no voice.
Democrats are responsible for America’s less-than-optimal health care system because they created and enabled failure in a critical aspect of our economy that is controlled by corporate welfare and socialistic control. dinky-Warren ignores that inconvenient truth.
Reagan, again, was right when he surmised, “Government is not a solution to our problem, government is the problem.” Empower patients through effective policy that creates a consumer-driven health care system, not government-controlled health insurance policies. ~The Patriot Post

{ judicialwatch.org } ~ The radical Islamic scholar that liar-Hillary Clinton let back into the U.S. after a lengthy ban over terrorist ties is in jail on rape charges... This week a judge in France denied bail for liar-Clinton’s pal, Tariq Ramadan, the grandson of Muslim Brotherhood founder and Hamas funder Hassan al Banna. Ramadan, a professor at Oxford University, was arrested in Paris last week and charged with raping two Muslim women. Both women were raped in France, according to a European news report. The first one, a 40-year-old disabled Muslim convert claims Ramadan raped and beat her in the southeastern city of Lyon in 2009 and the other, a 41-year-old feminist activist, says Ramadan raped her in Paris in 2012. A respected Swiss newspaper, Tribune de Genève, has also reported that Ramadan seduced and had sexual relations with teenage girls at a Geneva school where he once taught. The women say Ramadan told them they were special before having sex with them in the back of his car. One of the women was 14 at the time and the others were 15 to 18 years old. They say Ramadan used his authority as their teacher to seduce them. Oxford University placed Ramadan on a leave of absence after the rape allegations surfaced as well as other accusations of assault and sexual harassment. “Professor Ramadan’s teaching, supervising and examining duties will be reassigned, and he will not be present at the University or College,” reads a statement issued by Oxford in early November. “The University has consistently acknowledged the gravity of the allegations against Professor Ramadan, while emphasising the importance of fairness and the principles of justice and due process.” As Barack liar-nObama’s Secretary of State liar-Clinton, a self-proclaimed women’s rights activist her liar-Hillary for America policy included confronting violence against women and has a section on sexual assault went to bat for Ramadan... https://www.judicialwatch.org/blog/2018/02/radical-islamic-scholar-hillary-let-back-u-s-sec-state-jailed-rape/?utm_source=deployer&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=tipsheet&utm_term=members&utm_content=20180212231059

{ truthrevolt.org } ~ On Wednesday night Israelis received yet another demonstration of the country’s desperate need for legal reform.
The media in Israel – like their counterparts in the US – tout themselves as democracy’s watchdogs. But on Wednesday night, we saw once again that our fiercest journalists are actually the lapdogs of our unelected legal fraternity, whose members share their hatred for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and their general attachment to the ideological Left.
Wednesday night’s primetime news broadcasts all opened with the sensational news that the police’s top investigators from the Lahav 433 unit – Israel’s equivalent of the FBI – were sitting at that very moment with Police Commissioner Roni Alsheich to decide what crimes to recommend Attorney-General Avichai Mandelblit indict Netanyahu for.
According to police leakers, their intention is to recommend that Mandelblit indict Netanyahu for at least one count of bribery.
Netanyahu allegedly helped his old friend Hollywood movie mogul Arnon Milchen renew his US visa. Over the years, Milchen allegedly showered Netanyahu and his wife, Sara, with cigars and champagne.
An hour after the news broadcasts all ended, Israel’s flagship investigative news magazine Uvda broadcast a slickly edited, hour-long interview its anchor, Ilana Dayan, conducted over several weeks with Alsheich.
To be clear, Dayan’s interview wasn’t a complete love-fest. She asked Alsheich several biting questions. But overall, Dayan did everything she could to present Alsheich as a hero, a self-made man and all all-around awesome guy.
Dayan devoted a long portion of her interview to Alsheich’s tragic loss of his beloved mother when he was 14. Barely holding back his tears, Alsheich told Dayan that he decided not to let his loss hold him back, and then humbly bragged that he basically raised himself after she passed away.
Dayan spent another long sequence of her interview with Alsheich discussing his role as a Shin Bet interrogator in the tragic Nachshon Wachsman affair.
In 1994, Hamas terrorists kidnapped IDF Cpl. Nachshon Wachsman, a paratrooper hitching a ride on the side of the highway in central Israel.
