Obama and Netanyahu 2

by, DEBKA File

President Barack Obama and his White House National Security team headed by Susan Rice have decided to seize on the political crisis besetting the Israeli government and the upcoming general election on March 17 for action to bar Binyamin Netanyahu’s reelection to a fourth term as prime minister.

This decision reverberated through Future party leader Yair Lapid’s assertion Wednesday night, Dec. 3, after he was sacked as finance minister, that Binyamin Netanyahu would not be next prime minister. He laid claim to the premiership himself.

The Obama administration has maintained close ties with Lapid during the foreshortened 22 month-life of the departing Israeli government.

The White House is still working on a detailed plan of action, but has lost no time in setting up appointments for the president to receive heads of the parties sworn to overthrow Netanyahu – among others, ex-minister Lapid, opposition leader Yitzhak Herzog of Labor and Tzipi Livni (The Movement), who was fired this week as Justice Minister along with Lapid.

They will be accorded attractive photo-ops with Obama and joint communiqués designed to signify to the Israeli voter that the US president would favor their election to the future government and the country as a whole would gain tangibly from a different government to the incumbent one.

This White House campaign would be accompanied by leaks from Washington for putting Netanyahu and his policies in a derogatory light. Messages to this effect were transmitted to a number of serving political figures as an incentive to jump the Likud-led ship to opposition ranks. The US administration has begun hinting that it may emulate the Europeans by turning the screws on Israel as punishment for the prime minister’s signature policy of developing West Bank and Jerusalem development construction.
Accounts reaching DEBKAfile speak of an outburst of joy in the White House over news of the Netanyahu government’s breakup. It was seen as an opportunity to finally get rid of Binyamin Netanyahu and a golden opportunity to bring Israel back to negotiations with the Palestinians with the Obama administration finally chalking up a success.

At the same time, some senior sources in the US capital confided to DEBKAfilethat administration joy over political developments in Israel could quickly prove premature – either in view of another round of violence overtaking the Middle East, or by once again misreading Israel’s political map before stepping in and so failing in its object. But for now the circles around the US president are “highly optimistic” about their chances of forcing Netanyahu’s exit, comparing them to the former success of the first President George Bush in forcing the ouster of the late Yitzhak Shamir as Israeli prime minister in the 90s.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday night, Dec. 3, US Congress passed the US.-Israel Strategic Partnership Act that raises by $200 million the value of emergency US weapons stocked in Israel to a total of $1.8 billion, and guarantees Israel’s qualitative military edge over its neighbors and foes. The motion, passed by a voice vote in the House after clearing the Senate unanimously last September, also promotes closer links in energy, water, homeland security, alternative fuel technology and cyber-security. The bill now goes to President Obama for his signature.

Racism!

Racism!

A word used so much and so often I'm wondering if anyone even listens to it anymore, much-less cares.  The word racist has been attached to so many of the wrong people even entire groups of people where efforts to disparage them by making the word racism synonymous with that groups label, have only helped in diminishing the words meaning as nothing more than a tactic for use as an ad-hominem or personal insult to anyone belonging to or suspected of being a member of that group.

It is used to disparage the GOP all the time and by arguably the most guilty of the same accusation, the democrats themselves have proven over and over to be some of the most bigoted and racist individuals and groups to toss the word around.   I would also suggest they are the sole reason the word no longer is taken seriously.

If you want to be seen as not racist, I suggest you quit using the word or projecting your own racism onto everyone else
Take the Michael Brown case and ask yourself, in light of the evidence and ONLY in the true light of the evidence presented in that case,, would a black cop, acted any differently?

If you're like most of us and you are honest with yourself, you can't say a black cop wouldn't have shot Michael Brown dead merely because he was black.   To another black man, his suspect being black really is irrelevant.  What matters is your own life and whose race is whose has no importance whatsoever.

So when black activists say Black lives matter,, I have to say,, NO, they don't.  They don't matter in that situation and all that does matter is that you stay alive.    You don't stop to think about what someone like Al Sharpton would say or Jessie Jackson or even the whole population of Ferguson Missouri, would say about someone who has just demonstrated he is not afraid of you and is intent on attacking you, is twice your size and is charging fast.  You don't stop to think about offering the assailant a gun to make it fair for the sake of all the equality guru's and their Berkeley inspired stupidity.

No, you think about yourself, your wife and kids and how much distance you are giving up between the time he has to clobber you and the bullets it's going to take to stop him dead in his tracks.

That's really all anyone can conclude in any honest assessment of the Michael Brown case

and the last thing you or anyone else would be thinking about

is what color skin he has because THAT

really doesn't matter.

It doesn't matter

at all.

0 (8)Jordan’s King Abdullah believes battling the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria and other terrorist groups is “our third world war.”

Speaking to “CBS This Morning,” Abdullah stated that ISIS is a Muslim problem that they need to take ownership of.

