Some Liberties Are More Equal Than Others 
One day before the Supreme Court ruled on same-sex marriage, ACLU deputy legal director Louise Melling wrote of the organization's newly announced hostility to Christians and religious liberty, specifically regarding its withdrawal of support for the Religious Freedom Restoration Act. "The ACLU supported the RFRA's passage at the time because it didn't believe the Constitution, as newly interpreted by the Supreme Court, would protect people ... whose religious expression does not harm anyone else. But we can no longer support the law in its current form. For more than 15 years, we have been concerned about how the RFRA could be used to discriminate against others. As the events of the past couple of years amply illustrate, our fears were well-founded. While the RFRA may serve as a shield to protect [some], it is now often used as a sword to discriminate against women, gay and transgender people and others. ... Yes, religious freedom needs protection. But religious liberty doesn't mean the right to discriminate or to impose one's views on others." It's not exactly surprising that the ACLU would find a way to oppose such laws once Christians found refuge in them. But this is an organization that has gone to bat for the KKK and the American Nazi Party. And the irony is too much: Melling decries the imposition of views while having no problem with homosexuals forcing bakers, photographers and florists to provide their services against their consciences. Now that the Supreme Court has found a constitutional right to same-sex marriage, more imposition and discrimination will occur. And the ACLU will be leading the charge. Puerto Rico Wants a Pass on $72 Billion Debt
"Death spiral" — that's how Puerto Rico Governor Alejandro García Padilla describes the commonwealth's debt. Over the last few years, the island racked up a debt of $72 billion, or 3.5 times the amount that bankrupted Detroit. Padilla, who once vowed to repay the loans accrued by his and past administrations, now says it's impossible and creditors should "share the sacrifices." Problem is, Puerto Rico has been a popular place for retirees to invest because the commonwealth’s bonds are tax-free. The problem becomes stickier, as Puerto Rico cannot file for Chapter 9 bankruptcy. The island used to be an economic powerhouse, filled with manufacturing and a vibrant port. But Deepak Lamba-Nieves, research director for the think tank Center for a New Economy, said in 2013, "You cannot pay daily expenses with your credit card, and that's what Puerto Rico has been doing for years. We borrowed just to keep the lights on." Padilla doesn't appear ready to make the difficult cuts, firing government workers, tightening its belt and getting serious about the debt. Like Detroit, Puerto Rico was destroyed by liberal politicians and their failed economic theories. Now, some will say the only way to save the commonwealth is with a bailout. Barack nObama says he won't do so, but don't be surprised if he proposes to "fix" the problem by floating Puerto Rico statehood again — in order to firm up some Latino support. While the offer is hollow, a narcissist like nObama would certainly be pleased with a legacy of altering the American flag.

Brady Center's Frivolous Suit Against Ammo Company Backfires
After the massacre at the Aurora movie theater, The Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence went after the company from which the murderer bought his ammunition. The center filed suit against Lucky Gunner because it sold its ammunition online, arguing that's "unreasonably dangerous and create[s] a public nuisance." But not only did the judge disagree, he reprimanded the Brady Center because he said it was filing suit simply to make a high-profile political point. Judge Richard Matsch wrote in his ruling, "It is apparent that this case was filed to pursue the political purposes of the Brady Center and, given the failure to present any cognizable legal claim, bringing these defendants into the Colorado court where the prosecution of James Holmes was proceeding appears to be more of an opportunity to propagandize the public and stigmatize the defendants than to obtain a court order." Furthermore, Matsch said the Brady Center had to pay Lucky Gunner's legal fees. Lucky Gunner said those funds would be donated to pro-Second Amendment groups. For groups with deep pockets and a bitterness toward Liberty, an effective strategy is to silence the lovers of Liberty through suits, frivolous or no. All Isn't Lost, as SCOTUS Rebukes EPA The Supreme Court proved it still has a little bit of respect left for Rule of Law in its decision yesterday in Michigan v. EPA. In a 5-4 ruling that predictably followed partisan lines with Justice Anthony Kennedy swinging to the right, the High Court ruled that the Environmental Protection Agency did not properly consider the high costs of regulation of emissions from coal-fired power plants.
That this Court — the one content to rewrite nObamaCare in order to save it, twice — found the EPA went too far in rewriting the law is saying something.
The EPA, which has been pursuing the ecofascist dream of completely wiping the coal industry off the face of the earth, released a series of regulations in 2012 that would force energy producers to comply with limits on mercury and air toxins released in coal energy production. The National Federation of Independent Business said the regulations, known as Mercury and Air Toxics Standards (MATS), are among the costliest ever issued.
The EPA estimated the new rules would cost close to $10 billion annually, while bringing direct annual benefits of no more than $6 million. Bureaucrats also made the un-provable assertion that the rules would prevent up to 11,000 premature deaths and 130,000 asthma cases each year. In developing its regulations, the EPA was expected to adhere to the Clean Air Act’s “appropriate and necessary” standard. But the agency arbitrarily determined that cost had no bearing in the development of the regulations, essentially flouting the decades-old law and choosing to make up its own rules. The EPA determined that its work protecting the environment justified whatever actions it saw fit. -The Patriot Post

But not to worry — the former secretary of state swore that she had diligently preserved and passed to the State Department every email she had written in the course of her job. Even though she destroyed all the evidence by wiping the server afterward, she assured the public that everything related to her conduct of official business had been kept and turned over, as the law requires. ACLU No Longer Supports Religious Freedom for Christians

Why Mitch McCon-nell Is So Utterly Useless – In His Own Words

Iran Repatriates 13 Tons of Gold Under Sanctions Relief
(Adam Kredo) ~ Iranian officials said Monday that the Islamic Republic’s Central Bank has successfully repatriated 13 tons of gold as part of a package of sanctions relief provided to Iran by U.S. and Western powers... The gold was transferred to Iran by the government of South Africa, which had been holding onto the assets due to harsh sanctions meant to pressure Tehran to rein in its rogue nuclear program. The gold appears to have been released as part of a sanctions relief package that will have awarded Iran nearly $12 billion in unfrozen cash assets by the time negotiations wrap up next week. Iran received $4.2 billion in unfrozen assets under the 2013 interim agreement with the United States and was then given another $2.8 billion by the nObama administration last year in a bid to keep Tehran committed to the talks. Union, Teacher Greed Force Mass Layoffs In Chicago
(rickwells.us) ~ Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel has a tough job managing a Democrat Ponzi scheme that is imploding, his city’s budget. On Wednesday the Mayor was forced to take drastic measures by an immovable Chicago Teachers Union and state-mandated pension payments... Something had to give and that something is the education of Chicago’s already underserved youth. Grand proclamations are made about how the system fails, with responsibility always being shifted away from the Democrats who are running things into the ground and towards an open palm of federal bailouts. The real bailout is the hypocrisy of the greedy, over-compensated educators and the parasitic union officials. Elections have consequences and buying electoral success is expensive for the city that inevitably coughs up the dough for the backroom deals made. With not enough money to go around and the first priority being the payment of pensions to retired teachers, Emanuel was forced to announce on Wednesday that 1,400 teachers and staff would be losing their jobs. The city’s pension debt is roughly $634 million and the layoffs will account for $200 million. Sanders vows “to make tuition in public colleges and universities free.” Do you agree that the 68 percent of Americans without college degrees should pay the tuition for those whose degrees will bring them lifetime earnings significantly higher than the earnings of the noncollege graduates who will have paid much of the cost of the “free” tuition?

