{ theconservativetreehouse.com } ~ The current issue is the DOJ and FBI refusing to comply with a previous letter sent by Chairman Devin Nunes... to Jeff Sessions requesting information pertinent to ongoing review of potential FISA abuse. Chairman Nunes sent Main Justice a classified letter asking questions. DOJ responded saying they would not comply with providing information. The Washington Post claimed Nunes was looking for information on an FBI/DOJ ‘source’.However, Speaker of the House Paul Ryan said the Nunes inquiry was appropriate. With Ryan’s support, Chairman Nunes threatened to hold Attorney General Jeff Sessions in contempt of congress for non-compliance with valid congressional oversight. DOJ responded saying they’d like a private meeting. Today that meeting took place. House Intelligence Committee Chairman Nunes, and House Oversight Chairman Trey Gowdy, met with Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and his deputy Ed O’Callahan, as well as representatives from the FBI Christopher Wray and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats....

{ timesofisrael.com } ~ Russia reportedly issued a “warning” to Iran hours before 20 missiles were fired at the Golan Heights from Syria... prompting a massive Israeli counter-strike. The Saudi-owned Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper reported Friday that Russian deputy foreign minister Sergei Ryabkov had conveyed the unspecified warning to his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi, in Tehran on Wednesday. Earlier that day, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu flew to Moscow to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to the report, Netanyahu showed the Russian premier evidence that Iran had established bases in Syria and was preparing to launch missiles at Israel...

{ westernjournal.com } ~ Following President Donald Trump’s withdrawal from the Iran nuclear agreement on Tuesday... fears were raised that Iran could launch an attack on Israel via the Islamic Republic’s positions in Syria in an act of retaliation. But such a move would be a major “miscalculation” in the eyes of Republican Sen. Tom Cotton of Arkansas, according to the Washington Examiner. Cotton, an Army combat veteran, has frequently taken a hard stance against the oppressive terrorist-supporting regime in Tehran. Cotton also suggested that a strike on Israel by Iran could very well result in even more destructive retaliatory strikes launched against the regime — not just from Israel, but from the U.S. military as well. “Let me say in unmistakable language: It would be a grave miscalculation of historic magnitude by the ayatollahs if they choose to attack Israel,” Cotton said in an official statement released Tuesday...   https://www.westernjournal.com/ct/cotton-iranian-attack-on-israel/?utm_source=Email&utm_medium=savingourfuture&utm_campaign=dailypm&utm_content=libertyalliance

{ timesofisrael.com } ~ Russian intelligence foiled a terror attack on this week’s massive Victory Day memorial march in Moscow... a top Russian diplomat said on Friday. About 1 million people marched through central Moscow on Wednesday in the annual Immortal Regiment rally, carrying pictures of family members killed in World War II. President Vladimir Putin and visiting Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu joined the march on May 9, the day when Russia marks the end of the war. Deputy Foreign Minister Oleg Syromolotov said in an interview with the Tass news agency on Friday that several terror groups in western Siberia had stockpiled weapons for the attack. Twenty people have been detained and 17 homes were searched as part of the investigation, he said...

{ clarionproject.org } ~ The recent release of documents seized during the 2011 raid that killed al-Qaeda head Osama Bin Laden show... the extent to which Iran was cooperating with al-Qaeda. The release of the documents was quashed during the years of the liar-nObama administration. In fact, documents that were released by the liar-nObama administration emphasized the rivalry between Iran and al-Qaeda. The reason was simple: liar-nObama was intent on signing a nuclear deal with Iran – a deal which would open up the global financial coffers to the world’s largest state sponsor of terrorism. Far from image the liar-nObama administration was painting of the Iranians as reformed “moderates,” such information would have been devastating...

The Demo Hypocrites Blocking Haspel

But, honestly, should we expect any different?

Democrats’ latest obstructionist play is to stand against Trump’s nominee for CIA director, Gina Haspel, a 33-year career veteran of the agency. The Democrats’ objection is that Haspel worked at the agency during those days after the 9/11 terror attacks when the CIA employed “enhanced interrogation” techniques, specifically waterboarding, to extract information out of three prominent al-Qaida terrorist leaders. It was a practice members of both parties supported at the time. The objections to the practice came only years later, after the history and nature of the individuals and threats they presented had long since been forgotten, and when political advantage for Democrats took precedence over national security.
Meanwhile, The New York Times reports that Khalid Shaikh Mohammed, the mastermind behind the 9/11 attacks, pleaded to be able to speak at Haspel’s Senate hearing about his waterboarding experience. The Times writes, “Mr. Mohammed’s request to provide unspecified information to the panel adds a new twist to that debate. It was described by one of his lawyers, Marine Lt. Col. Derek A. Poteet, who is helping to defend him from death penalty charges before the military commissions system at the Guantanamo Bay naval station.” It should go without saying that this request should be denied.
Another interesting aspect to the Democrat resistance to Haspel is the fact that she would be the first woman to ever head the CIA. National Review’s Deroy Murdock pointedly calls out the Democrats’ hypocrisy, writing, “One might expect that Senate Democrats, reputedly the vanguard of ‘the Party of Women,’ would help Haspel shatter the glass ceiling at the CIA, an historically male-dominated institution in an historically male-dominated profession. But Democrats are all too eager to lock arms and block this highly qualified and widely praised woman so that they can high-kick President Donald J. Trump in the teeth. So, high-kick the donkeys do. If that means that the first woman nominated to run the CIA never does so, then too bad for Gina.
As things stand now, her confirmation hangs in the balance. Sen. rino-John McCain, who was actually tortured in Vietnam as opposed to waterboarded (a distinction we believe is critically important), opposes her nomination, though he will be absent for the vote due to treatment for brain cancer. Sen. Rand Paul is also a “no,” while Joe Manchin is the only Democrat senator so far to voice his support. If any more Republicans defect, she may need at least one more Democrat to win confirmation.   ~The Patriot Pos

{ washingtontimes.com } ~ Republican Congressmen Devin Nunes, California, and Trey Gowdy, South Carolina, have been invited to the Justice Department Thursday... for a classified briefing on documents related to the Russia investigation, according to media reports. Mr. Nunes, who chairs the House Intelligence Committee, this threatened to impeach Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and hold Attorney General Jeff Sessions in contempt if the documents were not turned over. A deal is said to have been reached between the Justice and Nunes, according to CNN, which first reported the story. Mr. Nunes and Mr. Rosenstein reportedly discussed the matter over the phone Tuesday night, CNN said. A partisan fight brewed in Congress this week over the documents. Democrats have claimed the Republicans are using the Justice Department’s delay as a reason to justify firing Mr. Sessions and undermine special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia probe. Republicans have argued the documents are crucial to learning about Mr. Mueller’s investigation and what evidence, if any, he has accumulated...

{ westernjournal.com } ~ Democrats mischaracterized emails between top Environmental Protection Agency officials to claim Administrator Scott Pruitt... potentially misused taxpayer dollars by trying to create a new agency office in his hometown. Pruitt directed his staff “to establish a new EPA office in his hometown of Tulsa, Oklahoma,” sparking a wave of media coverage that added to the growing list of complaints against Pruitt, House Democrats claimed. “This most recent case of questionable financial management adds to the growing concerns about Administrator Pruitt’s misuse of taxpayers’ funds and potential ethical lapses in judgement,” alleged House Democrats, led by Texas Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson. However, TheDCNF reviewed emails that suggest Democrats mischaracterized Pruitt’s request. Democrats never disclosed how they came across the emails; nor did they release any to the public...

{ townhall.com } ~ In the aftermath of President Trump announcing earlier this week the United States is leaving the Iran nuclear deal, liar-nObama administration officials, Democrats and their friends in the media have dishonestly proclaimed "all" of America's allies are upset with the decision.

While the French, Brits and Germans have expressed disapproval of Trump's decision, U.S. allies in the Middle East are practically jumping for joy. Some are even praising God.

Bahrain:

"The Iranian nuclear agreement was born thin and lived paralyzed. It was an imperfect agreement that unleashed the hands of Iran to tamper with the security and stability of the region. And today he fell and thank God."

"A great leadership stance by President Donald Trump in favor of the security and stability of the world by withdrawing from Iran's nuclear agreement and tightening the sanctions on the Iranian regime, and Bahrain supports and welcomes."

Israel:

"The deal didn't push war further away. It actually brought it closer. The deal didn't reduce Iran's aggression, it dramatically increased it. We see this across the entire Middle East," Israeli Prime Minster Benjamin Netanyahu said Tuesday afternoon. "This is why Israel thinks that President Trump did a historic move and this is why Israel thanks President Trump for his courageous leadership, his commitment to confront the terrorist regime in Tehran and his commitment to ensure Iran never gs nuclear weapons. Not today, not in a decade, not ever."

{ aei.org } ~ It was one of the liar-Clinton administration’s biggest counterterrorism successes... Just weeks after al-Qaeda terrorists trained by Iran blew up U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania in 1998, Gina Haspel’s phone rang in the middle of the night. She was in her final weeks as station chief in what the CIA describes as an “exotic and tumultuous capital” in central Eurasia, and intelligence had just emerged that two senior al-Qaeda associates linked to the embassy bombings were on their way to the country where she was stationed. Haspel swung into action, devising an operation to capture the terrorists. She worked around the clock, sleeping on the floor of her office, as agents tracked the terrorists to a local hotel, where the men were apprehended after a firefight. According to the CIA, “The successful operation not only led to the terrorists’ arrest and subsequent imprisonment, but to the seizure of computers that contained details of a terrorist plot.” For her efforts during the operation, which ultimately disrupted a terrorist cell, Haspel in 1999 received the George H.W. Bush Award for Excellence in Counterterrorism. This is as much as the CIA has revealed, but according to press accounts, several senior al-Qaeda associates were captured in Baku, Azerbaijan, just weeks after the embassy bombings. They included Ihab Saqr , a top lieutenant of al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri, and Essam Marzouk, who also worked for Zawahiri and had trained two of the embassy bombers. Mossad, Israel’s national intelligence agency, had reportedly intercepted signals indicating that Saqr was headed to Baku to meet an Iranian intelligence operative...   http://www.aei.org/publication/gina-haspel-is-too-qualified-to-pass-up/?mkt_tok=eyJpIjoiTmpnelptVTVZakptWm1WbSIsInQiOiI4U0EyaXhUY3JKTEVoSU1mNGR4VnFxbkRCWVE2bytLN2xoTDRqeFwvVnVKdEcyMW9QcExOT1JUdmk2XC92aUxuM1RFSFRwUUJtXC8zeTNkQXhqXC94YUZLVDZoOU0rZkx5amxyeG9GQzRqSU0rWTUzTkVHMjdYMDlLc0xcL3pwVkRkRW4zIn0%3D

{ thehill.com } ~ Change is in the air in Saudi Arabia. Women wander the streets freely, some with their hair loosely covered by a scarf... others with no head covering at all. Last month, the curtain went up on a showing of “Black Panther” — the first movie to open in the country in 35 years. Gone are the mutawa, the feared religious police, with their bearded hordes of young men who zealously patrolled public spaces to ensure appropriate behavior. Billboards depicting the joint visages of King Salman and his son, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, beam down upon pedestrians and street traffic. But make no mistake: this is Mohammed bin Salman’s Saudi Arabia. The 32 year-old royal’s reform plans – known in policy circles as Vision 2030 – have injected an unprecedented degree of vitality into the country. It’s a breath of fresh air, after decades of austere, octogenarian rulers who seemed content to allow Saudi Arabia to languish. Yet, it is too soon for MBS, as he is known, to take a victory lap. On the economic front, the kingdom has undertaken rapid regulatory changes to boost economic growth. It has trimmed subsidies, enacted taxation with a value added tax and a “sin tax,” and increased electricity tariffs. Riyadh deepened its capital markets by increasing foreign ownership limits and launching a parallel market for smaller enterprises...    http://thehill.com/opinion/international/386762-the-delicate-balance-of-the-us-saudi-relationship

{ dailycaller.com } ~ Lawyers for Russian company Concord Management and Consulting, LLC, formally entered a “not guilty” plea... in federal court Monday in a case special counsel Robert Mueller probably never thought would happen. Mueller, weathering significant criticism that his Russian collusion case was thin, unveiled a grandiose indictment Feb. 16 against 13 Russian nationals and three Russian companies. The 13 Russians in question were charged with waging “information warfare” in the United States, interfering with the 2016 presidential election, and conspiracy to defraud the United States. Mueller generated headlines with the February indictment, safe in the knowledge the 13 Russians were beyond U.S. jurisdiction. Therefore, there would be no trial — only sensational Russian collusion accusations...

{ israeltoday.co.il } ~ Iran overnight finally launched its long-anticipated retaliatory attack on Israel after a series of IAF strikes on Iranian targets in Syria... over the past three months. At 12:15 AM, the "Code Red" alert went off in scores of Israeli communities on the Golan Heights, forcing residents into their bomb shelters. Shortly afterwards, Iran launched 30 missiles at Israel, and at least one of them was aimed at the city of Safed in the northern Galilee. That missile most likely an upgraded Scud was subsequently intercepted by the Patriot anti-missile system. This reporter witnessed first-hand how the Iron Dome anti-missile shield downed four Fajr or Grad missiles in the skies above the Golan Heights, and how Israeli fighter jets continuously took off for four hours during an extensive offensive against Iran in Syria...