“We need to stand up and say what is right and what is wrong. This is no reflection of our religion. This is evil and all of us have got to make that decision,” Abdullah, who is in Washington to meet with President Barack Obama, said. “We have to stand up and say this is the line that is drawn in the sand and those that believe in right should stand on this side and those that don’t have to make a decision should stand on the other. It’s clearly a fight between good and evil. I think it’s a generational fight. As I said to President Putin, I think this is our third world war by other means.”

The United States, along with allies, have been bombing ISIS targets in both Syria and Iraq. The terror group has released several videos showing the beheadings of Americans and British journalists and aid workers.

Abdullah is calling for a “strategic holistic approach” to deal with ISIS.

Mark LEVIN WOWS STATE LEGISLATORS:

Share

Conservative talkradio host Mark Levin made news Thursday when he addressed the annual conference of the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), a “non-partisan membership association of state lawmakers,” and it wasn’t just because he reiterated his call for an Article V “Convention of the States” to propose new amendments to the Constitution.

Levin’s call for an Article V Convention of the States has been well known since the publication of his best-selling book, The Liberty Amendments, more than a year ago.

On Thursday, Levin framed the Article V Convention of the States as the beginning of the process in which state legislators can reassert their constitutional power and become, in effect, the kind of check on the out-of-control federal government the framers expected the three branches of federal government they created in the Constitution would be on each other.

“Take your power back,” Levin told the enthusiastic crowd of state legislators from around the country.

Critics who claim an Article V Convention could become a “Runaway Constitutional Convention” miss the point entirely, Levin said. Critics think such a convention would have no impact, as the federal government is ignoring the Constitution already and would have little reason to observe any amendments, subsequently ratified by the states, that emerged from the Convention of the States.

Wells Fargo Pushed Risky Loans on Hispanics and Other Minority Borrowers

The Chicago area’s Cook County has filed a lawsuit against Wells Fargo & Co., accusing the nation’s biggest mortgage lender of subjecting Hispanic and African American borrowers to discriminatory and predatory lending practices.

Hundreds of millions of dollars in damages are allegedly involved.

According to the suit, Wells Fargo purposely issued out these high-risk loans to minority borrowers because most of them did not qualify for traditional loans.

The lawsuit, which was filed Thursday in Chicago, contends that Wells Fargo engaged in the practice known as “equity stripping,” which involves imposing inflated or unneeded rates and fees, plus penalties to refinance. That practice, alleged to have taken place for much of the past decade, may involve up to 26,000 loans and compensatory damages that could top $300 million, according to the lawsuit.

“Equity stripping is an abusive form of ‘asset-based lending’ that maximizes lender profits based on the value of the underlying asset and onerous loan terms, while in disregard for a borrower’s ability to repay,” the lawsuit alleges.

The Environmental Protection Agency’s proposed rule to cut carbon dioxide emissions from power plants is unconstitutional because it violates the Tenth Amendment and the Fifth Amendment, according to a noted liberal Harvard law professor.

“In short, coal has been a bedrock component of our economy and energy policy for decades,” writes constitutional law professor Laurence Tribe. “The [EPA’s rule] demonstrates the risk of allowing an unaccountable administrative agency to ‘make’ law and attempt to impose the burden of global climate change on an unlucky and unfortunate few.”

“EPA’s singling out of a mere handful of emitters and limiting (or curtailing) their property is exactly the type of overreaching the Fifth Amendment seeks to prevent,” Tribe, who is on retainer for the coal company Peabody Energy, wrote in his comments to the EPA.

Tribe’s argument that the EPA rule is unconstitutional is one of the strongest charges made against the agency’s Clean Power Plan to date.

The Clean Power Plan “violates principles of federalism and seeks to commandeer state governments in violation of the Tenth Amendment,” Tribe argues. “It raises serious questions under the Fifth Amendment as well, because it retroactively abrogates the federal government’s policy of promoting coal as an energy source. Private companies — and whole communities — reasonably relied on the federal government’s commitment to the support of coal.”

193583_5_When I was in college, I was treated to a fascinating display of hypnosis. At a large university, in an enormous theater, a hypnotist first determined those attendees who were susceptible to hypnosis. Those of us who were not then watched as the hypnotist introduced a trigger word into the subconscious of those under his influence, at the mention of which they would engage in whatever activity he directed. He woke them up, and each time he used the word, they went under the spell, he told them what they would do when they woke up, and we watched as they did it. I have no doubt that had the hypnotist told his subjects to punch the person next to them because that person had just offended them, the hypnotized would have done it just as surely as they danced like ballerinas on a stage in front of hundreds of strangers.

Humans are emotionally and mentally pliable. That they can be so easily programmed to react to a cue is alarming, but that there are people among us who recognize this and exploit it toward malicious ends is disturbing. The species homo sapiens can behave like herd beasts under the influence of conditioning and suggestion.