Another progressive goal is “debt-free college.” The average amount owed by the 69 percent of graduates with college debt is $28,400, which is $11,000 more than the difference between what a college graduate and a high school graduate earn in one year of employment. So, what exactly is the student debt “crisis”?

Sanders favors a $15 minimum wage. Do you? Why not $16? Democrats are — we know because they say so — respectful of science, including, presumably, economics. So, do you agree with nObama that ATMs and airport ticket kiosks cause unemployment?

Finally: Having said, “It is tempting to dismiss the Charleston shooting as an isolated incident,” you resisted that temptation and detected in the incident large social symptoms. Do you believe, as nObama now says, that racism is in America’s “DNA,” meaning it is encoded in our nation’s nature?

I seem to have less and less time every day to appreciate the things that are truly important and many of us seem to be losing track of what those things are as we are constantly assailed by forces trying to dismantle what we have built. There is a movement afoot to conceal from young citizens the how and why of America’s founding and the principles that have made this country great.
Today the Ten Commandments must not be displayed on Public Property, not because they offend but because they remind us that freedom to worship God is why people came here to begin with; that our country was and is based on Christian principles no matter what those who want to tear it down say. These beliefs are why 56 men with everything to lose appealed ”to the Supreme Judge of the World” …”with a full reliance on the protection of divine Providence” and mutually pledged “to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor” in Congress on July 4, 1776 as they severed ties from England declaring our Independence. On that day they claimed “the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Natures God” entitle us and declared further that we “are endowed by our Creator with certain unalienable Rights”.
Our founding and laws are clearly based on the principles in the Ten Commandments. That is why the enemy within is trying to suppress them and convince people that the First Amendment means something completely different from the words printed in our Constitution, which are;
Amendment 1 December 15, 1791
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of people to peacefully assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
There are no restrictions in the First Amendment on citizens when it comes to Religion, Speech, Assembly or the Press. The only restrictions I see are on Congress. Since all Federal Law must be made by Congress, any Federal Law that restricts Religion, Assembly or the Press would be unconstitutional and invalid. If your conscience compels you to disobey laws restricting those things I think the spirits of Martin Luther King jr, Mahatma Gandhi, and the men who signed the Declaration of Independence would be cheering you on.
I wish you all a happy July 4th and hope this short reminder unleashes a little of the rebel spirit that started the amazing experiment that is the United States of America

Entirely justified by the 9th and 10th Amendments, a surefire and sensible solution to judicial overreach is STATE NULLIFICATION, an action which constitutionally renders a judicial ruling "null, void and of no legal effect" within the sovereign territory of a nullifying State. However, the efficacy of this perfectly legitimate remedy relies upon the existence of State leaders with spine and principle.
In the longer term, expedited passage of a constitutional amendment which would enable a majority of State legislatures to overrule ANY supreme court ruling within 6 months of issuance must be initiated either by Congress or, per Art V of the Constitution, by the States themselves. This, of course, would constitute a permanent means of checkmating a runaway judicial oligarchy.

So, what shall clear-eyed Patriots do to remedy this tyranny in order to restore constitutional order? Vested in the People themselves and condoned by our Founders, Civil Disobedience, Rebellion and Secession are perfectly legitimate and sacrosanct remedies to tyranny.
I believe we have breached that tipping point.

nObama's Funeral Platform for Gun Control 
On Friday, Barack nObama delivered the eulogy for Rev. Clementa Pinckney, the slain pastor of Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston. Naturally, he exploited the occasion — metaphorically stood on Pinckney's casket — to repeat the need for his policy preferences, namely more gun control. "For too long, we've been blind to the unique mayhem that gun violence inflicts upon this nation," nObama thundered. "Sporadically, our eyes are open: When eight of our brothers and sisters are cut down in a church basement, 12 in a movie theater, 26 in an elementary school. But I hope we also see the 30 precious lives cut short by gun violence in this country every single day; the countless more whose lives are forever changed. ... The vast majority of Americans — the majority of gun owners — want to do something about this. ... None of us should believe that a handful of gun safety measures will prevent every tragedy. ... But it would be a betrayal of everything Reverend Pinckney stood for, I believe, if we allowed ourselves to slip into a comfortable silence again." In this instance, he did mention the lives lost every day — though he neglected the fact that they're black lives lost to the gang culture festering on his own party'surban poverty plantations. But he doesn't speak at their funerals. That's because he couldn't make the blacks who murder other blacks into the supposed carbon copies of the racist Charleston murderer, as he did with whites across the nation that twice elected him president. nObama's race-baiting, anti-gun tirade was despicable, and all the more so because of the true grace shown by the families of the Charleston victims. -The Patriot Post

