But, this week Obama took it to a whole new level, dedicating half of his weekly address to vilifying the “top 1 percent,” while claiming the middle class has been losing ground as “the rich become richer.” His message this week is purely “spread the wealth around.” Like I’ve said before, if Obama is going to continue to support the OWS crowd, he better be willing to accept the consequences of their actions too, which up to this point include rape, encouragement of cop killing and rioting.

Reality check #1 for Obama: The middle class has lost ground because of your failed economic policies, not because of the top 1 percent in America. In addition, the middle class will continue to lose ground as you stoke the flames of class warfare and threaten to raise taxes on the job creators who employ the middle class in this country. For all those millionaires you claim are willing to pay more to support your big government programs and worthless stimulus packages, they can send their money right on over into the black hole of Washington spending at pay.gov.

“Watching the machinations of Barack Obama, it seems as though he is creating what the Marxists call “internal contradictions.”

Gas prices ready to breach the $5 mark, but a relentless Administration campaign against increased domestic energy production; midterm elections soundly rejecting the President and his party’s command and control initiatives, butvigorous efforts to extend them in contempt not only of electoral, but legislative and judicial checks; foreign and defense policies that have produced nothing beyond betrayal of our interests and few remaining friends, but an eager embrace of fringe notions of a utopian internationalist order and our place in that order: every day brings new movements in this symphony of  dissonance.

Unfortunately, we are not simply enjoying a clarifying dialectic; we are in the middle of a high stakes race.  The objective in this race is not a place; it is a date: Election Day, November 6, 2012.

As the contending parties converge on the objective, the Administration understands that the conventional electoral calculus seems irreversible—gas prices, inflation, unemployment, and geopolitical discomfiture will be joined in 2012 by the newfound fear of deficits and the national debt, and maybe even for the fate of constitutional government.  Their response to this looming threat of defeat is a version of the old Cold War communist strategy of “talk talk, fight fight.”

The talk element is employed to waste time, obscure tactical maneuvers, divert and divide the opposition, and sometimes even to draw fire onto decoy targets.  Behind the screen of the talk is the “fight” or action element of the strategy—executive, and to the extent still possible, fiscal measures calculated to bring the country by November 6, 2012 to a state in which an electoral majority, comprising both Obama partisans and opponents, is in such a high state of anxiety that they are unwilling to change presidents.

How does this work?  First, there is the talk element.  Obama and his people are drowning us in a talk tsunami.  I am convinced that much of it is, for them, meaningless, meant merely to overload our capacity for outrage and give their house media “issues,” ostensibly to debate each evening, but really for generating a constant supply of vehicles through which to diminish the opposition and generally desensitize the country to the enormity of what Obama is doing.  The outrage fatigue grows and conservatives scramble to confront the dizzying torrent of talk, talk, with a tone increasingly shrill and desperation—borne intramural wrangling.  The  release of the birth certificate, “Something special about the Resurrection,” and other peculiar Easter omissions and commissions, the rise and disappearance of the political “civility” issue, keeping alive for months the fantasy of New York City trials for 9/11 conspirators, the great Fatwa against down time naps for drowsy air traffic controllers, UN international legal rights for Mother Earth, endless reprises of canards about the evil effects of conservative talk radio, the Ground Zero Mosque contretemps, TSA groping policy, attacking Arizona’s immigration enforcement initiative, embracing Al Sharpton and giving the New Black Panthers a pass, Michelle’s “You don’t want fries with that!” campaign.

This is not to say some of these do not merit real concern, but Obama and his minions are merely playing with them; the best evidence for which is the airiness of their arguments and the insouciance with which they and their media mouthpieces flit from one to the next.  The key here for the opposition—forget about the talk.  It is just talk.  Republicans shouldn’t play the other guy’s game.  They have neither the language nor the style, as Speaker Boehner most recently demonstrated when he trod on the oil price banana peel; he should concentrate on the fight fight.