{ gatestoneinstitute.org } ~ On April 22, an ISIS terrorist at a voter-registration office in Afghanistan's capital city of Kabul blew himself up... killing at least 60 innocent people and wounding an additional 100. The following day, the United States condemned the suicide bombing, while repeating America's policy of counterinsurgency and nation-building in Afghanistan. "This attack on this polling station reaffirms our commitment to our Afghan partners and reaffirms on why we have to focus on rooting out violent extremism," Pentagon spokesman US Army Col. Robert Manning said. "When citizens can't go and register and exercise their democratic right to vote, that's a problem. They certainly deserve it, and that's why we are going to stay there to make sure we can work with our Afghan partners to afford them that right." In her daily news briefing with reporters, White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders Huckabee made a similar statement about the US administration "continuing to move forward" with its current strategy in South Asia. Yet, while US policy-makers are trying desperately to stabilize Afghanistan, a shift is being orchestrated by China, which stands to gain from what Afghani author  Mushtaq Rahim recently referred to as Beijing's "economic development agenda."...

{ townhall.com } ~ Following the 2016 election, President liar-nObama rightly warned the Trump transition team "we only have one president at a time." It was a reminder that there can be just one person articulating American foreign policy so world leaders will have no doubt as to the United States' intentions.

liar-nObama's former secretary of state, hanoi-John Kerry, ignored that warning and has been behaving as if he's still in office.

hanoi-Kerry, writes the Boston Globe, "engaged in some unusual shadow diplomacy" with Iran's foreign minister, Javad Zarif, at the United Nations in New York, reportedly to try and salvage the Iran nuclear deal they "spent years negotiating." On Tuesday, President Trump followed through on his promise to end America's participation in the deal. In response, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) tweeted that it "does not further U.S. national security," neither was it a "binding agreement under U.S. law because it was never submitted for Senate approval." Rubio called it a "political agreement by the previous administration."

Last week, in an apparent attempt to influence the president's decision on re-certifying Iran's compliance, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu revealed a treasure trove of documents obtained by Mossad, Israel's intelligence agency, which he said proves Iran has been cheating on the agreement. Apparently, this had no influence on hanoi-Kerry.

This is why we have the Logan Act, which forbids private citizens "from engaging in unauthorized correspondence with foreign governments" that have "any disputes or controversies with the United States." That includes direct or indirect correspondence, unauthorized meetings or discussions, any contact at all. Violation can result in a fine, up to three years in prison, or both.

Is hanoi-John Kerry an authorized person? No. Is Iran a foreign government? Yes. Does Iran have a "dispute" with the United States? It does. Has hanoi-John Kerry committed a criminal offense?

The chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA), has called forhanoi-Kerry to be arrested for violating the Logan Act. That is as likely to happen as liar-Hillary Clinton being "locked up" for what she did with her "irresponsible" handling of classified emails.

hanoi-Kerry isn't the first person to attempt to undermine the policies of an administration. In the early '80s, Sen. Edward Kennedy (D-MA) sent a letter to the head of the KGB in what was regarded as an effort to counter President Reagan's arms build-up and put the Soviet Union "on the ash heap of history."

In a 1983 memo addressing the letter, sent by KGB head Viktor Chebrikov to then-Soviet General Secretary Yuri Andropov, Chebrikov explained that Kennedy was eager to "counter the militaristic policies" of Reagan.

Writes Forbes.com, Kennedy's message was simple: "...Kennedy would lend Andropov a hand in dealing with President Reagan. In return, the Soviet leader would lend the Democratic Party a hand in challenging Reagan in the 1984 presidential election. 'The only real potential threats to Reagan are problems of war and peace and Soviet-American relations,' the memorandum stated. 'These issues, according to the senator, will without a doubt become the most important of the election campaign.'

"Kennedy then offered to make it possible for Andropov to sit down for a few interviews on American television. 'A direct appeal ... to the American people will ... attract a great deal of attention and interest in the country. ... If the proposal is recognized as worthy, then Kennedy and his friends will bring about suitable steps to have representatives of the largest television companies in the USA contact Y.V. Andropov for an invitation to Moscow for the interviews."

Fortunately, Reagan's policy of "peace through strength" prevailed. Kennedy clearly was in violation of the Logan Act, yet paid no price for his meddling.

Congress should clarify the Logan Act. If people like hanoi-Kerry and Kennedy can get away with their actions, is the law still relevant? Should it be? Yes it is, and yes it should. Congress needs to answer these questions soon to prevent a recurrence of this dangerous practice.

The Israeli Defense Force said it deployed fighter jets and used missiles to strike a range of targets, including military compounds, intelligence operations and munitions warehouses, a statement read. The strikes were Israel's largest air operation in Syria since the 1973 Yom Kippur War. “The IDF will not allow the Iranian threat to establish itself in Syria. The Syrian regime will be held accountable for everything happening in its territory,” the press release read. “The IDF is prepared for a wide variety of scenarios.”...   http://www.foxnews.com/world/2018/05/10/israel-strikes-nearly-all-iranian-infrastructure-in-syria-after-iran-rocket-attack-minister-says.html

{ freebeacon.com } ~ Sen. Dianne Fein-stein (D., Calif.) on Wednesday questioned CIA director nominee Gina Haspel using inaccurate information... that has since been corrected by the original author. The passage in question was written by former CIA lawyer John Rizzo in the book Company Man, and reports citing his book claimed Haspel ran an interrogation program at a CIA site where al Qaeda suspect Abu Zubaydah was interrogated, but Rizzo has corrected that claim. Fein-stein asked her question after saying she likes Haspel "personally very much," and Haspel took the opportunity to correct the senator regarding Rizzo’s writing. "Senator, I am so pleased you asked me that question," Haspel said before saying she did not run the program and noting Rizzo corrected the record. "If you have your staff check, Mr. Rizzo has issued a correction," Haspel said...

{ freebeacon.com } ~ Defense Secretary Jim Mattis said Wednesday the Trump administration is working with U.S. allies on a measure to prevent Iran from procuring a nuclear weapon... less than 24 hours after President Donald Trump torpedoed the liar-nObama-era Iran nuclear deal. Testifying before the defense subcommittee of the Senate Appropriations Committee, Mattis said Trump withdrew the United States from the 2015 Iran nuclear accord on Tuesday because he was unable to confirm Tehran's compliance to its provisions, which exchanged sanctions relief for a pause on the regime's nuclear program. "We have walked away from the JCPOA because we feel that it was inadequate for the long-term effort and this is something that was probably noted by the Senate several years ago when the Senate did not endorse it as a treaty," Mattis said, referring to the deal's official name, the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action...

{ freebeacon.com } ~ I was anxious about Gina Haspel's confirmation hearing. Here is a woman who has spent her life purposefully in the shadows... brought before a committee whose members bask in the spotlight. Here is a career intelligence officer, a keeper of secrets, an agent of dissimulation whose professional future depends, at least in part, on her ability to speak directly and persuasively in a public forum. And close to the entirety of her life remains classified, making her job all the more difficult. But my fears were misplaced. Haspel played a tough hand extremely well. The headline will be her promise that the CIA won't restart enhanced interrogation during her tenure. But her best moments occurred during questioning. She exposed Dianne Fein-stein in a misstatement, defended her integrity against Martin Heinrich's virtue signaling, left Jack Reed speechless, and described the perfidy of Khalid Sheikh Mohamed and Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri. KSM was the architect of the 9/11 attack and the murderer of Daniel Pearl, and al-Nashiri was behind the bombing of the U.S.S. Cole, in case you've forgotten. Many have. Indeed, Haspel noted that the debate surrounding rendition, detention, and enhanced interrogation, and society's condemnation of these policies, took place after the sense of constant threat Americans felt in 2001 and 2002 dissipated. It is one thing to pronounce judgment on Haspel and her agency after the laws have been changed and practices investigated. It is another to imagine how one would have acted in her shoes, working to prevent another mass casualty attack in a confusing, turbulent, and dangerous moment...   http://freebeacon.com/columns/nancy-pelosi-knew-about-enhanced-interrogation-before-gina-haspel/?utm_source=Freedom+Mail&utm_campaign=8ab207f832-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2018_05_09&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_b5e6e0e9ea-8ab207f832-45611665

by Judge Andrew Napolitano
{ townhall.com } ~ Late last week, a federal judge in Alexandria, Virginia, questioned the authority of special counsel Robert Mueller to seek an indictment and pursue the prosecution of former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort for alleged financial crimes that, according to the indictment, began and ended well before Donald Trump ran for president. Mueller was appointed special counsel by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein because of allegations that Rosenstein accepted of a conspiracy by members of the Trump campaign to accept assistance from a foreign person, entity or government, which is a felony.

The application by Manafort's lawyers before Judge T.S. Ellis III was actually a motion to dismiss the indictment against Manafort for want of jurisdiction. Stated differently, Manafort argued that Mueller exceeded the authority granted to him by the Department of Justice and thus he has no legal ability -- jurisdiction -- to prosecute Manafort. During the course of the oral argument on this motion, the judge opined that in his view, Mueller is only prosecuting Manafort for bank and tax fraud to squeeze him to testify against President Trump on matters that might be impeachable.

The judge's comments as to Mueller's motivation are dicta. Dicta are the unsolicited, unnecessary and often personal opinions of the court on matters not strictly before the court and not integral to the court's ruling. Stated differently, there is an abundance of speculation in the media but zero evidence in the record before Judge Ellis -- zero -- on which he could base his opinion; and his opinion of the prosecutor's motivation is irrelevant. It made national headlines because Trump supporters agree with it, and it is probably accurate -- but it is legally meaningless.

Even if Judge Ellis were to dismiss the indictment against Manafort for want of Mueller's jurisdiction, the dismissal would mean only that Mueller cannot prosecute Manafort, not that Manafort cannot be prosecuted on these charges.

If the present indictment were to be dismissed, the local federal prosecutors in Alexandria would present the Mueller-gathered evidence against Manafort to another grand jury and ask it to issue a new indictment that makes the identical charges as those now pending. Then they would prosecute Manafort on the same charges that Mueller originally brought. The financial crimes charged, though unrelated to Mueller's initial duty of looking for a conspiracy between the Trump campaign and foreigners, are real, and no federal prosecutors with jurisdiction could ethically overlook them.

Judge Ellis' actual ruling -- clouded by the fog of his dicta -- gave Mueller two weeks to demonstrate his lawful jurisdiction. He can easily do that with a letter from Rosenstein. The letter can even be retroactive. Thus, all this focus on Judge Ellis' personal opinion of Mueller's motivation is much ado about national politics and has little to do with the rule of law. Who cares what a judge thinks about the motivations of the prosecutors?

The practice of indicting a person for a matter utterly unrelated to the core of the government's investigation in order to turn the indicted person into a government witness, though often repellant, is commonplace and has received approval by numerous Supreme Court opinions. Clearly, obtaining a guilty plea from retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, the president's former national security adviser, for lying to FBI agents about the existence of a lawful telephone conversation and obtaining a guilty plea from Rick Gates, Manafort's former business partner and deputy Trump campaign manager, for lying about who said what at a lawful meeting are parts of a plan to get these folks to give evidence or testimony about the president that prosecutors want to hear.

I have characterized this prosecutorial behavior as extortion or bribery, but I am in a small minority in the legal and judicial communities. The courts have made clear that prosecutors can nullify prison exposure by reducing charges to induce the testimony they want from a witness. Yet if defense counsel gave the same witness so much as a lollipop to shade his testimony, both would be indicted for bribery.

All this leads to the question: How independent are these prosecutors? The modern, post-Nixon Department of Justice has a little bit of unaccountability intentionally built into it based on natural law principles of right and wrong and on fear of an imperial presidency. President Richard Nixon believed he could do as he pleased with his DOJ -- and even boasted that if he did something, by definition it was not unlawful.

But prosecutors have ethical and moral obligations to prosecute crimes, and those duties transcend politics. Suppose President Trump told prosecutors not to prosecute his former friend Harvey Weinstein or his former lawyer Michael Cohen? I expect they would rightly ignore him.

I know this argument offends the belief of many of my colleagues that the Constitution gives the president sole and total command over all behavior in the executive branch of the federal government. But the natural law is superior to the Constitution and superior to the government.

The natural law teaches that through the exercise of reason, we know in our hearts what is right and what is wrong. Some things are right no matter what the government says, and some things are wrong no matter what the government says. The limited quasi-independence of the modern Department of Justice, born in the ashes of a presidency that publicly proclaimed that it could do no wrong, is a hallmark to these principles.