One Year Later, Islamic State ‘Caliphate’ Remains Entrenched
In theory, declaring a caliphate should have painted a huge target on the Islamic State's back. But after the group (née "the JV team") announced that it established a caliphate in Iraq and Syria last June, it has continued to hold onto its territory as the coalition fighting the jihadists slowly picks away at the "state." Indeed, Islamic State-linked jihadists have launched attacks as far away as Pakistan, Algeria and Yemen, and those inspired by the Islamic State have struck both the U.S. and Europe. Now, officials in Afghanistan say the group is in that country, placing the Islamic State in competition with the Taliban over whose caliphate should be established. However, the Islamic State's strategy has made it less of a threat to the United States than al-Qaida, writes Scott Stewart for Stratfor Global Intelligence. "Al Qaeda argues that the caliphate can be established only after the United States and its European allies have been defeated, to the extent that they can no longer interfere in Muslim lands… The Islamic State takes the opposite tack. It has adopted a more urgent 'why wait?' approach and concentrates its efforts on immediately taking, holding and governing territory." This comes as the levels of terrorism at home and abroad are on the rise and as Independence Day weekend coincides with the month of Ramadan. Greeks Scramble for Cash as Financial Crisis Comes to a Head
Fourteen years ago, Greece entered the Eurozone by using a Trojan Horse: It doctored its finances to make them appear more stable than they actually were. For a run of a few years, the country let its finances go. The party ended during the Great Recession as the country needed bailout after bailout to keep the partial-archipelago afloat. Now, the piper must be paid. But instead of tightening belts and making the tough decisions to get out of debt and onto firm footing, the Greeks elected the Syriza Party to power because it promised that it would lessen the burden of debt by resisting the demands for reform and negotiating further with the nation's creditors. But those talks with the creditors broke down over the weekend and Greece may be booted from the Eurozone. On hearing the news, Greeks started lining up at ATMs, withdrawing as much money as they could before the cash ran out. In response, Greece started capital controls, keeping banks closed this week. "Appeasing Syriza's demands could spread political contagion to Spain, Portugal and other countries that might think they too can avoid reform and still be rescued," writes The Wall Street Journal editorial board. "A last-minute reprieve is possible, but if not the Greeks will have committed suicide by ignoring economic reality. Voters in Europe, Japan and the U.S., take note." As we watch the slow-motion crash of Greece, we should remember that this nation has a growing debt that is being made larger by growing entitlement spending. Having Dispensed With God, Leftists Now Aim for Christians 1-2-3-4-5. Five leftist lawyers, currently abusing their authority as Supreme Court Justices, unleashed their activism upon the U.S. Constitution Friday and created a non-existent right to same-sex marriage. The Fourteenth Amendment may provide equal protection under the law, but by applying it to expand the definition of marriage the Court has created a constitutional crisis in America. The First and Tenth Amendments, which respectively promise freedom of individual religion and award jurisdiction to the States of all powers not enumerated in the Constitution, have now been placed in direct conflict with the Fourteenth Amendment.

In 2008, homosexual couples could enter into a legal, binding contract for shared property, power of attorney for making health care decisions, probate of wills, etc., and were, in most cases, receiving health care benefits from employers. These same homosexual couples were consummating their relationship in the privacy of their own domicile without harassment.
In 2008, Christians could speak their opinions and stand on their faith while understanding their voice was respected in the public square. In 2015, however, those same Christians are in grave danger of losing legal standing because their beliefs are pitted against a brand new, heretofore undiscovered constitutional right. Alabama Chief Justice Issues Order in Defiance of Supreme Court

The court issued an order on Monday that essentially prohibits probate judges in the state from issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples for 25 days. nObama Concessions to Iran Worse than Previously Known
(Clare Lopez) ~ To no one’s surprise, the nuclear talks with Iran that were supposed to produce an agreement by tomorrow have been extended. Critics of the nuclear deal sought by President nObama fear that this will be a dangerous deal because of too many one sided U.S. concessions to Iran... These include allowing Iran to enrich uranium and build advanced enrichment centrifuges while an agreement is in force. Iran will keep all of its nuclear infrastructure, including a plutonium-producing heavy-water reactor. (It is supposed to be re-engineered to produce less plutonium.) Iran also will be allowed to keep its entire stockpile of the uranium it’s already enriched (although it’s supposed to dilute it down to a form less-readily usable to make a bomb). Nor does Iran have to come clean about its past nuclear weapons work. And the U.S. reportedly has now pledged to provide Iran technical assistance to further develop its nuclear program.

nObama’s Unconstitutional Schemes to Nationalize Police

As the company described it, their new solution “uses two Carrier AquaForce(r) 30XWV water-cooled chillers with Greenspeed(r) intelligence, each with 580 kilowatts of capacity. Here’s the lesson about air-conditioning capitalists that Pope Francis fails to appreciate: Carrier’s technological know-how and breakthroughs didn’t just descend from the clouds. As I recount in my latest book, “Who Built That,” every perfectly chilled home, office, movie theater, mall, factory, hospital, lab and museum owes its existence to the profit-seeking pioneers of manufactured weather: Willis Carrier and Irvine Lyle.

These early 20th-century inventive giants brought air-conditioning to the market and to the masses. Willis Carrier was the scientist-tinkerpreneur whose prolific stream of experiments and epiphanies, beginning in 1902, fueled historic technological advances in heating, refrigeration and air-conditioning. Irvine Lyle was the mechanical engineer-turned-salesman who imagined countless new commercial applications for Carrier’s work — and successfully turned those ideas into a multibillion-dollar business through relentless promotion, pitches, networking, advertising and outreach.

The scientists and their core team begged, borrowed and made stock sales to friends and neighbors. Carrier even enlisted his dentist for cash to get Carrier Engineering Corporation up and running in 1915. Carrier, Lyle and five founding engineers together pitched in $32,600 in start-up funds. .
The Carrier capitalists risked it all in defiance of an economic depression and amid the tumult of world war. They couldn’t afford their own factory and scrounged for made-to-order parts wherever they could find them. They dug into their own pockets to cover salary shortfalls. The wealth wasn’t handed to them. Carrier and Lyle, farm boys who both graduated from Cornell, drove their men hard and themselves harder.

The Carrier team sold its products to businesses, large and small, that spanned the spectrum of human needs and wants. The pope should know that in addition to sparing countless lives from death by heat wave, Carrier designed a special system for Jonas Salk that helped maintain constant temperatures in the vats where Salk’s poliovirus strains grew. The Salk vaccine saved thousands of lives and spearheaded the vaccine revolution.

From Hollywood to the pharmaceutical industry to textiles to the retail industry to the military to homeowners, there isn’t a sector of the American economy that Carrier and Lyle didn’t help transform. Their zealous focus on helping businesses provide better products at cheaper costs resulted in the invaluable byproducts of increased health, comfort and happiness.

