US military weighs use of ‘mother of all bombs’ in future strikes on Iran: report!-Posted on New York Post-By Chris Bradford-On October 15, 2026:
The US military has developed strike plans that could include dropping the “mother of all bombs” on Iranian energy infrastructure and nuclear targets if President Trump green-lights additional attacks on the regime, according to a report Thursday.
A GBU-43/B Massive Ordnance Air Blast (MOAB) bomb – the largest non-nuclear explosive the US has ever detonated in combat – has not been used since 2017 when it was dropped on an ISIS cave and tunnel complex in Afghanistan and its use would mark a significant escalation in Washington’s 7 ½ month war with Tehran.
Trump has reportedly ordered military top brass to create strike packages against Iran that include a “lot of energy infrastructure,” and these attacks could involve the use of a MOAB, according to CNN, citing a source.

The source implied the strikes would come “prior to US retrograde in CENTCOM AOR [area of responsibility].
The scenario could involve Washington unleashing additional strikes, trying to claim victory, and then quickly pull out its forces.
Another source claimed a MOAB – which contains 18,700 pounds of high explosives—could be used in attacks on Pickaxe Mountain, the regime’s hidden fortress located near the Natanz nuclear facility that President Trump has previously threatened to bomb.
There has never been any indication of nuclear activity at the site, but experts say it’s “large enough” to “hold a centrifuge enrichment plant.”
The White House hasn’t ruled out potentially detonating a MOAB.
“President Trump keeps all options on the table to ensure that Iran can never have a nuclear weapon,” an official said, refusing to comment on the plans.
“The Department of War plans for a wide range of operational scenarios to execute Presidential and Secretary‑level direction and to ensure mission success in any operational environment.” a Pentagon spokesperson added.
But sources have questioned whether a MOAB would be able to penetrate Pickaxe Mountain – which is buried some 300 to 400 feet underneath solid granite.
“The MOAB is a massive information operation type weapon that is great for huge area clearance but not much else,” a source familiar with the military plans, told CNN.
“It is definitely not designed as a deep penetration warhead.”
Sources have also warned about the risk of civilian casualties but one claimed “POTUS has unfortunately put himself in a situation where he is almost compelled to do something.”
The US dropped the MOAB just months into Trump’s first presidential term in 2017, killing 96 Islamic State terrorists in an operation in Afghanistan.
An MC-130 aircraft, flown by Air Force Special Operations Command, targeted tunnels used by ISIS in the Achin district of the Nangarhar province.
Gen. John Nicholson, then-commander of US forces in Afghanistan, authorized the deadly strike as Trump praised the bombing of ISIS strongholds as a “very, very successful mission.”
It’s unclear if such strikes would happen. Trump has vowed to hold off resuming attacks on Iran before the Nov. 3 midterms.
Trump is seeking an end to the conflict, which is at a stalemate despite boasting to supporters at a Montana rally Wednesday that Iran’s military has been decimated.
“They don’t have a navy,” he said. “They don’t have an air force. Their leaders are gone.”
The war is deeply unpopular in the US – with polling compiled by Silver Bulletin revealing that only 34% of Americans support the military operation. Its net support stands at -22.7%.
The Republicans are navigating challenging headwinds heading into the midterms, with gas prices remaining stubbornly high.
The average gas price has been over $4 per gallon for 158 days in 2026 – more than any other year, according to GasBuddy.
Fuel costs hit a record $6.53 per gallon last month. In a bid to drive down costs, Trump revealed Friday that the US will buy large amounts of Russian diesel.
Sources have since told The Post that Russian diesel is set to reach the market before the elections.

Washington — The Trump administration sharply criticized a legal complaint filed in Lebanon against the country's ambassador to Washington over her reported outreach to her Israeli counterpart, accusing Hezbollah-linked actors of seeking to obstruct U.S.-led efforts to foster diplomatic contacts between the two countries.
The complaint against Lebanese Ambassador Nada Hamadeh Moawad was filed with Lebanon's military judiciary by a lawyer the U.S. described as "pro-Hizbollah," in response to a report in Lebanese media that Moawad contacted Israeli Ambassador Yechiel Leiter after his son was seriously injured in a car-ramming terror attack in the West Bank last month.
"It is embarrassing that a military court is handling a complaint against the Lebanese Ambassador in Washington for carrying out the policy of their legitimate government and engaging in U.S.-led negotiations," a State Department spokesperson told CBS News late Tuesday, in an unusually pointed statement.