Most people have not even begun to understand the coldness and depravity of those who are dismantling our society and the legal and cultural foundations that have sustained it until now. Justice has nothing whatsoever to do with their actions, since none of those actions are calculated to achieve true justice. They are calculated to inflict chaos, uncertainty, fear and danger for the gain of some at the expense of others, all of which is antithetical to justice. Justice actually occurred in Ferguson, and the programmers and their trained surrogates reacted as if they had been branded like cattle.

With events such as Ferguson and before that Trayvon Martin and the Occupy hysteria, and now with the reaction to the grand jury convened to consider Eric Garner’s death, we are occasionally treated to a brief glimpse of the left’s Orc army, standing by for its cues, ready to march at a moment’s notice to destroy all in its path, especially truth. When they do arise from the muck, it also becomes clear that they have been so conditioned to pre-programmed cues that it is impossible to penetrate their psyches and engage them on facts. Their conditioning does not allow them to think independently of their indoctrination and training. They do not want to know the truth, having been similarly conditioned to find it grossly offensive. Still, they will tell you that they are not mindless drones serving a master or self-appointed master class, and that they have chosen for themselves to behave as would a herd of conscienceless animals.

Won’t someone please think of the murderous terrorists?

A November 12 panel discussion on the University of California’s flagship Berkeley campus was billed as an opportunity to learn about events 7,000 miles away in Israel – and about a Dec. 4 graduate student vote to join the anti-Israel Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement.

Instead, attendees were exhorted to bring down the Jewish State.

Hosted by UAW 2865, a union of over 13,000 student-workers across the University of California system, the union’s BDS Caucus brought in guest speakers to “discuss the role of organized labor in the Palestine solidarity movement.”

Panelist Lara Kiswani, executive director of the Arab Resource and Organizing Center (AROC), dominated the conversation.

“Bringing down Israel will really benefit everyone in the world and everyone in society, particularly workers,” she said later.

Real Shocker: Obama Deputies Free 30,862 Foreign Criminals

By Neil Munro.

President Barack Obama’s immigration deputies released 30,862 foreign criminals into the United States cities and neighborhoods, according to a federal document.

Officials also repatriated only 8,805 of the roughly 180,000 unskilled Central American migrants who flooded across the border since 2011, according to the “Fiscal Year 2014 ICE Enforcement and Removal Operation Report.”

The document also showed that Obama repatriated less than 1 percent of the 12 million illegals living in the United States during the 12 months up to October 2014.

“Immigration enforcement has been destroyed by this President,” Sen. Jeff Sessions said in a Dec. 5 statement.

Americans “must understand the situation can be remedied: if the public elects officeholders who will demand enforcement—at the worksite, the welfare office, and all ports of entry—the lawlessness can swiftly be ended,” he said.

‘Unauthorized’ Aliens With Jobs Outnumber Non-College-Grad Adults Seeking One

By Terence P. Jeffrey.

Aliens illegally holding jobs in the United States outnumber all unemployed people who are not in management, professional or related occupations as well as all unemployed who are 25 and older and who do not have a college degree, according to an estimate of “unauthorized workers” published by the Chief Actuary of the Social Security Administration and employment data published by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The BLS only counts as “unemployed” people who have actively looked for a job in the past four weeks.

“We estimate that the number of unauthorized workers grew from 4.8 million in 2000 to 8.0 million in 2007, the peak of the last business cycle,” the Office of the Chief Actuary of Social Security said in an analysis published in April 2013.

“The economy then fell into a recession and the estimated number of unauthorized workers declined to 7.0 million in 2010,” said the Chief Actuary. “We project that the economy will recover and that the number of unauthorized workers will rise to 9.6 million in 2020.”

ICE77 (1)Deportations drop to their lowest level in Obama administration’s six years, report says

By Fox News.

President Barack Obama’s deportation rate has reached a record once again, but in the other direction.

Fewer immigrants were deported in the last year than ever during the Obama administration, according to the Los Angeles Times, which obtained a draft report by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

The newspaper noted that the drop – deportations were down by 14 percent – occurred despite a rise in the number of people who illegally crossed the U.S.-Mexico border.

In raw numbers, that means ICE removed 315,943 people in the last fiscal year, which runs Oct. 1, 2013 through Sept. 30, 2014.

The rise in border crossings was very likely caused by a surge of unaccompanied minors arriving illegally from Central America in that period, the newspaper said.

Major American Institution Takes Millions from Islamic Terrorists to Tell People Islam is a Religion of Peace

Last week it was Stratfor, now this via Walid Shoebat.

Americans do not realize that Muslims will use every means possible – including the womb – to infiltrate any Christian society in order to destroy it from within. Jihad comes in many forms, including bribery. Millions of dollars are coming from the nation of Qatar to America to publish propaganda.