At the time, Alsheich was a Shin Bet investigator. It turns out that he was the officer who interrogated the Wachsman’s kidnappers’ accomplices. Through them, the Shin Bet located the house near Ramallah where Wachsman was being held, and learned the conditions of his confinement.
Then-prime minister and defense minister Yitzhak Rabin and then-IDF chief of General Staff Ehud Barak ordered the IDF’s elite reconnaissance unit Sayeret Matkal to storm the house and rescue Wachsman. The rescue attempt failed, Wachsman was murdered and one of his rescuers, Capt. Nir Poraz, was killed in the raid. The Wachsman episode was a national tragedy that traumatized the entire country.
By placing Alsheich at the center of the drama, and superimposing video images of Rabin on her conversation with Alsheich, Dayan presented Alsheich as the unsung hero of the national tragedy. In so doing, she effectively rendered him untouchable.
Once she built Alsheich up as a hero, she shifted her attention to the Netanyahu probes. And when Alsheich began to speak, you understood why he needed the buildup.
Not to put too fine a point on it, but Alsheich sounded like a tin foil hat conspiracy theorist when he started talking about his probes of the prime minister.
Alsheich presented Dayan with four separate criminal conspiracies, all of which he either directly or indirectly claimed are Netanyahu’s handiwork. It is important to note that each of the conspiracies he alleged involve crimes far graver than accepting too many cigars from an old friend. And none of them is currently being investigated.
The first conspiracy theory he presented as fact was his claim that Netanyahu arranged for private detectives to gather dirt on the police officers investigating him.
Alsheich said that “very powerful forces” hired private detectives who “were wandering around the investigators” and “sniffing about.” He then said that Dayan was “correct” when she asked if the targeted officers were involved in the Netanyahu probe.
The second conspiracy Alsheich attested to surrounds a female police officer referred to as “Z.” In 2011, Z. filed a sexual harassment complaint against Police Ch.-Sup. Roni Reitman, commander of Lahav 433. Z. alleged that Reitman sexually harassed her on three occasions. There were witnesses to two of the alleged incidents. The police’s internal affairs unit administered lie detector tests for Z. and Reitman. She passed hers. He failed his. The investigators recommended indicting Reitman.
After sitting on the file for four years, in 2015 then-attorney-general Yehuda Weinstein closed the case, citing the long period that had passed since the alleged harassment took place.
Alsheich responded to Weinstein’s decision by immediately instating Reitman as the commander of Lahav 433. At the urging of her commander, in 2016 Z. petitioned the High Court of Justice and asked the justices to order Alsheich to fire Reitman. Last year, the court ruled in Z.’s favor and gave Alsheich 60 days to fire Reitman.
Alsheich responded to Z’s petition to the court by referring to her as a “criminal.” He opened a disciplinary tribunal against Z. and her commander, claiming they spent too much time together.
Reitman’s lawyers alleged Netanyahu put Z. up to submitting the petition in a plot to force Reitman off his case. Alsheich has repeatedly expressed his agreement with Reitman’s allegation.
In his interview with Dayan, Alsheich said, “I want Reitman’s claims to be investigated.”
Attorney Chai Bar-El who represents Z. responded cynically to Alsheich’s and Reitman’s conspiracy claim in an interview last month with Mida online magazine.
“It’s good that Alsheich’s conspiracy didn’t start in 2011, and that he isn’t claiming that Z. was sent ‘to seduce’ Reitman so that [Netanyahu] would have a card in his future investigations,” Bar-El said.
The third Netanyahu conspiracy Alsheich alleged in his interview with Dayan is that Netanyahu is spreading false rumors about tensions in Alsheich’s relationship with Mandelblit in order to intimidate police investigators.
A few weeks ago, Reshet news on Channel 13 reported that Mandelblit told his associates that if Netanyahu is tried and found innocent, his acquittal will destroy the legal system. When Dayan asked Alsheich about the report, Alsheich insisted it was false and introduced his third conspiracy.
“Maybe someone wanted the investigators to think that this is what Mandelblit said,” he said.
Dayan responded with amazement, “Did Netanyahu engineer this also?”
Alsheich answered coyly, “Did I say Netanyahu?”
Alsheich’s final conspiracy is his allegation that Netanyahu effectively offered him a bribe when he appointed him police commissioner.