The two diplomats have been participating in U.S.-brokered talks aimed at improving relations between Israel and Lebanon — an effort that has faced resistance from Iranian-backed Hezbollah. Lebanon and Israel held their first direct diplomatic talks in decades in Washington in April, with the Israeli and Lebanese ambassadors to the U.S. sitting alongside their American counterparts. "The Lebanese military judiciary should use its limited resources to prosecute Hizballah operatives plotting against the Lebanese government and people instead of working on their behalf," said the State Department official, who also called for the repeal of laws and practices that enable the "politicized targeting" of civilians and diplomats while shielding Hezbollah.
"We have no patience for obstruction," the official said.
That appeared to be a reference to a 1955-era anti-normalization law which was part of a broader Arab League boycott of Israel and prohibits any contact between Lebanese and Israeli citizens.
A diplomatic source told CBS News that the law is outdated and has become a tool used by Hezbollah to suppress those who seek peace and normal relations with Israel.
CBS News has reached out to the Israeli Embassy for comment.
It is unclear whether the complaint against Moawad will result in formal proceedings.
It comes amid a sustained push by the Trump administration to bring the longtime adversaries, still formally at war, closer together. In April, Secretary of State Marco Rubio hosted the two ambassadors for direct talks, acknowledging at the time that the U.S. was working against "decades of history and complexities."
In June, the two countries signed a framework agreement meant to lay the groundwork for lasting peace, based on a gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces from southern Lebanon alongside the disarmament of Hezbollah and deployment of Lebanese government forces. Implementation of the agreement has stalled amid disagreements over the sequencing and verification of those steps. The last formal round of talks, held in Rome in August, ended without a breakthrough.
The ambassadors met most recently at the State Department in September, and another round of negotiations is expected this month in Rome.

Iran shifting tactics to step up attacks on shipping before US vote, officials say!-Posted on The Straits Times-On October 14, 2026:

- Tehran plans to widen attacks beyond Hormuz, while warning of “complete closure soon”; the US says the threat to merchant shipping remains “severe”.
DUBAI/LONDON/WASHINGTON – Iran is deploying new tactics to target ships sailing through the Strait of Hormuz as it seeks to keep oil prices high and influence the US midterm elections, two senior Iranian officials told Reuters.
Tehran has tried to exert control over the Strait of Hormuz since the US and Israel launched strikes against Iran on Feb 28. It has restricted passage through the waterway, which carried about a fifth of global oil and liquefied natural gas trade before the war, in an effort to gain leverage over Washington.
Its threats and attacks have severely curtailed traffic through the strait, driving up oil prices, though some oil has continued to transit.
The two officials declined to provide details of the new strategy, but one said that Iran had started using different offensive tactics against vessels it considered in violation of its restrictions about 10 days ago, adding that this had led to an increase in attacks on such ships.
The strategy included a change in the type as well as the pace of attacks, with one goal being to influence the outcome of the US vote, they said.
“The aim is to frustrate efforts by the United States and its allies to bring down global oil prices,” one of the two officials said.
The decision to adopt the new strategy had been taken at the highest levels of Iran’s leadership and was fully coordinated across the country’s ruling system, the officials said.
Iran using spotters
A US military official, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed that Iran had changed tactics in one significant way: after the US destroyed much of Iran’s radar capabilities, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) had started using unarmed spotters in small boats to identify potential targets, including US naval vessels, the official said.
Last week, in a previously unreported incident, the US military determined that Iranian spotters were operating from a dhow, calling in targets to the IRGC, the official said. US forces confronted the vessel, told its occupants to abandon ship and then destroyed it. There were no casualties, the US official said.
Unwilling to risk its remaining fast boats, Iran had been unable to prevent a ramp-up in oil exports through the strait, the official said, particularly after US strikes devastated its navy.
The war – and its US$3 billion (S$3.8 billion) monthly price tag – has become a key issue on the US campaign trail for November’s midterm elections, which will decide control of Congress.
US President Donald Trump has been weighing next steps against Iran, but has said he will not attack again before the vote.
The US has meanwhile been pressing its own naval blockade of Iranian ports and extending sanctions as it tries to pile economic pressure on Tehran to reach a deal to end the conflict.
The stand-off over Hormuz has left global energy markets exposed to further disruption, with the threat of attacks and high shipping and insurance costs complicating efforts to restore normal traffic.