Two ‘experts’ with the prominent left-wing think tank Brookings Institute – Dr. Daniel Byman and Tamara Cofman Wittes – published a memorandum to Barack Obama entitled, Muslim Brotherhood Radicalizes. In it, they argue that the Brotherhood should be appeased, not exposed. The piece was published in response to Egypt declaring the Brotherhood a terrorist organization and comes across as a defense of Egypt’s Brotherhood.

The introduction says it all:

By declaring the Muslim Brotherhood a terrorist organization, Egypt risks radicalizing the group’s members and destabilizing the region further. Daniel Byman and Tamara Wittes argue that the Obama administration should engage with peaceful Islamists, push Egypt to allow Brotherhood supporters to participate in legitimate political and social activity, cooperate with Egypt on legitimate terrorism threats and expand counter-radicalization efforts there.

One can find a bit more specificity a few paragraphs in:

To sustain a peaceful alternative for Brotherhood supporters, you should press the Egyptian government to release from prison Islamist politicians who commit to non-violence, and to allow a range of Islamist parties to organize, compete in elections, and participate in governance. Former President Morsi is now on trial for a host of charges, some questionable, in a highly politicized environment. The United States should not make his release the measure of success for its diplomacy. But it should continue to press the Egyptian government to engage with Brotherhood figures seeking reconciliation, and should insist that Morsi receive fair treatment. U.S. officials should engage with all Egyptian politicians, including Islamists committed to non-violent political participation—even if this displeases the Egyptian government.

It should be noted that Byman and Cofman Wittes work for the same Brookings Institute which the New York Times revealed in September had agreed to accept $14 million from the extremely Muslim Brotherhood-friendly nation of Qatar over four years. AsShoebat.com reported, Qatar is buying influence; it is not simply being generous.

Wittes was a prominent voice within the Obama State Department from 2009-2012 as deputy assistant to secretary of state for Near Eastern affairs, smack dab in the middle of the Arab Spring that has proven disastrous for the world and served to aid in the rise of ISIS. The memorandum she co-wrote with Byman indicates she’s learned nothing about the intentions of the Brotherhood, assuming she’s ignorant of those intentions and not in league with them.

Appeasing Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood serves the interests of the same Muslim Brotherhood in Qatar, which is home to the group’s spiritual leader Yusuf al-Qaradawi. Americans need to stop seeing nation states and start seeing the ideology behind a Caliphate mentality.

Speaking of Qatar, Byman and Wittes were both present at the 2013 installment of the U.S.-Islamic World Forum (US-IWF) held in Doha, that nation’s capital each year (save for 2011 when it was held in Washington, DC). Shoebat.com has written extensively on the relationship between Brookings and Qatar through the US-IWF.

Wittes was also present at the 2012 US-IWF, held in late May of that year, a few months after leaving her position at State. In a speech given by then Deputy National Security Advisor under Barack Obama, Denis McDonough, who has since become Obama’s Chief of Staff, McDonough singled out Wittes at the beginning of his speech, saying that he missed her presence in the Situation Room:

Typically, the US-IWF is rife with Muslim Brotherhood members and sympathizers. The aforementioned video of McDonough is cued up to start with a shot of the audience. In full view is Farah Pandith, a Muslim woman working at the State Department who was sworn in using a Qur’an; Abdullah bin Bayyah, deputy to al-Qaradawi; Obama’s Muslim Brotherhood connected envoy to the OIC Rashad Hussain; then ISNA President Mohammed Magid; and CAIR Executive Director Nihad Awad among others.

Shoebat.com is also familiar with Dr. Byman. Last year, one month after the US-IWF which he attended, at a Foreign Affairs Subcommittee hearing, Byman displayed an astonishing level of ignorance considering he is supposed to be an ‘expert’ on the Middle East.

Houston: Lying Black Panter & CAIR Thugs Force Teacher to Resign

via Teacher accused of anti-Muslim remarks to resign, get 3 months’ pay – Houston Chronicle. h/t Islamist Watch

A third-grade HISD teacher accused of making profane and anti-Muslim remarks on a public access television show will resign immediately and receive three months’ pay under a deal approved by the school board Thursday.

Angela Box, a teacher at Daily Elementary in west Houston, had remained in the classroom since controversy over her comments surfaced in mid-November. Her annual salary is $50,100.

Box has taught in HISD since July 2013 and previously taught in Spring Branch ISD.  She was a regular guest on the conservative political show “Tommy’s Garage.”

Trustees of the Houston Independent School District did not discuss the settlement publicly before their 6-0 vote to approve the deal.

In a statement Thursday, Box said she would miss her students and treasure the time she spent with them. She said “character assassination” by community activist Quanell X, who had accused Box of using a racial slur, made it impossible for her to remain in her job.