Man Who’s Never Had a Real Job Makes Rules for Businesses
With a wave of his magic wand, Barack Obama just gave five million workers a raise — or so he’d like you to believe. In an op-ed explaining his new regulations on overtime pay for salaried workers, Obama wrote, “We’ve got to keep making sure hard work is rewarded. Right now, too many Americans are working long days for less pay than they deserve. That’s partly because we’ve failed to update overtime regulations for years — and an exemption meant for highly paid, white collar employees now leaves out workers making as little as $23,660 a year — no matter how many hours they work. … [M]y plan [is] to extend overtime protections to nearly 5 million workers in 2016, covering all salaried workers making up to about $50,400 next year.” And who doesn’t want a raise? Naturally, his proposal will be popular with those who think they stand to benefit, as well as those in need of an Economics 101 refresher. The real-world results will be that employers hire fewer workers, pay lower base wages, cut hours and nix benefits like work-from-home scenarios for employees who now have to scrupulously track their hours. Just mandating higher wages doesn’t mean businesses can afford to pay them. The conservative approach is to actually grow the economy — which, notably, Obama has not done. As John F. Kennedy once said, “A rising tide lifts all boats.” Not just the ones Obama points to with his wand.
State Dragging Its Feet During Clinton Email Release
Last night, the State Department released 3,000 pages of Hillary Clinton’s email from when she served as secretary of state. This is the first batch of emails it released in response to a judge ordering the department to place Clinton’s emails in the public record on a rolling basis. Americans will get an email dump every month until the Democrat primary in January. Cue a Hillary headache. Nate Jones, expert in the Freedom of Information Act at the National Security Archive housed at George Washington University, said he would be watching how much information the State Department redacts. “The emails were unclassified, so it will be eyebrow-raising if any more content is retroactively classified by State,” Jones said. “It will be extremely troubling if State wastes its resources to unnecessarily censor ‘deliberative process’ emails which Clinton herself stated she wants released.” Sure enough, the State Department redacted 25 emails because it deemed them classified. It also went ahead and struck the name of a manwhose birthday Clinton’s office was celebrating. Last week, the House Select Committee on Benghazi discovered through interviewing Clinton lackey Sidney Blumenthal that Clinton’s staffsanitized the emails before dumping them on State. For all the platitudes, the effort to get the Clinton docs in the public record is all but sincere.
Justices to Rule on Forced Union Dues
The Supreme Court agreed Tuesday to add to next term’s docket Friderichs v. California Teachers Association, a lawsuit that could significantly loosen teachers unions grip over California and 19 other states. Because those states abide by the “closed shop” rule, collective bargaining requires that public teachers, even non-unionized ones, turn over portions of their paychecks to Democrat activists masquerading as unions. That’s not a bargain at all, which is why lead plaintiff Rebecca Friedrichs, a frustrated teacher veteran, filed a lawsuit two years ago to abolish the arbitrary system. Terry Pell, president of the Center for Individual Rights, the firm representing the plaintiffs, said in 2013, “We are going to get this case to the Supreme Court and win, and if we do, we will eliminate the close shop rules.” He was right about the first part, but we won’t know about the second for another year. But Reason’s Robby Soave believes that SCOTUS will get this one right. “The conservative 5-4 majority in 2012’s Knox v. SEIU essentially invited such a challenge, and the decision today by the Court to hear the case is a very good sign,” he writes. Furthermore, “A big win for Friedrichs could have massive consequences. California is just one of 20 ‘closed-shop’ states that require non-members to pay union dues. Compulsory unionization could be ruled unconstitutional on First Amendment grounds nationwide.” Recent rulings — namely on ObamaCare — caution us against high expectations, but unions have been put on high alert either way. Even an unfavorable ruling won’t silence the growing, vocal opposition to union contortions.

Could the Obergefell Decision Mean National Concealed Carry?

The Supreme Court’s Obergefell v. Hodges decision forcing states to recognize same-sex marriage has sparked a debate about whether the decision also provides legal precedent requiring states to recognize concealed carry permits. Let’s weigh that argument.
Bob Owens at Bearing Arms fired first, explaining, “The Court used Section 1 of the Fourteenth Amendment to justify their argument. … By using the Constitution in such a manner, the Court argues that the Due Process Clause extends ‘certain personal choices central to individual dignity and autonomy’ accepted in a majority of states across the state lines of a handful of states that still banned the practice.”
Comparing Obergefell to concealed carry reciprocity, Owens points out, “The vast majority of states are ‘shall issue’ on the matter of issuing concealed carry permits, and enjoy reciprocity with a large number of other states.” And concealed carry is certainly “accepted in a majority of states across the state lines of … states that still [ban] the practice.” Before Obergefell, 14 states did not recognize his concealed carry permit. He argues the ruling means they must.
It’s certainly interesting that attorney Marc Greendorfer’s amicus brief against same-sex marriage filed for the Obergefell case invokes the Second Amendment. Greendorfer wrote, “One day, this Court will have to explain how sweeping restrictions on every aspect of firearms ownership and use can be upheld yet traditional and long-standing regulations on marriage cannot be tolerated in any form or in any jurisdiction. … [After Heller], a number of state and local governments imposed draconian restrictions on firearms, claiming that the restrictions were reasonable and common sense, and did not infringe the core right protected by the Second Amendment.”
It’s true that the Supreme Court did not limit its interpretation of Due Process to same-sex marriage. But we also don’t hold out much hope that Owens' interpretation will, er, carry the day.
Three legal experts weighed in on the subject for Independent Journal Review, and their take is more sobering.
Ilya Somin, professor of law at George Mason University, offered some optimism. “I think this argument may be plausible, but it is far from an open and shut case,” he said. “[T]he Supreme Court has not ruled that having a concealed carry permit is a ‘personal choice central to individual dignity and autonomy.’ It hasn’t even (so far) ruled that the right to conceal-carry … is protected by the Second Amendment. … [I]n the case of concealed carry permits, the Court has never ruled that states are required to issue them to their own citizens. I think such a ruling might well be required by the Second Amendment. But it hasn’t happened yet.”
But Robert A. Levy, Senior Fellow in Constitutional Studies at Cato Institute, put a damper on even such guarded optimism: “No. The Obergefell Court applied the Due Process Clause to ‘certain personal choices central to personal dignity and autonomy.’ I doubt that the Court would interpret that phrase to encompass a federal constitutional right to concealed carry. Nor would the Court rule that any right enforceable under the laws of, say, 36 states must therefore be extended to the remaining states.”
And Trevor Burrus, Research Fellow at Cato, warned, “If proponents want to bring a case on concealed carry and cite the Obergefell opinion, they are free to… [But] gay marriage [doesn’t] automatically convey a right to concealed carry in 50 states. Moreover, by using these spurious arguments, advocates … harm the overall movement for gun rights. Bad arguments can create bad precedents that could impair the expansion of the right to self defense.”
Finally, economist John Lott, who has written extensively on guns, wrote our publisher Mark Alexander to give his opinion: “I don’t think that the decision will make any difference for gun rights, as the four liberal justices who voted for it don’t believe that there is a right to self-defense or a right to own guns, let alone a right to be able to carry a concealed handgun. You might get one vote for a pro-gun position using that argument, but it would only be Kennedy.”
In the world of SCOTUS and the Left, you must be careful what you wish for. We don’t exactly trust our “Supremes” to read the Second Amendment any better than they do the Tenth and Fourteenth. But that isn’t to say national concealed carry reciprocity isn’t worth aiming for.

The report emanates from a board of inquiry the Council created in the midst of the 2014 Gaza war. In legalese, the call to arrest Israelis either for trial before the International Criminal Court (ICC), or before any court in any country that the U.N. labels "fair," reads like this:

The board "calls upon the international community … to support actively the work of the International Criminal Court in relation to the Occupied Palestinian Territory; to exercise universal jurisdiction to try international crimes in national courts; and to comply with extradition requests pertaining to suspects of such crimes to countries where they would face a fair trial."

To be fair, the U.N. report says this could apply to both parties. In other words, the democratic state of Israel, with a moral and legal obligation to defend its citizens, and the Palestinian attackers bent on genocide are moral equals. Throughout the 183-page tome, the U.N. council "experts" play the old "cycle of violence" trick, otherwise known as "it all started when you hit me back."