In recent days, attacks on commercial ships still sailing through the strait have surged to their highest level since the war began, according to independent data.
There have been at least five incidents in the past 48 hours involving tankers and other commercial ships around the Hormuz area, including drone strikes, according to data analysis from maritime security sources and incidents reported to British navy-affiliated agency United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO).
That approximately mirrored the rate of attacks on Oct 3-5, pointing to a new escalation, according to data from the UN shipping agency, the International Maritime Organization.
“There is a tempo increase in strikes, which looks deliberate,” one maritime security source said.
Attacks over an expanded area
As part of the new strategy, Tehran will also expand the geographical scope of its operations beyond the Strait of Hormuz to the Gulf of Oman and waters further afield, the officials said.
Analysis by maritime security sources based on attacks reported to UKMTO and maritime security companies in the region suggest this may already be happening. They show Iran targeting ships in areas beyond the Strait of Hormuz, including waters off the coast of Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, in recent days.
The second Iranian official added that Tehran would not allow Trump to bring down oil prices before the November elections.
“Just when they think they are getting close to the point where prices will fall, we will push them away from it. This is a game of chess,” the second official said.
“Such vessels would be safe nowhere, even outside the Strait of Hormuz.”
The Pentagon and Iran’s Foreign Ministry did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Complete closure of Hormuz soon, says Iranian official
Both Iranian officials said Tehran is moving towards a situation in which no vessel violating its restrictions would be able to pass through the strait. “It will be complete closure soon,” one of the officials said.
In its latest report on Oct 11, the US Navy-led Joint Maritime Information Center (JMIC) said the threat to merchant shipping in the Strait of Hormuz remained “severe”, the second-highest level.
“IRGC attacks, attempted attacks, and/or harassment activity persisted including UAV overflight, targeted surveillance of merchant shipping, and occasional VHF hailing,” JMIC said. REUTERS

Iran-backed Houthi rebels on Wednesday claimed responsibility for strikes on Saudi Aramco facilities, King Khalid International Airport and an oil refinery near Riyadh, as their attacks on civilian infrastructure mount.
Houthi spokesperson Yahya Saree said in a statement that the attacks caused several fires across Saudi Arabia’s eastern provinces.
The Saudi Energy Ministry said Tuesday evening that a small fire broke out in an administration building at Aramco’s headquarters in Dhahran, in the eastern province, after a missile struck the office tower. Aramco is Saudi Arabia’s state-owned petroleum and natural gas company.
Some reports indicated that Aramco employees were told to work from home on Wednesday.
Saudi coalition spokesperson Turki al-Maliki said forces intercepted a Houthi missile that was launched toward Riyadh, and authorities have not confirmed any successful strikes on Saudi airports on Wednesday.
Mr. Saree said the attacks were part of “deterrence operations” against Saudi Arabia following Saudi-led attacks on the Yemeni capital, Sanaa, which has been a major stronghold for the Houthis. He asserted that Saudi coalition forces have carried out more than 2,000 airstrikes during the latest escalation.
The Houthis warned on Tuesday that all three targets would be hit if Sanaa was bombed.
Mr. Saree added the Houthis would continue to escalate their attacks against civilian infrastructure until Saudi Arabia ends its involvement in the Yemeni civil war.
The overnight attacks are the latest escalation in Saudi Arabia’s war against the Houthis in Yemen. The Houthis this week launched strikes against airports in Riyadh, killing more than a dozen people and injuring hundreds.
The most recent escalation in fighting began in the summer, when the Houthis declared a blockade against Saudi ships in the Red Sea in solidarity with Iran, which established a blockade in the Strait of Hormuz.
Since then, Saudi coalition forces and the internationally recognized government of Yemen have stepped up operations against the Houthis.
Despite an increased bombing campaign, the Houthis in recent weeks have taken large swaths of territory off Yemen’s western coast. The territory, including important coastal ports, has provided more strike options for the rebels in the Red Sea and in Saudi Arabia.

Iran-backed Houthi militants fired missiles and drones into Saudi Arabian territory on Monday, just days after their deadly strike on a Riyadh airport, according to Saudi-coalition forces in Yemen.
Coalition forces backing Yemen’s internationally recognized government reported the new barrage but did not specify targets. It is unclear whether any of the missiles or drones were intercepted.