“As I have said before, opposing President Obama and sounding the alarm about radical Islam does not make me a racist,” the statement said, adding that she did not utter the racial epithets Quanell X had attributed to her.

“I am considering all my legal options regarding the conduct from Mr. X and others. I expect to have an announcement as early as next Monday regarding my future steps.”

After Box’s comments surfaced, HISD officials initially said they respected the First Amendment free-speech rights of employees and that they were handling concerns from parents individually.

In online clips, Box could be heard referring to “bacon-haters,” using profanity in connection with Muslims and asking, “Can’t Ebola just take one for the team and take out Obama?”

“District administrators recommended accepting Box’s offer of resignation after determining it was in the best interest of the school and its students,” HISD said in a statement Thursday.

A Twitter account that appears to belong to Box posted the following Thursday morning: “Having The New Black Panthers, The New Black Muslims, and C.A.I.R. attack me might be the greatest compliment I’ve ever received. #vigilance”.

CAIR, the Council on American-Islamic Relations, previously wrote a letter to HISD Superintendent Terry Grier saying it was “appalled” by Box’s statements.

CAIR stopped short of calling for Box to be fired, citing respect for free-speech rights, but its spokeswoman said Thursday the organization was pleased with the outcome.

“Our concern has always been the children — the students in the classroom and whether or not they’re impacted by the things Ms. Box said,” said the spokeswoman, Ruth Nasrullah. “So we’re happy, we’re satisfied, with the fact she’s no longer going to be working in the school.”

Concerned they might learn the truth? The truth that the Houston Chronicle refuses to share with its readers. Truths including that CAIR is named by the U.S. government as an unindicted co-conspirator to the largest terror funding conviction in U.S. history and has been named a terrorist organization in the Muslim UAE. Or that many CAIR leaders have been jailed or deported for terrorism-related crimes.

Box calls Quanell’s accusations completely false, saying, “This is a lie.” Box also had a few demands for Quanell saying, “…I demand that he apologize to my students and their parents for these lies. THE FOUNDATION

“The only foundation of a free Constitution, is pure virtue, and if this cannot be inspired into our people, in a great measure, than they have it now, they may change their rulers, and the forms of government, but they will not obtain a lasting Liberty.” –John Adams, letter to Zabdiel Adams, 1776

TOP 5 RIGHT HOOKS

Why Cops Focused on Garner

Another twist in the Eric Garner saga. According to New York Congressman Peter King, “The district attorney of Staten Island is a man of unimpeachable integrity. … The highest ranking officer at the scene was an African-American female sergeant [Kizzy Adoni]. She was there the whole time. The reason that the cops were there that day is the local merchants – this is a minority neighborhood, these are minority business people – went to police headquarters and the chief of the department, who is an African-American. They complained that Eric Garner was disrupting the area and preventing people from coming into their stores. [Police] were there at the request of minority shop owners, under the direction of an African-American police chief, and under the supervision of an African-American sergeant.” King added, “I’ve seen a number of people taken down – this was a takedown. If someone is resisting arrest it often takes four or five cops to get them down. You have to subdue the person on the ground. The officers said, ‘Put your hands behind your back,’ and he wouldn’t. … I’ve seen guys held down. … If they had let up on the tension and he got up it would’ve started all over again.” If those facts don’t undermine the Left’s race-bait narrative, we don’t know what does.

‘Centuries of Racism’ to Blame for Garner’s Death

New York Mayor Bill de Blasio says that Eric Garner’s death was tragic because it’s part of a large and long-term pattern of racism in our nation. “It’s a conversation that’s really much less about any one case,” de Blasio said. “It’s something much bigger. … It’s kind of tragic that we are not surprised when one of these tragedies occurs, you know. And by the way, even beyond the question of racism in America – and I’ve said very very clearly in these last days, let’s be clear about, this is not based on decades of racism, this is based on centuries of racism – we’ve become somehow used to the notion that these tragedies will occur.” Garner’s death had nothing to do with race, but leftists really want this round peg to fit into their square hole. As National Review’s Kevin Williamson writes, “For the Left, this is all tribal, white hats vs. black hats.” If you’re on the “wrong side,” you’re racist – end of debate. And, for leftists, police happen to be on the wrong side. We refer the mayor to Peter King’s comments about the black police sergeant overseeing the takedown.