I offer these arguments because it now appears that the feared clash between President Trump and special counsel Mueller will soon come to a head, and one can only hope that the rule of law will prevail. But the rule of law is only a safeguard of our liberties when the people in whose hands we repose it for safekeeping are faithful to it though, in the motto of the DOJ, the heavens fall.

{ frontpagemag.com } ~ President Trump greeted three American prisoners freed by North Korea Thursday morning... marking a significant diplomatic milestone between the longtime adversaries. The freed prisoners, Kim Dong-chul, Tony Kim and Kim Hak-song, were escorted back to the U.S. by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, arriving at Joint Base Andrews outside of Washington at 2:42 a.m. Thursday. Shortly after, Trump and First Lady Melania Trump boarded the plane to meet the Americans before accompanying them to the tarmac. "The fact we were able to get them out so soon was a tribute to a lot of things," Trump said to a crowd of journalists. "I just want to say, this is a special night."...   https://www.frontpagemag.com/point/270147/president-trump-meets-freed-north-korea-prisoners-daniel-greenfield.

We might like Nancy Pulosi in the Bay Area, but America doesn’t.”

{ rickwells.us } ~ Corrupt Attorney General Jeff Sessions is once again shielding DOJ and the liar-nObama regime from exposure in their COUP attempt against President Trump... and their related anti-American activities. In the white hat, battling with the liar-nObama-planted operative, Sessions, is the good guy, chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, Rep Devin Nunes (R-CA). At issue this time is the revealing of a top-secret source who has, according to the Washington Post, provided  information to the CIAand FBI and who has also collected information that was handed over to Grand Inquisitor Mueller as part of the witch hunt impeachment  document preparation effort. Although Rep Nunes has the highest security classification in Congress, he and his committee are not allowed to see what Sessions and his gang of outlaws are hiding. Someone leaked the informant’s existence to the Washington Post and the content of the information is known to have been provided to the subversive Mueller, as well as hit team of Democrat hit men and women...   https://rickwells.us/sessions-mueller-block-subpoena/

{ lidblog.com } ~ Well, whaddayaknow! This Mueller investigation… is all rino-John McCain’s fault. In his new book,“The Restless Wave,” rino-McCain (R-AZ) confirms that he was the person who gave the FBI Director James Comey, the salacious and bogus Russian dossier. “I agreed to receive a copy of what is now referred to as ‘the dossier,’” rino-McCain writes in the upcoming book, titled The Restless Wave, referencing information compiled by former British intelligence officer Christopher Steele. “I reviewed its contents. The allegations were disturbing, but I had no idea which if any were true. I could not independently verify any of it, and so I did what any American who cares about our nation’s security should have done.” rino-McCain recounts how he put the dossier in a safe in his office and called Comey’s office to request a meeting: “I went to see him at his earliest convenience, handed him the dossier, explained how it had come into my possession.”...rino-John you fail as a senator to check if it was all true.   https://lidblog.com/john-mccain-gave-fbi-the-dossier/

The Return of 'Last Man Standing'

r-fW8fq56jCDYa6-qXu2y291BJJteEWJzegqgomXLhrBY11nWHD8g58KGqr_Wx8y0_uWMLinsrT5Li5D7kz2f0Dlp5EPpS_wydfHrh5cK9liYW6bhGO8ckQhZiB3_4mGcwEZMl9gTqHrHyzplBOPJgi3hQtgJGW5RKXnv9CLwr4=s0-d-e1-ft#%3Ca%20rel%3Dnofollow%20href=?width=450by Nate Jackson:  One year ago, ABC canceled it’s hit series “Last Man Standing,” and we surmised it was due to star Tim Allen’s conservative political leanings both in real life and as the show’s lead character, Mike Baxter. “There’s nothing more dangerous, especially in this climate, than a funny, likable conservative,” Allen said after the shocking cancellation, though ABC of course insisted politics had nothing to do with it. Allen never gave up trying to get the show restarted, however, and it paid off — Fox is picking up the show’s season seven for the 2018-2019 season.

But this is no “Roseanne” — a show recently rebooted to appeal to Donald Trump’s supporters but without a truly conservative character. Allen has long been to the right of center, and thus has genuine appeal, while Roseanne Barr once ran for president on the Green Party ticket and her character espouses all sorts of leftist views.
There’s more to it. As Heather Moon notes at The Resurgent, “One of the things that makes ‘Last Man Standing’ such a fan favorite is its ability to make fun of the current political climate. Conservatives on the show certainly make fun of the liberals, but they also make fun of themselves. Matt Groening, creator of ‘The Simpsons,’ recently noted that people love to pretend they are offended see the recent flap over Apu], and this makes comedy much more difficult. However, in 2014, ‘Saturday Night Live’ creator Lorne Michaels explained that his show makes fun of conservatives more often because they actually have a sense of humor and can laugh it off. He explained that jokes aimed at liberals are too often taken personally, resulting in ‘offense’ as Groening noted, and making it very hard to make fun of liberals. ‘Last Man Standing’ is able to navigate jokes on both sides more easily, since the show does not tend to attract many liberal viewers.)
In any case, it’ll be fun to see the Baxters back on television with a decent family comedy that resists the #Resistance.   ~The Patriot Pos

{ rickwells.us } ~ Martha MacCallum asked a question of Rep Jim Jordan (R-OH) that was similar to what most of the television talking heads were asking,.. “What do you make of all of this? It’s all over everywhere that this proves something or shows at the very least that Michael Cohen may have been selling access to the President or promising access to the President?” Jordan, like most of the American people who aren’t globalist liar-Clinton supporters, isn’t interested in Michael Cohen’s relationship with his client. He’s already had more than enough of the corrupt establishment deep state attempting to overthrow the President and reverse the results of the election. Jordan redirects to a more relevant, substantive question regarding the report, saying, “What I think is interesting is why did the New York Times get access to this? I mean look, it’s tougher for Congress to get access to documents we’re constitutionally entitled to but the New York Times can review these documents? I think that’s an interesting question.”...

{ timesofisrael.com } ~ Some 20 rockets were fired at Israeli military bases by Iranian forces in southern Syria... just after midnight on Thursday, with some of the incoming missiles being intercepted by the Iron Dome defense system, the army said, amid sky high tensions on the northern border. There were no reports of Israeli casualties in the attack. An army spokesperson said damage was caused to Israeli military bases, but that it was “limited.” The Israeli army said the missile barrage was carried out by members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps’ Quds Forces. { constitution.com } ~When Donald Trump tells America that he’s going to do something, by God he’s going to do it, no matter how lofty or complex that goal might be... This sentiment has been floating around the Trump-o-sphere for some time, with a great many of the President’s campaign promises begging the question to American voters, “how in the world does he plan to achieve so much”? Now, despite the hefty efforts of a resistant and radical left, President Trump has a number of diplomatic and determined successes to rattle off when confronted by the lunacy of the liberal media. One such achievement has been the wholesale neutering of North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un through the implementation of some rather tough sanctions. Not only will the DPRK be denuclearizing starting almost immediately, but, with Mike Pompeo finally secured as Secretary of State, some other loose ends are getting tightened up as well...

Dems' Tax-Hike Plans Take a Hit

Then Tuesday night came and, much to Democrats’ chagrin, the most dangerous Republican candidates to Dems’ hopes of a “blue wave” won. In other words, Tuesday night proved to be a good night for the GOP, dimming Democrat dreams for regaining control of the Senate and maybe even the House in November.

The two most significant primary wins for Republicans came in the states of Indiana and West Virginia, both having heavily voted for Donald Trump. In Indiana, Washington outsider and anti-establishment candidate Mike Braun won the primary and will face off against Joe Donnelly, the vulnerable Democrat incumbent senator. Of the three Republicans who ran, Braun was widely considered the best candidate to challenge Donnelly. In West Virginia, former Massey Energy CEO and ex-convict Don Blankenship was defeated by a wide margin, coming in a distant third with just 20%; the victor was state Attorney General Patrick Morrisey, who was instrumental in blocking Barack liar-nObama’s Clean Power Plan and saving the coal industry. That’s huge in West Virginia, and Democrat Sen. Joe Manchin must be sweating it now.
Meanwhile, if Democrat hopes for a “blue wave” are to materialize, Rep. Nancy Pulosi (D-CA) seems bound and determined to make it as difficult as possible. The House minority leader declared this week (again) that one of Democrats’ primary goals is to raise taxes. On Tuesday, a reporter asked Pulosi to respond to a Republican ad charging that, should Democrats regain control of Congress, they would seek to “institute a single-payer health care program” and raise taxes. Pulosi responded, “I think they mean roll back the tax cuts they passed this year. Well, the second part there is accurate.” She added, “I do think we should revisit the tax legislation in … a bipartisan, transparent way.”
Remember, not a single Democrat voted to reduce anyone’s tax burden last year.
So while the Democrats’ anti-Trump base may be loving the prospect of getting back at the president, there are a couple of warning signs for Democrats. First, polls show that a majority of Americans now view the Robert Mueller investigation against Trump as primarily politically motivated. That may not seem like much, but it’s the spearhead of the #Resistance, and the American people are seriously skeptical. Second, and even more significantly, a good economy is bad for Democrats — and we’re in the midst of a good economy.
Obviously, the midterms are still months away and, as that old adage goes, don’t count your chickens before they hatch. But the Democrats’ strategy of offering little more than Trump-bashing in the midst of a booming economy may prove to backfire.   ~The Patriot Pos

{ westernjournal.com } ~ A key campaign pledge of then-presidential candidate Donald Trump was to enforce immigration laws and secure the border with a wall... Although President Trump has faced obstruction in building that promised wall, his administration is cracking down on illegal immigration nonetheless. The Washington Times reported on a major immigration enforcement policy announcement Monday from Attorney General Jeff Sessions and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement head Thomas Homan near the border in San Diego. The new policy, which is significantly stricter than that of the liar-nObama administration, is that any and all illegal immigrants caught crossing the border illicitly will be charged with illegally entering the country, and parents who bring children across with them could face additional charges of human smuggling. The parents will also be detained — separate from their children — while awaiting a hearing on the charges...  https://www.westernjournal.com/ct/every-illegal-border-charged/?utm_source=Email&utm_medium=conservative-brief-CT&utm_campaign=dailyam&utm_content=conservative-tribune

{ thenewamerican.com } ~ Citigroup announced last week that exports of crude and finished oil products from the United States would overtake Saudi Arabia’s by next year... Last week, the U.S. exported 8.3 million barrels per day (bpd) of crude and finished petroleum products. While Saudi Arabia exported 9.3 million bpd of crude and refined products in Janurary, the kingdom plans to cut crude exports to under seven million bpd in May. With the coming sanctions against Iran thanks to the president’s termination of the Iranian “nuclear deal” on Tuesday, up to another million bpd of crude could be removed from global supply, tilting further the advantage to U.S. producers. Those sanctions set up the U.S. oil industry to continue to fill the vacuum just as quickly as it can find skilled roughnecks to put up idled rigs and complete wells that were drilled just waiting for an opportunity such as this. Those DUCs — drilled but uncompleted  — wells number above 4,000 and are being brought online as quickly as possible. Labor and material bottlenecks are being resolved, and with oil in the high 60s and lifting costs in the low 30s, the boom in U.S. production will continue to set records. { dailycaller.com } ~ CIA director nominee Gina Haspel left Rhode Island Democratic Sen. Jack Reed speechless... after asking her a hypothetical question about morality during her confirmation hearing Wednesday. When asked by Reed if she thinks it is “immoral” for our enemies to waterboard a captured CIA operations officer, Haspel responded by reminding Reed of the terrorists who have killed CIA agents and criticized the comparison between a CIA officer serving their country and a terrorist, leaving Reed speechless. “It’s very simple. You have an operations officer who is captured. He’s being waterboarded. I’ve asked you very simply: would you determine that to be immoral and something that should never be done, condoned in any way, shape, or form?” Reed asked. “Your response seems to be that civilized nations don’t do it, but uncivilized nations do it — or uncivilized groups do it. A civilized nation was doing it until it was outlawed by this Congress”...

{ theblaze.com } ~ Trump officially pulled the United States out of a nuclear deal with Iran that he has long derided as a terrible arrangement... despite pleas from European allies to remain in the accord. In particular, Germany, the United Kingdom and France urged the U.S. to stay in the deal. Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said he plans to continue working with European leaders to preserve what’s left of the deal, although there is a chance Iran will simply opt to restart its nuclear program. What about ‘Death to America’ Although the display from the Iranian lawmakers provides a shocking visual, “Death to America” is a relatively common slogan in Iran, even in parliament, dating back nearly four decades...   https://www.theblaze.com/news/2018/05/09/iranian-lawmakers-burn-paper-us-flag-chant-death-to-america-after-trump-ends-nuclear-deal?utm_source=Sailthru&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Daily-Newsletter__PM-Final%202018-05-09&utm_term=TheBlaze%20Daily%20PM%20-%20last%20270%20days

Promise Kept — Trump Nukes Iran Deal

cgITT8eCNmAsxtZy2AzlwH3Z9A4lFsjJVmi0cVFGBMbBad9MsWelax949rKKONrK6w-UlpdIuMJnOGggWdy3HmTcV0OSM5M-cmWqpq9Ege5WAcI0A48BmZW729tn6jDobc8rdko_KdB4GriYQxeeUYG4RvO5Z340H5TyfoBWBJY=s0-d-e1-ft#%3Ca%20rel%3Dnofollow%20href=?width=450by National Security Desk:  Keeping his promise, President Donald Trump announced Tuesday that the United States will withdraw from the “horrible” Iran nuclear deal (the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action) and reinstate sanctions that were suspended as part of the deal. “We will not allow American cities to be threatened with destruction. We will not allow a regime that chants ‘Death to America’ to gain access to the most deadly weapons on earth,” Trump declared. “Today’s action sends a critical message: The United States no longer makes empty threats. When I make promises I keep them.”