Over the weekend, Houthi forces launched missiles and drones at Saudi airports, causing multiple deaths and forcing King Khalid International Airport, one of the country’s busiest, to close until Oct. 17
A Houthi missile struck King Khalid International in Riyadh on Saturday, killing at least 12 people and wounding more than 300, according to Saudi authorities. India’s embassy said an Indian national injured in the attack later died, bringing the toll to 13.
On Sunday, another projectile struck a terminal at the same airport, killing a Pakistani resident and wounding 11, Saudi authorities reported.
The airport strikes mark a major escalation in Saudi Arabia’s war against the Houthis. In recent weeks, the rebels have not only increased their ground attacks on Saudi-backed Yemeni forces but also have launched missiles and drones at oil infrastructure in Saudi Arabia proper.
An attack last month on the kingdom’s East-West pipeline caused Aramco to shut down production for several days for repairs. The pipeline had served as a major bypass around Iran’s blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
The attack prompted Riyadh to call on its allies for military assistance, invoking the recently signed Mecca Defense Pact with Turkey and Pakistan. While neither country has committed ground troops to Yemen to fight the Houthis directly, both have agreed to send military resources, including troops, to Saudi Arabia.
Houthi forces have made significant territorial gains against government forces in recent weeks, particularly along the western Red Sea coast and around Taiz. The gains give the rebels a foothold along the Bab al-Mandeb Strait at the southern end of the Red Sea, potentially making it easier for them to target Saudi-linked tankers.
Yemeni government forces have escalated ground and air campaigns in recent days. They say they have retaken the port city of Mocha and the Dhubab district on the western coast, but the Houthis have denied those claims, which have not been independently confirmed.
There was some indication on Monday that the kingdom’s Persian Gulf neighbors are increasingly concerned about Riyadh’s exposed position against the Houthis.
Anwar Gargash, diplomatic adviser to the president of the United Arab Emirates, told the WPC Energy Congress that the attacks on Saudi Arabia are a threat to the security of all Gulf states and called for the revival of joint Gulf action on defense.
The U.S. has mostly stayed out of direct combat in Saudi Arabia’s war with the Houthis. But President Trump said Saturday he was considering joining the attacks on the Houthis.
Saudi Arabia’s conflict with the Houthis, which began when the kingdom intervened in Yemen’s civil war in 2015, had been mostly on pause since 2022. But the war with Iran that the U.S. and Israel launched in February reignited the conflict this summer, as the Houthis established a blockade against Saudi ships in the Red Sea in support of Tehran.
The U.S.-Iran war does not appear any closer to a diplomatic resolution nearly eight months after it began.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry said Monday that it was reviewing the latest U.S. peace proposal and would respond via intermediaries once the process was complete.
Tehran wants to return to the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding and accuses Washington of undermining diplomacy by continuing to raise nuclear issues in recent proposals, spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said.
Details of the latest proposals exchanged between Iran and the U.S. by Qatari and Pakistani mediators have not been made public.
Iranian officials said late last month that they proposed a peace deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for the U.S. lifting its naval blockade and easing sanctions. Mr. Trump rejected the plan.
Iran and the U.S. have had no diplomatic agreement since July, when the memorandum broke down over control of the Strait of Hormuz.
Mohsen Rezaei, the secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, said Sunday that the latest U.S. response to Iranian demands was unsatisfactory and that Washington needs to clarify certain issues before diplomacy can continue.
Mr. Rezaei added that if the U.S. restarts attacks, Tehran would not hesitate to target artificial intelligence data centers and communication cables in the region. Iranian officials have vowed to strike civilian infrastructure if the U.S. attacks again.
Iran is suspected of recently attempting a foiled attack on American forces operating in Britain, where Prime Minister Andy Burnham said Monday it is “highly likely” Tehran played a role in coordinating a plot targeting an air base used by the U.S.
“We will not tolerate these threats on our soil,” Mr. Burnham said in a speech to Parliament.
Earlier this month, authorities foiled a suspected terror attack at the RAF Fairford military base. Police arrested five men after they were spotted by residents exiting three large white vans.
Police found no explosives or weapons on the men or in the vans but did find an unspecified amount of gasoline, an accelerant. All five men were released on bail just a day after their arrest.
U.K. counterterrorism police have arrested at least three other individuals they say may have been involved in the incident this month. The suspects have been released on bail.
RAF Fairford has been used by the U.S. to launch bombing raids against targets in Iran during the war, which began in late February. Iranian officials have said that the base, and others like it, would be a legitimate target for retaliatory strikes.