Blacks Protesting Racism Won’t Let Whites Join Them

If you think Michael Brown’s death was justified, the Left says you’re racist. And if you’re a white person who doesn’t think that and wants to show solidarity with black protesters, well, get to the back of the bus. The College Fix reports, “Organizers of a recent Ferguson protest at the University of Missouri requested ‘only people of color’ take part in the event’s ‘die-in,’ one element of a larger demonstration that prompted at least two classes to be shelved so students could participate. ‘During the demonstration we will hold a "die-in” in the student center. We are asking that only people of color be the ones to do so,’ event organizers stated in an email obtained by The College Fix. ‘We are asking non-people of color to stand holding hands in solidarity.’“ Do they also have to drink from separate water fountains? More…

November Jobs Report Short of a Christmas Miracle

The November jobs report released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics gave some cause for hope: Hiring jumped during November (which makes 2014 the best year for hires since 1999), even while the unemployment rate froze and wages barely rose to float above inflation. Here’s whatBLS disclosed: "Total nonfarm payroll employment increased by 321,000 in November, and the unemployment rate was unchanged at 5.8 percent. … Job gains were widespread, led by growth in professional and business services, retail trade, health care, and manufacturing.” The U-6 measure of unemployment ticked down one-tenth of a percent to 11.4%. In the hiring statistic, 50,000 jobs were added to the retail industry, but how many happened because of seasonal hiring? Some stores start hiring early for the holiday boom – which didn’t really happen this year – in October. More…

China Overtakes U.S. as Number One Economy

New data reveal that China, a close Russian ally that has done its own fair share of saber rattling, finally overtook the United States as the world’s top economic powerhouse. This marks the first time America has relinquished this ranking since Ulysses S. Grant occupied the Oval Office. According to MarketWatch, “The International Monetary Fund recently released the latest numbers for the world economy. And when you measure national economic output in ‘real’ terms of goods and services, China will this year produce $17.6 trillion – compared with $17.4 trillion for the U.S.A. As recently as 2000, we produced nearly three times as much as the Chinese. To put the numbers slightly differently, China now accounts for 16.5% of the global economy when measured in real purchasing-power terms, compared with 16.3% for the U.S.” Obama’s all-out attack on American exceptionalism has us increasingly looking up at our adversaries. Most sobering of all, the U.S. could easily recapture this title – if only Obama would loosen the regulatory shackles. More…

RIGHT ANALYSIS

Is Republican Amnesty Opposition a Fig Leaf?

2014-07-31-cb36b346.jpg

The battle over illegal immigration has been raging for years, so it’s no surprise that the issue is at the forefront in Washington. The main driver now, of course, is Barack Obama’s unconstitutional amnesty order and the Republican plan to stop it.

In the spring and summer of 2013, Congress seemed on its way to passing amnesty with the “Gang of Eight” bill. But while the Senate sold out, the House stood strong. Since then, the lower chamber has been the backstop against Democrats' desire to add a huge new class of government-dependent voters to its ranks, as well as an influx of low-wage workers to satisfy big business interests such as those represented by the national Chamber of Commerce.

The House’s unwillingness to bend to Barack Obama’s demands led the president to break his constitutionally sworn oath to faithfully execute the laws by unilaterally giving “*permisos*” to nearly five million illegal immigrants, for whom existing immigration law would not be enforced.

That planned back-door amnesty, when coupled with the ongoing budgeting by continuing resolution (CR) that expires next week, gave Republicans an opportunity to flex their muscles going into a term in which they will regain the majority in the Senate to match the one they currently enjoy in the House. While conservatives lament the need to address the budget during a lame-duck session of Congress, the one slight advantage it might have became apparent when Obama took immigration into his own hands last month.

A weak-kneed Republican plan for resisting Obama’s immigration overreach has now emerged. Step one was passing a meaningless fig leaf of a bill sponsored by Rep. Ted Yoho (R-FL), which would make it illegal for Obama to change immigration law via executive authority. That bill passed the House on Thursday by a 219-197 vote, which included three Democrat votes.

According to The Hill, “The seven Republican no votes were Reps. Mike Coffman (Colo.), Mario Diaz-Balart (Fla.), Jeff Denham (Calif.), Louie Gohmert (Texas), Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (Fla.) Marlin Stutzman (Ind.) and David Valadao (Calif.). With the exceptions of Gohmert and Stutzman, who thought the bill did not go far enough, these Republicans are supportive of immigration reform.” Several of them have large Hispanic constituencies.

Regardless, the Senate won’t take up the bill. Even if it did, Obama would surely veto it. The Yoho bill simply provides cover for Republicans to say they voted against the Obama amnesty. Hey, it wasn’t their fault the Senate did nothing.

The GOP’s next step in this charade is to pass what’s being called the CRomnibus, a spending bill that funds all of the government through Sept. 30 (the omnibus part) except the Department of Homeland Security, which is extended only through a short continuing resolution (the CR part). Terrified of being blamed for another government “shutdown,” Republicans are punting their budgetary leverage away with the DHS exception. But it appears to be a bill Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid can live with, and that’s the important hurdle to cross right now, particularly as Senate Republicans aren’t very willing to stand up against amnesty.

