Cultivating Ignorance and Arrogance
"No nation is permitted to live in ignorance with impunity," wrote Thomas Jefferson.
Millions of Americans remain puzzled by the legions of fellow citizens who would trade capitalism and exceptionalism for the siren song of "free" stuff proposed to varying degrees by Bernie Sanders, Hilly Clinton and, to some extent, Donald slump-Trump. They shouldn't be. A pernicious combination of civic illiteracy, coupled with a growing sense of entitlement, especially among Millennials, is rapidly approaching critical mass.
The American Council of Trustees and Alumni (ACTA) has released a sobering report regarding civic illiteracy. "The Crisis in Civic Education" reveals that numerous surveys show "recent college graduates are alarmingly ignorant of America's history and heritage," the report's summary states. "They cannot identify the term lengths of members of Congress, the substance of the First Amendment, [or] the origin of the separation of powers. They do not know the Father of the Constitution, and nearly 10% say that Judith Sheindlin — 'Judge Judy' — is on the Supreme Court."
This is no accident. ACTA surveyed more than 1,100 colleges and universities, and discovered that only 18% of them have course requirements in government or civics. High schools are equally deficient. A 2014 civics test administered by the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) revealed that only 23% of high school seniors had "proficient" or better level of knowledge in civics, and a dismal 18% are at the same level with regard to history. Both percentages represented "no significant change" since 2010. -The Patriot Post

New Hampshire Primary: The Race to Second Place If the fickle polls ahead of the New Hampshire primary are any indicator, then Donald slump-Trump and Bernie Sanders will walk away winners. The question then becomes: Did the two win big enough? According to Real Clear Politics, slump-Trump has a 17-point lead. But if the ultimate poll — the vote itself — shows a more lackluster support from living, breathing voters, then slump-Trump faces a rocky road as he didn't meet "yuge" expectations.
For the rest of the GOP field, the race has come down to who can finish with a strong second. The polls place Marco Rubio, John Kasich, Ted Cruz and Jeb Bush in a dead heat. Rubio's strong third-place finish in last week's Iowa caucus raised his profile, but that surge was perhaps tempered during Saturday's debate performance that involved scripted talking points in response to scripted talking points from Chris Christie.
Furthermore, New Hampshire primary goers are much more moderate than those in Iowa. The Granite State could be where the establishment strikes back. Kasich — the GOP candidate who told a voter he's "the right temperature" between Clinton and Sanders — has placed a strong New Hampshire performance at the cornerstone of his campaign strategy. Whatever the returns may be tonight, we expect some of the GOP candidates to pack their bags and drop from the race as the field becomes further defined.
Meanwhile in the Democrat primary, Hilly Clinton is trying to limit the damage from Sanders' expected win, but she faces problems from outside and within her campaign. Inside Clinton campaign headquarters, the "inevitable" candidate has been criticizing her campaign staff, dissatisfied with how her campaign communicates her message. (We sympathize: It's hard to keep the lies straight.) Leaving New Hampshire, she's reportedly planning to restructure her operation. Looming on the horizon, the FBI finally officially acknowledged that it is investigating Clinton's homebrew email server. If charges are eventually brought, then Clinton's New Hampshire results won't matter. -The Patriot Post

Clinton's XX Chromosome Voter Mandate
Hilly Clinton is a female. This just in, we know. But it appears she thinks flaunting her status as a victim of the war on women might be her golden ticket to the Democrat nomination. During last Thursday's Democrat debate, Clinton said, "Senator Sanders is the only person who I think would characterize me — a woman running to be the first woman president — as exemplifying the establishment." She can't be establishment; she's a woman. Never mind her two and a half decades in Washington.
And she's working that line of attack on Sanders, even deploying Bill Clinton to defend her womanhood. Bill spoke of a Hilly-supporting blogger who writes pseudonymously because she has been "subject to vicious trolling and attacks that are literally too profane often, not to mention sexist, to repeat." Welcome to the Internet. And yes, Bill Clinton, who has been credibly accused of rape, is worried about someone being sexist.
Meanwhile, feminist icon Gloria Steinem mused, "When you're young, you're thinking: 'Where are the boys?' The boys are with Bernie." Isn't that, well, sexist?
On top of that, former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright declared, "There's a special place in hell for women who don't help each other!" The implication, we suppose, is that people with two X chromosomes must vote for Hilly Clinton, or risk hellfire and damnation. When asked about that on Sunday morning TV, Hilly immediately began her grating and awkward laughter.

Bernie Sanders constantly attempts to reveal his opponent’s “dirty laundry” and attacks their integrity as an attempt to climb in the polls. Recently, he has been alluding to Clinton being involved in the suspicious death of President Clinton’s former White House Counsel Vince Foster. Now he is condemning Hilly Clinton for her campaign finance tactics, saying she has been influenced by big banks due to her history of delivering high-priced speeches to Wall Street. However, in an interview with MSNBC, Howard Dean, one of Clinton’s most avid supporters, was quick to accuse Sanders of doing the same thing. {wnd.com} ~ It amuses me that certain people are convinced that Christians are angry scolds but totally miss the humorlessness and angst of certain Christophobic secularists... When I wrote the book, “Persecution: How Liberals Are Waging War against Christianity,” secularists panned the notion that Christians, being in the majority, could be the subjects of systematic discrimination. I found that an odd argument, especially from people who routinely argued that women are victims of gender discrimination. Their argument may have a superficial attraction, but it does not square with the evidence. I marshaled 400 pages of proof to substantiate my case. That's an amazing revelation because just one year ago all the smart money was betting that the next president would be a Republican governor..
And why not? The governors were supposed to be the GOP's talent pool.

If the nominee wasn't going to be Jeb Bush, the former two term Florida CEO with a sterling job performance, voters would surely look to Wisconsin's Scott Walker, the conservative warrior for financial sanity and labor reform, or the policy wizard Bobby Jindal of Louisiana.

Mike Huckabee. Mr. Perry had an amazing story to tell: from 2007-13, while he was governor, the Lone Star State created more jobs than all the other 49 states. He was the only Republican or Democratic candidate who served in the military. What was not to like?

They were nonentities even though Mr. Bush spent millions in the state. The more John Kasich boasted of how he balanced budgets in the 1990s and for five years as governor - extraordinarily impressive feats - the more conservatives concluded: he's been around too long.

I don't have a horse in this race though I helped Sen. Rand Paul with his tax and economic program. But the demise of the governors should be deeply disappointing to conservatives, because these executives have actually walked the walk. They have cut taxes. They have balanced budgets. They have taken on unions and reformed welfare. When and why did conservatives stop believing that actions speak louder than words - i.e., the bluster on the Senate floor or a reality TV show? Many of the governors won election and policy victories in blue or purple states - states like Florida and Ohio that the GOP must win in November.

When voters whine that he isn't conservative enough, it always makes me wince. Wait. A governor who cut taxes five times, who instituted the most advanced school choice program in the country, who oversaw an enormous growth spurt in Florida, a fearless free trader, and someone who fought for the right to life unfailingly isn't reliably conservative?

Mr. Jindal was too wonkish. Mr. Walker came across as not ready for prime time. Mr. Huckabee was too preachy. Mr. Perry never had a chance because he was a governor from Texas - and we just did that.

When he got the top tax rate down to 28 percent, he won 97-3 in the Senate and even persuaded the likes of Ted Kennedy to vote for it. The ultimate victory is getting the other side to vote with you.