When national Republicans respond to Obama talk talk in their accustomed mush mouthed, tentative, and bloodless way, they generally turn off those they need the most to join them—including the libertarians and the generally politically inert 25-somethings, for whom irony and not outrage is the preferred tone.  But show you can fight, win, and deliver and they will give you a chance.  In the end, for all their eloquence, Lady Thatcher, John Paul II, and Ronald Reagan did not outtalk the Soviets; they showed they were prepared to outfight them, and that was enough.

As good as Obama is with talk talk, the fight fight component has thus far has been equally well-executed.  Again, fight fight for Obama consists of using his executive power and remaining fiscal armory to create and maintain an atmosphere of pervasive anxiety.  The calculation is that fear and anxiety will induce his remaining supporters to stick with him, and that enough of the forty-odd percent who claim to oppose him will pull the Democrat lever as well out of fear—fear of retribution and fear of losing what shreds they have left of their security as one from the gaggle of lame Republican contenders attempts to reverse the damage Obama has done.

The elderly are the most obvious target.  ObamaCare frightened them because of its potential negative impact on Medicare, and this presented a problem for the President.  So Obama moved recently to postpone one of the more onerous elements of his health reform until after the election.  With that flank secure he is free to focus the Medicare fears of the elderly on the Ryan budget blueprint.

On the union front, the Obama gang fostered maximum thuggery and rancor in Madison, as teachers became screaming harpies and schoolchildren pawns.  The line was clearly drawn—standing between fiscal prudence and public employee vested interests is Obama, so stick with him or else.  What about the business community?  Obama has assiduously used executive and regulatory power to show that crony capitalism works for his friends like GE, GM, and assorted connected green scam artists, but the retributive hand of his federal Myrmidons can be heavy indeed.  One frightened hedge fund magnate recently was reduced to whistling past the graveyard: “I am sure, if we are really nice and stay quiet, everything will be alright and the president will become more centrist and that all his tough talk is just words...I mean, he really loves us and when he beats us, he doesn’t mean it.”  (Notwithstanding, he has apparently begun contributing to Republicans.  Now that is hedging.)

Some elements of an ever more pervasive sense of fear and anxiety are more directly attributable to Obama policies than others.  Regardless, the parlous state of the nation overall, from what appears to be a fraying social fabric at fast food joints from coast to coast and soaring gold prices, to a feckless foreign policy allegedly necessitated by a reported presidential conviction “that the relative power of the U.S. is declining,” reinforces the more directly-attributable fear and anxiety effects of fight fight.  Some are scared to oppose, some are scared that with a change they will lose even more, some are scared that the price of saving the economy, our institutions, and restoring our international standing will be too high.

Right now the course of the campaign is being controlled by the Administration.  The first step in wresting the initiative is to recognize their strategy.”

It's easy to check out, if you don't believe it. Be sure and show it to your family
and friends. They need a little history lesson on what's what and it doesn't matter

card were not to be used for identification purposes. Since nearly everyone in the
United States now has a number, it became convenient to use it anyway and the
message, NOT FOR IDENTIFICATION, was removed.

•  Now 7.65%
  

  on the first $90,000

• 3.) That the money the participants elected to put
  into the Program would be deductible from
  their income for tax purposes each year,

•  4.) That the money the participants put into the

   general operating fund, and therefore, would

“As the Occupy manifestation of the “Global Peace and Justice Movement” begins to decay and break down into the predictable anarchy, violence and arrests, it is becoming clear that the protests pose special dangers for women.

Even the left has begun to admit it. The Nation tries to laud the role of women in Occupy Wall Street but can’t avoid the truth:

“The dozen women I spoke to for this story—most of them queer-identified and/or women of color—have witnessed varying amounts of offensive behavior, such as unwanted touching or use of casually misogynist language, within the movement…

Ashwini Hardikar, one protest participant, recently wrote a powerful blog post about two such experiences that occurred within an hour: a male protester giving her an unwanted hug, who then expressed shock when she responded (loudly) that she found his hug unwelcome and intrusive, and a young man chanting “Lady Liberty is a whore” and defending himself when she questioned his language. This kind of explaining and educating can be exhausting for women.”

Here are a just a few recent incidents:

• A 14-year-old runaway was allegedly sexually assaulted at Occupy Dallas.
• A 19-year-old student activist was allegedly raped at Occupy Cleveland.
• A man was arrested on charges of indecent exposure to children at Occupy Seattle.
• A female reporter was threatened by activists at Occupy Oakland.