So far, things have played out more or less as we thought they would. Of course, the Left would blame any government shutdown on Republicans, but at this point it’s beginning to look like immigration reform by fiat may be Barack Obama’s hill to die on, not the House GOP’s.

This fight will demand even more vigilance. A big drawback to this strategy is that Democrats essentially maintain control of the purse strings until September, when the 2016 election will be in sight (although, to be sure, passing the budget in regular order earlier this year would have achieved the same result). Beginning in January, though, the GOP can create its own budget priorities and deliver them on schedule – something unseen in Washington in quite some time. Assuming they pass a package with funding for executive amnesty stripped out, it will be Obama holding the country hostage by having flouted the Rule of Law.

Operation Incoherent Resolve

2014-12-05-65f2c062.jpg

Operation Inherent Resolve, Barack Obama’s haphazard and half-hearted effort to degrade and destroy the Islamic State in Syria and the Levant, got a little more bizarre this week as it was made known the Obama administration is close to a deal that would bring Turkey into the fight against the terrorist group. From the beginning, Obama’s only “inherent resolve” is to avoid doing as much as possible and let others take the lead. One might even call it Operation Incoherent Resolve.

The plan calls for a buffer zone along a portion of the 500-mile western border between Syria and Turkey in which Syrian rebels could move freely. In exchange, U.S.-led air strikes originating from Incirlik Air Base would execute pinpoint strikes on ISIL forces in that zone.

Allowing the U.S. over-flight rights from inside Turkey can make for a more effective air campaign against ISIL forces on the ground. To this point, aircraft had to fly their sorties from the Persian Gulf, nearly 1,000 miles away. Now, planes can stay in the air up to an additional six hours, remaining “on station” to locate and strike targets called out by drones or from the ground.

However, Turkey’s inclusion doesn’t necessarily signal a positive turning point. In fact, things are likely to get even more complicated. Turkey’s relative indifference to ISIL’s rise helped create the situation in the first place. The Turkish government was eager to see the fight against Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad succeed, so it was content to see ISIL fighters launch attacks against Assad from positions along the Turkish border.

To this point, U.S. forces have been walking a fine line between supporting Syrian rebels in their fight against ISIL while trying not to engage with Assad’s forces, which are also fighting against the rebels. Some in Washington worry that this new deal with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan could lead to direct confrontation between U.S. and Syrian forces. U.S.-led airstrikes against ISIL targets inside Syria constantly run the risk of setting off Syrian air defense forces against U.S. planes, forcing the air campaign to operate within guidelines too strict to lead to success. Erdogan heralded his talks with Joe Biden for leading to a new level of cooperation, but he has also railed against Western leaders who “like the conflicts, fights and quarrels of the Middle East” because they work to Western advantage.

It’s difficult to judge just how much Turkey can be trusted as an ally in this fight. Israeli intelligence recently indicated that Hamas has moved its outside-Gaza headquarters from Damascus to Istanbul. Israeli Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon warned in a meeting with former Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel that Turkey has close ties to Hamas. If that is true, and the Turkish government remains complicit in Hamas launching terrorist attacks from its new Istanbul base, then Turkey could officially be considered a state sponsor of terrorism.

Further complicating matters is the involvement of Iran in the fight. Eager to see the destruction of ISIL to prevent a greater Sunni presence in the region, Iran has engaged in a number of airstrikes against ISIL in Iraq, in proximity to the U.S.-led campaign. Secretary of State John Kerry confirmed U.S. knowledge of the Iranian campaign, but insists there is no cooperation with Iran. Essentially, Kerry says, we’re fighting on the same side with Iran, but we’re not fighting alongside them.

In fact, the Iranians have had better success in their proxy war against ISIL than we have to this point. Iraqi forces scored notable victories against the Islamic State with Iranian air support and military aid. Even Iran’s terrorist proxy, Hezbollah, may have pitched in to help win the fight.

Furthermore, Russia has gotten in on the act. Long a supporter of the Assad regime, Moscow has been prodding Assad officials and some rebel leaders to cobble together an agreement to leave Assad in power and effectively neutralize anti-Assad rebel groups. This would create an alliance of forces against ISIL, but it would do so on Russian terms.

Russian and Iranian actions could sideline American attempts to lead the fight against ISIL – which would seem to suit Obama just fine. So far, the U.S. coalition has amounted to pretty much what Ayatollah Ali Khamenei called it: “empty, shallow and biased.” Obama’s actions in the Middle East throughout his presidency – the so-called “red line” against Syria, foolish back channel talks with Iran, pulling out of Iraq only to send forces back in – have led many to question America’s stance like never before.

The Obama administration destroyed U.S. credibility in the region because it doesn’t have a coherent policy. Obama has gone back on his word and contradicted himself too many times. He has allied with known terrorist supporters to fight other known terrorists, all of whom, with the exception of Turkey, America has been in conflict with at some point in the last 15 years. The situation is so confused, and the payoff so far away, it’s worth questioning just what exactly we are trying to accomplish in the Middle East. The White House doesn’t seem to know.