An infamous photo from the Third Reich shows eminent Jewish lawyer Michael Siegel, beaten and bloodied after going to police headquarters on behalf of a Jewish client who had been sent to Dachau, forced to walk through the streets of Munich with a sign around his neck saying: "I am a Jew, but I will never again complain to the police."

The similarity with today's U.N. authorities is painfully clear. When Israel responds to Palestinian rocket fire — 750 rockets in 2014 alone prior to the war's start — or Palestinian terrorists emerging from tunnels into Israel bent on carnage, it is Israel who is accused of war crimes. The only acceptable response, apparently, is to hang their heads or make a U.N. speech.

In part, the war criminal charge is just one more U.N. slander. U.N. meetings routinely consist of wild allegations of Israel committing genocide, ethnic cleansing, apartheid and crimes against humanity, and frequently analogizing Israelis to Nazis. The anti-Semitic dimension of these attacks is palpable, with constant references to the offense of "Judaization" — the criminalization of the presence of Jews in what is supposed to be Judenrein Arab territory, or what is in practice apartheid Palestine.

While the point of all this hate speech is to demonize and delegitimize Israel, the war crimes label takes the campaign one step further. It deliberately ravages Israel's right of self-defense.

Self-defense is the essence of sovereignty. In the words of the U.N. Charter: "Nothing in the present Charter shall impair the inherent right of … self-defence if an armed attack occurs against a Member of the United Nations …" The United Nations was not intended to be a suicide pact.

But incredibly, the U.N. council report purports to address legal responsibility for casualties in Gaza without once mentioning "self-defense."
.
It was exactly the outcome that the council had planned. The Council gave the board of inquiry its marching orders on July 23, 2014, just 16 days into the war. It named June 13, 2014, as the starting line because Palestinian terrorists kidnapped three Israeli teenagers on June 12. It said the Council "condemns … the violations … arising from the Israeli military operations." Guilty before proven innocent is how it all began.

The board's first chair, William Schabas, was forced to resign after it was revealed he had been a paid legal adviser to the Palestinian Authority. On his way out the door in February, Schabas admitted the "fact-gathering" was "largely completed," and yet the U.N. denied the obvious conclusion that the result was irrevocably tainted. Consequently, a Palestinian legal adviser chaired the inquiry for more than half of its 10-month existence.

Impartiality was equally alien to American Mary McGowan Davis, who took over from Schabas. She had already chaired a Council committee about the 2008/09 Gaza war, and she declared in a March 2011 report that Israel's legal system did not meet standards of independence or impartiality, or make "accountability" possible. Those criteria are both the pre-conditions for the ICC's ability to throw Israelis in prison and the subject matter of her 2014 job.

In short, the Council gave the same person the same assignment on almost the same fact situation … and surprise! Israel is guilty as charged. .
In 2011, McGowan Davis described the misogynist, homophobic, anti-free speech, "de facto authorities in Gaza" (i.e. Hamas) — infamous for throwing political opponents off tall buildings — as "generally tolerant of local human rights organizations."

A U.N. "human rights" expert par excellence.

Little wonder that the report is riddled with lies and libels. It claims Israel was "directing attacks against civilians," and acted "in utter disregard of…the civilian population…" It omits that Hamas rejected or violated a total of 11 cease-fires that would have reduced Palestinian casualties by 90 percent. It says the intent of "Palestinian armed groups" in constructing and using tunnels cannot be "conclusively determined" — photographic evidence of weapons caches and terrorists emerging from openings terrifyingly close to Israeli villages to the contrary.

It even goes so far as to lament that Palestinian "armed groups" don't have more room for their criminal enterprise: "…the obligation to avoid locating military objectives within densely populated areas is not absolute. The small size of Gaza and its population density make it difficult for armed groups to always comply with this requirement."

The U.N. has reached a new low. The United States should start by resigning from the Human Rights Council effective immediately.

Republicans may not much agree with the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn state bans on same-sex marriage, but just like the other ruling this week sparing nObamaCare, it is a political deliverance for their party.
Had the court rejected the case and restored same-sex marriage bans struck down by lower courts, the Republican 2016 field would have been in a quandary. With a socially conservative base but a general electorate that has shifted dramatically on the subject in the past decade, GOP contenders would have been obliged to take positions on 31 state bans that were resurrected by the court.
The list would have included swing states Ohio, Virginia, North Carolina and Florida and each candidate would have had to take a position on the subject. No good answers – either flip-flop or be called an extremist.
Managing to anger social conservatives directly and libertarians by way of precedent for judicial activism, the high court has stoked a righteous anger on the right. While Republicans may be increasingly accepting of gay marriage, its imposition by court order will hardly enhance the good vibes.
But there is enormous relief among GOP strategists that this issue is mostly off the table for 2016.
As it stands, social conservatives can call for a federal amendment to reverse the decision – as Gov. Scott Walker, R-Wisc., already has – but since there is no chance of a two-thirds majority in the Senate, and not even likely to be a vote, this comes with lower risk.
Moreover, the Republican base, already inflamed over fears of lost religious liberty, will bring a new focus to the subject and new activists and donors for the cause. The target will shift from the social issue itself to the issue of government and religious overreach.
No matter who the Republicans nominate, Hilly Clinton will declare them to be extremists on the subject of gay marriage. But as of today, the Supreme Court has declared the issue moot. -Fox News

We do not have a record of other correspondence between her and Mr. Blumenthal beyond that which was turned over to the State Department. The takeaway - A crack has emerged between Hilly Clinton and her former team at the State Department. Her process for culling the emails was demonstrably flawed and now further open to charges of wrongdoing. The choice to destroy 31,000 emails looks increasingly suspect. The campaign may hang Blumenthal out to dry on this, but this becomes a stickier web all the time. Prosecutors know the way to win is to divide the suspects, and that may be what congressional investigators are doing. -Fox News

NPS Removes Battle Flag From Battlefield
The hive mind appears to be taking over. While we can at least understand the push to remove the Confederate flag from the South Carolina state capitol grounds, the rush to jerk it from all store shelves or any public view is astounding. From the "General Lee" of Dukes of Hazzard fame, to Apple pulling Civil War games from the App Store, to the National Cathedral removing stained glass over the mere presence of the Confederate flag, the reaction quickly became absurd. Now, the nation's first National Military Park, Chickamauga, a park established in 1890 for reconciliation between veterans of the Confederate and Union forces after the War Between the States, has removed Confederate battle flags from its gift shops. Gettysburg has done so as well. Undoubtedly there was a memo from the National Park Service requiring this asinine measure — in order to propagate nObama's race-bait narrative. It has been said that ignorance is bliss, but the fact is, ignorance is miserable.
Meanwhile, nObama no doubt will be promoting his race bait later today when delivering the eulogy for Rev. Clementa Pinckney, who, again, supported the flying of the Confederate flag at the SC capitol. If black lives really matter, then why does nObama not deliver eulogies for the other 20 blacks murdered every day on average, most by other blacks? Simple: It doesn't fit the race-bait narrative.
Finally, of course, the American flag flew over those 13 rebellious states before the Confederate battle flag was ever flown. Better get that American flag down next.