Despite attempts by the Europeans to dissuade Trump, despite hanoi-John Kerry’s smoke-filled-backroom efforts to save the deal, and despite Iran warning that it would be “a historic mistake” to withdraw, the president reiterated what he has said all along: “We cannot prevent an Iranian nuclear bomb under the decaying and rotten structure of the current agreement.” Trump reportedly remains open to improving the deal, and he will now have economic leverage to persuade Iran and the Europeans to do just that.
Barack liar-nObama, who paid the Iranians $1.7 billion in ransom cash loaded on pallets as well as hundreds of billions more in sanctions relief, predictably criticized the decision to withdraw — which is tantamount to an endorsement in our book. “Walking away from the JCPOA turns our back on America’s closest allies,” liar-nObama admonished, adding that it’s “a serious mistake.” But the biggest mistake was made by liar-nObama and his feckless secretary of state, hanoi-Kerry, caving in to one Iranian demand after another and agreeing to the deal. As we said at the time, “You want it bad, you’ll get it bad.
liar-nObama was so desperate for a foreign policy “victory” that getting a deal was more important than the content of the deal. Having agreed to a deal that he knew would never pass the Senate as a treaty, the minute the ink was dry liar-nObama instead ran to the United Nations, which passed a Security Council Resolution establishing the deal’s terms. But only laws passed by the U.S. Congress, or treaties approved by the Senate, are binding on the actions of the United States. And as “constitutional scholar” liar-nObama and long-time Senator hanoi-Kerry undoubtedly knew, any deal that really was in the United States’ best interest would have been able to pass muster in the Senate and gain the two-thirds votes needed to ratify a treaty.
liar-nObama and his various minions told us time after time that the deal would moderate Iran’s behavior and help bring it back into the community of nations, but a quick survey of recent events shows the spectacular deception of that claim.
Iran is fighting a proxy war in Syria to keep Bashar al-Assad’s murderous regime in power, and it probably has more troops on the ground than any group other than the Syrian Army. It continues flying military equipment into Syria via Iraq, attracting the occasional Israeli airstrike (including one just last night) and risking major escalation of the fighting there. Its proxies in Yemen have fired Iranian-made weapons at U.S. Navy ships in the Red Sea, as well as used one of Iran’s signature weapons, the explosive boat, to hit and severely damage a Saudi warship. Its ballistic missile activity has continued unabated, despite UN Security Council Resolution 2231’s prohibitions on such activity. In addition to missile testing, Iran has actually fired ballistic missiles at targets in Syria, and its Yemeni proxies have fired Iranian-made missiles into Saudi Arabia.
Needless to say, we don’t see much moderating in Iran’s behavior. Worse, liar-nObama helped fund Iran’s increased terror sponsorship.
In the coming days and weeks we expect the various actors that supported the deal — Democrats, the Leftmedia, the Europeans, the Iranians — will all make the most of the opportunity to paint President Trump as a bumptious and warmongering rube. The Europeans will follow liar-nObama’s cue and decry the undiplomatic behavior of withdrawing from a gentlemen’s agreement. The Iranians will shout about the untrustworthy nature of the United States. We even expect Rep. mad-Maxine Waters will ascribe racism to President Trump’s decision, claiming it is an act of spite against his African-American predecessor.
But all the wailing and teeth-gnashing among various Europeans, Iranians, Democrats (and even some short-sighted Republicans) will merely serve to demonstrate the double injury liar-nObama inflicted when he accepted the deal. The first injury was the deal itself. The second, as we said at the time, was that some future president would have to withdraw and harm our standing with friends and foes alike.
That day has now come, and our standing with our European allies may indeed suffer temporarily. Iran may try to create even more mischief around the Middle East. Oil markets and the U.S. and world economies may feel some pain as Iran’s oil market is squeezed.
But the undeniable fact is that the existing nuclear agreement merely kicked the can down the road for a decade, ensuring that Iran would emerge with a full, UN-approved nuclear fuel cycle that would enable very rapid nuclear breakout in the future. Dealing with this problem now, even if painful, is vastly better than dealing with it later, when it may not only be painful but also deadly. Withdrawing from the nuclear deal is a first step in the right direction.
On a final note, North Korea’s Kim Jong-un should take note that Trump isn’t messing around. Perhaps he already has, as Secretary of State Mike Pompeo returns home today from Pyongyang with three released American hostages.   ~The Patriot Pos

{ gatestoneinstitute.org } ~ For decades now, Palestinians have interpreted Israeli concessions and gestures as signs of weakness... This fact is important to bear this in mind as the US administration prepares to launch its plan for peace in the Middle East, which President Donald Trump has referred to as the "deal of the century." A report in the Israeli daily Ma'ariv on May 4th claimed that the "deal of the century" calls for placing four Arab neighborhoods in Jerusalem under the control of the Palestinian Authority. The four neighborhoods, according to the report, are Jabal Mukaber, Essawiyeh, Shu'fat and Abu Dis. Ma'ariv wrote that the details of the US peace plan were presented to Defense Minister Avigdor  Liberman during his visit to Washington last week. The four neighborhoods are only a few miles away from the Knesset, the Prime Minister's Office and other symbols of Israeli sovereignty. Thus, Palestinian sovereignty over the four neighborhoods is of symbolic importance. Make no mistake: the Palestinians will see their presence in the four neighborhoods as the first step towards the redivision of Jerusalem...  https://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/12271/palestinians-peace-path

{ conservativefreepress.com } ~ If we recall that Mueller was originally appointed to investigate Russian interference in the 2016 election... then the charges his office brought against Russian companies and citizens earlier this year are the only evidence that he’s actually been doing his job. According to Politico, attorneys Eric Dubelier and Kate Seikaly, representing one of the Russian firms named in the indictment, have asked the court to provide “nonpublic details about the case and the investigation.” This would be a little thing called discovery, which the defense is entitled to. Politico phrased it as such: “The move appeared to be a bid to force Mueller’s team to turn over relevant evidence to the Russian firm and perhaps even bait prosecutors into an embarrassing dismissal in order to avoid disclosing sensitive information.” But Mueller doesn’t want to do that because Mueller doesn’t give a damn about Manafort, Flynn, or these Russian charges. He has one big fish in mind and it’s the President of the United States...

Israel Launches Airstrikes On Syria
Immediately After Trump Withdraws From Iran Nuclear Deal
by MAC SLAVO

{ freedomoutpost.com } ~ It was announced yesterday that president Donald Trump was withdrawing the United States from the 2015 Iran nuclear agreement... Almost immediately after the president announced the withdrawal, Israel began bombing Syria allegedly targeting Iranian missile sites. Nine pro-Syrian fighters were reportedly killed in the Israeli airstrike near the Syrian capital of Damascus on Tuesday. The attack came just moments after Trump announced the withdrawal from the 2015 nuclear deal enacted by Barack liar-nObama. “Over the years, Iran and its proxies have bombed American embassies and military installations, murdered hundreds of American service members, and kidnapped, imprisoned, and tortured American citizens,” Trump said in a statement on Tuesday, according to Business Insider. “We will be instituting the highest level of economic sanction,” Trump continued. “Any nation that helps Iran in its quest for nuclear weapons could also be strongly sanctioned by the United States.”...Watch out Russia and China..

{ townhall.com } ~ The "wall of protection" conservative media has erected around President Trump may be crumbling.

Fox News Channel, whose opinion programs -- especially Sean Hannity's -- have been staunch defenders some critics say mouthpieces for the president, and The Wall Street Journal, which editorially has been generally supportive of the president's policies, last week went on the attack.

In a lengthy commentary, Fox News anchor Neil Cavuto directly addressed the president, noting he had "promised to drain the swamp, but you are muddying the waters." The reference was to Trump's admission that he authorized a $130,000 payoff to adult film star "Stormy Daniels" to secure her silence about an alleged one-night stand she had with him. This after vehemently denying the incident ever happened. Cavuto also cited numerous other false claims, comments, charges and accusations made by the president.

A lead editorial in last Friday's Wall Street Journal addressed those who say they don't care about the president's personal life, but are only interested in his policies, which they see as working: "But Mr. Trump's public deceptions are surely relevant to his job as president, and the attempted cover-up has done greater harm than any affair would have. Mr. Trump asked Americans, not least his supporters, to believe his claims about the payments. They were false and conveniently so in putting the onus on attorney Michael Cohen. Now, as more of the story has emerged, he wants everyone to believe a new story that he could have told the first time."

Does Trump sound like Chicken Little, who cried, "the sky is falling" so many times that no one believed him when the sky actually did fall?

The Journal ends on this disturbing note: "Mr. Trump is compiling a record that increases the likelihood that few will believe him during a genuine crisis -- say, a dispute over speaking with special counsel Robert Mueller or a nuclear showdown with Kim Jong Un. Mr. Trump should worry that Americans will stop believing anything he says."

This is all so unnecessary. So many good things are happening. For the first time since December 2000, the U.S. unemployment rate has fallen below 4 percent, black and Hispanic unemployment rates hit record lows in April, there is rising consumer confidence, the forthcoming meeting with Kim Jong Un and a new Rasmussen Reports poll showing the president's approval rating at 51 percent.

Conservatives can argue with some credibility that the media and the rest of the establishment hate the president and want to see him impeached, but he is increasingly giving them the rope to hang him.

Will this matter to hardcore Trump supporters? And what about the evangelicals who so strongly supported -- and mostly continue to support -- the president? These were the ones who said character matters. I'm betting their hatred of Washington, the media and Democrats will remain virulent. How do I know this? Because whenever I have criticized them for their blanket pardon of anything and everything the president has done or remark that their support runs antithetical to their core religious beliefs they write to criticize me.

Will it make a difference in the coming midterm elections? It didn't in 2016, but this time liar-Hillary Clinton won't be on the ballot for conservatives to vote against. And Democrats, don't forget, thought they had that election in the bag for her, as they do this upcoming election cycle and in 2020.

For some, though, the exhaustion factor may be setting it. When Fox News and The Wall Street Journal effectively call out the president for lying to the American people, where do Trump supporters go for their red meat?

hanoi-John Kerry Has Become An Enemy of the State

{ restoreamericanglory.com } ~ According to a new Boston Globe article, former Secretary of State hanoi-John Kerry is busily engaging world leaders... including the foreign minister of Iran – in a campaign of shadow diplomacy aimed at keeping the nuclear agreement intact. Well, the real goal is the preservation of his and, by extension, liar-nObama’s political legacy, but that’s beside the point. The point is that in an era where political experts on the left  were crying out for Michael Flynn to be charged under the Logan Act for engaging in this exact kind of whisper diplomacy, hanoi-Kerry is being treated as the hero of the republic. Are we saying that hanoi-Kerry should be charged under that outdated law? Not necessarily. But it’s there for a reason. And the reason is that we don’t need America’s allies and enemies getting confused about who is representing the United States and who isn’t. hanoi-John Kerry is no longer secretary of state. hanoi-John Kerry is not a part of the Trump administration. hanoi-John Kerry no longer has a professional interest in keeping the Iran deal alive. He needs to sit down and shut up. Because the more he tries to undermine the official actions of the United States government, the more he risks becoming more than just an annoying relic of the liar-nObama years. He risks becoming an outright enemy of the state. This is not to be confused with, say, politicians like Bill De Blasio heading overseas to pretend that he’s an emissary on climate change. Yes, that’s bad enough, but everyone recognizes it for the farce that it is. And even if it wasn’t, as the mayor of New York he does at least have SOME limited authority to engage in climate change diplomacy. We’re not sure if it actually accomplishes anything or was even meant to, but it’s fine with us if he wants to gallivant around the world and make believe that he matters. It’s a little sad, but that’s nothing new for him....

Voices in Support of Trump's
CIA Director Nominee
by Elise Cooper

{ americanthinker.com } ~ Those against Gina Haspel being confirmed utter the word "torturer" yet refuse to say "Islamist jihadist." They have a problem with her involvement in the enhanced interrogation program, but are willing to overlook the fact that she has been acting director ever since Mike Pompeo has been confirmed as secretary of state. If she is so horrible, how could they let her be in that position even for a day? The answer, according to 9-11 families, is that she was the shield that kept Americans safe during the turbulent times right after September 11.

