The endless loop of churn being spun on the “Iran Deal,” mostly by Democrats and their Leftmedia talkingheads and scribes, is much more consequential than just political disingenuity.
It’s deadly.
Donald Trump had one objective in launching a limited war with Iran. When he entered office in 2025 for a second term, he declared that Iran’s tenure as a rogue Islamist State was coming to an end, and its quest to build nuclear weapons would be crushed.
And he became the first American president to deliver on that promise since our “Cold War” with Iran started in 1979, after our peanut-farming President Jimmy Carter enabled the Iran hostage crisis.
I outlined the consequences of a nuclear-armed Iran in my recent column, “If You Thought 9/11 Was Bad, Consider an Islamic Bomb Detonation in the U.S..” Despite Iran previously having the immediate capability to develop and deploy a nuclear warhead deep into Europe, the threat to our homeland is not ballistic; it’s the detonation of a nuclear weapon transported to a major American harbor or city by one of several sea and air transport options.
Now, four months later, all the mainstream media’s armchair national security experts are questioning Trump’s “memorandum of understanding,” the pros and cons of which our Nate Jackson objectively outlined last week. This agreement is a nonbinding document to frame negotiations to end kinetic actions — a 60-day ceasefire to determine a path forward for rebuilding that nation of 90 million noncombatant Iranian men, women, and children.
Of this MOU, our analyst Jack DeVine asks, “Is it even possible to put in place a functional agreement with an untrustworthy opponent?” He concludes, “Yes, but very carefully, with eyes wide open and with Plan B at the ready.”
There is a not-so-old adage about warfare — an adage coined by former Secretary of State Colin Powell and now known as The Pottery Barn Rule: “You break it, you own it.” That was true with massive reconstruction efforts in Germany and Japan after World War II. And though not always a hard rule, it is true with Iran — if we are to win the hearts and minds of the Iranian people, more than 70% of whom are under age 35.
The substance of the agreement, now that Iran’s nuclear development programs have been decimated along with most of its offensive military capabilities, is to verifiably ensure, as the MOU notes, that Iran will “not procure or develop nuclear weapons” in the future.
As Trump made clear, “If they don’t behave, we’ll go right back to dropping bombs right smack in the middle of their head.” And nobody doubts he means that.
It is going to take a lot of capital to rebuild infrastructure, and among the things Trump is doing to entice the regime to behave is lifting a number of economically crippling sanctions against Iran. He is also proposing a $300 billion reconstruction and development fund underwritten by private investment from the U.S., Gulf Arab states, Asia, South America, and Africa — half of which has reportedly already been secured. Those funds will pass through a Treasury escrow account, meaning it will be subject to U.S. control of where and how it is allocated.
That notwithstanding, apparently, the breathless critics believe Trump, JD Vance, and all our military and intelligence leaders just fell off a turnip truck — and somehow failed to realize that three-dimensional chess negotiations with Iran would be complicated by the fact that Iran’s mullahs can’t be trusted.
The Trump administration knows the only way to herd these squirrels is through incremental steps. The optics are bad, but I think the process is not as bleak as the mainstream media and commentators project it to be. That being said, the administration can influence public opinion with clear messaging, but the MSM propagandists largely dictate the direction of public opinion. The good news is that public trust of the MSM is low.
Notably, among opinions that matter, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, speaking on behalf of his alliance, declared this week: “I think the president is doing exactly what is needed, degrading Iran’s nuclear capability. Could you imagine if Iran would get its hands on [a] nuclear weapon? This is an exporter of chaos. It is an exporter of terrorism. It would be devastating for the region. It would be devastating for the whole world. … He is right … to move to this deal. In essence, what it means is that Iran will not be able to develop this nuclear capability.”
The consequences of destroying Iran’s imminent development and deployment capabilities of nuclear weapons have had significant side effects in terms of the impact on global oil supply and, by extension, the global economy. It has also taken a toll on our military reserves.
But what was the alternative? Allow the perpetuation of Iran’s nuclear threat in order to keep gas prices low?
For context, let’s take a quick walk down history lane…
Not one of the last six presidents, other than Donald Trump, has been willing to confront Iran with regime-destabilizing kinetic action.