Clinton Strings Along Investigators With Hidden Emails We're still trying to grasp all we don't know about Hilly Clinton's cannon of destroyed documentation. On Thursday, the State Department admitted that nine full emails and six partial emails that Clinton lackey Sidney Blumenthal handed over to the Select Committee on Benghazi were not in the reams of printed emails Clinton dumped on the department. Clinton had to have known this. Earlier this year, Clinton said she handed over all the emails regarding her tenure as secretary of state, though she admitted that she destroyed half of her emails because they were "private." Clinton swears she told the truth, but it was not the whole truth and nothing but the truth about the events leading up to the day when jihadists killed four Americans in Benghazi. "This has implications far beyond Libya, Benghazi and our committee's work," Benghazi Committee Chair Trey Gowdy said. "This conclusively shows her email arrangement with herself, which was then vetted by her own lawyers, has resulted in an incomplete public record. … The revelation these messages were not originally produced to the State Department by Clinton is significant and troubling." The emails show that Clinton was encouraging Blumenthal to send her intelligence reports on Benghazi, despite Clinton's claim that the reports were unsolicited. So why is the State Department cooperating with the Benghazi investigation now? It's very possible Hilly, Blumenthal and Co. are contriving these releases as a red herring designed to tie up Republican political capital on an issue that may be a nonstarter. House Republicans Mull Impeachment of IRS Head
Last February, Barack nObama glibly claimed there was "not even a smidgen of corruption" at the IRS. A month later, at the height of the scandal over the IRS targeting conservative nonprofits, the agency destroyed 422 backup tapes that might have contained 24,000 of Lois Lerner's emails. Here's what the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee learned at their hearing yesterday: Yes, the IRS knew of significant gaps in the public record. Yes, Congress issued a preservation order and a subpoena. But still, records were destroyed. Furthermore, eight days after former chair of the House Ways and Means Committee David Camp sent a letter to the IRS in June 2011 inquiring about the targeting of Tea Party groups, Lerner's hard drive somehow crashed. Tim Camus, the deputy inspector for investigations, calls the whole email-destroying frenzy an "unbelievable set of circumstances." As for Republican lawmakers, they think the unbelievable set of circumstances is grounds for the impeachment of IRS commissioner John Koskinen. A Republican on the House Oversight committee told National Review, "We've briefed the leadership's counsel, and I think that they're open to it, but it's the type of thing where this town is like, 'oh, that's not how we do things, it's not really been used lately.' But, quite frankly, we really haven't had executive branch officials behave this way like we do now."

Republican Candidates Should Stand Together to Block Iran Deal
(Roger L. Simon) ~ All the Republican candidates, announced or unannounced, should stop what they are doing and band together over the July 4 weekend to stop the Iran Deal... In so doing, they should reach out not just to their fellow Republicans, but to all Americans, including especially their colleagues on the other side of the aisle. This is an emergency. Sometimes world events reach a level that petty politics must be put aside and true patriotism come to the fore. September 11, 2001, and Pearl Harbor were such instances. The about-to-be-signed (between June 30 and July 6) nuclear deal with Iran is another. According to the Corker-Menendez bill, Congress only has thirty days to review the deal and (unfairly) needs to muster a two-thirds majority to overthrow it. Allowing the mullahs a glide path to the bomb, this agreement shifts the international balance of power as nothing since Chamberlain’s famous appeasement of Hitler at Munich. The Iran deal is therefore tantamount to a suicide of the West. And, ironically, the only one who can block it at this point is Ayatollah Khamenei. Barack nObama seems willing to give the Iranians just about anything they want in order to get an agreement. He might as well load a couple of dozen nuclear-tipped ICBMs on the USS Harry S. Truman and sail them over to Bandar Abbas for off-loading.

Israel Turns Back 'Freedom Flotilla'- Hands Out Snarky Bibi Letter
(Jeff Dunetz) ~ The so called "freedom flotilla" has been stopped from entering Gaza and is being towed to the Israeli port of Asdod. The IDF released a terse statement... In accordance with international law, the Israeli Navy advised the vessel several times to change course. Following their refusal, forces visited and searched the vessel in international waters in order to prevent the intended breach of the maritime blockade of the Gaza Strip. The forces have reported that use of force was unnecessary, and that the process was uneventful. The vessel is currently being escorted to Ashdod Port and is expected to arrive within 12-24 hours. Truth is while ships are not allowed to head to Gaza, groups can send as much aid to the terrorist controlled area as they wish. Their cargo, however must be sent through Israel so it can be checked for arms. In the past Israel has intercepted ships filled with arms from Iran and other terrorist supporting countries. A bankruptcy of the Hellenic Republic is now imminent... If it materializes, a so-called Grexit will follow: Greece will be forced to leave the Eurozone -- the group of 19 European Union (EU) member states that use the euro as their common currency. Leaving the Eurozone automatically means that, under the EU treaties, Greece will also have to leave the EU. I don’t know which is worse but fear had become familiar. Addiction is a terrible thing, debilitating for the addict, but also for his family and for everyone else who loves him. It’s a progressive disease and a fatal result was inevitable unless he could stop, and he couldn’t. Ten years ago I joined a 12-step group for families of alcoholics and it helped me cope, helped me live with the fear and anxiety. The program reduced but didn’t eliminate those two crippling emotions. Now there are two more with which to wrestle..

We buried our son’s body last week but I know his spirit survives, and I will see him again when my own body finally gives out. That knowledge is a comfort, and will it ultimately trump both sadness and grief. He passed peacefully, even if life offered little peace during his last years. He has eternal peace now. I know that, but sometimes I forget and have to remind myself that he’s in a better place..