David Beamer lost his son, Todd, after United Flight 93 crashed into the Pennsylvania countryside. He expressed the sentiment of all the other 9-11 families interviewed, supporting Gina Haspel as CIA director. "She has given the prime years of her life in service to protect us. Her performance, intellect, dedication, and skills have been recognized in many assignments."

His answer to those who criticize the enhanced interrogation program: "Unlike my son, none of the enemy died during interrogation. The plans that they executed caused the death of many free and innocent people, just as they intended, as much collateral damage as possible that was their objective. If some uncomfortable questioning leads to uncovering further attacks and lives saved, so be it."

Gordon Haberman concurs: "Our beautiful, vibrant, loving Andrea was subjected to torture. She was alive after the building was hit and then brutalized in a desperate attempt to escape the inferno. She was then ripped apart as she died. It haunts me till this day. I only hope she was dead before being dismembered in this manner. In seventeen years, they have recovered and identified eleven pieces of her. Do I worry about how those who perpetrated this act were treated after being caught alive and are still alive? No."

All those interviewed cannot understand why senators are so concerned about Gina Haspel's role in the rendition, detention, and interrogation programs (RDI). The families insist that those like Haspel helped to keep other Americans from horrifically suffering what they had to endure.

Tim Sumner, a retired U.S. Army soldier, lost his brother-in-law, Lt. Joseph Leavery, a heroic New York firefighter. His feeling: "Gina Haspel has served our nation with honor for thirty years. The EIT Program saved American lives. She deserves our thanks rather than being smeared by those with short memories. Al-Qaeda ruthlessly slaughtered 3,000 men, women, and children on 9/11. The implementation of the Enhanced Interrogation Program was not Gina Haspel's decision; it was the president's decision after Haspel's seniors at the CIA recommended its approval. It had been cleared by the Office of Legal Counsel and briefed to majority and minority leaders of Congress, to include the ranking member of the House Intelligence Committee, Nancy Pulosi."

Debra Burlingame, the sister of the pilot whose plane was flown into the Pentagon, thinks Gina Haspel is being unfairly blamed by some senators – especially since the RDI program was widely accepted by those on the intelligence committees. Interestingly the criticism started when it was politically convenient. "Senator Jay Rockefeller, the Democratic chair of the Intelligence Committee, was read into the program and never objected. Many do not know that he supposedly – emphasis on the supposedly – wrote a letter showing he had misgivings about the program. How convenient that he dragged it out years later after it was acceptable to criticize the CIA. What a weasel thing to do. The senators then and now understand that the CIA had to get the intelligence quickly, especially after it was confirmed that a second wave of attacks was planned. The RDI program, of which Gina Haspel was a part, worked."

To prove her point, she emphasized that Americans should reference the 2009 federal trial of Ahmed Ghailani, a senior al-Qaeda figure who after capture was brought into the RDI program. At the beginning of the trial the Justice Department of A.G. scum-Eric Holder and President liar-nObama had to write a brief. In it was a defense of the RDI program. The language used included that the program saved lives and that actionable intelligence was obtained. This proves that Gina Haspel was on the right side – the side to save American lives.

She noted, "I am not speaking out for my brother. He is gone, and I will never get him back. I am doing it for my fellow American's brothers. This is about the future, protecting our country from people who are cunning, intelligent, patient, and relentless. I don't see how these current senators can look at their children and grandchildren and vote against her."

Alice Hoagland, who lost a son, Mark, on United Flight 93, wonders why some Americans seem "to favor terrorists over the victims of terror. Since I live in one of the most politically liberal areas of the United States, I have met quite a number of such Americans over these past sixteen years, some whom I once considered friends. Like most who lost loved ones on 9/11, I have endured castigation in print, on the air, and in face-to-face encounters from those who flatter themselves that they occupy the moral high ground. Rejection is the price we pay for holding views that conflict with those of the entrenched liberal majority."

If Gina Haspel, one of the most qualified and capable people ever nominated for CIA director, is not confirmed, it is because some senators are more concerned with their political aspirations than keeping Americans safe. Beamer expressed the sentiment of many: "it is likely that the hearings to consider Gina Haspel for this most strategic position will be marked by partisan attacks, dirt-digging, and grandstanding. Sad that while most can spell civility, few can practice it. Most of the critics have never been willing to be in harm's way, to serve and protect our way of life. Most would not agree to put 'their sacrifice where their mouth is.'"

Burlingame summarized it best when she told American Thinker, "Bipartisan leaders of the intelligence community as well as those currently working at the CIA describe her as being widely respected. All Americans should consider Haspel a hero whom we owe a tremendous debt of gratitude. If she is not confirmed, then no one should be confirmed."

{ rickwells.us } ~ National Security Adviser John Bolton joined Laura Ingraham to discuss the busy day at the White House... which included the announcement by President Trump that the United States would be exiting the Iran appeasement and empowerment deal negotiated by Hussein liar-nObama, Valerie Jarrett and hanoi-John Kerry. Ingraham plays clips of three prominent Democrats dismissing the deal back in 2015 when liar-nObama was busily attempting to peddle his wagonload of manure to the American people and Congress. After listening to them Bolton says, “Look, the fact is the deal has been flawed from the beginning, I think the President laid that case out in his statement today.” Bolton says, “He gave the Europeans and others a chance to fix it. It was not doable because the flaws go right to the foundations of the deal, so he did what he clearly advertised he was going to do as far back as the 2016 campaign, pulled the United States out of the deal. Why? Because it’s in our security interests to get out of this flawed deal.”...   https://rickwells.us/bolton-iran-deal-option/

{ nypost.com } ~ President Trump’s declaration Tuesday that he would exit the 2015 Iran nuclear deal was more than just a fulfillment of a campaign promise... it was a much-needed shift in US foreign policy. The message to the world: The era of appeasement is over. The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action was among the worst deals negotiated in modern times. In exchange for the suspension of America’s toughest economic sanctions, Iran needed only freeze its nuclear program for a limited amount of time — keeping its nuclear capabilities on standby while perfecting its missile arsenal, increasing support to terrorism and expanding its military footprint throughout the Middle East. By withdrawing from the agreement, Trump unshackled America’s most powerful economic weapons and restored US leverage to push back on the entire range of Iran’s malign activities. Trump must now implement a new strategy that forces Iran to withdraw from Syria and Yemen, verifiably and irreversibly dismantle its nuclear and missile programs, end its sponsorship of terrorism and improve its human-rights record...   https://nypost.com/2018/05/08/trump-now-needs-to-bring-irans-economy-to-its-knees/

{ jpost.com } ~ Israel is bracing for a barrage of missiles to be launched toward military positions along its northern front... from Syria by Shi’ite militias trained and funded by Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps. Iran is reportedly very determined to carry out an attack. Intelligence reports have indicated such an attack is in the advanced planning stages and might soon be executed as Iran vowed to do in retaliation for an alleged Israeli air strike against the T4 airbase near Homs used by the IRGC two months ago. Israel has allegedly uncovered involvement by Hezbollah commanders and senior operatives from Shi’ite militias in the planning of the retaliatory strike. It is believed these militias, along with experts from Hezbollah under the command of the IRGC’s Quds Force Commander Maj.-Gen. Qassem Soleimani, will launch precision-guided missiles or armed drones from a base in Syria...   https://www.jpost.com/Middle-East/Report-Iran-planning-to-launch-a-barrage-of-missiles-against-Israel-553644

{ dailycaller.com } ~ News of former Secretary of State hanoi-John Kerry’s alleged collusion with the Iranian government played a role in President Donald Trump’s decision... to scuttle the Iran deal, two White House sources with direct knowledge of the president’s thinking tell The Daily Caller. Trump announced he was pulling out of the deal Tuesday, just a few days after news broke that hanoi-Kerry had been parlaying with Iran in an attempt to keep the deal alive. A source inside the White House with knowledge of the decision process tells TheDC that the Iran deal was “done” when Trump found out about hanoi-Kerry’s lobbying behind the scenes. “Trump was headed that way but hanoi-Kerry just took away any of the teeth of the detractors,” the source said on background. “hanoi-Kerry’s bulls**t ultimately killed the deal.”...

by Pat Buchanan
{ townhall.com } ~ If Donald Trump does not wish to collaborate in the destruction of his presidency, he will refuse to be questioned by the FBI, or by a grand jury, or by Special Counsel Robert Mueller and his malevolent minions.

Should Mueller subpoena him, as he has threatened to do, Trump should ignore the subpoena, and frame it for viewing in Trump Tower.

If Mueller goes to the Supreme Court and wins an order for Trump to comply and testify to a grand jury, Trump should defy the court.

The only institution that is empowered to prosecute a president is Congress. If charges against Trump are to be brought, this is the arena, this is the forum, where the battle should be fought and the fate and future of the Trump presidency decided.

The goal of Mueller's prosecutors is to take down Trump on the cheap. If they can get him behind closed doors and make him respond in detail to questions -- to which they already know the answers -- any misstep by Trump could be converted into a perjury charge.

Trump has to score 100 on a test to which Mueller's team has all the answers in advance while Trump must rely upon memory.

Why take this risk?

By now, witnesses have testified in ways that contradict what Trump has said. This, plus Trump's impulsiveness, propensity to exaggerate, and often rash responses to hostile questions, would make him easy prey for the perjury traps prosecutors set up when they cannot convict their targets on the evidence.

Mueller and his team are the ones who need this interrogation.

For, after almost two years, their Russiagate investigation has produced no conclusive proof of the foundational charge -- that Trump's team colluded with Vladimir Putin's Russia to hack and thieve the emails of the liar-Clinton campaign and DNC.

Having failed, Mueller & Co. now seek to prove that, even if Trump did not collude with the Russians, he interfered with their investigation.

How did Trump obstruct justice?

Did he suggest that fired NSC Advisor Gen. Mike Flynn might get a pardon? What was his motive in firing FBI Director James Comey? Did Trump edit the Air Force One explanation of the meeting in June 2016 between his campaign officials and Russians? Did he pressure Attorney General Jeff Sessions to fire Mueller?

Mueller's problem: These questions and more have all been aired and argued endlessly in the public square. Yet no national consensus has formed that Trump committed an offense to justify his removal. Even Democrats are backing away from talk of impeachment.

Trump's lawyers should tell Mueller to wrap up his work, as Trump will not be testifying, no matter what subpoena he draws up, or what the courts say he must do. And if Congress threatens impeachment for defying a court order, Trump should tell them: Impeach me and be damned.

Will a new Congress impeach and convict an elected president?

An impeachment battle would become a titanic struggle between a capital that detests Trump and a vast slice of Middle America that voted to repudiate that capital's elite, trusts Trump, and will stand by him to the end.

And in any impeachment debate before Congress and the cameras of the world, not one but two narratives will be heard.

The first is that Trump colluded with the Russians to defeatliar-Hillary Clinton and then sought to obstruct an investigation of his collusion.

The second is the story of how an FBI cabal went into the tank on an investigation of liar-Clinton to save her campaign. Then it used the product of a liar-Clinton-DNC dirt-diving operation, created by a British spy with Russian contacts, to attempt to destroy the Trump candidacy. Now, failing that, it's looking to overthrow the elected president of the United States.

In short, the second narrative is that the "deep state" and its media auxiliaries are colluding to overturn the results of the 2016 election.

Unlike Watergate, with Russiagate, the investigators will be on trial as well.

Trump needs to shift the struggle out of the legal arena, where Mueller and his men have superior weapons, and into the political arena, where he can bring his populous forces to bear in the decision as to his fate.

This is the terrain on which Trump can win -- an us-vs-them fight, before Congress and country, where not only the alleged crimes of Trump are aired but also the actual crimes committed to destroy him and to overturn his victory.

Trump is a nationalist who puts America first both in trade and securing her frontiers against an historic invasion from the South. If he is overthrown, and the agenda for which America voted is trashed as well, it may be Middle America in the streets this time.

{ spectator.org } ~ Once a lofty concept, the term social justice has been hijacked and exploited by the political Left to radically transform America... and bully Americans into forfeiting many basic rights in deference to the Left’s agenda. Intoning social justice has proven to be a sure-proof formula for silencing average Americans, thereby providing the Left with endless societal victories. After all, who wants to be accused of standing in the way of social justice? Liberal social justice purveyors view themselves as the country’s moral authority, best fit to decide the allowable extent of our freedom of speech and religion, and believe only they care about social justice and equity. To date, most liberal assumptions and definitions of social justice have been automatically accepted. For example, the term has been used successfully by the Left for the last half century to validate and implement the welfare state. But what is being advocated is not social justice but socialism, and in other cases a push for radical cultural Marxism...

Congressman Ron DeSantis (R-FL) didn’t find Rosenstein’s comments helpful, and he’s starting to wonder if the Assistant Attorney General actually understands the Constitution that he has been charged to defend? DeSantis argues that Rosenstein has “botched” the investigation, and that Mueller doesn’t seem to have any reason to need to speak with President Trump because he hasn’t found any evidence that any crime or malfeasance was committed...

by David Limbaugh
{ townhall.com } ~ Michelle Wolf is not the first so-called comic to maliciously insult conservatives and Republicans at a White House Correspondents' Association dinner, but she was intentionally mean-spirited, and even after the blowback, she's unrepentant.