And even more attacks are listed in John Nolte’s “rap sheet” on the Occupy protests. The threats to women are not confined to the periphery of the Occupy movement but exist at the heart of the main Occupy Wall Street protest in New York.

As the Washington Times noted this morning:

Crime in Occupy Wall Street’s encampment Zucotti Park might be worse than the public realizes. According to The New York Post, crime at the park, which included a homeless man allegedly pulling a knife during an argument as well as claims of sexual assaults, is so out of control many protesters have resorted to a “stop snitching” rule. In fact, reports The Post, one NYPD officer said, that much of the crime goes unreported as a result. “What’s happening in there is staying in there,” said the New York City cop.

Despite these concerns, Occupy has been discouraging victims of sexual assaults from consulting police. In New York, organizers have created a group called “Safer Spaces OWS” that attempts to deal with threats to women “without involving the police or the court system unless the person wants that.” At the same time, the Occupy movement has used idealized images of women to promote itself and attract new recruits. The contradiction is striking.

Some on the left are beginning to criticize attempts by some Occupy organizers to blame the victims for speaking out—such as Jezebel:

It’s also true that people who aren’t in charge can be asked to subsume their interests to those of the group as a whole — or even demonized if they speak up in ways perceived to discredit the group. That happened to the Cleveland victim when one protester (prominently featured on the local news) accused her of being a plant.

There have been a few improvements at some Occupy protests, partly in response to increased media attention to sexual crimes. For example, after news emerged that Occupy Baltimore had been discouraging women from approaching police with complaints of assault, the organizers changed their policy, according to the Baltimore Sun:

Gone is controversial language that said the protesters would rather handle complaints amongst themselves, and that while they wouldn’t prevent someone from going to police, they would prefer not to involve law enforcement.

The memo now reads, in part:

“Instances of sexual abuse and assault will be handled according to the expressed desires of the victim. The Security and Medical teams are equipped with a list of resources, including contact information for the police, hospitals, sexual assault hotlines, and women’s shelters. In these instances, #Occupy Baltimore welcomes the involvement of the Baltimore City Police and encourages victims to report crimes.”

The media has tended to treat incidents of sexual assault at Occupy protests as isolated cases, because few journalists want to acknowledge the radical heart of the movement. It should be no surprise that an event thrown by anarchists has turned into anarchy. Those on the left who have acknowledged the problem have made a small step in the right direction, but they continue to miss the obvious solutions, because they would prefer to blame social conditions like patriarchy and racism for women’s vulnerability at Occupy.

The reality is that ideological underpinnings of the Occupy movement–such as collectivism, “consensus” decision making, and antipathy towards law enforcement—often lend themselves to the disorder that predators see as opportunity. Far from “empowering” women, the Occupy movement’s anarchist and socialist principles and policies are exposing female activists to greater danger. They cannot maintain order because they are in the midst of rebelling against it.

There can be no more excuses. It’s time for common sense to trump ideology. If the organizers of Occupy are incapable of preserving law and order among the participants, the public authorities must assert themselves. One victim more is one too many.”

“From the first stirrings of change in the Middle East nine months ago, optimism at the prospect of 100 million young people rising up to seize their democratic freedoms has been tempered by fear in Western capitals that radical Islamists might also rise up and try to hijack the so-called Arab Spring.

And now, many analysts say, that fear has been realized.

In Tunisia, where the epic season of unrest began, last Sunday’s historic elections appear to have resulted in an Islamist group winning a governing majority.

In Libya, an ex-terrorist once jailed by the Central Intelligence Agency now runs the country’s foremost military organization, and new political leaders speak openly of enacting Sharia, the ultra-harsh code of Islamic law.

And in Egypt, where the world’s oldest civilization is bracing for elections next month, rioters have recently forced the evacuation of the Israeli embassy and waged vicious attacks on Coptic Christians.