Some Liberties Are More Equal Than Others
One day before the Supreme Court ruled on same-sex marriage, ACLU deputy legal director Louise Melling wrote of the organization’s newly announced hostility to Christians and religious liberty, specifically regarding its withdrawal of support for the Religious Freedom Restoration Act. “The ACLU supported the RFRA’s passage at the time because it didn’t believe the Constitution, as newly interpreted by the Supreme Court, would protect people … whose religious expression does not harm anyone else. But we can no longer support the law in its current form. For more than 15 years, we have been concerned about how the RFRA could be used to discriminate against others. As the events of the past couple of years amply illustrate, our fears were well-founded. While the RFRA may serve as a shield to protect [some], it is now often used as a sword to discriminate against women, gay and transgender people and others. … Yes, religious freedom needs protection. But religious liberty doesn’t mean the right to discriminate or to impose one’s views on others.” It’s not exactly surprising that the ACLU would find a way to oppose such laws once Christians found refuge in them. But this is an organization that has gone to bat for the KKK and the American Nazi Party. And the irony is too much: Melling decries the imposition of views while having no problem with homosexuals forcing bakers, photographers and florists to provide their services against their consciences. Now that the Supreme Court has found a constitutional right to same-sex marriage, more imposition and discrimination will occur. And the ACLU will be leading the charge. Because “love wins,” right?
Puerto Rico Wants a Pass on $72 Billion Debt
“Death spiral” — that’s how Puerto Rico Governor Alejandro García Padilla describes the commonwealth’s debt. Over the last few years, the island racked up a debt of $72 billion, or 3.5 times the amount that bankrupted Detroit. Padilla, who once vowed to repay the loans accrued by his and past administrations, now says it’s impossible and creditors should “share the sacrifices.” Problem is, Puerto Rico has been a popular place for retirees to invest because the commonwealth’s bonds are tax-free. The problem becomes stickier, as Puerto Rico cannot file for Chapter 9 bankruptcy. The island used to be an economic powerhouse, filled with manufacturing and a vibrant port. But Deepak Lamba-Nieves, research director for the think tank Center for a New Economy, said in 2013, “You cannot pay daily expenses with your credit card, and that’s what Puerto Rico has been doing for years. We borrowed just to keep the lights on.” Padilla doesn’t appear ready to make the difficult cuts, firing government workers, tightening its belt and getting serious about the debt. Like Detroit, Puerto Rico was destroyed by liberal politicians and their failed economic theories. Now, some will say the only way to save the commonwealth is with a bailout. Barack Obama says he won’t do so, but don’t be surprised if he proposes to “fix” the problem by floating Puerto Rico statehood again — in order to firm up some Latino support. While the offer is hollow, a narcissist like Obama would certainly be pleased with a legacy of altering the American flag.
Brady Center’s Frivolous Suit Against Ammo Company Backfires
After the massacre at the Aurora movie theater, The Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence went after the company from which the murderer bought his ammunition. The center filed suit against Lucky Gunner because it sold its ammunition online, arguing that’s “unreasonably dangerous and create[s] a public nuisance.” But not only did the judge disagree, he reprimanded the Brady Center because he said it was filing suit simply to make a high-profile political point. Judge Richard Matsch wrote in his ruling, “It is apparent that this case was filed to pursue the political purposes of the Brady Center and, given the failure to present any cognizable legal claim, bringing these defendants into the Colorado court where the prosecution of James Holmes was proceeding appears to be more of an opportunity to propagandize the public and stigmatize the defendants than to obtain a court order.” Furthermore, Matsch said the Brady Center had to pay Lucky Gunner’s legal fees. Lucky Gunner said those funds would be donated to pro-Second Amendment groups. For groups with deep pockets and a bitterness toward Liberty, an effective strategy is to silence the lovers of Liberty through suits, frivolous or no. Judge Matsch put a damper on that strategy.

All Isn’t Lost, as SCOTUS Rebukes EPA

EPA chief Gina McCarthy isn't pleasedThe Supreme Court proved it still has a little bit of respect left for Rule of Law in its decision yesterday in Michigan v. EPA. In a 5-4 ruling that predictably followed partisan lines with Justice Anthony Kennedy swinging to the right, the High Court ruled that the Environmental Protection Agency did not properly consider the high costs of regulation of emissions from coal-fired power plants.
That this Court — the one content to rewrite ObamaCare in order to save it, twice — found the EPA went too far in rewriting the law is saying something.
The EPA, which has been pursuing the ecofascist dream of completely wiping the coal industry off the face of the earth, released a series of regulations in 2012 that would force energy producers to comply with limits on mercury and air toxins released in coal energy production. The National Federation of Independent Business said the regulations, known as Mercury and Air Toxics Standards (MATS), are among the costliest ever issued.
The EPA estimated the new rules would cost close to $10 billion annually, while bringing direct annual benefits of no more than $6 million. Bureaucrats also made the un-provable assertion that the rules would prevent up to 11,000 premature deaths and 130,000 asthma cases each year. In developing its regulations, the EPA was expected to adhere to the Clean Air Act’s “appropriate and necessary” standard. But the agency arbitrarily determined that cost had no bearing in the development of the regulations, essentially flouting the decades-old law and choosing to make up its own rules. The EPA determined that its work protecting the environment justified whatever actions it saw fit.
Justice Antonin Scalia’s majority opinion stated, “EPA strayed well beyond the bounds of reasonable interpretation in concluding that cost is not a factor relevant to the appropriateness of regulating power plants.” Scalia also noted, “The costs to power plants were … between 1,600 and 2,400 times as great as the quantifiable benefits from reduced emissions of hazardous air pollutants.” He added, “No regulation is ‘appropriate’ if it does significantly more harm than good.”
House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy of California weighed in on the decision in a statement, saying, “The Supreme Court’s decision today vindicates the House’s legislative actions to rein in bureaucratic overreach and institute some common sense in rule making.” That said, Congress has more work to do to rein in an out-of-control EPA, especially given that the Court left open a substantial loophole of sorts: Regulations are fine as long as the EPA “counts the cost.”
Indeed, the EPA seemed nonplussed by the decision, with spokeswoman Melissa Harrison saying, “EPA is disappointed … but this rule was issued more than three years ago … and most plants are already well on their way to compliance.” In other words, she gloated that the damage was already done and blew a raspberry at opponents.
The EPA and the White House will certainly try to play down this loss, but the Court’s decision lays groundwork for a number of other cases in which multiple states are seeking to challenge the imperial overreach of the EPA. As noted by National Mining Association President Hal Quinn, “The decision effectively puts EPA on notice: reckless rulemaking that ignores the cost to consumers is unreasonable and won’t be tolerated.”
But Justice Clarence Thomas warned in his concurring majority opinion, “[W]e seem to be straying further and further from the Constitution without so much as pausing to ask why. We should stop to consider that document before blithely giving the force of law to any other agency ‘interpretations’ of federal statutes.” We can think of a few other cases in which that logic applies, and we hope this victory isn’t merely symbolic.