OPINION IN BRIEF

British economist Herbert Spencer (1820-1903): “That which fundamentally distinguishes the slave is that he labors under coercion to satisfy another’s desires. The relation admits of many gradations. Oppressive taxation is a form of slavery of the individual to the community as a whole. The essential question is – How much is he compelled to labor for other benefit than his own, and how much can he labor for his own benefit?”

Columnist Jonah Goldberg: “[R]easonable people can disagree on whether illegally excessive force was to blame [for Eric Garner’s death]. … But you know what reasonable people can’t dispute? New York’s cigarette taxes are partly to blame for Eric Garner’s death. … You can talk all day about how ‘government is just another word for those things we do together,’ but what makes government work is force, not hugs. If you sell raw-milk cheese even after the state tells you to stop, eventually people with guns will show up at your home or office and arrest you. If you resist arrest, something very bad might happen. You might even die for selling bootleg cheese. Everyone agrees: No one should die for selling bootleg cigarettes. But if you pass and enforce a law against such things, you increase the chances things might go wrong. That’s a fact, whether it sounds callous to delicate ears or not.”

Columnist David Harsanyi: “Garner wasn’t targeted for death because he was avoiding taxes, but nonetheless, prohibitive cigarette taxes unnecessarily generate situations that make events such as this possible. We frame violence in this way all the time. We often talk about unintended consequences. When we discuss how women who immigrated to this country illegally can be the helpless victims of domestic violence, we also blame unfair laws for creating the situation. When we talk about the war on drugs and how it creates millions of nonviolent criminals and needless abuse by the Drug Enforcement Administration and others, liberals have little problem blaming the underlying policy that makes all of that possible.”

It's how we stand

Ephesians 6:13 is one of my favorite verses in the Bible. "Wherefore take unto you the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand." This is what we do. Every day we stand. The Daily Jot is there for you to hold up your arms, to gird you with truth, to encourage and exhort you to glorify God with your prayer and action. We tackle the tough issues, say the tough words, try not to sugarcoat what is going on in the world so that you know the score and how to respond. We also reach out through our ministry work in West Africa, which has been involved this year in very effective Ebola education and prevention in the most impoverished areas. It's how we stand.

The months ahead are going to be fraught with deception and difficulty. We as a people need to know who we are and who we are following. Otherwise, at the first sign of problems, our faith could falter. The Daily Jot is dedicated to writing about daily events with prophetic clarity that your faith may be strengthened, that you will be equipped and encouraged to share your faith with others. While often the news is not positive, many find comfort and motivation through The Daily Jot. Here are just a few comments:

"What a blessing your words are to my heart and spirit."--AB

"It is easy to become overwhelmed with fear. We all need STOUT HEARTS for the days ahead. Love your daily Jots. Never hear any of this stuff from the pulpit. Grrr!"--SV

"Your site has not only kept me informed but is changing my life.Your letter today was/is quite a challenge. I need that."--JB

"You are providing a great service in spreading the gospel, in tying bible prophecy to current events and explaining what in fact is transpiring in the world."--NC

You see, we are having an impact. Many are sharing the Jot with their lists. Many websites are posting it. The Daily Jot ministry is doing more than commentary. We are practicing what we are preaching. There are many hurting people out there who are receiving some small help from the Jot. There are hundreds in Africa who are being touched with the truth of the Gospel through our mission work--especially to the Muslims. We are getting outside the four walls of the church and putting our faith into action.

That's where you come in. This ministry operates on very limited funds. There are no subscriptions to the Jot. It is free. We are totally dependent on God's blessing through His people. The past two months, we have been running about $1,200 under budget. It is not much, but it is a lot to those we help. If you agree with those who have commented, and Adonai (my LORD) so moves you, would you consider helping us?

Our small ministry is very accustomed to depending on God's provision through His people. And your obedience in whatever gift you can make goes a long way--we are good stewards. I hope you will join us in keeping the Jot alive and its ministry outreach active. If you are so moved, you can send your tax exempt gift to:

Florida’s Capitol will have a new holiday decoration this year. The Satanic Temple will be among its nativity scenes and secular presentations.

It’s for Festivus, a non-commercial festival “for the rest of us,” is close to coming back as a 6-foot stack of empty beer cans.

The Florida Department of Management Services this week approved the proposed holiday display from the Satanic Temple, which a year ago was rejected because the agency said its proposal was “grossly offensive.”
The temple’s entry was one of five displays that got approval to be put up in the first-floor rotunda of the Capitol for the end-of-year holiday period.

Two additional requested displays, including one to mark the sitcom-created Festivus holiday, are pending final approval.

The state agency offered no explanation with its approval of the displays.