Worrisome in their own right, these developments also raise difficult questions, in an already contentious political season, about the conduct of President Obama and his national security team: Has the White House done all it could to steer the Arab Spring in the right direction? Have events to date strengthened U.S. security – or left America weakened abroad, with Islamic fundamentalism ascendant?

At a House Foreign Affairs Committee hearing on Thursday, Rep. Dan Burton, R-Ind., told Secretary of State Hillary Clinton the Mideast “really worries me,” and asked what the Obama administration “plans to do to make sure that we don’t have a radical government taking over those places.”

“Revolutions are unpredictable phenomena,” Clinton replied. “I think a lot of the leaders are saying the right things and some are saying things that do give pause to us….We’re going to do all that we can within our power to basically try to influence outcomes. But, you know, the historic wind sweeping the Middle East and North Africa were not of our making.”

Jamie Smith, a former CIA officer who has made three fact-finding trips to Libya this year, warns that the sense of unity that bound the country’s disparate rebel groups during their eight-month revolt has evaporated since MuammarQaddafi fell from power.

In the dictator’s place, Smith says, the oil-rich but woefully mismanaged North African state is relying on the Transitional National Council, made up of inexperienced ex-rebels, and the Tripoli Military Council, headed by Abdel Hakim Belhaj. The latter was once head of the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group (LIFG), which the U.S. State Departmentclassifies as a foreign terrorist organization.

It is unlikely that Belhaj’s loyalties to the United States run strong: Smith notes that the CIA captured Belhaj in 2004, briefly held him in Thailand, and ultimately returned him to the custody of Qaddafi in Libya, where the former LIFG fighter languished in prison until his release last year.

“So now you’ve got a radical Islamist terrorist leader who is running the most powerful military group in Libya,” said Smith, a veteran of the U.S. war in Afghanistan. “In that area of the world, the people with the biggest guns make the rules. And this guy has got the guns. And he’s going to make the rules.”

Not all veteran analysts of the Mideast see the TNC’s embrace of Sharia as an imminent threat, nor the broader trend in the Arab Spring as hopelessly dark for American interests.

Patrick Clawson of the Washington Institute for Near East Policy draws encouragement from the fact that the region’s revolutions, by and large, have not been marked by strong expressions of anti-Western or anti-Israel sentiment. And he suggested that Washington can work reasonably well with governments whose legal codes do not mirror our own.

“The Saudi government has been perhaps the most vigorous applier of Sharia law throughout the Muslim world for decades, and yet Saudi Arabia and the United States have had a pretty close relationship on national security issues,” Clawson told Fox News. “And that’s very different than a secular revolutionary government like that in Syria, which certainly doesn’t apply Sharia law, but which has been happy to sponsor terrorist attacks against Americans.”

Some conservatives, however, are inclined to blame the Obama administration for mishandling the Mideast upheaval.

Frank Gaffney, a former Reagan-era Defense Department official who now leads the Washington-based Center for Security Policy, expands his definition of the Arab Spring to include the Iranian uprising of June 2009, which the regime in Tehran used lethal force to suppress.

Gaffney contrasts the Obama administration’s fairly cautious response to that event – framed, at the time, as part of the president’s attempt to “engage” Iran – with Obama’s swift call for the resignation of Hosni Mubarak during the Egyptian revolution this year.

“The president of the United States in both cases did the bidding of the Islamists, who wanted to preserve the regime in Iran and who wanted to remove the regime in Egypt,” Gaffney told Fox News. “And I think that quite apart from what his intentions were, in so doing, he made all the more predictable this very unhappy outcome that I think is playing out before our eyes.”

The next shoe to drop in the region will likely be the Nov. 28 elections in Egypt. U.S. officials are bracing for a strong showing by the Muslim Brotherhood, the Islamist group that boasts a long history of organized opposition to the Mubarak regime, and whose foreign offshoots include Hamas.”

I. Iran Hails Tunisian Election Result, Predicts Islamist Victories in Egypt, Libya!

“(CNSNews.com) – Welcoming the apparent victory of an Islamist party in Tunisia, Iran’s leadership is predicting similar results when Egyptians and Libyans get to vote in their first elections after overthrowing dictators in what Tehran has branded the 2011 “Islamic awakening.”