Members of the liberal mainstream media have expressed disapproval over some of Wolf's comments, saying she went too far. But I'm not buying it. This is what passes as liberal humor these days. Just watch Jimmy Kimmel, Bill Maher and Stephen Colbert and tell me their humor is less malevolent.

But hold on, you say. There's a difference between late-night TV and a formal dinner pregnant with self-important dignitaries of the Washington press corps. Perhaps, but the point is there is a receptive constituency for this kind of bile. The organization had to have known what to expect from Wolf, and she admits she was just being herself that night. "If you've seen any of my comedy, you know that I don't -- I'm not nice," said Wolf. "I don't pull punches. I'm not afraid to talk about things."

Revealingly, comedian Tina Fey said, "When you invite a comedian into that place, where that tone is set, they're going to give it to you straight, and I think that's pretty much what she did." Whoa! In one line, Fey defends Wolf's nastiness, confirms that the association should have known what it was getting with her and fixes her stamp of approval on Wolf's calling White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders a liar.

The unapologetic Wolf, however, denies she was ridiculing Sanders' looks. But in her indignant denial, she admitted something just as damning: "I think if you listen to the joke, you'll understand that it's about the fact that she lies, and if it's taken another way, I think you should go back and listen to it again."

Oh, OK, Michelle. You are not a bad guy after all. You only vaguely hinted at Sanders' appearance, but you admittedly called her a liar outright -- right to her face in front of a large crowd present in the room and an exponentially larger one watching on television. Now that's virtuous. Bless you, you crusader for truth and all that is good and decent.

It is shocking that anyone would think her disparaging slander was funny. But it is not surprising that she would assume that calling Sanders a liar would be well-received or socially acceptable. This is the way far too many leftists think these days. How else do you explain the popularity of their comedians who routinely traffic in this bilge?

Indeed, no one really cares what Wolf thinks. If she had made these remarks in a smoky nightclub, who would know or care? It's what it says about the left that makes it newsworthy.

Based on my own interactions with people of this mindset, I think many of them are so consumed with their contempt for conservatives -- and especially President Donald Trump -- they believe that almost anything goes if it advances the cause of denigrating them.

Their thinking seems to be that conservatives and Trump are so evil that ordinary rules of decorum can be suspended to speak "truth to power" -- as if they're not themselves powerful and as if they are speaking truth. See Tina Fey's comments, above. It's the same thought process driving their rationalization that free speech can be denied to conservatives who express ideas they find repugnant. With every passing year, leftists gain more recruits to serve alongside them as mini-ministers of truth. The level of self-deceit they possess that twists their minds and darkens their sensitivities is alarming, and it's getting worse.

I assume that many of you will think I am hyperventilating or exaggerating -- blowing this way out of proportion and making unwarranted generalities.

I understand you believe that, but I've witnessed this growing hostility on the left for years, which leads even mainstream liberals to reflexively brand conservatives as racists, sexists and homophobes simply by virtue of their conservatism. You can't oppose illegal immigration or criticize Barack liar-nObama on policy without being called a racist. The smear has worked, which I dare say is why such a disproportionate percentage of minorities vote Democratic when Republican policies benefit them more -- and why Democrats are losing their minds over Kanye West's praise of Trump and his assertion that African-Americans should be free to think for themselves and not be pressured into identity groupthink.

I could cite examples all day of liberals condemning conservatives as evil because of their political views and consequently justifying their mistreatment. Jon Favreau, a former speechwriter for liar-nObama, snidely defended Wolf's remarks, mocking complaints about her tone and civility. He was not alone; all kinds of leftist figures defended Wolf, as you can verify with a quick Google search.

Actor jerk-Robert De Niro doubled down on Wolf's invective, not only defending her but also castigating the White House Correspondents' Association for distancing itself from her. "Shame on them! Stand up and strap on your balls and deal," said jerk-De Niro. jerk-De Niro justified Wolf's vitriol because Trump and Sanders and company are "liars and bullies." What did I tell you? Anything goes as long as you're attacking evil conservatives.

ABC late-night host Jimmy Kimmel, hardly an outlier on the left, took to Twitter to chide the media for not defending Wolf, who "was FUNNY."

Wolf put the elite leftist media in a box when she so openly attacked a woman in public while they were conspicuously present, but this is how far too many of them think, and this is why they invited her to the event and why they invited the equally offensive Wanda Sykes and Stephen Colbert in the past. Please spare us the feigned disapproval, guys. This is what you do.

{ rickwells.us } ~ If Democrats are this stupid, which many of them are... they should be stripped of their citizenship and returned to that status as 3/5 of a person or even less, and their right to vote taken away. They’re too stupid and support their own eradication. That would be bad enough but they are determined to include the rest of America with them. We can’t let that happen. They already made the point that they are in favor of the destruction of America by electing an Islamic jihadist as their deputy national committee chairman. Now that same America-hater has been videotaped campaigning in a shirt that says in a foreign language, Spanish, the language of the invasion, that he is opposed to America having borders. The enemy of the state, Rep scum-Keith Ellison (D-MN), was seen sporting a t-shirt in a local May Day Parade, the traditional communist holiday, that read “Yo no creo en fronteras.” In the language of the United States, English, that translates into “I don’t believe in borders.” Is it any wonder patriots in America can’t get defense of our nation, a border wall, approved by a turncoat Congress?...   https://rickwells.us/dnc-keith-ellison-borders/.

{ breitbart.com } ~ Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) announced on Friday that he will vote against CIA Director Mike Pompeo’s nomination to become secretary of state because of Pompeo’s beliefs on marriage and sexuality... beliefs consistent with Pompeo’s Christian faith. Conservative leaders are now denouncing Booker’s vote as a violation of the Constitution’s Religious Test Clause. Booker sharply questioned Pompeo on Thursday during the nominee’s confirmation hearing before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, referring to words Pompeo spoke at a church in his district when the current director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) was still serving in the U.S. House of Representatives. Pompeo has also supported efforts to defend marriage as the union between one man and one woman. Those beliefs are consistent with mainstream Christian beliefs... Nothing will happen to the scum.

{ peggynoonan.com } ~ Let’s ease in softly on a pretty day.

Spring came to New York this week after a month of gloomy cold and drizzle. The sun was out. Monday afternoon just before dusk there was a bird outside my window, all by itself and singing so loudly—byeet-byeet-chur-chur-chur. Over and over as if it had just discovered its voice. I was emailing with a friend, your basic hard-bitten journalist, and told him what I was hearing—it sounded like the beginning of the world. He wrote back not with irony but with the information that a band of baby rabbits had just taken over his garden and were out there hopping and bopping: “They are so excited to be on earth.” This struck me as the most important news of the day.

My bird sang on a few minutes and then flew away, but it made me think, for the first time in years, of William Carlos Williams of 9 Ridge Road in Rutherford, N.J., and his famous poem from his 1923 collection, “Spring and All”:

so much depends
upon

a red wheel
barrow

glazed with rain
water

beside the white
chickens

No one is sure what it means, though a poem doesn’t have to mean. To me it’s about how so much depends on reality—on what is, on the suddenly seen tenderness of what is, and how it can catch you unaware.

So now to what I’ve been thinking about, which is a question: What is required of us at this point in history? What is required of those of us who aren’t making history but observing it, watching with concern or alarm? There’s a sense now of not getting the news but listening for what shoe just dropped.

Thursday morning there was the president’s latest unhingement, in a phone interview on “Fox & Friends.” He was agitated; he spoke of witch hunts, monsters, fakes, phonies and killers. They are “trying to destroy” his doctor, who withdrew his nomination as secretary of veterans affairs. James Comey is “a leaker and he is a liar.” “There is no collusion with me and the Russians.” “Fake news CNN actually gave the questions to the debate.” “They have a witch hunt against the president of the United States.” “It is a horrible thing that is going on, a horrible thing. Yet I have accomplished, with all of this going on, more than any president in the first year in our history. And everybody—even the enemies and haters admit that.” He’s disappointed in his Justice Department. The “corruption at the top of the FBI, it’s a disgrace.” Michael Cohen represented him “with this crazy Stormy Daniels deal.” “But I’m not involved, and I’m not involved—I’ve been told I’m not involved.” He gets along with Kanye West. “I get along with a lot of people frankly.” “CBS and NBC, ABC—they’re all fake news.” They tried to suppress the Trump vote, so that his supporters on Election Day would say, “So let’s go to a movie, darling, and we’ll come home and watch Donald lose.” “Let me tell you the nuclear war would have happened if you had weak people.” “I don’t watch NBC anymore; they’re as bad as CNN. I don’t—by the way I made them a fortune with ‘The Apprentice.’ ”

You could call the interview far-ranging or scattered, you could call it typically colorful or really nuts, but you couldn’t hear it without feeling more disquiet and unease. And that was just Thursday’s installment of “As the Trump Turns.”

So what is required of us at this roiling time? What are some behavioral rules for the road? The political turbulence we’re experiencing isn’t going to go away, and what’s important at such a time is to absorb the daily shocks, think long-term, speak your mind, share your heart, and do your best.

Beyond that, I think the great requirement of this moment, in the second year of the Trump era, is: Don’t lose your composure. Don’t let it rob you of your peace. Maintain your poise. Don’t let the history around you destabilize you. Don’t become sour. Keep on your game, maintain your own standards. There are people on television who level the gravest charges against the administration. But they don’t look sad, they have a look of cackling glee. History isn’t unfolding for your amusement. If it’s such a tragedy, you could now and then look stricken.

It would be good for people to dig deep. Everything in our national political life is in flux. Don’t just oppose. Take time to look at why you stand where you stand. Why are you a Democrat? What truths, goals, realities of that party deserve your loyalty? Republicans, the same.

And we should stick to our knitting. Help your country in every way you can within your ken. National figures come and go, but local realities sink in and spread; families fail or flourish. We are a great nation and an earnest people. We forget this, especially in cynical times, but we are.

Many of our political figures are not enjoying their spring.

Republicans on the Hill are bracing for a blue wave. Some have gotten out of the way, some have hunkered down.

Mr. Trump is their problem. Whatever magic he has is not transferable. The base continues to shift under their feet.

Democrats, too, are antsy. Their party continues to split, and they don’t know where the safe area is between the rising left and its demands, and the old liar-Clintonian moderation and its rewards.

What is required of Republican politicians who wish to survive?

To succeed in a dramatic era, a politician needs a combination of caution and imagination. Caution—a knowledge of human nature, an understanding of coalitions, and an admission that history laughs. Imagination—the ability to ascertain the lay of the land and smoke out possibilities, even find room for compromise, knowing history sometimes bows. This involves the ability to make distinctions. Being imaginative doesn’t mean being unrealistic, and caution isn’t cowardice. To be imaginative is to be open and intuitive as—yes—an artist, not like some gerbil munching on numbers with little pink hands.

You can’t allow yourself to be reduced to just repeating things that were revolutionary 40 or 50 years ago but no longer seem fully pertinent to the country we’re in, or its circumstances.

You have to be sensitive to cultural vibrations. Republican politicians treat social issues as something to be spoken of now and then, mostly when the public brings them up—in part because such issues divide, in part because they don’t know how to speak of them. They’re not philosopher kings. But a politician with a sense of how people are thinking would observe that when the conversation turns to marriage and family formation, the best commercial for both in the past decade was the recent celebration of the life of Barbara Bush. A marriage of 73 years, the idea of marriage as both love affair and partnership, was burnished and made new for everyone who passed a screen. What was being celebrated was the pleasure and sacrifice that go into building something that endures.

And you have to know what time it is. Life moves, things change.

So much depends on reality, on what is. All of politics does.

{ rickwells.us } ~ Sean Hannity asks Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes to explain the slow-walking of information... the use of “redactions in the name of national security that turn out not to be true,” and how DOJ “has been unwilling to answer Congress’ subpoena and how that is the constitutional role of Congress.” That’s a lot of explaining, more, says Nunes, than the total time remaining on their program permits. He picks a couple of recent points, the fact that it took 6 weeks for redactions that kept secret the fact that James Comey is lying about whether the FBI agents who interviewed Michael Flynn thought he was lying. There are multiple instances involving the release of information about the conduct of Fusion GPS. Nunes reveals that they believe the FBI and DOJ actually knew that the liar-Clinton campaign and the DNC paid for the Steele dossier from the beginning. They were directly involved with Fusion GPS through Bruce Ohr and his wife so it’s unimaginable that they did not...   https://rickwells.us/nunes-sessions-stop-digging/.