To be clear, Ronald Reagan did not have to take any action other than his oath of office to secure the release of American hostages taken by Iran under Jimmy Carter’s watch.
Until Trump, no president since Reagan could conjure up the political will to take on Ruhollah Khomeini, or his Shia cleric successor, the second Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Since Khamenei’s rise in 1989, Iran has been the perennial disruptor of Middle East peace as the region’s primary state sponsor of Islamic terror proxies, including Hamas and Hezbollah.
Reagan’s successor, George H.W. Bush, drew Middle Eastern lines in the sand, including the Desert Shield/Storm offensive to remove Saddam Hussein from Kuwait. But he did not have the resolve to go beyond the UN mandate and decapitate Saddam, leaving Iran’s status as a rogue Islamic regime intact.
Bush’s successor, Bill Clinton, was an appeaser of Islamists. He had several opportunities to capture or kill al-Qa'ida’s leader Osama bin Laden prior to the 9/11 Islamist attack on our nation, but he refused.
In response to that attack, George W. Bush launched Operation Enduring Freedom against Afghanistan, followed by Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003. For the record, one in every six American combat fatalities in Iraq was killed by Iran-backed militias, just part of Iran’s targeting of Americans over the last four decades.
Bush 43’s successor, Barack Obama, became Khamenei’s great appeaser, codifying the Iran nuke deal in 2015 and effectively paving the way for Iran’s development of the Islamic Bomb.
Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) dropped this political BIG Lie again last week: “President Obama masterfully negotiated an agreement that prevented Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon.” That has been endlessly echoed by Demo Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY).
In 2017, Trump took on Iran and largely held the line in defense of Israel. But Iran’s state-terror-sponsor status surged back in 2021, when the feckless appeasers Joe Biden and Kamala Harris took office.
The Biden/Harris regime white-flagged Islamic terror with its surrender and retreat from Afghanistan in August 2021, and they empowered the 2023 Hamas (read: Iranian) attack on Israel, leaving Israel to defend itself alone.
As noted previously, when Trump entered office in 2025 for a second term, he made clear that Iran’s quest to build nuclear weapons would be crushed.
In June 2025, as Israel endeavored to contain the threat from Hamas, confident of America’s support under Trump, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu launched Operation Rising Lion, a 12-day war against Iran to protect the civilized world from that rogue nation’s development of nuclear weapons. Eleven days later, President Trump launched Operation Midnight Hammer, destroying Iran’s deep-underground processed uranium and enrichment facilities to further incapacitate its construction of nuclear weapons.
In the eight months that followed Rising Lion and Midnight Hammer, Israel and the U.S. attempted to negotiate a peace settlement with Iran’s Khamenei and President/Dictator Masoud Pezeshkian, but to no avail.
What Khamenei and his brutal regime did do on January 8 and 9 is murder more than 35,000 mostly young protesters threatening their theocratic dictatorship.
In late February of this year, I was asked by a colleague, GEN B.B. Bell (USA Ret.), what I thought were Trump’s strategic and tactical options in Iran. I responded to Part A and Part B of his question with one word: “Decapitation.”
A day later, on 28 February, the U.S., in collaboration with Israel, launched Operation Epic Fury. I labeled it “Operation Epic Decapitation” because among the targeting objectives were Ali Khamenei and almost 50 of his key regime leaders.
Of the ayatollah’s demise, Trump said: “Khamenei, one of the most evil people in history, is dead.” That was followed by sustained air attacks on Iran to leave its nuclear capabilities in ruins, along with its military capabilities.
Now, moving forward, I have to ask: Does anyone with an IQ higher than their age actually believe that a deal to end hostilities with a bunch of mullahs and military tyrants running a rogue Islamist state was going to be squeaky clean?
Do they really believe that Iran’s current Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei’s lapdog, Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, would not constantly refute the terms of negotiation?
Clearly, the Trump administration understood that the threat of Iran’s nuclear capability was imminent.
Clearly, the Trump administration understands that supporting the rise of a legitimate government from the ruins of a rogue regime will take years. And as with most of Trump’s strategic moves, this one is pragmatic.
But the Schumer/Jeffries clown show will dominate the messaging about the Iran MOU/deal, and at great peril to the national security of our nation.