Alsheich was serving as deputy director of the Shin Bet when Netanyahu appointed him police chief in 2015. Alsheich had made no secret of his desire to be promoted to Shin Bet director. Alsheich told Dayan that Netanyahu told him upon his appointment that he would appoint him Shin Bet director if he is still prime minister when Alsheich finishes his tour of duty at the police.
In response to Alsheich’s interview, Netanyahu reinstated his frequent demand that Alsheich’s allegations be investigated. Netanyahu noted that with investigators convinced that he is the functional equivalent of a mafia boss, there is no way he can expect to receive fair treatment.
And again, every one of Alsheich’s alleged conspiracies is on its face an exponentially more serious offense than accepting a bunch of cigars and champagne from an old buddy.
Dayan asked Alsheich why he isn’t investigating his own allegations. Alsheich answered dismissively that an investigation “doesn’t serve the current interests of our central probe.”
Alsheich made the even more bizarre claim that the conspiracies are nothing to worry about, because simply by exposing them to the public, he put a stop to them.
This assertion is particularly distressing because it exposes the police chief’s profound ignorance of the basic precepts of law enforcement.
If Alsheich were able to stop a gang of bank robbers from committing further bank heists by going public with their operation, would that mean that he should let them off the hook for their previous robberies?
THE POLICE INVESTIGATIONS of Netanyahu bear an extraordinary resemblance to the US special counsel’s probe of allegations that Russia colluded with the Trump campaign during the 2016 presidential elections. But there is one major difference. In Israel there is no equivalent to congressional oversight of the executive branch.
Last weekend, the US experienced a public and constitutional earthquake with the publication of the so-called Nunes memo. The memo summarizes the findings of the House Select Committee on Intelligence’s probe of senior FBI and Justice Department officials’ apparent abuse of their power in pursuit of a surveillance warrant against a campaign adviser to then candidate Donald Trump.
It showed that those top officials hid from the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court judges the fact that the basis for their surveillance request was a dossier prepared by the private investigations firm Fusion GPS that was paid for by the Democratic National Committee and Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign.
The Nunes memo is an earthquake because it showed that the top echelons of the American law enforcement community committed a grave breach of trust and undermined basic democratic norms. The information that has come to light during the course of the congressional probes makes clear these top officials were motivated to act as they did by their partisan convictions and deep-seated animus toward Trump and his supporters.
FROM AN Israeli perspective, the most extraordinary aspect of the Intelligence Committee probe and the parallel probes being conducted by other House and Senate committees is that they are taking place at all.
The US Constitution provides for freedom of the press, understanding the key role a free press is capable of playing in a democracy. But the constitution empowers Congress with oversight powers over the executive branch.
In Israel the Knesset holds no such power. Likud lawmakers have no oversight power. They cannot force Alsheich to explain the basis for his claims that Netanyahu put Z. up to petitioning the High Court. They cannot make him support his claim that Netanyahu hired private detectives to spy on his investigators. They cannot investigate the hemorrhage of leaks from police investigators that deny Netanyahu the basic rights of criminal suspects and the presumption of innocence.
They cannot subpoena police communications to discover the motive for Lahav 433’s decision to investigate Netanyahu and not investigate other politicians against whom far weightier allegations have been leveled.
Wednesday night was an eye opener for many Israelis who saw for the first time Alsheich’s conspiratorial obsession with Netanyahu.
But in the absence of a major overhaul of the legal system in a manner that provides the Knesset with the tools to oversee the executive branch and the judiciary, nothing will be done to remedy the situation, and the future of Israel’s democratic system will continue to rely on the goodwill of our unelected, unaccountable attorney-general.
Opinion in Brief
Burt Prelutsky: “Each time I see footage of the Democrats at Trump’s State of the Union speech I’m reminded of those sneering football players who spent the season getting more attention for what they were doing on the sidelines than what they were doing on the field. The 242 Democrats (49 senators, 193 House members) who sat on their hands even when Trump pledged to support family leave, something not even liar-nObama called for, may have thought they were expressing their disapproval of the man, but I suspect that a great many Americans saw it for what it was; they were showing their contempt for those of us who had elected the man at the podium. They were taking a knee and giving the rest of us the finger. Perhaps the most telling moment came when Nancy Pulosi turned to glare over her right shoulder and appeared to be making sure that none of her stooges were caught applauding for veterans, an end to chain migration or the Pledge of Allegiance.” ~The Patriot Post

{ townhall.com } ~ No, we don’t need to go to paper ballots because we didn’t get hacked. The Wall Street Journal’s Peggy Noonan suggested on NBC’s Meet The Press over the weekend that we should start transitioning to paper ballots to avoid a possible partisan crackup in America if an election is contested based on such an event (via RCP):
PEGGY NOONAN: I would say, here's my big concern. We are, as we all know, a deeply divided country. We have these partisan fights, they're very rough and tough, this side watches this, the other side watches this, we're not in the same information flow. One thing that could damage this nation terribly is having a national election where the outcome is unclear because we got hacked.