{ gatestoneinstitute.org } ~ Iran and Hezbollah have been operating in Latin America since the 1980s, effectively undisturbed... During this time, Iran and its proxy, the terrorist organization Hezbollah, have been Islamizing Latin America, seemingly to create a forward base of operations for the Islamic Republic in the backyard of the United States. No Latin American country has designated Hezbollah a terrorist organization: Hezbollah can operate with relative impunity there. In April 2017, a Hezbollah operative, Mohamad Hamdar, arrested in Peru, was acquitted of all terrorism-related charges. The Peruvian court found that Hamdar's role within Hezbollah was in itself insufficient to consider him a terrorist. This legal vacuum regarding Hezbollah might also be why Islamic terrorism, drug-trafficking and organized crime in the region is frequently underestimated. According to testimony at a United States House of Representatives panel hearing on Iran's global terrorism network on April 17, 2018, Iran and Hezbollah have converted and radicalized thousands of Latin Americans to Shia Islam...   https://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/12268/iran-latin-america

{ washingtonexaminer.com } ~ It is now nearly certain that President Trump is going to walk away from his predecessor’s nuclear deal with Iran... the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action. The president in his announcement Tuesday may provide a bit of wiggle room by slowing the reinstitution of sanctions lifted by the accord in the hope that the Europeans will eventually join the United States in demanding tougher restrictions on the regime. But the effect most likely will be the same: The deal is dead. Washington will soon be confronted with the thorny issue of what the president, Europeans, Russians, Chinese, and, last but not least, Iranians will do in response. The accord’s denouement could bring an enormous trans-Atlantic rift, preventive military strikes against the Islamic Republic’s nuclear sites, Iranian terrorism against U.S. troops and civilians, Russian arms deliveries to Tehran, and even a bipartisan congressional revolt against the president. That probably isn’t where this is going, but the possibility remains that the White House could poorly handle its escape from a deeply flawed arms-control agreement, leaving the United States in a worse position than where it was with the JCPOA...   https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/policy/defense-national-security/times-up-for-iran-deal

Mueller Has Three Disturbing Conflicts of Interest

{ restoreamericanglory.com } ~ Former CBS reporter Sharyl Attkisson has made a name for herself as one of the few journalists in the mainstream media who woke up... took a look behind the curtain, and realized she was working for people who wanted to obscure the truth as much as they wanted to expose it. After realizing that her bosses at CBS would kill any story that might put the liar-nObama administration in a bad light, she lit out for the territories and has been a beacon for truth in reporting ever since. As such, when she writes an op-ed about the current state of politics, anyone interested in what’s really going on would be wise to pay close attention. This week, Attkisson, having perused the list of questions published by The New York Times that Robert Mueller wants to ask President Donald Trump, she determined that the special counsel is laboring under “at least three serious conflicts of interest.” Conflict #1: Mueller is investigating rumors of his own firing. “Think of it this way: You’re the boss at a company and decide to fire an important manager,” Atkisson writes. “Maybe you believe he acted improperly, conspired against you, or is simply not the right man for the job. He’s unhappy you fired him. Now imagine the fired employee — or his good friend and colleague — is awarded the power to judge and assess your motives regarding that firing and other matters. Would it be fair to have the very people who feel wronged be put in charge of determining your fate?”....

The Best And The Worst
by Tom McLaughlin

The-Second-Coming-Analysis-Image.jpg

{ tommclaughlin.blogspot.com } ~ Perhaps the most-quoted poem in the English language is “The Second Coming” by William Butler Yeats. For nearly a century different writers have cited one or more of its 22 lines written ninety-nine years ago which begins with:

Turning and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;

quote-out-of-ireland-have-we-come-great-hatred-little-room-maimed-us-at-the-start-i-carry-from-my-william-butler-yeats-203016.jpg

The second and third lines resonate most for me:

Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,

tumblr_lgd7ccizxu1qzc9qxo1_500_large.jpg
Maybe it was world-wide demonstrations last week on Mayday, which has for more than a century been a day for the left to rally against capitalism. Masked, black-clad, anarchist ANTIFA demonstrators rioted once again in Europe, Canada, and America. In Paris where they burned cars and businesses and clashed with police and over 200 masked thugs were arrested. The left and the right in America are increasingly polarized since the 2016 election prompting renewed fears that maybe “the centre cannot hold” here.
IWWdrawing.smlr.gif.pagespeed.ce.tJRGHqhX7k.gif
Begun by the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW) sometime in the 1880s, Mayday demonstrations often turned into riots and became a worldwide phenomenon after the Bolshevik Revolution in 1917. That event, among others, shook Yeats and catalyzed his famous poem. Others included the “Great War,” or what we now call World War I, and Ireland’s “Easter Rebellion” which, after many unsuccessful attempts to gain Irish independence from Great Britain, did eventually result in liberating most of the island, but only after a long, brutal struggle.
19302572.jpg
Despite the religious tone implied by the poem’s title, Yeats was for the most part agnostic. Though born into what Irish historians call the wealthy “Protestant Ascendancy” in 1865, Christianity meant little to Yeats. He dabbled in mysticism and the occult and worked against the influence of Catholic Church in his native Ireland.
slide_3.jpg
Despite the overwhelming prevalence of Catholic Irish peasantry in the independence movement, Yeats became a leader of sorts and a senator in the new Irish government around the time he won the Nobel Prize for literature. He wrote The Second Coming in 1919 when it seemed, as he described in the next four lines:

The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned:
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.

maxresdefault-1.jpg
Yeats grew up comfortably and could dabble in poetry without worrying about supporting himself, but he could see that, were anarchists to topple everything in their passionate intensity and things really did fall apart, his family money and his leisurely life could disappear also. But it didn’t; the centre held until his death in January, 1939, just before the blood-dimmed tide was loosed again across Europe and the world.
blood-dimmed-tide2.jpg
Literary analysts claim Yeats was referring to clergy when he claimed: “The best lack all conviction,” as if they didn’t really believe what they preached, “while the worst” — anarchists, socialists, and Bolsheviks — looked as if they might well take over western civilization.
The-Celt.jpg
Western pundits today call Europe “post Christian” as churches are abandoned across the continent — or converted into mosques for another religion “full of passionate intensity.” To end the poem, Yeats seems to describe the Sphinx:

A shape with lion body and the head of a man,
A gaze blank and pitiless as the sun,
Is moving its slow thighs, while all about it

An-Opportunity-for-experiencing-the-Great-Sphinx-of-Giza-with-the-help-of-Augmented-Reality-.jpg
Finally, he asks:

And what rough beast, its hour come round at last,
Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?
What rough beast, its hour come round at last,
Slouches toward Bethlehem to be born?

hqdefault.jpg
Judge Robert Bork edited the last line as title for his 1998 book Slouching Toward Gomorrah which I’ve been reading for the past three months. At the same time I was reading Jordan Peterson’s 2018 book 12 Rules For Life; An Antidote for Chaos which has been a bestseller across the English-speaking world. Both authors analyze Yeats’ poem at some length.
slouching-towards-gomorrah.jpg
The subtitle for Bork’s book is: Modern liberalism and American Decline. It’s more direct and hard-hitting than Peterson’s. Writing twenty years apart, both men perceived that: “The best lack all conviction, while the worst are full of passionate intensity.” Bork’s nomination to the US Supreme Court was famously sabotaged with passionate intensity by leftist Democrats including Joe Biden and Ted Kennedy.
Today Peterson is pursued wherever he speaks by passionate (some would say crazy) leftists and anarchists who literally pound on the windows and doors outside venues to which he’s invited — and shout him down before being removed from the halls.

Some claim President Trump caused the increased polarization in today’s America. Others claim his victory was a result of pre-existing polarization. Trump’s blunt talk and scrappy style endear him to his base and enrage his opposition, but which side is the best and which is the worst depends on your perspective.

In the last several hours, serious allegations, which I strongly contest, have been made against me. { lidblog.com } ~ Dinesh D’Souza is justifiably upset... On Saturday, the New York Post reported that Trump hater Rosie O’Donnell made illegally over-sized campaign donations to at least five Democratic federal candidates, using five different addresses and four names. He went over with one candidate and used his real name and he was incarcerated for eight months. O’Donnell donated $2,950 to California Rep. scum-Adam Schiff, a 17-year veteran of the House, for his primary, according to his campaign filings. His campaign didn’t return messages seeking comment. Lauren Underwood, an Illinois congressional candidate, reported $4,200 from O’Donnell for her primary, filings show. Her campaign didn’t return a message. And Omar Vaid, a little-known congressional candidate in Staten Island and Brooklyn, reported $3,450 in primary donations from O’Donnell, filings show. { theconservativetreehouse.com } ~ Throughout 2015, and until April 28th, 2016, there were unknown “outside government” contractors with access to the FBI/NSA database... Those outside government agents were conducting unlawful searches of the FISA database. The 99-page FISA Court opinion by presiding justice Rosemary Collyer proves this with absolute certainty. CTH has long suspected those outside agents were doing political opposition research; and were allowed to do so as part of the political misuse of the intelligence apparatus. Pg 83. “FBI gave raw Section 702–acquired information to a private entity that was not a federal agency and whose personnel were not sufficiently supervised by a federal agency for compliance minimization procedures.” With the revelation of Daniel Richman, a close friend of James Comey, being an “special access employee” of the FBI, hired by Comey, CTH anticipates Richman will be discovered as one of those previously described “outside government” unpaid contractors with access to the FISA database. The new information of Richman, along with what we know of Fusion-GPS, is an example of the hidden connective tissue between the Lawfare group (outside government) and the “small group” of DOJ and FBI officials inside government....

Reports emerged late Friday indicating hanoi-Kerry has been holding secret talks with top Iranian officials and others in a last minute bid to preserve the liar-nObama administration's chief foreign policy legacy ahead of a May 12 deadline when President Donald Trump is expected to scrap the deal. Trump said on Monday afternoon that he would announce his decision on the deal on Tuesday. Destroying America, One Miseducated Student After Another

If the trend holds steady, the annualized rate could top 100,000%. The same day, liar-Hillary Clinton opined that being a capitalist hurt her election chances because “41 percent of Democrats are socialists or self-described socialists.” The day before that, the National Assessment of Educational Progress’s (NAEP) 2017 test results released by the U.S. Department of Education revealed that 65% of eighth graders lacked proficiency in reading and 67% lacked proficiency in math. In short, a corrupt public school system indoctrinates semi-literate cannon fodder for a Democrat Party that now clamors for the same socialism devastating Venezuela.

How corrupt is the current system? “The atrocious NAEP performance is only a fraction of the bad news,” explains columnist Walter Williams. “Nationally, our high school graduation rate is over 80 percent. That means high school diplomas, which attest that these students can read and compute at a 12th-grade level, are conferred when 63 percent are not proficient in reading and 75 percent are not proficient in math. For blacks, the news is worse. Roughly 75 percent of black students received high school diplomas attesting that they could read and compute at the 12th-grade level. However, 83 percent could not read at that level, and 93 percent could not do math at that level.”
Such machinations are nothing less than outright fraud, which continues in large part because of collective bargaining.
Collective bargaining has recently manifested itself a series of teachers’ strikes that began in West Virginia on Feb. 22, and spread to Kentucky, Oklahoma, Arizona and Colorado. What are these strikes about? With the exception of Kentucky, where the primary issue was pension reform, they were about teacher pay. To be fair, teachers in Arizona, West Virginia and Oklahoma have  salaries that rank near the bottom nationally, even when cost of living is factored into the equation. Yet many of those same teachers get pension benefits that dwarf comparative private-sector benefits, and many get retiree health coverage that has become virtually nonexistent in the private sector.
As American Enterprise Institute education expert Frederick Hess explains, the mediawould like to blame “stingy taxpayers” for stagnant teacher pay. Yet he notes per-pupil spending actually grew by 27% between 1992 and 2014. “Between 2003 and 2014, even as teacher salaries declined, per-teacher average benefits spending increased from $14,000 to $21,000 — much of which goes to paying down pension debt rather than benefits for current teachers,” Hess reveals. On top of that, there’s been a substantial increase in the number of non-instructional staff precipitating “top-heavy bureaucracies that add nothing to students’ learning, but do add to union membership rolls and make teachers’ jobs easier,” as Investor’s Business Daily puts it.
They also add to the inconvenient reality that funding the current system has pushed many states to the brink of insolvency.
Moreover, while pay raises may be the teachers’ impetus for striking, their union leaders have other ideas in mind. “What do all of these strikes and protests have in common?” asks columnist Kevin Boyd. “They are taking place in states where Democrats are either trying to make gains or consolidate their power in this fall’s elections.”
Columnist Jenni White takes this assertion further, insisting school officials used the strikes as a pretext for promoting the Democrat agenda. One parent reported that her child was required to write a paper on her feelings about the walk-out, and another student told her mother that teachers were offering pupils extra credit if they attended a student rally in support of the teacher strike.
And then there’s American Federation of Teachers (AFT) President Randi Weingarten. Last month, Weingarten made a phone call during a train ride to New York. Unfortunately for her, she was overheard plotting a teachers’ strike in Puerto Rico.
Why? Because Gov. Ricardo Rosselló signed legislation aimed at increasing the number of charter schools and voucher programs that pose the greatest threat to union hegemony. “We never use the word strike,” Weingarten said. “We are a human shield for the kids … teachers are doing this in the stead of parents and kids.” Weingarten also referenced the strikes in Oklahoma and West Virginia, saying the union’s goal should be “cloaking” their efforts. “Let everyone call in for a personal day so they can’t open schools,” she said. “Let them call in for a sick day. They’re sick to death about the schools. They’re so anxiety ridden about the schools.
When she realized she’d been outed Weingarten remained defiant, insisting support for school choice and vouchers was tantamount to “feeding Wall Street vultures,” and a “perversion of priorities.
Whose priorities? Charts of 2017’s eighth grade reading and math proficiency rankings in 27 large urban districts published by the DOE reveal the most successful districts sport a 41%, proficiency rate in math, and a 36% proficiency rate in reading.
In a better nation, “success” rates that condemn six in 10 children to compromised futures would be considered appalling. In this one, they are union priorities. And since Democrats are more than willing to march in lockstep with those priorities, it should surprise no one that the worst performing districts are all Democrat strongholds.
“Teachers’ unions have immense political clout, and can demonize anyone who disagrees with their agenda,” Investor’s Business Daily explains. “They’ve been tremendously successful, becoming one of largest contributors to Democratic and left-wing political candidates to get their generally hard-left union agenda past local legislatures and through our nation’s Congress.”
OpenSecrets.org, a website dedicated to tracking campaign contributions, translates that clout into monetary terms revealing that from 2004 to 2016 political donations by teachers’ unions “grew from $4.3 million to more than $32 million — an all-time high.”
Such clout has real-world consequences. A 2017 Investor’s Business Daily editorial asks if we’re becoming “too ignorant” to save our constitutional republic. A Rasmussen survey released April 30 suggests a highly disturbing answer: 46% of Americans favor government-guaranteed jobs for all.
In 2001, Venezuela was the richest county in Latin America. Seventeen years later, the nation that embraced “21st Century Socialism” stands on the brink of total collapse. The Democrat Party and its unionist education allies, “socialists or self-described socialists” asliar-Hillary Clinton describes them, endeavor to put America on a similar path to self-destruction.
Every political war currently occurring in this nation is secondary to this one. Yet it remains the only one where only one side is doing the fighting.
If this dynamic remains unchanged, American exceptionalism will cease to exist — one mis-educated student after another.   ~The Patriot Pos