As the United States approaches its 250th birthday, a familiar chorus has emerged. We are told that the celebration must be “reimagined,” “broadened,” “corrected,” or “fixed.” The argument is that America’s history has too often been viewed through the lens of its achievements, with insufficient focus on its failures. Left-leaning media and academics argue that the nation’s anniversary should become an exercise in national self-flagellation rather than national celebration.
I disagree.
A quarter millennium is not the moment for a nation to apologize for its existence. It is the moment to remember why that nation exists at all.
A USA Today article published yesterday, titled “A growing movement aims to fix America’s big birthday celebration,” tells the story before the argument even begins. We are informed that “a growing movement aims to fix America’s big birthday” and that activists are “pushing back” against “splashy celebrations” of America’s 250th anniversary.
Of course <sarcasm>, Phaedra Trethan, the author of the article, had this to say about the 250th celebration on her Facebook page this week:

The organization pressured the National Park Service to create a slavery memorial at the site of George Washington's presidential residence in Philadelphia, arguing that the role of slavery in the nation's founding had been overlooked. ATAC seeks to reinterpret American history by placing greater emphasis on the country's historical injustices rather than its achievements and founding ideals.
Cultural Marxism
The 1619 Project, launched by The New York Times Magazine in 2019, seeks to reframe American history by arguing that the arrival of the first African slaves in Virginia in 1619 should be regarded as the nation’s true founding. The project contends that slavery and its legacy are not peripheral features of American history but are central to understanding the country’s institutions, economy, culture, and politics. The thesis is that the founding of the nation was actually when the first slave was imported into the British colonies in 1619.
The project represents a revisionist interpretation of American history. It elevates America’s “original sin” above its founding ideals and presents a distorted picture of the nation. It minimizes the significance of 1776, the Declaration of Independence, and the constitutional principles of liberty, self-government, and individual rights that have inspired reform movements throughout post-Enlightenment history. In this view, the project seeks to teach younger generations that the United States is fundamentally defined by oppression rather than by the continual expansion of freedom and opportunity. A twisted example of progressive activist evil.
So, evidently, the USA Today article was written from the perspective of a true believer of the 1619 Project. USA Today argues that we need to “fix” our history.
Fix it?
America’s birthday does not need fixing. It needs remembering.
There is something revealing about a class of people who look at the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence and see, not a miracle of human liberty, but another opportunity for correction, scolding, and grievance management.
This is the exhausted tone of the modern managerial left: America as a problem set, the Founders as suspects, patriotism as embarrassment, and the celebration as something requiring adult supervision. Well, because someone might actually believe that the history of our nation is worth defending. And clearly, that can’t be allowed to happen <sarcasm again, for those that missed it>.
But the next generation deserves better than this sour inheritance.
The Founding Fathers pledged their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor against the greatest empire on earth. They created a republic based on the radical proposition that rights come from God, not government. They built a constitutional system designed to restrain power because they understood, better than today’s experts, that human beings are fallen and governments are dangerous.
That is not something to “fix.” That is something to celebrate and teach.
The Founding Fathers themselves understood human imperfection better than most. That is why they built a constitutional system designed not around the fantasy of perfect rulers, but around the reality of flawed human beings. They assumed power would be abused. They assumed governments would overreach. They assumed liberty would always be under pressure. Their genius was not in creating a perfect country. Their genius was that they created a government structured to enable self-correction through a system of checks and balances.
The American Revolution was one of the most extraordinary political achievements in human history. A group of farmers, merchants, lawyers, printers, and soldiers challenged the most powerful empire on earth and won. Then, instead of crowning a king, they wrote a Constitution. That was the miracle.
The men who signed the Declaration of Independence were not mere attention-seeking influencers. They were not activists. They were not seeking social approval. They risked hanging from a British gallows. Many lost property. Some lost family members. Several died in hardship. And out of their sacrifices, they built a nation whose principles would inspire abolitionists, suffragists, civil-rights leaders, dissidents behind the Iron Curtain, and freedom movements around the world.
That is worth celebrating.
Increasingly, young Americans are taught to view their inheritance primarily through the lens of grievance. They learn about the sins but not the achievements. They learn about the failures but not the courage.
The result is predictable. A generation raised to believe its country is fundamentally oppressive will not feel much obligation to preserve it.
Patriotism is not blind worship of government. In fact, America’s founders would have been deeply suspicious of that idea. Patriotism is gratitude for an inheritance received and stewardship of that inheritance for those who come after us.
Every nation has dark chapters. What makes America remarkable is not that it escaped them. What makes America remarkable is that its founding principles contained the tools needed to overcome them.
One of the oddities of modern America is that we increasingly seem determined to teach our children to view their national inheritance with suspicion. Travel across Europe, and you will find statues of kings, generals, emperors, explorers, and statesmen standing largely where they have stood for generations. Their histories are debated, their failures acknowledged, but the monuments remain because those nations understand that a civilization cannot survive if it treats its own past as a crime scene.
Yet in the United States, a movement has emerged that views nearly every founder, monument, symbol, and national celebration as an opportunity for indictment and special interest self-promotion.
The same impulse is now reaching across the Atlantic, where activists demand apologies and reparations from the British Crown, aristocratic families, and European governments for historical involvement in the slave trade that occurred hundreds of years ago. But there is a profound difference between studying history and putting an entire civilization perpetually on trial. A nation that teaches each generation to regard its founders as villains should not be surprised when fewer citizens feel any obligation to preserve what those founders built.
The question facing the next generation is not whether America has flaws. The question is whether the principles of 1776 remain worth defending.
The answer is self-evident.
A nation that recognizes rights as coming from God rather than government is worth defending.
A nation built on individual liberty, free speech, due process, private property, and limited government is worth defending.
A nation that has done more than any other in history to advance the cause of human freedom and dignity is worth defending.
America’s 250th birthday should not be a seminar on national guilt. It should be a celebration of an extraordinary experiment in self-government that, despite every prediction of failure, remains standing two and a half centuries later.
That is an achievement worth defending and celebrating.
The republic stands. Let’s keep it that way.