New Yorkers Say 'No' to SAFE Act 
The New York State Police initially shot down inquiries into how many "assault weapons" have been registered with the state after its legislature enacted the SAFE Act in 2013, and we now have a pretty good idea why — because compliance is abysmal. On April 30, New York Supreme Court Judge Thomas McNamara ordered the State Police to disclose registration statistics. According to the figures, which were made public this week, just 23,847 gun owners have registered a total of 44,485 military-looking weapons. For perspective, that's less than the 50,000 firearms registered under a similar law in Connecticut. Keep in mind, Connecticut has a population of 3.6 million, according to the Census Bureau. New York's is 19.8 million. Just a small disparity. Keep in mind also that New Yorkers own somewhere around 1,000,000 of these so-called assault rifles, which would mean just 4% of eligible firearms have been registered. Leah Barrett, executive director of New Yorkers Against Gun Violence, tried to put a positive spin on the numbers, responding, "Tens of thousands of people have complied with the law. That's important. It shouldn't be overlooked." What shouldn't be overlooked either is that the overwhelming majority of New Yorkers are exercising civil disobedience by rejecting a blatantly unconstitutional law. Pope's Science Adviser's Political Agenda Exposed
An old adage from the Gospel of Matthew warns, "Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves" (7:15). Unfortunately, Pope Francis did just the opposite when writing the environmental portion of his encyclical. Microbiologist Hans Schellnhuber is a science adviser to the Vatican, and also a fraud. Schellnhuber is in fact a strong believer in the Gaia hypothesis — in a nutshell, the worship of Mother Earth. "When Francis' encyclical was leaked last week, we wondered if his position on the man-made global warming question was 'a misuse of the authority of the Roman Catholic Church and the church at large,'" writes the Investor's Business Daily editorial board. "Our conclusion has only been solidified by the revelation that the pope was in league with Schellnhuber. ... From atheists to strong-arm redistributionists, this pope is unequally yoked with those who don't share the tenets of his faith — but who are happy to use that faith to achieve their political aims. NEW POLL, NEW TROUBLE FOR HILLY IN EARLY STATES
How far left will Hilly Clinton have to go to placate her party’s base? While Republican frontrunner Jeb Bush has the advantage of his party’s conservative wing fragmenting rather than consolidating, Hilly Clinton is watching the left side of her party coalesce around Sen. Bernie Sanders. The latest Fox News poll shows Sanders still trailing Clinton nationally, with 15 percent to her 61 percent, but in the crucial early primary states of Iowa and New Hampshire we see the big gains for the Vermont socialist.
A pair of new polls from Bloomberg and local media partners in the states with the first two nominating contests shows Sanders slicing Clinton’s lead. He now boasts a quarter of the vote in New Hampshire and in Iowa. Sanders is perhaps even less likely than newly minted GOP candidate Donald Trump to be his party’s nominee, but Sanders may have a greater effect on the outcome. So far, Democrats are still spurning the entreaties of former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley. But Sanders’ strength combined with Clinton’s endless ethical problems continues to show that there is room in the party for a real challenge. While time is running out, there are still probably a couple of months for a person with high name identification to jump into the race – we’re looking at you loose lips Joe Biden and Indian Elizabeth Warren.
So how many flops must Clinton flip before her party is satisfied that she will not sprint to the middle in the general election? And on what topics? While Clinton has been a perfect pander bear on social issues, touting her hatred for the Confederate Battle Flag and deep, if newly acquired, support for same-sex marriage, will she be forced to take damaging stances on tax rates, government-run insurance and other items that could do her damage against the eventual GOP nomination?
There’s still almost no scenario in which Clinton doesn’t end up as the nominee, but the condition in which she arrives and what new liberal positions she is obliged to pack in her baggage when she gets there are now very much up in the air. -Fox News

That was the trial in which the Silk Road drugs impresario, Ross Ulbricht, wound up being sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. This would not happen, obviously, in Sweden or New Zealand or anywhere else, but even by the standards of American courtrooms it was unusual: Judge Katherine Forrest gave Ulbricht a tougher sentence than the prosecution had asked for. ISIS in Jerusalem
(israeltoday.co.il) ~ Flyers made their appearance in the North Jerusalem neighborhood of Beit Hanina on Thursday last week, signed by the "ISIS in Palestine" organization, with threats against Arab Christians of the area... Christians are threatened with slaughter if they do not evacuate the area by Eid al-Fitr, marking the end of Ramadan. The flyer went on to say that one month is enough time and warning for Christians to flee the area to avoid a massacre. The news of the flyers spread quickly amongst the Arabs in Israel on social networks. Some expressing doubts at the authenticity of the flyers while others took the warning seriously. There are groups of Arabs, both christian and Muslim, that either do or don't believe that there is an active branch of ISIS in Jerusalem. One local Arab, on condition of anonymity, said to Israel Today that, "it may simply be an attempt to intimidate local Christians. I do not fear. Marshall contends Congress “can immediately take action on a strategy to block the nObama administration’s implementation of the court’s decision through the use of riders to appropriations bills which will come before Congress this summer and fall.” “Suggested by James Madison, both liberals and conservatives have successfully used this strategy to change public policy over the past 50 years,” he wrote. “This approach is constitutional. Former NAACP President defends Confederate flag

H.K. Edgerton stood waving the flag, telling anyone who would listen why he thought the Stars and Bars stood for something other than hate and racism. As was feared by the dissenting judges (and a whole host of critics), they also changed the way you can think, feel, and talk about the subject... The change won’t come all at once, but it’s not going to be subtle, either. The president’s speech was not the only indication that things are getting ready to change. Harrisburg, Pennsylvania’s The Patriot-News decided Friday that they would no longer print letters to the editor that expressed opposition to gay marriage. The backlash was swift, leading the editorial board to make a quick but rather insignificant amendment to the policy. “Clarification,” wrote Editor John Micek, “We will not foreclose discussion of the high court’s decision, but arguments that gay marriage is wrong/unnatural are out.” So in other words, you can disagree with the ruling on legal grounds, but there is no more room for debate when it comes to the morality of the decision. Just like that, it’s no longer okay to be against gay marriage in America. And while you can argue that this is just one small newspaper, it’s an argument that ignores history. This is always the way it starts. In another five years – and that’s a very conservative estimate – opposing gay marriage will be akin to opposing racial integration. This is exactly what Christian leaders warned us about. It’s the exact slippery slope that every liberal promised was not going to happen. Overthrow the Judicial Dictatorship
(Cliff Kinaid) ~ Commentators have missed the real significance of Justice Antonin Scalia’s dissent in the gay marriage case. He calls the decision a judicial “Putsch,” an attempt to overthrow a form of government—ours... His dissent, joined by Justice Clarence Thomas, was written “to call attention to this Court’s threat to American democracy.” His comment about the Court using the kind of reasoning we find in a fortune cookie is a funny line. But there is much of the Scalia dissent that is not funny and which serves as a warning to the American people about what the Court has done to us. Scalia understands the power and meaning of words and he chose the word “putsch” for a specific purpose. One definition of the term means “a secretly plotted and suddenly executed attempt to overthrow a government…” Another definition is “a plotted revolt or attempt to overthrow a government, especially one that depends upon suddenness and speed.”