As of Wednesday evening, the “moderate Islamist” Ennahda party had won 65 of the 159 seats announced in the 217-seat constituent assembly, which will be tasked with drafting a new constitution for Tunisia.

Ennahda said it would nominate its secretary-general, Hamadi Jbeli, as prime minister. An engineer and journalist, Jbeli was imprisoned for 15 years by the regime of ousted President Zine el Abidine Ben Ali for membership in a banned organization and “attempting to change the nature of the state.”

Ennahda leaders have pledged to plot a moderate course, and during the election campaign cited as a model the Islamist parties ruling Turkey and Malaysia rather than the Taliban or Saudi leaders.

Analysts also note that secular parties will also be present in the constituent assembly (the party taking second place in the results so far is the centrist Congress Party for the Republic, which has expressed cautious interest in forming a coalition with Ennahda.

Despite those indications, Iran is characterizing the election outcome as a victory for the Islamist tendency.

“As the wave of Islamic awaking started to rise in Tunisia, we also observed that the first election was held in this country, and the Ennahda party gained a relative victory in the election,” Ali Akbar Velayati, a former foreign minister who now serves as senior advisor to supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, said on Wednesday.

“The result of the election in Tunisia will positively affect regional developments,” Velayati added, predicting that “we will observe the victory of Islamists in future elections in Egypt and Libya.”

Also welcoming the Tunisian results, parliamentary speaker Ali Larijani said they reflected Tunisians’ enthusiasm for upholding Islamic principles.

He described Tunisia as the “flag-bearer of [the] Islamic awakening” and promised that Iran’s parliament would support the “awakening movements” in both Tunisia and Libya, ensuring that regional cooperation would be a foreign policy priority for Tehran.

From the outset, Khamenei and other Iranian leaders have argued that the protests some call the “Arab spring” are in fact part of an “Islamic awakening” inspired by Iran’s 1979 revolution, a movement that promises to undermine U.S. and Israeli interests in the region. (The uprising is Syria, a key ally, is generally not mentioned in this context.)

The anticipated rise of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt has been viewed positively by Iran, which had chilly relations with President Hosni Mubarak and loathed his predecessor, Anwar Sadat, for signing a peace treaty with Israel.

Egypt-Iran ties were also strained over Cairo’s support for Iraq during the Iran-Iraq war. Egypt gave ousted Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi a state burial in 1980, and after Sadat was assassinated the following year, Iran infuriated Egypt by naming a street in Tehran for the leader of the assassination plot. Iran later became a key sponsor of Hamas, the Palestinian offshoot of Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood, Mubarak’s rival.

According to published reports, in one of the classified State Department cables leaked last year, a U.S. diplomat in Cairo reported in 2009 that Mubarak had “a visceral hatred for the Islamic Republic, referring repeatedly to Iranians as ‘liars,’ and denouncing them for seeking to destabilize Egypt and the region.”

Tehran had somewhat better relations with Muammar Gaddafi’s regime in Libya, although the still-unresolved disappearance of an Iranian-born, Lebanese Shi’ite leader during an official visit to Libya in 1978 caused some tensions. Some believe Moussa Sadr was secretly jailed by Gaddafi and may still be alive.

Despite opposing the NATO operation that helped the anti-Gaddafi forces, Iran established contacts with the rebels (now the transitional government) in the early months of the uprising.

After rebel forces overran the government compound in Tripoli in August Iran congratulated “the Muslim people of Libya,” disclosed that it had been “discreetly” helping the rebels with humanitarian aid, and invited the head of the National Transitional Council (NTC) to visit Tehran “at an opportune time.”

In September, Iran voted in favor of Libya’s United Nations seat being given to the NTC, in the process breaking with customary allies like Venezuela, Bolivia and Cuba.

Following Gaddafi’s death, Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi this week sent a message to the NTC hailing Libya’s “total liberation” and expressing the hope Libyans would install “a regime based on religious democracy while preserving the independence and stability of the country with no influence or interference by foreign forces,” the Mehr news agency reported.

On Wednesday, Tehran’s foreign ministry said Salehi would visit Tripoli soon at the invitation of the NTC.”