The states is a national election. By the year 2020, right away we should start saying, "You've got to go paper ballots." We'll figure out all this Internet magic, technological stuff, but for now, paper ballots in America so Ohio knows how it voted.
Yet, vote tallies weren’t hacked; the Department of Homeland Security said so last year. Even the liar-nObama administration said that the “will of the American people” was reflected in the 2016 election, with the DHS noting they did not detect “any increased level of malicious cyber activity aimed at disrupting our electoral process on Election Day.”
The Washington Post also reported after the 2016 election that it’s virtually impossible to hack an American election:
That's the question at its root: Could hackers change the numbers to change our elections? The Fix spoke by phone and email with Merle King, executive director of the Center for Election Systems at Kennesaw State University to get an answer. In summary: It would be harder than we think — in part because we tend to conflate a number of very different election systems.
"One of the challenges the public has in sorting through the various threads of the current election cycle's stories is understanding the differences between a campaign system, an election system and a voting system," King told us.
The campaign system is the tool set used by candidates or parties to get people elected. The election system covers voter registration systems and other data centralization and is specific to jurisdictions. The voting system is the actual process of voting: the machines, the ballots and the designations of who votes where and on what. Information flows between these systems, but not always in two directions: Campaigns, for example, use voter registration data from the elections system but don't send information back to it. So if a campaign is hacked or if the Democratic National Committee is, there's no risk to the voter registration database.
Confusing these systems can mean misunderstanding the threat — and the intent of the hackers. Take what happened in Arizona or Illinois, where voter files were lifted from the election system.
"When I hear about a hack, and it's attributed to a Russian IP address, my first reaction is it's identity theft," King said. "They're looking for large lists of critical information that can be used to create identities for credit card theft, etc. I don't instinctively think it's an attack on our election system."
The important point King makes is that hacking the elections system and the voting system are very different in nature and effect. "If the election systems were hacked, there are paper backups of the electors list — every precinct has to maintain a paper copy of the voter list — so you could disrupt an election by attacking those election systems," he said. "But most importantly, you could not alter the outcome of the election by hacking those systems. That would have to occur in the voting system" — the actual process of casting ballots. And that's harder than it seems.
The publication then listed how Florida verifies its results. The 49 other states have a similar process. It’s not as easy as the media and Democrats are making it out to be on television.
In Pennsylvania, which was a target of Green Party candidate’s Jill Stein’s failed recount effort, no evidence of tampering were found, backing up DHS claims. Also, to actually tamper with an election result in the Keystone State, you’d have to mess with the 4,500 voting machines, which experts say would take four months to do it successfully. That’s only after you’ve been able to break into the secure facility where all the voting machines are stored, which is under 24-hour surveillance (via CBS Pittsburgh):
“We have not seen any evidence that anything has been compromised since we had the machines,” Allegheny County Director of Elections Mark Wolosik said.
There are a lot of reasons for that. Let’s say you could break into the machines and reprogram them to favor a candidate.
The first issue,” Wolosik says is, “They are an island unto themselves. They are not connected to any other machine.”
So any manipulations would have to be one machine at a time, which Dr. Shamos estimates would take 15 minutes per machine, with 4,500 machines.
“To do it for all the machines in the county would take four months,” said Dr. Shamos.
It would also have to be done undetected in a warehouse that is under surveillance 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.
Over the past week, the election machines have moved from the warehouse to the polling places.
“Prior to leaving our warehouse, they are sealed with an individually numbered seal that is recorded,” Wolosik said.
Then, on the morning of the election, the poll workers compare the number to the seal.
“If there are any discrepancies, they are not to use that machine and to call our office immediately,” said Wolosik

One other safeguard – while voting is going on, an independent accounting agency randomly selects a voting machine somewhere in the county and tests it to see if there’s any Trojan horse software running on it.
So, can we bring down the paper ballot-Russia hacking hysteria down a few notches?
