Early Saturday, Admiral Brad Cooper, the commander of the United States Central Command (CENTCOM), provided a comprehensive update of progress in Operation Epic Fury. Admiral Cooper presented quite a list of targets hit.
U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) chief Adm. Brad Cooper said Saturday that the Pentagon’s operation in Iran has struck more than 8,000 targets since the start of the Middle East conflict.
In his update, posted to social platform X, Cooper said the campaign has weakened Iran’s combat capabilities and crippled its naval forces. He added that the strikes have successfully targeted Iranian missile sites and attack drones.
“Their navy is not sailing, their tactical fighters are not flying, and they’ve lost the ability to launch missiles and drones at the high rates seen at the beginning of the conflict,” the commander said in a video.
Iran's navy, we might note, is not sailing, as Iran's navy has been largely converted into artificial reefs for fish habitat. The few remaining Iranian speedboats are being hunted by the United States Air Force A-10s and Apache attack helicopters. Iran is, however, still launching missiles and drones, but at a reduced rate.
It's a pretty remarkable list of serviced targets in only three weeks.
The comments come after President Trump signaled Friday that the U.S. is “getting very close” to meeting its objectives in the region.
The Trump administration is working to secure safe passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz, Cooper noted that American forces have struck 130 Iranian vessels as part of the “largest elimination of a navy over a three-week period since World War II.”
Iran has, however, revealed some capabilities we only suspected previously - like having missiles with a much greater range than previously thought.
On Friday, President Trump, speaking at a ceremony presenting the Commander-in-Chief trophy to the United States Naval Academy football team, called out the success CENTCOM has made against Iran's navy in particular.

The president said:
We're doing extremely well in Iran. The difference between them and us is, they had a navy, two weeks ago. They have no navy anymore. It's all at the bottom of the sea. 58 ships knocked down in two days. And we have the greatest navy anywhere in the world, it's not even close. We are doing very well, we're not going to let them have nuclear weapons. Because if they had them, they'd use them, are we're not going to let that happen. It should have been done a long time ago by other presidents.
All of this paints a compelling picture of a remarkable military campaign, extraordinarily well-planned and well-executed. Of course, the United States and Israel already had one major advantage, and it's the advantage that always wins or loses wars: Logistics. If one of our ships or one of our bombers launches a missile, we have more. When Iran fires a missile or launches a drone, they can't replace it.
Beans, bullets, and gas. It's always about beans, bullets, and gas. We simply have more of all of those things.
The coming week may see some interesting news out of Iran. With the theocratic regime on the run and the regime's military collapsing, the Iranian people have a historic opportunity. Let's hope they seize the moment.

On August 5, 2015, Barack Obama gave a speech at American University in Washington D.C. spelling out the imagined fruits of his recently signed Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) between Iran and six world powers including Russia, China, and the US. It was Obama’s signature achievement, and he and his minions had been selling it hard for the previous two years.
Boasted Obama, “After two years of negotiations, we have achieved a detailed arrangement that permanently prohibits Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon. It cuts off all of Iran’s pathways to a bomb. It contains the most comprehensive inspection and verification regime ever negotiated to monitor a nuclear program.”
Obama never said the exact words “peace for our time” as British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain had in selling out Czechoslovakia to appease Adolph Hitler in 1938, but he might as well have. The immediate price Obama paid to get the Iranian deal was $56 billion in unfrozen assets. He sweetened the deal a few months later with $1.7 billion delivered in cash. The long term price was peace in the region.
Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin smiled throughout the bargaining like the Cheshire Cat. The New York Times noted Russia’s “lightning effort to capitalize on the deal.” The Russians had been indispensable, and they knew it.
As Obama told Tom Friedman of the New York Times, “We would have not achieved this agreement had it not been for Russia’s willingness to stick with us and the other P5-Plus members in insisting on a strong deal.” In July 2015, it was still respectable for an American president to cozy up to Putin. Just a year later, Team Obama would be framing Putin as Donald Trump’s evil collaborator.
The Iran deal’s chief salesman was Obama policy advisor, Ben Rodes, brother of then CBS News president David Rhodes. Rhodes understood the way the media worked in the realm of foreign policy. Major newspapers used to have foreign bureaus, he told David Samuels writing for the the New York Times Magazine. They no longer did. “They call us to explain to them what’s happening in Moscow and Cairo.”

Rhodes boasted, “We created an echo chamber. They were saying things that validated what we had given them to say.” This did not surprise Rhodes given that the “average reporter we talk to is 27 years old, and their only reporting experience consists of being around political campaigns. That’s a sea change. They literally know nothing.”
Back to American University. “Now, let me pause here,” Obama told his audience, “just to remind everybody that when the interim deal was announced, critics—the same critics we’re hearing from now—called it ‘a historic mistake.’ They insisted Iran would ignore its obligations. They warned that sanctions would unravel. They warned that Iran would receive a windfall to support terrorism.”
“The critics were wrong,” said Obama. No, Barry, they weren’t. Although Obama dismissed the notion that “all this money,” namely the $56 billion, would be “funneled into Iran’s pernicious activities,” he knew better himself and all but admitted it.
The first $400 million of the $1.7 billion cash payout
“Let’s stipulate that some of that money will flow to activities that we object to. We have no illusions about the Iranian government, or the significance of the Revolutionary Guard and the Quds Force. Iran supports terrorist organizations like Hezbollah.” He rationalized this concession by saying, “Iran has always found a way to fund these efforts.” To achieve this seeming success, Obama was willing to overlook “these efforts.”
What particularly troubled David Samuels was Team Obama’s willingness to put false stories into play to get public support. One such story was that Obama and his people began to engage with Iran only after moderates came to power in 2013. According to Samuels, that story was “largely manufactured for the purpose for selling the deal.”
The Obama White House entered these talks well before the moderates took power, and “power” in this case was an illusion. The Ayatollah Ali Khamenei had “handpicked” these alleged moderates, who did little more than provide cover for the nuclear deal. Rhodes preferred they turned out to be reformers, but, as he admitted, “We are not betting on that.” Rhodes made no bones, said Samuels, that his efforts represented “a potentially dangerous distortion of democracy.”
Concluded Obama, “I’ve had to make a lot of tough calls as President, but whether or not this deal is good for American security is not one of those calls. It’s not even close.”
Said Chamberlain upon returning to 10 Downing Street from his comparable success in Munich, ”My good friends, this is the second time in our history that there has come back from Germany to Downing Street peace with honour. I believe it is peace for our time...We thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Now I recommend you go home and sleep quietly in your beds.”
What Churchill was to Chamberlain, Trump is to Obama: the guy left to clean up the mess.