{ rickwells.us } ~ Rep Ron DeSantis agrees with Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes that it is time for House Republicans... to hold the obstructionist AG Jeff Sessions in contempt for his continued stonewalling in order to protect the guilty of his own departments, DOJ and FBI, as well as the State Department, some Intelligence employees and much of the liar-nObama regime.  DeSantis says Sessions and his DOJ and FBI “have shown nothing but contempt for us in our oversight prerogatives, which really is getting the American people the truth, as we’re elected by the people. So if they’re going to show us this level of contempt, we should hold them in contempt. And  unless you’re willing to attach a sanction to non-compliance, you will continue to play this song and dance over and over again.” He says, “I think Chairman Nunes is exactly right. He’s really one of the few chairman hear that Trey Gowdy, Bob Goodlatte, Chuck Grassley, Richard Burr? who are actually putting his foot down and saying this is enough. So let’s set that contempt hearing. And here’s the thing, Lou, if you do that and show you’re willing to do it, I think they end up producing the documents, because he wouldn’t want to go through that.”...

{ spectator.org } ~ This column has, to date, not analyzed the manifest problems with Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation... of President Trump for two reasons. First, because it fell outside my national security/foreign policy strike zone. Second, because many others — especially my friend Andy McCarthy of National Review Online  and Kim Strassel of the Wall Street Journal — have done an excellent job of performing that task, I could not see how I could add value to what has been done. Now, because of the passage of time and the occurrence of events, the first reason for my forbearance is no longer true, which leads me to believe that the second is undermined too greatly. For the same reasons, it is necessary to conclude that Mueller’s investigation has to be brought to an end. The Mueller investigation has gone on so long and is absorbing so much of the president’s time and attention that it is creating a deleterious effect on national security. One-time Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort has been indicted in two different federal courts on separate charges. Manafort, supposedly a cooperating witness in Mueller’s investigation, suffered a pre-dawn raid and search of his home on Mueller’s orders, a harsh tactic normally reserved for serial killers, drug traffickers and mafia dons who might destroy evidence...  https://spectator.org/time-to-shut-mueller-down/?utm_source=American+Spectator+Emails&utm_campaign=07787ae424-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2018_05_07&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_797a38d487-07787ae424-104608113

Judge Smacks Down Mueller's 'Unfettered Power'

Ellis blasted Robert Mueller’s special investigation during a Friday hearing in its case against President Donald Trump’s former campaign manager, Paul Manafort. Ellis, a Ronald Reagan appointee, took Mueller team lawyer Michael Dreeben to task for prosecutorial overreach, lecturing, “If I look at the indictment [against Manafort], none of that information has anything to do with links or coordination between the Russian government and individuals associated with the campaign of Donald Trump. So I don’t see what relation this indictment has with anything the special prosecutor is authorized to investigate.”

Manafort was indicted by the Mueller investigation on 18 counts of tax- and bank-fraud-related changes, none of which are directly tied to any Trump/Russia collusion conspiracy. Ellis made it clear that he saw through the special prosecution’s ruse, asserting that the charges raised against Manafort were obviously intended as a means “to exert leverage on a defendant so that the defendant will turn and provide information on what is really the focus of the special prosecutor.
Dreeben insisted that the charges against Manafort were within Team Mueller’s “investigatory scope.” Ellis merely scoffed, however, firing back, “My question to you was, how does bank fraud and these other things that go back to 2005, 2007 — how does that have anything to do with links and/or coordination between the Russian government and individuals associated with the campaign of Trump?” In reply, Dreeben once again referenced the scope of investigation granted by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein: “We are not limited in our prosecution authority to crimes that would fit within the precise description that was issued in this public order.” Ellis retorted, “I have that right here, and I’m glad you raised it because 75% of it is blocked out, redacted. Why don’t I have a full copy of it?
Dreeben said that the judge only needed to see the scope of Rosenstein’s memo that was pertinent to Manafort. But Ellis rejected that answer and accused the special prosecution of seeking “unfettered power” in a quest to target Trump: “You don’t really care about Mr. Manafort’s bank fraud. You really care about what information Mr. Manafort can give you that would reflect on Mr. Trump or lead to his prosecution or impeachment or whatever. That’s what you’re really interested in.” Bingo. Ellis then ordered Dreeben to return in two weeks with an unredacted Rosenstein memo or provide a better explanation of why not.
If the judge throws out the charges against Manafort, it would throw a major wrench into Mueller’s efforts to build a collusion case against Trump. It already shines the spotlight on the Justice Department’s concealment practices that have been justified as necessary in order to protect national security and ongoing investigations. However, all the recent unredacted documents have shown an agency with leadership keen on protecting themselves from public scrutiny rather than any actual national security issues. It will be interesting to see if Mueller’s team meets the demands of Judge Ellis, who very effectively called out this charade for what it is.

{ rickwells.us } ~ Mark Levin invited Joe diGenova and Dan Bongino to discuss the COUP against President Trump... being run by the globalist swamp creatures in DC on his Sunday program, Life, Liberty and Levin. Levin first brought up the issue of whether or not, and the determinations by the Justice Department’s own Office of Legal Counsel, a sitting President can be indicted. Levin says the DOJ says they cannot, asking why, then, is Mueller being allowed to continue and supported in his targeting of Trump? DiGenova notes that the Mueller “investigation” is completely illegitimate, that the Constitution vests all executive power in the executive branch, no crime has been asserted as having been committed by Rosenstein in appointing Mueller, how can he constitutionally investigate “no crime?”...

{ gatestoneinstitute.org } ~ The Kurds have a proverb: "We have no friends but the mountains"... In Afrin, however, even the mountains could not protect them from the Turkish warplanes and the Islamist militias allied with Ankara. Although the videos of terrifying executions are certainly not new in the tragic war of Syria, in this instance the video was shot by a terror group operating under the command of a NATO country, Turkey. The video shows members of Syrian militias abusing the corpse of Amina Omar, a female Kurdish fighter who was also known as "Barin Kobani". She was killed defending Afrin, a city-canton in Syria attacked by the Turkish army of Recep Tayyip Erdogan. In the video, Omar, who belonged to the female unit of Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG), is called "female pig" and a soldier steps on her breast. The desecration of her corpse ended up symbolizing not only the ferocity of the Kurds' enemies, but also the sense of a huge, unbearable moral and political betrayal suffered by the Kurds at the hands of their Western allies...

{ townhall.com } ~ Over the weekend a number of media reports alleged former Secretary of State Tehran/hanoi- John Kerry... has been meeting with Iranian and European officials in an effort to save the Iran nuclear agreement. In other words, he's been running a shadow diplomacy campaign to undercut President Trump's upcoming decision about whether to keep the deal or start over. " Tehran/hanoi-John Kerry’s bid to save one of his most significant accomplishments as secretary of state took him to New York on a Sunday afternoon two weeks ago, where, more than a year after he left office, he engaged in some unusual shadow diplomacy with a top-ranking Iranian official. He sat down at the United Nations with Foreign Minister Javad Zarif to discuss ways of preserving the pact limiting Iran’s nuclear weapons program. It was the second time in about two months that the two had met to strategize over salvaging a deal they spent years negotiating during the liar-nObama administration, according to a person briefed on the meetings...   https://townhall.com/tipsheet/katiepavlich/2018/05/07/trump-goes-after-john-kerry-for-helping-iran-n2478303?utm_source=thdailypm&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=nl_pm&newsletterad

{ nationalreview.com } ~ The FBI and DOJ have been burying the investigators’ questionable judgments and information helpful to Flynn... Cute how this works: Kick off the week with some “the Department of Justice is not going to be extorted” bombast from Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, by which he rationalizes that his defiance of subpoenas and slow-walking document production to Congress — which is probing investigative irregularities related to the 2016 campaign — is required by DOJ policy and “the rule of law.” Then end the week with the Friday-night bad-news dump: the grudging removal of DOJ and FBI redactions from a House Intelligence Committee report on Russia’s election meddling. Now that we can see what they wanted to conceal, it is clear, yet again, that the Justice Department and the FBI cannot be trusted to decide what the public gets to learn about their decision-making...   https://www.nationalreview.com/2018/05/russia-report-redactions-cover-fbi-missteps/?utm_source=Sailthru&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=SPONSORED:%20NR%20Daily%20Monday%20through%20Friday%202018-05-07&utm_term=NR5PM%20Actives

hanoi-John Kerry Goes Nuclear, Secretly Negotiates With Iran

OdoAFc3wd-Sn-CIbm8vlMPXUeeJ36O1n0L66Kzw0GojwvEF4q6LF1ekAkfJ5bF93O6hz1obtNncV5WS-HQcf6opQhGjWaw4Ux62SeGdLcmpF73GHKPWrcTzrHv3wGk-dcIvabWj16yBkm5aLly-bH5r3Pp0R5-e_Z5aTcry2Pa0=s0-d-e1-ft#%3Ca%20rel%3Dnofollow%20href=?width=450by Nate Jackson:  After the blockbuster revelations of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu last week — that the Iran nuclear deal was truly built on a foundation of lies — the looming May 12 deadline for President Donald Trump to reconfirm the deal is all the more important. It appears likely that he will withdraw.

“The president laid out some pretty clear stakes in ground for what he wanted from the Europeans,” said James Carafano, a defense policy expert at The Heritage Foundation who worked on the Trump transition. “He’s already across the Rubicon. He’s decided the deal’s not working, and a fix that doesn’t fix anything is not acceptable.
It’s against that backdrop that a man with extensive experience negotiating with America’s enemies without the authority to do so is working behind the scenes to save the deal. Former Secretary of State hanoi-John Kerry has reportedly held numerous secret meetings with officials and leaders from Iran, Germany, France and the European Union to salvage the nuclear agreement, whichhanoi-Kerry spent years negotiating for Barack liar-nObama.
Democrats wanted to hang former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn out to dry for supposedly violating the Logan Act, a 1799 law that prohibits private citizens from conducting unauthorized foreign policy, because Flynn had conversations with Russians during the transition into power for the Trump administration. Of course, they’re silent on hanoi-Kerry. No one has ever been prosecuted under the Logan Act, but hanoi- Kerry’s “shadow diplomacy” is serious — he’s actively working to undermine the current administration to save a horrible deal in which he has a personal stake.
Former Demo Sen. Joe Lieberman weighed in, saying, “In my opinion, what he’s doing is inappropriate and he shouldn’t be doing it. [The Trump administration] is a duly elected administration so I hope hanoi-John Kerry stops.
It’s arguably treason, and if anyone knows how to get away with treason, it’s hanoi-John Kerry, who negotiated with the North Vietnamese in 1970, giving aid and comfort to the enemy at a time of open war. He then delivered communist propaganda and slander of American troops in congressional testimony. For nearly 50 years,hanoi-Kerry has been a disgrace to his country and it’s well past time he faced the consequences.