Vice President J.D. Vance on Monday said Iran has agreed to allow inspectors from the United Nations’ nuclear watchdog agency to inspect its nuclear sites, calling the move part of a “good foundation for a successful final deal” to end the war that began nearly five months ago.
“The final deal is the house,” Mr. Vance told reporters in Switzerland after marathon negotiations with the Iranian leaders. “We have set the foundation. We haven’t built the house, but we’ve laid a successful foundation to get to a good place for the American people.”
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on X that the meeting delivered “major progress to end [the] Lebanon War,” and noted progress on oil exports, the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, frozen Iranian assets and major reconstruction plans for Iran.
Mr. Vance acknowledged several hiccups in the talks, including a threat by Iran’s team to walk out of the talks because of inflammatory social media posts by President Trump threatening a fresh round of attacks on the country because of its support for Hezbollah in Lebanon, an Iranian proxy that has attacked Israel.

“What we told the Iranians yesterday is when you guys engage in what us millennials might call ‘trash talk,’ you can’t expect the president of the United States not to respond and not to correct the record,” Mr. Vance said.
Perhaps the biggest deal struck during the talks that began Sunday and lasted through Monday was Iran’s agreement to allow International Atomic Energy Agency inspectors to begin identifying sites of enriched material.

A leaked version of the memorandum of understanding — the pact which both countries are using as the framework to end the war — said that Washington and Tehran agreed that Iran’s enriched nuclear material will not be removed, but rather diluted inside Iran under IAEA supervision. Mr. Vance did not confirm that.
The vice president also said that Jared Kushner, Mr. Trump’s son-in-law and one of the lead U.S. negotiators, came up with the idea of unfreezing Iranian assets and having Iran use those funds to buy American corn, soy and wheat to benefit the nation’s farmers.
Qatar, which is overseeing the mediation, would have to approve the process, but the thinking is that lifting Iranian sanctions would free up money to buy American agricultural products.
Other key points that Mr. Vance said showed progress included establishing a mechanism for keeping the Strait of Hormuz open, coordination for the ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon and a process to negotiate the points that remain.
Iran has not acknowledged any of the measures and, as an agricultural nation, doesn’t have much of a demand for U.S. crops.
Sunday’s high-level talks were the first discussion under the U.S-Iran memorandum of understanding, with officials from both sides present alongside the mediating nations of Pakistan and Qatar.

The foreign affairs ministries of Pakistan and Qatar issued a joint statement describing the session as “positive” and “constructive.”
Pakistan and Qatar said the main success of Sunday’s talks was the creation of a “High Level Committee” which will have political oversight of the mediation and agreed on a road map towards reaching “a final deal within 60 days, laying the foundation for the immediate commencement of further technical talks” on Iran’s nuclear program, sanctions and dispute resolution, the statement said.
Talks are scheduled to continue for the rest of the week.

Vice President JD Vance revealed on Monday that negotiations with Iran in Switzerland are still ongoing, despite threats from the Iranian delegation that it would not continue talks until President Trump apologized for threatening military action against the country and its negotiators.
Vance said he told the Iranians they should expect some "trash talk" from President Trump if they were going to engage in the same behavior themselves. He went on to say that despite the public posturing, the Iranian delegation remained at the table and that both sides had made "great progress" toward a more lasting framework of peace.
